I am Karen, and I have recently rediscovered my love for the Cure. I'd say that I'm sorry, but I'm not really. Also expect some Star Wars, a lot of Adam Driver, a lot of Dessa but also some Doomtree, Person of Interest and/or LOST when I'm feeling some type of a way about it, and Glee (because the icon has changed but the love never dies.) OH, and a metric fuckton of politics because the world is ending and I'm fucking mad about it.
Tags to know at this time: #the darkest timeline and #we stay and we fight are my current events tags. If you need to block them -- well, no wonder. Running posts are back and will still be tagged #fighting fish blogging. Daily poems are tagged #365 and #poetry. Most everything else should be tagged at least by fandom. Wild Mood Swings is underrated. Pass it on.

It's things like this that make me still have hope for humanity after all.
Dear Slovaks, please know that we see your effort and we're incredibly grateful ❤️
You know, there's a lot of countries that joined this amazing Czech initiative and I'm grateful to each and every single one of them and to Czechia for organising this. But there's something to be said about people who's government refused to join in and who said "You know what? We'll fucking do it ourselves. Remember who the real power is." I just love this so much and tearing up a little from this.
Honestly, I think my biggest moment of linguistic pride lately has come from realizing I was reading Latvian subtitles on a Latgalian song, and it wasn't just closed captioning. I'm starting to match up the written with the spoken! Enough to go... that's not quite right.
The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

I come back
sometimes
to where Tony
left us
that place where the void
is never not calling
and you just block it
as best you can
for as long as you can
but it's easiest
I find
if you listen to
the world instead
because the world is never
really silent
all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.
Not sure what's funnier -- someone complaining about me to my assistant manager, or them lying about what I said to them when he was in earshot the whole time.
One of the funnier things about getting older is watching people complain about how the new popular musicians are so much more juvenile than the old popular musicians and the fact that this music is so much worse than the stuff people used to listen to shows how society is decaying, blah blah blah...
but as an old folks, I remember the shit that was popular back in my day, and it was not inherently better than T. Swift, I promise you.
