Thank you @thenovl for sending me an arc of this amazing story! There is a quote in the book where Jo says to Kurl, “You undid me.” And that’s what this book did to me - it undid me. Kurl and Jo are two teens assigned as semester-long pen pals in English class. Watching these two boys reveal their vulnerabilities to each other inch by inch until they became unlikely friends and then to lovers made my heart feel like bursting. It was just so beautiful. You felt it in your bones that these two had a deep soul connection. The romance was just heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I still need to write my review but I haven’t processed all my thoughts and feelings yet.⠀ .⠀ ✉️ I don’t know why but it’s always harder for me to write a review the more I love it. And I loved We Contain Multitudes so much. Honestly, it might be my favorite book I’ve read this year. 🙀 Something about it really moved me. Yo....... this is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL book I have EVER read. The story is culturally epic. I definitely have some students who could relate to the characters. 332 pages and I knocked it out in 2 days. I could've read it in one day if I didn't have responsibilities. I grabbed this book for my class library in 2018. I just never got around to vetting it so I can insert it. (Then the pan****c hit.) I'm mad it took me 3 years to do so. The chapters are written in what I would compare to stanzas. It looks and reads so poetic. I can't rant and rave enough over this work of art. My students will ALWAYS have access to books that represent them. The stories, characters, and authors all looking like them. That will be 95% of my library. LLI does not represent people of color. Lot's of talking turtles, frogs, rabbits, etc. I'm changing the narrative one book at a time. One student at a time (sometimes 4 or 5). Shout out the the author Jasmine Warga. "Other Words for Home" is a Fantastic book. It's in my top 10 easy. Cosa penso di "Memorie di una ragazza perbene"? Che sia un romanzo spettacolare, bellissimo e senza eguali. Leggendo Simone De Beauvoir non si compie il semplice atto di leggere, ma si vive la sua vita passo per passo, minuto dopo minuto, scoperta dopo scoperta. Mi sono sentita simile a lei? Moltissimo, e questo non ha fatto che aumentare la mia stima nei suoi confronti, e soprattutto mi ha fatto venire voglia di leggerla ancora e ancora. Ma al contrario di quanto si potrebbe pensare, ho letto le sue Memorie in tre settimane, perché mi sono gustata ogni frase e ogni parola, inebriandomi della sua scrittura. Perciò vi consiglio questo libro, per ciò che la De Beauvoir racconta e soprattutto per come lo racconta. One of my ALL TIME Top 5 favorites. In the mid 90’s, I fell in love authors like, #michaelcrichton and #RichardPreston. I was kind of a science geek - kinda. . #JurassicPark was a great work of fiction, while “The Hot Zone” was far more terrifying, because it was non-fiction. . Even IF “The Hot Zone” had embellishments, or it clearly showed how we continued to play with fire - the perfect example of human arrogance and disrespect. Showing courtesy, humility, and respect for something far greater than ourselves - seems to be a tough sell. . So, what does courtesy, respect and humility have to do with a book about a virus? If you don’t know - you’re part of the problem. . Let’s think about one aspect of #humankind. Let’s use a distinctively human ability, which distinguishes us from most wild and savage animals. It’s our ability to think through and resolve the unknowns from seemingly unrelated puzzle pieces - our distinctively human ability called #CriticalThinking. .
