Something that bugs me a little is the insistence that Gohan actively hates to fight period. Bc that's not true!

(This ignores everything that happened outside the original manga/the DBZ anime)

Yes, he lacks Goku's or Vegeta's laser-focus on all things martial arts, but let's be real, all half Saiyans do. Goten & Trunks sure have more passion for fighting than Gohan does but they're much more "human" about it than their dads and have other interests in their lives too.

But while Gohan originally became a fighter out of necessity and had little choice in the matter there are instances when he clearly shows that he is totally capable of enjoying himself in a fight.

For once there's obviously his fight against Cell - once he snapped his "Saiyan side" took the lead and he was enjoying himself a little too much (and ruined it, like a good Saiyan must).

But it also becomes clear in the early Buu arc. Yeah, initially he's not rly interested in the tournament and wouldn't have participated if not for Videl forcing him.

But once he was in he was in. He even got a little annoyed by Videl interrupting his training, and he did want to win. If he really hated it so much he could have entered with the plan of failing the preliminaries, or losing in the first round. But the thought never crossed his mind. I think if you'd suggested he botches it deliberately to get out of it he'd been horrified.

He was going to have fun with it! I think his most "Saiyan" trait is that he's a bit of a showman lol. He likes to be flashy! And he likes to boast! He COULD have just used a plain costume and mask to hide hid identity but nope, Great Saiyaman it is! He likes being seen and being known as a crazy strong superhero. Maybe he'd have been into pro-wrestling with their fancy costumes and showmanship

Even before things went off the rails at the tournament and Buu arc was set in motion he was ready to go. And yes his crush on Videl might have served as motivation: "haha cool she won't be disappointed if someone beats her dad! (I can date her if I beat her dad)" -> he WOULD have thrown Satan out of the ring if he'd gotten to fight him, no questions asked.

And once he, Goku & Vegeta are in Babidi's spaceship it gets even clearer: now, no one is forcing him to fight. Ofc Gohan always wanted to fight when it was necessary, even at 5yo he wouldn't stay home, he made it very clear that he was going to Namek.

But while they were going through the levels in Babidi's ship this still wasn't a serious thing. Pui Pui and Yakon were a joke for them. Vegeta was getting pissed, ok, but aside from that it was just fun and games for them, and Gohan could easily have said "nah have at it you two, I'm sitting this one out" but never once did he so much as consider NOT taking part in rock-paper-scissoring it out to decide who gets to go first.

He was eager to fight Dabra! Dabra told them to take him on 3:1 and Gohan flat out told him "no way, this is MY fight!". And if Vegeta had interfered with that fight to end it quicker I'm 100% sure Gohan would have decked him in the face and told him to fuck off. (Maybe that would have cooled Geets' mood a little lol.)

The problem isn't that Gohan hates fighting from the bottom of his heart. He doesn't. The problem is he grew up with a dad who was 100% a fighter and a mum who was 100% into education, and he didn't find a balance. He didn't even know that might be an option! He thought he'd HAVE to choose one thing, and one alone, and so he chose education.

Who could have taught him otherwise? Maaaaybe Piccolo (post-reunification with Kami), but tbh I think he didn't want to give Gohan the feeling he had to fight. I think Piccolo feels a little bad for putting 4-5yo Gohan through the wringer so much.

Like idk. Let my boy be both. Let him have Goku's legacy as well as make his own!

(I've read about Dragon Ball Online a little and tbh Gohan writing a book on ki and making it widely known? Perfect. I love it. Best idea ever. Probably the best thing that happened to DB since the original manga and Z anime ended. I am accepting this as canon 100%.)

Based on your post last week (amazing essay btw) on reproductive choice and the ability to have choice in the matter, i'm interested in your take on if surviving careers would end up as parents

First off, thank you for the support on that essay of a post. I feel exceptionally passionate about reproductive literacy and power of choice to control your life and body. So thank you for your support there.

Secondly..this is an interesting question.

I think if you were to ask tribute in the academy, and then in the immediate years after the games, most would say yes. No brainer. Not necessarily because they'd be good at parenting, or want to raise kids, but because especially in 1 and 2 it's about glory and pride. think for them at first they'd be like "well we need to pass on the glory, continue the legacy of greatness." I often joke that if you pair up victors, but especially carers, you hit the genetic lottery in terms of the games. That's survival of the fittest, literal principles of genetic diversity and population health. So at least in training, and in the first few years, most would be like yeah. Obviously. We owe it to the future of the district to continue the line of champions, to carry on the glory.

However. Notably from what we hear in Mockingjay and Catching Fires very few victors have kids, and If i'm not mistaken we don't know of any careers who do. Only one victor in the quell is a parent, a woman from district 8 who is pulled off of her three children as she goes back into the games.

We could say it's because the careers don't have the affection or capability to parent. Theres no requirement in Panem though, to bc good parents.

I believe that even the careers, the best victors there were, learn quickly it is not worth it.

They are sex trafficked, and their families are threatened if they don't comply. Why would they add someone else to threaten?

We also know the relatives of Victors are reaped at a higher frequency than is statistically likely. Maybe, even knowing their own successes, they don't want to watch and possibly lose their own kids to this fate.

Finnick Odair ends up a parent, but even that decision is not until he's literally in a war. He would rather have a child in an active war zone than as a victor living in the lap of the capitol elite. That feels intentional on the part of Suzanne Collins. That being said, that could have been an accident, but one that was conveniently timed to not overlap with Finnick being abused.

What we see in CF and Mockingjay, even Cashmere, Gloss, Enobaria, and Brutus are not having a "yay more Hunger Games" moment. Cashmere is described with Johanna and Finnick as problem victors. Enobaria is noticeably excited to join hands in the act of defiance.

Even the careers are no longer disillusioned by the capitol and the life after the games.

I think in a world without the games, in a world post rebellion, if there had been any careers left they might have. There's no more glory raising a future victor, but like Katniss, they might have seen it as safe enough to have their own children. They wouldn't be a pawn to be exploited, or to be weaponized to get their parents to comply. They'd just be kids. Maybe for ex careers, that would have been good enough.

Top 10 Mankai Actors

Disclaimer: My onion lol. I think everyone has their own charm but if we’re going with just ‘acting’, I do think some are better than others in-game. I don’t think versatility as an actor is everything btw, but it is impressive to see people do very different roles and to do them well each time.

Warning: Spoilers for at least until act 8 for everyone since I did include the rookies in this list.

We will go 10-->1 Feel free to agree/disagree as long as you’re nice about it xoxo

I didn’t put a read-more just so that it’d be easier to read, but let me know if it’s pretty readable (dashboard or otherwise) with a read-more (and dw I tagged it as a long post)

Honorable mentions:

Muku!!!! Muku has gotten so much improvement + has one of the largest range of role types in the whole company. Also helps that he’s in the troupe that does the most adlibs so he’s quick to think of lines to sell to the audience (and they have to be funny!)

Juza is the most improved imo and he has the passion and the work ethic to back him up. He does his role type really well but hmm I’ll explain a bit more later why the others edge him out for me.

Chikage was originally higher but upon reflection, I think he doesn’t make it to my top 10. He’s good in the sense that he was trained to deceive people, but in terms of stage acting, putting his heart into it is a newer sort of thing. Also, between him and Taichi, he was the one who was more obviously up to no good. Then again, was he really hiding it? His default is being cagey and secretive in the first place while Taichi is very much the type of person to wear his heart at his sleeve, so Taichi definitely edges him out.

Side note: I wanted to say Citron bc I adore his Ennis but I’m also aware of /how/ biased I am towards Harugaoka in general. so.

Let’s go on!

10-8) Harugaoka Boys

I’m sorry for cheating but I can’t really rank them properly among the three of them.

Arguably, Masumi would be the weakest because even though he has the natural talent, he doesn’t have the same drive as the other two. HOWEVER, his drive in a way is Izumi and Izumi’s own love of theatre. He’s pretty determined whenever Izumi is involved and he has a pretty good range of roles, making him not only versatile, but just pretty good in general. SPOILERS!!! <I mean, he learned how to play a violin so quickly just for Izumi so he’s pretty efficient at learning in the first place.>

Next, Sakuya is a hard worker and has the passion to keep him going. I say he edges out Juza because while I think the formal training from college (+ all the workshops he goes too, either Yuzo or at school), Sakuya sort of breathes and lives everything theatre. Like not only the acting part, but all the behind the scenes things too. He watches and helps out different companies on the daily so I’d say he’s more exposed to a variety of performances than Juza would be. Let’s not go into Liber underutilizing Sakuya with the range of roles or even the number of lead roles (either main or co), but I’d say he’s just has overall more practice at play (pun unintended).

Banri, as we all know, is naturally good at this lol. He does say his weakness is that he can’t put his whole heart into is character unlike Juza (which is also a reason why I’d say that Sakuya and him are more or less the same level). He’s versatile and has a good repertoire + he does have the drive to keep getting better (he says to beat Juza but I think it’s also because he’s become motivated after seeing /everyone/’s portraits (but yes, Juza’s in particular was the hmm trigger I’d say). And since he’s newer to acting, I think everyone else on the list beats him due to experience.

7-5) Taichi, Hisoka, Misumi

I’m so sorry, but I couldn’t choose AGAIN. I think the next 3 have such different skill sets that put them up there. They originally did have a proper ranking but once I was writing it all out, I just couldn’t decide who was better overall. Not surprising since I’m more of a tierlist person than a straight up list person anyway. Hayz, anyway here we gooooo

Taichi Nanao

I guess I should be upfront with the fact that I’m a Taichi oshi so of course, I’m biased. HOWEVER, Taichi started acting as a child, way back in elementary. He works hard on his roles (as seen in plays where he’s been the lead/co-leads) kind of obsessively and SPOILERS!! <has trouble sleeping and overworks himself for them.>

He was also able to get into GodZa at a young age that even Tsumugi couldn’t get into right out of college (tho I have other theories on why there but anyway). Reni treated him like shit but the fact is, he was still able to pass the strict auditions. Anyway, he has the foundation, the training, and the drive (PLUS IF YOU’VE READ ACT 9, YOU GET IT), so I think he’s earned this spot xD

Hisoka Mikage

As mentioned with Chikage, they were sorta forced to learn how to act or it was do or die. Hisoka can pretty much get into roles quickly once he knows the information he needs about the character. I think it’s fair to speculate that Hisoka got a lot more of the dangerous undercover jobs? He seems more attuned to acting than Chikage plus there was the factor that he had to be good or else.

It’s hard to say if his overall life experience would put him ahead of the other two.

Misumi Ikaruga

Misumi grew up watching all of the plays that his grandfather showed him. You could say he’s one of the less subtle acting geeks in the company but he’s all focus and everything once he watches a performance. He has the talent and the foundation, albeit no formal training. He did have a scriptwriter grandfather though who could have more or less helped him hone his skill. Also another very varied actor.

Still as we see with Tenma in-game, where you act (TV vs movies vs stage vs just the general public) makes a big difference and he still has less experience with stage acting and acting in front of others than the other two).

4. Sakyo Furuichi

Sakyo didn’t really have a lot of formal training but he did have the drive and love for theatre since a young age. He watched Mankai rise and fall. I think he’s the most unique case out of everyone bc he has he experience but he couldn’t grow into his full potential because of all the other circumstances in his life. I think he rightfully belongs in the top 4 though. He’s also another case like Juza who does those certain roles very well.

3. Tenma Sumeragi

Gonna be upfront once again, Tenma is my 4th fave, just after Taichi. Still, you can’t deny he’s been acting since birth and has had the formal training to go with it. He has the drive and work ethic to get even better. What puts him behind the other two is just honestly more life experiences and stage acting experience in general.

2. Tsumugi Tsukioka

We know Tsumugi is very skilled. He’s great at the subtle movements and understanding the characters plus he’s just full-on in love with theatre. Also being less sheltered and older, I think he just has more to draw from life-experience wise. He is edged out by our #1 because of the years he took off acting.

1. Tasuku Takato

Tasuku was #1 in Godza, one of the most popular acting companies in their region. He was consistently #1 until he left and even though he had similar roles then, he greatly diversified when he got to Mankai. I mean, it’s Tasuku, the resident ultra theatre nerd. Of course, he had to be #1.

Since you were a child, you've always spent all your afternoons playing volleyball.

I mean you aka female version of Kageyama.

One day your mother took away your beloved volleyball for literally two hours cause you didn’t do the laundry.

You didn't talk to her for a WEEK lmao.

When you met Kuroo, someone as passionate about volleyball as you, it didn't take long for you to get together.

At the beginning they were just "combined workouts" between yours and his team, to train better against more powerful "enemies" in your case and more agiles one for him.

Then your simply “going outs” became strategic meetings cause you know,,, captains things,,, ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ

Finally, you came to the conclusion that denying the evidence had no sense and you started officially dating.

(Lev was the only one surprised poor baby oops.)

That's how you found your fan no°1 cause you can bet your ass that the S in Kuroo Tetsuro stands for Supportive Boyfriend.

although volleyball takes a fairly important position within your relationship, there is much more between you two.

In the end it's just one of the many things that you two share and it gives you the opportunity to pull out some sides of your characters, such as the strategic one in Kuroo.

One day you spent a whole afternoon trying to list all of Bokuto's possible weaknesses and you even tried to bribe Akaashi (failing of course).

Then during one of your games, in an attempt to save a ball, you landed badly on one knee, severely damaging it and this led you to say goodbye to your beloved sport.

You were devastated: volleyball was all you had, or so it seemed to you at first.

Obviously Kuroo, being the amazing boyfriend he is, immediately showed you how many other beautiful things you still had in your life, starting with your teammates who had not abandoned you.

You still had your parents who loved you endlessly AND your perfect boyfriend, more caring than ever.

Literally: you just unlocked third parent package.

If Kuroo used to worry cause you passed to much time in the gym trying to improve your serves, now he keeps texting you to know if you need a help even to get dressed.

He! started! making! you! lunch!

He came from daddy to grandpa in two seconds lmao.

Now you spend half of the time making fun of him with Yaku.

He’s also very likely to ask you to be his team’s manager at some point cause,, you know,, you're a little genius and he needs you bc his team shares literally three brain cells (and they're all Kenma's).

At the end of the day, he really loves you and would do anything to make you happy.

kyle for the character thing!!!!

Buckle up bc I’m extra af and love talking abt characters. Be aware this is like, entirely personal opinion and personal interpretation and also it’s almost 2am so LETS GO

1) sexuality hc: I’ve always really liked bi Kyle ahsjdkfk and tbh I’ve always found the idea of his attraction to other ppl really interesting

The way I characterize him is that he’s someone who’s like, typically very passive with his attraction. He’ll kind of glance at someone and think they’re attractive but he doesn’t necessarily have any strong feelings towards them or desire/drive to want to pursue anything with them. If he does want to pursue them it’s usually out of a sense of obligation or expectation—like a “well I might as well” or “this is what I’m supposed to do” kinda thing

Except Kyle DOES have exceptions—when he finds someone he feels passionately about, someone he’s emotionally and mentally invested in, it’s like 0-100 in terms of difference, bc suddenly he can’t stop thinking abt that person, how much he wants to be with them, etc. and a lot of that characterization, for me, falls in line w the specific ship I have for Kyle (which is obvious if you’ve followed me for a few but I’ll get Into That in the next section)

2) OTP: KYMAN by far my fave Kyle ship and one of my all time fave sp ships overall. I’ve always LOVED rivals/enemies to lovers ships that specifically have 1) characters who are equals 2) characters who are incredibly intimate and close w one another even if (or because of) it’s in the context of the rivalry 3) the characters have either some level of co-dependence or a need for the dynamic or one another in some way bc the relationship is fulfilling to them and bonus if 4) they’re the only ones that really understand each other

And I jus. Love that. Esp w kyman it’s so much fun taking that dynamic, the codependency and obsession, and just. Playing with it, on a storytelling/character analysis level. And then making it healthy, having them work through issues, bc the idea that “we’re both in way too deep with each other, we can either destroy each other or learn to get along” is jus 👌👌👌

And w kyman I love having Eric be Kyle’s exception. Kyle feels basically nothing towards his other s/o’s in contrast to how deeply he feels about Eric, and for Eric to have just as much depth of emotion in return. It’s fascinating and really fun esp when written from a kind of duo-redemptive story—they both start out toxic towards each other, and their relationship is toxic to other people, but they can’t bring themselves to put an end to it so they finally make it to that middle ground and come out as better peoole, together

This applies to a lot of my rivals/enemies to lovers ships but w kyman in particular there’s the added Funkiness of the childhood friends dynamic which is TASTEY like some nice sprinkles to jus add that extra Flavour. I love the concept of Kyle and Eric forming parts of their entire identities around each other from the time they were in diapers and everyone accepts that they’re always gonna he crazy for each other bc no one has the bond they do it’s so much fun

4) brotp: I should think more abt Kyle friendships tbh I don’t give those as much attention ahsjdkfkfk—tho I definitely have a soft spot for the super best friends kyle + Stan, I just have to work some development into it.

I love exploring their friendship as smth that deteriorates bc they grow apart as people, but then they realize they don’t WANT to grow apart and have to work to stay friends bc being friends isn’t as easy as it was when you were 8. It brings this really cool development that confronts Stan’s passivity towards his friends/his nihilism and Kyle’s entitlement and lack of emotional sensitivity and how they both need to make some compromises (but esp Kyle, bc I can see Stan as someone who tries very hard to not get much feedback).

In terms of Kyle being friends w other people I’m thinking it would be pretty situational. I can see Kyle getting some really eye opening perspectives from other ppl if he opens himself up to their views but that requires knocking Kyle down a few pegs lol, it’s fun to have him learn to recognize his own assumptions abt ppl and learning to value them as individuals yanno?

3) notp: honestly? Any other kyle ship. I can personally only see Kyle w Eric ahsjdkfk kyman endgame all the way. For me, a lot of other Kyle ships like, don’t make any sense, a lot in part bc I see Kyle as someone who has a lot of issues w socialization, entitlement, and selfishness along with his UNENDING OBSESSION w Eric Cartman (which also somewhat stems from those issues bc of Kyle’s sense of self identity vis a vis the rivalry)

Like, I can’t see Kyle sitting down and forming a meaningful romantic relationship w anyone else bc like, no one can provide the fulfillment, engagement, drive, and push/pull of Kyle’s relationship w Eric. Kyle would leave at the drop of a hat to confront smth Eric was doing and I don’t think he’d ever compromise with that. And someone who does compromise on that probably isn’t someone Kyle would want to be with in the long run.

I think the only ship I can see would be like, poly m4 bc that draws on pre-existing dynamics and doesn’t break or try to divy up Kyle’s attention. (Even tho like I said I don’t like Kyle w anyone else romantically)

5) 1st hc that pops in my head: my Kyle is autistic as fuck. Characterizing him as autistic gives a lot of insight into how his mind works and why he acts the way he does—a lot of his thought processes are just. What makes the most logical sense to him. It’s just that those trains of thought are on KYLES logic and that’s when he struggles to realize when he’s crossed a line or overstepped a boundary. Or how his brain is usually always “self-centered”—not in a morally negative way, just in that it’s not a natural reflect for him to remember other people.

And a ton of other things as well( including a fun hc of Kyle trying to use his autism as an excuse for being a dick, until Also Autistic Craig steps up like, no dude you’re just an asshole bc you’re not trying to do better). And bc as an autistic person, I really relate hard to Kyle to the point where if he were real I’d probably hate him bc we’d be too similar lmao; I think esp when I was a kid I acted a lot like Kyle—the self righteousness, the bossiness, the belief that my way was the only way that made sense and everyone else was just Wrong, the anger issues, etc.

It’s why I’m tough on Kyle a lot of the time, but it’s also why I love thinking abt his development, bc I know firsthand that he can mellow out, change, become a better, more wellrounded and emotionally aware person, and how he can make an effort into doing so

6) oh shit I didn’t even mean for this but obviously one way I relate to Kyle is the Above autistic hc and how I characterize him. Like I said, I acted a LOT like Kyle when I was a kid, so I know he’s an irritating little shit, but also brilliant and too thoughtful for his own good sometimes.

But another thing: I characterize Kyle as someone who is a natural leader, but hates being in official leadership positions. And this is also smth I’ve kinda written due to personal experience. But also from the way kyles often portrayed in canon—in the games, he’s always a support role, always a healer, ranged fighter, or someone who boosts and buffs allies

I see Kyle as the type of person who can easily take control in, for example, a group project situation, or when he’s hanging out with Stan and they’re only doing what Kyle wants to do bc Kyle comes up with all the ideas and Stan just goes along with them

But I can’t see Kyle as someone who’d want to be, like, student counsel president. (That’s more Wendy’s wheelhouse) Mostly bc there’s too much responsibility that it’s just exhausting, and more than that, those official positions are STIFLING. They run on someone else’s schedule and they’re creatively constructive. You can’t fully do your own thing bc you have to be constantly aware of how the group works and what the group wants. I can’t see Kyle as being happy in that position bc he’d get sick of having to conform his ideas to what other ppl want—he just wants to do his own thing.

So instead, Kyle would be more comfortable in a supporting role. Bc in a position like, for example, secretary or VP, he can still have a lot of influence, power, and knowledge, but he’s free from those restrictions that come from being the face of a group. And he’s also free from the social obligations of being a leader, esp in having to deal w other groups in like a business sort of way. AND if the group falls, Kyle won’t take as much of the blame, bc it’s probably not his fault anyways so why should everyone point fingers at him. It’s much less pressure.

(And it’s also kinda inspired by his role in the CBAA??—Cartman’s perfect in the CEO/face of the company position bc Cartman is comfortable with and relishes in the attention and social aspect of being the face/leader of a company, and Kyle can reap all the benefits of being a part of that company, including being an integral pillar of the company, w/o the deficits. If Eric and Kyle ran a company they’d work together, sure, but Eric would crumble without Kyle’s support, and Kyle would hate the stifling pressure of the head position, which makes them a perfect pair.)

(And again this is based on personal experience—I’m a natural leader. People listen to me, I can organize groups, and I’m a good mediator, but I hate when it becomes Official bc I can’t just. Do my own thing as I want to and it’s far too much to keep track of and most of it doesn’t interest me. It always irritated me when my parents tried to push me into like running for student president bc I just kept thinking abt all the work I’d have to do that I wouldn’t care abt)

7) what gives me secondhand embarrassment about Kyle? Well. Just......how much he reminds me of when I was a stupid kid. He’s such a little shit oh my god Kyle shut the fuck up YOURE NOT GHANDI. When Kyle’s being entitled and stuck up, when he thinks he’s better than other ppl, and when his own big mouth and pride are what fucks him over I’m just oh my god. Oh my GODDDDDD SHUT UPPPPP.

Mostly it’s secondhand embarrassment bc I’m jus oh my god ur an idiot—but again bc I know he has the ability to grow out of that and look back on himself with a grimace at how dumb he was ahsjdkfkfk

So there's something that's been praying on my mind for a while now. We've seen Bakugo grow, he's shown us he's not just some arrogant asshole, and we've seen a deeper part of him. But he obviously still hates Deku he's said it time and time again, and although I think their little battle after the licensing exam gave Bakugo new respect for Deku I still don't get it. In the training camp arc, if Bakugo hates Deku, and Deku actually "makes him sick" then why did he say "stay back?" as if he cares

Be warned, I wrote this at 4am so I'm sorry if this seems scatterbrained

So imma be honest, at first I didn't really like him, like at all (but look at me now collecting bakumerch and having a Bakubitch body pillow whoops)

I felt like he was a dick and honestly he reminded me of my countless of bullies over had in school. But as I kept watching I would notice tiny little details.

In this (hopefully) short essay I will explain my thought process and dissection of our Grenade Boi

(Spoilers, it's long)

So obviously at first glance he's a loud, obnoxious, vulgar prick. Who bullies sweet boy Izuku (yes he does, I ain't going to sugar coat anything).

To me this is just someone who has been given a rare opportunity and has let this pseudo superiority go to their heads.

(Small derailment but i promise it'll make sense)

I don't know if I ever said this before but my father was in the Marine Corp for 16 years, making yours truly, a military brat. Because of this I had to move around every 3 years like clockwork, making me a prime target for bullies and other foul tempered peers. I personally have been in Izuku's shoes around 4 times. One of those times I actually befriended a Bakugou type by just teasing back. Obviously it was a slow process but we eventually got along really well. So I'm using these past experiences for my analysis.

Back onto the topic at hand, BakuBitchMan.

Let's be honest here, Bakugou has been blessed with an amazingly powerful quirk, one with countless of uses and one that opens nearly all the roads to any path in his life. (I mean just look at M****a)

His quirk is in a way like Todorokis where it's a hybrid between both parents, as taken from this fandomwiki page on the gremlin himself

"...allows him to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms and detonate it at will to create explosions. The more Katsuki sweats, the stronger his explosions become."

Here are his parents Quirks:

Mitsuki: Glycerin

"Mitsuki can secrete Glycerin from her skin. Because of its moisturizing effect, she has great skin quality, which she maintains despite her age"

Masaru: Oxidising Sweat

"His palms can secrete acidic sweat with combustive and explosive properties. If he rubs his hands together he can create explosions, but unlike his son, he cannot forcibly secrete it, and it comes out like normal sweat"

His powerful quirk paired with his ideology of what it takes to be a hero can completely explain why and how he is the way he is. Katuski sees heroes like we would see an honorable knight/warrior. Always fighting at their maximum to protect and serve the people, only ever falling when they are defeated. Honorable, powerful, and fighting villains with a sort of bridled passion. Katsuki hones in on All Lights strength and prowess in battle where as Izuku focuses in on the character of All Might.

To put it simply, Bakugou sees Heroes as Warriors and Midoriya sees them as The Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman

So whenever Midoriya would ramble about being helpful and outspoken about kindess it peeves Bakugou because he sees heroes as something Prideful, and being helped isn't very good for that knight image. So he rejects any form of that behavior and in turn treats Izuku like a pawn to bully. To me a childish tactic to something they don't like.

As for him continuing to treat him like shit later on in highschool both pre and post One for All. I feel like it's just one of those "I've been doing it for so long now, I have no idea how to change it" kind of things. Mainly because he doesn't treat anyone else with as much severity as he does Midoriya (albeit name calling but I'd consider that banter like me calling my friends bitches)

As for him not caring for Izuku but still telling him not to come find him I just don't see it that way.

Bakugou has a lot of respect for Izuku and there's a friendly bond between the two of you dig deep enough.

For example:

Let's take this whole scene into account. He knew he was being targeted and pretty much thought "Ah finally a time to show how much of a good fuckin hero I'll be, I'll fite every single one of these villains like they're everyday thugs"

Until he really saw the gravity of the situation at hand. Seeing Deku completely destroyed and having to be carried by Shoji because he can't even move because of a fight made him take Midoriya as serious as a heart attack. To me if he really hated Izuku he would've just been like "nah fuck yo bones, fuck yo orders, fuck yo chicken strips, I'mma fite anyway"

Like he knows Izuku is smart and can acess situations and find the most logical and successful approach, he in a way respects that part about him.

As for him telling Izuku not to come when he was being taken hostage I feel like that was so laced with love and concern for Midoriya bc he knows for a fact Izuku will try to save his ass no matter the cost bc that's just how Izuku sees heroism

He didn't want Midoriya to get even more hurt than he already was bc he is still figuring out just how powerful he is with One for All.

Then this brings us to the infamous scene.

After not only being saved, but actually seeing All Might, his childhood hero and whole reason for even training to be a hero, brutally get weaker and weaker to the point of near death, effectively ending his hero career, his world was shattering.

He was already conflicted about Midoriya all of a sudden having a quirk and climbing the ranks nearly instantly whereas he felt like he earned his place with his quirk and his sheer skill. But now his idol is falling, all because he got held hostage but some everyday looking villains. (To him)

Not to mention Katsuki only ever shows these raw unfiltered emotions around Izuku, so I reeeeaaaally don't see him downright hating Izuku. Because why would you spill personal tea with someone you hate?

I coin this type of personality a Pit Bull

They're tough, they're loud, they're mean, but they have a softer side only few people get to see. They seem brash and rude but their intentions have a deeper hidden meaning.

For example my father is a prime example of that, he'll bitch and coddle me about things in a way that sounds aggressive and kinda hard to listen to but he means well.

To me Katsuki is competitive through and through, and had no one to put him in his place. Now Midoriya has a quirk that can challenge his and he wants to see who is really better. He sees Midoriya not as a threat but as an opponent for the #1 hero slot and he wants him to be at the top of his game so it's obvious who will turn out on top.

I honestly can't wait to see where his character development will go later on with Izuku's. It's such an interestingly complex relationship and I love rambling about my head Bitchmanboomfist

first of all: the fact that Green canonically has a rivals to best friends arc with Red fills me with so much joy and YES they are on their alolan honeymoon you cannot convince me otherwise

okay like. gen 1 Green just perfectly encompasses what it’s like to be a ten year old in a way? like ofc he’s written like a kid bc he is a kid, but i feel like the writing on him just feels so genuine as compared to some of the other 10 yr old rivals you get in other regions. even though he’s kinda a brat at the start, he kinda eases up a bit as you go along your journey and starts giving you progressively nicer/more praise-y end lines when you beat him (going from “i picked the wrong pokémon!” to “so, you are ready for boss rocket!”) but still retains this childlike rivalry and competitiveness and i love that about him

and like. fucking beating him at the Indigo League still completely breaks my heart because even after he did become the champion at age 10 the first thing that happens is you beat him and Prof Oak just yells at him for being bad at things and like. ow.

this is why i headcanon that Red actually took awhile longer to get to Green like please. please give my boy a chance to be happy and proud

also Red was caught up with Team Rocket anyway so i imagine he must’ve fallen a little behind at some point? anyway

…….. nicer headcanon; Red can only cook two (2) foods, so Green cooks all the food for them when they move in together. he has attempted to teach Red how to cook, but Red pretends not to understand so Green will keep making him food. look i’ve played through classic red version a few times and when i say he wasn’t that much of a jerk, i do genuinely mean he was not that much of a jerk. he’s like ten. ten year olds are just Like That. i guess this isn’t too unpopular anymore but it was Back In The Day and in some parts of the fandom he’s still seen as a jerk and like Bro He Is Ten In RGB/FRLG cut him some slack

favorite thing about them

by now i guess you know im a sucker for character development, but i think they did a really good job with her!! i feel like her turn is a bit more in moments than it is with Green, who gradually evolves (lol) over the course of Kanto/all the gens overall. you see more discrete moments where Lillie starts to shift and gain confidence in herself and i am so proud of her ???? like the way she gets excited when she sees Olivia doin’ her z-move stuff, she starts buying her own clothes and getting ahead of you, etc etc

and like, she still has moments where she’s scared, there’s still some fundamental Lillie in there yknow? you don’t lose any of that softness that characterizes Lillie, she just like… she gets better, she develops without losing her Lillie vibe and i love that abt her. she overcomes a lot of the shit she had to deal with when she was stuck with Lusamine, she stands up to Lusamine eventually, and ghfdkjsg gah she’s a sweet gorl i love and appreciate her

also like. the writing on her backstory is so subtle in-universe. like yeah she literally looks like Lusamine’s daughter and you see her in the opening cutscene leaving Aether, but as the protagonist - like as Selene lets say, there’s little hints about where Lillie came from, and if you suspend your disbelief and put yourself in the pc’s shoes, there’s subtly to her character arc that i like

also like. when she changes her outfit and starts being more protagonist-y, like more confident and kinda bubbly instead of shy??? love that shit it’s so cute can i have custody of this child pls

least favorite thing about them

i like. sometimes feel like she’s too soft of a character for me to really get into? like i love her and Hau, they’re sweet good friends, but i tend to personally gravitate towards characters that create a little more tension (ie Green and N)

(though on that note, Hau can be kinda savage. he just calls Faba out and sarcastically calls Gladion “a ray of sunshine” at some point i think?? Lillie is just very tender and i will support her forever, but i think that also makes her almost too soft to keep me fixated on her yknow. it’s not even a flaw in her character but just not something i fawn over as much)

2: i think more ppl with my sense of humor should watch Spider Riders bc listen.. if somewhere along the line that show suddenly gained more popularity again in this fine year of 2019 id be both actually funny for once but also revolutionary. by all technicalities some of my hcs are fucking great but i dont think i could say a lot of them and even be comprehensible outside of orientation based ones that are just rlly controversial. granted im not even sure i could or would actually recommend the show to people cause its kinda dumb a lot of the time and also fairly long at least to my standards so its harder to finish unless ur like really invested in it :pensive:

9: my taste is so fucking weird and i hate it bc its mostly just, “oh yeah i heard abt this thing and it seems cool im hoping to start getting into it soon!” for most things that are actually cool or popular or all that and never actually get into it, but then i see smth dumb as shit that i know would probably make me look like an absolute fool for liking and im like, “oh yeah yknow what i can do this one” and then i do like it but i cant say much about it either cause i dont wanna look like. a fool.

21: the SR novels were cowards only on account of not giving us any official design for petra but also for writing igneous like. That. novelverse igneous is just too bitter in general and like i get it but they couldve done a lot more with him even though he is still somewhat respectable in the end, granted its hard cause like holy shit hes so fucking mean to hunter literally who asked for that. im just glad the anime let him be somewhat more idk.. i guess sociable while still keeping a lot of the inherently essential aspects his personality had like his almost over the top loyalty to the prince and taking things like training/combat in general very seriously. its just good and animeverse igneous is so good id die for him thanks for coming to my tedtalk

sf9 stands for “sensational feeling 9,” they’re an idol group under fnc entertainment that debuted on october 6, 2016. before debut they were in a program called neoz school as the neoz dance team, along with 4 other trainees that made up the neoz band team (now honeyst, check them out they’re great!) the two groups then entered the survival show dance or band (d.o.b) to get a chance at debut. the dance team won by a very close vote so they got to debut first. in korea, sf9 has released one single album, called feeling sensation, and two extended plays, called burning sensation and breaking sensation. in japan, they’ve recently released two singles, fanfare and easy love. they are currently holding fanmeetings around asia and will be at kcon la next month!

Vancouver, BC Canada - August 29, 2019

I was meaning to post something sooner, something for after Kelowna, after Victoria, after Toronto (again) or at least something on the 5th anniversary of me going to Europe but time and circumstances got in the way. Can’t say any of the three trips would be worth their own blog but I guess since I got an hour before I board for next and biggest adventure of this year I should bring whomever actually still reads this back up to speed.

Kelowna was a bit of a let down for me, I had memories of Kelowna as a fun summer trip area to go to as a kid, instead it feels like a mere shadow of its former self, the only thing that was left from my childhood and the only thing that was relatively fun in Kelowna to do was Scandia and even that paled in comparison to how I remembered it as a kid but me and my girlfriend had fun. The purpose of the trip was to show my girlfriend more of British Columbia. The biggest highlight of the trip was to be able to play and finish Time Crisis 2 with her. Time Crisis was always one of those games I did alone and could never get anyone to play with and one I could never pass myself. Who knew that playing these shootem up games would end up being a date thing for us.

Beer I would give 1/3 C, food 1/4 C, vibe 1/2 C, transit 1/2 C and things to do a 1/3 C. So Kelowna gets C11/12 on the Corey Scale which seems like it is scathing but in the end outside of Scandia there wasn’t much to do, transit was ok, vibe was ok, food selection wasn’t that great and the beer which I was hoping to be the good thing wound up being lack lustre both in quality and selection.

Victoria I don’t think I need to review again, my view of that city hasn’t really changed it is still a favourite place to go to in BC. We went to help my friend Dani move for the forth time in 5 years. In return we got to stay at her brother’s for free. We didn’t really do that much outside of what we normally do; my girlfriend goes through the vintage shops for stuff, I go through the record and music shops and both basically enjoy walking around Victoria. Had breakfast again at John’s Place and had the best French’s Toast I have had in recent memory. I am definitely going back there for that.

Then there is Toronto, I went on a work related trip that I feel was less needed for me to go and more of a thank you from my workplace for the hard work I have been putting in over the last few months and I have put in a lot of work. I only stayed in Toronto for two nights, when I got there I barely had time to do anything but finish my mom’s Christmas shopping and buy myself a jersey. The next day was the work related training and after hanging out with fellow coworkers from other parts of the country I went to a bar that had the best selection of beer I could find and basically spin the wheel on Toronto beer.

I can’t say my opinion of Toronto has changed, I still hate the airport, I am not really a fan of their beer or lack their of, people there are nice enough and once you figure out their transit it is fairly straight forward it’s not my kind of place. With all that said I feel like I still need to visit Toronto one more time, I actually regret that I didn’t use what little leave time I have left to just take the Friday off and make a weekend out of it. I would have went to the Wonderland park, a museum maybe and see the hockey hall of fame again. Toronto is too big for me, too fast and I don’t like their beer. If I had a choice I would take Montreal over Toronto.

So here we are to now, it has been five years since I went to Europe and today I will return again though not for 2 and a half months but 2 and a half weeks. I have done enough talking about Europe, I feel like I need to talk about the adventure that has been the last 5 years since. As much as I have ranted about the glories of my trip to Europe it wasn’t what changed me, Europe was the catalyst but not the entire reason. I find myself looking back to five years and feeling like I am a completely different person than who I was back then at least from an emotional and life state.

5 years ago I was suffering from depression boardering on suicide, I had a dead end job I felt trapped, I was lonely and desperate for love in my life and I felt like things were hopeless to me. I made a promise to myself early in my 20s that before I turned 30 that I would do something with my life, it was either make a movie or go to Europe. My friend Tyler suggested Europe and I think he was right in the end. I went to Europe at 29 looking to find myself or at least a reason to keep living and after a few long nights or looking deep into myself in many places especially in Ireland I came out a better person but more or less as one friend would call me still a hot mess. I found the tools in Europe but I still didn’t know how to use them.

After Europe I was still lonely, depressed, lost and further more now unemployed even though I thought that my job would be waiting for me when I came back. On top of self induced heart break and betrayal I had my own version of a nervous breakdown not too long after I came back from my annual trip to Newfoundland. One that forced me to question whether continuing to mentally beat myself up was worth it anymore because it never worked, it only ever made things worse. I decided to try and fight my depression and try and make my life better. So I made a three year plan and got a job at Walmart which funny enough paid better than my last job. The plan was to go to school for the next two years either in Brewmastery or Library Tech and after graduation I would travel to Europe again before hunting for my career. Thankfully I chose library tech though I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if I chose brewmastery.

It came down to money and health, if I was to do brewmastery at the time I would have to move to a small town in Alberta. Completely up root my life and work in a business that was and probably is killing me slowly. Or choose library tech and try to find a way to get into doing something I like which is record keeping.

By the time the summer was over I was in the best shape of my life and finally have a handle on my mental health issues. While working at Walmart I got witness the negative effects of depression. My workplaces was littered with all sort of depressed people who were all in my position but many with their own ways of dealing with it. It was through seeing them that I realized that I made the right choice in fighting. Every night I would witness people who were so obviously miserable that their misery would spill on to others and I hated that, that was the turning point to me when I realized my depression was hurting others, to see it happening here was sobering. Then there would be some who did nothing complain about where they worked and their life, some who just looked utterly miserable all night long. Again it made decision to fight more justified. All I need to do is to think about the summer to remind myself why fighting is the way to go.

My first year of college was blitzkrieg of fun, drama and life changing events. I went from having a hard time getting a woman to even having a second date with me to having two or three women who I could have had a chance with. By the end of that first year I found a summer job that paid even better than anything before and it lead to consistent work for much of 2017 which enviably lead to a full time job.

I went from preparing for a possible Europe trip in the summer of 2017 when I graduated to having a contract to work till March 2018, I went from having no one in my life who loved me to a woman who was willing to cross the pacific multiple times just to see scruffy looking hairy dog like me. I was then prepared to go to Europe after March 2018 when my contract was over only to move to any other branch and work with them till September. Even by the end of September just coming back from Australia to see my girlfriend I was preparing myself for a Europe trip only finallly now have a career. So Europe was no longer something I could do at least at that point.

Here we are in 2019, my girlfriend from Australia has moved in with me, I have a full time job that pays well, a living wage if I didn’t live in Vancouver. I have my health, I have a love in my life whom I love and who I know loves me, I have a decent job and good workplace culture though they can burn me out with work on occasion so what is the problem?

I guess over the past few months I have been afraid, I have been feeling lost and displaced as well. Afraid mainly that I could easily slip back to who I was 5 years ago though everything is different now I feel lost again I feel like I need to find the next path to go but I don’t know what it is. I feel like I have also lost touch with myself again. I don’t think I know myself very well anymore. Above all else I have been experiencing burn out over these past few months working three jobs in one.

I don’t feel like I have much if any time to really enjoy anything. If I am not sleeping or working I am trying to recover while spending time with who I love and what few friends I have left who still live in Vancouver. Again I also feel like my interests are changing, I am not as passionate about movies or music anymore. I am not as passionate about beer anymore as I was not too long ago. I know a lot about those three things but I don’t really care as much for them anymore.

I would like to get back into video games and anime again, I would like to get to hang out with more people and play games, I would like to be apart of something however outside of wishing to join D&D I don’t know where the gateway is to the next phase of my life. I even feel like that with my clothes. I feel like I need a makeover I just don’t know what the change would be so I am just walking through the fog till I find the road I like more and I will take it.

I don’t expect Europe to fix me, it didn’t the first time and I don’t expect it to this time either but I do hope if will give me some perspective. I already feel like I am getting some by talking about this now.

In 5 minutes I board, four hours from Vancouver to Chicago then from Chicago a 9 hour flight to Amsterdam. I won’t be staying in Amsterdam but will be at the end. Tomorrow will be the most stressful day of the trip for me because of some uncertainties that I am not sure of but I know I have done what I can to mitigate but I won’t know till I get there whether it will work out. This is all part of the adventure, something I must accept as per usual and in a way I like it this way. I like to plan for every possible and once I have the plan then I am ready to throw it away and let the wind guide me.

I know I will have fun, I will try my best to, I deserve it. So here we go......shazbot nanu nanu
