Text
i basically just stole this ask from @gunsatthaphan, partially because i’ve been wanting to make a post about it and after almost 3 years watching bls, i might as well. right? right. anyways.
Compilation of Bad Kisses in BLs (Part 1)
mind you, this is only for the ones i’ve seen. if i put every single bad kiss out there, this post would go on forever.
i strongly believe a kiss, whether is good or bad, can make or break a show and in my personal opinion, a lot of them fell off simply because of the fishy kisses. they are truly hard to watch, so much so that you have to look away because they are ugly and this is something we CAN and SHOULD blame both the actors and the company. sometimes, workshops are not enough.
i also believe that these actors shouldn’t play dumb. like, they HAVE to know there’s gonna be a kiss at some point. put in the work, pls.
LET’S GET IT
1. My Engineer (MekBoss)
Tumblr media
at the time, i didn’t think it was that bad. i just thought they needed some work, a little bit of help because clearly it wasn’t that good either. now, i just see two walls kissing and we might not see these walls kissing ever again.
2. YYY (NottPun)
Tumblr media
imagine watching this mess of a show, they promise you a kiss, and once you’re sure you’re gonna get it, they literally bring the sun out, block the view and that’s how the season ends. but honestly? the little i can see it’s still awful.
3. YYY 2 (NottPun)
Tumblr media
well... there it is. no words.
4. 2gether (SarawaTine)
Tumblr media
maturing is accepting the fact that 2gether had two straight bros playing these characters and that’s how they kissed and then the high five. it was a bad kiss, bestie. we were all just blinded by the pandemic and though this was high cinema.
5. SOTUS (ArthitKongpop)
Tumblr media
i’m not afraid of the girlies still caught up on this show. this was a bad first kiss and i’m ready to die on this hill. granted, this was 2016, the actors were still iffy on playing queer characters, they were calling each other wife and the obsession with pink milk was at its peak. gmmtv had $5 and a dream and you could tell.
6. ‘Cause you are my boy/My Tee (TeeMork)
Tumblr media
this was frankdrake’s first roles and you could tell. you could also tell that they were in the trenches because everything was bad with this show and i truly think it was a cry for help. they did the best they could with what they had but there was no way in hell they could save this show and honestly, i’m not surprised that their first kiss was like this. it goes well with the quality of the show.
7. Love By Chance (TinCan)
Tumblr media
and it doesn’t get better after this. i’m gonna be the devil’s advocate, mean actually tried to make these kisses better but there was no helping with this couple. a mess.
8. Oxygen (SoloGui)
Tumblr media
as far as first kisses go... yeah. granted, oxygen wasn’t really that good either but they could have salvage this show with a decent kiss. nothing. nada. it was a let down.
9. Make it right (FuseTee)
Tumblr media
make it right paved the way for angle kisses.
now listen, i’m pretty sure boom and peak were 17 or something when they filmed this and back in the day, this was already too much. like, cheewin was pushing it by directing this show. still, it has to be on this list (it’s not like it hasn’t changed anyways. boom and peak would never EVER kiss. this was the closest we could get).
10. Where your eyes linger
Tumblr media
i mean, come on. COME ON. i know this was like the first kbl and you know, they paved the way. give credit where credit is due and all that but LOOK. it’s bad. it was a good show, for the plot that it had and the limited time, it was good. BUT THE KISS WAS... it was a letdown.
11. Gen Y (MarkKit)
Tumblr media
how are you gonna be a senior in the industry and still kiss like this? kimcop are one of those settled ships that are hard to break and to ship with someone else. with that in mind, you would think they would do wonders. gen y was a dumpster fire and so were the kisses.
12. WISH YOU: Your melody in my heart
Tumblr media
this is where you start to understand that it’s not about the production or how short kbls are and that’s why the kisses are so bad. no, it’s because workshops apparently don’t exist in korea and they put these men to kiss without practicing first. this is the product. this is what you get.
13. Color Rush
Tumblr media
i know some of you call it the best kbl out there because the plot was different, which is true, but like... their lips are not even touching... so yeah. next.
14. Nobleman Ryu’s wedding
Tumblr media
i’m pretty sure this was supposed to be an angle kiss and they changed their mind at the last minute and we got... this. i mean, compared to others in this list is not that bad but is it good? far from it. this was also the first period kbl we got and it was kind of forgettable too. it was very low budget and you could see it with the kiss
15. What Zabb Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BOTH COUPLES because both of them were such a let down. i was here mainly because of the toxics from gen y and with the crazy tension they had going on, i thought they would go off. not even that. don’t even get me started on the main couple. the manipulation that went down between them UGH but i can’t even get a good kiss out of this mess anyways.

When did Viktor choreograph Stammi Vicino and did he commission the music?
There are some controversies regarding Viktor's free programme and I took the time to look at them in greater detail and pin them down to the likeliest explanation. (some of the things discussed in this post I've mentioned in a discussion I was involved in recently. The rest of this post builds on that.)
Disclaimer: Please note that this is an analysis of the source material. Popular headcanons that have no basis in canon cannot be part of this discussion. This is getting a bit academic. Please bear with me.
1. Did Viktor commission the music for Stammi Vicino?
In an interview, Mitsurou Kubo called the aria a piece of music that exists in the world of YOI, but when we subject the hints in the anime to a close examination, they contradict her statement, making you wonder which is true.
I mean, there’s this (sorry for the crappy screenshot)
Tumblr media
Technically, the YOI creators might just have used footage of this programme because there was no time to animate Viktor skating an entirely different routine, but due to the tight time constraints of 12 episodes that forced the creators to condense the plot to 50% of its initial size, every scene and every image demanded to be filled with meaning. Speaking of time constraints, they could have used a series of pictures that show adult Viktor in different costumes (like those that had been drawn for Yuuri's room), but they didn't do that either, which rules out technical reasons for this choice.
But there’s more.
From a storytelling perspective, it makes no sense to combine these lines with a short scene of Viktor skating Stammi Vicino if it doesn’t apply to this programme. It’s bad storytelling, period. As Viktor’s fan, Yuuri knows which songs Viktor commissioned because skaters love to talk about these things in interviews. Being a skater himself, Yuuri is knowledgeable in all kinds of music genres even if he lets his coach pick the songs for him. Skaters just happen to be exposed to a lot of music.
This scene makes it seem as if Viktor has been commissioning music for his programmes for several seasons at least. While this doesn’t rule out the possibility that he occasionally picked a song that already exists for whichever reason, Stammi Vicino applies to Viktor’s situation at the beginning of the show so neatly that the lyrics must have been tailored to him. The commentator’s words while Viktor is skating his FS furthermore suggest that this programme shows a new and personal side of him. Of course, that could also work for a song that already exists, but how likely is it that such a song 100% matches the vision of a perfectionist? That a genius like Viktor would just roll with that is debatable at least. He’d rather think “Okay, that’s nice. But this verse and that verse don’t match my idea at all. I think I'll call my composer and ask them to write a song for me.”
Stammi Vicino holds unambiguous references to Plato’s Symposium, which the YOI creators have mentioned repeatedly. And while this is neither an argument for or against the song already existing before Viktor even thought about a free programme for the season in question, it seems too coincidental from a storytelling perspective.
To me, all this points to Viktor commissioning Stammi Vicino because taken all facts together, it’s what makes the most sense.
Side note: It’s not entirely uncommon for storytellers to contradict their creation. Sometimes, you forget details, remember them wrong, or didn’t think them through. Or your views simply change. In the case of YOI, we have to factor in the possibility that certain details had to be de-homoed due to protests from parts of the Japanese fandom. The rings that were removed from many official arts that were released during the first year after the show had aired are such an example. In addition, interviews are often heavily edited.
2. When did Viktor choreograph Stammi Vicino?
The first time we see Viktor wearing the Stammi Vicino costume, is right at the beginning of episode 1 at the GPF. While there is no rule against wearing the same costume for different programmes and costumes are expensive, you usually don’t see this in real figure skating. Some figure skaters even get a new costume for the same programme mid-season because matches the purpose better.
The music, the composition and choreography, and costume build the concept of a figure skating programme. The more perfectionist a skater is (and many top skaters actually are), the more specific you can bet they are about the concept. Viktor is a perfectionist who has full authority over his programmes and he can afford having several costumes per programme. Wearing the same costume for several programmes is a breach with his characterisation.
Let’s assume for one moment that Viktor did indeed create Stammi Vicino because of his encounter with Yuuri at the GPF in Sochi. Why would the creators have been so sloppy and put him into the same costume which he wears at Worlds when they even designed costumes the other two GPF winners JJ and Chris?
Tumblr media
Does he wear the same costume because he met Yuuri there? Well, Yuuri approached him at the banquet at the end of the competition and only because he was drunk. Before, Yuuri was to awkward to even talk to Viktor and was, in all likelihood, too busy not freaking out, dealing with having bombed his performance, and Vicchan's death. To reflect Viktor's first actual meeting with Yuuri in a programme, thus choosing a costume that resembles the suit he wore that night would make way more sense.
Some skaters change their programme mid-season. Some switch back to an old programme, other skaters create an entirely new programme. Again, a skater like Viktor could afford this and is skilled enough to bend a new routine to his vision in time for the big competitions. (For reference: Russian Nationals are two weeks after the GPF, which leaves a skater competing in both events one week in between. That’s just enough to pitch the idea to his composer and commission a costume.)
Once Nationals are over and done, Viktor could start working on the new programme and show it at Europeans for the first time. That would leave him about one month to bring it to a level that will win him this competition. Yuuri would now have about two months to create a perfect copy. As he his busy graduating and preparing his move back to Japan, it’s debatable whether this is enough time. That’s the only reasonable timeline for such a scenario. However, since Viktor wore the costume before the banquet, this doesn’t seem likely and the show gives us no clear-cut clue why that could be and I’m loath to speculate wildly.
BUT: Viktor can't have created this programme after Sochi because Yuuri explains to Yuuko that he started practising the programme when the competitions ended [for him, the season itself is not yet over]. For Yuuri, the season ended at Japanese Nationals, which happen to be at the same weekend as Russian Nationals.
Long story short: Everything points to Viktor having created Stammi Vicino at the beginning of the season in which he wins his fifth GPF and world title, respectively. And there’s a beauty in this choice because it gives Viktor an agenda beyond his love interest. Well-crafted characters exist outside of their interactions and relationships with the other characters. Giving them things that belong to them alone adds more depth to their personality and turn them into individuals. Viktor had a life before Yuuri and this life was lonely and his (secret) longing for love was an inherent part of it (I’m preparing a follow-up post that examines the lyrics more closely, so forgive me for not going into the details here).
Especially in a show that is limited to 12 episodes and in which every image is filled with meaning, including details that hint at the characters’ past are beyond precious.
Thanks for reading! <3

Stats Time!
All right, are you ready for some data analysis? I'll give an overview in this post, and then I'll probably analyse the data per Fear over the next while if there's demand for it (This post is long enough already).
Global stats
So far, as of the polls currently finished (up to the Bigby Wolf poll when I started making this) there have been 331 characters polled from 247 different sources. The average percentage for each option (leaving out the see results option and the polls from before the other fears option) were:
Yes, willingly: 44.48%
Yes, by coercion: 9.67%
Yes, by unawareness or conditioning: 24.31%
No, they would decline/resist from the start: 8.03%
No, they would go along but stop before transformation: 4.41%
No, they would already be an avatar for another Fear: 9.10%
Tumblr media
I doubt people are submitting characters because they think they won't be an avatar, which I think accounts for how much more "Yes" votes there are in general, especially for "Yes, willingly".
For more heroic characters, if they are going to be an avatar it would make sense it would be by unawareness or conditioning. Some characters would probably have to get to the point that the alternative is death before they'd choose to become an avatar (though it's important to remember that anyone who becomes an avatar does have to make a choice).
Coercion and stopping before transformation are proportionally less used than other options. I suppose both are more unusual situations and less generally applicable for many characters, but it's possible that these options are just being underutilised. You guys will have to be the judges of that!
The Fears
Fear Submitted Avatars
The Buried: 7 3
The Corruption: 23 21
The Dark: 4 4
The Desolation: 32 31
The End: 27 26
The Extinction: 17 14
The Eye: 25 25
The Flesh: 13 13
The Hunt: 29 27
The Lonely: 31 27
The Slaughter: 30 28
The Spiral: 31 30
The Stranger: 21 19
The Vast: 10 9
The Web: 45 43
(Sorry about the funky table, Tumblr isn't really built for this)
The Web had by far the most submissions and avatars. I'd guess that this is probably due to the fact that villains are in general going to be more likely to want to become an avatar (few moral scruples, desire for power) and more likely to be Web aligned specifically (all that scheming). That, or Web aligned characters are just more popular!
The Dark was the least popular Fear with a grand total of only 4 submissions! I suppose it's a bit basic, maybe? Compared to the other Fears it's kind of hard to know what defines a Dark avatar in terms of personality. Still, I'm sure there's more out there! There are a couple of recent submissions in the inbox actually now that I think about it, but it'll take a while to get to those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were 25 characters who were deemed to not serve the Fear they were submitted for. Most Fears had 1 or 2 rejections, while Lonely and Buried had 4 each. No submitted characters rejected The Dark, Flesh or Eye though!
The Buried had by far the largest proportion (4/7) of characters rejecting it. I suppose that's pretty appropriate for a Fear that has "poor working conditions" as part of its domain. Like Dark, it also had quite few submissions. There's only a couple in the inbox at the moment too.
Tumblr media
Top Characters by Poll Option
To calculate this, I divided the number of votes for each option by the total, and found the character with the max percentage. I decided to separate the characters into low vote characters and high vote characters based on if they had over 50 voters who knew them, as there is more uncertainty with lower votes.
Most willing:
High Voted - Jareth the Goblin King from Labyrinth for The Spiral, 112/121 votes (93%)
Low Voted - Nikolai Gogol from Bungou Stray Dogs for The Spiral, 20/21 votes (95%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funny that they're both for The Spiral. The Twisting Deceit has some enthusiastic followers on it's hands!
Most likely to be coerced:
High Voted - Anthy Himemiya from Revolutionary Girl Utena for The Buried, 21/56 votes (38%)
Low Voted - Nathan Wallace from Repo! The Genetic Opera for The Hunt, 16/34 votes (47%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow, The Buried had to coerce one of it's 3 avatars? People really don't want to serve that Fear in particular. Interesting to note that even with the most coerced characters that option was still under 50% of the votes! It's definitely not being used as much.
Most unaware:
High Voted - Siffrin from In Stars and Time for The Lonely, 74/113 votes (66%)
Low Voted - Nelson Tethers from Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent for The Eye, 9/13 (69%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uh, oops. I still haven't reblogged Siffrin's poll, have I? Sorry In Stars and Time fans (Mostly because I want to get around to playing that game, but I've already spoiled several major plot points for myself, so that's hardly an excuse). Anyway, these are most likely to stumble into a Fear, and not realise they are transforming until they get to the point of it being an avatarhood or death choice.
Most resistant:
High Voted - Murderbot from The Murderbot Diaries for The Stranger, 52/83 votes (63%)
Low Voted - Captain Hawkeye Pierce from M*A*S*H for The Slaughter, 25/49 votes (51%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funny, these two are both associated with being asked to be violent and resisting. Congrats to them for being able to fight off a Fear outright.
Most likely to stop before transformation:
High Voted - Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender for The Hunt, 77/188 votes (41%)
Low Voted - The Traveler from Chants of Sennaar from The Lonely, 7/34 votes (21%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one seems to be even less utilised than the Coercion option proportionally. Zuko is a pretty good example of a character that people thought would fit this scenario, while The Traveller had more votes for decline and unawareness than stopping before transformation.
Most likely to serve another Fear:
High Voted - Jevil from Deltarune for The Buried, 43/74 votes (58%)
Low Voted - Sarah from The Shaperaverse for The Web, 11/30 votes (37%)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting. For Jevil there was quite a clear consensus that the alternative Fear he would serve is The Spiral, but Sarah was voted a Web avatar and there was no clear consensus on what other Fear she would serve instead. She's nearly a rival for Monika in the number suggested. Most of the characters with a high number of votes for this option must be in the High Voted category.
Most unknown:
High Voted - Five Pebbles from Rain World for The Corruption, 41/52 (ratio of 0.79 for voters who did not vs did know this character)
Low Voted - Hijiri Kanna from Puella Magi Kazumi Magica: The Innocent Malice for The Extinction, 28/5 (ratio of 5.6 for voters who did not vs did know this character)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Five Pebbles is a character who has been polled twice, and somehow less people knew him in the second poll! That poll also got less votes, putting it in the Low Voted category, which is why this poll is being featured here. This goes to show that the characters more people knew tend to have more votes on the poll, which is not surprising. The most unknown character is Hijiri Kanna! Not super surprising for a character it was very difficult to find a decent picture of. I'm a fan of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and I had no idea this spinoff existed.
Conclusion
Well, that's all for now! Hope you found that interesting, I know I certainly did. I think it would be interesting to dig into the data Fear by Fear, so let me know if you'd be interested in that! If you have any questions fell free to ask. The spreadsheet is in the pinned post, so you can dig into the data yourself if you want.

Make Use Of Me (chapter 1, preview)
Dec. 7 EDIT: ONCE MORE, WITH BRAVERY THIS TIME. No more chickening out. You can read this thing FOR REAL now. Sorry for being weird, and now....sorry if this wasn't worth it. XD
O-OK...here goes....
First thing's first: I am not expecting a lotta people to read this. I'm not asking people to read this. At this point, I'm making this mostly as a passion project, and if anyone enjoys it, it'll be a really cool bonus. My writing style isn't gonna be for everyone, and the characters I write aren't the most....popular characters in the CRK X Reader community, and I imagine this isn't really something a lotta fans'll be demanding more of.
This is LONG. This one chapter is 56 pages long. I am a VERY wordy writer,
So......why'm I posting this preview? Well....partially as an interest gauge for people who WOULD wanna read it, but...mostly as a motivator. As something to remind myself of whenever I get lazy. After all....I can't quit after I made the first chapter public, right? By doing that, I put myself out there...And, hey, I even tagged it, so, if by the off chance, someone did read it, I'm basically promising them more eventually.....
But, again, I'm not forcing anyone to read this.
Not only is it long, but.....This first chapter is probably my least-favorite thing I've ever written. By posting this chapter by itself, I'm testing to see if it does its job of making people wanna read the rest, cuz....right now, I'm not so sure how well it succeeds at that.....
This is the boring part of the story. It's a bunch of setup, and me jumping through hoop after hoop after hoop to just get everything started. I know setup is important and all, but....I'm already a very wordy writer, so....oof....There is some interesting stuff that happens, but it takes a while to get there.
I-I....kinda hate it, actually. The only reason I didn't scrap it is that I didn't realize I hated it until I was about halfway through it and the "good part" hadn't started yet. And I still spent a month writing the thing, so....I finished it.
I'm tagging this...as an experiment. If you wanna read this, go ahead. W-well, read my tags first, THEN go ahead. XD
All I can really say in this chapter's defense is that....I do try my best to salvage it. It's just setup, but I TRIED to make it interesting. And everything that seems like it didn't go anywhere, will later. This isn't the whole story, it's just the beginning of what's gonna be a BIG story. Anything that seems weird in this chapter, gets explored in the other chapters. This does set up a bunch of stuff that becomes important later (The friend character shows up later, the Colosseum becomes relevant later). This chapter is boring, but I tried not to make any of it pointless.
For the future: I'm aiming for five chapters. Chapters 2 and 3 will be a series of smaller vignettes that take place over the course of a few years, chapter 4 will be the climax, and chapter 5 will be something of an epilogue. After that, there will be two endings to choose from (which will make sense when we get there).
This probably won't be my favorite thing I've ever written, but it will be the most ambitious thing I've ever, and probably will ever, write. I haven't written something like this before, and it's all to flesh out this story and make it believable.
Right now, I.....I want to finish this. I'll probably still be writing this in February at the rate I'm going, but...at this point, I've put too much into it to give up on it. However, I'm STILL not completely ruling out the idea of my motivation dying before then. It COULD happen. So, what I'm planning to do is...setting a short-term goal of finishing chapter 3. After I do that, I'll post the first three chapters on AO3 together, and work on the rest. That way, even if I don't finish it, I'll at least have it over half done, and chapter 3 will end on a somewhat high note.
So, yyyyeah....Not a lotta people will read this preview. Overly wordy writing style + boring setup part of story + 56 pages long + assumed lack of interest for X Readers of this character (At least, I haven't SEEN many simps for her, m-maybe I'm wrong, I might be, I-I haven't checked any tags cuz I've been nervous, b-but it doesn't make my writing any better. In that case, this is my first time writing her so I'm trying super hard to do her justice >//////<)
I-if you wanna read this, and see if this first chapter does a good job of making you wanna read the better chapters, then...Go ahead.....
Some notes:
-This is still not the final draft. It's finalized enough for me to share, but I'm still not considering it finished. Even tho I'm working on chapter 3 right now, I STILL go back and edit this, even very recently. So, chances are, even if the story is finalized, small details and sentences are still subject to change. I know for a fact that there are still SOME placeholder bits in here that will change after I get some stuff cleared up. Recently, I even considered chopping off an entire section to make it shorter. I decided not to, but hey, it could still happen. I don't wanna waste anyone's time. The first chapter of a story, even if it's boring, is still very important, and I wanna make sure it's the best version of itself.
(A-and yes, this means that I've finished chapter 2 as well. The reason I'm not sharing it is that, unlike chapter 1, it was finished VERY recently, so I might still need to give myself time to edit it. From what I have, tho, I do like it a LOT more than chapter 1. There are some parts of chapter 2 that I'm legit proud of.)
-Even tho this first chapter is completely clean, I-I should mention that....this fic is for adults. The full version, at least. Chapters 3 and 4 are gonna contain some light N/S/F/W moments (the "fade to black" variety, so nothing explicit) and there'll be other slightly racey comments here and there. Just a heads-up. I'm gonna be uncomfy with minors reading this.
Th-that's all? I-I think that's all.......O-OK, so......h-here goes..... E-enjoy....

Expressions + Mannerisms (part 2)
By semi-popular demand, another analysis of Solas and his expressions :)
For all you fanfiction writers and solavellans!
I would like to state, for the record, a lot of what I say/have said is purely my own personal interpretations and understandings, and by no means should you take my word as gospel here. This is just some fun :)
I stated in a previous post (I shall call 'Part 1' for simplicity) how Solas has 2 expressions; his 'in the moment' expressions, in which his true feelings are on display, and his 'in character' expressions, in which he's very much putting on a persona.
If you're in solavellan hell, have some hyperfixation-tendencies and/or unresolved feelings towards a specific fictional character (like myself), you'll probably be able to tell the difference between these 2 expressive states of his.
Allow me to elaborate ;)
Solas, In the Moment "when he's honest/caught off-guard/not 'in character'"
Solas clearly has trouble with lying; he's rather terrible at it. I would go so far as to say he only ever lies to you once in the entire game (lying outright, I mean); and it is after the Winter Palace;
"You miss court intrigue... When were you at court?"
"Oh. Well, never... Directly, of course." <- big stuttering liar.
He can't lie worth a damn, but he's by no means honest; he's manipulative, deceptive and sly. I believe I heard someone describe him once as having a 'malicious compliance with/towards the truth'.
I believe his expressions, as well as mannerisms, follow this mentality.
I'll show you several images/scenes in which I believe Solas is being honest/showing himself without his guard up. (And in 2. Solas, In Character, I will show you the contrast).
This one will be hard to show without gifs (which I'm clueless on how to create, forgive me);
A. He blinks a lot, very a-rhythmic.
B. He gets this look about him, and I don't know how to describe it, beyond "'scuse me?" (the long face gets longer, shrug)
Genuinely surprised:
Tumblr media
C. He looks very deep in thought/far away - and sad (this man needs some therapy) this is the face he makes when he knows no-one can see him (I'll make a part 3 going into these comparatives of 'you can see me'/'you can't see me');
No ones looking, it's okay (it's not, but whatever) face :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
D. He just looks sad when he's being quiet/honest/not putting on some bravado/persona. (You know how 'resting bitch face' is a thing? This man has a resting depressed face, and i think it has to do with the tragedy - he practically embodies philosophical pessimism)
Acceptance/I don't see a way forward/I need a break face:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
E. He has the softest look about him when he's touched/shown affection (yes these are all from the dream-kiss scene) (bless my poor solavellan heart)
Yes, I like to be held, please kiss me on my face face:
Tumblr media
F. Smug face... He has a smug face (to be fair, this is literally him revealing he has complete control over when you're awake/asleep... and much more, given the context of Tevinter Nights - idk this face always creeped me out actually XD like i knoooow this guy could fuck me up if he wanted)
"It's my world, you're all just living in it" face:
Tumblr media
G. He fidgets a lot when it's just him, or he's talking to you honestly. Like he always has to be doing something with his hands. (I noticed he doesn't do it when he's in groups, or with others) - not a facial expression but I thought it was interesting behaviour. In fact, his movements in general increase a lot - he fidgeted, he sways, he wobbles, he gestures, moves his head a lot. (Just watch all of his personal quest, you'll see what I mean). (He also does this when you first meet him, but I chalk it up to he's just super excited that you're not dead and finally you can fix his mess - since he was 100% sure you'd be dead and he was ready to bolt with his 'i didn't say it was a good plan' plan)
Tumblr media
At the risk of just listing typically behaviour in people with certain emotions, I'll move on to his 'in character' part.
2. Solas, In Character.
A. He blinks rhythmically, every like... 5/6 seconds?? (yeah, I know... I do have a hobby besides this stuff i swear XD i just like this egg). It's soothing, like a heartbeat. The blinking just always stood out to me with his character, idk.
B. He smiles a lot, but I can't tell if I know who he is and what he's doing, and that's clouding my vision, but it feels very much like a job interview kind of smile. Like, every split second it falters just a bit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This man just doesn't want to smile (though, I suppose this is early in game when he's very much 'these aren't people' 'oh i have to pretend really hard rn'
C. He stands pretty damn still and stiff - if he's doing this i'm 99% sure he's being manipulative with you, sometimes the only movements he has in a scene is him blinking, perhaps glancing sideways. - think just before the journey to skyhold when he gives you a talk about the orb and how you need to prove yourself - he's in 110% manipulative mode
The trouble with Solas is, he doesn't have many tells - but the ones he does have are big. And, without delving into scenes as they stand, I'd have a hard time expressing this.
But I will leave you with my favourite expression-transition in the entire game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How he goes from optimism/pride when standing beside Inky, to when the figure passes him, his expression becomes so serious/foreboding. I love it so much.
And I once again want to mention how much I just adore the little details of animation, from eye movement, skin twitches, or full on bodily movement. - especially for a character I adore. It's beautiful to look at, especially as someone who studied animation (absolutely wasted degree on me, I swear) and gets very attached to fictional characters (particularly ones as complicated as the dread egg).
Tumblr media
In future parts, provided I get flycam to work on my pc - I'll be able to go through scenes of the egg to give him a bit more of an in-depth view (with gifs and whatnot, can you imagine?).

the history of rafole, part one
or: every story starts somewhere.
by popular demand (read: three-ish people and my own insufferable brain) we are now Doing This. so without much further ado, i present to you the very first rafole history post.
and of course where better to start than where it all started? their first match against each other, the french open quarterfinal in 2006.
Tumblr media
(continued under the cut.)
some context: rafa was, for the first time ever, the defending french open champion, and the world #2 behind roger. novak was world #63 and all of 19 years old. rafa had just turned 20 a few days prior.
(internal monologue: oh my god they were kids)
this was the year we got rafa's little roland garros blog-diary-thing, and in it he says this about the upcoming match:
Tumblr media
and this is what novak said in his pre-match press conference:
Tumblr media
(spoiler alert: he doesn't. but we'll get to that.)
thanks to a lovely anon who pointed me to the @rafolearchive account, i found out that novak wrote 'vamos nole' on his shoes for that match, to mimic the 'vamos rafa' on the back of rafa's.
Tumblr media
with his history of impersonations, it's probably quite a tongue-in-cheek thing from novak, but i find it hopelessly endearing. maybe that says something about me, i don't know.
anyway, we might as well get onto the actual match.
youtube
(warning, the highlights are in 2006 video quality. so, awful.)
some cinematic shots:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this was during the start of rafa's era of utter dominance on clay, and also during the start of the era of constant match retirements from nole. so although it was a pretty good match, seeing the scoreline end up like this ―
Tumblr media
― with rafa winning the first two sets to continue his 58 match clay winning streak, and novak retiring citing a lower back injury, shouldn't be much of a surprise.
(that flag, by the way, is of serbia and montenegro, a union which disintegrated the very month this match was played. but this is rafole history, not balkan history, so i'll just note that at the time, novak was still considering switching to british nationality, and move on.)
what is a surprise, and honestly more than a bit ridiculous, is what novak said in the post-match press conference.
youtube
i definitely suggest watching that video, just for the nuance of rafa's reaction ― he found it just as funny as i do. here's the most important part:
Tumblr media
yeah, of course he isn't. it would only take, oh, 6 years for novak to beat him on clay and 9 for it to be at roland garros. delusional much today, nole?
Tumblr media
rafa literally had to ask for a spanish translation to make sure he was hearing that right haha. he takes it with humour, though, and i'll close this section out by saying that their net hug was really sweet, as always during the early years.
Tumblr media
this was their only match that year. since then they've played each other at least once every year, with 59 matches in total and a whole lot of history in between for us to cover.
that history starts here.
love-all, begin.
[end part one.]
part two

😤 — what do you dislike the most about being part of the rpc?
Munday asks || Accepting !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Picking one thing over all the shit I can't stand about the RPC is really hard. I could write a novel about all the unnecessarily stupid and bad behaviours that are so very popular in it, and that gives the idea of the amount of things I have to say on the topic. Also, what makes it difficult to choose just one thing over the others is how connected all said behaviours tend to be, to the point that each of them can be born out of another and vice versa.
You're all lucky that I'm knackered, so I don't physically have the energy to go on a full rant, so...I'll pick one aspect that, at least for how I see it, might as well be the base of all the others, in a way or another.
The one thing that gets the most on my nerves, in more than one way, is how self-centred the members of the RPC have become. Ofc, we're here to handle our blogs, get interactions for them, share our ideas, and so on. However this has become so extreme that a lot of people have forgotten how RP is supposed to be a two-way street, how it's not just about you, but it's about your RP partners too.
Asking for attention is fair, we all like to see our ideas acknowledged and all that. It's also a great potential chance to develop them more, if you get feedback or get to discuss them with others. However, you can just keep demanding attention and time and energy from people without ever giving a crumble back. That's not how it works. Not in collaborative hobbies, not in real life. You had to do your part, you can't just sit on your ass and expect others to give you everything you want without asking for some interest towards them in return. It's not a bad thing, it's not a do-ut-des. It's how collaboration works, people. Especially when it takes 2 minutes to read a post and 2 seconds to like it.
I honestly find this kind of behaviour incredibly disheartening. It kills my motivation to reach out to people, to be curious about their ideas and muse, when I know that I'll never be anything more than a number in their followers list and a chance to go all "I, me, myself, my muses, my ideas". Not to mention that it gets old so, so fast. I'm too old for that shit.
I could talk about how people act without ever thinking about hurting the ones around them, because they forget that there's a person behind that screen and that other writers are not fanfics machines for your fantasies, but...I don't want to get too close to a few personal experiences I had this year and that made me really mad. Still do. So, I'll just end it with one, simple rule that would make everything better in the RPC if everyone followed it.
Don't be a self-centred, tactless asshole 🙃

hello I don't understand, like homophobia and racism, etc. in the twst fandom? :00 Did a problem happens? I'm not aware ;-; or I didn't realize it idk, could you tell me what happened, maybe you know something because the truth is that until now I haven't seen anything that rare :'v
[Referencing this post!]
I'm not 100% sure if that Anon was referring to specific incidents, but these things do occur (especially the larger the fandom). You're just statistically more likely to encounter "rotten apples" if the pool of fans is larger to begin with.
I'll do my best to list some examples that happened through the years, though again I don't know for certain what events the Anon was referencing.
In the initial ask, the Anon refers to this hatred being directed at their favorite TWST content creators. I'm sad to say this, but I've witnessed far too much of it, both personally and directed toward my peers. The most common and far-reaching example I can think of is that some fans push the concept of "female Yuu" rather than accepting that any Yuu is possible, which inflames fans that don't identify as female. A lot of fan content also caters to females over fans elsewhere on the gender spectrum. This has led to a lot of feelings of alienation and feeling like the fandom doesn't accept anyone that doesn't conform to the majority. In one extreme case, an artist was told that a TWST character would never love their OC because that OC 1) was a guy too and 2) had dark skin. However, when non-female identifying fans defended themselves, some took this to be “discriminating against female OCs/fans”, which only further heightened tensions.
There's been plenty of harassment too 💦 mostly over ships (ah… ship wars, a staple in fandoms 😔). Some fans get overly possessive of their favorites and go around telling others they aren't "allowed" to like those characters or to ship their OC with that character. There are also some popular TWST ships that are immensely popular, and simply saying that you don't care for it gets you marked as a "hater" and relentlessly harassed. (This, unfortunately, happened to various mutuals and friends of mine.)
Another issue that happens a lot is accusations of plagiarism or copying just due to how popular OC culture is in the TWST fandom. A lot of times, fans will create characters “twisted” from Disney inspirations, which leads to a lot of overlap in powers, personalities, and backstories. However, I don’t think everyone realizes this and tends to point fingers at each other. Genuine plagiarism does happen, but people are just way too quick to jump the gun about it.
On the subject of OCs, sometimes there is a heated situation because someone makes an OC from a culture they don’t understand or don’t make an effort to understand. Thus, the culture is watered down or used for just the aesthetic. This, quite understandably, offends people from the culture that is being misrepresented.
Lastly 💦 this isn’t something I like to talk about often, but as I mentioned before, I, too, have been harassed. It was over something very minor too (saying that I don’t like a particular character). This led to about a year of anonymous asks demanding if I “liked [character] now” or “what do you think of [character] now” every time new content was released, as well as sometimes up to 6 long asks a DAY (from the same individual) defending that boy. They would gaslight my understanding of the game and its characters, talk down to me and other people and characters’ intelligence, and claim I didn’t “understand” him yet because if I did then I would actually like him. Every time I blocked the harassment, they would return on alts or pretend to be new people “discovering” my blog for the first time before continuing the asks. It really took a toll on my mental health and it’s a part of the reason why I am more hesitant to do creative writing for the public or to entertain certain asks these days.
I hope those were sufficient enough to give you an idea of what the original Anon was talking about. As I said in the original post, it’s best to find a group of friends to enjoy this content with. The fandom on a larger scale is so much scarier 😔 We’re all here in the fandom to just have have fun and enjoy cute boys and a magic-filled world, so I wish we could all get along a bit more 😅

Murder Mystery Party (Part 2)
Hey everyone, this is a six part story. This entire story is now available on my blog. I'll post the parts here on Tumblr over the next few days. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2: The Game Begins
As the last rays of the setting sun gave way to the gentle glow of the apartment's ambient lighting, the friends settled around the living room, each holding their unopened envelope.
Toby, with a leader's instinct, was the first to break the silence. "Shall we begin?" he asked, his eyes glinting with a mix of curiosity and excitement.
One by one, they tore open their envelopes, revealing the characters they were to embody for the night. The reactions varied from surprised chuckles to raised eyebrows.
Toby unfolded his paper and read quietly for a moment. His face, usually the picture of confidence, now reflected a bemused perplexity. "A meek librarian, huh? This should be interesting," he muttered, almost to himself. The role was a far cry from his assertive, commanding nature.
Grace looked at her role, her eyes widening in mock horror. "A ruthless corporate lawyer? My, my, the tables have turned," she said, her voice tinged with amusement. The character was a stark contrast to her empathetic and artistic soul.
Sarah giggled as she read her character description. "A shallow socialite obsessed with appearances? Now that's a role I never thought I'd play," she said, the irony not lost on her given her usual disdain for mainstream popularity.
James, normally reserved and somewhat shy, looked at his card and let out a low whistle. "An alpha-male jock... Well, this is going to be a stretch," he said, his voice a mix of disbelief and intrigue. The role was the polar opposite of his tech-focused, introverted persona.
Leigha's expression was one of mock indignation as she read her role. "A loud-mouthed reality TV star? Really?" she exclaimed, her usual focus on style and image at odds with the character's brash and unrefined nature.
Mike, ever the practical and cautious one, chuckled softly. "And I'm an adventurous thrill-seeker. Talk about a change of pace," he remarked, the role appealing to a hidden part of him that yearned for excitement.
With their roles revealed, the friends began to discuss their characters, still in the comfort of their real selves. The conversation flowed effortlessly, filled with jokes and laughter.
Toby leaned forward, his demeanor still that of the confident businessman. "So, we have to solve a murder mystery as these characters? This will be a challenge," he said, a sparkle in his eye.
Grace nodded, her artistic mind already whirling with ideas. "I think the key is to really step into our characters. Let's have fun with it!"
Sarah, always ready for a new experience, clapped her hands excitedly. "I say we dive in headfirst. The more we embrace our roles, the better!"
James, though apprehensive, nodded in agreement. "It's all in good fun, right? Let's see where this takes us."
Leigha flipped her hair back, already getting into character. "Well, as a reality TV star, I guess I should be loud and demanding, right?" she said, her voice taking on a playful edge.
Mike, looking at his role card again, smiled. "And I'll be the one taking risks and seeking adventure. This is going to be interesting."
The game's instructions were simple yet intriguing. They were to act out a series of scenarios that would lead them closer to solving the mystery. Each scenario was designed to challenge them, not just in their deductive skills, but also in how well they could adopt their new personas.
As they began the first scenario, the atmosphere shifted. The room was no longer just Toby and Grace's living room; it was the setting of a mysterious, intriguing world where nothing was as it seemed. Toby, trying to shake off his natural assertiveness, started in a hesitant voice, quite unlike his usual confident tone. "So, uh, the game begins with a... a mysterious disappearance at an elite party," he read from the game instructions, his fingers fumbling with the pages.
Grace, her character card describing a cutthroat lawyer, interrupted sharply, a tone she rarely used. "Let's focus, everyone. The details are crucial. Toby, continue, please," she said, a bit surprised at the harshness in her own voice.
Sarah, holding her card of the shallow socialite, giggled nervously. "I guess this party was, like, super fancy. Like one of those I'd post about on Insta," she said, trying to sound vapid, though it felt awkward coming from her.
James, as the alpha-male jock, cleared his throat and attempted a more dominant tone. "Looks like there was some sort of scuffle at the party. Typical of those high-society types, always showing off their muscles," he said, his voice lacking its usual softness, but not quite convincing yet.
Leigha, embodying the loud-mouthed reality TV star, jumped in with exaggerated gusto. "Oh, I bet it was a catfight! Probably over some hot guy or a designer dress!" she exclaimed, her usual refined demeanor taking a backseat.
Mike, ever the voice of practicality, couldn't help but let a little of his new adventurous spirit show. "Perhaps we should scrutinize the guest list for motives," he mused, his voice steadier than his earlier jest about living on the edge suggested. "But then again, where's the fun in that? Why not follow a hunch and see where it leads?" His eyes shone with a mixture of his natural caution and his character's daring, a captivating combination that added depth to his participation.
Toby, on the other hand, seemed almost lost without his usual air of control. He fumbled with his clue cards, a stark contrast to the assertive businessman they all knew. "I suppose we could... well, maybe the answer lies in the... um, the sequence of events?" His suggestion hung in the air, tentative and unsure, prompting a glance from Grace.
Grace, who had once been the heart of empathy, now regarded Toby with a cool, analytical gaze. "Sequence? Toby, darling, it's about the motive, not the timeline. You have to think more cutthroat," she chided, her voice laced with an unfamiliar frostiness.
Sarah, previously the soul of the group with her friendly and quirky nature, now flipped her hair with a haughty gesture, her artisanal warmth fading into a cooler, more aloof demeanor. "Seriously, who cares about motives and timelines? Did you see the atrocious outfit the victim was found in? Now, that's a crime!" Her laugh was different, tinged with a note of condescension that was alien to her usual self.
The group paused, each taking in the strange yet intriguing dynamic that had taken hold. Leigha chimed in, her own transformation into a brash reality TV star evident in her bold posture and the way she commanded the room's attention. "Guys, you're all missing the point. It's not just about the who or the why; it's about the drama! The scandal! That's what the people want," she declared, her hand flippantly dismissing the previous comments.
James, trying to fit into his jock persona, added with a forced bravado, "Yeah, and who was the strongest guy there. That's what matters, right?"
Leigha laughed loudly, her character overtaking her usual poise. "This is so much fun! I never get to be this outrageous," she said, her voice louder than necessary.
Mike, reading from the game instructions, added with a twinkle in his eye, "And the plot thickens. Apparently, there's a secret passage in the mansion. Sounds like an adventure waiting to happen."
The friends continued, each fluctuating between their real selves and their characters. The initial discomfort was slowly giving way to a more relaxed engagement with their roles. Laughter and playful banter filled the room as they navigated the murder mystery, their characters beginning to take on a life of their own.

The #1 rule of the TV industry: push for it.
If you want Dacre on Jimmy Fallon, push for it. Make polls, tweet the official accounts, trend hashtags, don't stop after a day or two, keep pushing. The more hype and reach you give something the more prospective the money and potentially the less harder the marketing departments have to work to promo the actual event if it happens because the active engagement is already there.
Its not too late. With S5 approaching its actually the perfect time to get past season actors back up and discussing previous seasons. Even Dacre; who by industry standards is now completely disconnected from the series in terms of potential monetization, marketing and promotion.
Utilize established companies like Buzzfeed, too. They have the heavy hauling fans don't in terms of connections, outreach and money. I cannot stress this enough; manipulating companies into picking up engagement or spurning other companies into hostile action is an industry tactic that works incredibly well.
(By hostility it means if X company sees their major competitor Y company is gunning for an interview with a celebrity, they'll jump in with their own bid and incentive to try to get the interview ahead of Y company or instead of Y company. Similar to hostile takeovers and manoeuvres in law.)
Fan polls are good market research indicators for companies, brands and labels. You're essentially doing their job for them. Its incentive for them to evaluate the profitability in terms of both income, reputation and longevity for an action. Same with trending hashtags; they're an indicator of popularity and active engagement, which is what they look for when evaluating the worth of an interview/panel/appearance/deal.
Don't forget to indicate the sort of things that would be most attractive for your engagement. E.g; "I'd love to see Dacre react to the new season." "I'd love to see Dacre on SNL as Steve Harrington." "I'd totally watch it if Jimmy Fallon interviewed Dacre Montgomery."
And so forth.
It also helps Dacre himself too outside of wanting him in interviews because it means he's more likely to be picked up for future roles, endorsements and partnerships. We've seen it happen with Millie Bobby Brown, Rege-Jean Page, ect. Their spike in popularity and engagement (what we call 'attraction and engagement rate') makes them desirable for business because people actively want to engage with and see these people, so it converts to profitability. Supply and demand, basically. The more you demand an actor, the more they're supplied.
Keep hashtags relatively short and simple. Ones that are easy to track but aren't easy to mistake for something else. #DacreonSNL is good. #MoreMontgomery is not. Because which Montgomery? Sean? Clift? #DacreReact2Season4 is good. #InterviewWithBilly is not. You want Dacre, not Billy, and there are a million Billy's in Hollywood.
Hey anon, I'll assume that what spurred this on was a few posts where, myself and others talked about the lack of press for Dacre.
You're not wrong about how the industry works. We've seen a few examples of shows getting renewed or picked up by a different studio, all because fans were loud. There's also the pretty popular case of Zack Snyder's Justice League. Yes, fans being loud can do quite a lot. There's no denying it. But, loud fans getting meaningful things to happen is not a common thing. (I'll get back to this.)
However what we were all referring to there, is the sentiment that the people behind the scenes were not doing their part.
I particularly cited two things:
1. No Emmy nomination for Dacre's performance in season 3.
Emmy nominations are like the Oscars. It's the people in the industry sucking up to the academy, campaigning for who they want nominated. The biggest example of sucking up to the Emmys being Netflix pushing for Emily in Paris not long ago. The fans have no say in here. This is entirely an industry thing we can't do anything about.
2. How the marketing of the show treated (didn't in this case) him.
This is referring to the campaign before the seasons air. Before any fan reaction has a meaningful sway. And I can't talk about this without mentioning Eddie. Even before the season dropped there was PR for him, and good PR at that. It was interviews and teases for the creators and Netflix's social media dangling Eddie in people's faces. And of course when the season dropped and the character became popular (like he was engineered to be), the marketing just ran with it. I'm talking Netflix obviously paying some generous sums of money to get all the metal bands to feature Eddie and talk about him.
Early marketing is so important. It can make or break things, sell something the wrong way and you can have big losses. The point I'm trying to make is, there's no love for Billy from the creators and the marketing, which sparks no love from a not insignificant amount of the fandom, there's a frankly scary amount of people who can't separate Billy from Dacre too. Just take a few minutes to see what people say on twitter, the place companies love to use as a thermometer for audience interest. So coming back to what I said before, loud fans can do a lot. But no matter how loud or how many, if the people in the industry don't want to, they won't. There are many hashtags from what fans want that never go anywhere. And that's far more common than the things they do go somewhere.
We never see this level of effort from the PR team, or the creators in regards to Dacre and Billy. He did press for season 2, but not nearly as much for season 3. The season he was more prominently featured, his role bigger and his acting absolutely stellar.
That's what we were upset about. Yeah, we love Dacre, but the ST team clearly doesn't care for him how they do his co-stars. I'm certainly not opposed to pushing for Dacre, he damn well deserves to be seen for his amazing work. But you can't put the onus solely on the fans.
The PR picks and chooses who to sell. Hell, they even pick and choose between the main cast. Some of the kids get way less press than others too. And it sways a big majority of the fans. Like it or not, us social media weirdos are still the minority. Some things don't trend on social media and are still viewership and box office successes. The industry is far more complex than just making something trend and getting what you want.
Not saying it's pointless, just that the problem goes deeper than that.

minimum interaction but also, i just expect more. and maybe that makes me a shitty person but is it so hard to hit reblog and share it with everyone else after i've put in such a huge chunk of my time to make it?? like if you can take the 2 extra minutes to reply and come into my ask box asking for another part, surely surely you can reblog it too ya know?//
yea kinda right, it make you sound like a shitty person. you’re getting engagement but it’s not the type you want and you’re complaining. like there are author that would kill to have just a couple likes or to have someone to drop in there inbox letting them know they like something enough to read more. can i understand why you would like reblogs, i guess. but it sounds like you’re only interested in having more people see your work as some type of popularity contest instead of just creating a core group thats going to be constant cheerleaders. that’s a huge turn off for me as a reader. i’ve got a couple of blogs that I have post notifications turned on because you can tell that that enjoy what they’re doing and even if they’re only getting any interaction it’s from the same people over and over. those are the blogs that I keep following even when they change hyper fixations. that’s how I got into F1.
i dont look at it at all as a popularity contest at all, and im sorry if it came across this way. and i do realize that the way i worded it came off really shitty but i just (1) didn't know how to properly get my feelings across and (2) i didn't wanna hold back bc i want to be as honest as i can be with the people who come onto my page. again i'd like to emphasize: i'm grateful. i know i dont deserve the amount of interactions i get on here. and i wasn't even complaining about all my fics bc i know that my stuff is either rly good or rly bad. i have my days. im mostly heated bc of an ongoing theme i notice on my blog of people going "pt 2 pt 2!!" but not interacting with the fic (and this has been over the course of my time in f1blr). like the part 2 comes off more as a demand than a "i love this so much pls do a part 2!" i dont know if that makes sense at all. this is also a very incorrect cry for help to figure out what im doing wrong in terms of interaction because i used to get so much-- and not even just reblogs but people coming into my inbox to chat n stuff. it's all kind of gone down and i just wanna know why.
i understand how this all looks and im probably digging myself into a hole but i mean. i said what i said and i'll own up to it.
and also, i have an amazing core group on here as it is. i do just worry that i am becoming repetitive and stuck in my ways and i guess im kind of looking for reassurance that i'm not.

AYE!!! Haven't posted on Tumblr in a long while!
Hey, so, I got school tomorrow, so I'm gonna keep this short: more often than not I'm very puzzled about the origins of transformers as a species. Almost every continuity has its own background for them, and that's cool! It's really interesting seeing so many different interpretations of these space robots! ^^
However, for the sake of my own personal cannon, my Transformers "fan continuity" if you will, I decided that I give my own twist to the origins of the cybertronian species, combining many aspects of various origin stories from various continuities into a single backstory.
I really just did this for me. I had no intention on sharing any of this. I'm just kinda proud of it and wanted to put it out there + I haven't posted anything storytelling-related in a LONG time, so I think this fits the criteria.
This thing isn't really finished finished, missing a few details here and there, and the story kind of just stops because I realized how late it was getting, so I'll probably like... label this as part 1 and make a part 2 down the line.
Uh... remember when I said I'd keep this short? ^^; sorry...
Here is:
The Origin Story of the Cybertronian Race
As told by Yors Truly
Story under the cut
It all started with the Quintessons...
Everything starts with the Quintessons...
Back on the planet Quintessa, the alien species were growing into their peak at a certain period. Unable to keep up the demands on their own, they decided that creating robots to do their work for them (or at least as a tool to help them) would be a fine idea. They would give the robots sentience to provide them the ability to learn, grow, and possibly adapt to different jobs, if the time demanded for a role switch.
These robotic beings were dubbed as "transformers," possessing the ability to change from their bipedal base into an alternative mode that would prove to be useful to the Quintessons, have it be a vehicle, a tool, or whatever have you. Upon the transformers' creation, the idea of their alt-modes dictating their jobs – better known as "functionalism" - was forced upon them. For the most part, the transformers were fine with this. Their sentience was only so advanced early on.
Their consciousness seemed to level up after the question "how will these transformers be massed produced?" was asked among the Quintessons. A Quintesson scientist seemed to have an answer to this, and created a machine that would lead the processes. The scientist called the machine "Primus," mainly due to pride in believing this was the one and only true solution to creating mass production, but also because it was the only computer of its kind, creating a completely different lifeform as its core purpose. With the invention of Primus came the idea of "sparks," the souls of the transformers that would be the source of their energy.
The machine's function replicated the pattern of Earth's water cycle: Primus would generate sparks within itself and release them into the atmosphere - creating hazy blue clouds when the sparks were bunched together, giving the sky clouds of blue light that was especially beautiful at night – before falling in a random location on Quintessa to incubate and grow within the ground. In a normal scenario, the sparks would leak living metal out of themselves once they were ready to take the transformer form, creating a body for themselves. However, once knowledge expanded about the sparks and the invention of transformers, Quintessons would farm sparks once they landed and bring them back to their locations to place them in pre-constructed bodies, forcing the sparks to mold into a desired shape.
The premise of pre-constructed bodies for sparks grew popular among the Quintessons, but not so much with the transformers. The ones victim to being forced into bodies not created by themselves felt limited and unhappy, even having trouble fitting into their assigned figures; the transformers who were lucky enough to grow their own bodies successfully weren't happy with how others like them were feeling terrible about the things being placed on them without choice. If there was one thing that the transformers utilized their ability to learn for, it was to learn to resent the Quintessons.
So, as a final resort, the transformers found ways to escape the planet Quintessa, either utilizing their alt-modes or stealing space ships owned by the Quintessons. Many groups took themselves and a handful of sparks with them, hoping to find a new planet that they could inhabit and live the ways they wanted to; a new planet they could make their own.
Along the way, the majority of the traveling transformers came across what seemed to be the perfect planet for them: Cybertron. It's metal-like geology gave the sparks a much higher chance of successful forging, and the overall aesthetic of the planet seemed to be the perfect fit for them. Although the masses gravitated towards Cybertron, other transformers came across and inhabited many other planets: Caminus and Junkion, which they weren't very, if ever, in-touch with; Combatron, which had the smallest population by far; Nebulous, with the transformers there being welcomed and taken care of by Nebulons; and Velocitron, whose transformers population got caught very off-task by the vast and open land matching their desire to just have fun with it all. The transformers who decided to make Cybertron their home proudly adopted the name "cybertronian" for their species.
Of course, the Quintessons were very upset about the escape the transformers had made, and decided to go hunt their robots down and bring them back to Quintessa. The first place they visited just had to be Cybertron, home of the masses. While trying to actually grab and take home the cybertronians, the Quintessons noticed that the robots weren't going to go down without a fight, massively resisting the quintessons' attempts... and winning. It wasn't too many trip back to and from Cybertron that the quintessons realized that they were gonna have to apply even more force on their creations... they started bringing weapons.
Taken aback by the violent attempt of the quintessons, the cybertronians' last collective thought was to hold back. They found this planet, and they were gonna keep it.
"They bring weapons...
We declare war..."
Hence, the Battle for Cybertron began.
End of Part 1

Demat!
For the month of April, I am undertaking a special project to "solidify" Kroashent while I continue to work on the novel and the art. For the month, I will be making a special focus on developing and sharing the "Bestiary" of Alvez, showcasing the flora and fauna of the world of Kroashent. I hope to shift the focus each month with looking into characters, magic systems and geography, among others.
A lot of people have asked about the creatures of Alvez, and I always feel like my explanations are rather long-winded, daunting infodumps. It seemed like a great place to start to make my work a little more engaging.
Those familiar with my other work may be familiar with "Marie's Bestiary", a similar themed project sharing this information with in-universe commentary by the wandering troubadour. For this project, I'll be following a similar pattern, sharing the WorldAnvil Wiki pages. While I eventually hope to illustrate each of these entries, but for now, I'll be posting the entries themselves.
As always, feedback and inquiries are very helpful! I am always looking for ways to improve and flesh out my setting and stories and love enthusiastic engagement! I put a ton of work into these and hope you enjoy them!
--------------
By popular demand, moving into some celtic vampire lore, with the Baobhan Sith!
--------------
BTS: I've had a lot of people ask about Vampires in Kroashent. There are actually 2, but I'll get to those in a bit.
Vampires and hematophages (blood-drinkers), are exceedingly rare in Breton folklore and even in wider French culture. Sorry fans of the brooding French vampire, but France is solidly on team werewolf, mythologically speaking! I wasn't able to find any vampires or vapire adjacent beasties in my survey of Breton and French folklore. Even historic serial killers like Gilles de Rais and Nicolas Damont, their purported crimes embellished with supernatural additions, are usually accused of being werewolves long before they are vampires.
French Vampirism really took off with the publication of the influential 1819 novel, The Vampyre (part of the same contest that produced Mary Shelly's Frankenstein!), which spawned a popular Parisian play and numerous imitators.
But fear not, vampire fans! Where the continent is unhelpful, the Islands will provide!
The Baobhan Sith are a blood-drinking Scottsh Faerie that bear a lot of similarities with the popular image of vampires, ageless beauties entrancing travelers and draining them of their blood. They are not the living dead (we have to go to Ireland to get one of those!), but they do follow a lot of the same tropes. The Sidhe, the Fae of the Fortunate Isles, are inspired by the folklore of Ireland and the British Islands (for the most part), so the Baobhan Sith are fair game!
(I'll drop the Irish one soon. Very different take on the concept!)
