Meet William the Whale Shark!
Students at Ateneo Biological Organization (BOx) asked for my own rendition of their mascot, an adorable whale shark that wears glasses and features a bright, attractive color palette.
I added a "neck tie" hich also happens to be a pink remora fish (pink remoras don't exist, but in my mind).
They also wanted whaleshark puns, since I am in fact renowned in three barangays in the Philippines, and 1.5 shires here in the UK, as a Tito Joke Bloke (TJB).
This April they worked with a Bantay Dagat community in Calatagan, Batangas, and gave children activity kits that included free printables I made at @philippinewildlifeart. I'm happy I can still make people smile (or cringe) from abroad, but I do miss being there in person.

Imagine Jollibee's Peach mango pie, but with a cinnamon-sugar crisp puff pastry and a side of mango cream. You can find it, of all places, inside a Filipino ramen restaurant in London. https://filipeanut.art/art-and-food-at-a-filipino-ramen-spot-in-london/

Have you seen this fish with "pajamas?" The Pajama cardinalfish is one of many fish found in places like the Philippines and exported for the aquarium trade. It is one of 7 highlighted in new stickers I made for an awareness campaign. Is a sinigang ramen possible? Apparently yes.
Ramo Ramen in London's Soho district merges a sampalok (tamarind) broth with noodles, nori, roasted tomato, soft-boiled egg, and two grilled prawns making this a seafood and halal sinigang ramen.
I also enjoyed the art there.

One my latest illustrations is about the aquarium trade. This example is of the beautiful Mandarin fish.
Because they look so vibrant, they are popular as aquarium fish. A rarer variation of them comes in a bright red color.
They live in shallow protected lagoons and inshore reefs from the Philippines and along the Western Pacific. Local names in the Philippines include bunog and nangka-tangka.

"With pending modes of environmental degradation and the disappearance of community values and folkways, tourism can be transformed into a tool that caters to preservation rather than utilization."
"Tourism in itself is a culture, but this culture can be reshaped and re-designated to work in congruence with community ideals and principles."

Is it possible to save at least the 5 kamagong species on the list? And if there is renovation needed, can the structural updates incorporate the trees as a supplement to the design, as opposed to being seen as an impediment?

Drawing different people.
I usually just draw Filipinos, but I forget that even in the Philippines Filipinos come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and cultures.
As artists we tend to draw the world as we see it, which can say a lot about an artist. As I improve and evolve in my art, I also need to learn how to draw people that reflect reality.
“Different strokes for different folks,” is a saying said to have been popularized by Muhammad Ali in one of his colorful sports interviews. I am interpreting it here as “different folks require different strokes…” of art and color.

Happy BALINTONG’S day!
World Pangolin Day is on Feb 17 this year. So why not celebrate our love for the Palawan Pangolin, locally known as Balintong?
Also known as the scaly anteater, the Palawan Pangolin (𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴) is one of 8 species of Pangolin in the world. It has a very long tongue that it uses to eat ants and termites. It also uses its scaly “armor” as a defense against predators… and heartbreak!
Keep the love rolling this Balintong’s Day. Free printable greeting card here: https://phwildlifeart.gumroad.com/l/Balintongs-day-card-pangolin-valentines

How to make a dragon.
If you visit Binondo in Manila during Lunar New Year, you’ll find children dragon dancing at busy corners and streets for alms.
They take old fruit boxes, styrofoam cups, long pieces of fabric, red and yellow paint, and construct sturdy DIY dragons out of them. The kids dance, jump, and move the dragons up and down, left and right.
They dance for coins all day, as profusely as certain politicians sitting on wealth like no one’s watching.

Who champions your feet?
To "keep people on their toes" about foot care, I illustrated a simple foot character for the Coruña Foot and Ankle Institute based in the Philippines. The character teaches people about different foot issues and what to do to prevent them.
From art to foot care, put your best foot forward.
