Ok now we're just taking the piss right? Right?

Once again this sort of thinking is removing a fundamental character arc that makes this story what it is. A big part of Aang's journey, especially in season 1, but tbh it does return in later seasons too, is accepting that he is the Avatar, and that he's the only one who can end this war. During the whole first season he is in complete denial about who he is and what he's supposed to do, which is why in most of this season there's no sense of urgency, and then once Aang gets faced with a very real, very close deadline he panics. This makes it even more brutal when in season 3, after accepting this responsibility, he gets faced with the reality of failure. He runs away again, this time not because he doesn't want responsibility, but because he knows how heavy his responsibility is and he doesn't want to burden anyone else with it. Removing the first aspect, aka running away and denying responsibility, it in turn also removes the heavy emotion from his later arc.

It keeps surprising me that people who claim to be such fans of the original seem to completely miss the point of most of this story? Like how could you look at Sokka learning about women's rights, Aang learning to accept responsibility, and Katara's motherly warmth which happened because how young she was when she had to step into a motherly role, and think "well we should remove that." You're taking out all of character development and going purely off of plot (which isn't gonna be nearly as good without the character development!)

Atla is probably one of the most analyzed and picked apart story, has one of the most long running loyal fanbases, people are STILL making thinkpieces about this show, and you manage to still misunderstand so much???

Okay, I am currently rewatching Helluva Boss, and I just finished S1 Ep7: OZZIE'S, and... How do some people genuinely believe Stolitz is one-sided?

From what I've seen, Blitzø absolutely returns Stolas' feelings, even if he refuses to acknowledge/accept that he does. A lot of people, from what I've seen, have been using Blitzø' words to Stolas in OZZIE'S and his words about Stolas to Fizzarolli in OOPS as arguments for why Blitzø "clearly" doesn't love Stolas back, but my question is, do some of y'all not have basic media literacy?

Sorry if that’s rude, but seriously. There are plenty of clues to how Blitzø is actually feeling during and after these scenes.

1. Blitzø was literally holding back TEARS as he said that in the van scene.

2. He says that Stolas has made it very clear that all it is is Stolas wanting to be fucked. That wording is very distinct and, honestly, says that Blitzø does NOT want it to just be a Fuck Buddies things.

2.5. May I remind everyone that Stolas literally calls Blitzø his "Impish little plaything" in Truth Seekers? And that that likely just confirmed the insecurities we know he was already feeling? (We know he was feeling insecure about his and Stolas' relationship already because of how he reacted in S1 Ep5 to Striker goading him)

3. Literally ALL of what happens after the van scene. Including all of Episode 8. He goes home and cries himself to sleep, and then goes and self-destructs at a party. Bee said it herself that he wasn't drinking to have fun.

4. In S2 Ep6: OOPS, His face when he said it was nothing more than Stolas being horny gives away how hurt he actually is. He is desperately trying to convince Fizz and remind himself that Stolas doesn't want anything more.

Honorary mention that I'm not sure is really a fifth point is him calling Fizz and Ozzie hypocrites.

Moving on from those scenes and onto Blitzø's insecurities about love and his self-worth issues. Blitzø does not believe he deserves love. He does not believe anyone does or can love him. We can see this in how he acts with the people in his life. He pushes them away. He is obsessed with M&M's relationship because they're the only model of a healthy relationship he's ever had, and he wants that with someone. We also can tell because of how he reacts to what Fizz and Verosika say in OZZIE'S.

Blitzø hates himself. He crosses out his face in the pictures hung up in his apartment. He blames himself for an accident that caused his mother's death, his best friend to lose his limbs, and his sister to hate him.

No one was truly there for him after the accident. Fizz may have been crippled, but he had a support system. Blitzø did not, and no one was there to tell him it wasn't his fault.

Not to mention the fact that up until the accident, he was CONSTANTLY being put down and told Fizzarolli was better than him. Even his own father cared more for Fizz than him. Honestly, I'm surprised there isn't any actual animosity towards Fizz on Blitzø's part.

Speaking of the fire and Fizz, Blitzø was planning to confess romantic feelings to Fizz that night before the accident (We know this because of the letter and flower he was holding before the fire started). That likely made it difficult for him to confess his love to someone because if you think his brain wouldn't connect love confessions to the greatest trauma of his life, you're dead wrong.

Brains make weird ass connections when it comes to trauma/traumatic events.

In conclusion, Blitzø loves Stolas, Stolas loves Blitzø, and they both need to heal and get their shit together. Stolitz forever.

oh no i'm not a melvin anon, but i have been experiencing some byler doubt since david harbour said that thing back in november last year. so i guess i got kinda paranoid when i saw that pic and looked a bit too deep into it.

Yeah I understand! I think we’ve all been there before where doubt seems louder than normal. David’s comments definitely didn’t spark joy, and they came at a time where the fandom as a whole was in a dark place/in shambles/going through it, so that added to the general sense of negativity.

That chaos has mostly dissipated, and Byler tumblr is a place where confidence is expected and vocalizing doubt is frowned upon (or at least it goes against tag norms), so if you find yourself in a place of doubt, it can be isolating for sure. But it’s important to keep in mind that the actors lie and tell half-truths all the time. They shouldn’t just be taken with a grain of salt. They should be taken with the whole Red Sea. Remember DH himself once said that Hopper was dead following the S3 fake-out, and look how that turned out.

What’s most important is to trust the show itself. The vast majority of Byler doubt cases have nothing to do with the narrative arc of the show or its characters, which overwhelmingly point in a pro-Byler direction. Sure, occasionally people get doubt because of the monologue or because of early-ST Mleven, but the vast majority of Byler doubt is caused by external factors such as what the actors say (or don’t say), the way the show is promoted on social media, feelings of negativity caused by the barrage of name-calling from toxic Twitter Mlevens and anti-Byler Redditors (delusional, fetishizer, sloppy seconds, etc), and just the general fear that Byler is too good to be true and that the show would never “go for it.”

But none of that is “real.” None of that should supersede all the careful analysis that has been done. None of that should challenge the media literacy we are simply applying. None of that should erase what your eyes see when watching the show, especially in S4, which is filled to the brim with Byler momentum and evidence. The show is the thing, and if something like the out-of-context brozone pic generates paranoia, it’s a sign of misplaced faith and energy.

Yall are complaining about pacing, characterization lacking, skipped development, insert some other reason, how "show went to shit after volume 3". Well, newsflash, look back at volume 1. REALLY look at it, without your nostalgia boner.

How, in what actually can fit into 3.5 full-length episodes, it skips a whole semester with only a few moments shown in like 3-8 minutes. Notice how Ruby and Pyrrha interacted like 2 times in 3 volumes total. Ruby and Penny? Yeah, they barely interacted too. Ren hasn't talked to rwby girls at all aside from ensemble scenes.

Too many characters in later volumes? Honey, 1-3 had SO many pointless grunts and you ate them up. The whole Vytal festival was filled with them.

Can you tell me the plot of volume 2 from the top of your head? Yeah, me neither. If i think maybe i can remember there was a mecha fight, a dance and a train, but beyond that what was the point of that entire volume again?

Your favorite, pedestalled, volume 3, most of which is fighty-fighty filler and the only stuff you actually remember when jizzing your pants about it is last 3 episodes.

Most character interactions and development happened after Beacon arc. Most actual plot and bigger story happened after it too. Yall are stuck circlejerking to *filler*, setup, which only purpose was to show the status quo to later destroy it and start to show the real picture.

Do you know why v4 and 5 feel so empty and missing something? Sure, juggling multiple plots gave it's pacing issues too, but it felt empty because there were no side characters to fill out the world and make it feel alive. V5 cast was so tiny it felt like nobody interacted at all. Because there were none of those "extras" yall hate on so much. The extras make the world feel real. Which is why Atlas feels alive when Mistral wasn't.

The most complaints about later volumes are chucked down to lack of media literacy and nuanced reading of situations and characters. Translated for your easier understanding: the writing was too nuanced for your "cute girls go fighty fighty brrr" brain to comprehend. Sometimes things require you to put the situation into character perspectives. Sometimes their decisions are made under stress + personality + influence of events and interactions. But i guess yall don't want to think, yall just want to watch "girl go brrr killy killy monster"

I can continue writing down all these other points, but i'm hungry and should get up so i won't. Bottom text: RWBY is a good show with good story and good writing and good characters. It has struggles and fumbles like every other piece of media. But for some reason, because it's indie, it's held to a much higher standard and everyone feels entitled to pick apart every detail of it to make themselves feel justified for feeling sad over their dead headcanons, even though they'd never do the same picking for big production popular series with much *much* worse writing than even the worst of RWBY's fumbles.

in defense of carter hall (hawkman) part 1

important post i'm making on carter hall because i didn't expect to like this insanely problematic mentally insane man as much as i do now. but after digging through interviews with geoff johns, i have a good picture on what he was achieving with carter.

let's start off with the circumstances surrounding carter's death. in the 90s, there was an event called zero hour. katar hol had merged with carter hall, shiera hall, and a hawk god. here is the death of shiera & carter's commentary:

katar ends up dying at the end of hawkman (1993) as he becomes mentally unstable due to the merge and he's forced into limbo. this leads into jsa (1999) where carter is revived.

now before i continue, here's geoff johns saying he intended for carter to come off as 'bipolar', while the meaning itself is questionable when used here, i think anyone with a brain could easily tell that carter was clearly supposed to come off as not being mentally well at all. even in hawkman (2002), kendra begs for carter to go back to 'normal' to which carter tells her 'this is normal'.

here's another panel that was written by geoff johns, where he compares himself to jean loring. if you know who jean loring is & what her mental conditions were (to the point where she got locked up in arkham asylum in a very bad storyline), you would understand why this is significant for carter. he's admitting that he too is not mentally well.

carter is revived and it's canon that he feels shiera's soul (obviously referring to kendra since she is a reincarnation of her).

it's this panel that particularly makes a lot of people angry. and why? because it's realistic. carter has just been revived from the dead after witnessing his wife, shiera, die in front of his eyes. kendra just found out about her being apart of the reincarnation cycle & her suicide attempt. kendra is YOUNG. it's even retconned now that she's actually been apart of the reincarnation since birth in the current hawkgirl run. meaning she won't be the same age as carter regardless BECAUSE shiera died and she's the one who's usually the same age as carter. she's not going to accept this, and he's clearly going delusional, which lets be serious.... you're lying if you're telling me you wouldn't do the same in his exact situation.

honestly, it's just really a bizarre panel to be mad at because at that point, you just want your comics to be fluffy watered down domestic fanfics with no real or interesting emotions. this takes place immediately after he's revived, so he clearly won't be well in this stage at all. it gets taken so out of context because people lack basic media literacy & look for the most problematic thing while ignoring the problematic moments their favs have too. and it's also one of my biggest cons with hawkman 2018 because while i love it lore wise.... he doesn't really have much personality.

anyways, here's kendra admitting that she does find carter attractive but she needs space. now again... the context is that kendra found out the true circumstances regarding her reincarnation of shiera. JUST found out. of course she'd want space which again, gets brushed over a lot. kendra doesn't know who she is. what she's feeling is normal. also carter's way older than her like lmao (now if i were to bring up problematic age gaps in comics, we'd be here all day so don't bother)

another thing to say is that the 'stalker' thing only happened in ONE issue. ONE comic issue. it wasn't an arc and wildcat was even encouraging him to 'chase' kendra. the only specific parts that were an 'arc' were carter seeing kendra kissing sandy and the aftermath of that which again... jealousy is a totally realistic emotion. but it's been taken so out of context due to the dcau making it way worse & completely erasing the actual context that you'd think him being a stalker would be the entire crux of his character or something. in this exact issue, carter says that what he's doing is WRONG and he needs to accept her for who she is.

. This “Druckman is a genocidal Zionist so I need to put a lil blurb on my written porn so everyone knows this porn is FOR GAZA” stuff is so out of hand.

Something that really particularly pisses me off regarding the general sentiment of "Tumblr is the neurodivergent website" is that so much of this userbase STILL treats the western animation/cartoon fandoms like they're anomalous for existing.

Like there's somehow this culture of "cringe culture is dead! Enjoy cute little things and plushes and nostalgia and heal your inner child ♡" combined with this general reaction to cartoon fandom existing being "lol why is this trending? Why do so many people like this? Are you 3? Watch Adult Media for once lol" and I'm not kidding - I've seen both goddamned sentiments being pushed by the same people!! Our existence in the wider tumblr fandom space is largely disregarded or erased because, for whatever reason, people outside of these fandoms seem to respect us so little that they're genuinely confused by the fact that we exist at all. That includes the selective amnesia about how "weird" it was that x animated movie or show had "such a big fandom" because the implication is that western animation doesn't have fandoms. Not "normally". (This implication ignoring every other prominent animated fandom at the time that anyone on this side of tumblr could pretty easily tell you about).

Max's letter and Max's speech can and do co-exist. She wanted to heal and grow with Billy, thought she could and imagined they'd become friends but before that she was in a very toxic and dangerous household where they were pinned against one another and she wished for him to disappear. She feels guilt for hoping he'd die when he was angry or acting out but then when he did die she realised that was far from what she wanted. People who completely disregard Max's letter because of her speech are ignoring her current feelings towards Billy. In the past she hated him, wanted him gone from her life but then they had a block of time where things were clearly getting better and then before it fully could Billy dies right infront of her and uses his last moment to apologise. During S4 Max has very conflicting feelings towards him but in the end she wants him back so they can heal and sort out whatever shit Neil pressed into them. S4 Max doesn't want Billy dead and saying she does is so removed from the canon its concerning because if you looked at a girl so distraught and guilt ridden she thought of suicide and took away that she was glad her brother had been tortured and killed before her very eyes I'm worried for not only how you view real abuse victims and victims of toxic households/upbringings but also your media literacy skills in general.

I find it very interesting that the Duffers wrote her speech which contradicts S3 completely. "I wasn't sure if you deserved to be saved" says the girl who spend all of S3 hoping he wasn't the host, crying over his dead body and telling him everything was going to be okay. Especially when they admitted to not rewatching their own show and not wanting to be restrained in where they want the show to go...so they ignored canon and hoped no one would notice which apparently people didn't.

Someone said Billy abused and traumatised Max, that he was a weight on her which when he died she was relieved of it but that just isn't true? Billy was a dick but S3 Max shows no signs of being scared or hateful of him and when he died she was riddled with grief and guilt. Max cared about Billy and by S4 she misses him, wishes he was alive and able to fix their relationship but he isn't and she can't deal with that to the point she self medicates, isolates and thinks about dying herself.

Max is not glad Billy is dead. She wishes he wasn't and thinks they would have become friends. That cannot be ignored.

i firmly believe that people who voted rosencrantz & guildenstern in the gay shakespeare tournament have either never read hamlet, have not read it in decades, have very bad media literacy, or are basing their memories of ros and guil's relationship entirely on when they read "rosencrantz & guildenstern are dead". girl you cannot tell me that ros and guil are somehow more queer than hamlet and horatio in the original play. ros and guil have very little screen time in the actual text of the play itself they have like zero basis for queerness at all. now don't get me wrong if we're looking at the play "rosencrantz & guildenstern are dead" there's definitely something there, or at least you could pretend that there's something there considering that ros and guil actually get to, y'know, interact with each other on-page in that play. but no matter how many "rosencrantz & guildenstern are gay" jokes you make while reading the original text of hamlet you cannot deny the fact that those two men are only on page together like 3 times during which they barely talk to each other and also iirc the queerest they get is when one of them (either ros or guil i honestly cannot remember) remarks on hamlet's queerness which would only support horatio / hamlet gayness not ros and guil gayness. feeling insane about this i just cannot believe people thought that ros and guil were more textually queer in the original hamlet than hamlet and horatio were. horatio was not out here "goodnight, sweet prince"ing as hamlet died in his arms for y'all to say ros and guil were inherently more queer.

To be frank, and maybe a bit rude, but if you read the Ravnica side-story and come away from that thinking Vraska is just straight up dead... I think you need to learn about like. Basic media literacy again. Because at the very LEAST something fishy happened there with her body. IMO, one of the NUMBER ONE RULES of interpreting ANYTHING is "If you don't see a body, it's all fair game". Combine that with the whole "Oh, Vraska is in her mind and we literally see the corrupted part of her vanish in the disappearance of the red text and Jace is there and then he does a THING"...

Like. We KNOW that Compleated Walkers can be saved now. We know it's possible for that to happen. Compleation is NOT death 100% of the time. IDK, it just... As a writer. Seeing people being pissed off about Jace and Vraska being dead, when their fates were not only left SO ambiguous and SO obviously left like that ON PURPOSE, when the text was SCREAMING at us "look something happened to Vraska's body! After that big white flash and that vision of Jace doing something!"...

All I can say is that if I wrote something and people misunderstood it so badly... Like yes sometimes the curtains are just blue but also sometimes the text flat out tells you that the body can't fucking be found because something HAPPENED TO IT.

So yesterday I saw someone wishing that Ada would take someone under her wing at some point and essentially have a sidekick for a while. At first I was like, no Ada works alone.

But after having slept on it... I kinda want that now? Like, maybe a game where you play as Ada as she's training someone to be like her or something during an outbreak (you could also play as the new person but I really want Ada to be the star of her own game).

Obviously I'd want them to be portrayed as platonically as possible, but I want to see how Ada interacts with different people. Maybe even to the point where Leon is only brought up in dialogue or something. Or shows up at the very end.

Alternatively, I would love to see her have to work with some of the other RE characters to see how her dynamic is with them.

What do you think of this and who (if anyone) would you like to see her teamed up with (willingly or unwillingly)?

I'm partially to seeing her around either one of the Redfields (with this whole thing taking place after re6). Could have a lot of interesting drama and maybe an eventual understanding of each other.

I think a general idea people had was actual jake. especially since re6 seemed to be setting up a few stories afterwards but since when re6 was released it was.. errr not as good as they were hoping.. that's why everything was kinda pushed to the side when they did re7.

i would've loved ada to work with someone. and i do hate how the hunk character was added for re6. it's actually unplayable sometimes because only ada can open doors etc.

i would love ada to have her own game. especially since she's more popular than one of the "main four" of resident evil characters in japan, you'd think they'd put more effort into giving her content. and before people get pissy, we've only had remakes. no new ada content.

i'm still salty over like plague doctor ada in the concept art for re8 village and then she was REMOVED FOR CONFLICTING SCENARIOS. i would've loved an interact with her and ethan where she's like "you just remind me of someone," :OOOOO

i'm not the hugest fan of chris. and i don't really like ada with claire either tbh. it doesn't make sense unless they were forced to work together which is fine, and conflict is fine but i just wouldn't really be interested for either of them. just cause ada was there lol

considering media literacy is dead, and people still think that ada "did things" to chris' team. it would be interesting to see her working with chris for sure, i just think that there are probably better stories to tell. and also i think chris has had enough.

Stranger Things Mini-Rants

1. I already posted this shit earlier but people are really acting dense, it isn't about "but my ship" it's about how the queer characters were treated in the narrative and outside it. (There is so much to say in just this, like it's actually baffling)

And people saying "it was the 80s and blah blah blah" making excuses for why the characters cant be ea little more clear about something got to clean their noses cause this is a supernatural show and you are drawing the line at a character coming out in an undeniable way (I've been seeing so many post that just 😐)

Just to clear it up, because you guys like to act brain dead, this isn't just about that specific scenario. I'm mad I even have to explain this but purposeful ignorance and lack of media literacy are shinning exponentially rn

2. Don't even get me started with how Lucas and Erica were treated as well because that's another can of worms that has me heated, like that was extremely unnecessary?! Like, not only just that but the way it's essentially just glossed over as well makes me livid

The treatment of both characters over the series and this season makes me so fucking angry, like the way Lucas had a fucking gun pointed at him and Erica was tackled and threatened to have her arm broken or how they are only talked about when attached to another character is so telling

The way they're are both treated within the story and out of it is infuriating and are two sides of the same coin

The response of the church to the passing of Rev. Copeland has been outrageous, confusing, and filled with both misinformation & bigotry.

I need the queer, trans, fanfic, dead dove, & any other affected community to see what's happening here:

They're saying his works of fiction are indications that he's a danger to the community.

They're saying that, because he wrote about a murder, using the name of a real woman, he must have secretly wanted to murder her.

I don't know how to explain to non-writers, "Fiction isn't reality. Copeland wasn't going to murder that woman, just like I'm NEVER going to be an military intelligence analyst in witness protection."

I wonder if they think reality TV is real.

Even worse, they're attacking those of us who brought stories of systemic child sexual abuse into the light, saying, "BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS GUY?? HOW CAN YOU DEFEND HIM?"

My friend @CoffeeYall said it best: "We will never ever deal with church abuse, when we view a queer adult man as having the same amount of evil, as a pastor who grooms and rapes underage girls."

The church fundamentally does not understand the difference between "sin," or violating their commandments, & "abuse," the act of harming another person, taking a person's agency away, controlling them, violating them, & destroying them. They view sin as a type of abuse against God, the church, & society, & seek to banish it.

They don't understand consent, which is why the fact that Rev. Copeland's wife had full knowledge & consent of their online life doesn't matter to them. When we became Evangelical, we were supposed to give ALL of our will & ambition & sense of self over to God.

They don't understand that people have a right to exist without their approval. They literally see themselves as a type of authority that should be on equal footing with the government.

Here's the laziest example of this type of thinking. It's an excerpt from James Dobson's book, "Marriage Under Fire," page one:

Does Dobson justify this claim in any way? Of course not. That would take work! Evangelicals like him just accept that their views should be taken as default. They don't understand that protecting the rights of people who disagree with them eventually protects their own rights as well.

You might ask, "Why then would Rev. Copeland stay in such an environment? He was only harming himself?"

Sadly, Rev. Copeland was 49 years old when he died. I turn 44 in a couple of weeks. I can tell you, as someone just five years younger than him, who also grew up in a rural community, that we didn't grow up with the internet, or strong technology literacy, or any diversity of media.

The only difference is, I was taken away when I was 16, & was exposed to a new world of ideas. If I'd stayed?

The most radical or diverse ideas I'd have seen would be at the solitary Catholic church in a 30 mile radius. Maybe I'd have been a crazy Apostolic or Methodist Lady Pastor!

People who discover truths about themselves late in life often face a very difficult choice:

Hide who you are for just a FEW more years, until you can comfortably retire.

Don't hide who you are, & lose everything you've spent the last 20-30 years building. Your community, your financial security, your dignity, & your life.

I know a pastor who successfully navigated 3 short years before retirement. I could tell when the topics & language of his sermons changed, that he was struggling. He's now living happily, about 2500 miles away.

I wish Rev. Copeland had been given that same chance.

If you were a Tumblr millennial, you should know that Gen Zer’s on tiktok during COVID quarantine didn't start any of this, millennials on Tumblr during the 2010s did. Gen Z puriteens exist because of “woke” millennials. My Brain: These being just a small and exceptionally violent selection of ideological conflicts within the past few centuries that managed to take place in spite of the complete nonexistence of social media.

My Brain: You are making the mistake of projecting your own childhood experiences from the relatively peaceful 1990s back arbitrarily far into history and extrapolating that, since we seem to be headed towards some sort of conflict now (during which time social media exists), whereas social media didn't exist (to the same extent) whilst you were growing up, therefore social media is to blame.

Me: Okay, fair enough, but if we care to go back a few centuries *before* the period about which you were speaking, an analogy can certainly be drawn between the disruptive impact had by the invention of the Internet and that had by the Printing Press. And you *can't* tell me that the printing press had no role in the Reformation, or the French Wars of Religion, or the Thirty Years War, or--

My Brain: Okay, but it wasn't the *sole* cause, was it? The Church, as an institution, had been growing progressively more corrupt for centuries, and a strain of proto-nationalism had been a feature of German public life since the conflict between the Empire and the Papacy in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Yes Martin Luther and his lot made use of the new technology that was available to them, but the printing press didn't *cause* the Reformation, even if it was an accelerant--it was a pretty much an inevitable result of a number of currents in Europe's material and ideological history that had been planted centuries earlier and were well beyond anyone's control.

My Brain: Likewise, the Internet didn't *cause* the 2008 financial crisis or the rise of the alt-right or any of that. It is, at best, an accelerant on the normal dynamics of capitalism. The economy broke under its own internal contradictions and much of the public, perceiving this, lost faith in the system and looked for alternatives. Some turned to socialism and some, guided by cynical capitalists looking to preserve their ill-gotten gains, turned towards reactionary ideologies. All of this happened just as it did in the 1930s (when there was no social media); and indeed, much as Marx predicted 70 years before that. The fact that social media happened to exist when the machine finally broke again is incidental to the plot.

My Brain: Annnnd I might also add that the printing press was no uniformly *bad* in its historical effects! Are you prepared to tell me that public literacy is bad? That the scientific revolution is bad? That the breakdown of ecclesiastical authority has, in the long run, been a bad thing?

My Brain: Likewise, are you prepared to suggest that undermining the hegemony of bourgeois traditional media institutions is necessarily a bad thing (even if significant numbers of people may seem to lack an ability to discern reality from fiction without a authoritative man behind a desk telling them which is which)? Or that casting the spotlight on issues that they have ignored--climate change; police brutality; the inherent problems of capitalism--is a bad thing? It wasn't "fake news" on social media that led the Americans blindly into the Iraq War; it was the fucking New York Times, amongst others! And what about new social movements that could not have organised without social media? It's not just a bunch of nazi yobs with bad haircuts, you know; **you yourself** would probably be dead right now if you social media hadn't connected you with others like you, you tranny bitch!

My Brain: Indeed, you could even make the case that social media may have slowed the outbreak of conflict compared to what might have happened if the economy had broken, say, in 1998 rather than 2008.

Me: ...I know. I know. And you're right that I'm generalising my own current anxieties into a comprehensive theory of history that bares no scrutiny whatsoever.
