A Guide to Some of the Best Queer Asian Shows

The guide includes a show’s basic summary; main genres/tropes/themes and official streaming links (additional info on how to watch at the end of this post)! You can find some content warnings in the reply section of this post. Shows are listed by countries, numbered by the order I recommend watching in, not by rating. All shows have happy endings unless specified otherwise. The list will hopefully be updated regularly (last updated on 04/04/2024, 98 queer shows in total).

Most shows are about mlm, I specify with coloured notes those that are focused on wlw, polyamory, aromantism/asexuality, etc.

Jom, an architect overseeing the renovation of a rundown villa, continuously dreams of a man he's never met. When a twist of fate transports Jom to Chiang Mai in the 1920s, he assumes the role of a servant to the affluent young master Yai, the mysterious man from his dreams.

Thorn, a young basketball player follows his senior Fah to university as a result of the promise they’d made — to become national basketball champions. However, to his dismay, he finds that Fah has already given up on basketball. --- Aai has to work in pairs throughout the semester with San, 1 year footballer; in order to receive a scholarship to study in Japan, Ai must be willing to do everything to get an A grade. --- Track running requires the compatibility of the team members to be very high. Vee, who became the new racquet 4, has to speed up training to fit in with the team as quickly as possible, especially with Dome, spending extra time together to train. Is love actually a major obstacle on the path of being an athlete?

When his twin Black is viciously attacked and subsequently left hospitalised in unconsciousness, White is unable to endure the harm done to his brother in silence. He learns Black was a part of a gang of anti-capitalist freedom fighters, and it was one of them who betrayed him. White disguises himself as Black to discover which one of them betrayed him and put him in a coma.

Ongsa moves to a new school and meets Sun, a cute popular girl who she immediately falls for. However, she decides to approach Sun in instagram dms under the pseudonym Earth, leading Sun to believe she's talking to a guy. But Ongsa does not want to lose the opportunity to talk to Sun, so she decides to keep the fact that she is a girl a secret and continue talking as Earth.

1. Cherry Magic! mind reading; secret crush; office setting

By still being a vіrgin at 30, Adachi gains a magical power – the ability to read other people's minds by touching them. At first, he’s overwhelmed by his new ability, and it’s not proving to be helpful to him. Salaryman Yutaka finds it difficult to share meals with other people. However, his life starts to change when one day, his cooking attracts the attention of a young boy named Tane and his older brother Minoru. The two brothers are impressed by Yutaka's cooking skill and invite him to their house to cook together. Yutaka's dreary life begins to change, and soon he finds himself looking forward to the meals he shares with the Ueda siblings together, as well as developing a taste for romantic feelings.

Nomoto loves to cook, but tends to make too much food and has no one to share it with. Luckily for her, turns out her neighbor Kasuga has a big enough appetite for the both of them.

5. Takara-kun to Amagi-kun high school setting; relationship exploration

Takara is a good-looking popular guy in class, while Amagi is a simple but bright and pure fellow classmate. The two begin to date in secret after Amagi's blurted out confession.

Most chinese shows are adapted from explicitly queer novels, the shows are undeniably and obviously queer, but nevertheless the queer romance part is censured. The only exception is number 4 on the list, it is not censored.

1. The Untamed period drama; fantasy

An epic fantasy led by a problem child who comes back from the dead 16 years later in order to fix the broken world he left behind — and finally unite with his soulmate.

The leader of assassin organisation Zhou Zishu quits his position in pursuit of freedom with drastic measures. In his travels, he meets Wen Kexing, the leader of Ghost Valley who wants nothing but revenge. 4. Stay With Me enemies to lovers; high school setting; unconventional families; slow burn

Su Yu is a high school student who lives with his single poor father. Su Yu gets a new classmate Wu Bi. The two clash right from the start, and after getting off on the wrong foot, their explosive relationship takes a turn.

5. The Spirealm inside of a video game; mystery; fantasy; horror-ish; hopeful ending

A game designer Lin Qiushi is transported inside of a game he recently played, and now he must go through 12 horrifying survivor game doors to survive in the real world. Inside his first door he meets Ruan Nanzhu, a mysterious man who offers him to team up.

Sometimes i think about the person who made the "You are so loved" sign. They wanted to let the band know what they mean to us all. And the way they phrased it, not the simple 'We love you', but 'You are so loved'. It's not much at a first glance, but adds so much flavour, you know.

And then i think how Vessel uno reversed it at the audience. Or how he (probably) made an entire fucking show to play the monologue about the "You saved me" message he got too. Saying he hasn't suffered as much as we did. Always deflecting.

So sometimes I'm. Thinking how it's such a fitting thing to do for someone who decided to call himself a vessel. Who states that the people behind the music are not important. And i get emotional in a whole different way.

Another Victim?

It's fascinating how quickly some people have condoned Phaya's bursts of anger, yet Dr. Chalothon's special brand of fuckery isn't being held to the same standard as Phaya's violence, and I. Love. It.

Chalothon has chosen to fight these men without using physical violence because it makes his opponents look crazy and causes the audience to immediately judge the act of violence rather than the cause of it.

And here we are, after Chalothon said he'd rather see Tharn dead than yield to Phaya watching him repeat the same comments some people have made in their observations of Phaya's behavior.

But Chalothon is talking about Art here, not Phaya.

Yet this is the second time that Chalothon has linked symptoms from someone who is considered a risk to society with Phaya's behavior.

Which is unprofessional but also untrue considering none of the people he is speaking about were dangerous to society. The first suspects were targeting men who had gotten away with sexual assault, and both incidents that involved Art were accidents AFTER the other person assaulted him.

While.

The.

Police.

Watched.

The investigation team was there to protect the guests, yet Art being attacked wasn't a cause of concern. Maybe they thought this was another performance piece, but they only acted AFTER the blood started to show on a woman. And they only held Art down.

Because men aren't victims.

And the grandma, who stands in for society, voices this again and again. She dismissed Phaya's dreams as stress induced, and stated that people are simply losing their minds without any real reason. Much like Art's actions are being labeled as crazy without acknowledging he was assaulted. Much like Phaya bursts of anger are being examined without contributing them to Chalothon's heinous comment.

I truly believe Chalothon is directly causing ALL of these men to behave as they are and not just by his comments but through supernatural means.

Blame it on Pit Babe, but the second Chalothon put his hand on Art, it wasn't surprising that nobody stepped in to help Art even though he was crying loudly. Chalothon harmed Art. Chalothon caused Art harmed.

And they all just watched.

In the first case, the crimes were livestreamed. Art's crime turned into a performance piece, but Chalothon's touch isn't the act of violence these men connect with harm. They doubt this causes pain because this isn't an aggressive touch. Much like the the previous case, Phaya is the biggest doubter.

And this is why Chalothon is fighting Phaya in this very specific way.

Chalothon is setting up Phaya so he can publicly demonstrate that Phaya is crazy.

Because Phaya sees a distinct line between himself and the suspects of these cases, yet he has a lot more in common with them than he thinks.

They are all Chalothon's victims!

And Chalothon is making sure no one will believe him.

Before / After colouring 🎨

I got tagged such an embarassingly long time ago that I don't remember who it was. Anyways, thank you so much to whomever lovely it was, I really appreciate the tag and finally found time to do a post about my colouring.

I started gifing less than a year ago and learned a lot since then. I gif online in Photopea as Photoshop is just to expensive for me atm (and my old laptop probably wouldn't survive running Photoshop). So, if anyone wants a detailed process of gifing in Photopea, jhmu.

Bed Friend | King and Uea I love how King's desire for Uea is shown in this gif. He is just gone on Uea and barely can hold himself back.

The Eclipse | Akk and Ayan Loved the sun shining from behind Akk's head and had to colour the gif in a way that the sun would stand out a bit.

A Boss And A Babe | Gun and Cher Them and their adoration for each other made me love this show.

The Eighth Sense | Jae Won and Ji Hyun The story of Jae Won and Ji Hyun was the first of a few series that I call "The Right One", i.e. series that just capture me and leave an impact ✨

Naughty Babe | Yi and Lian My favourite ghostship. Also the colours in this scene were just too good to not gif.

Never Let Me Go | Palm and Nueng Just Palm having his big entrance 🤩

Bake Me Please | Shin and Peach This kiss was sooo cute and lovely.

Moonlight Chicken | Alan, Wen and Jim MLC was everything, especially this scene.

Be Mine Superstar | Mingmueang and Namning Aka how to seduce a doctor. I'm excited that we get a new series with Bosston and Jo.

Kiseki: Dear To Me | Bai Zong Yi and Fan Ze Rui A couple and a show that left me speachless. Their story was so just so good.

Wedding Plan | Sailom and Namnuea Loved their story and how insatable they were.

Laws Of Attraction | Tinn and Charn Forever one of my favourite couples and series ✨

My Ride | Mork and Tawan Had the most fun doing a rewatch of this series.

Playboyy | Teena and Zouey The way this show combines gorgeous cinematic shots with that storyline makes me feel like I'm watching a stage show. I love it.

The Sign | Phaya and Tharn Every week this show leaves me spechless it's that good. One of the shows that I call "The Right One"!
