Okay so the JJK Official Anime guide for season one is great but we NEED to talk about the brief interviews with the voice actors, specifically Maki's VA because:
"we'd totally be dating" oh she GETS IT. she sees the vision.
"Bring down the Zenin family. We'll fight together." yeah. yeah.

Things from S1 that are driving me insane Part One: The Flags
S1E4 00:13
So because I'm insane, I decided to translate these through INTERCO flag semaphore, giving the following sequence:
7 U T S 6 R Q P 5 O N M 4 L K J 3 I
(wikipedia)
Because it was one am when I randomly became obsessed with this, my first thought was of course some kind of code, so I spent like an hour and ran it through a bunch of different cyphers and things under the assumption that this was the obvious solution. Because hey, the flags could be decorative but why use the differently shaped number flags (which stand out and in my opinion mess with the aesthetic) unless it meant something?
I also ran the keyword cyphers using a bunch of good-omens-y words, to little success, and ran an anagram. My guys I found nothing. Until.
The incredible @indigovigilance helpfully pointed out, almost immediately after being shown, that this was simply a countdown. Which of course, in a show focused around the countdown to Armageddon, makes a lot of sense.
(7) U T S (6) R Q P (5) O N M (4) L K J (3) I
Edit: As happens with things written at three am, I have been corrected. I mistook the T and 3 flags (they're almost exactly the same, seems counterintuitive to the system tbh) and the countdown pattern is in fact complete. Still cool though! Still a countdown which is what counts!
Note: I am above all else an analyst, nerd, puzzle enthusiast, and academic. This is fun for me, but I don't much care for trying to work through theories and predictions myself. As such, any of my analysis work is free to use, dissect, reinterpret, and appropriate for other meta projects as long as I am appropriately credited<3
