Thank you @thenovl for sending me an arc of this amazing story! There is a quote in the book where Jo says to Kurl, “You undid me.” And that’s what this book did to me - it undid me. Kurl and Jo are two teens assigned as semester-long pen pals in English class. Watching these two boys reveal their vulnerabilities to each other inch by inch until they became unlikely friends and then to lovers made my heart feel like bursting. It was just so beautiful. You felt it in your bones that these two had a deep soul connection. The romance was just heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I still need to write my review but I haven’t processed all my thoughts and feelings yet.⠀ .⠀ ✉️ I don’t know why but it’s always harder for me to write a review the more I love it. And I loved We Contain Multitudes so much. Honestly, it might be my favorite book I’ve read this year. 🙀 Something about it really moved me. Have you guys read We Contain Multitudes yet? I recieved this arc from PRHC Canada at their recent teen event and I'm so happy about it. This book feels so real and that's probably the best thing about it. Also the writing was so so beautiful! Now I've added Mad Miss Mimic and The Red Word onto my TBR because I need all of Sarah Henstra's writing that I can get (also did you know she's a prof at Ryerson University?! I picked up We Contain Multitudes a bit ago and I fell for the perfectly done epistolary format. The bodies of marginalized people hold so much sadness. Yet sadness can co-exist with joy. The dominant culture profits & thrives on creating & enforcing binaries as if we were so small we can only contain one thing at a time. Our sadness is as large as the universe & those who would deny us the largeness of our feelings are themselves without souls.

We are constantly told to shrink ourselves down to exist in containers that they can control and exploit, but our selves are so much larger than that & there is still room for joy. 

We must take every moment possible to taste joy, to claim joy. Not to erase or deny the sadness but to embrace the fullness of existence.
