Iloilo Riverside Esplanade - 2022 (Watercolor) by kpresmei
I've always enjoyed morning walks alongside the riverside in my city. This is one of the many series of postcard watercolor paintings I will be posting in the upcoming days. I figured this blog, while empty as of this writing, ought to start somewhere.
I couldn't think of a more perfect way to begin this creative blog than sharing my take on a sunrise above mangroves, and the brackish burbling river.

When Rocel and I started dating she was training young journalists and helping another organization promote safe and transparent elections. I knew from the beginning that her drive would take her places, and if we stuck together, it would take us places too.
In a few weeks, her latest milestone involves studying public health in the UK on a full scholarship. Thanks to the privilege of being a freelance designer with a US passport, I’ll be joining her in our new home.
My hope for her is that she has a renewed sense of vigor, after years of working inside the eye of a storm involving a global pandemic complicated by fake news that has been just as viral. Not that she has been drained or disenchanted by her work, but because we both know that this masters degree will help her (and the people she works with, and for) weather storms in the future. A Bisaya word that comes to my mind is “paglig-on” = to strengthen.
Here Rocel is wearing a one-of-a-kind two-way hablon top with detachable Filipiniana sleeves emblazoned with hand sewn floral lace by Iloilo’s very own lin.ay.ph.
Salamat gid Pilipinas, see you again soon.

Hi, I’m Martin, so since this is my blog site, Imma talk about me. 😉 I’m currently a 3rd Year Marketing Major student at the University of San Agustin from which a lot of successful people in their respective fields graduated such as Edgar “Injap” Sia, who was once named as the youngest billionaire in the Philippines, the founder of the famous Mang Inasal that has at least 500 branches all over the country.
I’ve explored several sports before, such as basketball, taekwondo, football, volleyball and Arnis, which I was able to be part of Team Iloilo in the Batang Pinoy, but I guess I’m not really that much of a sporty person.
My current hobby is photography which started around last 2016 then freelancing and what led me to being part of the USA Publications. Funny thing, back when I was still in Assumption Iloilo, I wanted to study at the University of San Agustin to join the Little Theatre when they used to visit us during playfest but currently enjoying my college life as part of the USA Publications and learning a lot from my colleagues.
College life is tiring but trying to make the most of it and enjoy each bit.
Trying to steer my ship well no matter how big the waves are.

I just want y'all to appreciate the city I live in: Iloilo City, Philippines:
Tumblr media
It is a small city, smaller than Cebu City, and roughly have 500k in population (as per google). I have watched this city grow as I myself have grown. From this small city looking like the "province" Manileños are saying with lots of vacant lands and cows and goats on the side of the asphalted road, to a gorgeous and clean city.
Tumblr media
I was there when there was only a handful of hangout spots for the teens and I was there as it bloomed into business centers, IT Hub and yet was able to keep it's Spanish Heritage and culture. (And traffic ain't that bad!)
I used to be shy of admitting I am an Ilongga. I have always said Manila has it all. Manila has all the concerts I wanted to go to, Manila is accessible for a fangirl because it literally is that easy to find things a fangirl might want (ahem, Taylor Swift Merch) and I have always wanted to move to Manila because of the reasons stated above but now Iloilo City is catching up. Hell, Iloilo Province has its own malls now.
It truly is a gorgeous place and I am glad I have seen the change. Politicians are also not as corrupt as the rest of the Philippines are. And no longer am I ashamed to claim this city. I love Iloilo City and its beautiful views!
Tumblr media
If y'all are love a peaceful city, please come visit us. I promise it is 100% worth it!

Oton, Iloilo - kpresmei | Watercolor | 2022
I was on a road trip with my family when I took the reference photo for this painting. Whenever I look at this artwork, I remember how my mom thought the migrating herons standing on the fields were "just really tall ducks"- and the laughter my dad and I could not contain afterwards.
Even landscapes have a piece of humanity in every stroke.
