and remember yt Americans & other decendants of coloniers
Jewish people, please correct me if i say something antisemtic /gen.
just cause you feel guilty about the acts of your ancestors inforcing conlonlinsm & imperialism in the name of yt supremacy, doesn't give you the right to project your guilt onto radom ass Jewish people.
correction - Jewish people isn't Israel: not all Jewish people have ties to the settler state. so it's very inaccuate to assume so, i made that assumsion, and i apologize.
Israelies aren't their government: just like Americans aren't their goverment, same goes with Israelis and Israel. The only people who are their government are government officals, because it's their fucking job to reperesents their government.
Stop assuming that your definton of Zionism is the true & sole defintion of the word: stop fucking white whashing & Americanizing the term. Zionism means different things to different Jewish people. from what i've gathered, only a very small percentage of Jewish people, if any at all, support the genocide of Palestinians.
hating Jewish people won't erase your yt guilt: i'm just gonna say, hating a marginalized group isn't gonna undo slavery, genocides of Indigenous people in turtle island, kidnapping of Africans, and other forms of western imperalism. hating a marginalized group isn't gonna unfuck BIPOC communities. hating a marginlized group isn't gonna earse the generational harm your ancestors did and what you're doing right now
stop co-opting Palenstine stuggles to be freely antisemtic: stop saying that you for oppressed people, while you oppress a group. if you're gonna be antisemetic, at least leave other groups out of it.
you can fucking support Palenstine without being anitsemtic. rember, your actestors also wish death on Jewish people not too long ago. so your death treaths aren't "progressive" it's similar, if not the same, reason that's gonna cause another Jewish genocide.
you can fucking critique Israel's government without being anitsemtic. no government is perfect. i know for a fact that all of y'all not represent your government, much less like them. shut the fuck up about things that don't affect you, cause that's the same shit that your government is doing right now. your compassion, empathy begins and end at your selfishness.

went to my rheumatologist and the first thing she said was 'so, are you standing with israel?'
i was confused because it seemed out of nowhere. it was the magen david. she said it nicely, but it was so jarring and out of nowhere that i felt... dangerous all day. like me existing with this necklace was harming others. about 1/3 of the community where i live is muslim, am i hurting them? i didn't realise this was a political statement now, i've been wearing it every day for 3 years and the only thing that's changed is world events that are out of my control. i pulled the pendant around to the back of my neck for the rest of the outing.
i thought after the appointment: i need something that could be construed as in support of palestine so i stop getting that kind of comment. even the scale a little bit, get them confused. clarify that i'm One Of The Good Ones. i shouldn't have to.
i just don't understand how me wearing a symbol of my religion makes people automatically assume things about my political beliefs. i mean, i do understand, i just strongly dislike it. what should me being jew-ish have to do with a conflict halfway across the world? i suppose i should just get used to it. feeling self conscious, feeling like i'm not worthy of wearing it yet while also knowing how potentially dangerous it could be.
like, this is the nicest possible way it could go, and it still felt awful. i know my rheumatologist, she's a nice person, she understood when i clarified that no, i'm not supporting israel, i'm just converting to judaism, everything went fine. but still.
i don't have an autoimmune disease, though, so that's something.

to my jewish friends, followers, and tumblr strangers: chag pesach sameach! i hope you have sorts of good things planned and your holiday is both insightful and full of yummy food :-)
to my non jewish friends, followers, and tumblr strangers: this is one of the most important holidays, and it's a good idea to take this time to reflect on how you're treating jews in the community. even if you are consciously against anti-semitism, you do probably have some internalised biases.
an important one of these to reflect on is snap judgments. i've noticed that in general, if gentiles see the word zionist, they automatically think "bad person, genocide supporter", but the problem is that zionism has quite a loose definition, and before you make a judgement, it's important to keep that in mind and work out their definition of zionism.
to you, zionism probably means settler colonialism, or christian evangelical zionism. to them, it might mean that they think there should be at least one place on earth where jews can exist free of persecution, or maybe that they think jews should be able to live in or make pilgrimage to their homeland of eretz yisrael. i have zionist friends who wholeheartedly agree with me about palestinian liberation, because they believe that jews should have a place where they know they are safe, and they also believe that palestinian people deserve to live free of bombing and exiling in the place their families have lived for centuries.
it's also important to note that if you only do this with jewish people, it's likely anti-semitism. if you see a post of a blorbo in which the poster has a magen david in their profile picture, i know a lot of gentiles will check the account before liking to make sure they're a "good jew". that is anti-semitic. if you don't do that with every single post on your dash, and make sure your politics align on completely unrelated posts, then you are targeting jewish people.
i am not saying you despise all jewish people or that you're a bad person. anti-semitism is rampant in culture and is so normalised and covert that nobody even sees it, and i'm just saying that it's important to assess if that has affected you.
palestine absolutely must be liberated, no one is free until all are free, and i am so beyond happy that you're vocal about the last few months of constant mass murder. the way to be vocal about that is not to attack random jews, that isn't palestinian activism, that's jewish hate.
am yisrael chai and free palestine can and do coexist.
be kind to your jewish friends and wish them a happy passover.

Announcement
I will no longer post on this blog, as it negatively affected my health.
I took a beak from Jewish Tumblr for a while and I have been educating myself for the past few months and realize:
A trigger of my OCD: I didn't realize it back then, but there are countless times I've been on a countless cycle of viewing/reading this genocide and (mentally) dragged into proving myself of my humanity and care of others though moral scrupulosity.
Although I/P is the genocide against Palestinian people, this doesn't excuse nor justify the global rise of antisemitism, anti Jewishness, and anti Israeli actions and beliefs; thiss doesn't justify the murders and harm done on those who are part of the MENA region.
I've been dreading this post, but I felt like I needed to update. My apologies if I say anything anti Israeli, antisemitic , anti Islamic, anti Muslim, or anti Arab.
I hope you all can understand why I (might) delete this blog in the future.

i just can't get over how surreal it is to be teaching the holocaust right now to my 4th grade classes who by and large are learning about this for the first time. (i have four jewish kids across three classes, they all have known for years.) for the non-jewish kids, even the ones who already knew a little bit did not know much until we started this unit. and just like every year i teach this, the question that comes up over and over again, the one that is SO triggering for me and so difficult to keep my teacher cool during, is "why didn't they just...?" and they are young, very privileged kids and they are asking it innocently and they ask it when we study slavery and they ask it when they study the trail of tears and they ask it when we study the dust bowl. why didn't the jews just take off their jackets that had the yellow stars on them. why didn't the dust bowl farmers just buy new houses in a different state and move. why didn't the enslaved people just say no. and worse is the kid i got today, the "well, if *I* were a jew during world war two, here's what *I* would have done."
and today i just got really serious with them and said, "i know that you do not mean it in a disrespectful way, but when you say that you could have done something differently that would have led to you surviving when so many others did not, it is offensive to the memory of the millions of people who were killed when they were doing everything they could to survive. i promise you that there is not a single strategy imaginable that was not tried by someone at some point. some of them worked and some people escaped, because they got lucky. other people did the exact same thing and were caught and killed. we also have the benefit today of knowing what was going to happen. they didn't have that. some people did not want to take actions that today we look back on as heroic because they did not want to break the law. they were law-abiding citizens, even when those laws discriminated against them. some people did take actions and escaped when it was still early enough to do so, and others at the time thought they were overreacting and that it wasn't that bad."
every single day i wonder if i'm the one is staying until it's too late to get out. every single day i look around and wonder if i'm only still here because i think others are overreacting. every single day i worry i'm not learning enough from the past.
