character opinion bingo: spike’s mom, anne
everything about this character can be summed up by the following (picture me saying it in a stunned, almost revalatory, and yet simultaneously 'jesus-here-we-go-again' voice): his mother's name. was anne.

tragic! this man really doesn't want to be living and reliving an oedipal pastiche but it just keeps happening to him! no but i wish we'd seen more of who she was before all that - although from the way he is with joyce, i tend to imagine she was a Cool Mom (for the 1800s that probably meant reading mary wollstonecraft or something) and since afaik we never figure out what his dad was doing or if he was alive, she was probably raising her kid alone. presumably her husband had died, and left her with a fair amount of money bc she seems comfortably well-off, although i think their savings probably started to wear thin once she had been sick for a while. it's lonely not having siblings, especially when the caretaking dynamic flips and you find yourself looking after your ailing or aging parent. but i think she was probably quite proud of her child, even if his peers didn't see much worth writing home about. she'd spent the past twenty-plus years watching this sensitive, emotional, highly romantic person develop into a mature, softspoken adult, and i think she probably would not be thrilled with the whole punk-rock wannabe thing that happened later...but she wasn't there for that. as long as she existed as herself she knew her child as he had always been to her, whose instinct was to help her in a way that wouldn't just put off suffering, but erase it (it was a bad idea, but hey, he's stupid, we know this) - which is no small thing when you think about how quickly her own moral compass deteriorated. normally when working around the complexities (read: wild inconsistencies) of buffyverse soul canon, i tend to err on the side of 'whatever you are soulless, those faults were already in you' - and visa versa - whatever morality you retain while soulless, you had that capacity too. and i don't want to say she was Like That as a human being, but everyone has vices and internal things they'd never act on or even want to think about, but which exist for them anyway. possibly the experience of being lonely, and aging, and knowing her time was coming, and having only really one person consistently in her life, taking care of her, being young and strong and having values she approved of because she'd personally instilled them...maybe that surfaced in a bad way when the switch flipped. so to me she's a character whose complexities are hinted at but only just - and who is more than a little bit reflected in other parts of the story.

Yandere Gilbert Blythe x reader
I only write sfw, feel free to make requests. Forced relationship. Kinda Yan if you squinting idk.
"Gilbert Blythe." You could taste the sourness of his name on your tongue as you spit it out.
"Y/N L/N." He mocked. His usual smirk plastered his face.
He was one of the top kids in your class at school and one of the most popular boys. Your friends, Ruby and Anne, were obsessed with him. Ruby was more open about it than Anne, but Anne's feelings were obvious.
If it weren't for them you might have caught something for him too. Of course it'd be difficult to feel anything but guilt if you were to. That doesn't mean you avoided him though. You often talked and joked with him. You weren't best buds but you weren't strangers(it'd be next to impossible to be in a town like Avonlea).
Besides, you were sure your parents would find a partner for you. Your parents have always wanted you to focus on your studies so they had always reassured you that they'd handle your marriage. You didn't mind it that much. You don't think they'll choose someone small minded, or far away, and you know they wouldn't choose someone who'd interfere with you going to college and living your life the way you want to.
But this bothered you. This made your stomach turn.
There he was. Standing on your front porch, with a bouquet of random flowers.
"Oh, Y/N, let the boy in!" Your mother chattered. She pushed you to the side and opened the door wider for him. "Welcome, Gilbert." She chirped.
"Thank you, Mrs. L/N." Gilbert stepped inside of your home. He removed his coat and hat and started towards you. "These are for you, Y/N." He handed you the flowers. You could see your mother's glare from behind Gilbert's curly head, urging you to be polite.
"Thank you, Gilbert." You accepted the flowers and moved to the kitchen to find something to put them in, rolling your eyes when you turn away from him.
When you came back your mother, father, older brother, and Gilbert were all sitting in the foyer.
"Y/N, stop standing around." Your mother smiled slyly. "Have a seat next to Gilbert." You looked over to the seat next to Gilbert. There were open seats next to both your mother, and brother. She was clearly up to something.
Of course it'd be rude to not take the seat after being told to do so, so you sat down next to him.
As you were fixing your dress to free it of small wrinkles in the skirt your father cleared his throat.
"Ahem, uh-" he awkwardly sat up. "We have something to tell you." He had a weird but proud smile on his face as he looked at your mother, brother, and then finally, you. His hand gestures over to Gilbert. "Would you like to tell her, Gilbert?" He asked.
Gilbert's face became flushed. He laughed shyly. He looked down at his hands in his lap then turned to you.
"Well, Y/N." He grabbed your hands, his thumb rubbing the back of your right hand gently. "Recently, I had asked your parents for your hand in marriage."
Gilbert was looking in your eyes but yours had gone blank. You were puzzled. Perplexed. You knew your parents were looking for someone, and you knew Gilbert would get an automatic yes from them, but why was Gilbert asking you? Why not Ruby? Or Anne? Or literally anyone else. You couldn't marry him. That'd only be a betrayal against your friends. You had only thought that your mother invited him so he might consider you, but you didn't imagine he would.
You realized you had been silent for too long when Gilbert was waving his hand in front of your face. Before you could properly think you blurted out;
"No!" Slapping his hand out of your face. Gilbert pulled his hand to his chest. You hadnt hurt him but it was a surprise. You turn to your mother. "You didn't tell him I would marry him, did you?"
Your mother was shocked, mouth agape and all.
"Well, of course we did." Your father said, still wide eyed from your reaction.
You could see your brother trying to hold back his laughter.
"Oh bite your tongue." Your mother spouted at him.
Without saying anything, you rose from your seat and began walking up to your room. Closing the door behind you, and falling to the ground.
You can hear your family in the living room.
"She's just being dramatic, Gilbert." You heard your brother reassure him.
"We're terribly sorry Gilbert." Your mother continued after.
"It's no problem." Gilbert said. "We can try again another day."
"Yes, I'm sure she'll come around." Your dad chimed in.
Clearly, they had not gotten the hint that you were unhappy with this situation. Each of them took turns throughout the night knocking on your door and trying to get even an ounce of a reaction. Each try was futile.
The next day you remained silent. You didn't even eat breakfast. You just walked past your family and out the door.
When you got to school the message board was surrounded. Diana ran to you as you got to the door.
"Hello, Diana." You said, exasperatedly.
"Y/N. What's this about? Are you really marrying Gilbert?" She said. She seemed more concerned than upset. She'd support you no matter what but that doesn't mean she could hold back Ruby or Anne from reacting poorly. Luckily they hadn't gotten to school yet.
"What?" You dropped your books and ran to the message board.
After pushing past a group of people you reached the board. There it was. The only note on the board.
"Gilbert and Y/N are engaged to be married."
You were fuming! You knew exactly who did this. You tore the note from the board and pushed back out of the group of people as you stormed inside.
"I'm not marrying you!" You threw the crumpled up note at the back of Gilbert's head. The class members inside turned and watched.
Gilbert's hands shot up in defense as he turned to face you.
"Who said I wrote the note?" He smirked. Your face turned red with fury.
"You are so smug and inconsiderate!" You scoffed.
"And you're beautiful when you're angry." Gilbert nodded at you teasingly.
You couldn't even think of a response besides storming away. The rest of class you could feel Gilbert's eyes shooting at you, along with every other girls, besides Rubys, who still had zero idea of the event that occurred before she got to school.
You were thankful that everyone, including Billy and Josie Pye, were quiet about the incident during lunch. You were also thankful to have a peaceful, Gilbert free lunch in the girls corner.
But of course your peace could not last forever.
You had hoped to stick close to Diana and Anne on their walks home but the second Gilbert came up it was like they handed you to him on a silver platter. Anne letting him take you was the most confusing part.
Gilbert made it painfully obvious that he wanted you to hook arms with him as you walked, making a small triangle that stuck out of his side with his arm. Of course you ignored it and stormed ahead.
"Would you slow down?" Gilbert piped, chasing after you like a lost puppy.
"Why should I? You've got long legs. You should certainly be able to keep up." You tried to pick up your pace but honestly it was getting tiring and you could feel your own breath getting ragged.
Gilbert's hand reached up and caught yours, clasping his fingers around yours, stopping you in your tracks.
"Because chasing you makes me seem like some kind of monster and walking together is far more enjoyable." He pulled your hand up and kissed your knuckles.
"Perhaps it's enjoyable for you, Mr. Blythe, but currently, I do see you as a monster." You pulled your hand from his face but did not break free from the hand hold.
"And what makes me a monster?" He began walking again, at a very slow pace as you followed alongside him.
"This whole marriage business for one;" You began. "I didn't think you were the type to force a girl to marry you, Mr. Blythe."
"Would you have said yes if I had asked?" He was nervous for your answer. His jaw clenched and his left brow quirked up.
"No, but I am not saying yes now either." Gilbert looked a little disappointed but shook it off before you could notice. "I think I've made it clear that I don't wish to marry you, Mr. Blythe."
"You know when we get married you won't be able to call me Mr. Blythe anymore, right?" He teased, trying to change the topic. You just gave him a sour look and no reply. Gilbert cleared his throat then tried again. "I was thinking we could have the ceremony in spring. Would you like that?"
"Hypothetically, I'd prefer an early fall wedding." You replied, half heartedly.
"Then that's what we'll have. A nice, fall wedding." Gilbert gently squeezed your hand and stepped closer.
As the weeks passed you slowly noticed changes in your friends, especially Ruby. Her already dwindling gaze towards Gilbert had shifted in full throttle towards Moody and she repeatedly made small hints at giving you her blessing with the engagement. You tried to tell her that there was nothing between you and Gilbert but she just kept giving you little thumbs up as you would leave with him each day.
Anne also began acting strangely. Despite your persistent denial she insisted that she supported you.
It was like all of Avonlea was on Gilbert's side; rooting for him; rooting against you.
Sure, the guilt would be gone now, seeing as your friends no longer hold feelings for him, but now there was a whole new reason.
You didn't have a choice. You couldn't oppose the marriage and you couldn't consent. Gilbert was nice but he wasn't nice enough to break off the engagement.
After a while of begging you got an idea. It was a horrible and inconvenient idea. Even the thought of it made you feel like a vixen. But it had to be done. The engagement had been finalized and this was the only way to break it off.
Your plan wasn't that hard to come up with either. Tell the girls you have feelings for one of the other boys, don't say who, and ruin your own reputation. If you were known to be someone who wishes to be with other while already "taken" then there would be no reason to continue with the marriage.
Then, during college, once everything blows over and you're free again, you can find someone you truly love.
When lunch came around you made your grand confession and all of the girls looked at you as if you had just told them the most shocking news ever. By the end of the day most of the girls had told their parents, friends, siblings, etc.
By the time word had gotten back to Gilbert he was bewildered and, though he would hate to admit it, angry.
You felt proud walking out of your house the next morning after having been chewed out by your whole family.
"Now it'll be impossible to find a good Avonlea boy for you."
"You really screwed that one up."
"Why won't you just accept Gilbert?"
If gossip was good somewhere, it was Avonlea.
You felt proud, that is, until you made it down the steps of your porch, seeing Gilbert smelling the flowers that lined the railing. When we noticed you he stood up and snaked his arm around yours.
"Good morning dear." He's greeted as he started walking.
"Good morning Mr. Blythe." Why was he here. He should be at school for his morning classes or anywhere but in front of your home.
"Gilbert." He said. "It's been a while since you called me Gilbert."
You rolled your eyes at that, although you were still quite nervous.
"Gilbert, why are you here so early?" You asked.
"I have no plans of canceling the engagement." This stopped you in your tracks, stopping Gilbert along with you.
"Why not?"
"I know you made it up." His free hand went to your face, cupping your cheek. "I love you Y/N. I don't care how many people tell me to cancel it. I need you."
This wouldve been a sweet confession if it all hadn't been forced upon you. Instead, it felt like you had only dug yourself further into the ground. Of course Gilbert would know you lied, he's the smartest in the class, and of course he wouldn't care what others thought of you, that's how he is.
You felt stupid.
Stupid and trapped.

So Anne Boleyn didn't want her nephew Henry Carey at court cause he was supposedly disabled? Just like Gregory, Borman turned a good thing Anne did for her sister into a nasty thing? What evidence does she shows for Henry being disabled, or Anne not wanting him around? And for goodness' sake, isn't it strange that some historians and fiction writers seem to hate Anne (like Borman or Weir) but can't help to end up writing about her, because, let's face it, ANNE BOLEYN SELLS! They must feel so bad for always having to return return to this woman they are so eager to portray as the Worst Human Being Ever.
Literally none, and I'm not even joking. There's no citation, no additional information or details, she doesn't even name this nephew so I don't even know if it's Henry Carey to whom she's referring, or one of the Stafford children (whose existence/survival remains disputed), or even the later Elizabethan priest, George Boleyn, dean of Lichfield, who has been erroneously labeled as the son of Viscount Rochford, George Boleyn(illegitimate at times, by marriage other times), Julia Fox has argued for the likelihood he was some distant Boleyn cousin, and I'm inclined to agree. The claim is dropped into a paragraph about the perils of childbirth to contextualize Anne's own potential fears as if from the sky:
Worse still, Anne's closest female relations had suffered an unfortunate history in this respect. Her mother had lost several babies in infancy and her sister, Mary, had borne a son with mental disabilities whom Anne would not suffer to be at court. But in her favour was the fact that her health was generally considered good, and as one observer remarked, she seemed 'likely enough to bear children.' --Elizabeth's Women, Tracy Borman
So...yeah, if who she meant here was Henry Carey, I have no idea what she's talking about, A, and B, this is the sole* "factoid" she chose to mention about their relationship? Not that she had wardship of him, not that she arranged for him to receive his education from the scholar she patronized, Nicholas Bourbon, alongside Henry Norris (the younger), Henry Dudley, and the son of Nicholas Harvey, her 'strong partisan' and the husband of her great friend, Bridget Wingfield...all signs which point to Carey being in Anne's favour. I have no idea if he was ever at court, but if there's no record of him at court while Anne was queen, does it not seem more plausible to attribute this to A) how brief that time was and/or B) that his mother was banished from court due to the marriage she had made without royal permission?
I just don't...know, with Borman, really? It'd be interesting to have the unedited interview footage from BSR because I was surprised how overall sympathetic she was towards the subject, honestly. And I can't speak to the new book, I haven't read it, but the PR push for it has centered around praise of AB as an individual, as to her character.
For Weir, I mean, she received the deal to do that fictionalized serial on the six Queens of Henry VIII, of course AB had to be included. If I'm being perfectly honest, I feel like everything she has done since Lady in the Tower has had this weird self-animus pushing behind it, guilt over having further popularized a figure she hates so implacably. Her original view ("a total bitch...she alienated so many people that that must be true") has been evident in all her subsequent works and interviews; from claiming in one in 2017 that there exists a letter extant in AB's own handwriting where she orders Lady Shelton to beat her stepdaughter (there isn't), to depicting AB in her latest novel as having been so ugly and "painfully thin" naked that it was an instant boner-killer for her poorest little meow-meow.
*I believe other sections of this book are dedicated to the Careys so hopefully she expands later...I can't remember if she does. So far in my current read she has not mentioned the wardship and it was in 1528 and the book is now in 1533, so....

I was reading your tags to dre's published ask. Do you think while writing about these blood sucking monsters, Anne deliberately made one of them a former slave master? I mean the way this man during his mortal times had benefited by preying on the black race and the reflection of it in his fate where he is now in literal terms an entity who survives by preying on people? Or is it like twilight ( movies) where Jasper's past as a confederate soldeir is just dropped as if it's the most casual thing to shrug away.
( something is up with vampire media and all of them being connected to slave trade my god. Either it is a social commentary or people really do not have any self awarenesses?
i dont know about twilight book or movie to make a meaningful comparison to louis’s book counterpart. i wish i knew. and tbh, its hard to prescribe authorial intent on a dead woman who wrote a sprawling epic of 20+ books for 50 years , especially with shifting perspectives , namely pivoting away from louis to lestat as her MC bc of what fantasy/POV was more interesting to her. but i think in the first book there was some intention there, i cant just say how much. lestat wants to hunt the runaway slaves along the freniere plantation, and louis discourages him from doing it not out of compassion for enslaved people (which would be condescending and abysmal writing for a slaveowning character), but for his proximity to the freniere’s as fellow planters. ive talked about it a lot how its really interesting in the first 2 books that the american planter is created both literally + vampirically by the european aristocrat.. and theyre both parasitic beings in relation to the enslaved people, eventually draining them+ burning the plantation down. iwtv early book louis is resentful of lestat in part bc he thought lestat wanted his plantation, but when he learns who lestat is + where he came from, the power and will he has. hes far more genial to him. its a very dark book, and i think the fact that these characters are so vicious + melancholic is intentional on the authors part. i dont know how much race based chattel slavery is meaningfully explored from the perspective of the slaveowner, but book louis thinking of people in his captivity as fixtures, as creepy ‘things’ more proximate to the supernatural bc of their ‘african nature’ (that had yet to be ‘trained’ out of them) is a very probable, chilling, and haunting perspective of a former slaveowner to take even a hundred and some years removed from it. or if we take it as book louis immersing himself in his perspective @ the time. either way. and its pathetic when fans try to flatten book louis into ‘he was a good slaveowner’ cuz at that point theyre just conflating the movie with the book. i kinda joke that book louis is the vampire it girl bc he was such a terrible mortal LOL. im still indeterminate on the exact mode or purpose, or how much it was just about the aesthetic of gothic horror (re: the earth’s a savage garden). especially bc later books fixate on very discrete modes and metaphors of servitude/subjugation ‘being a slave to the blood’ is a recurring motif running antiparallel with the motif of ‘purifying the african/asian/foreign’ (through ‘admixture’ with the ‘european’) (s/o poacher bro gabi + talamasca bro dave ig) and in later works, theres the cycle of slavery through marius & armand.. marius, whos mother was a slave, purchases armand. chattel slavery took inspo from the romans in the idea of maternal based slave caste inheritance.. idk. idk. ive had very long rambly convos w ppl on here in the past (& im still a bit embarrased abt it) on this, but i think the reasons why fans dont rly get into it is cuz most ppl got into these books at a young age + was just into the cool lore or the queer shit and were able to handwave things as just aesthetic/era/quirky anne things etc. idk.

Chantal van Mourik (Kris Guštin's mother) about the New Wave on NPO Radio 2
You can find and listen to the original podcast here (40:30).
Voiceover: Blokhuis (host's name) World hit
Leo: So, Anneli, where are we going?
Anneli: Slovenia.
Leo: Slovenia. Slovenia was where the weather was so bad when I was on holiday. Yeah, whole campings have been washed away there.
Anneli: Oh, no
Leo: And people have been evacuated in busses, but we're not talking about that now.
Anneli: No.
Leo: Because we are talking about the music of Slovenia. We'll go to Chantal van Moerik.
Anneli: (correcting) Mourik
Leo: Van Mourik, sorry.
Anneli: You are still in Greek mode, mixing up vowels, or what?
Leo: I'm still in [unintelligible]. Chantal van Mourik, a year ago we also spoke with her, and back then she introduced us to a band: Joker Out, and that was a very cool band, or- that is a very cool band. And that's not by coincidence, because Chantal is the mother of one of the band members, so it is a Slovenian slash...
Anneli: Dutch.
Leo: Dutch band, *laughs* a little bit at least. And because the band recently had a very unexpected collaboration, we wanted to talk about that for a little. So we're gonna ask Chantal what the deal is exactly.
Chantal: Joker Out. Earlier this year they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest and won a place in the final. And since then they have been going through Europe at rocket speed. So they have already been on tour in the UK and Ireland and later this year we will see them in Scandinavia, Germany and also the Netherlands. In between all of that international success, they have also had the chance to record a single with none other than Elvis Costello.
Leo: But wait, wait, wait, wait, we're talking about a Eurovision act from Slovenia, that's working together with Elvis Costello.
Anneli: Yeah, with Elvis Costello, the one and only.
Leo: Okay the man is a little older, but I still wanna know how that's possible.
Chantal: The godfather of the former bassist of the band is from Liverpool and close friends with Costello and he showed him the original Slovenian version of 'Novi val' ('New Wave'), with an explanation of the meaning. That was enough, because Elvis Costello felt this song, and in record time, he wrote his own English lyrics, and also recorded them.
Leo: I see... Firstly I am hearing an unstoppably proud mother, *laughs* and I love that. And rightly so, Chantal, rightly so. Chantal van Mourik speaking about her son, and the band of her son, and that band is called... er
Anneli: Joker Out.
Leo: Joker Out. And the song is called 'New wave', and Elvis Costello is gonna be singing on it. And now she will quickly introduce the track herself.
Chantal: 'Novi val', ('New Wave'), is about a new generation that grows up in a time where the world is burning, literally, but still has the power, through connectedness, in love and hope, to make a difference. 'Generacija ljubezni in upanja, novi val' ('The generation of love and hope, the new wave'). You could say that this song is like a hymn of a generation, with which Joker Out shows that they sense exactly what is going on in the world and are trying to counterbalance that. They can be seen live in Amsterdam and The Hague on the 5th and 6th of December, but first, with Elvis Costello, 'New Wave'.

Love Theme from House of Leaves
So.
POE.
Tumblr media
Like I said, I don't usually explain the Bad Descriptions from my Bad Description Song Polls. Some of them I work hard on, some of them are just bad puns on the song lyrics or titles or whatever, but ultimately, the bad descriptions aren't really the point. The point is to get a couple people curious about artists they might not have heard before by erasing any preconceptions they might have about the artist, the genre, whatever. It's a goofy little game about my very serious love of music and my genuine desire to get people to experience the joys of just trying something new.
But then there's POE. Right? Specifically, there is Haunted by POE, an album that just straight up every time turns me into a four-hour video by an obsessed YouTuber down a really deep rabbit hole. Which is absolutely fitting, because as it turns out, Haunted comes from the same place as Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves.
You see, POE's real name is Anne Danielewski. Mark is her brother. And, regardless of the protests of the dudes on the MZD forums back in 2004, HoL and Haunted come from the same place -- the death of their father, Tad Danielewski, and their subsequent attempts to reconcile their complicated emotions about their perfectionist father, their estranged mother, and their shared and separate childhoods. The works contrast and complement -- House of Leaves is a labyrinth for the reader to wander; Haunted is a cache of tapes from a lost loved one that both sheds light on the past and casts preconceived notions into doubt. They reference each other (the "Poe T" in HoL, the "growling voice" in "Hey Pretty"), but don't require each other.
Even their creation is tangled. She read his book as he was writing it; he listened to her songs as she recorded them. He read a passage of his book over top of the album's first single when she was told radio was "just not playing women;" she took him on tour with her when she was opening for Depeche Mode. It was from the start a kind of double act.
And then it just wasn't anymore.
If there's a villain in this story, it is -- in a weird twist of foreshadowing -- WarnerMedia. Specifically, it is the disastrous AOL -- Time Warner merger, which saw POE unceremoniously dropped from Time Warner subsidiary Atlantic Records just six weeks after she'd signed a contract with them for three more albums. Copies of second single "Wild" were never sent to radio. Support for the album dried up. The ensuing legal wrangling saw POE's masters sold and resold from one label to another, while POE wound up unable to tour or record under her own pseudonym for years. So while House of Leaves went on to (deserved) classic status, Haunted disappeared.
I am not alone in finding this terrifically unjust. Mark Z. Danielewski himself calls the album "woefully underappreciated." Granted, he's biased, but so am I. I was a POE fan before House of Leaves was published. I discovered HoL through Haunted, although both came in close succession. For me, part of the mystery of the book is how it tangles with the album, how two people can go through the same maze and come out of it in such different locations, the same story told in different languages. But also...
I mean, it's just a hell of an album. Her voice is extraordinary. Her lyrics blend the metaphoric and the extremely literal in terrific ways. The mix of electronica, hip-hop, pop, and experimental is absolutely wired to my tastebuds (there's a reason she wound up invited on tour with the Depeche Mode, after all), and the overall work is plaintive, empowering, heartbreaking, and occasionally terrifying. It's so good. It's so, so good. I would almost be okay if this were her last ever album, it's that good.
I just wish more people were listening to it, you know?
So consider this my call to arms. If you are a House of Leaves fan, or even if you're not, even if the footnotes left you cold, give Haunted a listen. Just a couple songs. Just a taste.
Someone who loves you left a stack of tapes sitting by a boom box for you. Put one in. Press play.

Could I tell me about Laura's background? Family, ethnicity, etc? What her her skills, if she has any?
More Laura lore (lau-re lol)
Laura is French and her ethnicity is European. She was born on December 24th 1735 in La Besseyre-Saint-Mary (in the department of Haute-Loire in central France) and baptized three days after. (Her lightly tanned skin comes from her peasant family adapted working in the sun in the fields.)
Her parents’ names are Jean Chastel and Anne Charbonnier. She was the oldest of 9 siblings (although they will be born a few years after her). They were both peasants, but they made enough of a living to not worry much about money.
She was her father’s favorite child (even though she was a daughter and not a son), mostly due to the circumstances of her birth. Her mother had extreme complications during the birth, and Laura herself was pronounced dead a few minutes after birth, but then suddenly regained consciousness in the arms of her mother. That and the fact that her mother miraculously survived the difficult birth, made her father believe she was blessed by God and named her Laura (meaning ‘Laurel’, a tree associated with victory). Her mother recovered fully and was able to bear 9 additional children a few years after.
Her father was literate and taught her how to read and write. She was a devout Christian and attended church regularly.
Her early life was pretty calm, and she got along very well with her father, although her mother prioritized her siblings over her due to the favorable treatment of her father. She asked to remain celibate as a result of her faith, which both of her parents accepted. Her younger sisters were thus wed before her.
She was sometimes teased for her rather androgynous behavior, working ‘men’s jobs’ and being her father’s preferred child rather than his sons. Some people teased her saying she would play the man’s role and get with a woman due to her disinterest in men and behavior. (Which is true as she is a lesbian, but didn’t accept it until much later). She didn’t let the teasing get to her though and was known for being peaceful and just.
She was extremely diligent and always got her work efficiently on time, and sometimes helped her father at the inn he owned.
Her father wasn’t the most well-liked man, and some people said Laura and her mother were into witchcraft. (Those were just rumors, and Laura didn’t let the insults go to her head and made sure to protect her family’s honor.)
One day however, on March 31 1760, she was out herding cattle in a clearing, where a werewolf attacked her. She was bitten on the forearm and her lower stomach was scratched. Some of the villagers heard her cries and drove the beast away, and tended to her the best they could. No one believed her story of the werewolf, believing it to be just a very agressive wolf. It was all downhill from there to be fair.
(I will divulge her full backstory in a later post.)

By skills I’ll assume you mean both powers and everyday skills ?
Werewolf skills:
Immortality
Superhuman Senses
Superhuman Strength
Superhuman Durability
Superhuman Speed
Superhuman Reflexes
Regeneration
Impenetrable skin (at the exception of silver)
Transformation (into a werewolf)
Invulnerability
Intangibility
Self-Disintegration
Extreme pain tolerance
Her skills are about the same as Hans’, at the exception of her greater durability and truly gigantic wolf form.
She is a very powerful foe, and that is why Alucard decided to recruit her. He sometimes tries to pick fights with her due to her being very powerful but she turns him down, as she isn’t interested in the thrill of battle like Alucard is.
Everyday skills:
Excellent cooking
Organisation and cleaning
Knowledge in literature, theology and psychology
Sharpshooting skills
First-aid and basic construction
Basic sewing and darning
Driving
Unbreakable will and determination
Most of these (aside from the cooking, cleaning, and ‘book’ knowledge) were taught after she was recruited into Hellsing as part of her maid training (as well as being polite enough to be hospitable)
Despite her general grumpiness and disdain for being alive, she is pretty well-mannered and still maintains some old-timey language.

For the DADWC: "... Are we okay?" for Anders?
Happy DADWC, Ann!! 💙💙💙
for @dadrunkwriting
Tumblr media
“If your door is open tonight, I’ll know you -”
“Wait.”
Anders’ heart sank.  It had been good to be true, but at least he’d know what it was like to kiss him.  Justice, remember that.  He turned away.  “Sorry, too much.”
Garrett touched his chin gently.  “No, that’s not - Bloody Maker, I’ve been wanting you to do that for years.”  His voice was soft.  “But there’s - I have to tell you something about me first.”
He let Hawke tilt his face up to look at him.  Hawke had literally faced down dragons and been less afraid than he looked right now.  “What could -”
“You might not want to come to the mansion tonight," he whispered, then licked his lips.  "I - Anders, I've only told . . . I told Bethany, and then she died and I thought maybe Mother wouldn't mind another daughter but that was awful and now she's dead too."
Daughter?  "Hawke, what are you -"
"I'm a woman," Hawke rushed out.  "At least I - on the inside.  Outside is a man.  Tried to magic that away when I was twenty - Bethany had to stop the - anyway, I . . ." He - she - trailed off and scratched at her beard as she looked down.  "I haven't . . . I don't know if you'd still want - if you knew, that is, but I . . ."  She started to turn away.  "I can't lie about it anymore, even if it makes everyone call me a monster.  I - sorry.  Shouldn't have -"
Anders caught her fingers.  "I do, sweetheart. Want you."  He pulled her hand to his lips.  "It's you I lo - want, not your body."  He frowned.  "I mean, I do want that too, but I -" he wiped his face, desperately searching for the right way to say what he meant, and praying what he meant was the right thing to say.  "Hawke.  I love you.  Man, woman, or both or neither.  Okay?"
She blinked at him in surprise.  "That's it?  I said, 'by the way, here's a deep dark secret' and you're - you just say 'okay?'"  She blinked again.  "Love?"
He kissed her fingers.  In for a silver,  in for a sovereign.  "I am literally possessed," he whispered.  "I have no room to judge who or what you are.  All I know is I loved the man, and now I love the woman."  He wrapped his arms around her and rested his cheek on her shoulder. "Are we - is that okay?  To -" he swallowed nervously "- to love you?"
She swayed slightly in his arms, exhausted and probably overwhelmed.  "Only if you say it properly," she mumbled.  "With my real name."
"G-" he stopped.  "What is it then?"
"Marian."

I was taking an analytical look at the “I wish there was a war” letter to Stevens, and I've come to think it's one of the most noteworthy letters from Hamilton in his childhood.
Tumblr media
—condemns me and would willingly risk my life tho’ not my Character to exalt my Station. Im confident, Ned that my Youth excludes me from any hopes of immediate Preferment nor do I desire it, but I mean to prepare the way for futurity. Im no Philosopher you see and may be jusly said to Build Castles in the Air. My Folly makes me ashamd and beg youll Conceal it, yet Neddy we have seen such Schemes successfull when the Projector is Constant I shall Conclude saying I wish there was a War.
Firstly, look at how tightly knit his words are. It could be that Hamilton didn't think he would have enough time to get all his thoughts down, or that he would have more to say. But this is extensive, even for other letters from Hamilton around this time. I personally think it was excitement, and the thrill as Hamilton contemplates his future.
But what's most considerable is where Hamilton's priorities lie, and how these never really changed through his life. Hamilton obviously knew his greatest chance of earning the stature and respect he wanted was to fight in the military. But it wasn't just the fame and love that Hamilton wanted, he wanted to be an idolized hero. I always wondered why he just never became a merchant. It was in the field of possibilities; living in a literal national trade system, already having experience helping his cousin Anne trade, and having a pretty good education and literacy. Hamilton was even very efficient with money and economics, which is why if he had just gone on to become a merchant even in the Carribean or just elsewhere; he would have made thousands. Like make the success his dad never did. If Hamilton joined the Revolution only to earn his social status amongst the higher-ups, it makes no sense for him to be praying for a war back in '69. If it was wealth and stability Hamilton wanted, it wasn't like it was out of reach.
But no. What Hamilton wanted was more. He wanted heroship, and glory. So really, Hamilton wanted to be known as a hero, he wanted to be that dashing name you read about in historical battles. Ultimately, Hamilton joined the war for the worship of his heroism. And I really believe this was his way of healing the wounds of being a bastard child born out of wedlock. From day one, he would have witnessed the persecution his mother was treated with for her tainted name as a “whore”. And even after that, him and James were but bastard children that no one wanted. Shoved through homes with no family sparing them anything in their wills, it would have been evident and in their faces James and Hamilton were unwanted illegitimate kids. So, Hamilton's recovery from this? What's his drive for all this ambitious spirit? Hamilton was literally this nerd ass main character who felt he was “destined for more”, who idolized the men in heroic battles he would hear about and wanted to emulate such. This was his way of recovering from being an unloved child. Hamilton's way of proving himself to all those that undermined him, degraded him down to nothing but a “whore's son”, or considered him too frail and ill.
It's even evident when he does join the revolution, as I said, these ideals stayed with him. Hamilton could have easily gotten status if he just remained as Washington's aide. Hell, he could have done the same if he was Greene's or Knox's aide. But that isn't what Hamilton sought, he wanted the veneration of a war hero, because he wanted to fight and be known as just that. It's clear he loathed the secretary position, more than just because of Washington's berating. And it's even evident moreso later, where yeah, being Treasury Secretary was nice, but he continuously returned to the army for the Quasi-war or to be inspector general.
Basically, Hamilton didn't just want wealth and status, he wanted fame and to be a hero.

I've seen quite a few people posit headcanon names for the Wii boxers so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring for shits and giggles!
Explanations for the meaning and some history behind their names and stage names included too!
Glass Joe: Joseph Fournier-Proulx.
Joseph means "He will add" in Hebrew. Fournier, while literally meaning 'oven' in French, is equivalent to the surname 'baker' in English. Proulx comes from the Old French 'preau', meaning 'valiant' or 'brave'.
Joe has two surnames because of the fact that his father vanished shortly before he was born. Because of their father's absence, their mother put a lot of him and his sister's documents under her maiden name (Fournier) mostly to keep their father's family from getting involved with them.
Joseph had a middle name when he was younger, but when he changed his name during his transition, he dropped it. He never liked having a middle name at all and thought it make his name too cumbersome.
He mainly uses Fournier on non-significant documents, but prefers to sign Fournier-Proulx on everything else.
Von Kaiser: Wilhelm Raskopf
Wilhelm comes from William, which itself comes from Willehelm, literally meaning 'will helmet', but could be interpreted as 'desire to protect' or 'desiring protection'. Raskopf means 'quick headed' and derives from a nickname.
Wilhelm's younger brother is named Wilfried (Desiring peace), both names chosen by their deceased mother.
He goes by 'Helm' while his brother goes by 'Fried' or 'Freddy' to close friends.
He doesn't have a middle name, but always like the idea of making it Alida (Nobility), after his mother.
Disco Kid: D’Andre (Enrique?) Tawfeek
D'Andre is a black American name meaning The Andrew, Andrew itself meaning 'manly' or 'masculine'. Enrique is the Spanish variant of Henry, meaning 'home ruler'. Tawfeek is an alternate transcription of the name Tawfiq meaning 'good fortune' in Arabic.
D'Andre prefers people call him by his full first name, but allows close friends to call him 'Andy' or 'D-anne', in the case of his beloved uncle.
Because his uncle was kicked out of the family, his parents died when he was an infant, and his name was changed by a foster family when he was a child, neither he nor his uncle are sure if he has a middle name. However, he is very set on 'Enrique' being his middle name and nothing has shaken him on that.
Despite the name change, he refused to go by his new name as a kid. He remembered his first name and changed it back once he was adopted by his uncle.
King Hippo: Ariinui Teheiura
Ariinui is a Tahitian name that means 'noble and big'. Teheiura is a Tahitian name meaning 'the red crown'.
Ariinui's island, called hippo island in English, is very close to Tahiti and shares a very similar language. The two islands share a lot of name overlap as well!
He has no idea why people make jokes about his last name, but doesn't like it nontheless.
Prefers their name the be shortened as 'nui', if it's shortened at all.
Piston Hondo: Akahiko Kawaguchi
Akahiko is a very rare Japanese name meaning 'red boy' or 'red prince'. Kawaguchi means 'mouth of the river'.
Technically, he's the 4th Akahiko in his lineage, but doesn't put a number behind his name because the last Akahiko was 2 generations back.
At one point, during a punk phase, he considered renaming himself 'nuclear waste' in Japanese. His sister knocked some sense back into him but he uses that name for most of his private online profiles.
When he was younger, the rarity of his name was very embarrassing and he wished he was named Yoshirō (Righteous son), after his father. Nowadays, he feels much better about his name and thinks it's cool.
Bear Hugger: Orson Fisher
Orson is derived from the French 'bear'. Fisher comes from the German Fischer, meaning 'fisherman', and is a Jewish name as well.
Orson doesn't like comparisons to Orson Welles and finds it pretty annoying. He won't be mean about it but he will be very passive aggressive if you do it more than once.
His stage name is partially inspired by his first name. He was afraid it was dumb at first, but it grew on him a lot.
He has a Hebrew name as well- Dov ha-Rav
Great Tiger: Samir Raj-Singh
Samir is a Sanskrit name meaning 'wind' or 'air'. Raj is Sanskrit for 'king', while Singh is Sanskrit for 'lion' and is given to all male Sikh followers as a surname.
He's perfectly fine with being called 'Sam', but tends to find people assume his name is Samuel because of it. This annoys him, but not as much as people assuming he must be Hindu because his last name is Raj.
He uses two surnames because his grandfather couldn't decide on whether to change his surname in accordance with Sikh practices or to keep his surname. It has caused Samir a bit of paperwork trouble, but overall, he likes how double surnames feel.
Don started calling him Mimir (Spanish babytalk for sleep) as a joke, which eventually turned into a silly nickname used by the entire major circuit.
Don Flamenco: Donato Gallardo
Donato means 'given' in Latin. Gallardo means 'gallant' or 'elegant' in Spanish
Don almost never goes by Donato, feeling it's too formal for his relaxed lifestyle and personality.
The name 'Flamenco' came from a joke by a family friend, who called Don and his father 'senior Flamenco' because of their dancer-like elegance as matadors.
His middle name was going to be Ariel (Lion of God), but his parents decided against it when The Little Mermaid came out, leaving him the only one of their children without a middle name.
Aran Ryan: Aran {Redacted} Ryan
Aran- the Irish name- comes from the anglicized name of the Aran Islands, whose name is of unknown meaning, though it may come from the Old Irish word ará, meaning 'kidney'. Ryan is anglicized from Rian, meaning 'little king'.
The name he uses for himself is the same as his ring name, however, it is not his legal name! His legal name is a deadname which he vehemently protects from anyone who didn't know him before transition. He hasn't been able to legally change it for a variety of reasons but has however, decided to keep his middle name, even if he never dares put it on legal paperwork.
He will violently manifest in your house if you joke that his name is the Irish word for bread (arán). Aran is very emotionally attached to his name and such jokes press on a very tender nerve regarding his native language and his identity.
Initially, he was going to spell it as Árann, the Irish name for the Aran islands, but a combination of people constantly mispronouncing it and misspelling it made him change it. People still mispronounce Aran as Erin, though, and he's given up correcting them.
Soda Popinski: Ivan Valentin Polyanski
Ivan is a new form of an old Slavic variant of John, meaning 'god is gracious'. Valentin comes from Valentine, meaning 'strong', 'vigorous', and 'healthy'. Polyanski means 'from fields'.
Though a lot of people make fun of his middle name, he was never effected by it and finds it quite charming.
The name 'Popinski' came from a boxing announcer misreading Polyanski- Ivan found the mistake absolutely hilarious and chose to base himself on a soda theme because of it.
Ivan frequently has to correct people on the pronunciation of his name- it's pronounced almost exactly like even in Russian.
Bald Bull: Halim Uysal
Halim means 'patient', 'tolerant', and 'mild' in Arabic and Turkish. Uysal means 'docile', 'easygoing', and 'mild' in Turkish.
Halim is very protective of his name around press for the sake of his privacy, especially when in New York. He will even go so far as to sign things as 'Bald Bull' to not dox himself.
Him and his parents get a kick out of the irony of his name. As a child, he was far more calm and timid around press but adulthood stripped what patience he had away and replaced it with anger.
Uysal often auto corrects to Ulysses (Latin form of Odysseus, meaning 'to hate'), which led to it becoming a sort of code name by the world circuit to protect him. Mask-X is a similar code name which turned into a stage identity of it's own.
Super Macho Man: Tyler David Harris-Levine
Tyler comes from the word 'Tiler' as in someone who does tiling work. David is a Hebrew name meaning 'beloved' as well as 'uncle'. Harris means 'son of Harry', which itself means 'home ruler'. Levine is a Jewish name, from the name Levi, meaning 'joined'.
Though David is technically his middle name, Tyler prefers to use it as a second first name. When writing it out, you'll be lucky if he has any consistency with what firstname + surname combo he uses.
He accepts any shortening of Tyler, with some of his cousins even calling him just 'ler', but hates when David is shortened to 'Dave'. He'll only correct you once before he starts getting serious about it.
His Hebrew name wasn't given to him at birth because his mother wasn't sure if she would raise him with Judaism and his dad wanted him to have a choice about anything regarding religion. Either way, his Hebrew name is David he-Levi.
Mr. Sandman: Michael Alexander Ali
Michael is a Hebrew name meaning 'Who is like god?' as a rhetorical question. Alexander comes from Alexandros, meaning 'defending men'. Ali is an Arabic surname meaning 'lofty' or 'sublime'.
The name 'Sandman' comes from his family and friend's shortening his middle name to 'sandy'. He's used to all kinds of weird nicknames so if you call him it long enough, he'll respond to just about anything (Including Jackass, which the rest of the world circuit calls him affectionately)
Though Mike shares his name with his deceased great uncle, and his mother swears she named him after said beloved uncle, she and his father actually got inspiration from Mike Tyson.
His Hebrew name is Mikha'el ben Adi.
Little Mac: Mackenzie Louis
Mackenzie is anglicized from the Scottish name Mac Coinnich, which means 'son of Coinneach', which itself means 'handsome' or 'fair'. Louis is the Latinized form of Ludwig, meaning 'famous in battle'.
Though people constantly bug him about having a girl's name and have told him to change it to be more 'manly', Mac can't bear the thought of parting with the only thing he has left of his parents.
He is Mac ONLY. If you call him 'kenzie. You. will. die.
His original surname is a mystery, so he was named 'Doe' in his foster records for a while. After Doc adopted him, he took on his last name.
Doc Louis: Jerome Zachary Louis
Jerome is Greek, meaning 'sacred name'. Zachary comes from Greek, meaning 'Yahweh remembers". Louis is the Latinized form of Ludwig, meaning 'famous in battle'.
Some people pronounce his name as 'Jeremy' which he does not understand.
He considered giving Mac his middle name after adopting him, but decided against it.
He got the nickname 'Doc' because he worked as a medic for the wvba before entering the ring as a professional.

Hallmark’s Sense and Sensibility
Yes. YES. All I've ever wanted was an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility where Mr. Dashwood is white, Mary Dashwood is Black (or another race), so that the sisters are mixed and it causes even more tension between their older white half-brother and his wife.
As a mixed girl, I’ve been begging for this version of the story to be told.
I can't believe Hallmark is the one to do it, but I am ready and excited to watch.
Hmm... is Fanny mixed... is internalized racism going to be an issue for her too? If so, I am here for that.
Edward is Fanny's stepbrother... I don't think that was the case in the book. But I infamously hate Edward so maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention to him. (It's a change)
BONNETS. They have bonnets! They have natural hair (probably wigs but still, natural textures), and bonnets. I am actually super happy about the costuming so far.
Ok I might like this Edward... We'll see. We're not at the part where he makes me mad. But right now... he's ok.
"Right kind of woman" ok girl. Sure.
I really liked that scene between Mrs. Dashwood and Elinor, while Margaret played the pianoforte.
Oh Col. Brandon. Already smitten. I do have one complaint though: Mrs. Dashwood is supposed to be about 40, to make it so Col. Brandon being 35 offputs Marianne even more that he's close to her mother's age. But this Mrs. Dashwood (who I really really like so far) is being played as much older than 40.
YES CURLING RAGS. And am I crazy but are some of Marianne's clothes kind of leaning to wards 1820s transitionary styles? I sorta love that if that's the case.
OK Willoughby... ok. You cute. I love this "Who are you?" thing we got going on.
That painting of a Black man in Georgian-ish clothing. Someone remind me to look it up. I love the framing of this shot with Brandon and Willoughby, and the painting between them.
God I adore Mrs. Jennings. In generally but I really like this one.
God, fuck Willoughby. I always forget how much I hate him.
"A daughter." No no no you're supposed to say "natural daughter." Come on.
Oh poor Willoughby, what a coincidence he's called to London, while Brandon's already in London, dealing with an issue involving his "natural daughter." Such unlucky timing...
I can't wait to see Steele sisters. I hope their hair is blonde, so there's no doubt that the hair Edward has is NOT Elinor's. God. This is what I wanted from a S&S adaptation.
OOH the Miss Steeles are Black too! Ok. Ok. Fanny you absolute hypocrite.
OH MY GOD. THE PAINTING OF DIDO ELIZABETH BELLE IS IN THE BACKGROUND. Oh my god. I literally just squeaked. No random family would have that painting hanging, especially with the cousin cut out only showing Dido but STILL. And adding the fact that I once found an Amazon listing for an Austen novel using the cousin Elizabeth as the portrait and cutting out Dido (and also that the portrait is from 50 years earlier) made me so mad. This little easter egg of including Dido's portrait in this movie is like HEALING that specific moment's pain for me. Oh my god.
This adaptation, is far too good. It's so much better than I thought it would be.
Ah yes, the constant talk of "beau"s from Anne.
YES THE LOOP ON THE TRAIN.
This Lucy is diabolical. I don't think I remember her being so... almost mean. Annoying yes, but mean? Hmm...
Love all these Black paintings. I wonder if Juan will show up, though that's a Spanish painting not English.
Miss Jennings has white servants. Love it.
I think they made Robert worse.
"And I always keep my promises." You tell him. I thought I was going crazy earlier, that a song sounded kind of pop-ish. But they're playing Kiss From a Rose right now on a string quartet, so they're going full Bridgerton with this. I didn't want to accuse it earlier, but now I must.
Ugh. Willoughby.
MRS. FERRARS IS BLACK. FANNY YOU SUCK. You're giving us light skinned mixed girls a bad name.
Edward didn't want to be in the same room as his main and his side chick. I forgot about the Mortons. He's got 3 girls. This is why I dislike him. And I really think this movie ended up playing up Robert Ferrars' personality in a way I'm not sure I liked, he was always charming but I don't think he was this rude.
Ok Marianne. You're not wrong. But I don't remember that. It's been over a year since I last read S&S, I really need to brush up on it I guess.
Wasn't Eliza married to Brandon's brother and then cast aside? I really need to brush up. However, god I'm reminded of how much I love Austen.
Well I enjoy this Edward's embarrassment a lot.
Ooh Fanny. I don't like Lucy but do not call her a peasant.
Ok fine, point to Edward. I will concede that this adaptation is doing a good job of making the watcher feel for Edward. I still dislike him the most of all Austen husbands.
This is truly a great Elinor.
They've been so careful with having everyone in gloves. And now Edward is thanking Elinor, taking her hand, and no one is in gloves. I see you costume department, I see you.
Yessss loose hair moment.
Oh my god, I always love Col Brandon when he says he won't rest until he brings Mrs. Dashwood and Margaret. Every single adaptation. It makes me so emotional.
Wow ok. This version is a very good Edward, a very good Elinor, a very good Marianne, a very good Brandon. Even a very good Willoughby. I can't believe they really made me actually want to forgive Edward. I usually still am salty towards him by the end. That alone makes this pretty amazing.
Costumes were fun. A little bit crazy but honestly sometimes Austen adaptations don't go crazy enough with the costumes. Minus some fit issues with the empire waists (same issues that Bridgerton is plagued by) and some weird closures in the backs of some dresses, it was really well done costume wise.
And I was surprised that race was not as much of an issue as wealth, though I still think that Fanny and Mrs. Ferrars had some colorism issues in there.
Really my only issue with the movie is that they didn't make clear how old Brandon was compared to Marianne. And I have some concerns about Robert's characterization. That's really all I can complain about though.
Dare I say... that Hallmark somehow created... my new favorite Sense and Sensibility adaptation...

So it’s hard to tell because we don’t know what Aaravos’ intended endgame for Viren is (if keeping him alive is only to be a way to control/motivate & aid Claudia, or if he also needs Viren for something else still) but I’d very interested to see if like, the parallels between Viren-Callum with Aaravos come full circle in regards to like... more than living past the end of your use (which again, if Aaravos doesn’t need precisely Viren anymore) as much as it is living past the end of your Story.
Because in many ways, that’s what S4 is, by design. Arc 1 wrapped up most things (other than Viren’s survival, and the coins) in a pretty neat bow. Ezran is reinstated as king, the villains are defeated, Rayllum exchange I love yous, Soren is fully on team good guy, Zym is returned to his mother. Happily ever after.
But then S4 says “The story doesn’t end here, there is further to go, there is more to lose, there is more to grow.” Except S4 is doing the opposite  to S3, because it’s setting up an Inherent Tragedy (S5 and S6) also by design, because no matter what anyone does in the next phase of this story, every action will ultimately still lead to Aaravos being released.
Because Aaravos also lived past the end of his story, multiple times. The Startouch elves left. Elarion fell. He’s faded into myth and obscurity, to the degree that Viren, who is obsessive and well-read, had no notions of his name upon hearing it. Aaravos is the otherwise voiceless narrator in S1; silent in S2; a dual prisoner in S3; and then just a glimpse of a fallen star in S4.
[to live past the end of your own myth is a perilous thing - anne carson]
All of this to say: if Viren has outlived his literal usefulness, and is now just a full means to an end, I wonder what that says about Callum. Not just for the ramped up S4 parallels, but also the likelihood of whatever plan Aaravos has in mind for Callum coming to fruition in S5. Of course, Aaravos’ plan for Callum could go later than that (S6 latest I’d imagine, given that S7, the kiddos have to triumph) but I think it’d be interesting as well if like
S5 is that blow, of Callum - no matter what he tried to avoid it - playing into Aaravos’ hands to help him get out, because Freedom associations. Aaravos turning over one pawn (Viren in S3) for the sake of another, only to turn him over again (Callum in S5). Callum, like Viren, living past the end of his own story. Callum living past the end of his use, his role to play, past his part in Aaravos’ story.
And then, of course, coming back in S7 to not only rewrite the story, but to entirely gain narrative control.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY (21/11/2023)
In her poem MAN-GOD, Volume I, a mystic and an Italian author Maria Valtotra narrates her conversation with Jesus about the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a dramatic manner. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, little Mary, at the age of 3 expresses her desire to be presented and dedicate her life in the temple. It was little Mary, who was keener in spending her entire life in the presence of her creator. Though there is no historical evidence, but traditionally believed that barren Joachim and Anne, had promised to present their first-born child in the temple if they bear a child. It has been done when Mary was a little child. This traditional practice has been followed in the Eastern Church since 6th century. In 16th the century it became a feast of the universal Church.
Though it cannot be proven historically, yet Mary’s presentation has an important theological purpose. It continues the impact of the feasts of the Immaculate Conception and of the birth of Mary. It emphasizes that the holiness conferred on Mary from the beginning of her life on earth continued through her early childhood and beyond. From the beginning of her life, she dedicated herself to God. She herself became a greater temple than any other man-made temple on earth. God came to dwell in her in a marvelous manner and sanctified her for her unique role in God’s saving work. At the same time, the magnificence of Mary enriches her children. They—we—too are temples of God and sanctified in order that we might enjoy and share in God’s saving work
The Gospel reading of today is taken from St. Matthew 12:46-50 looks strange to the readers as it literally shows degradation in Mother-Son relationship of Mary and Jesus. We must read this passage, keeping Jesus as someone who wanted to build the kingdom God that is beyond human understanding. Jesus did want to limit himself only on blood relationship, rather he wanted to embrace the whole universe as one family. His biggest mission was nothing but to establish the reign of God. Everyone is expected to be included in this extended family of Jesus, provided they listen to the word of God and follow them. In this condition, Mary is the first person on earth to be included in Jesus ‘universal family, because she not only listened to the word of God, but bore it in her womb and pondered over it (“and his mother kept all these things in her heart” Lk. 2: 51).
What does the feast of the Presentation of Mary in the temple mean you personally?
Can you imagine the days of your baptism and confirmation in the church?
How do you prepare yourself to be part of extended family of Jesus?
PRAYER:
Lord my God, we thank you for the gift of our Blessed Mother, the first temple of God. We thank you for reminding us of our baptism and confirmation (to some of us our religious consecration and ordination). Make us worthy day by day that we may listen to your word and keep them in our day to day living, so that we become members of your extended family as Mary did. Bless and complete us in Jesus’ name, Amen.

You know what? For some reason I imagined that Reader (Henry’s 8 sister) is different from other women, like: wearing man clothes, sword fighting and interested in weapons, good at politics and economy and war, also nobles and commoners are respecting Reader. Reader is respected and feared, no one dare to insult her or even harm her. Even Henry isn’t safe, whenever his sister shows disapproval or disappointment, he feels ashamed.
In other words, Reader could become a Queen, but she was not interested in it. That doesn’t mean she won’t be at court advising the King, whenever he needs it. Also Reader has a good relationship with Henry’s wives, but she’s disappointed in him, and she won’t allow him to execute them. And she has a good relationship with her nieces and nephew, raising them under her wing, not allowing anyone insulting them. Hell, remember one scene, where One-eyed man (I can’t remember his name) told Mary “If you were my daughter, I would have bashed your head”? Yeap, he won’t get away from it, because when he turns around to leave Mary, he meets Reader, who later punished him so hard, that he’s even afraid to be in the same place with Mary. This includes anyone, no one dares to hurt Mary, Elizabeth and Edward, the same goes for Henry, because he’s not safe from his sister’s wrath.
But despite that, Reader loves her family, and since she won’t allow Henry to execute his wives, she probably set a meeting for mothers and their children. After Henry’s death, she takes care of his children.
(I don’t know why, but I imagining Reader and Henry’s wives (Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, Jayne Seymour) have a romantic relationship).
The woman Henry respects and fears most in life is his sister. Henry's literally kicking his ass. She is the protector of all her nephews. For her nieces she is literally the mother chicken. She does not allow any spouse to be executed, she. She makes her hrpsini live happily away from Henry. I think she is in love with the reader in the three spouses whose names you have written. I'm guessing there will be a secret romantic relationship between them.

Guinevere / Margaret Elyse Iuscora: Guinevere is the name she was given in her origin life, while the second one is what she was given in her second life. Guinevere means “fair, white, blessed.” This name comes from Arthurian Legend, which is an inspiration for the wos universe. Margaret means “pearl.” Elyse, her mother’s name, means “God is my oath.” Her surname Iuscora is made up by me, but it signifies her family’s archangel ancestry.
Theodore James Grayson: Theodore means “gift of God,” which works out perfectly for his origin; his adopted mother believed he was left behind by one of the angels and therefore was meant as a gift to her since she was unable to bear her own children. James means “supplanter.” Not quite sure if that fits anywhere into his story. His surname Grayson means “son of the reeve” (a local official, in particular the chief magistrate of a town or district).
Elizabeth “Ella” Ann Hart: This isn’t her birth name, but rather one she chose when going into hiding. Elizabeth means “God’s promise or God is my oath,” though she has a complicated relationship with her religion. Ann means “grace, He has favored me” and it’s also accepted as a religious name. Her chosen surname is Hart, which means “stag.”
Alexander “Alex” Louise Ryder: Alexander means “man’s defender, warrior.” His first name was a placeholder until I liked it so much that it kinda stuck, but it’s surprisingly rather fitting. Louise means “renowned warrior,” and I just so happened to choose it because I thought it sounded great with the name Alexander. His surname, Ryder, is a variant of Rider so it literally means horseman or horse rider.
Penemu Zilyana Nightingale: I came up with the name Penemu years ago, but upon looking it up, it turns out that there’s actually a being in Enochian lore named Penemue and he’s “a curer of stupidity in man” (according to Wikipedia). Since she has the nicknames Pen and Penny, I decided her name was a variation of the name Penelope, which means “weaver.” Zilyana is also a made up name, but the closest match I could find was Zilya, which means “hunter, harvester, guardian.” The surname Nightingale means “someone with a good voice,” as this species of bird is known for its beautiful song.
Elisven Luina Skylark: The name Elisven was also made up by me, but it’s a variation of Elizabeth which means “God’s promise or God is my oath.” Luina is the name Luna (with an i) which means “moon.” This was also her paternal grandmother’s middle name, and Luina is the name of the moon goddess in Aetherian mythology. The surname Skylark possibly comes from a type of European lark, a bird renowned for its ability to fly vertically up into the air.

It’s been two weeks so let me get this off my chest;
Why the fuck did they include Maggie in All In. Why did they include the racist white girl whose only purpose is to be racist towards Anne. For a show that’s mean to uplift Thai people and make them feel comfortable in their own skin by telling their story, it’s EXTREMELY tone-deaf.
And for what?! Because I guess Maggie is ‘popular’ amongst people who completely missed the point and the writers wanted to reward that? They STILL had Maggie get Anne’s name wrong, too! Matt Braly why the fuck did you allow this. Why did you let this happen and have Maggie STILL get Anne’s name wrong; Something clearly meant to be seen as a racist move. This show is meant to make Thai, as well as asian kids in general, feel welcome.
It’d be one thing if Maggie was an actual fleshed out character who unlearned her prejudices and truly apologized, who had other aspects to her character besides being racist. But she’s not. She literally had no personality nor role beyond bigotry, and fans latched onto that for same damn reason and I GUESS the crew rewarded that antithetical type of move that goes against the very show’s message. Hell they even reinforced it because I guess Maggie calling Anne “Boobchuy” isn’t meant to be viewed as negatively anymore; It’s not a funny quirky detail it’s blatant racism, or was at least HEAVILY IMPLIED to be, which I then question the decision to reframe Maggie’s misnaming by All In.
I also find it questionable how our protagonist of color ‘gains the approval’ of her racist bully by saving the world, because it reminds me too much of centrist morals where minorities and the oppressed have to justify their reason for existing to their oppressors. Maggie’s fans don’t have to worry about being called out over her character’s racism because she suddenly likes Anne now, they’re validated because the racist white girl fans have been thrown a racist white girl bone by the crew, Maggie is less problematic now!
In interviews, Matt made a BIG deal about the alienation aspect of being Thai in America, and Anne learning to appreciate what her parents struggled with after being the only human in Wartwood. There was the implication that Anne didn’t recognize Maggie’s racism as such, and it’s by Season 3 when Anne finally listens to her mother’s discussion of being Thai in an unfamiliar world, that she really understands.
Maggie’s stupid-ass cameo just feels like an appeal to the lowest common denominator, a legit betrayal of the show’s message that is meant to combat such xenophobia by celebrating Thai heritage, and I hate it. Matt said he was baffled by Maggie’s popularity and I felt bad for him because I thought he clearly had stronger words than that but didn’t want to come across as ‘mean’, but then he allows this to happen?! Did his own crew somehow override Matt on this already tasteless cameo made even worse by its execution or what!? What kind of message does this send?
