Something I really love about A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening is how they mirror each other. Despite the fact that Link's Awakening has very little connection to A Link to the Past, it functions brilliantly as a sequel by complimenting and contrasting the latter.
A Link to the Past is a grand tale of destiny, of world-saving adventure that will no doubt go down as myth. Within the opening sequence of the game, your uncle dies in front of you, setting the tone for the rest of your adventure: this is serious, this is dark. You spend at least half your time in the 'Dark World', a corrupted realm with dangerous enemies, people trapped inside by their own greed. Your main enemy in the 'Light World' are brainwashed knights of Hyrule. And this game is difficult; enemies respawn constantly, ways to restore health are rare, a lot of the dungeons and bosses are incredibly punishing. Danger lurks around any corner, and there are very few truly safe areas in the game; and even then, they may be raided (see the Sanctuary).
Don't get me wrong: ultimately, A Link to the Past is a children's action/adventure game and the tone reflects that. There are a lot of fun, whimsical moments, and the darkness is more supposed to underscore the important nature of your quest than it's intended to be a horror upon itself. You are on a quest to save the world, and it wants you to feel the gravity of that. It is not afraid to get dark with it when it has to. This game takes itself very seriously, and wants you to take it serious as well.
In Link's Awakening, you get into the second dungeon by rescuing Madam MeowMeow's giant chainchomp Bowwow from dognappers. This game began as a fun side project of the developers and it shows. Link's Awakening is not a grand adventure to save the world: it is a quest to get off this fun, eccentric island. The stakes are lower and the game takes itself much less seriously, going so far as to incorporate Mario elements for no other reason than because it's fun. Perhaps this is version dependent (or, y'know, a skill issue on my part), I'm unsure, but at least Link's Awakening DX was also a lot less difficult than A Link to the Past, with much more frequent health drops and less and overall easier dungeons. It's not just that its story is more lighthearted; it feels less punishing to play than A Link to the Past. Link's Awakening does take itself serious when it has to, and asks that you take especially its emotional stakes seriously, of course; just like A Link to the Past has a lighter side, Link's Awakening has a more serious side. But ultimately, Link's Awakening never tries to fashion itself as some kind of grand adventure of myth: it's the tale of a single, strange island, as you grow to love it. Nothing more, nothing less.
In this, obviously, the two stories mirror each other: A Link to the Past with high stakes, a dark tone, and a harsh difficulty curve, contrasted to Link's Awakening, with lower stakes, a light-hearted tone, and much more forgiving gameplay. This works out beautifully for Link's Awakening; lots of sequels fall into the trap of trying to one-up the original, and it very often ends badly for them. Creating its own niche allows it to shine on its own without having to be compared to A Link to the Past, despite being a direct sequel. Famously, Majora's Mask also did this to great effect.
But what I find really interesting is how their endings contrast each other.
A Link to the Past has the most quintessential happy ending a game could possibly have. You reach the Triforce, and it magically makes everything okay again. People who died during the game (your uncle, the King of Hyrule, flute boy) are all alive and happy, Hyrule is thriving, all the maidens are save and happy, even the monster and the little ball from the Dark World, bully and victim in the game, are friends now. And finally, you place the Master Sword back in its pedestal, where it will sleep.... forever. (Hilarious with the power of hindsight, of course, but still.) A Link to the Past ends as happily as it possibly could have, with all the negative consequences of the game undone and everyone thriving. You fought a grueling fight, and now you and everyone you love gets to live happily ever after.
Link's Awakening, famously, does not end like that. From the beginning, you get clear hints that something is not right about Koholint, hints that become glaring fact as the game progresses and it's revealed that Koholint is a dream. And dreams have to end. Link's Awakening is not a tragedy; Koholint's disappearance is not a bad thing, and the game goes to great lengths to ensure you know this. Dreams are not meant to last forever, and waking the Wind Fish is Koholint's happy ending. And yet: it's sad. It's so terribly sad. Watching Koholint, the vibrant island you've come to love, disappear at the end of the game is heartwrenching. The ending of Link's Awakening is bittersweet, happy and sad at the same time. It's triumphant, it's necessary, and it's heartbreaking.
This, too, is a contrast and a compliment. In A Link to the Past, after all our hard work, we are rewarded with an uncomplicated happy ending that we simply do not get in Link's Awakening. Link's Awakening's ending is complicated; there is no way to soften the blow, to remove the consequences: Koholint will disappear. We see it happen. And we are not only asked to be okay with this: we are asked to be happy, despite how sad it is.
This is not something A Link to the Past does. A Link to the Past does not end with a shot of Link and Zelda happy despite the death of their caretakers, of Hyrule dealing with the consequences of Ganon's attack but growing despite it all; it ends by removing the effects of it entirely. Everyone who died is fine now, Hyrule is fine now, you are fine now. There is no sadness, no complexity: it is reality-defying happiness.
None of this is a bad thing: A Link to the Past has an extremely satisfying ending. But I love the way Link's Awakening contrasts it, forces you to deal with reality, to watch the dream pop and find beauty in it. Something can be sad and happy at the same time, and this is something to be celebrated. Where A Link to the Past offers you a no-string-attached happy ending, Link's Awakening forces you to confront the sadness that comes with happiness, complicates it in a way that A Link to the Past explicitly avoided.
A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, despite at first glance having very little to do with each other, work very well as a series because of the way the two games compliment each other: light where the other is dark, complex where the other is simple, mirroring each other near-perfectly. It makes it extremely worthwhile to read their stories in tandem to each other; taking the other game into account can enrich the stories of both games immensely.

Game Review: Wandersong
Tumblr media
I heavily debated reviewing this game. On one hand, I love it. It's an amazing game with a wonderful message and I've been thinking about it constantly. On the other hand, it's fucking buggy as hell and I'd never recommend it to anyone who has patience thinner than a 2x4 or epilepsy.
Welcome to Wandersong, where you play as one of the most bizarre creatures in the world.
An Extrovert.
Story:
Tumblr media
The world is ending and you gotta stop it! You're not a brave warrior or a clever mage, but you're a bard with a heart as big as your vocal chords. And by god you're gonna sing to save the world.
This game balances lighthearted goofiness and emotional depth with a good amount of skill. The characters are charming and funny, and the emotional moments are touching and thoughtful. The more you play to save this world, the more you fall in love with it.
Gameplay and Controls:
Tumblr media
If the story is the game's strongest point, the gameplay is it's weakest. BY A LONG SHOT.
I'm not gonna beat around the bush, this game is broken. The mechanics don't control very well, the physics of this world are often your enemy, and sometimes the game just will not work with you, which makes some puzzles just slightly more enjoyable than pulling out your own teeth with a crowbar.
In all honesty, I never got to finish the game. Because it Fucking broke halfway through. Fun fact, if you fail at one puzzle enough times because the physics simply refuse to work, the game just DELETES ASSETS FROM THE LEVEL. Have fun playing an invisible character falling through a platform that no longer exists, fucker.
To make matters worse, the accessibility options don't even work. I tried to toggle off the flashing lights option. It did fuck all. I tried to clear my game data to restart the game after it broke on me. The button does nothing. The only thing worse than a game with no accessibility options is a game with options that do jack shit and jill piss.
Sound:
Tumblr media
But, to a more positive note, the soundtrack of this game is very good. I do think it's a clever mechanic to use singing as your primary ability. And with a game that relies so heavily on music, it's no surprise that the music delivers, carrying the whimsical and adventurous tone of the story through its soundtrack. You're just a happy little guy singin' your way through this world, and the music does a great job of helping you feel that way. My favorite part was where you controlled a pirate ship with your voice. It's also very rewarding to recognize recurring motifs and see how they represent the overall story.
Art:
Tumblr media
The paper cut-out aesthetic of this 2-D game gives it a whimsical charm and a special aesthetic that helps make this game memorable. It just looks so cute. The character designs are all varied and unique, and the levels all have unique visual themes that keep the game vibrant and interesting all the way up until the end.
Playable, Replayable, or Unplayable?
Tumblr media
I want to say that it's a playable game. That you should play it. I fell in love with this game and its story, which is probably why its unplayable mechanics frustrated me so deeply. Though I wasn't able to finish the game, I did watch someone else's playthrough because I wanted to see how it ended, and I'm glad I did.
I loved the ending. I loved the way the story progressed and expanded, the themes that it used and the way that the characters developed. There was genuine heart behind the production of this game. If I could rank this game on story alone, I would give it a 10/10.
But for the game as a whole, a lot of things would need to change before I could mark this as an amazing game. The physics need reworking, the accessibility options need to actually function, and perhaps a failsafe like a level selector might be beneficial for people like me who got completely softlocked and would rather go to the beginning of the act rather than start over completely. It has amazing highs and some pretty bad lows, so because of this, I give this game a smack-dab in the middle 5/10.

@ghosttmachine tagged me in a get to know you meme thing (tyyy!!)! So. Here i am posting for oncce lez goooo
Last song:
Technical answer is post traumatic blues by corey taylor, bc ive been using the spotify dj thing and it keeps giving me metal that i o ly kinda like. The funner answer was rhe barbie movie ost since me and my friends literally just got back from it n my friend mariana had me play it in the car. Not rlly my thing was catchy (barbie movie was good btw! Posts abt it being like. Not the deepest critique of social issues and the like are correct but it was a fun time w a lot of heart + rlly great production value + honestly. Very funny. And i watched it w two of my best friends so :})
Currently reading:
For books:
When the Angels Left the Old Country
I haven't touched it in a hot sec, but its a queer, historical fantasy ya book based in jewish folklorex about an angel and a demon that leave europe, after a girl goes missing from the village they've set up shop in. It's very light and whimsical which is not my usual fare, but I'm enjoying it! Its very heartfelt and the two main leads have very good chemistry. And its always cool to see angel/demon lore outside the usual christian sphere.
For manga: steel ball run (part 7 of jojos bizarre adventure) its. A story about a cross continental horse race to find the body parts of jesus. Which is the most coherent way i can put it. Im rereading it w two of my friends rn and im enjoying it! It isnt my favorite part, but its up there, and features some of the best stuff in the series. This is. Also a story featuring a pair of ride or die protagonists with a very strong dynamic and chemistry (honestly, best 'set' of protags in the series) and so much comes from their bond. Its at the point in the series where it started getting a monthly release and it shows, w some rlly gorgeous art. Gyro and Diego are highlights artwise because the former doesnt have a stand he just. Has these steel balls he spins and throws around, so you get very dynamic shots of him just. Chucking them that the author uses in super creative ways to lead the eye and compose panels and the latter. Can turn himself and other things into dinosaurs. Have you ever seen a dinosaur ride a horse? Its fucking sick. It also has some interesting themes of american imperialism and christianity, of all things, which i think are done, well in some respects, esp given the authors track record. IT ALSO HAS SOME OF THE WORST STUFF IN THE SERIES THAT MAKES ME WANT TO KILL HIM W HAMMERS.
Currently watching:
Nothing in particular, but ive got a p big to watch list (Trigun, mob psycho, etc) and i just watched the barbie movie, like i said.
Current obsession:
Guess. Take a guess.
Jfc jojos bizarre adventure is holding me at gunpoint. Its not good its not bad (besides when it is) it its own tier of media. I forgot how much 15 year old me was obsessed w it and so i foolishly rewatched it thinking id be. Normal. I was wrong. God. I've never seen anything like it! It's so clearly a passion project from someone who's very eccentric and so it goes from absurd and stupid and comedic to circling right back to being very human and poignant. Like, it's about love! And familial trauma! And prevailing in the face of great tragedy! And also killing the president because jesus told you so! It's got a myriad of flaws from technical writing issues to genuinely tasteless/bigoted content, so its not some untouchable media, but ive been enjoying it a lot.
Part 5 and 8 are my favorites for very different reasons.
Part 5, Golden Wind, is abt a bunch of weird mobsters on a roadtrip through italy to kill their boss. It has a very charming supporting cast who are a sort of found family of societal rejects, brought together by this guy named Bruno who acts as a leader + mentor + sort of dad? To them. They're all surprisingly fleshed out characters, esp for this early on in the series, and their group dynamic, combined w some of the best fights in the entire show, really sell this part. The main character and main villain are. Not good. Sans a few aspects. Tho. Like i forget giorno is there half the time. (Giorno is my beloved stale cracker of a character but hes MY stale cracke, tho)
Part 8, Jojolion, is uh. Hm. It follows this amnesiac dude who wakes up in the dirt, as he tries to piece together the person he was. It's set in an au version of the town from part 4, w some characters being spins on old ones. Its the most recent part, and it shows. Its a lot better structured, paced, and developed compared to earlier parts. The mystery running through it has a lot of fun twists and turns, the themes are coherent, and the pace is slow, but not meandering. The supporting cast is fun (the lead's romantic interest is an actually decent jojo woman and they have a very cute relationship, and the family the main character is sort of adopted into are all fucking insane) but the real draw for me was the main character. Josuke (the second. Theres another josuke from an alternate universe in part 4, anyway) is probably my favorite jojo. I could go on about him, but compared to the others, he feels the most real? Theres this very grounded sense of frustration abt him as he tries and fails to piece together who he is, while everyone around him seems to have somethimg they need from him, or an idea of who he SHOULD be. He isnt a hero, he isnt even all that noble, hes just trying to find himself and if anyone out there loves him. He's blunt, one track minded, and is doing the jojo equivalent of spamming x to skip through all the dialogue bc hes not here for anyones shit beside his own. Jojolion somehow captures the feeling of being a weird, displaced pseudo adult trying to piece yourself together, while everything Keeps Fucking Happening. I love it so much. But by god does the ending suck hoooooly shit oh my god dude jesus christ. Fucking. I hate tohru i hate tohru i hate tohru fjcjendnxzlzm. Anyway jobin sweep
OTHER OBSESSIONS INCLUDE OCS AND DND.
Im currently running a csm tabletop n curse of strahd game, and am in a ravenloft game. They're all very different but i love them all.
Ravenloft game is a sort of sequel to the curse of strahd game i was in a while bsck
I play pageturn (kenku paladin) and coda (changeling flavored as fallen angel, bard). Ones a 13 year old w a kill drive going through a double crisis of faith while somehow being the heart of the group and the others a shapeshifting corrupted celestial, whos trying to find themself. we are currently exploring the fomain the latter was imprisoned in and have found the eye of vecna and. I am. Excited and concerned for what our wonderful dm has cooked up.
Chainsaw Man game is a high stakes office drama following the worst group of devil hunters youve ever seen. Its more episodic and light than my other games which is a nice change of pace, and i rlly like the energy our group brings to the table. I am always horrified and surprised by whatever new government supplied human rights violation they commit next! Every character is uniquely sad, while still maintaining the token csm dark comedy abt them. We are currently revisiting a mystery allll the way back from our first session and im stoked for some stuff i have planned.
Sippy Crew (curse of strahd game) is drawing to a close and ahh i could make a whole post abt how much these guys mean to me. Its been a joy dming for this group of freaks and watching as they come together not into a found family, but a group of distinctly doomed, but fiercely loyal individuals. They've had two pc deaths, even more close calls, and have lost so much, but they're pushing through like dandelions in concrete. Its genuinely the most emotionally invested ive been in a ttrpg, and am so excited, to see their journey come to a close, and will miss them dearly.
Both jojo and ttrrpgs have been a way to reconnect with friends i dont usually talk to as much, and strengthen the bonds of the friends that i do, which is why theyve hit so hard, haha.
anwyaY this turned out way longer than it needed to be bUt.
@turtleslothart @500sunstone you. Do this.

How Much is a Vape? A Light-Hearted Guide to Vaping Costs
Tumblr media
Welcome to the whimsical world of vaping, where clouds of vapor swirl like dreams and costs can be as unpredictable as a cat on a hot tin roof. Whether you're a seasoned vaper or a curious newcomer, the question on everyone's lips is, "How much is a vape?" Buckle up as we embark on a journey through the diverse landscape of vaping expenses, from the modest to the extravagant. The Starter Kit: Beginner's Budget or Bust? Starting your vaping adventure is like embarking on a new hobby—fun, exciting, and, yes, a bit confusing. The first investment you’ll make is in a starter kit, which can range from pocket change to the price of a fancy dinner date. Budget-Friendly Kits For the budget-conscious, basic vape pens or pod systems can be quite affordable, often ranging between $20 and $50. These kits usually include the device, a few pods or coils, and a charger. Think of it as the beginner’s bundle, like the "starter pack" in a video game—enough to get you going but not too fancy. Mid-Range Options If you’re willing to splurge a little more, mid-range starter kits offer better performance and more features, such as variable wattage and longer battery life. These typically cost between $50 and $100. It’s like upgrading from economy class to premium economy on a flight—more legroom, better service, and a generally smoother experience. Juice It Up: The Cost of E-Liquids E-liquids, or vape juices, are the lifeblood of your vaping device. They come in a dazzling array of flavors, from the classic tobacco to the exotic dragonfruit mojito. But how much does this liquid gold set you back? Budget Juices Basic e-liquids can be as cheap as $10 for a 30ml bottle. These are your no-frills options—simple flavors, no fancy packaging, but they get the job done. It’s like opting for a plain black coffee instead of a caramel macchiato. Premium Flavors For those with a taste for the finer things in life, premium e-liquids can cost $20 to $30 for the same 30ml. These juices often boast complex flavor profiles and higher-quality ingredients. Imagine sipping on a single-origin, barista-crafted coffee instead of your usual drip brew. The High Rollers: Advanced Mods and Accessories Once you've gotten a taste of vaping, you might find yourself wanting more power, more control, and, well, more clouds. This is where advanced mods and accessories come into play, and they can cost a pretty penny. Advanced Mods High-end mods can range from $100 to $200, offering features like temperature control, customizable settings, and high wattage capabilities. These devices are the sports cars of the vaping world—sleek, powerful, and sure to turn heads. Accessories Galore Then come the accessories: specialized coils, custom drip tips, and high-capacity batteries. These can add another $50 to $100 to your vaping budget. It’s akin to adding aftermarket spoilers and rims to your car—personal touches that enhance performance and style. The Long Haul: Maintenance and Upkeep Just like any hobby, vaping requires some ongoing expenses. Regular maintenance ensures your device runs smoothly and prolongs its lifespan. Replacement Coils and Pods Coils and pods need replacing every one to two weeks, depending on usage. This can cost around $10 to $20 per pack. It’s the equivalent of changing the oil in your car—an essential, recurring expense that keeps everything running smoothly. Cleaning and Spare Parts Keeping your device clean and functional might require the occasional purchase of cleaning supplies or spare parts. Budget another $10 to $20 every few months for these items. Think of it as buying cleaning products for your house—a necessary chore but one that keeps everything sparkling. Conclusion Navigating the costs of vaping can be as thrilling as the clouds themselves, from budget starter kits priced at $20 to $50, to mid-range options between $50 and $100. E-liquids, the flavorful heart of vaping, range from $10 for basic bottles to $30 for premium blends. For the advanced vaper, high-end mods and accessories can push expenses to $200 or more, akin to customizing a luxury car. Regular maintenance, like replacing coils and cleaning supplies, adds to the ongoing costs. This guide highlights that whether you're a budget-conscious beginner or a high-rolling enthusiast, vaping expenses can be tailored to fit any lifestyle. FAQs 1. How much does a basic vape starter kit cost? A basic vape starter kit typically costs between $20 and $50. These kits usually include a simple vape pen or pod system, a few pods or coils, and a charger. They are designed for beginners who want an affordable way to start vaping without investing too much money upfront. 2. What is the price range for e-liquids? E-liquids vary in price depending on the quality and complexity of the flavors. Budget-friendly options can be found for as low as $10 for a 30ml bottle, while premium e-liquids, which offer more complex flavor profiles and higher-quality ingredients, can cost between $20 and $30 for the same amount. 3. Are advanced mods and accessories worth the investment? Advanced mods and accessories can enhance the vaping experience significantly, offering features like temperature control and customizable settings. High-end mods can cost between $100 and $200, while additional accessories like specialized coils and custom drip tips can add another $50 to $100. If you enjoy customizing your vaping experience and want more control over your device, the investment can be worthwhile. 4. How often do I need to replace coils and pods, and what does it cost? Coils and pods typically need to be replaced every one to two weeks, depending on how frequently you vape. Replacement packs usually cost around $10 to $20. Regularly replacing these components is essential to maintain the quality of your vape and ensure a smooth vaping experience. 5. What are the ongoing maintenance costs for a vape device? In addition to replacing coils and pods, you should budget for cleaning supplies and occasional spare parts. These maintenance items can cost an additional $10 to $20 every few months. Regular upkeep is necessary to keep your device functioning properly and to extend its lifespan. Read the full article

The Art and Heart of Writing Big Books for Preschoolers: A Quick Guide
Tumblr media
Have you ever picked up a gorgeously illustrated, jumbo-sized book and see the twinkling eyes of preschoolers wide with wonder, eagerly awaiting each page turn? Well, that's the magic of big books for preschool. They're more than just large-print tales; they’re gateways to realms of imagination, carefully tailored for tiny hands and eager minds.
If you're looking to create one of these literary treasures, you're in for a delightful journey. Dive into our guide packed with dos, don’ts, and a sprinkle of fairy dust. Let’s start our storytelling adventure, shall we?
Understand Your Audience: The Curious Preschooler Mind
Preschoolers are bundles of joy and curiosity. Think about it: they're in a world where almost everything is new and interesting. Every puddle is a lake to jump over, every stick is a magical wand. When you're crafting big books for preschool, you want to hop into that mindset. You want to see the world with the same sense of awe and wonder.
So, where to start? Picture a simple thing like a rainbow. To you, it might be a lovely sight, but to a preschooler, it's a mystery, a work of art, and maybe even a bridge to a magical land! Now imagine using such a rainbow as a gateway to a whimsical world in your story. What lives at the end of it? Leprechauns? Fairies? The ideas are endless.
And let's not forget about the creatures or characters that inhabit your story. Animals, fantastical creatures, and even everyday heroes like firefighters or teachers can come to life with vivid personalities. Whether it's a talking turtle or a brave little girl, make sure your characters are relatable, full of life, and capable of capturing those young hearts.
Vivid Illustrations: Painting Worlds with Colors
Oh, the power of pictures. You could have the most enchanting tale ever told, but if it’s paired with lackluster illustrations, it might fall flat. Remember, for kids, pictures aren’t just decorations. They’re the windows into the world you’ve created. They make the story tangible, relatable, and oh-so-magical.
Picture this: A page describing a forest filled with fairies. Now add twinkling lights, glowing mushrooms, and iridescent wings to the illustration. Instantly, the forest isn't just 'a forest' anymore; it's a fairy wonderland that kids would give anything to visit. It's that kind of magical thinking that takes your big book from good to "read it again"
And here's something fun: think about adding little details that aren’t mentioned in the text but add depth to the story. A hidden caterpillar on each page or a recurring background character can turn reading into a fun 'spot-the-detail' game. Kids love it, and it keeps them engaged from start to finish. Trust me, they'll flip through the pages over and over just to point out these hidden gems.
Language & Vocabulary: Simple, Sweet, and to the Point
When it comes to the language of children’s big books, simpler is usually better. We're talking easy-to-understand words, short sentences, and lots of action verbs. Make the apple 'tumble' instead of 'fall.' Let the dog 'dash' instead of 'run.' Simple tweaks can make your story a lot more dynamic and engaging.
Rhyming? Absolutely, yes. Rhymes are like the catchy chorus of a song; they stick in your head and make you want to read (or sing) along. "The sun is out, let’s give it a shout. It’s time to play, hip, hip, hooray" See? Instantly engaging and super memorable.
But wait, there’s more. Repetition is another excellent tool for your storytelling toolbox. It's not just filler; it’s a clever way to build suspense and help young readers predict what's coming next. Imagine a story where a little boy goes fishing.
Each time he casts his line, uses a repetitive phrase like, "Down, down, down went the hook." The kids will eagerly anticipate what happens next and feel super smart when they guess it right.
Themes and Morals: Lessons Wrapped in Fun
Remember the stories you heard as a child? The ones with sneaky foxes, brave lions, and magical lands? They weren’t just tales. They were life lessons wrapped in vibrant tales, teaching us about courage, friendship, honesty, and so much more. Your big book should aim to do just the same.
Instead of overtly stating, "Lying is bad," spin a tale around a little mouse who tells a fib and then faces the music. Or, if you want to touch upon themes of friendship and kindness, weave a narrative around animals who help each other in times of trouble. Think about “The Lion and the Mouse” and the profound lesson it imparts without being preachy.
But here's the cherry on top: make it relatable. Instead of grand events, focus on everyday situations. Maybe it's about waiting in line and learning patience or sharing toys during playtime. When kids see scenarios they face in real life, they connect more deeply and understand the message better.
Interaction and Engagement: Making Reading a Two-way Street
Kids are naturally interactive. They don’t just want to listen; they want to participate, comment, ask, and sometimes even argue! So why should your big book be any different? Turn the passive act of reading into an interactive session filled with excitement.
Imagine a scene where a character is deciding what to wear. Why not make it a choice? Ask the readers, "Should she wear the red hat or the blue one?" or "Which path should he take: the sunny meadow or the mysterious forest?" Kids get to decide, and in doing so, they become a part of the story.
Interactive elements like flaps, pop-ups, and touch-and-feel textures are also golden. Consider a story about a jungle adventure. Wouldn't it be thrilling if kids could lift a flap to discover a hidden animal or feel the rough texture of a tree bark? It’s these elements that turn reading into a multi-sensory journey. For more details visit us at https://www.bbbg.org/.
Rhythm and Flow: The Musicality of Words
The rhythm of a story is its heartbeat. It's what keeps kids hooked and makes them sway, tap, and groove. Every word, and every sentence should flow like a song, carrying readers smoothly from one page to the next.
Have you ever played with a bouncy ball? The way it goes up and down, up and down, is a lot like how rhythmic stories feel. Take a leaf, a raindrop, or a butterfly. Describe its journey. Does it flutter, float, or dance? The choice of words can give your story a unique rhythm that kids will love.
But remember, it's not just about rhyming; it's about the feel. You could rhyme 'cat' with 'hat' or 'bat,' but if it doesn't flow or feel right in the context of the story, it won't resonate. Try reading your story aloud. Tap your foot, and clap your hands. If it makes you move, you’re on the right track.
In Conclusion: Crafting a Tale that Shines
Creating big books for preschool isn’t just about telling a story; it’s about kindling imaginations, igniting curiosity, and weaving dreams. By understanding your audience, opting for vivid imagery, choosing simple language, and incorporating rhythm and engagement, you'll be crafting tales that not only captivate but also educate and inspire.
So, grab your pen (or keyboard), let your imagination soar, and embark on the magical journey of creating stories that resonate with every turn of the page.

Wine and Welzie - Fun Art Night at the Welzie Art Gallery, Wailea Maui
Art and wine is a favorite combination of ours, they belong together the same way beach sunsets, rainbows and aloha are just part of Hawaii. This type of experience blends a feeling of whimsical with culture, it is no wonder Wine + Welzie has become an exceedingly popular monthly event at The Welzie Art Gallery.
As you walk through the Andaz Resort at Wailea, you are greeted by a mesmerizing ocean view, chill music blended with an upscale aloha vibe. You turn down the hallway and begin to hear people chatting and laughing as you enter the Welzie Art Gallery. This time your eyes see bright, fun and colorful artwork, pictures of Maui, turtles, sharks and goats snorkeling. The view of the ocean and sunset encompass a table filled with wine glasses and beverages.  You are greeted by a Gallery host with a big smile and she hands you a fresh glass of white wine as you begin to make your tour through the Welzie Art Gallery.  Everytime you look at an art piece you can’t help but smile at the light hearted and whimsical nature of Welzie Art.
Welzie Art is such a unique medium created from surfboard foam, fiberglass and resin. Each piece is hand sculpted just like a surfboard.  The artwork has a cool and trendy vibe to it and the gloss on each piece makes you want to run your hand across it like a surfer grabbing their favorite surfboard. The designs and imagery are playful and feel fresh, even the sculptures make you want to touch them.
Welzie hosts a monthly Art + Wine event in his Gallery to showcase new art, sculptures and to socialize with other friends who appreciate the nature of creativity and fine art. The Gallery is pulsing with happy energy as people gather around Welzie’s table watching him paint, dedicate and artist proof art piece for the new and seasoned collectors. You can feel the excitement as one of the guests walks up with a huge smile and shakes Welzie’s hand. He has just purchased a Silk Screen print and Welzie begins to hand paint this piece in front of the audience, we find out later this is called artist proofing and is one of the highlights that a live art night can offer.  The line of collectors is growing as each waits patiently for Welzie to sign their artwork and document their purchase and meeting the artist.
A couple walks up and meets Welzie, they share that they are on their honeymoon and have bought their first piece of art as a married couple. Welzie’s Team lays out the large Aluminum Reproduction and Welzie turns it over and begins to sign the back. As the couple is talking about their honeymoon adventure we begin to see Welzie drawing what they are telling him they did on their trip. There are turtles, sharks and shave ice on the back of their art piece. The couple thanks Wellzie and says “We don’t know which side should face the front now!”
Wine + Welzie is such a unique and fun evening that encourages socializing with the artist and other collectors while appreciating delicious wine and beautiful views in Maui. This event is a complimentary offering to the resort guests in Wailea and the community of Maui. Through the love of art we can all find connection and appreciation for vibrant color, creativity and socializing. You are invited to join us for an evening of art and wine appreciation each month at the Welzie Art Gallery located at The Andaz Resort, Wailea. Find our calendar dates on our website under Wine + Welzie.

♱ 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
outward appearance means nothing if your are unable to carry yourself with grace and confidence. it’s important to radiate an aura that is unique to u and is beautiful and enchanting to others. find your essence. are u an ethereal innocent angel or a bombshell femme fatale? Just by channeling in a sort of character in your demeanour can drastically change how other people view you. you might be wondering “hey this is a bit much just for school,” and ur right but it’s all fun at the end of the day

femme fatale: noun
an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who is likely to cause distress or disaster to a man who becomes involved with her.
"a femme fatale who plays one man off against another in pursuit of money"
a femme fatale is a women who shows power through how well she can toy with a mans brain. in hindsight she might seem like a women catered to the male gaze due to the strong enchantment she has upon men, but do not be fooled. a femme fatale is a strong willed and powerful women who only caters to her own needs. she achieves her goals by seducing her pawns to use them to her own advantage. channeling in the characteristics of a femme fatale can make one feel powerful, sexy, and oh so alluring. to become a femme fatale you must ooze with seduction. femme fatale examples include gilda, from the movie “gilda”, jane smith from “mr. and mrs. smith, and amy dunne from “gone girl”.
feel powerful when you walk from one place to another. let other people stare at you while they feel intrigued by ur allure but never completely give them what they want.
make your appearance look bold and striking. be sexy. dress to show off what other people want for themselves. wear dark and luxurious colours. let your hair be free and voluptuous. a bold lip and sharp eye makeup brings attention to the most seductive parts of your face. a femme fatale is nothing without a striking appearance
have your voice sound like smooth whiskey. speak slow to captivate others. make sure your voice comes out prominent and clear. add a slight rasp into your voice. each word u speak should be carefully chosen. people should be addicted to hearing you speak. be sassy and smart but always with class.
smell expensive. pick a scent that exudes class. examples: black orchid by tom ford. mugler alien. good girl by carolina herrera.
a femme fatale makes sure to always get her way. don’t be afraid to use ur seductive quality’s to get what u want whether that is good grades or social status. [ however do not put urself in dangerous positions. please don’t sleep with a teacher lmao ]

Tumblr media Tumblr media
coquette: noun
a woman who flirts.
in my own definition a coquette to me is a girl who is delicate and radiates innocence. she is more commonly known as the girl next door or the pretty girl. people become attracted to this essence due to the childish ways of a coquette. though that sounds concerning, a coquette isn’t a women who tries to act like a child on purpose. she is just a women who is naturally sweet and innocent. they hold onto a childlike quality that the rest of us have lost and so desperately crave. the allure of the coquette is ultimately her adorableness. her demeanour is light hearted and youthful. no one feels the need to do her wrong because she is just too cute for any harm. she is an ingenue. examples of coquettes are lizzy grant, cat valentine from “victorious”, alice cullen from “twilight”, and marilyn monroe.
wear clothes that make u look cute. the coquette aesthetic has been around for quite a while. the main aspect of a coquette outfit is its innocently teasing nature. wear bright colours that compliment ur skin like a blush pink, bright reds, and pretty lilacs. make people around u appreciate ur innocent look but know that there imagination is running wild. the makeup for these looks are more natural and rely on the condition of ur actual skin. take good care of ur skin. have a set routine but remember that it’s completely okay if u have pimples! you can still be a pretty little coquette even with acne.
vanilla or any kind of sweet scents are a staple for the coquette essence. ariana grandes perfumes are perfect for making people mouths water for a sweet snack when u walk by. olympea by paco rabanne is my personal favourite.
be kind and sweet to people who deserve it. people need to see u as a sweet and innocent doll who can do no wrong. but don’t be afraid to be risky and be the complete opposite of that once in a while. the rare moments where u show ur femme fatale side will have people incredibly intrigued by you.
perfect your voice. your voice should sound pleasant like some sort of princess. make your voice sound higher but not ear screeching high. add a beautiful mix of air and softness to ur voice. a breathy voice is incredibly intoxicating and suits the coquette.

pêle-mêle: adverb
in a confused, rushed, or disorderly manner.
also known as the manic pixie dream girl, a pêle-mêle is the essence of a girl who is described as whimsical, eccentric and is quite literal the life of the party. though at first glance she’s all rainbows and sun shine, the shadow side of the pêle-mêle can be described as a tortured artist. her optimism is delightful. she is not afraid to take risks. she’s a mess but people can not help to be intrigued by her free spirited ways for she is a drug to people who crave adventure. examples of a pêle-mêle include ramona flowers from scott pilgrim vs the world, mia wallace from pulp fiction, harley quinn from the DC comics, and holly golighty from breakfast at tiffany’s.
don’t be afraid to take risks. risks and adventure is what the pêle-mêle lives off of. be brave. do things you are afraid to do. start small and work your way up like from riding that roller coaster your so afraid of to having a motorcycle race with your friends (trust me those are so fun!). show people just how daring you can be and immediately people will be magnetized to you.
wear clothes that are unique and you feel comfortable with. the pêle-mêle rejects conformity and the way you appear should reflect that. wear clothes that harmonize with your crazy personality. be daring and bold with your makeup. make sure you stand out from the crowd and that you do not care what people think. the alternative style perfectly suits someone who embodies this essence.
be confident. obviously this rule applies to all the essences but confidence and self love is at the core of the pêle-mêle. you need to show people that you do not care what they think of you and that at the end of the day, you are just here for a good time. the more you practice self love, the easier it will be for you to express yourself without the fear of judgement from others.
be a socialite. don’t be afraid to speak your mind to people. pêle-mêle’s are usually people persons. they love good company that they can go on adventures with. make friends by being your true self and don’t hold yourself back. even a few mishaps by saying the wrong thing from time to time can make people fall in love with your clumsy nature.
obviously there are plenty of other essences you can achieve for yourself but these are my top three favourites. to find out who exactly who you want to become try the few tips listed below!
how to find your personal essence
what kind of people captivate you? what type of personalities do you see that you wish you could be? do you find yourself being envious of the pretty girl next door, the man eater, or the mysterious persona? figure out what kind of a person do u wish to truly become and inherit their manner. find out the characteristic of ur desired essence to the littlest of detail. this can include from the way you walk, talk, eat, sleep, look, smell ext. think of this as becoming your ideal best self. take the female archetype quiz to get a better understanding of your self.
what kind of aesthetic catches your eye? do you enjoy the glamorous high fashion life or do you like the softer cherry coke and heart shaped sunglasses niche? maybe you enjoy completely different things or a blend of a few. live up to this aesthetic. do this by expressing this aesthetic in the way you dress to how u decorate your room.
what kind of environment do you feel the most comfortable in? are you someone who loves education and school? or do you love the idea of being free and living in an RV for the rest of your life? maybe you just want to live in a cozy high rise new york apartment or a huge mansion up in beverly hills. envision where you see your ideal self in 10-20 years. your ideal environment can reveal a lot about what kind of lifestyle choices you want to make.
you might be thinking to yourself hey these aren’t the best tips for school. and at an educational standpoint you’re right. but it’s important to embody your best ideal self to truly enjoy this lifetime. these are little things that can be used to motivate you. i believe that inner self work should be prioritized over your school work though both are important. make sure you are taking some time out of your week to find out more about yourself and who you want to become. be the best you.

AN: hello friends! this is a little something i came up with using this lovely moodboard by the ever-talented @flowers-in-your-hayr . this is also in celebration of her hitting 650+ followers! congratulations my dear, you are a light and deserve all of the love.
warnings: this piece is under the cut because it delves heavily into pregnancy and babies!
The changes were somewhat slow to note in the beginning.
There had been intense morning sickness throughout the first trimester; nausea on a level she had never fathomed before. It had been so terrible that some days the only task she could muster successfully was peeling herself from her duvet to stand beneath a near-scalding shower, arms braced against the glossy, tiled walls and chest heaving under the duress of the waves roiling deep in her belly.
Sleep, when she could come by it, was an absolute reprieve that came fast and all-consuming for her.
And then one morning- a couple of weeks shy of her third trimester, she had been standing naked and dripping in front of the fogged mirror in their on-suite washroom, when she noticed as if for the first time, the burgeoning bump of her belly. She watched the rounded curve of the life form growing inside of her with a hungry, fascinated gaze.
“Good morning baby,” Alexander had appeared behind her suddenly, his warm hands reaching around her front to caress the growing bump. He dropped to his knees to press a series of tender kisses to the taut skin there. “You be kind to your mama today, hm? She's been having a bit of a rough go of it lately…” Rising to stand, he reached for the stick of Shea butter balm, removed the cap, and began to roll it over her stomach in soothing circles. She had grown self-conscious of the opaque lines that had started to grow on her belly in the months leading up to their child's birth but he remained steadfast in his utter adoration and admiration for her and what her body was doing for them, regardless. “How are you feeling today, gorgeous girl?”
She had considered the question carefully; mulled over each possible answer in her mind and sighed softly, opting for the truth. “I'm tired today, Alex.” And she was. She had known that they were approaching the tail-end of this whirlwind adventure. Knew that in the next few months their baby would be earth-side with them, knew in her heart how quickly time would pass until then.
He smiled down at her, his azure blue eyes glassy and utterly empathetic. “I'm sure you are. I have two meetings in the city today, and then I'm all yours for the next couple of weeks. What do you say we grab dinner out tonight?”
A small sigh of relief before her lips curved up into a half smile. “I'd say you got yourself a date, Skarsgård.”
And then there was the moment she had woken up from a dead sleep three weeks before she gave birth. A slick sheen of perspiration covered every square inch of her body as she fought for a proper breath, and Alexander- bless his heart, in his sleep-heavy state had assumed that this was it. He had leapt out of bed, hand poised around the leather handle of the diaper bag next to his night side table. It, of course, wasn't it- rather she had been the victim of a nightmare of such terror that she could not begin to explain, or quantify, but that had shaken her to her very core. She was gripped with a fear the likes of which she had never felt before or since. It was a palpable, ugly thing that sidled itself inside her chest and caused tears to rush in rivers down her cheeks. All Alexander could do was hold her tight and rock her until the heaving stopped, the seemingly bottomless well of saltwater behind her eyes dry for the time being.
“What on earth is going on, kid?”
She had taken a deep breath, her eyes felt as if someone had dried them with sheets of sandpaper. “I'm scared, Alex.”
He clicked his tongue and held her ever tighter to his chest. “Of course you are. Of course you are. That's completely normal, my love.”
She trembled violently beneath him. “I need to feel like I'm not going to fuck this child up somehow… I need to know I'm going to be okay at this.”
Alexander pressed his lips to her temple, his warm breath as it fanned out over her face helped to quell her panic somewhat. “You're going to be okay at this,” He rubbed reassuring circles into the small of her back. “We're going to be okay at this. Together. We're going to make mistakes- that's a given. But there’s no way this child won't know love. Because it lives right here with us.”
One Monday morning, about a week prior to giving birth, she had found herself admiring the finishing touches to their nursery. A wooden rocking chair- possibly her most favourite part of the room, stood unsuspecting in the corner next to the open window. It was cracked to help the heady scent of fresh paint dissipate and she held her arms a little tighter to herself to ward off the early morning May breeze. A brand-new bookshelf was already chockful with material- titles ranging anywhere from The Very Hungry Caterpillar, to Where the Wild Things Are, to The Little Book of Fika- stood next to the rocking chair. Adorning the top of the shelf were photographs from their maternity shoot, some framed sonograms and a bear-shaped lamp. The walls had been washed in a soft beige, with Alexander insisting on some kind of fun decal- a tall tree and a rainbow helped to spruce up the adjacent accent wall. The whimsical plush animals of their baby’s mobile swayed gently in the breeze and she smiled to herself again. Reaching for the radio next to the crib, she flicked it on and braced herself against the wooden railing to stretch. Everybody Wants to Rule the World had come on and she dropped her head back and began to dance to the calming sway of the song. Regrettably, she hadn’t done much of it all during her pregnancy, but it felt necessary and wonderful to be as connected as possible to the little light inside of her before they were separated for good.
“Whatcha doing there, mama?”
Not noticing her sudden company until he had made himself known, she splayed her hands around her bump and beamed up at Alexander from his perch in the doorway. “I’m dancing this baby out, papa.”
“Mind if I join you?”
Her smile grew tenfold. “We’d love that.”
Alexander closed the short distance and wrapped himself around her; the velvet-soft rust coloured sweater that he had chosen for the day reminded her of the miniscule onesie tucked away in the dresser a few feet away. She leaned into his touch, letting his embrace warm the pair of them wholly. “Are you ready?” She murmured, after a while.
“Not even remotely,” He confirmed. “But that’s the beauty of it, isn’t it?”
Their baby girl arrived early in the morning of the twenty-first of May. At about six pounds thirteen ounces, she was almost incomprehensively small but easily the most beautiful creature they had ever laid eyes on. She fit nearly perfectly in the palm of Alexander’s hands and came complete with ten miniscule fingers and toes. Her eyes, when they were open, were a breathtaking hue of blue- one of the countless things her papa had bestowed her. A name had been elusive to them until they were in the comfort of their own home, her tiny frame swallowed up by an expert swaddle, and tucked easily inside the crook of Alexander’s forearm. “Well, what do you think kid?” He peered down at her, his eyes tired, but alight with a fire she had become familiar with in the days after their baby's arrival.
“I think it’s a beautiful name, Alex.”
He cleared his throat and blinked back a couple of tears as he gazed down at his sleeping daughter. “Welcome to the world, Maja Elizabeth Skarsgård. We love you endlessly already.”
And he had been right all along, of course.
It was never going to be easy and sleep was never going to be readily available again. They were going to screw up somewhere down the line. But to be blissfully hopeful for the future and for their family was easy- because love lived there.

Happiest birthday! Thank you for such a wonderful demo. Stay hydrated and enjoy your day!!
On that note, what would be the best birthday gift for each of the ROs? 🎁🎈
Thank you so much!
Hydration will stay at the top of my list I assure you.
Hmm... okay, lets treat this as a mini react for this odd hiatus week.
I'm gonna twist this slightly and have not only what the best gift for them, but also what they'd give the MC on their birthday as well.
P
A Garden Party: Now, hear me out, I know we're starting with kind of an odd present, but the more I think about it the more I'm certain this would be the best possibility. You see P would most likely ask for something totally practical and related to work, which is all fine and good but on a day when they're suppose to be relaxing with friends and family, doesn't really give the right vibes. A Garden Party, everyone crowded outside in the sunshine, under linen canopies, with sugared cakes, buttery tarts and biscuits, a glass of chilled fruit wine/juice. That would be something you absolutely couldn't enjoy in anything but the moment. If they want to help clean up afterwards then that's fine, not like any of us could stop them is it.
A Handmade Leather Pouch or Satchel: Now P comes from a clan of craftspeople, Huite does carpentry, Edony's a cooper, another cousin manages the blacksmiths, while others in the family Starling ply their trades in other professions around the town. We already touched upon the practical, so I think it goes without saying that P's gift would also follow this trend. They'd spend quite moments by the fireside in the kitchen, cutting strips of finely waxed leather, folding together seam and structure, each stitch considered and careful as they tailored the gift they think would suit the MC the best. When it was done they'd wave off any praise or astonishment as simply being worth it to see the MC's smile (because they're a heart throb and they know it).
L
A Family Portrait: L is fun loving, jovial, and doesn't really need an excuse to have fun, so parties aren't a necessary consideration like they were with P. What they do worry about though is their relationship with the group. It's often hidden behind humour, and hijinks, but L really does get anxious about how the others see them, whether they annoy everyone, how they sometimes take jokes too far. So, the best present for them would be a reminder that they are loved and accepted by their friends and family. A little portrait of everyone sitting in their best clothes all nestled together beside the water or in the kitchen, all smiling, happy and bright, that would be one of the best presents anyone could ever give them.
A Toy: Something utterly impractical, with absolutely no discernable uses apart from to have fun. The exact form would match the MC, if the MC was a hunter the gift would be a toy boat, if they were a scrivener it would be brightly coloured inks too garish to use for any serious document. It would also be something the CH could enjoy as well, though you can bet if there are hijinks to be had, L will also be joining in with much enthusiasm.
A
A Story Book: A loves stories, the more elaborate and fantastical the better. Working with Erda can often mean that they buried in tomes on herbal tinctures and arcane practices, so a frivolous tale about whimsical happenings and wild adventures are welcome relief. If the MC (or the others) could find a book of stories from their mother's homeland all the better. And you can bet that A would happily read aloud to the gathered household whenever requested.
Something pretty/handsome: It's much more a matter of the MC's personal taste when it comes to what A would give them. If the MC was a fan of jewellery, pretty little delicate adornments of silver chains with feather-light pendants, A would spend months hunting down the finest one they could. If the MC was more a fan of practical comfortable clothing and always felt the winter chill, A would find the warmest scarf, woven in colours and patterns to match the colour of their eyes. If the MC always took extra care of their hair, A would hunt down the most handsome broach or beading they could, and happily help the MC weave it into their tresses.
K
Promises: To say anymore would be huge spoilers, but suffice to say that actions speak far louder than material gifts with K.
Time: K would give the MC time. Not in the metaphysical sense, lets not get too excited now. They would find out what the MC always felt they didn't have the time to do, and they would make that so. Within the realms of what is practically possible of course. Say the MC always wanted to read a particular book, but never had the time to do so in their busy life. K would badger, bully, and beg the others to babysit (none of which would be necessary considering how much the others adore them) the CH. They'd keep the rest of the town away, they'd construct the perfect little reading nest, they'd keep the MC supplied with sustenance, quiet, and company if required, so that they might finally have the space and time to do what they want.

Dream Sequence. Lucio
It’s been a while since I had so much fun writing something. No plot, really, it’s a pretty light read and I am proud of it.
All parts of the trilogy: Lucio - Asra - Julian - All stories in PDF
A part of the "trilogy" about dream encounters dedicated to Lucio (because I love him, apparently). Nothing special, just You (or the Apprentice, or the Reader, however you view it) and Lucio spending some time together (if you know what I mean, which you probably don't, so go ahead and read it, it's pretty short, I promise). My character was male, but you are free to imagine whoever you want since there are no references to it in the text.
Genres: Romance, Fluff, Humor, Dreams, POV First Person, One-shot, Light-hearted
Pairing: Lucio/Apprentice(or Reader or You or Whatever)
Characters: Lucio, Reader/Apprentice/You
Rating: G for Geez that’s a good story
Size: around 2500 words
I open my eyes and look around. The room I am in is quite spacious. Despite barely containing any decorations or even furniture, somehow it still feels inviting and cosy. It is dimly lit, the only light sources that I can spot are a few candles standing here and there.
Suddenly, I hear a loud thud, as if something heavy fell on the floor, and I hastily turn around to investigate. I immediately spot an empty decanter lying on the ground at the leg of an old wooden table and a figure crouching beside it. The figure looks like it’s glowing in the darkness of the room because everything about it is so brightly white.
“Didn’t mean to scare you,” says Lucio awkwardly and stands up, cradling the decanter in his arms. “Or did I?” he immediately proceeds to ask, roguish smile plastered on his face.
I smile in return and shake my head. This is probably another dream we’re sharing. It happened a few times before. There is no logical end to it, no specific purpose, nothing. We just seem to linger in an accidental place, surrounded by whimsical decorations or nothing at all, until one of us wakes up and cuts the ties to this place rendering it forever lost in time and space. I suppose it has something to do with our connection as the spirit of Lucio seems to be drawn to me whenever I slip out from the deep slumber and see dreams.
“And why would you want to do that?” I ask and cross my arms, raising my eyebrow inquiringly.
“Isn’t it obvious? If you’re scared, you will seek my protection and want to hold hands. Maybe, even more than that,” he responds without even a hint of embarrassment and casually puts the decanter back on the table.
“Oh, you would need to do more than that to scare me, don’t you know?” I say playfully. This encounter doesn’t seem to differ much those we usually have, so I decide to behave as I always do around him.
“What a shame…” he says and pouts, hardly being able to supress his impish smile. “I was hoping I could find a reason to hold you.”
“Since when do you need a reason to do that?” I ask as he slowly approaches, his walk as gracious as ever.
“Huh, true,” he says and grins, now standing much closer to me. There is not enough light in the room for me to see the features of his face clearly, but I am nevertheless able to spot the playful glim in his eyes.
“What do you feel like doing this time?” I ask more seriously. We’ve been on quite a few thrilling trips in my dreams as they are often filled with peculiar apparitions and location, but right now I cannot find anything that could interest Lucio with his insatiable appetite for adventures.
“Hm…” He puts an index finger to his lips and musingly looks around. As I expected, nothing in the room is able to pique his curiosity so his gaze wanders back to me.
“I have an idea,” he says mischievously and immediately covers my eyes with his hand for a second. When his hand is removed, the only thing I can see is complete darkness.
Intrigued, I summon a small glowing orb to light up the place. To my surprise, we are in a completely different room that resembles a closet more than anything else. The place is a tight squeeze, with Lucio standing right before me and the orb hovering above us. Though we’re not actually close enough to be touching, there is hardly enough room to move around at all.
The room quickly fills with heat and I feel my head spinning. The feeling of almost tangible warmth around me reminds me of the time I first met Lucio. His presence had the same effect on his surroundings, which seems to be the sign of him being agitated or excited about something. My gaze is wandering from his jawline to collarbone and back since I don’t want to stare him directly in the eyes. Lucio might be shameless, but I immediately feel flustered in such a situation.
“You are quite a fast learner,” I say nonchalantly, looking up for a split second. He grins even more, flattered by my words.
In spite of his utter incapability when it came to using magic in the real world, he somehow was able to learn to manipulate matter in my dreams quite easily. There was rarely a need for him to resort to this skill, but his still tried to use every opportunity he had to give it a try.
“I can do many more things,” he says and moves closer to me, resting his heavy gilded hand against the wall right above my head and leaning a bit closer. “You know, I am very talented.”
I nod and look down. The orb illuminates every little detail of his face, and I am afraid he is provided with the same sight of mine, so I do my best to hide my flustered expression. I find the position we are in uncomfortable, but I am also curios to see what he has on his mind.
Lucio leans even closer, propped up on his arm, and starts whispering into my ear.
“Have any plans for tonight?” he asks, his eyes narrowed in a cunning smile.
“No, not that I am aware of at least,” I reply. “What are you up to?”
“Well, I was thinking we might find a monstrous beast for me to slay…” he whispers, tickling my ear with his warm breath, “I would look exceptionally good swinging its ugly head left and right, with a few light wounds here and there and covered in its blood. Or we might show up to an extravagant ball and have the time of our lives there. We could demonstrate the public our best, most elaborate dance, and they would cheer and applaud, flabbergasted at our awesomeness and grace.”
I chuckle a bit at how unsurprisingly flashy his suggestions are. But it is usually my job to tease him, so I can’t let him beat me so easily, even if I seem to be much less at ease in such… circumstances.
“Your idea certainly sounds entertaining,” I mutter and slide my hand down his side and onto his waist.
“Wh– which one exactly?” he asks, visibly taken aback by my display of interest.
“Both of them, actually,” I say, as my hand wraps around him and pulls him a tad closer.
Lucio’s face blossoms with light-pink and he lets out his breath with a loud sigh. The air of confidence he always has around him disperses in a matter of seconds every time I unexpectedly agree to play by his rules. He just cannot get used to it for some reason.
“And… which one would you chose?” he asks carefully, moving away from my red ear to steal a glance at my face. He is a bit taller than me and stands so close that it’s hard for me to look at anything else except for his squinted eyes and blond locks of hair framing his face.
I pull him even closer, pressing him to me and squeezing his side, and rest my other hand on his cheek. His face is growing redder every second and he starts to squirm a little, trying to avoid my gaze and the intimacy he seems to still secretly enjoy.
“I believe, I have an even better idea,” I say, smiling, and raise my hand to cover his eyes for a split second.
Before he has the time to protest, we are back in the room we first appeared and it is hardly different from the way we left it. I release him from my grip and give him a light push on the chest. With nothing to grab on his way down, he helplessly falls onto the bed behind him, a startled “Ah!” escaping his lips.
I smile, savouring the look of surprise on his face, and approach the bed.
Lucio is flushed but doesn’t seem to mind losing control over the situation. Invitingly, he reaches out with his hand to me, but I shake my head and climb on the bead on top of him without his help.
The bed is incredibly soft so I doubt he felt any discomfort landing on it. It reminds me of the one I saw in Lucio’s old chambers, only in its pre-catastrophic state. The cover is pleasant to the touch and seems to be crimson, but it’s difficult to discern the colour in almost complete absence of light in the room.
“You’ve got something red on your cheeks,” I say playfully and run my hand over the side of his face. It’s warm, hot even, and I feel the muscles twitch on his face as he smiles at me.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” he says casually, “when I felt you were here, I ran with all my might to get to you as fast as I could (and had to cover infinitesimal distances, of course) so now I might feel a little too warm.”
I quickly land a kiss on each of his cheeks, pressing him more with the weight of my body, and he laughs merrily, trying to catch my hands in the process.
“There’s something here as well,” I say and kiss Lucio on the tip of his nose.
He tries to escape my touch and turns away, giggling, so I kiss his ear shell which is even redder than his face now.
He struggles playfully a bit, but it doesn’t feel like he really wants to win this fight. I stop to look at him, and he returns my glance without a second thought. His hands are resting on my thighs and he moves them up and down carefully.
“You’re as light as a feather,” he notes, tilting his head, “we need to start feeding you properly. What is your favourite food?”
I take a second to consider my answer.
“Bread. With spices,” I reply, remembering fondly the times Asra and I would go to the bakery near our shop and enjoy the heavenly taste of freshly baked bread.
“Then it’s decided!” says Lucio excitedly and lands his hands on my thighs with a clap. “When I’m officially reinstated as the Count, I’m going to buy you all of the bread I can find! No, the whole stall! No, wait, the whole street! I will buy you a whole street worth of shops with all the bakeries you want!”
I cannot help but laugh at how foolishly he behaves. He pouts and turns away, trying to pretend that he lost interest in me.
“Okay, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” I say, still laughing. “I am truly sorry, Your Highness. How could I ever make up to what I have done?” I ask inquisitively, observing his face.
Lucio’s eyes spark with mischief again and he pretends to be thoughtful before proceeding to say what has been on his mind, perhaps, this whole time.
“I might forgive you if you lend me a hand for something. There seems to be something wrong with me…” he says worriedly, but I am not buying into his act. “Something wrong…” he repeats, slyness becoming visible through his cracked façade of seriousness. “It’s become so hard to breathe, I am almost suffocating… Could you please help me with this problem? Pretty please?” he says and dramatically rests his hand on his neck. I look into his eyes full of fake innocence and nod with understanding.
Lucio moves his hand away and starts watching me with unhidden curiosity and excitement. I carefully touch his chest which is rising and falling steadily and, to my surprise, notice, that his coat is buttoned up more than usually. It even makes me think that it really might be hard for him to breathe as he is definitely not used to walking around like this.
I go ahead and start untangling the lace that holds his cloak. I feel soft fur brushing against my hand as I purposefully tinker with the clasp much longer than is really needed. Lucio is growing visibly impatient but seems to do his best not to hurry me. I, in turn, try to hold back my laughter.
Having delt with the cloak, I proceed to unbutton his jacket. The fabric is very delicate, and I again take my time to tease him instead of just dealing with it quickly.
Lucio loses what was left of his patience and opens his mouth with a frown of unsatisfaction.
“What’s taking you so long?”
I look up at him as if he was a child with which I had to reason.
“We wouldn’t want to damage your magnificent attire, would we?” I ask and airily brush my finger against his bare chest that is now partly exposed. “Better proceed carefully.”
He flushes again because of my touch and appears to be at a loss for words. In the end, he just swallows loudly and pretends he did not want to say anything in the first place.
I occupy myself with the buttons again, and this time he waits almost patiently until I finish torturing him. Every time I “accidentally” land my hand on his skin instead of the soft fabric, I feel his pulse quickening, and every time I am forced to bite on my lip to hold back my treacherous smile.
Once I am done, Lucio exhales with relief. I don’t know what he expects me to do next, but suddenly an idea flashes in my mind and I already know I just have to do it.
With his eyes half shut and mouth a little agape, he watches as I delicately lay my hands on his sides and stroke him. It looks like he wants to say something, but I don’t give him a chance as I begin to tickle him violently, running my fingers along the skin between his ribs.
Lucio struggles and kicks below me but cannot do anything to escape my attack. He breathes erratically and I hear his muffled giggling when he jerks up from the bed and presses his body against mine to give me no room for movements. I decide to spare him and hug him instead, wrapping my hands around his neck.
“Well, that didn’t help me at all!” he exclaims jokingly, hugging me back and burying his face near my collarbone. His gilded hand is stroking my back and it feels a bit ticklish because of how sharp the tips of his fingers are, but I decide not to complain as it is more pleasant than anything.
I nestle closer and start twirling a strand of his hair around my finger. He has calmed down and I can hear him breathing steadily against my chest.
“I wish we could sit like this forever,” he says quietly.
“And who told you we can’t?” I ask, and he looks up at me, astonished and puzzled. “Show me who said that and I’ll give them a nice thrashing!” I say and it makes him laugh again.
“Not if I do that first!” he exclaims and plops back onto the bed with me startled but still securely held in his arms.
“I’ll be there to watch then,” I say, resting my chin on my arms crossed on top of his chest.
“Of course, you will! Why else would I do that?” he asks with indignation. “You just watch me. Don’t watch anybody else, just me, okay?”
“Oh, I would never…”
