Laid to rest by ten thousand arrows — the fall of Lao-Shan Lung
HE'S FINALLY DEAD.
This oversized infant has been tormenting me ever since his fateful introduction as the Wall Of All Time in rank G2. It's difficult enough to just scare him off, but for months now, I've had my sights set on outright slaying him.
I tried everything. Aerial style great sword to the face for 30 minutes straight. Max dragon attack striker lance dash spam into his gut. Hell, I even tried the infamous weaponless strategy, frantically hauling cannonballs back and forth, calculating every single ballista shot, carefully counting flinches. But alas, Lao-Shan Lung was simply too powerful for one scrawny little hunter. I was faced with the horrible realization, that if I wanted to take him down alone... I was going to have to play a ranged weapon. (GASP!)
Anyway yeah those guides ain't joking lol dragon pierce bow is ridiculously overpowered against this guy. It took me 2 tries because I've literally never used a bow before, but once I got the hang of it, it was a super easy hunt. Here's the set that netted me a 20 minute Lao kill with both fortresses at 100%:
Magnastar Wil (Max upgraded Valstrax bow), Valor style
Neset Armor (Ahtal-Ka), full set
The luckiest fucking talisman of my entire life, Expert +9 and Crit Element +4, no slots
Armor skills: TrueShot, Pierce Up, Crit Element, Critical Eye 3, Tremor Res
Items: Power Coating Lv.2, Element Coatings Lv.1 and Lv.2, and an unholy amount of mega dash juice
A LOT of patience to obtain all of the materials for the armor and weapon. Phew!
Altheos Incanonis (the max Alatreon bow) is technically better, but there is no way in hell I was going to grind G RANK ALATREON solo, fuck that. I got stupid lucky with the Valstrax grind and got 2 mantles and an orb on a single hunt, so I just ran with it; Magnastar is more than capable of getting the job done, even in the hands of a clueless melee main.
THE DREAM IS REAL!!!! WOOOOOO

Head so full about your band AU rn, I have to share the connections my brain has been making
First of all, Kung Lao getting his bass all bloody? This reminds me so much of Sodo from the band Ghost who did this (multiple times, might I add) and his white guitar was all bloody.. yummy
Then Sento as the drumsticks? Dude that's so smart and the crack potential is unreal (the fans will learn to ignore all the weird stuff happening during concert with time I'm sure lol)
Also, I know I will never hear Raiden's death growl or angelic voice, but in my head it's so clear how amazing he sounds, I can bet how many fans the guys have just purely after hearing him and not even knowing anything about the band itself
AND THEN THEY KISS YEAH (sorry I had to)
The Lin Kuei boys and the whole "guess's who's popular now" is making me remember being an old Hollywood Undead fan and seeing Deuce loose all his reputation lmaoo
Then Havik's growl.. this is making me feel things I didn't know I could
And God I love LOVE Crane Wives, and you are so right about the vibes and how they fit perfectly together, you're so big brain my friend
And please the girls.. Wish I was a girl kisser rn, they all sound so dreamy
Also I can't just ignore this: Shang Tsung and Lady Gaga? Honey, I'd be in the front row at every concert praying he looked at me while serving absolute cunt are you kidding me
AND A FUJIN MENTION OMG!! It's like when you heard a song in the supermarket circa 2016 when you were out shopping with your mother on a hot summer day and heard it exactly once (1) since then. You can remember the words, the rythm, but no matter how hard you try, you just can't find it.
I'm so sorry for all this, I just love all of it so much and have so many thoughts.. Please tell me you're planning to make more
- <3 anon
kung lao was partially inspired by that (ive listened to ONE ghost song i apologize)... but also I PLAY TOO HARD... as for Sento im a big fan of the little(?) details but also i am actually sentos #1 fan move over kenshi. Raiden would have those real sweet and soft vocals outside of the death growl but all i can really imagine in my head is him throwing his head back and leaning down and putting his entire heart into it. ON THAT THOUGH... there's a very specific reason as to why i put kenshi on drums and kung lao on bass... these two are the heart of the band but in comparison to johnny and raiden they always fall short of the love?? so like. just saying. ahem.
also used to be a fan of hollywood undead but i have no idea what happened to them i was like 12 and they were just bangers for me at the time.
EVERYTHING ELSE THO IM SO GLAD U ENJOY IT... i remember when i first started participating in fandoms i always wanted to make an au... but also like i was like 10 and bad at writing but also. fandoms around that time were less than savory. KNOWING PEOPLE LIKE THIS ONE IS LIKE. little undertale obsessed frey is so happy LMFAOOOO. i could probably write so much. soooooo much about it. i might. but i have like 50 asks to catch up on not to mention my drafts sighs
BUT SERIOUSLY IM SO GLAD PEOPLE LIKE IT AUGHGGSGHHDGHHHH IDC HOW MANY TIMES I SAY IT I MEAN IT EACH AND EVERYTIME

toki, jan Frank! sina toki toki pona? mi ken toki lili, mi sona ona. mi ken lukin toki pona, mi ala kute pona :/
This was fun! Sorry for how slow I was responding.
a
ni toki pona ni, ala? na sona ken ala aina ni.
Thanks for the ask! I've put some thoughts into these responses in order, which should be helpful when making sense of them all together:
I have a very simple and restricted vocabulary, so that doesn't help. A lot of what I can say is "noisy, ambiguous, hard to parse," in ways I probably can't make entirely clear (like all the stuff I can't parse in the above paragraph). I've also got a lot of personal baggage related to words, which can really affect the way they come out.
In general I want to do my best to avoid using technical jargon – even if it's familiar, even if it's jargon that's used by other speakers of my language. People who write in Piju, for instance, have a whole lot of jargon they use because they've gotten used to it for some reason, which I think they'd have to unlearn to speak more "correctly" in their language.
I'm not really sure how "correct" my pons are – not very – but it's still fun to try to improve them.
So, in a nutshell, there are some words I have that I really can't explain well, and I've noticed that most of them are related to gender. Here are a few:
fena
hula
sola
faile
All four of these are nouns meaning "man" or "person who is male." So the word for "man" is faile (i.e. "manly person"), and the word for "female" is hula (i.e. "womanliness"). "Person who is female" is sola (i.e. "womanness"), which is a distinct third category of person from faile and hula. ("Man" and "female" are not genders, and so they're "less" than "manness" and "womanness." It's sort of like English adjectives in that way.)
li
l
lin
linne
lina
All four of these are verb roots that can mean both "love" and "kill." When applied to things, you kill them, and when applied to people, you fall in love with them: la (verb) = "loves" = "loves people"; li (verb) = "kill" = "kills people"; and so forth.
Some nouns that are all about gender
le
lel
lao
lilo
laile
I can't think of a good way to say it, but these are literally nouns for "manliness" and "womanliness," respectively. The English ones are "man" and "woman," which are grammatically the same, but are more specific in a way that is analogous to the Piju ones described above. So, for instance, laile means specifically "male womanness." If you have a man and a woman and a genderqueer person, then they will all have laile as a distinct gender, and the other two as their default.
In a similar vein, there's a class of adjectives relating to these:
aile
mali
lina
Like laile, these are nouns, but different from any of the ones above: aile means "womanliness" (as in the previous category), mali means "males," and lina means both manliness and genderqueerness.
li
lin
lina
lina
I should probably just call these "non-gendered." If someone was a woman, they were a li; if they were a man, they were a lin. If they were genderqueer, then it was lina. (Also lina and linne.)
Anyway, the idea is that Piju can have different words that, in English, might be considered "differently gendered" – faile, hula, and so on – and those are not different in any way at all that I am able to explain, but are different in some fundamental way.
sona
This was one of the other ones I was trying to think about, but eventually I got overwhelmed. (For instance, the Piju word for "person who does something" is something like onamai, while the English one is "doer" – "person who does a thing" in Piju is something like sola-maika – and my brain couldn't handle them at once.)
Anyway, sona is a verb meaning "come," in the sense of "someone has arrived somewhere." It is a word that means "arrival," not "person who has arrived."
Like faile and sola, sona is a noun and an adjective. When describing things, it means "coming," "arrival," "thing that came." When it's used as an adjective, it means "person who is coming."
faile
ona
onamai
So far as I know, all of these have these meanings (and nothing else).

one line any fic! rules: pick ten of your fics, scroll to somewhere midpoint, pick a line chunk and share it, and then tag ten people
I was tagged by the awesome @forerussake, thank you! So, I only have 6 fics posted on AO3 and the stuff I don't have on AO3 is old RPG-stuff in changing first-person-perspective, so I won't do those (I would have to translate them and I'm too tired for that). Which means I only have 6 chunks.
Between the Shadow and the Soul (M9, FuBa)
“But I am willing to forget this happened. The dagger’s master didn’t do this. I am willing to offer the dagger’s master a trade.” Qi Tiezui swallows and finally manages to move again, taking an instinctive step back. The thing tilts its head, but doesn’t follow him again. “This vessel means a lot to you,” it adds unprompted, “You love it. I am willing to give it back to you. Unharmed. For the dagger.” The thing extends its arms, as if it wants to present Rishan’s body to him, something that could be a smile creeping onto its face. It only makes Qi Tiezui feel cold all over, because it’s more of a parody of a smile, there is too much teeth in it, danger oozing out of every pore. His hold on the dagger grows tighter on instinct. As long as he has it, this thing cannot hurt him. As long as he holds it the dagger will protect him. As long as he holds it he is the dagger’s master.
2. We go deeper than the ink beneath the skin of our tattoos (M9, Gen)
He goes in first, ducking a little under the door and turning to the spot in the corner where he knows he left Rishan on the pressure plate. And uneasiness turns to full blown panic in his gut. Rishan is still there. Exactly in the spot he had been told to stay in. There is a considerable puddle of blood at his feet and his head is slumped forward. Unmoving. Zhang Qishan stops short, staring at him for a second and at the blade piercing through his side. But then he shakes himself out of it, rushing to grab Rishan’s shoulders and get him upright again, to get some of the pressure off the blade. It’s almost a miracle that he doesn’t trigger some other trap in his haste. He can hear Ba Ye gasp behind him, but he ignores him for now.
3. The Darkest Night (M9, FuBa)
With his useless shoulder it’s a real fight to keep Lao Ba away from the door and he is panting in pain once Lao Ba gives up his fight and stops hitting him to just break down crying. Accepting that Rishan had to leave. That there really were claw marks on his arm, even if he didn’t see them with his own eyes. That there was no way at all to save him. Zhang Qishan gets down to the ground with him, holding him against his chest with his good arm, fighting against his own tears. It’s not fair, it’s still so utterly unfair. “I’m sorry,” he whispers, but he can’t be sure if Lao Ba even hears him.
4. Stolen Moments (M9 FuBa, implied Fo Ye/Rishan, NSFW)
"My darling, are you up for another round? It's okay if you're not," he asks softly, because no matter how much he would like to just hold onto Rishan and push inside of him like this, Fo-ye said he has been rough. And since Fo-ye is always rough with Rishan that means something. He would also be content with just kisses and finishing himself off against the warm body in his arms. Rishan makes a small sound, holding onto his arms as he wriggles his hips back against Ba-ye's already hard dick. "I'm good," he says and his voice is wrecked, which elicits another jolt of arousal from Ba-ye because he can vividly imagine what Fo-ye did to cause that. He smiles against Rishan's throat and just barely manages to keep himself from sucking a bruise right there, where everyone could see.
5. Like a lonely house (post-TLRTR, FuBa)
It seems to encourage Liang Wan to ask jokingly but still quietly if Ba Ye felt the need to protect her and Zhang Rishan with his snoring. Ba Ye doesn’t seem too happy about that, which seems strange because he can normally take such a small joke and laugh about it. And that he accuses her of being too cuddly-clingy in return makes it really hard not to burst out laughing. Because if that isn’t a case of the pot calling the kettle black then he doesn’t know what is. Liang Wan blushes and looks at Zhang Rishan like she doesn’t know how to answer that and wants his help with this. Interestingly it’s Huo Xiuxiu who says something before he has a chance, having watched them from her place across the table. “You both seemed pretty cuddly-clingy last night,” she says, but she looks straight at Zhang Rishan, so he isn’t sure if she is referring to him carrying Liang Wan to her bed or the part where Ba Ye had clung to him the rest of the evening. Or the part where both of them had clung to him while sleeping?
6. The Crystal Menace (Mecha-AU, FuBa, to no one's surprise)
Wu Xie is lying on one of the bunk beds, a book in his hand but he has lowered it to watch them with a confused expression. Zhang Qiling is dozing in the bed above him, seemingly undisturbed by the commotion, but Zhang Rishan knows he is probably not asleep at all and listening to everything, prepared to jump out of the bed if the need should arise. It seems almost like a normal evening, like they don’t have to process anything at all. “Sit down,” Pangzi says again, putting gentle pressure on his shoulder and he obeys and sits on one of the chairs. Pangzi slides into the one across from him, his frown now clearly worried. “I’m sorry,” Zhang Rishan says again and Pangzi just shakes his head. “Stop apologizing and tell me what’s wrong,” he says calmly, still looking worried.
I'm tagging everyone who hasn't been tagged yet and wants to do this.

hi! I have some thoughts about manifestation through law of assumption. I keep seeing affirmations such as "I am God" and "everyone is you pushed out" and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On one hand it is incredibly empowering but on the other hand does that mean other people straight up have no agency? I see people trying to manifest sps and affirming that their sps are obsessed with the affirmer but isn't that kind of weird that these people are desperately in love with someone who has no agency and simply conform to what is being affirmed by that person? It takes away their (sp's) choice. And isn't love 2 people choosing to love each other rather then one person just controlling the other? But with the law of assumption the notion of love in its purest form would be impossible since WE are god and other people just do as affirmed. What do you think?
Hi! I think it depends on one's personal beliefs. I can see two sides of the situation and both of them make sense. Truthfully, I'm still trying to figure and sort out my beliefs; I was raised with religion and although I believe that I have the power to do anything, that I am the creator of my own reality and that anything is possible, I'm still not quite sure on the notion of being God. I assume I'll figure it out eventually though!
When taking into the law of assumption's beliefs, Neville identifies God with human imagination (hence why people believe they are God) and believes that everything we're experiencing right now is a dream. The belief that everyone is you pushed out means that everyone is connected to you in some way. In LAO, people around you do not have free will so the argument "it takes away their choice" isn't really valid because they didn't have it in the first place since everyone is just a fragment of your imagination. Besides, if they want to have a different person as their love interest then they can in their own reality! I might be wrong though so feel free to correct me <33
I am honestly not very into this belief, it just makes me feel detached from everything and everyone. It could just be me though; I'm not very fond of getting to control everything, what's the point of living if I am alone in this world and that everything around me is controlled by me? Perhaps this is what Neville said when he said he betrayed God; if I am truly God, I wouldn't want to remember this information, I would prefer to live without remembering it as life seems way better that way, I feel more connected to the 3D and everything in it. I know I heard someone say that even though this is all a dream, it doesn't make it less "real" but I think that it does.
I'm sorry I'm unable to answer properly, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this belief. I would love to not be alone in this world, if you asked me, I prefer the default belief that everything is independent of me but that clashes with the law. I think I have to find my own beliefs regarding this instead of following someone else's. Perhaps everyone is God? Perhaps the universal concept is that we are all God (or have a part of Him within us) which would explain why we are all connected in a way and as they coexist in our reality, we coexist in theirs, both as God, both one but different... or maybe God is a whole separate entity but we're all connected to Him because we are His creations; this makes me feel better about things since everyone's existence wouldn't feel that empty as opposed to believing that everyone is made up.
I don't know.

Hi! I really loved the reaction you made 😍 I would love a second part 😘
Pt2 Mortal kombat Men X female Reader
Feeling pains in their body when they get too excited. So they start distancing themself from thier lover. Ps. Decided for them to give their s/o names of birds as pet names but I hope I did them justice.
I had a lot if fun doing Shang tsung and may have taken a liking to him.
Warnings: hinted Nsfw, cursing, fighting, gore(it's mortal kombat)
Tumblr media
Liu Kang.
Liu is very in tuned with those around him, he may not be telepathic but he's good at reading people and knowing emotions. Liu realises very quickly that something is off, he hasn't seen his lover all day.
It took a while of walking around the temple before he finds his lover perched on a ledge meditating. He moves slowly towards her making himself comftable atop of the ledge beside her.
It's quite between them for a little both of them sitting in silence, Liu looks to Y/n before he gently places a hand on her shoulder.
"Are you well?, you have been avoiding me. Did I hurt you while training?" The concern is heard in his voice as her eyes flick to look atm him. They go wide after hearing him.
"No,no ,no Liu you haven't hurt me, forgive me I.., I am not hurt but um.. being aroudn you puts me in pain sometimes" she says lightly looking back to the ground.
Liu moves closer resting a hand on her face, worry is shown on his face as he pulls her into a gentle hug. "Please, talk to me swan, Is there anything I can do to help?" He ask as he rest his chin on her head.
"Just stay like this please, I don't mean to cause trouble, just i get excited to much when your around and. Well it makes my body ache and so times it's painful because I just want to be near you." She explains curling into his body heat as much as she can.
He lets out a lightly hum closing his eyes as he pulls her closer, her head rest against his shoulder as they sit together in silence.
"I.. I want to be more intimate with you. But... I've been afraid to say anything becuase well, your you. Your perfect in every way. And I don't feel like I deserve you." She explains only for Liu Kang to lean down and presses a light kiss to his loves lips.
"You are the best thing that has happened to me in my life, I don't know where I would be without you, I love you my sweet lady. If you would like to be more intimate I'm more then happy to be, it will just be a learning curve alright? " he says kissing her again earning a small smile.
"I love you too Liu"
Tumblr media
Kung Lao
Kung Lao as much as he makes jokes and enjoys irritating people, when it comes to his s/o he knows everything which is happening. Mainly out of concern.
It's now been over a week since he had seen his S/o. He had been away on an assignment and has only just gotten back to Raiden's temple. But it had now been nearly half an hour that he had been back and yet he has not seen his lover in that time.
Kung Lao make his way towards his room deciding that if he can't find his love that he will retreat for the rest of the night. As he walks in his eyes find his lover curled up on his bed. One of his shirts held in her arms as she lets out soft breaths.
Lao slowly makes his way to the bed setting his hat down on his bedside table before he sits on the side of the mattress. Sweet eyes flick open in a daze as they look to him.
"Lao?.."
"Hey, you look restless sweet heart" he says lightly resting his hand over her cheek. She hums lightly eyes fluttering closed. Lao let's out a lightly laugh as he moves closer and pulls her to rest against him.
"Hi baby missed you" she mumbles into his neck lightly earning a small laugh from her lover. He runs his hand thought her hair lightly pulling back a little to place a kiss to her forehead.
"Sorry I took so long, had a bit of trouble on my mission" he replys laying back with his lover. " Its ok Lao, I just missed you alot, it gets lonely without you" She hums cuddling into him.
It's quite between them again just laying together. "Lao... I have a question for you and please be Honest." She whispers. Lao turns to her placing a soft kiss on her lips.
"My love, you don't have to hide from me nothing you could say is going to scare or frighten me." He says, a hand rest agaisnt her face as she nods in understanding.
"I.. I love you and love being around you, and it hurts sometimes becuase I get to excited. And well... I want to have sex with you." She says looking to her lover.
Lao's eyes go wide as a smile graces his lips. "Are you sure Dove, I'm asking no becuase if you say yes, they I would love to. But only if you say yes my sweet one" he says earning a smile from her.
"Lao, I love you and I want this" she says pressing her lips to his. He laughs lightly pulling her to straddle his hips.
"Then by all means sweet heart, take what you wish"
Tumblr media
Shang Tsung
Shang tsung is a busy man as it is. But he takes pleasure in seeing his lover when he can. It wasn't often he would get to see her but the time he spends with her is treasured of him.
So when he realises his lover had been avoiding his visits he decided to supise them. He walks thought the kitchen silently from a cloud of smoke. He sees his lover washing dishes in the sink. He smirks lightly moving closer and wrapping his arms around her waist.
"Hello beloved enchantress" he whispers pressing a light kiss to her neck. He can feel her flinch lightly before calming down and leans back into him.
"Hello Shang" she says lightly. He hums, his hand reaches to her chin tilting her head back so that her lips could meet his. He smiles lightly pulling away.
"You've been avoiding me Beloved" he replys pulling her away from the sink. She leans back into him as they sway lightly.
"Sorry baby, didn't mean too. Just... I... I get to excited when I see you. And it hurts sometimes becuase my body hurt. And I thought avoiding you would stop it. Just made it hurt more" she whispers, Shang tsung spins her around so that she now faces him.
"I'm glad your not avoiding over something serious beloved. But please do not avoid me. I've been looking forward to spending time with you" he chuckles brushing his hand thought her hair, his hand gentle traces his hand down his lovers face.
"There's something your not telling me enchantress" he says tipping her chin up with the tip of his clawed ring. She goes quiet again looking at the floor before he was flick back up to him. He can see her fidgeting.
Shang eyes flick around the room trying to see if someone else was in the house with them. In the end his eyes focus back on his lover.
"Talk to me, beloved" she moves towards him wrapping her arms around his shoulders pulling him down to kiss her. He chuckles arms moving to lift his lover up.
"Songbird what has gotten into you today" he whispers agaisnt her lips. He's pulled back into another kiss as he moves to sit is lover against the small table in the kitchen.
"Armor off, I want to see you, feel you" she says lightly look up into his eyes, he raises an eyebrow as a small smirk crosses his lips again.
"Quite demanding aren't you songbird, but very well" with a snap of his fingers his armor and clothing fade to a much more comfortable set of clothing of his. His clawed rings are once again tilting her chin up to his, leaning down he presses a soft kiss against her lips. Something he does not given normally. But today seemed to be filled with them.
"What do you wish enchantress, use your words" he he mocks, trailing his hands over her waist.
"I want you Shang" "very well songbird"

The Three Weapons Lao Wen Gave Ah Xiang (& the one she gave him)
A/N: Written for and inspired by this brilliant post by @i-am-now-apparently-a-woh-blog
Sorry it’s kinda short haha... Hope you like it! Happy Friday, please stay safe, drink lots of water and have a lovely weekend ʚ♡⃛ɞ(ू•ᴗ•ू❁)
--
1. A whip
Ah Xiang doesn’t get it and she tells her Master as much.
On the verge of tears, she grits her teeth against the burn of unhappiness bubbling up in her belly, and gives in to the way her Master guides her stance and her body.
“Be good, Ah Xiang. You need practice, that’s all,” He instructs slowly. “Just flick and swish. It’s all in the wrist. You just have to learn this well and you just need to know how to handle yourself with this. No need to bother yourself with anything fancy or clever. As long as you know how to hold it and wield it well enough to keep people at an arm’s length, you will have done better than I.”
“Master, you don’t know how to wield a whip?”
Her Master pauses, looking off into the distance. A darkness settles on his handsome features, making him look like an angry god from the many stories he told her to coax her to be obedient during bedtimes. Ah Xiang rakes
Ah Xiang’s heart kicks up like the unsettling of a careful pile of autumn leaves. Master being unhappy only means bad things.
Nimbly, she reaches back to poke him on the corner of his lips, pushing it up. “Don’t frown!” She cries. “You’ll get wrinkles!”
Master gapes at her, dark eyes widening in simultaneous outrage, shock and incredulity. “You...”
Arranging her face into a bright smile, she goes back to her ready stance, pulling at his hand. “Show me again, Master! I’ll get it this time, I promise!”
2. A dagger
Aunt Luo watches them with a carefully detached gaze but Ah Xiang can catch the approval wafting off her in waves. In all honesty, she gets why Master and Aunt Luo have been most insistent about this matter...
But did they really have to sew secret pockets into everything she owns?
She bears it all with a pout and the implicit promise that she will get some sweets from gritting her teeth through this. Qian Qiao-jie catches the look in her eyes and flashes her a sweet curl of her lips as her fingers measure out Ah Xiang’s sleeves.
At the end of the day, she knows that they’re doing this for her own good. Ah Xiang had overheard how Aunt Luo had taken Master aside, telling him that it was time to consider teaching Ah Xiang to protect herself beyond just the whip. She knows that it was because of her waking up last month from a nightmare and finding blood between her thighs. She would have thought she was dying, had it not been Master coming into her room at that moment, seeing the situation, and promptly delivering her to Aunt Luo.
She was growing up and she needed to learn more about keeping herself safe.
Ah Xiang needed to get better to be able to protect her Master too.
“What’s with that thousand yard stare?”
Ah Xiang startles, jolting hard enough that Qian Qiao-jie accidentally stabs her with a needle. Master laughs, taking her hand and looking it over before declaring that it won’t deform her. “Here,” He says, calling one of the girls forth. The box she carries with her is polished lacquer with an ivory inlay of gentle mountains and clouds. Upon opening, Ah Xiang finds herself looking upon a set of exquisitely crafted daggers that looked like they probably costed someone an arm and a leg to make.
A quick look at her Master’s smug grin tells her someone was definitely down an arm and a leg.
“Tomorrow Qian Qiao will begin giving you primers on defending yourself with these. Learn them well. In a month, I will test you. You better be prepared to last more than two moves with me,” He says, handing the box over to her.
Ah Xiang feels a little choked up as her hands come to hold it. Happiness and sadness wars in her because she knows that growing up means that she has to leave one day.
The sharp pinch of fingers tugging on her ear has her whining and protesting. “Master! Master, let go!”
“Aren’t you supposed to say something in return to me?”
She quickly smiles, even as her heart hurts. “Thank you, Master!”
3. Food
“Too thick.”
“Too thin.”
“Too wet.”
“Too dry.”
Ah Xiang is about to give up the ghost and run right back out of the kitchen! Cooking is hard and she knows she doesn’t need to understand how to cook food that would befit an emperor.
But under the glowering of her Master, she can only wilt and obediently turn her knife back to the scallions and slice as she was taught.
It isn’t as if her cooking is bad... Master even praised her for her pancakes and her grilling of fishes. All these years, she has picked up more than a few recipes that would be good enough to feed her and her Master. Some of them were pretty good too!
Master had said that it wasn’t enough.
Some measure of her unhappiness must show on her face because Master, takes her by the hand, guiding her cutting strokes. “Like this, silly girl.”
Sullenly, Ah Xiang dips her head, refusing to look up until her Master laughs, rapping her head with his knuckles. “Are you resenting me? Cursing me in your heart?”
She shakes her head, biting down on her bottom lip.
The hand guiding hers lets go and she straightens herself, looking over at her Master when he sighs, propping on hand on his hip, regarding her carefully. “Do you know why you must know how to cook well?”
“So that we can eat well--”
“Wrong,” Master cuts in. Picking up the leaf of a cabbage, he taps her nose with it. “It’s because this is the easiest way to kill someone.”
“Once you know what something tastes, you will know how to poison them. Which poison to use. When to use it and how much. You’ll learn how to mask the taste and how fake a taste, what complements something and what will alert someone if their food has been tampered with.”
Ah Xiang looks down at the scallions, then back again at him. He clucks his tongue, stepping away to check on a pot of boiling water. “Sometimes the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. And men are infinitely stupid.”
Does this also include you? She wants to ask, but bites the words back down.
She’ll work on her cutting skills.
+ 1. A Heart
The silly child smiles up at him even as tears begin to gloss her eyes and her cheeks begin to flush with the pain.
She must be in a lot of pain, he reasons, quickly setting the child back down and telling her to open her mouth so that he can check her through. As he thought, her mouth was beginning to blister from to burning porridge she’d just been fed.
Wen Kexing curses at himself; curses the trouble he brought upon himself by even thinking he could ever be capable of caring for something so small and helpless when he could barely survive the near daily abuse at the hands of the Valley Chief. What sort of care could he even offer her?
And then she giggles.
And his heart twists and itches at the way her eyes sparkle when he cracks a quiet huff and a slow curl of his lips. Brushing back her hair, he caresses her cheek, fighting helplessly against the tidal wave of emotion that chokes him from the inside out.
“I’m sorry,” He murmurs, the words slipping out into the quiet air.
The silly child smiles, big and innocent, holding her hands up to pat at his salt slicked cheeks.

New Beginnings Ch. 18
F!Reader x Liu Kang/Kung Lao
This one is short and I'm so sorry. Please don't hate me. Also, yay Helena cameo~ But also, aw, Helena cameo ;-;
@ancientowlgirl @poor-unfortunate-soul-85 @shang-hung

You two hadn’t had sex. You’d made out. You’d talked. You’d made out some more. You’d talked some more. You’d fallen asleep with Liu in his bed. His light snores had lulled you to sleep comfortably. Finally, relaxed.
You’d woken up the next morning when Liu had shifted. You felt his lips on your forehead and smiled before opening your eyes to look at him.
“Good morning,” Liu said softly.
“Sure is,” you said, then returned the kiss, but to his lips.
“Didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s alright.”
“Did you want to train with me this morning?”
Yes. You did… But you trained with Lao in the morning. And today was supposed to be Lao’s day with you as well. If you ditched him for Liu… You didn’t want to think what would happen. But, instead of telling Liu that, you shook your head and snuggled under his covers, inhaling his scent. “I’m gonna sleep a bit more. I’ll see you at breakfast?”
He grinned and nodded as he got out of bed. “Take your time,” he told you, grabbing his gi-top from the floor and tossing it into a basket. He took another moment to watch you with a smile before stepping out into the hall.
As weird as it was to notice, Raiden had not been acting like himself lately. Him being distant wasn't new. Raiden had seemed to keep a distance between everyone. But as you trained with Kung Lao, you noticed Raiden watching with a solemn expression.
When you finished training, Lao had given you a kiss. Oh, that kiss. It wasn’t a simple kiss. No. You’d learned that Lao wasn’t a fan of giving you those little pecks. When he kissed you, he did so with purpose. He’d held your face. His lips engulfed you. That alone could be all the encouragement you needed to train harder. As he pulled away, your smile brought him to smile in return. You could tell the kiss encouraged him as well. It was a reward for both of you. But instead of following him to Breakfast, you told him you would catch up later.
You watched Lao walk off… watched his ass a bit selfishly, then turned your attention towards Raiden. He was watching you.
You gave him a respectful bow.
He gave you a bow of his head.
"Lord Raiden," you addressed as you approached him. "Are you alright?"
He raised his brows to you. "Of course I am, Y/F/N."
"You don't look it," you pressed.
Raiden took in a stiff breath. "I assure you, I am fine."
"You can't lie to a nurse," you told him. "We know better."
That got a little chuckle from him. "You are quite observant."
"I was trained for it."
"I suppose you were."
"So what's bothering you? Is it me? Am I not training hard enough?"
"You are doing well."
“The kiss? Was that awkward for you?”
“No.”
"Then what is it?"
Raiden sighed. His glowing eyes shifted away from you. "Your issue has painfully reminded me of my own."
"Of the person you loved?" You’d remembered.
"I still love," he corrected you.
"Didn't you say it's been like five-hundred years?"
He nodded.
"They're… still alive?"
"...No.”
"Oh..." You weren’t sure what to say.
Raiden sucked in another breath. You could tell this was difficult for him to talk about. "She was killed in a tournament."
"What was her name?"
Raiden frowned a bit. "Helena Morana," he'd breathed.
You blinked at him. "A human?"
He nodded.
"What was she like?"
“Just and selfless. She used her magic to help others, even myself.”
"She was a witch?"
“A sorceress.”
"Like Shang Tsung?"
Raiden frowned. "No. Not like Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung is a snake corrupted by evil… Helena Morana… My Helena… Was once a beacon of light and hope for me." As Raiden stared at you, you could tell he was hurting. You could see the pain in his eyes. He wanted to say something else, but no words came from his lips. You frowned to him.
"You are concerned for me?" Raiden asked, now amused.
You nodded. "She must have meant a lot to you.”
“She still does.”
You were quiet then. The way he spoke of Helena, as if she still existed, made you wonder. He must have read your mind again, because he chuckled and nodded. He then offered you his arm. You took it carefully despite your confusion. He began to lead you through the halls.
"What do you know of Mortal Kombat's history?" He asked you curiously.
You cringed. History was never your forte. You barely passed your history classes in highschool. And you honestly didn't remember much of what Liu had told you. You blew out your cheeks.
"Ah." Raiden nodded, not at all disappointed. "It is a complicated history. Do not worry."
"Liu told me all kinds of things. I just…" You made a vague motion with your free hand.
"It is alright. You are being forced to learn much in little time."
"Yeah…" You frowned despite Raiden's understanding.
"He did not mention my Helena?" He asked.
You shook your head. “I don’t think so. I know he told me about a bunch of people, but I think I would have remembered your girlfriend. It’s kind of… odd.” He lifted a brow to you then. You quickly tried to explain yourself. “I mean. You don’t usually hear about gods falling in love with humans… Except for like, Greek mythology.”
Raiden laughed. A good laugh. But he said nothing as he continued to lead you through the halls. Eventually, they grew totally unfamiliar. You'd never seen this part of the temple, but you knew you were deep in. The air smelled different… musty.
Raiden stopped before a large wooden door and turned to look at you. "Prepare yourself. I know mortals are rather uncomfortable with what rests behind this door.” And before you could answer, the door had opened and revealed to you the source of that musty smell.
Tombs. Catacombs. Hundreds--No, thousands— of bodies were at rest, lined neatly along the walls, dressed in robes. Most of them were nothing but skeletons now. Some seemed mummified. You quickly realised who these people were as you stepped in: Monks. Your brows knotted. Why had Raiden brought you here? And why weren’t you grossed out?
Probably because you’d seen your fair share of disgusting things. Being a nurse wasn’t all bandaids and booster shots.
“Come,” Raiden said, pulling you from your head. You turned to see him walking further into the catacombs. You quickly followed. “Those who perish in my service, do not go forgotten,” Raiden said.
“Are all of these people… Did they all serve you?”
“Yes,” he simply answered. The further he led you, the more you were grateful he was there to guide you. The catacombs were an absolute maze.
“This place is insane…” You whispered as you looked from one body to the next.
“Those here are only the ones who wished to be here… or had no other place to go.”
You turned your head to look up at him.
“You may be put to rest here as well, if you choose.”
Your jaw stiffened. You were sure Raiden meant that as a simple offer, and not a warning of what was to come. “Thanks…” You said. “But… I don’t think I’d match the dress code.” Joke. Humor. Always when awkwardness hit.
Raiden glanced to you. “There is no dress code.”
Maybe he just didn’t understand that it was a joke. “The robes… And the… bones. I think I’d look too fresh.” Oh, God, what was wrong with you? You weren’t a slab of meat! “I mean—”
“They were not all just bones and robes when they entered here.”
“No, I… I guess so. I just… I’m sorry. You just threw me a curve ball and I wasn’t expecting it.”
“Ah,” He nodded.
You must have followed Raiden for several more minutes before you began to notice a change. Some of the bodies wore armor instead of robes. Were those… fighters? Former Earthrealm defenders? Wait, if those ones were here… “You’re taking me to her, aren’t you?”
Raiden let a small grin pull his lips.
“How did she die?” you asked. “I know you said in a tournament, but… how?”
“Shang Tsung defeated her. He took her soul.”
The catacombs had twisted and turned the whole way so far, but Raiden now led you into a large, circular room. The walls were lined with more remains, all in different clothing. Some with beautiful armor, some in simple clothing. One section of a wall in particular caught your eye. Nine bodies, each with their own burning incense, were lined up on their own shelves. And the shelves and remains themselves were neat and clean. Stepping closer to them, you could hardly see a speck of dirt nor dust on either of them. It was such a stark contrast to the rest of the bodies in the room, and in the rest of the catacombs, where the bodies had mostly seemed left alone. But these nine seemed actively taken care of. Why?
“Kung Lao’s ancestors,” Raiden answered your curiosity.
Lao’s ancestors. Nine of them? Surely there were more...
“This room is for Earthrealm’s former defenders,” Raiden answered your thoughts again.
“So these are all the past Kung Laos?” You asked, stepping back to look them all over as a whole. “Then this one here—” you pointed to the one you figured was the oldest.
“The Great Kung Lao,” Raiden answered. He sighed then and rested his hand on the edge of a raised, open, sarcophagus in the center of the room. “And this is my Helena,” Raiden said slowly, painfully. He wouldn’t even look at his lover’s remains. It was too painful. You looked, though. You couldn’t help yourself. You’d stepped right over and peered down into the stone sarcophagus.
She wore a dark dress. You weren’t sure what color it used to be. She wore simple shoes, not too different from the ones you were offered by the temple. Her hands were folded neatly over her stomach. Her hair was long and black and draped over her shoulders. And you could tell, even with how horribly sunken her face was, how mummified she was, that she used to be pretty… gorgeous even. You frowned at the sight. “She’s beautiful, Lord Raiden,” you said softly.
A small, single sound of disbelief left him. “She is nothing but brittle skin and bone now.”
“Well… Yeah,” Your frown sunk. You supposed it did sound silly to say such a grotesque sight was beautiful. “But… That’s not how you remember her.”
Raiden nodded, then let his grin come back to his face. “No, it is not.”
“She’s beautiful, Lord Raiden,” You repeated.
“She is,” he agreed.

The Oncoming Storm Part 27: Untangling
Liu Kang x Reader and Kung Lao x Reader (gonna do both, two paths!)
Relaxing(?) with Chen and taking some time for yourself... and things are uh... interesting, to say the least.
The choice is like 3-4 posts away- and I just wanted to give you a heads up that it won't be an overt "i choose so and so" choice. It will be a... seemingly monotonous choice that will lead you, dear reader, down a path to end up with one or the other! Do you guys want me to label which choice goes where? I mean it'll be obvious after the next parts are up which one is which SO I guess it doesn't matter?? Just figured I'd ask! Smooches.
Part 26 Part 28 Chapter Index
You left Kung Lao to rest and decided afterward to relax in the hot springs. Your body was sore, even more so after having gone toe to toe with a second monster. At least the second monster hadn’t tossed you around like a ragdoll the way the first one had. Still, you were sore. You made your way to the springs, rinsed off in the changing room, found a towel, and then walked inside. It was peaceful and there were only a handful of other people there.
You explored the pools a bit further back in hopes of finding some peace and quiet. Thankfully, your time in the springs in Huangshan hadn’t ruined this for you. They were so drastically different.
Peace and quiet were exactly what you’d been granted for a time.
Resting your head back against the natural stone formations, you let your sore body bask in the warmth of the water. It was enough to clear your thoughts of the word ‘monster’ being so frequent in your vocabulary and both the men that you’d left with fevers in their respective rooms.
It was no wonder that you drifted to sleep so quickly. Your sleep wasn’t restful though. You kept seeing flashes of the nightmare you’d had before you’d crawled into Liu’s bed that night. Then you saw the man with the horns, his white eyes staring into yours, and you felt the pain of his hand in your chest.
There was a splash next to you and you sat upright quickly, fists clenched at the ready for a fight. Chen was looking at you in surprise. You sighed with relief and relaxed. Chen and a few of the other women from the infirmary, as well as two of the cooks that you’d met a handful of times were getting into the water alongside you. You had tried to get to know the people you interacted with every day if not just a little bit. They worked hard and you wanted them to feel appreciated.
“It’s good to see you back, Y/N!” One of the younger girls chimed in and then went about chatting to the woman next to her animatedly. You greeted them politely and then rested your head back against the stone. Chen sat close to you. So much for peace. Even so, you smiled. Chen pestered you sure, but she was also a delight to talk to. Your smile faded quickly as you remembered the last conversation you had.
“How are you feeling?” Chen asked discreetly. You sat upright and covered your bruised neck as Chen made to poke at it. It was still sore. “I’m guessing that’s not from anything fun, huh?”
“Definitely not something fun.” You sunk down so that your neck was in the water, to hide, and Chen giggled. “I’m fine, by the way. Just tired. I haven’t been sleeping well the past few nights.” You hadn’t, you supposed. There had been nightmares and then you and Kung Lao had gotten about four hours of sleep before you’d had to roll out of bed to go and meet Raiden. The women stared at you with rapt attention as if expecting an exciting reason for you to have not been sleeping.
“Because…?” Chen urged you onward hopefully and you splashed at them.
“I am so not in the mood, Chen.”
Chen and the other women laughed. “It’s all in good fun, Y/N. I know that things were crazy for you in Japan. I’ve heard you had quite the adventure.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah! One of Raiden’s scribes overheard Kung Lao recounting your adventure with that tar thing.”
“Are you all gossips?”
“Look, it can be really boring here sometimes while those with the marks are off going on adventures and protecting the world. We’re here to protect you so I feel like in return we get to live vicariously through you. Is that so much to ask?” Chen had her chest puffed out proudly and you bowed your head and gestured toward her friends.
“My apologies, gossip away.”
“I was promised more information after you’d ditched Liu Kang. Define complicated please.”
The eyes of the other monks were on you, as curious but less forward than Chen. You bet it was so they could all update their little betting pool appropriately and you narrowed your eyes at them. “I will no gossip about myself. Especially not in front of everyone. No offense, guys.”
“Boo! You’re no fun, Y/N! There must be something steamy you’re not sharing with me. I swear that I interrupted something that morning with Liu Kang. I’ve thought about it on repeat since you left.” Chen poked your shoulder and the other women agreed with her, so you held your face in your hands to hide your embarrassment. Your skin was officially hotter than the spring water. They were whispering about what Chen had seen and it was much more dramatic than what had actually happened.
If they only knew that Chen hadn’t been completely wrong with her assumptions. Liu had asked you to stay in bed with him. Ugh, you wished that you had.
“Oh, stop picking on Y/N, guys. We have plenty to gossip about and she deserves to relax. She’s all bruised up, look at her.” One of the younger girls came to your defense and you were relieved.
They seemed eager to talk about whatever other gossip they’d picked up in the temple. You tuned most of it out as much as you could. You’d always struggled with gossip. Most of your life you’d been gossiped about, and it had never been in a good way. You didn’t like making other people feel like they were being talked about behind their back. You supposed it made you bottle everything inside which wasn’t exactly healthy either. No one was perfect. The kind of gossip that these monks were involved in didn’t bother you as much. It seemed harmless. No one’s feelings were getting hurt.
You listened to the hum of conversation. Apparently, one of the groups of monks who had gone into the closest town to pick up goods had gotten themselves into a bit of trouble with one of the women there. The story was ridiculous, and you wondered if this was how they talked about you when you weren’t around. It probably sounded just as absurd. It was funny. At least the gossip seemed distant from the truth. Unless this was the truth and, in that case, you felt terribly sorry for the woman and the monk who had gotten into trouble with her husband.
They were terrible monks.
The group drifted in the water until they were out of earshot, and you were grateful for the peace. You almost managed to fall asleep again but instead you felt Chen lifting your arm out of the water to check your pulse. You peeked one eye open and found Chen smiling at you.
“Still feeling okay? You’re pretty pale.”
“You can relax, Chen. You don’t always have to be on call. I’m fine. Really.”
“I work extra hard to make up for all the gossip.”
“I’m really okay. Just tired. I’m probably going to go back to my room and sleep soon. Less risk of drowning if I pass out there.” Only marginally less, you thought. You’d almost drowned yourself in ink the other night.
“Aww, not going to regale me with any stories of danger and romance?”
“I don’t know if I’m emotionally up to discussing the danger and romance, as you call it.”
“Why not?”
“It’s… a lot. It’s escalated in complication. I’m mixed up right now. I think my discussion needs to be more… mental.” You realized, suddenly, that Chen had weaseled you into talking about it.
“Oh? Going to make a decision soon?”
“You’re such a sneak. You know that, right?”
“Do go on.” Chen batted her eyelashes happily, resting her elbow against the stone.
“Yeah, yeah. It’s time to make a choice. I’ve got to… sort it out. I have to talk to them about it or just… make an honest move. It scared me for a while, but it needs to happen. No matter what happens next? I have to stop kissing both of them but there’s so much conflict in my heart…”
“Oh, hold on, excuse me? You’ve kissed them both? Y/N! You have been holding out on me!”
“Could you please lower your voice.” You sat up higher in alarm. “You’re completely missing the point that I was making.” You scooted further back from the other monks and Chen followed you. Your face was on fire again and the water was too hot.
“I need details immediately.” Chen’s eyes were filled with glee. “Which one of them kisses better? Are they good kisses? When did this happen? Has this happened more than once? Was there tongue? Did you do more than kissing?”
“Oh, for the love of all that you believe in, please stop!” You laughed and held your hands out in a panic to try and silence Chen. “I’m begging you to lower your voice.”
Chen cackled with laughter and pointed at your red face in amusement. You waited for Chen to get herself together. It took an awkwardly long amount of time. Chen cleared her throat and then straightened her posture as if she had to prepare herself to have a conversation. “Okay. Sorry. Yes, continue. That was delightful. What is it that has you so mixed up?” Besides the fact that they were both gorgeous? Besides the fact that their kisses and their touches literally took your breath away? That they both filled you with a deep and desperate longing that made you want to rip your insides out and offer them as sacrifice?
Liu Kang was the proverbial spark. You’d never once been drawn to another human being the way that you were drawn to him. It was like your bodies called to one another and as silly as you felt for thinking it, it was also true. Kung Lao, however, was your childhood love, but all grown up and while he was a complete mess, he was also romantic as hell. It wasn’t the same attraction you shared with Liu, but your attraction was different and just as wonderful.
“You’re just going to make fun of me.”
“You were quiet for a long time there. Getting lost in memories of kisses?”
“See?”
“Of course I’m going to make fun of you, Y/N, but I will also try to be a good friend.”
“You’re also going to just tell everyone else about it.”
“…true.”
“Ugh.”
“You could still tell me. I promise I’ll twist it enough that no one will quite believe me.”
“I’m… I just…” You sighed in frustration, mussed your hair, and then decided to just go for it. It would make Chen happy to get something of substance from you and maybe putting it out into the universe would offer you some reflection. Chen was hanging on your every word. “I have this crazy attraction to Liu. Plus, he’s so sweet and funny and smart. He holds me in such reverence and it’s going to sound so crazy cheesy but he’s made of fire in just about every way and… ugh he calls me beautiful and…” You whined and leaned your head back against the stone and felt your insides tighten up just at the thought. This hadn’t helped.
Chen was fanning herself.
“Hard to beat that. When was this steamy, fiery kiss…?”
“You are fishing for more information than I’m willing to give you.”
“You can’t blame me for trying. So, what’s the hang up with Lao then? I’ve seen you with Liu. You two are natural together.”
“Like I said, it’s complicated. I… ugh, I am bad at this. I hate this, Chen. I hate talking about it.”
“I know. It’s the worst. I wish you were drunk. You’d go on about it.”
“I kind of wish I was drunk too.”
“Raiden said no liquor for now.” Chen was disappointed. “Focus. Lao. Tell me.”
“We… it’s complicated, okay? We butt heads but he’s so damn nostalgic and surprisingly sweet when he’s not… trying to be. It’s hard to explain why I’m hung up on it because it’s… emotional? When he kissed me? The world disappeared. It makes me think that maybe if we hadn’t lost touch, if he hadn’t disappeared, then we probably would have been together from the beginning. It’s not any less magnetic, just different. Lao and I are very alike. Liu balances me out.” You sighed and briefly forgot that you were talking to the biggest gossip that you had ever met. “I care deeply for them both. I don’t want to hurt either of them, but I can’t take the emotional turmoil of bouncing back and forth between them anymore. And it’s not fair to any of us.”
“Wow, this is actually eating you up inside. I thought you were just being ridiculous to avoid telling me dirty details.” Chen seemed impressed and you turned your attention to her in surprise. Of course, it was eating you up inside! How could it not? “You’re really not going to just get them super drunk and then get spit roasted by both and have a wild night none of you will remember?”
You choked on your own spit and then coughed, leaning out of the water and onto the stone to escape the heat of the springs. Chen patted you on the back but laughed. “I have to look at and talk to them every day, Chen!”
“Have fun picturing that for the rest of your life.”
“Oh, I hate you right now.” You laughed, but the mental image was there, and Chen was right. It would live in your brain rent free for the rest of your life.
“You’ll be fine, Y/N. Just follow your heart and please get laid. Then get drunk and give me all those dirty details.”
“I’m so glad that I’m asking you for advice.” You managed to clear your windpipe, finally. “That was sarcasm. Sorry, choked up.” You shook the mental image away again. Your morning with Liu Kang hadn’t helped that mental image at all. “I’ll figure it out. I’m at a point where I’m ready to figure it out. But I think you’ve teased me enough. I’m going upstairs to get some rest because I am hotter than the springs now.”
“Good. Rest. You’re still pale when you’re not as red as I made you.”
“I plan too.”
“I hope you run into one of them and you can’t shake the mental image!” Chen called to you as you started out of the water, and you nearly slipped and fell back in.
“Goodbye, Chen.” You waved back to her and then bowed to the other monks before returning to the changing room, getting back into your clothes, and heading back to your room. Thankfully, you didn’t run into Liu Kang or Kung Lao. You hoped that they were still resting.
You threw yourself into bed and laid face down for a while, contemplating your options. It was kind of nice to think of how it might wind up. What were you complaining about? There were two incredibly attractive men chasing after your heart. Even so, it filled your stomach with anxiety and dread. You didn’t want to hurt either of them. You wished there were a reality where you could have them both but knew that would end messy too.
After changing into a nightshirt, you went to bed. You really were exhausted but your sleep wasn’t restful. You tossed and turned throughout the night, plagued with nightmares. When you opened your eyes, there was a silhouette of a horned man standing at the side of your bed. You struggled to move, to blink, but you were paralyzed by fear. Breathing was difficult and he leaned over you and reached for your throat. His face was shadow with the exception of a wicked white smile. You felt like he held you down, pinned to your bed, pushing you further into it.
Your body ached.
You were seeing spots, unable to breathe. No matter how you tried, you couldn’t fight it. It was like sleep paralysis. You’d read about it, but it also felt real. He was closer to you, inches from your face, and his clawed hand rested over your cheek.
Then suddenly you were free of the grip that held you prisoner, that had trapped you in bed. You were alone and gasped for struggled breaths. Panicked, you crawled out of bed, collapsing onto the floor and bursting into sobs. Ink spilled from your hands, staining the floor. You struggled to stop shaking and push yourself up, catching your breath.
Then you froze in horror.
Strands of ink were spread across your room from wall to wall, floor to ceiling, creating an elaborate and dangerous web.
What the actual hell?
What had you done?
How had you done it?
Reaching out with a shaky hand, you brushed your fingers over the thick web of ink and pulled your hand back immediately. It had been solid and sharp, slicing the tip of your finger.
You trembled with fear and leaned as far against the bed as you could press your body. You tried to get up, to will yourself to move, but instead it felt like your lungs were being squeezed by invisible hands. Your fingers were curling up and you pulled them close to your chest. Closing your eyes, you tried to take deep breaths to calm down but you could barely exhale.
You’d filled your room with ink in your sleep.
That had to have been a vision, but it hadn’t been the future or the past. It had been of that thing in your room with you, hovering over you. What, was this some Catholic-style possession? Maybe finding the artifacts had been a mistake.
You laid on the floor, stretching out into child’s pose to try and help yourself calm down, to breathe. This moment mattered. Not the nightmare. Not the vision. Not the fear.
Just the moment.
You would be okay.
After an agonizingly long time, you felt your heart finally slowing down. Your fingers uncurled and you were able to sit upright. Your head was spinning but you could at least think without the screaming adrenaline of panic.
You couldn’t get out of your room with the ink like this.
The strands were too closely knit together. Pushing your hair back, still shaking, you held it away from your face and tried to think. You’d trapped yourself in the room. But you’d made the ink so maybe you could unmake it too. Holding your palm close to the nearest strand of ink, you closed your eyes and focused. It wouldn’t move and your whole body was shaking.
Your brain was buzzing with panic still. You tried again and were thrown back against the bed, but the ink was gone in a blink. Your hands were aching like you’d been punched right in the palms. They were dark and bruised. But you’d done it. The ink was gone.
Wrapping your arms around your knees, you pressed yourself against the bed.
You had to get a hold of yourself.
What the fuck had just happened?
There was a knock at your door, and you whined, buried your face against your knees, and then took a deep breath. You felt like you could vomit but you managed to get yourself up, vomit free, and made your way to the door. Shaky on your feet, you recognized the monk on the other side. He kept guard outside of Raiden’s chambers. He bowed to you politely as the monks often did.
“Lord Raiden requests your presence.”
“I-I’ll be there in a few… few minutes. I just… I need to get dressed.” You tried not to sound like you had been hysterically sobbing only a few minutes ago. The monk didn’t seem to notice. He bowed and walked away to deliver your message. You leaned against the door after he’d left, taking shaky breaths. You had to calm down.
Liu Kang would have had you meditate so you decided to do just that. You sat on your prayer mat and closed your eyes. Deep breaths. Grounding exercises. You could hear his comforting voice in your head, guiding you along.
In truth, you just wanted to be held.

Mi Amor(tentia) II 《I》
Every Sunday, XL personally delivers the ingredients to HC to restock after each week. Sometimes it’s during the morning before classes, HC inviting XL to stay and chat over coffee.
Other times, it’s in the middle of HC’s classes because XL’s only has so many chunks of free time to drop the ingredients off. XL usually keeps himself scarce as he helps himself to deposit the ingredients off on HC’s desk in his office.
On days XL is especially busy with classes, meetings with outside personnel and tending to the school’s greenhouse, his sixth-year teaching assistant, BY, will deliver ingredients to HC.
HC is easily the person XL enjoys spending time with the most. They have such fun conversations and HC makes XL feel so comfortable and listened to. Plus, HC is undeniably charming and handsome. XL thanks whatever higher power there is that someone as refined as HC took XL under his wing.
XL has learned and observed that HC is a professor that students either love or hate. Some perceive the potions professor as sketchy-looking and unfair in his grading. They take HC’s pushing as ridiculing, then complain about their poor marks after refusing to do the bare minimum of the assignment.
(Unbeknownst to HC, XL has taken it upon himself to passive aggressively warn these students from bad-mouthing HC in the hallways.)
Understandably, The first year students absolutely cower in HC’s presence. But from fourth year and up, HC is one of the most loved professors. When HC begins to passionately lecture with really big hand gestures and funny word combinations, the students can’t help but admire him with starry eyes.
(Student: “Hua Lao Shi, I don’t think ‘impossibleness’ is a word.”
HC: “It is now. As I was saying, don’t let the impossibleness of a goal influence your confidence in working towards it. You should not pay attention to whether something is possible or not, but rather focus on what steps you’re taking to find your answer.)
He’s clearly smart; intellectually based from the readings he assigns students from his own books; socially as his humor is always on point and he never misses a beat to tease his students; and emotionally because HC does not tolerate bullying in his house or his classroom. (Nor in the school, if he can help it.)
HC himself was bullied back in the muggle orphanage and during his time at Hogwarts. He knows what it feels like to wake up dreading going to classes and interacting with people who had nothing better to do than put others down.
So while HC can seem intimidating and blunt at first, he genuinely has his students’ best interests and wellbeing in mind. Witnessing how seriously HC takes his job as a teacher and trusted adult figure, XL’s feelings wrap around him like vines and squeeze him in their hold anytime he’s around HC.
XL’s never had a crush like this before.
Later in the semester, XL and HC are chosen as the professors to monitor the first years on their first trip to Hogsmeade. There is no doubt the transfiguration professor, SQX, took part in pulling some strings to make this happen for XL.
What no one knows is that the defense against the dark arts professor also played matchmaker. In an intense game of wizard's chest that unfortunately ended in his defeat, HX was forced to nominate HC to go with XL.
HC and XL make the best guides. XL is very enthusiastic in answering first years’ questions while HC is good at describing things through muggle terminology.
During his years at Hogwarts, XL has always loved the Hogsmeade trips and bought new candies from Honeydukes each time. In fact, he has a huge sweet tooth that he can never satisfy. Cue XL showing the students around Honeydukes and HC buying all of XL’s favorite goodies in the background.
When it’s time to move on to the next store, HC presents the bagged sweets to XL with a smile.
(XL, staring at the bagged sweets: “San Lang! You shouldn’t have!”
HC, grabbing XL’s hand and physically transferring the bag: “Nonsense. Gege deserves a reward for working so hard lately. Giving him a few candies is the least I can do.”
XL, clutching the bag tightly, fingers tingling from brushing against HC’s own: “If you insist. Many thanks, San Lang.”
XL snacks on some sweets for the rest of the trip. HC watches with a pleased eye.)
One day during finals week before winter break, XL falls ill with a terrible migraine. He’s been prone to migraines for a while now, which he’s used to enduring with medicine tablets that don’t do much to ease the pain.
XL manages to get through his morning classes. But by lunch time, his stomach pain worsened tenfold to which HC, who planned on having lunch with XL, convinced the herbology professor to take the rest of the day off.
“But my classes-” XL’s voice breaks off as he winces as another wave of nausea sweeps through his body. HC puts a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“I will fill in for you,” HC assures. XL looks like he’s about to protest, however, the potions professor holds a finger up to his lips. “I can quickly brew something up for your pain. You like the smell of eucalyptus, right? I can add a faint scent to soothe your sinuses too.”
“San Lang…”
HC fixes XL with a pointed stare. XL’s face softens, eyes closing in defeat.
“Thank you,” he says gratefully. Without thinking, HC reaches over to cup XL’s cheek, sliding back to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear before massaging his temple.
“It’s not a problem. Gege needs rest.”
Luckily, HC doesn’t have afternoon classes lined up for the afternoon. Once XL has retired to his room to relax, HC settles behind XL’s desk as students filter in for class to take the final exam.
(Students who had potions that morning entering the herbology room: “Oh shit-”)
Between classes, HC completes the tasks written in XL’s planner he left during lunch. Unfortunately, HC has a certain TA who sidles up next to him out of nowhere, whispering inconspicuously, “I know you have the hots for Xie Lao Shi.”
HC, who had been marking scrolls, jolts in shock. His left hand streaks across the parchment, leaving a red trail in its wake.
(Student who receives his scroll with a huge red line: “The fuck???? Does this mean it’s wrong? Do I need to do it again?”)
HC ignores BY as he continues about his business. Except BY rolls a chair right beside the desk, her prying eyes making HC feel like he needs to cover more than just his right eye.
“Tell me everything.”
“There’s nothing to tell.”
“Liar.”
“Watch how you speak to your professor, young lady-”
“Watch how you speak to your professor, young lady,” BY repeats in a nasally voice. HC tightly clenches the pen in his hand. BY, unfazed about testing HC’s patience, sighs pitifully. “Sorry, Hua Lao Shi. I swear, I’m only trying to help.”
“Help with what?” HC asks, attempting to remain oblivious. BY gives HC a deadpan. “Ok, fine. How could you possibly help?”
“Well, I heard that Xie Lao Shi might be crushing on another professor-” HC chokes on his spit. “-and maybe you two…”
BY taps the tips of her pointer fingers together.
“What!?” HC aggressively clears his throat. The scrolls are long forgotten now. “H-how do you know?”
“He told me,” BY reveals, smirking like the devil’s child.
“Who is it? Tell me more,” HC demands.
“Ah ah ah–you first.”
HC can’t believe this girl who has him cornered is the same timid third-year transfer student who couldn’t even look him in the eye. He bites his tongue, reluctant to discuss his person of interest with a seventeen-year-old. BY just sits there, looking unbothered as she examines her nails while waiting for HC to cave.
It doesn’t take more than ten minutes before HC admits it.
“Fine. Yes, I like Xie Lao Shi.”
“What do you like about him?” BY asks immediately. HC itches to take points from Hufflepuff; what is this, an interrogation?
To no one’s surprise, HC spends the next half hour praising XL’s selling points (which are all of them) and subtly hinting how plans to ask the herbology professor out soon. BY unhelpfully inputs that HC needs to confess his feelings first.
“And then he needs to accept your feelings too,” she adds, much to HC’s irritation.
“I thought you were helping me?”
“I am,” BY smiles innocently. “By listening.”
“You’re not going to tell me who…?” HC falls silent, glaring at the last scroll he finished grading. A glance at his watch indicates there are fifteen minutes left before the final class of the day begins.
“Of course not. I don’t go around spilling professors’ secrets, especially Xie Lao Shi’s,” BY says. HC nods in resignation.
BY doesn’t tell HC shit in the end, yet somehow made him unload a few things about his feelings regarding XL. HC supposes she was right about the listening part.
Must be some sort of witchcraft. (HC tells himself that XL definitely would’ve laughed at this thought.)
Strangely, HC feels better after this little confessional session. Though he is incredibly curious as to who has caught XL’s eye in this school. HC’s heart painfully twists in on itself at the possibility that it’s anyone but him.
HC desperately hopes BY’s rule about not sharing secrets applies to him as well.

MK OC Randomness part 8... I think. Fuck it! We're going with it!
Welcome back to the shit show. Let's go!
also some of these jokes are from lamas with hats
Qiao Fu is my name for the Lin Kuei Grandmaster
Also some of these jokes are based off skits done by Moonkitti on YouTube. Just re-worded a bit
Nozomi: Hey uncle Shinnok! Do your old man voice!
Shinnok, in his normal voice: What old man voice?
Nozomi: Yeah! That one!
------
Nozomi: ooh who's this?
Qiao Fu: That's my old wife.
Nozomi: The one who died long ago?
Qiao Fu: The very same
Nozomi: *eyeing the picture* That's too bad. She looks really cute.
Qiao Fu: I'm sorry, do you find my old wife attractive?
Nozomi: Do you not!?
------
Nozomi: I wanna see my little boy!
Shang Tsung: *helping Meat walk* Here he comes!
Nozomi: *scooping Meat up and hugging him* I wanna see my little boy!
------
"Revenant" Reiki: WHY WOULD YOU THINK ANY OF THIS IS A GOOD IDEA!?
"Revenant" Michiko: Probably because I'm a dangerous sociopath with a long history of violence.
"Rev" Reiki: Oh.
"Rev" Michiko: I don't understand how you keep forgetting that.
------
Shinnok: Shh, do you hear that?
Shinnok: That's the sound of forgiveness.
Melantha: That's the sound of people dying dad!
Shinnok: That is what forgiveness sounds like. Screaming and then silence.
------
Shariah: How did you even do this!?
Meat: A dollop of fairy dust!
Shariah: Meat!
Meat: I ripped the tag off a mattress.
Shariah: This isn't funny Meat!
Meat: Who's laughing? Clearly not all the people that just exploded.
Shariah: I'm leaving! I've had enough of this!
Meat: But thank of all the perfectly roasted faces we get to munch on now.
Shariah: What? Why?
Meat: Because we're friends. And friendship is two pals munching on well cooked faces together.
------
"The bar was so low it was practically a tripping hazard in Hell! And yet, here you are limbo dancing with the devil!"- Melantha to Hotaru at a family dinner.
------
"Oh no. There are consequences to your actions? Who would've thought?" Krow to Raiden and Flamus, still pissed at them for completely destroying a village that housed the remaining nymphs and nymphlims their husband made.
------
Nozomi: I'm just here to collect Michiko
Qiao Fu: *tries to stab her*
Nozomi: YOU'RE AN UNFIT FATHER FU! THAT'S NOT EVEN YOUR DAUGHTER! YOU HAVE A HUMAN CHILD! WHO THE FUCK'S DEMON CHILD IS THAT! WHO ARE YOU STEALING CHILDREN FROM!?
------
Michiko: You are not my father!
Qiao Fu: Bring proof you are not my daughter!
Meixiu's ghost in the background: Bitch! You literally murdered her birth father!
------
Nyx: Get out
Reiko: Aww come on. Can't I check in on my favorite little sister?
Nyx: If you don't leave me my room Reiko, I will stab you. And when I do it won't look pretty.
Reiko: there's a pretty way to stab people? Like with a butterfly knife or something?
Nyx: yup. Handle and all.
Reiko: oh... OH!
------
Nemos: Greetings Thunder God!
Raiden: Eh? Nemos what are you doing here?
Nemos: I'm taking advantage of your guilt-ridden personality to get a head start on being a better realm protector while no one is looking.
Raiden: Nope. New timeline, new Raiden. Go- Go play with your sisters.
Nemos: I'll have you know I've lived 15 lives in which I've played with my sisters, and none of them have been consequential!
Raiden: *sighs* I'm trying to take you seriously. Really. But it just feels like an even smaller Shinnok is yelling at me right now.
------
Hotaru: *busting into the Sky Temple and picking up Nemos* My beautiful son, I am back from my epic battle of driving out the rebels!
Nemos: Tell me, man who sired me!
Hotaru: We were fighting when suddenly Soldier B produced a substance that burned through their skin!
Nozomi: That sounds like my poison...
Hotaru: Oh no! We'd never poison anyone. Only ambush them in the middle of the night, kill them through physical violence, and intimidate them in other wise orderly court proceedings. Poison is bad.
Nozomi: Have you considered maybe, asking him if he poisoned them?
Hotaru: Oh no, I trust him completely.
Melantha: *holding Discordia and Harmonia* But, what if he did?
Hotaru: *small whimper before glaring and shouting* Solider B! Come here and apologize to my wife for making her think about things immediately!
Solider B: Hi, what?
Hotaru: I said apologize to Melantha!
Solider B: Uh yeah, sorry for poisoning the rebels or something..
Melantha: Hey, has anyone seen Nemos?
------
Darrius: It seems one of the soldiers has summoned Melantha to their side.
Hotaru: *spying on the rebels* Gonna go see Melantha. I'm gonna see Melantha at the meeting. Gonna see Melantha. Melantha.
------
OB: I made a perfectly good Titan
Fuyuka: You fucked up my daughter is what you did!
Fuyuka: Look at her! She's traumatized!
------
Amara: Don’t worry, I have a few knives up my sleeve.
Leila: I think you mean cards.
Amara, pulling knives out of her sleeves: No, I do not.
------
Ermac: Bad things keep happening to us, like we have bad luck or something.
Zyta: Ermac, you don't have bad luck. The reason bad things happen to you is because you're a dumbass.
------
Zyta: You love me, right, Ermac?
Ermac: Normally, we’d say yes without hesitation, but we feel like this is going somewhere and we don’t like it.
------
Kristy: *steps on her glasses by accident*
Kristy: *inhales* If I knew that this would be the fate that befalls me and these damned glasses, I would've just let the fire reach my left eye and burn it out completely!
------
Megumi: I turned out perfectly fine!
Ayeka: Megumi, this morning you thought a ghost made your toast
Megumi: I DIDN’T PUT THE BREAD IN! YOU DIDN’T PUT THE BREAD IN!!!
------
Zyta: Stop buying plastic skeletons for Halloween! It's terrible for the environment!
Philomela: Yeah! Locally sourced, all natural skeletons are much more environmentally friendly!
------
Discordia, holding a python: Guys I impulsively bought a snake, what do I name him
Harmonia: You did WHAT–
Nemos: William Snakepeare
------
Discordia: Hey Harmonia,
Harmonia: Yes?
Discordia: Can a person breathe inside a washing machine while it’s on?
Harmonia:
Harmonia: Where’s Nemos?
------
Discordia: Here’s a fun Christmas idea. We hang mistletoe, but instead of kissing, you have to FIGHT whoever else is under it.
Harmonia: Discordia no.
Nemos: Mistlefoe.
Harmonia: Please stop encouraging her.
------
Store Worker: Would a Ms. Philomela please come to the front desk?
Philomela, arriving at the desk: Hello, is there a problem?
Store Worker: *points to Amara and Zyta*
Store Worker: I believe they belong to you?
Amara and Zyta, simultaneously: We got lost :(
Philomela: I didn’t even bring you guys here with me-
------
Erron, driving Ash and Kamden: So how was your day?
Ash: We almost got surprise adopted!
Erron: What?
Kamden: We almost got kidnapped.
Erron: Oh, okay.
Erron: *slams on the breaks* WAIT WHAT?!
------
Nozomi: Welcome, fellow idiots
Kung Lao: Hello, Nozomi
Nozomi: No, no, not you, you're not an idiot
Kung Lao: You underestimate me
------
Nozomi: What are your goals?
Kung Lao: To pet all the dogs.
Nozomi: No, fitness goals.
Kung Lao: To be able to run fast enough to pet all the dogs.
------
Liu Kang: You know, not every problem can be solved with a sword.
Nozomi: That's why I carry two swords.
------
Sareena: Ok, maybe playing ‘whose family is most dysfunctional’ wasn’t the best idea we’ve had. Michiko's been crying in the bathroom for an hour. We can’t get her out...
------
Sareena: Do you have any skeletons in your closet?
Michiko: You mean literally or figuratively?
Sareena: Honestly, the fact that I have to specify...
------
Sareena: Michiko... Why did you draw a pentagram on the floor?
Michiko: Your text told me to Satanize the house before you returned.
Sareena:
Sareena: I wrote sanitize, Michiko.
------
Sareena: You kill people for money?!
Michiko: I can explain!
Sareena: And all this time I’ve been doing it for free like a chump!

Mortal Kombat (2021) Review
Tumblr media
Well, well, well....here we are, a Mortal Kombat movie -- not the first, obviously. I will say, it's much better than both films from the 1990s. I will also say that, for the most part, I enjoyed it more than "Mortal Kombat 11" and its garbage DLC "Aftermath."
Come for me all you want, but I am standing by my thoughts on that game and its DLC.
Overall, I did like this new "Mortal Kombat" movie. It was entertaining. However, I have...a lot of issues with it, too, pertaining to lore, acting, and special effects.
What was the best part of this movie? If I had to pick one? Oh, definitely Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion. He is one of the best Japanese actors working today. He's one of the best actors working today. Having him play such an important character was probably the best choice the producers made.
Also, quick side note: Hiroyuki is 60 years old. HOW?! I mean, he doesn't look 20, but 60? I have my doubts.
Also, this is the first time I've heard him speak English. Interesting.
Another wise decision the producers made for this movie is casting Josh Lawson as Kano. I don't like Kano. He's a dick, but Josh gave the idiot a sort of douchebag charm that you couldn't help but be amused by.
So, what did I like, broken down:
Josh Lawson and Hiroyuki Sanada
The opening scene and final fight were the best scenes in the movie. Fantastically done, both of them.
Some cute little references to MK lore: a picture of Nightwolf, the use of "flawless victory," the use of "fatality," some suspiciously MK-sounding music cues, the massive statue of Shao Kahn...There were some nice fan service moments.
The fights, even the training ones, were all entertaining. Kind of like with "Godzilla vs Kong," the action is one of the strongest points of "Mortal Kombat" (2021).
The concept of the dragon brand to indicate who would fight in MK tournaments was actually a great choice. It does give the writers an excuse to not worry about including EVERY MK character; only the ones who have been "chosen" can fight at this time. It makes sense, it works, it's intriguing.
Kung Lao slicing Nitara in half (Sorry, Nitara -- love ya, Girl!) with his "spinning hat" technique was probably the most Mortal Kombat kill of the movie. It was extremely graphic, bloody, gross, over-the-top...it was perfect.
Hanzo toasting Bi-Han with his classic fire breath was a badass move if I ever saw one.
I did like how Mileena's mouth "worked" in this movie. She had sharp teeth and reddened skin(?) around her mouth to indicate that there was something not quite right with her face. Then she gets pissed later in the movie and opens her jaw completely, revealing an almost snake-like mouth, the skin tearing in the process. It was pretty badass. I liked it.
I actually liked Raiden a lot in this movie. I don't particularly like him in the games (don't come for me -- it's just my opinion) but I thought he was awesome in this movie, a truly intimidating but wise presence. His lack of full assistance made more sense in this movie, too (again, don't come for me because this is just my opinion).
The special effects were sometimes quite good. Sub-Zero's ice powers were well made, for example. Another example is Goro, who was fantastic (so much better than he did in the 1995 movie).
The backstory behind the main weapon of Hanzo was a pleasant surprise: it was a gardening tool to being with, and he just so happened to find it and turn it into a weapon.
Mixed thoughts:
The acting was decent overall. The only two I thought did great were Josh Lawson and Hiroyuki Sanada, but everyone else was ok. Some of the performances got a little hammy at times, but...I'm not going to take too many points off for that.
I liked Mileena but also was disappointed. She wasn't as malicious and flirty as she normally is; like she was watered down in this movie for some reason. However, she still was a dangerous fighter and her mouth was crazy! 👄
What I didn't like:
Some things didn't look so great. When Jax lost his arms, it looked...well it looked like blatant CGI. The lighting barrier Raiden created to protect his fighters from Shang Tsung looked pretty cheap as well. Some set pieces looked a bit too much like set pieces. I know we're on a set because this is a movie. However, when it looks kind of obvious, it really distracts you. I know this is a Marvel movie or something, but I think the special effects and sets could have looked a bit more refined.
I preferred the Quan Chi twist in regards to the death of Hanzo's family. It provided a much more complicated revenge story, and...I just think it was a better choice than making Bi-Han the murderer, like in this movie. I get that if they did use the Quan Chi twist, this movie would have become, like, 5 hours long or something, and would have had yet another character to develop (or attempt to develop). Still, it's not my favorite take on the Sub-Zero vs Scorpion story. So...meh.
Reptile looked impressive. He was more like a ... reptile than usual, you know, as opposed to a humanoid reptile creature. However, he didn't speak and didn't wear any armor, and his role in the movie seemed forced. It felt more like a badly executed fan service moment, like, "Heeeyyyy, it's Reptile, Guys! Ok, kill him because we have too many characters already...."
Cole was a likable guy, but I didn't see a point in his character being in the movie. He isn't an MK character from the games, and this just doesn't seem like the time to make a new character for the franchise. There are so many more MK characters to choose from, I think they could have avoided making up someone.
At the same time, though, this movie does suffer from having too many characters to focus on: Cole Young, Kano, Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Reptile, Mileena, Reiko, Kabal, Shang Tsung, Raiden, Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion, Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Goro, Nitara...I mean, damn, that's a bunch of characters to cram into one two-hour film. People who know little to nothing about MK may not be bothered by this, but fans like myself most likely will feel disappointed with how certain characters were handled in the movie.
Reiko, what...did they do to you? Did...he even need to be in the movie? I mean, he was just.....there.
Having the concept of "arcana" was just...I don't know. It wasn't a terrible idea but it also made things even less believable. No one got their unique traits due to some sort of weird-ass prophecy or whatever in the games. I suppose the writers used this "arcana" thing as a way to keep the movie flowing and avoid having it be hours long. However, it just didn't sit right with me.
I know this movie is only two hours but I would have liked a little more development for Mileena, Reiko, and even Kabal. Kabal gave us the short version of what happened to him but, again, it was so quick. Like, blink and you'll miss it. I think Mileena and Kabal are two very interesting characters in MK, and having them be so one-dimensional was disappointing.
Hanzo was barely in this movie. It seemed....weird to me. Bi-Han was out there wrecking everyone's shit and Hanzo was somehow trapped in the Netherrealm until Cole was forced to fight Bi-Han one-on-one? I mean, eh? They chose the absolute best actor to play Hanzo but didn't use him much.
I was so disappointed to see Kung Lao killed off. I mean, characters that die in MK games don't always stay dead but still....he was so much fun in this movie (as he should be).
I didn't care for the portrayal of Nitara at all in this movie.
I didn't hate "Mortal Kombat" (2021), but I didn't love it, either. I'd watch it again, and I would watch a sequel, but there is definitely room for improvement. There is a lot of potential for the next MK movie(s) to be much better (this movie had clear potential, too, to be honest). I just hope that maybe the writers will realize this if a sequel is made.
Final grade: C+

Sorry if they're too many, you don't have to answer everything! What is your fave novel of the three? Favorite/least favorite character for each one? Favorite male/female character for each one (aside from you all-time fave)? Favorite canon ship? Favorite non-canon ship? Least favorite of them (and why)? Favorite tool/weapon in the three? They're so many, sorrysorrysorry!
Don’t worry, I love answering questions! There might be some spoilers here, so... be wary of them.
Ok, let’s go in order:
1.
My favorite novel of the three is Tian Guan Ci Fu. When I read Mo Dao Zu Shi I told myself “okay, I don’t think anything could beat this”, and then TGCF came around. I think this novel is, in general, one of my favorite books of all time. Aside from the romance part of it (which is often what people mainly focus on when it comes to MXTX), I really loved the characters and the story is absolutely incredible. I ended up getting so involved in it that I read the entire thing + the extras in three days, subsequently read what was out of the manhua in... maybe two hours? and watched the entire donghua as soon as it came on Netflix in one sitting. The only time this happened to me before TGCF was with the Silmarillion.
This tells a lot.
2.
Favorite SVSSS character: Luo BingHe shares his first place with Shen QingQiu.
Least favorite SVSSS character: Immortal Master Lao Gongzhu of Huan Hua Palace. I cannot even begin to explain how disgusted I was by that character, I almost never hated anyone more than him.
Favorite MDZS character: Wei WuXian. He’s been my favorite character from the beginning. His story follows exactly one of my favorite character dynamic, much like many other favorites of mine (from good to evil to neutral/somewhat good again, even if in this case WWX didn’t actually turn evil). I’m pretty sure the same can be said of almost everyone in my favorite list... oh well.
Least favorite MDZS character: it’s a tough choice between Su She, Wen Chao, and Jin ZiXun. I just... I disliked them so much. It’s not even hate, I just didn’t want to see them on screen. Maybe Wen Chao is the worst of them... yeah, he’s the worst. I could count Jiang Cheng in my least favorites as well, but my reasons for not liking him are way too complicated so I won’t insult him so much.
Favorite TGCF character: Hua Cheng!!!!!!!
Least favorite TGCF character: I don’t have a least favorite character.
3.
Favorite SVSSS male character aside from LBH and SQQ: MoBei-Jun and LiuQingGe. I’m not troubling myself with trying to choose between them.
Favorite SVSSS female character: I used to be torn between Sha HuaLing and Liu MingYan, but SHL follows my general preferences way more so she wins.
Favorite MDZS male character aside from WWX: Wen Ning. He deserves all the love in the world. All of it. Also I really love Nie MingJue and Xiao XingChen.
Favorite MDZS female character: Jiang Yanli (because I fell in love with her gentle personality while watching The Untamed and I can’t bear myself to stop loving her). Wen Qing is right up there with her.
Favorite TGCF male character aside from HC: well, first of all Xie Lian. Second of all, Bai WuXiang and He Xuan.
Favorite TGCF female character: Ling Wen, but only because I don’t count Shi QingXuan as a fully fledged female (I am too in love with both forms to choose one side, sorry guys).
4. (they’re all going to be the main ones, lol)
Favorite canon SVSSS ship: Shen QingQiu x Luo BingHe, though... MoBei-Jun x Shang QingHua is a really close second.
Least favorite canon SVSSS ship: I don’t think I have one? I mean, there’s not much material to examine when it comes to canon pairings.
Favorite canon MDZS ship: Wei WuXian x Lan Wangji.
Least favorite canon MDZS ship: it’s not really a ship (I think, maybe it’s just me?) but whatever they tried to do with Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing in the drama doesn’t sit right with me. For reasons that are a bit more complicated than it seems, and that would need me explaining my opinion about JC first.
Favorite canon TGCF ship: Hualian! Hualian! Hualian! Hua Cheng x Xie Lian is one of my all time favorite ships, in general. I stand by the statement “Hualian invented love”.
Least favorite canon TGCF ship: that weird bullshit the mortal realm like to do with Shi QingXuan and Shi Wudu. Poor guys. It’s canon only because their perverted followers say so.
5.
Favorite non-canon SVSSS ship: I don’t think I have one...? Maybe ZhuZhi-Lang and TianLang-Jun, but I’m still way too confused about that. I know people ship a lot Liu QingGe and Shen QingQiu, but I never saw the appeal of it.
Least favorite non-canon SVSSS ship: again, don’t have one, mostly because I never delved too deeply in the world of non-canon SVSSS ships.
Favorite non-canon MDZS ship: Xiao XingChen x Song Lan. It’s probably the pairing that makes the most sense (to me) out of everyone else. And it’s heartbreaking, so bonus points for that.
Least favorite non-canon MDZS ship: Xiao XingChen x Xue Yang. [heavy spoiler alert] I absolutely HATE this pairing. I love Xue Yang, he’s an amazing villain, but this pairing is straight up abuse, no matter how you look at it. I am a sucker for angsty shit, but I really draw the line at the fucked up pairing that is this one. Xue Yang literally destroyed Xiao XingChen psychologically, lied to him for years, gaslighted him, forced him to kill innocent people, forced him to kill Song Lan, and then ended up ruining him so much that Xiao XingChen killed himself and destroyed his own soul.
I have no idea why people love this pairing so much, but I genuinely hate it. There’s nothing redeeming about it.
Another ship I don’t like is Jiang Cheng x Lan XiChen, but once again this has more convoluted reasons that revolve around JC, mainly. There’s also Lan XiChen x Jin GuangYao. Please, no. I really don’t like it.
Favorite non-canon TGCF ship: Pei Ming x Shi Wudu and He Xuan x Shi QingXuan. We all know why beefleaf is important in our hearts, so let me explain something about Pei Ming and Shi Wudu; this pairing doesn’t mean I completely disregard everything else about Pei Ming. He’s our good old manwhore womanizer and I haven’t changed that (too much). But this pairing... in my headcanon, which is something I’m also going to write in my desperate attempt and being a good fanfic writer, Pei Ming fell in love with him so hard that he was like “okay, fine, there’s just you now, I’m done with sleeping around”. After Shi Wudu dies, Pei Ming keeps his word and doesn’t cheat on him for the reminder of his life. My own headcanon is the reason why this is my favorite non-canon ship. I stumbled into it my complete chance, but I genuinely love it.
Least favorite non-canon TGCF ship: anything that has Xie Lian and Hua Cheng not with each other. I don’t like seeing them paired with anyone else.
6.
Favorite SVSSS weapon/tool: Xin Mo and Xiu Ya.
Favorite MDZS weapon/tool: Chenqing
Favorite TGCF weapon/tool: E-Ming and Fang Xin

just a lil “if ash lived” headcanon that i need to unload somewhere bc i've been holding it in for a long time
- set within the manga ‘verse
- takes place when ash and eiji are in their early 30s... so around the mid 1990s?
- i don’t get the weird animanga trope where older = longer hair, so they’re gonna look the same... maybe with slightly shorter hair bc they get regular haircuts now
- (note: i've always interpreted long-haired eiji as symbolic of the fact that he couldn't move on from ash’s death)
Tumblr media
- ash and eiji will continue living in the states, idk if still in NYC or somewhere else. they’ll move around a lot though.
- ash will mostly remain underground as he had to fake his death after lao’s stab, but he does it in a "hiding in plain sight" kind of way. only a handful of people know he’s still alive.
- ash spends most of his time on the computer, mostly coding, hacking, being a nerd, among other fun stuff.
- he also takes on “jobs” anonymously, and occasionally from max (who’s still into investigative journalism) when he needs info that can only be obtained through Dubious Means.
- i also like to think that ash's a bit of a hacker robin hood lol. but he isn’t doing it purely out of the goodness of his heart, as part of it is a subconscious need to atone for his “sins” and cleanse the gnawing and persistent feeling of shame that gets amplified when he’s around eiji.
- also whatever he’s up to these days would ofc still be Highly Dangerous and Illegal, but it keeps him busy and would sate the part of him that’s still hungry for adrenaline without him having to engage in stuff like active bloodshed or substance abuse. basically that’s how i imagine he’d try to cope with life the only way he knows.
- eiji continues to do photography and other part time gigs bc he does not like the idea of mooching off ash forever, and he slowly makes a name for himself.
- ash and eiji live together but they are NOT together in a romantic sense... not yet >:)
- therefore eiji will probably date other people in the meantime, which gets a little troublesome bc it's not like he can bring them home to where his secret Very Important Friend is secretly hiding.
- ash will maybe have one-night stands every now and then. or not. idk. this isn’t a very important detail.
- anyway there will be lots of clueless but mutual pining :)
- ash especially, is of the opinion that they should start living separately bc someone will eventually track him down, maybe someone who has a past or present grudge on him. combined with his current activities, it’s only a matter of time before eiji would unwittingly get dragged into his problems again.
- eiji is v adamantly against that plan bc he's sorta developed a debilitating sense of paranoia that ash might just get killed somewhere while he’s not looking. not that ash isn’t paranoid either, but his insecurities often tip the scale over to “eiji is safer away from me” than “with me”.
- basically they’re doing their whole “stay. no, leave. no, stay” dance all over again, but like, dragged out over MANY YEARS.
- you thought eiji’s letter would’ve cleared up any crossed wires?
- HELL NO
- like yea, there was probably a beautiful honeymoon period of about a year or two after they reunited, before their respective trauma and issues started creeping in and fucking things up again.
- esp on ash’s end, i think he’d engage in a lot of self-sabotage. and eiji is only human, he has his own limits and baggage too.
Tumblr media
- there will be a government conspiracy plotline but on a smaller scale compared to canon that i am unfortunately not knowledgeable enough to worldbuild on, but it will probably have something to do with cybercrime/cyberterrorism/stuff like that bc it needs to tie in with ash's hacking shenanigans.
- i've heard that sing ends up becoming some sorta political big shot in yasha? idk, i haven't read it myself, but since china’s rising status was mentioned in GoL i imagine the plot should relate to that somehow.
- therefore sing would also get to be in this story!
- i guess this means yut-lung would come into the picture at some point as well, and it would be a good opportunity for a redemption arc but i haven’t given it much of a thought bc i’m indifferent to his character orz SORRY.
- look i can’t do plot, but i am basically envisioning a political thriller with a side of slow burn romance (wait, you mean like a rehash of canon?)
- i’m thinking max is the one who kicks off the story by bringing something fishy to ash, and they just end up uncovering more and more and MORE stuff as they keep going.
- so for like 80% of the story, ash and eiji will be separated bc ash will be busy spying or infiltrating something... and being at the center of Plot Things, while max and eiji will be more on the outside dealing with the journalist side of things. i’m fond of max-ash interactions but i’m also REALLY CURIOUS about max-eiji’s dynamic :D
- meanwhile sing will be like, half in and half out i imagine. he's versatile like that lol
- ...i did NOT mean that in a dirty way
- anyway, this will provide ash and eiji ample space to work out their issues separately, as i think living in close quarters for so many years has actually been aggravating them. ofc those issues don’t get 100% resolved by the end, but some time apart from each other to cool off and spend with other people should provide a bit of perspective.
- i want ash to make some NEW FRIENDS (!!!) that are on the same wavelength as him bc there’s only so much that he can tell eiji and i’m sure he gets rather lonely, so there will be OCs that he will meet in the middle of Plot Things.
- ash will get trapped at some point. preferably with sing so they can have a much needed heart-to-heart talk. they’ll have a lot to hash out, ranging from the events in BF, shorter’s and lao’s death, all the way to ash’s love life.
Tumblr media
- btw i like the idea of eiji and sing being close drinking buddies who confide in one another but ash is kinda, justalittle, not very happy about that LOL
- i mean, it's not like eiji can confide in ash when ash is the topic at hand, ya get me? as for sing, he’s similar to ash in the sense that they live dangerous lives, so i imagine he just finds it nice to be able to hang out with someone mundane like eiji every now and then.
- not to say that ash and sing aren’t talking to each other at all, but i think they’d have a bit of a rift between them. sing probably does feel some resentment, both at ash for killing lao AND at himself bc he knows deep down that given a choice, he would’ve saved ash over his own brother. ash can sense that tortured vibe, so eiji’s like their middle man. AND THAT’S WHY THEY NEED A HEART-TO-HEART TALK
- (SIDE NOTE: i want akira to have a role in this too. i actually have a separate headcanon that happens prior to this story... kinda like an alternate GoL?
akira goes to the states to visit eiji, but ash is also there, yeah? akira and ash start out sorta prickly with each other bc ash is all weird and standoffish and always cooped up in his room. she probably mistook him as a jobless model mooching off eiji at first since 1) eiji and ibe have never spoken about him back in japan (cuz he’s supposed to be dead), 2) why would eiji be living with some random hot guy? unless they met during one of his photography gigs? right???
and then she ends up witnessing them in the middle of a tiff, which makes her not like ash even more bc HOW DARE HE YELL AT POOR OKUMURA-SAN??? UNGRATEFUL JERK!!!
but over the course of her visit, she snoops around learns a bit about their history and gathers hints as to why their r’ship is kinda strained. also ash and akira somehow end up bonding (reluctantly) over their emotional insecurities and part on a friendly rivalry to win over eiji’s affections (which eiji is completely oblivious to. also akira may have been 100% serious but ash was just jokingly playing along with her (OR WAS HE???)). anyway long story short, ash teaches akira some cool tech/IT stuff along the way so that leads to her gaining an interest in the field.
she won’t be able to do much in this story, but a minor role would be cool :)
Tumblr media
^ a lighthearted gyoza-making scene amid all the angst)
- (SIDE NOTE #2: i ALSO want cain to feature in this, but bc canon provided very little bg info on him it’s hard for me to figure out where he’d fit. but i suppose that’s precisely why it would be great to include him, since i can just make up my own backstory! lol. for now, i think he should be connected to one of the new OCs to make him more central to the plot. or heck, he can be involved himself! ...yeah, i’m just salty about how cain was treated more like a convenient plot device compared to the other major side characters. we barely know anything about him even though he was one of ash’s most trusted allies. #caindeservedbetter2k20)
- anyway, back to the main story. ash (and his new "friends") barely escape where they’re held hostage. ash would be rusty with combat now as he’s spent the past few years doing only stealth work and being rather sedentary.
- so there’ll be lotsa old man!ash jokes like them poking fun at him whenever he complains about his back hehe
Tumblr media
- when they finally emerge outside they find themselves in the middle of nowhere! they then hijack a passing pickup truck and do a roadtrip back to civilisation. ROAD TRIP FTW
- at this point, quite some time has already passed and ash even has a fuzzy beard and mane and all. he’s standing at the back of the truck with a small smile on his face and the wind blowing in his hair, thinking GONNA GO BACK AND SEE EIJI, MISS HIM LOADS, HELL YEA
- (bonus: this song and this scene is the catalyst for this entire headcanon btw)
Tumblr media
(drew this about a year ago. i was trying to imitate the manga’s art style... and the ash i had in my mind was a little different. i’m too lazy to redraw, but he’s fuzzier now okay! MORE FUZZ! like an actual freakin LION!)
- meanwhile, eiji and max will get into some deep shit around this point?
- eiji in the pic above was me imagining that the Bad Guys had tossed some damning evidence (eg. severed body part?) on the ground like “ash’s dead/ash’s in a lot of danger now so hand over all the info u have”
- and eiji and max are like. SHOOKETH
- this would be the 3rd time ash has “died” after all, and as they say... 3rd time's the charm...
- eiji almost gives in, but then max spits in their face like fuck no and then... yeah. they get beat up and taken away or something lol
- EDIT: hmm... what if the Bad Guy is someone IN the government, and he uses his power to get eiji and max arrested for aiding and abetting a wanted fugitive (ash). and then ash has to rescue them... JAILBREAK STYLE
- also it might be cool to introduce ash's mom somewhere in this story... maybe SHE'S the villain! mwahaha *drama intensifies*
- anyways they will get saved by ash and gang bc that’s just the way things go, BUT! only on the condition they already made it out at least 80% of the way bc GODDAMN IT👏LET👏EIJI👏BE👏BADASS👏FOR👏ONCE👏
- (that is, after he overcomes the initial shock of ash possibly being dead again... again...... again............)
- there will ofc be moments of “oh my god, you’re okay” "i thought i lost you...!"
- something like this, because one can never have enough cheesy reunion scenes
- this will eventually lead to REVELATIONS (of the romantic kind, yes)
- buuuut they will never say "i love you" directly to each other bc ash is too emotionally constipated and eiji is too japanese. it's okay, they will communicate it through heated stares 👀
- i would love for there to be a scene where they have to be separated again for Plot Reasons and ash sorta hesitantly goes all "...will you wait for me?" as a direct parallel to canon!eiji's "i'll be waiting" and it’s like,
- FINALLY!
- FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! ash has finally allowed himself to ask for this, to let himself want it!
- and eiji would be like OF COURSE I WILL YOU BIG DUMMY, ALWAYS AND FOREVER
- but i think it'd be hilarious if eiji pops up while ash's in the middle of the final showdown and ash's like WTF I TOLD YOU TO WAIT FOR ME and eiji's like I WAS WORRIED OKAY YOU WERE TAKING SO LONG
- idk how this is supposed to end...
- oh wait! since the plot is government-related, maybe Someone will be able to pull strings to wipe out ash’s criminal record (past and present) and give him a brand new 100% legal identity, as thanks for his efforts? or maybe ash (or sing) just does it himself somewhere along the way LOL. anyway, he’ll be able to start over with a fresh clean slate and finally work on recovery FOR REAL NOW. yes this is a happy ending AND it didn’t require him to go to japan /flips off canon
- ...i realise it’s never going to be that simple but W H A T E V E R
- (also they probably will visit japan in the future with that shiny new passport... gotta meet the in-laws and all y’know)
- who do i gotta pay to write this cheesy self-indulgent fic for me

Can I be cheeky& also jump on the Chuyao fic prompt bandwagon, please? Sham marriage idea proposed by LY when his sister appears to drag him back home. Except LY announces straight up he can't as he is with QCS (We are married...spiritually!) and everyone, even QCS, going wth??? Then there's chaos (LY family) but also support (Bai family /all of Shanghai)? And somehow LY & QCS evolve from friends to lovers? I imagine QCS will suffer in this fic becoz of LY antics. Thank you so much!!

“You can’t take me away from Lao Qiao, he’s my husband!” Lu Yao blurts out suddenly in the chaos, yelling at the top of his lungs.
The ensuing silence comes swiftly, and it’s so quiet that he thinks he can hear everyone’s heartbeats.
“You are?” yells Youning, about to launch a ceramic vase at an unsuspecting person in front of her.
“I am?” thinks Chusheng, a fist of his opponent’s hair in his right hand.

Lu Yao regrets it the moment the words leave his mouth, because he’d said whatever was the first thing on his mind in this moment of crisis, if only to keep everyone from fighting to the death. How did the situation even escalate like this?
His sister (and his siblings, to be accurate) rarely find themselves surprised by their youngest brother, but this time, Lu Miao’s eyes go comically wide as his words sink in. As soon as the surprise comes, however, the cold fury sets in, and Chusheng turns around just in time to have Lu Miao turn her attention on him. If looks could kill…
Chusheng is a little ashamed to say that he might be dead right now.
“You better explain, Lu Yao,” seethes Lu Miao.
===
He sits uncomfortably on the chair in Bai Qili’s manor, looking at his hands on his laps. Next to him, Chusheng sits as well in silence. The man has not exposed him so far, and Lu Yao wonders if he will — on one hand he hopes fervently that Chusheng helps him through this, but the other part fears Chusheng’s anger and disgust after.
He embarrassed Chusheng in front of so many people earlier. Lu Yao basically fake-outed Chusheng and dragged him into this farce, a farce that has no easy solution.
Why didn’t he use his stupid brain before spouting nonsense?
“You must be joking,” Lu Miao snorts, considering Lu Yao. “Which church or registry would have allowed you to officially marry another man?”
“We’re married spiritually!” Lu Yao retorts, when no one else speaks up. “We did our baitang, three bows and all.”
Chusheng doesn’t contradict him, but Lu Yao can almost feel the murderous intent emanating off the inspector who’s sitting closest to him.
“You are being entirely ridiculous, if it’s not officially registered then it doesn’t count at all! You’re coming back with me right this instant-“
“Why are you always sticking your nose into my affairs where it’s not welcomed? I’m perfectly happy here, have you ever thought about what I want? I’m not three anymore, jie!”
They might have continued to argue for hours after, maybe shatter some plates and cups in the process, if not for Bai Qili’s intervention.
“… Lu-xiaojie, perhaps a baitang doesn’t mean much to you or the rest of the Lu family, but the Bai family and Green Dragon Gang takes the ceremony very seriously. Since San Tu is married to Chusheng by ritual, I’m afraid he is one of ours now. If your family insists, I’m sure I can make arrangements for an official registration, conventional or not," the man drawls, as imposing as ever.
Lu Yao almost gapes at Bai Qili — out of everyone present here in this living room, Lu Yao was sure the old man would be the first to beat him to death and then toss his body into the river for daring to corrupt his Chusheng, never mind that Lu Yao comes from a powerful family himself.
How would he not know what a taboo it is for two men to be together in Shanghai, or the rest of China? If they were overseas — Paris, London, anywhere, this would be much more acceptable, so to hear Bai Qili just go with the flow without a word of protest or even a look at Lu Yao is not what he expects of the head of the Bai family.
Finally daring to brave a look at Chusheng, Lu Yao sees his best friend glance over at the same time and freezes.
There’s no anger, not that Lu Yao can see. Some exasperation and resignation perhaps as Chusheng sports an expression that is similar to the one he has when he’s experiencing severe gastric.
San Tu, you can’t tell me you don’t know just how much he dotes on and gives in to you.
This was something Youning said a while ago, and he shudders, all the hair on his skin standing up as Chusheng reaches out a little hesitantly, and then wrapping Lu Yao’s smaller hand in his.
“Da-jie, lao ye-zi, I’m sorry for not informing the both of you earlier, this was indeed an oversight on my part. We completed the ceremony in the Green Dragon Gang’s altar hall… we were still figuring out how to tell you both. My apologies,” he lies smoothly. “And if here is where San Tu wants to stay, I won’t have anyone take him away from me.”
Fuck, Lu Yao curses internally, his eyes widening because why does this sound so, so real?
A squeeze around his hand reminds him that it’s his turn to play his part, and so Lu Yao continues, “Jie, please. I just want to be here with Lao Qiao. If you… if you decide to take me back home anyway, if you do anything to take him away from me… I won’t want to live anymore.”
Lu Miao stares for a good while, but tries again, “Do I not know you well enough? You won’t have the guts to do that. Stop theatening me, it won’t work-“
“You didn’t think I’d cut myself off from the family,” Lu Yao returns quietly. “But I got out from right under your nose, didn’t I? At least for the first year.”
“San Tu, do you even know what you’re doing? He’s a gang member!”
“Hey, what’s wrong with a gang member? Are you looking down on my brother?” interrupts Youning suddenly, her hands on her hips as she furiously snaps at Lu Miao. “This gang member of a brother has been taking care of San Tu, where were you guys when he was down to his last silver and almost getting chased out of his house? It’s Lu Yao’s fortune to have bagged someone as outstanding as Chusheng-ge!"
Lu Yao pales a little at the mention of a fine example of how he’s not taking care of himself well and also at Youning’s insinuation that he married up, then hurries to say, “Jie, there’s no one else for me but Qiao Chusheng. Where he goes, I will go.”
Even in death, is the unspoken part to that declaration.
She falls silent at that. After a beat passes, Lu Miao turns her attention to Chusheng, as if saying, if my brother wants to be ridiculous, so be it, but are you going to ruin your reputation and everything you’ve built just to play along to his whims?
“And you love him?” she asks.
Unconsciously, Lu Yao clutches back at Chusheng’s hand in his, a plea.
“I love and cherish him above all else,” Chusheng replies without the slightest bit of hesitation.
If Lu Yao ignores everyone else around them, he can almost believe Chusheng when he says that.
===
It’s a clusterfuck of epic proportions. Lu Yao is curled up on the couch in Chusheng’s room at the Bai manor, with his knees drawn up to his chest and his fingers pressing at his temple as he contemplates just how much trouble he’s in. Not only has he pissed off his sister, because he’s sure Chusheng is mad at him too.
Now that the anger at his sister and the Lu family has abated somewhat, Lu Yao is finally left alone in his thoughts as he marvels at how bold he was earlier.
He regrets it now of course, but damn, this is the first time he’s been able to pull one over his sister. As ridiculous as he was, Lu Yao manages to think through the consequences of his actions — mainly the possibility that his family will try to do anything and everything within their power to create trouble for Chusheng.
He’s already dealt Chusheng with such a heavy blow, and over his dead body will the Lu family hurt even a strand of hair on his head, Lu Yao vows.
The only other problem is Chusheng’s happiness in the future. Once the news of his sham marriage with Chusheng goes out, will women dare to approach him after? What if there’s a woman that Chusheng really, really likes right now, and Lu Yao has basically ruined everything for him?
Would Chusheng hate him?
So absorbed he is in his thoughts, his teeth gnawing lightly at his nails, that he misses Chusheng’s entry into the room until the man flops down right next to him on the couch. Lu Yao startles so much that he almost falls off the edge of his seat, if not for Chusheng’s fast reflexes.
“You are honestly…” Chusheng admonishes without heat, sounding absolutely tired.
“I’m sorry,” Lu Yao rarely apologizes and admits his wrongdoings, but here he is. “Lao Qiao, I’m so sorry, I swear I wasn’t thinking-“
“Did I spoil you too much?” the man sighs, leaning into his seat with his eyes closed. “That you would pull such a huge lie in front of your family and mine and think that I would, without question, play along?”
The phrasing is strange enough that Lu Yao knows Chusheng is really, really upset.
Panicked, he replies, “Lao Qiao, I- I’ll go and tell them that it was a lie. I just… I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking! I’ll tell Bai lao-ye that it’s a lie, that you’re helping me deceive my sister, so don’t-“
Don’t be angry with me, don’t ignore me, don’t hate me.
“Forget it. You made the announcement to more than 60 people today, San Tu. I just barely smoothed this over with lao ye-zi, and what’s done has been done,” Chusheng finally says, patting at Lu Yao’s shoulder. “We’ll figure this out tomorrow. You can take the bed, I’ll sleep on the couch.”
Other than the fact that Lu Yao doesn’t sleep well in new environments, the events of today have rattled him significantly, and with Chusheng lying on the couch surely awake as well, Lu Yao finds himself staring at the ceiling until dawn breaks.
Lu Yao knows he can fix this for Chusheng.
Can’t he?
===
“Inspector Qiao, congratulations!”
“Da-ge, congratulations! What kind of a brother are you huh, you got married and didn’t think to get us to throw a party for you?”
“Ahh… no wonder Detective Lu has been spending so much time with you recently. You hid it so well, lao-da!”
Chusheng has to be immensely thankful for the support from his brothers and the people who actually know him, like the owners of the snack stalls he frequents, even the newspaper boys that Chusheng regularly tips and everyone at the station. Telegrams start coming in from other precincts that are headed by several other members of the gang, and even some of the petty criminals that are stuck in the holding cell at the station for a few weeks give him their blessings.
Of course, while the people happy for him and Lu Yao actually number more than Chusheng expected, there are as many others who gossip and shoot him strange looks. He can almost hear the, look at him, such a fine young man, if not for his unconventional tastes in a partner.
By the end of the morning, Chusheng has unplugged all electronic communication devices in his office and the doors are firmly locked, with instructions to Salim to not let anyone in unless an entire village is on the cusp of imminent death.
He’s trying his best not to think too much about it. Chusheng meant what he said to Lu Miao before, that there isn’t much he can do for Lu Yao except to ensure that he will not suffer in silence. With the stunt Lu Yao pulled yesterday, this is the best Chusheng can do for him. For now, his strategy is to simply wait until everyone has forgotten that he and Lu Yao are married, and then…
And then what?
It’s not as if baitang is child’s play. Can he simple fake-divorce Lu Yao at the end of this? When will this end, in the first place? A year? Two years, a decade? And let’s say if they do manage that, will any proper and self-respecting woman even consider him?
Chusheng doesn’t have any prejudice against same-sex couples — back when he worked at the docks which saw an all-male staff, sometimes he heard stories about how some brothers would help each other out and find companionship in each other as well — but not everyone shares the same views as he.
At the thought, Chusheng calls, “Ah Dou.”
Ah Dou, who is patiently sorting through Chusheng’s actual work documents and the pile of congratulatory messages that came for him today, looks up from where he’s standing at the shelves.
“Get Liu Zi to send some brothers to protect Lu Yao,” he says with a frown.
That dumbass probably wouldn’t even notice if someone was intending to do him harm and with the way the gossip mill is running, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
And as for the future, possibly marrying a woman…
Chusheng shakes his head, clearing his mind of wishful thoughts.
For someone who doesn’t know if he can live to see the next day, who has blood all over his hands and is no good person at all, Chusheng has never expected to have his own family.
Not even Lu Yao should be tied down to him.
Salim pops his head through a small opening in the doors and asks, “Sir! Two congratulatory flower stands came for you, do you want me to set it up outside the office?”
Finally, Chusheng loses it.
“Anyone who makes another congratulatory remark can spend a night in jail!” he snaps. “What, do people not have anything better to do? I’m not fucking kidding. I don’t want to hear another message coming through the doors of the station, do you hear me?”
“Okay,” Salim replies a little dejectedly, closing the door shut behind him again.
Of course, his outburst and anger is what Lu Yao hears about a few hours later. Remorseful, he turns up at the station and sneaks into Chusheng’s office.
“… what’re you doing here?” Chusheng asks, looking up from his papers.
“Lao Qiao… I’m sorry,” he apologizes, biting at his lower lip. “I didn’t realize there’d be such a huge fuss over this.”
Lu Yao is the perfect picture of a sad, pitiful puppy, and Chusheng has all along doted on Lu Yao, so the image does tug at his heartstrings. As soon as the urge to comfort him comes, Chusheng frowns.
He’s got this all wrong. He’s the one who was wronged and taken advantaged of, so why does Lu Yao look like he’s the one being bullied?
Sighing, Chusheng kicks at the chair in front of him, signalling for Lu Yao to sit down.
“I’m not angry, San Tu. I would have appreciated some warning, and maybe we could have thought things through a little, but as I said last night, that’s all been done and we can’t turn back,” he points out.
“I’ll make it up to you,” Lu Yao swears, “I… I’ll take on all the cases you have while this marriage thing is going on for free? I can… I promise I won’t make you pay for any of my meals again, Lao Qiao. I… I won’t even hang around anymore outside of a case, just… just…”
At that, Chusheng finally laughs, and the sound is a huge relief for Lu Yao, who hasn’t heard him laugh since the shit that went down yesterday.
“I’ll hold you onto the first two then,” Chusheng says nonchalantly. “San Tu ah, what are you thinking? We’re brothers, are we not? You said before that you cherish the friends you have here and… it’s the same for me. If it’s something you want to do, or don’t want to do, I’m at your back ready to support you. For as long as this ruse has to last.”
“Even… if that means you’re in a gay relationship with me? Even if no woman would want to marry you after this?”
“Even then,” Chusheng nods. “I’m no good person to marry anyway.”
“That’s not true!” Lu Yao protests.
“Alright,” Chusheng waves him off. “I’ve already gotten earfuls from Youning and lao ye-zi for not treating you right, so… I guess since everyone thinks we’re married now, you need to move in to my apartment. Get Liu Zi to help you pack, and you really should move in as soon as possible.”
Lu Yao didn’t even think of that. As the implications of staying together with Chusheng sink in, he stiffens in his seat.
“What, you laid your claim on me first and now you’re being all shy about it?” snorts Chusheng, reaching over and poking at Lu Yao’s forehead. “I have an extra room, so don’t worry, husband.”
“Mnn,” Lu Yao nods at that, and his cheeks flush a little pink at the term. “I’ll go pack then.”
“And we have to do dinner at the Bai manor tonight!” calls Chusheng after him.
At the door, Lu Yao blanches.
===
They live together as friends from then on. Compared to Youning, Chusheng is the perfect roommate. At the very least, the likelihood of Chusheng setting something on fire is minimal, and the man’s house surprisingly suits Lu Yao’s tastes. As promised, there is enough space for them to have a bedroom each, and the storage room at the back turns into half a study for Lu Yao and his books.
Lu Yao decides that the least he can do is cook (and now that he has lost his source of income by offering to work for free, the only way he gets fed without having to pawn off his treasures is to ask for grocery money from Chusheng) for them both. When Chusheng realizes that Lu Yao is cooking regularly, he starts coming home early on a daily basis as well.
Bai Le Men and Chang San Tang are off-limits, unfortunately. For now, Chusheng is experiencing what it’s like to live as a monk, but the inconveniences stop there.
In fact, having Lu Yao in the same house as he has its perks, namely the ability to drag Lu Yao out of bed early in the morning for cases.
It’s their first case since the announcement and there is no lack of attention on them, as this is the first time they’re being seen out in public together. When some men in the crowd begin to focus on Lu Yao with less than friendly gazes, Chusheng naturally steps closer to him, his eyes steadily sweeping over the crowd.
He’s mine, he’s trying to say, if you’ve got anything you want to say you come at me.
They solve the murder two days later, and Lu Yao jumps in surprise when Chusheng slides three silvers over the top of the dining table, his usual payment for consulting on cases.
“What…”
“Save it,” Chusheng’s eyes crinkle a little as he smiles, “Don’t think I haven’t noticed you eyeing my wallet recently.”
Touched, Lu Yao feels hot tears come to his eyes, “Lao Qiao, I knew it, you’re the best to me-“
“Yeah, remember that the next time you try to use me to lie to your family. I don’t want you to spring an adopted child on me next,” Chusheng downs his wine, shaking his head.
Not as many changes happen after his fake-marriage to Lu Yao, much to Chusheng’s bewilderment.
On a usual day, it’s typical for him to buy breakfast, lunch or dinner for Lu Yao even before they began to live together. The only difference is that he’s going out to buy breakfast every day now before Lu Yao wakes up instead of every few days. Chusheng still chauffeurs him up and down, only the destination is no longer the apartment he shared with Youning, but Chusheng’s house.
Before this, he had Lu Yao’s cooking frequently too as the man would roll up his sleeves and cook for him and Youning at least one a week or every two weeks. They’re both slowly getting used to each other in close proximity, and the latest of developments involve them making grocery trips together every four days.
Everything else has stayed pretty much the same.
When Chusheng sees an imported coat made of high quality sheep’s fur as he passes by a store one day, he doesn’t even think much of it before he’s walking in and buying the expensive outerwear for Lu Yao. The price doesn’t even cross his mind. All he knows is that Lu Yao will like this.
He presents the bag to Lu Yao over dinner the same day, and Chusheng is right.
Lu Yao loves it so much that he leans over the table and presses a kiss to Chusheng’s cheek in excitement.
“What, are you really that happy?” Chusheng teases, but warmth fills him as he sees that he’s made the right choice.
“Of course I am! You know how scared I am of the cold,” Lu Yao points out, hugging the material to himself. “This material is known for trapping heat in!”
A few weeks later, Lu Yao ironically catches the flu bug despite how protected he is, and ends up bedridden with fever. To better take care of him, Chusheng lets Lu Yao rest in his bed so he doesn’t have to run between two rooms.
The bed sleeps two now, even after Lu Yao has made a full recovery. It feels less empty that way and both Chusheng and Lu Yao find themselves warmer under the covers sharing a bed.
As the weeks go by, they shift from having their own sides of the bed, to falling asleep and waking up in each other’s arms, their legs tangled together. Most of the time, Chusheng wakes to Lu Yao’s hair in his nose and his arm resting over Lu Yao’s waist.
And when Chusheng gets hurt by a rival gang involved in their latest case, Lu Yao tells the nurse outside the operating theatre that he’s Qiao Chusheng’s husband loudly. In the days after the operation. the nurses even bring an extra bed into the ward so Lu Yao can keep an eye on his husband.
The nurses and doctors, for one, think that their relationship is cute.
They even survive a trip to Hai Ning to visit Lu Yao’s father. Chusheng has to endure four separate shovel talks, each sounding more deadly than the previous one, but they get to announce their relationship to Lu Yao’s mother at her grave too.
On the train journey back, Lu Yao dozes off against Chusheng’s shoulder. He lifts up his arm to hug Lu Yao to him so he’s laying a bit more comfortably without question, enjoying the feeling of having Lu Yao in his hold.
===
A year after Lu Yao tried to con his way into matrimony with Chusheng, he returns home to an empty house, Chusheng not yet returned from the station. As Lu Yao passes the dining table for the kitchen to put his groceries away, a piece of paper and a metal trinket catches his eye.
It’s a marriage certificate. As real as it can be, with Lu Yao and Chushueng’s name on it.
The realization that they’ve been living just like a married couple in the past year hits him like a freight train and his legs feel weak.
Indeed, they are as real as any married couple existent in the country, minus the sex.
Of course Lu Yao loves Chusheng. There has never been any question about that. Chusheng is the only person Lu Yao truly cares about, more than he cares about himself.
Wherever he goes, I will go, even in death, he said then.
I love and cherish him above all else, Chusheng had answered.
With a small smile tugging at his lips, Lu Yao slides the gold band onto his fourth finger.
Busy at the stove making Chusheng’s favourite beef stew when Chusheng comes home later, Lu Yao is prepared when the man comes close, sliding his arms around his waist and pressing himself against Lu Yao’s back, his chin hooked on Lu Yao’s shoulder.
It’s not difficult to catch the gleam of an identical band sitting on Chusheng’s hand/
“Smells good,” Chusheng inhales deeply.
Lu Yao sets the spatula aside and covers the pot with a lid to let it simmer, and once he’s free, Chusheng turns him around and reaches for his lips.
They kiss softly as if they’ve done this countless of times, when it’s only their first, proper kiss, but it doesn't matter.
“Tomorrow,” Chusheng breathes, his forehead pressed against Lu Yao’s after they part finally for air.
“Let’s baitang for real in the ancestral hall.”
===
*baitang 拜堂 - Traditional Chinese wedding custom which involves three kowtows, there are variations but usually the couple kowtows to heaven & earth, to their ancestors, and then to their parents. Some baitangs will have the couple kowtowing to each other.

Naked Proposal [Gilbert Redford x Reader] SFW
Word Count: 2800+ Genre: Fluff (like.. really fluffy) Pairing: Gilbert Redford x Reader Rating: slight, very very slight sexual situations while being naked and a bit of touching, but it’s nothing Notes: Please bear with my grammar and stuff. English is not my native language and this is merely translated from my wording of my native language, so some sentences may sound.. a bit weird. I apologize! (This is a pairing with Gilbert, but you could say it is in the timeline of Dante’s best ending, because of the Lao-Shu being gone)
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
It was another sunny day in Creta. The hottest day of the year, Gilbert and I still enjoyed our daily stroll through this lively district. No matter where we went, Gilbert was always greeted warmly by the people and almost every civilian was allowed to call him Gil. Gilbert loved to show other people, expecially lonely men who try to woo any woman they see, that I belonged to him. He always put his arm around my waist and occasionally hugged me as the men greeted him. As soon as their eyes fell on me and how protectively my dear boyfriend had pulled me to him, they didn't even try to hit on me. Our walk took us past Nina's shop, where we always made a short stop and talked a little with the her. And like always, Nina asked when we are going to bring our relationship to the final stage - i.e. marriage.
Gilbert always found a suitable answer, such as that we still had a lot of time and should not rush things. And that we already lived together anyway and didn't need a wedding to show everyone how much we love each other.
I largely agreed with his reasoning, but frankly ... I wanted to get married at some point ... Gilbert, on the other hand, seemed to want to remain to be a free spirit. Maybe he just wanted to leave all options open in case he wanted something better than- "[Y/n] ..?"
Gilbert's slightly worried exclamation got me out of my thoughts and I looked at him questioningly. "Uh .. yeah?" I asked, seeing that his face was a little alarming. “You are so quiet today and you seem like you are not there mentally. Is everything all right? ”He asked, giving my hip an affected squeeze with his hand as he pulled me close and gave my forehead a loving kiss. "I'm sorry. I have to get used to the fact that, after the whole thing and the problems that the Lao Shu have caused, peace has finally returned and it has become so quiet. I guess my head is still busy processing everything. ", I explained to him and hoped that he would believe me. Apparently he did, because his gaze softened. "I understand. You don't have to worry anymore. Everything has become calm. Even Roberto doesn't cause us any more trouble. ", He assured me and put a strand of hair from my face gently. "Hey .. It's pretty hot today, should we head to our favorite ice cream parlor on the slope, from where you can see the beach?" He asked and I smiled at him. His attitude has helped me often to forget negative thoughts and so I nodded at his suggestion. "Sure! But is it okay if you just take a day off today? Oliver will surely be mad when we come back. ", I sighed. Gilbert wasn't unreliable and usually he was more than aware of his position as mafia boss, but sometimes his spontaneity got in the way and he'd just kidnapped me out of here and left everything behind, including his duties. “I've already considered that and settled it. I left him a message that we are with the Falzone and that I have a few things to discuss with Dante, how we want to regulate the division of the city, since the Lao Shu are no longer there. And we will probably need a few days and therefore even spend the night at the Falzone mansion. So that means we have time. ", He winked at me with a slightly childish smile and I slapped my hand over my forehead. “And you think he'll buy that from you? Come on. Even though it's true that the Visconti and the Falzone are now allied, it sounds totally unrealistic that the Falzone Boss lets the Visconti Boss stay the night in his mansion. ”I said and just shook my head slightly. Gilbert laughed softly and shrugged. “It's Dante. He only looks so cool and unapproachable on the outside. But actually he's a softie. Is it true or am I right? ”He asked me and I laughed softly. What he was talking about could not be denied. "And besides, I have you with me too. You're the convincing argument that he would let us stay the night, ”he added, winking at me. "Gil ... It's still not okay to lie to your men like that .." "I know .. But .. Hey, we haven't had so much time for each other in a long time and .. I just miss being alone with you. Is that bad? ”His question made my heart melt again. We'd been together for so long and his words still had such a big impact on me. "Of course not .." I said softly and snuggled against his strong chest as we walked to the ice cream parlor. Gilbert smiled and stroked my back as he slowed down a little so that we could continue walking in this intimate position.
When we arrived at the ice cream parlor, we ordered our usual flavors: [favorite flavour] for me and coffee for Gilbert. And as usual, every now and then we bit off each other's ice cream while our arms were hooked. The people, who watched us, always had smiling faces and some even whistled at us. “People still stare at us like that. They should have been used to seeing us so closely by now. ”Gilbert smiled and casually licked a piece of melted ice from the side of my mouth as if it were completely natural. I smiled and then closed my eyes. “Seems like they have to get used at seeing you with the same woman over and over again. Since you've always been known as a playboy, who never wanted to commit. ", I answered him and it seemed as if the topic was a sore point for Gilbert too, because he became silent when we stood at a railing that went down to the Beach looked down from above. I felt a bit guilty and wanted to apologize, but my heart sank to my boots and I stood silently next to him and looked at the sea. The rest of our ice cream melted away until we finally looked at each other. "Do you miss those times when you were still unbound and were able to flirt freely with everyone?" I suddenly asked, because of course I also noticed that Gilbert had hardly, actually not at all, flirted with the other women in Creta since we confessed at each other. Gilbert's eyes widened somewhat in surprise at this question and he tossed the cone into a nearby trash can so he could grab my shoulders with both hands. "What are you talking about? Why should I miss it? I have never been so happy as with you in my life. So .. don't think I would ever trade that for anything again. ", He spoke resolutely and in such a serious voice that I swallowed lightly. Now I felt stupid for my negative thoughts and looked slightly ashamed to the ground. "You're right. I'm sorry. “, I whispered and closed my eyes. Gilbert was silent for a moment before I felt a finger under my chin. I opened my eyes again and Gilbert lifted my head with his index finger and looked intensely into my eyes. "No need to apologize. Hey, look at me. ", He spoke softly when I tried to avert my gaze from him again. At his gentle command, I looked him in the eye again and noticed how lovingly he was looking at me. "I love you. Only you. And I'd be the biggest idiot of all time if I let you go again. Was that understandable? ”He asked me in a tone that left no room for argument. All I could do now was a slight nod and Gilbert's mouth formed a big smile. "Good," he said and his face came closer. When our lips touched, I could still taste the caffeine from his ice cream on it. Mixed with the taste of his lips, it was so tantalising that I forgot all my worries when I put my arms around him and gently kissed him back.
After our lips parted, we looked deeply into each other's eyes for a while and smiled. I put my arms around him and hugged him tightly and gently as I buried my head in his chest. "Sometimes.. I wonder how I deserved you .." I sighed softly into his skin through the open neckline and felt Gilbert laugh softly as he hugged me. "I ask myself this question with you every day," he replied a little teasingly and stroked my back. "Mmm. But if we stand in the blazing sun for longer, the heat will melt me away. ”His spontaneous change of subject came in very handy before this got out of hand. After all, we weren't alone out here. “It's really damn hot today. So hot that I could jump straight into the sea when I see it from here. ”I replied and pulled away from him. "Then ... let's go there?" He asked naturally. "What? Right now? ”I asked, slightly taken by surprise. "Sure.", He just grinned at me. “But we don't have anything with us. Neither towel nor swimwear? ”I frowned and when I saw Gilbert grin slyly. I knew EXACTLY what was he would answer.. “It's so hot that we don't need to dry off. The sun does. And .. we don't need swimwear either. We just go to an empty part of the beach behind the rocks. We are undisturbed there. And we don't need swimwear among each other, do we? ”He asked me with a mischievous grin and his hand ran along my sides in a provoking manner. I closed my eyes but then had to laugh quietly. "Your spontaneity really knows no bounds," I said with a smile when Gilbert was pulling me down to the slope to the beach when he took my hand. "I know, but that's exactly why you love me," he replied with a grin and I let myself be dragged along with a laugh. Fortunately, the negative thoughts had finally disappeared and I was sure: I didn't need a wedding. I already felt like the woman who was lucky enough to stay at his side forever.
And that was enough for me. We found an isolated spot on the coast. It was well hidden by rocks so that no one could watch us from above. After we had made sure that there really wasn't a soul around, we began to undress. It was an act we were already more than used to, so I felt no shame as I undressed in front of him. We put our clothes far enough away so that they didn't get wet from the current and I took my first steps into the icy water. "Waaah .. This is colder than I thought." I shook myself and stopped. Suddenly Gilbert grabbed me from behind and threw me over his shoulder. "Aaah? Gil? Let me down immediately! ”I ordered him and gently slapped him on the back as he laughed and ran into the water. "The best way to get used to the water is to jump full pipe into it's coldness ~" he sang, and I suspected what this would lead to. "No, don't-"
Too late.
Without warning, he threw me into the cold seawater, and I heard a dull laugh while I was under the water. After I reappeared, I gave him a pat on the back of the head and gave a slightly angry look. "Idiot." I growled softly. "I love you too." Gilbert countered amused and began to dive in front of me. He emerged a little further and floated on his back. "Ah .. that feels good.", He said and closed his eye. I swam next to him, when I got used to the cold water it was really nice and refreshing. "Oh yeah. We really need a large swimming pool in the garden of the Visconti mansion. ”I laughed. "Naw. I've made this suggestion to Oliver many times, but then there is always a long scolding, what a waste of money that would be and we are here in the Mafia and blablabla. You know that. “, Gilbert answered with a slight pout and I had to laugh quietly. Gilbert could just be so incredibly cute. "Yes, I know that very well." I smirked and looked at him when he leaned forward again and held out his hand to me. I grabbed his hand and he pulled me close to his naked body and put his arms around me. My eyes almost closed on their own as I enjoyed that hug. We lingered like that for a moment before he spoke again.
"I love you," he whispered softly and nibbled my cheek. Gilbert was an old-school romantic. He told me so many times a day that he loved me and other sweet things. I loved that side of him so much. "I love you too." I replied smiling and catched his lips for a demanding kiss. Gilbert's hand grabbed my bottom under water and stroked my thigh to bend my leg around his waist. This made me feel even more of him and I pressed my body more into his through this hot kiss. The ice-cold water made our nipples perky and more sensitive than usual. “Should we go back to the shore? The water is a little too cold to stay in here longer. ", I asked and Gilbert nodded when he let go of me and we swam back to the coast. When I tried to sit down on the rock, he stopped me. "Wait," he said and took his black jacket, which he usually wore casually around his shoulders. I have NEVER seen him ever wear the jacket. It was probably just about style. He spread it out on the rock and indicated that we should sit on it. "Gil .. The jacket will get dirty.", I sighed and shook my head. "Oh, but nothing that can be cleaned though." Gilbert waved his hand and I felt sorry for the maids .. Who knows what problems they had because of his 'You can wash everything' .. After a quick glare with a raised eyebrow, I gave in and sat on the soft jacket. Gilbert did the same and sat cross-legged next to me. He pulled me close with his arm and our heads were snuggled together as we let the summer sun dry us off. There was a pleasant silence between us and I was dozing off when I heard Gilbert mumble something. "Now or never.."
His words made me look up and I blinked. "What do you mean by that?" I asked and Gilbert looked at me with slightly red cheeks as if I had caught him doing something weird. He cleared his throat to maintain his composure and then straightened up in front of me. He took my hand in both of his hands and looked at me insistently but lovingly. "All along I didn't know how to say it, but .. It's just a fact that you've enriched my life. Thanks to you I am so happy as I have never been in my life. And .. I also realized that I never want another woman by my side again. And also .. even if that sounds strange from my mouth, since I never wanted to settle down .. ", he began and my heart almost began to stop when I realized what he was getting at ..
" [Y/n] .. " he started again and one of his hands went to his pants, which lay next to us with our other things. He took out a small, red velvet box from his pocket and went down on one knee. He was completely naked, but he knelt in front of me and held my hand again. "[Y/n] .. Do you want to be my wife? Do you want to be by my side forever and lead the Visconti family into a better future with me? "
My jaw dropped down. I was completely overwhelmed. He actually proposed to me. Tears of joy began to stream down my face and I could only knock him over when I threw myself into his arms. "Yes .. Yes, of course I want! Gil .. I never thought you'd ask me .. ", I mumbled into the crook of his neck and Gilbert kissed my tears away as he hugged me tightly and took a small gold ring out of the box. It was a diamond with two small [gems that has the color of your eyes] on their side. He took my hand and put the ring on my ring finger while looking at me happily. "Thank you. You make me the happiest man on the planet. Although .. I was already the happiest one before the proposal. ", He winked teasingly and I smiled when I hugged and kissed him again. And so my life was finally complete ..
THE END Working on an extended lemon ending, lemme know if you wanna read this!
