I think it's extremely sexy of Bones to make the ending scenes of the broccoli arc one of the most animation intense sequences in history but they don't convey the sheer overwhelming horror of this panel

im so glad to see youre Also handling the finale well!!!!!!!!!!! <- coping
YEAH WE R SO FUCKED . IM FUCKED IN THEHEAD
ok official thoughts under cut- spoilers, obviously
im not a big fan of shitting on shows like oh it woudlve been better if it was Like This Instead like. thats kind of dick behavior to me so prefacing with i DID like the finale it was good :3 i liked how most of it was executed ! and overall it was satisfying ! its really uncool to approach a story with hate in your heart and not even give it a chance. HOWEVER. i have devoted the past 2 weeks of my life to going fucking BONKERS about simon/(gol)betty so i do unfortunately have opinions on how they handled thaaat. like . i literally made a post abt this yesterday- moving on just isnt a good solution to their arc !!!!!!!!!!!!!! i get where it comes from and the message its trying to get across but its just . why ! whats with this therapy-ization of modern characters ! Every Slightly Unhealthy Couple MUST Break Up And Theres No Such Thing As Improving Relationships And Talking About Problems Or Rebuilding Together. AFTER EVERYTHING SHE DOES FOR HIM, JUST WHEN THEYRE BOTH FINALLY SANE AND TOGETHER AGAIN AFTER CENTURIES SHE JUST . GIVES UP . SIMON HAS MATURED, AND IS CLEARLY IN A PLACE TO LISTEN TO HER AND REMEDY HIS MISTAKES. BECAUSE HE ACKNOWLEDGES THE ISSUES ! THAT THEY HAD ! HE LITERALLY SEES THE PROBLEM AND IS LIKE OH MAN THAT WAS REALLY FUCKED UP OF ME . BUT THE SHOW DOESNT EVEN GIVE THEM A *CHANCE* TO TRY AND MAKE IT WORK AGAIN . I FULLY BELIEVE THAT THEY DID LOVE EACH OTHER! A LOT! SIMON JUST WASNT PERCEPTIVE THAT SHE WAS DOING SO MUCH FOR HIM AND IT LEAD TO BOTH THEIR DOWNFALLS- THAT IS LITERALLY FIXABLE. im just saying it wouldve taken one conversation MAX to fix this issue, AND GOLBETTY WAS CLEARLY READY TO TALK TO HIM?? LIKE HE ALREADY LEARNED HIS LESSON TOO . SO WHY . AUGH. "THE GOLBETTY BUS IS ABOUT HOW SHES MOVING ON TO A PLACE HE CANT FOLLOW" BITCH SHE IS A GOD OF CHAOS WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE MOVING ON TOO. LIKE HE IS LITERALLY ALL SHE HAS CONNECTING HER TO REALITY. SHES GONNA GO TO CHAOS GOD THERAPY? BITCH? IM NOT SAYING LIKE "IN A REGULAR RELATIONSHIP YOU *CAN* FIX HIM DONT GIVE UP KEEP SACRIFICING GIRL!" BUT NOT ONLY IS THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT BUT SHES NOT SACRIFICING ANYTHING ANY MORE . HES JUST FINALLY READY TO LISTEN. AND *THATS* WHEN SHE LEAVES. FUCK. OFF. AUGH. so overall umm i really liked all the golbetty scenes and . i thought they were really cool episodes :) i liked how a the rest of it was handled actually! and i will be wiping the conclusion of their arc from my mind :3
i will be posting gifsets/hq screencaps of my sexy big nonverbal wife on my sideblog @huge-wife later so keep . an eye out for that!!

Ok me and a friend got talking and. heres (some of) the things I personally would do if tasked with rewriting Mystreet.
[very brief mentions of Katelyn, Garte + the Lycan parents :>]
Im totally stealing this idea from @bread--squid--uwu but Aph's name is Aphrodite now. Makes sense with the guys all being into her, still keeps the nickname, makes sense for Sylvanna etc
Reducing the ages. It makes noooooo sense to me that theyre all like, 35. They're fresh out of college, like 21-23.
Magic would either be a big part of the world building or removed entirely. Not a fan of the soft magic system. If removed, Lucinda would be a more like, herbs + the moon kinda witch you know? She also likes DnD
knowing more about peoples backstory! Laurance in particular has such little clarification on his family and upbringing
We get to know about all the shady goings on of the Ro'Meave household because theres no way Garte is a good man i do NOT trust him
Katelyn + Travis don't get back together
Aphmau goes to a different college to the others and meets Aaron (max of 2 years older) there because I'd personally like it more if the rest of the group didn't know him beforehand! That way Gar and Laur are able to be upset with the idea of him. I like the idea that they get so in their own heads that they plan out a whole argument that Aaron just. doesn't take the bait on at ALL and they realise that maybe theyre in the wrong for jumping to conclusions.
The ultima Werewolf thing would have to be totally revamped idc. I dont remember how its explained in the show, but I like the idea of it being a curse on the family possibly by Lucinda's ancestors. (Melissa + Lucinda could have a moment too!)
KC has like a common Japanese name because it reflects her fear of being forgettable (?). Also she is actually asian
CHARACTERS HAVE LAST NAMES. Except for Lucinda because again, I want the magic to be more prevalent and I think its cute that shes kinda the odd one out
Zane is Autistic and its discussed! I want Garroth to learn to respect his boundaries
On the same note, Garroth and Zane actually make up. I think Zane and Laurance being worsties is fun but the brothers need to be on neutral ground at LEAST.
Aaron is introduced early on. I don't really care how, but him being introduced half way into season 1 is partly the reason Aarmau is so rushed
People have identities. Not everyone needs an exploration or a label, but at the very least, Katelyn is Bisexual throughout the series and Garroth, Laurance, Melissa, Lucinda and Teony are some flavour of gay
Teony is more relevant. she doesn't have to be in the main group but I'd love to see her more like she works at the mall or smthn
The Garroth/Laurance/Aph dynamic changes majorly. They still constantly are trying to one-up each other by sweeping her off her feet but its more playful than anything serious. They get super competitive abt it but its still a but of fun. Whether she likes either of them isn't important. What is, though, is that Gar + Laur are absolutely unknowingly competing for eachother's attention. Maybe theres a cringy little moment where theyre like, "Well I would take her to get SUSHI!" "well I would- wait I LOVE sushi!" you know what I mean? also they actually have a conversation about the kiss at the play instead of just incoherently screaming (theres also some of that tho)
The Lycan family dont get a redemption arc
Dante and Aphmau need something because they could be sooo good but their dynamic is lacking so theyre cousins now. Maria and Sylvanna are sisters or something i dont know.
Also, Gene doesnt have that weird thing going on with Aph in high-school. He's now her friend who gives her a twix sometimes and hisses at Ivy
Totally biased but Id really want Garroth and Laurance's queerness explored. If its a first for either or both of them, how they feel about it, how they're navigating it. I want them coming out to not be a big deal but I want it to be a realisation.
I dont remember who came up with this but Laurance had Cadenza dye his hair ginger for a while because he wanted to feel like part of the new family? adorable. love it. Also Caleb doesnt exist purely because he throws a wrench in the adoption thing
The street has a name. I dont care what but it has a name
Id do something different with the maid cafe, not sure what yet. I dont think Aph would own it, though.
Aphmau's character is more of what it was in season one. Like the girl you call when youre drunk at 2am and she makes sure you get home safe and then brings you sweets kinda vibe? shed get you out of a tough situation
Aaron + Aphmaus relationship is a more relaxed version of what it was in season one, too. They can be romantic or platonic, but they like watching movies and teasing each other not. doing whatever they do in s3 and onwards.
PEOPLE SAY SORRY.
Dante & Travis: The Show is a podcast that Dante and Travis run twice a week. Its world renowned (16 regular viewers)
Garroth is british. Britain exists in this universe and any towns/cities/villages Jess named are somewhere within the USA
Laurance characters get consistent colour pallets.
Dante is trans literally just so i can fight off Squid's Two minute Two Dick Dante agenda (/j)

since we've got the discussion ball rolling, what did you think of macaques arc through season 3 and embrace your destiny?
i personally really enjoyed it! i think the writers did a good job not using him too much during s3 and loved the way his demeanor completely changes in ep9. i liked his "redemption" in EYD because it wasnt even really a redemption. hes not a good guy now hes just not a villain any more.
i think its also a plus that unlike some villain-hero team ups *cough* she-ra *cough* none of the cast (except maybe mk but thats up for debate) immediately (or at all) even like macaque, swk doesnt like him, pigsy doesnt like him, it feels more natural i guess?
im asking cause i remember you posting about want a sacrifice-redemption for him.
(sorry for all the long asks also)
Don’t apologize for these asks! I love them! They fuel me!
I don’t have much to add to this one, though, cause I agree with everything you said lol
I think they gave him the amount of time he needed and no more. I didn’t feel like anything with Macaque was unnecessary, especially considering how complicated his relationship with the heroes is. (Like how he started out purely wanting to mess with Wukong via using MK as a tool for that (cough-cough MK was Macaque’s weapon against Wukong) and then was dragged into fighting them because of LBD.
The moment where MK tells Macaque “Then be a warrior.” was SOOOOO satisfying and awesome and I’m pretty confident in saying THAT was the moment his arc came to a satisfying conclusion.
I wouldn’t say even MK immediately liked Macaque, though. I think he’s just more open to him by the end due to a character trait of being more emphatic to others. I mean, he was kinda yelling and fussing and acting frustrated with Macaque when they had him tied up. MK literally told him to shut up cause he was in time-out.
As for my posts about there not being a god-dang point if we didn’t get an ending that would match with “Leave Out All the Rest” from Linkin Park… those were mostly a joke.
Yes I really wanted that and was heavily advocating for it but I was also, much more quietly, bringing up the “Goes off to live isolated from everyone else and occasionally helps the gang in ‘enemy of my enemy is my friend’ style with bonus points if he causes minor mischief from time to time” possibility. (Heck, that possibility is what I was already going with for my stories with my spicynoodles fankids and having Xiaobo sneak off to bug Macaque into training him. The cast basically has a “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” relationship with Macaque in that universe)
The only thing I knew I 100% did NOT want from Macaque was for him to completely join the good guys and be considered a member of the team. Worse yet if Wukong’s mistakes with how he treated Macaque were treated as worse than how Macaque has responded to and treated others because of it. ESPECIALLY if Wukong never gets a chance to tell his side of what happened. (I am still holding strong to the theory that Macaque is an unreliable narrator)
It feels like making him a hero on the team similar to A:TLA’s Zuko would have cheapened Red Son’s arc since he is so clearly on that path and much further along it.
I’m glad we got what we did, even if I would have LOVED a redemption sacrifice.
Note that I never actually watched She-Ra and know so little about it that I thought the main character’s name was Catadora until I learned about a year ago that that was actually the ship name between the characters Catra and Adora

I tried watching Shin Sekai Tori when it first came out and I could be wrong, but from what I remember it tries to show gayness as just a "phase". That kissing your same-sex friends is a way to explore teenage sexuality before eventually growing out of it and being in a "normal" (aka straight) relationship.
honestly now that ive watched more of it, what you said doesnt differ much from the conclusion i was inching towards- actually i think your interpretation is kinder
its weird. its almost portraying the same sex relationships as... animalistic. its one of the side effects of the gene splicing they did to make humans more "tame" by releasing pent up frustration through sex, like bonobos do, with both male and female mates (this is the shows wording, not mine, like, they say that...) it almost frames it as something unnatural for humans like "ohhh you messed with mother nature" much like what happened w all the weird animals.
so when this little arc ends with an m/f couple declaring their love for each other (even tho one of them dies) it almost seems like the messaging is supposed to be that... like. thats the True Human Love coming through, and the primal gay sexual attraction is the animal brain version. its not The Human Heart it was just a mutation artificially created within the body
like you could look at the characters on a surface level and think "oh cool theyre all bi" but that doesnt seem to really be true, like you said about it being a phase to grow out of. it sort of just seems like its about teens not being able to control their hormones but with a weird added "they have bonobo dna that makes them gay" thing. but ofc thats just attraction and true love is still between a man and a woman, the rest are portrayed as uncanny far more sexualized
though to be honest i dont think that this is what the series WANTS to say about lgbt relationships, i just think its very mishandled and isnt considering the real world meanings of what its portraying. that doesnt make the impact go away however which is why im being vigilant about it in general.
but i still do plan to finish it eventually, partly because i just sort of want to see where it goes (with plotpoints outside of this), but also because i feel like i cant make any complete judgements on it without actually seeing it through, because this is only based on like, a 2-episode-long arc (even though its really fucking weird) so we'll see where it goes from here. im not going to ignore stuff like that tho, dont worry, i couldnt turn the overly critical part of my brain off if i tried lol

i enjoy the extreme hindsight in the manga, and there is an ongoing mystery that have been pointed out twice: who ebisu was talking to that Miki overheard and during the school festival arc, Tengu captain said that he recognized one of the students as being in the god realm when he was still a god but we didn't see their face, so i assume they are the same person. so i crossed out anyone with hair that passes their chin, just because of how the panel was shown. who do you think it is?
ebisu mystery
UEUEUEUE i honestly dont know who it could be.... i dont think its one of the more minor teachers since that seems too out of nowhere and i love all the students too much my heart would break.....
pretty long post so the rest under the cut
ive seen discussion that it could be mouse sensei, since he got all buddy buddy with haruaki suddenly at the start of the sports day arc in volume 3 for no reason (no reason that i could find going through those first 3 volumes)
the thing is, i feel like, it cant be a TOO minor character since that feels like an ass pull, and it cant be a character we know too much about like renren, mame, the usual guys
... theres a non-zero chance its mame, but that would be fucked up and i would crumble to dust
and mouse sensei kinda falls into that sweet spot of important enough character that we dont know everything about (i mean, i dont think its him tho, idk)
i feel like sports day hijita
Tumblr media
in conclusion: nothing conclusive
ranmaru mystery
Tumblr media
wait, ok, before i grabbed this screenshot i thought it was haruaki since its the same qipao, but i just now noticed he doesnt have his signature bracelet
im not sure long hair = automatic rule out, since hair can be tied up
so it comes down to this
Tumblr media
(thank you ch 57 for the handy chart. ive gotten so much mileage out of this page)
red crossed out are ones where their outfit is shown and doesnt match, or for other reasons (like the non organic youkai) hijita wears a similar qipao, but he always wears gloves and only has 3 fingers under the gloves
question marks = was wearing same style of qipao
odawara and koizumi......unlikely i feel like
so we're left with kurahashi, oota, satsuki, fuji, ogata twins
last year i thought it could be satsuki, and shes not totally off the table, but i feel like its not her
fuji, oota, kurahashi...... also feel unlikely
ogata twins seemed like the obvious ones from the outset, so it feels like a red herring, but it would be exactly this manga's brand of fucked up for only one of them to be the spy lol
in conclusion: still net zero information. i dont know shit
btw, in hindsight, pretty safe to say the spy tipped ebisu off that they were going on a field trip to tokyo that time, and ebisu was probably like "chances are if i walk around i'll run into haruaki". like, he didnt seem like he was there for anything else exactly, mans went shopping with him

MANGA CH. 284 SPOILERS
Tumblr media
OF REDEMPTIONS AND ATONEMENTS:
We all been knew, man. We all knew this was coming.
And godDAMN does it fucking HURT. (oh the sweet sweet angstfest this whole chapter is, just *chef's kiss*)
But i legit cannot put into words how deep the choice to 'Atone' cuts on my bleeding bkdk heart. Let's first take a step back and see how Katsuki went from DvK2 to here- that one keystone moment that has given us this beautiful chapter: And I meant ALLLL the way back to Chap. 252
Tumblr media
I have already written a whole-ass post based on this panel, which you can check Here.
TL;DR Katsuki was actually paying real close attention to Endeavour in this part. He came to Endeavour to learn exactly what he was missing as a Hero, but he learnt so much more.
This scene in particular left a momentous impact on Kacchan. Here, Natsuo is resistant to the idea of forgiving his father for all his sins just because he is more involved in their lives now. And Endeavour had been dreaming for a while about a Home where he is not present with the rest of the Todoroki's which ultimately gave him the idea of buying a house for the others to live in apart from him. This is HUGE. This is what actually drove Endeavour's Redemption home- the perfect understanding and the perfect compensation, the two elements of a brilliant Redemption Arc. NOT THE FORGIVENESS, just as Enji says it. It is NEVER ABOUT THE FORGIVENESS.
Endeavour understood that it was his presence that caused his family distress, and although he dearly wanted to be a part of his family again, was even making efforts towards it by being cordial and accepting of Shouto's friends, inviting them to a family dinner, etc. etc. Endeavour realized the only way he can compensate/atone was to give up something that would cause him suffering, and them happiness. The idea that your family doesnt want you, when you just started to show some effort and HOPE that they might see you in different light, maybe forgive you and then to just terminate those ties entirely, punting yourself into a void where NO ONE CAN COME IN AND SAVE YOU FROM YOUR SUFFERING, is exactly what Endeavour did. He is actively shutting down the ONE window through which his family could see that he was suffering, and miserable, and wanted to be a part of the family again. Endeavour CHOSE to not be forgiven. To writhe with the knowledge of his sins day in and day out with only the shrine of Dabi Touya to haunt him every waking minute.
I cannot explain just how much determination it takes to do that, man. It's just- WOW.
Excuse me for ranting on Endeavour in a bkdk post, but I swear this has a point. And All Might says this the best:
Tumblr media
This is the fanlation, the official release (which I couldnt get my hands on) also mentions that "When I meant you were like Endeavour, I meant the Change"
This here is an important bit that AM has caught onto.
In the 252 panel, where Endeavour says 'It's not like I want forgiveness' (Because Endeavour understands he cannot be, should not be, forgiven) "I just want to make up for everything I have done" (and to back this up, Endeavour shuts down the one communication link that could have offered him forgiveness, and thus salvation from the weight of his sins and his guilt)
Katsuki understood Endeavour's idea of redemption very well here, although he might not be shown with that light-bulb moment. He may have already known this wayyy before Endeavour said anything, but those words lent a solidity and to the path he must persue to acheive redemption: And it's Not forgiveness.
Let me tell you why I think Atonement is the greater factor here, even greater than Redemption itself. Redemption has an end-point: Forgiveness. But Atonement doesn't. Atonement has no expiry date. Atonement is purely propelled by the understanding of self, and the weight of guilt the self bears, whereas a Redemption is All About The Forgiveness.
Forgiveness is an external force, it may or may not be given to you and that is completely up to the person who has been wronged. Atonement is self-imposed, it is a meditation of the soul to forgive itself against the guilt it carries.
If Redemption is a marathon with a banner at the finish line, Atonement is trying to drag a twenty pounds of rocks through the Sahara desert without water, food or a compass- it's endless, hopeless.
And this is why Atonement is greater than Redemption.
And do you think someone as stubborn as Kastuki will ever find himself atoned of his deeds? No. And That, my friends, is The Point. In 252, when Endeavour says, "I dont want forgiveness" it's not just him saying it- it's also Katsuki. "I just want to make it upto you", is also Katsuki.
And to prove it, Katsuki will never ask for forgiveness. A verbal apology will be nice, sure. Especially since dumb-ass, gay-ass, 'Kacchan-sugoi' ass Izuku Doesn't even See it as Atonement. He is just #Blessed that Kacchan and he can talk almost-naturally again. And that is also Katsuki's intention- because the moment Izuku knows, he won't be able to atone this way anymore.
So, as much as I HATE to say this, the chances of a voluntary verbal apology are slim. If allowed to go on like this, Kacchan with continue to shadow Izuku through his life, worrying about him, LOSING SLEEP OVER HIM :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT THOSE BAGS UNDER HIS EYES. /*shoves panels in yo face*/LOOK
Can you believe this bitch-ass gremlin who goes to sleep at 8:30 got bags just from stressing over his Deku??????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM DOING A HECCIN' MAJOR KOKORO-STOPPING CONCERN.
(He is flipping his shit because he worries, and he worries so much, and has worried for him for a long LONG time.)
- Katsuki will continue on this path of being Izuku's support.
Forever if it takes.
Forever, he hopes, it takes-
Because the only way he will stop is in death, either his own or Deku's.
This is his Atonement: To undo everything he once did, to support Izuku's dream instead of squashing it; To help him get stronger instead of perpetuating the narrative on his weakness; To protect him from all harm, when he once hurt; To be on his side when the whole world is against him, because once he was all, but, for him; To save Izuku as he wins, to win as he saves.
And, To deny each oppurtunity of forgiveness even as he desperately longs to be unburdened of his guilt.
Because Katsuki knows:
Tumblr media
He knows Izuku is that one of a million, he is kind and humble and considerate and loving to a fault.
Katsuki knows that Izuku will forgive him in a heartbeat. That is just the kind of selfless, beautiful person he is.
Unlike Endeavour, who had no guarantee to forgiveness, Katsuki does. And that is what makes Katsuki's Atonement more powerful than Endeavour's. He recognizes it is in his grasp, just an arm's length away...
Tumblr media
....Just an arm's length.
And Katsuki will deny himself that. Because he does not believe he deserves it. He hasn't atoned enough for it.
"Keep At Arm's Length"
He says. Because this is the critical distance between them. Not "Stay an arm's length away", because Katsuki doesn't wanna run away from Deku, and he doesn't want to be too far away to protect him, nor does he want to get too close to finally recieve the forgiveness that will give him salvation.
This is the fine balancing act Katsuki must maintain indefintely till he believes he has acheived his idea of atonement. (And when has he ever been happy just the bare minimum?)
I know I said Katsuki will never ask for forgiveness, and a voluntary verbal apology is very unlikely, because in it's very nature, it is inviting a forgiveness from Izuku, which we have established, Katsuki wants to avoid. And if this were any other manga, we would have been doomed to this conclusion. But, there is a scenario when Katsuki might issue a verbal apology and that is when Katsuki knows there isn't enough time to be forgiven in turn, or, hasn't atoned enough and can no longer continue to.
Like when Katsuki launches off, to deliver a final kamikaze blow to a villain, and he has only enough time to tell Deku a short "I am sorry", but not enough time to wait for a reply. Or when Deku is dying and at his final moments, when Katsuki knows however much he has atoned isn't enough and isn't how Deku should leave, without closure.
Whatever the future may hold, my dear readers, Katsuki still has a long, long way to go. And I hope to see him live through everything, to be there -
To survive these wars with Deku, To fight alongside him, To protect him. To win. To save.
To Live.
To hear Deku say "I had forgiven you a long time ago";
and ofcourse,
To forgive himself.

Let’s Talk About This #2
(Also just want to say sorry for like flooding everyone’s dash with these unsolicited perspectives lol I have no control.)
Tumblr media
Alright, it’s safe to say we all go bonkers over this scene. It’s really, very impressive and successfully served as one of those “WOW” moments interspersed throughout the episode arc, further reinforcing the Bad Batch’s overall demonstration of skill and forte. They definitely got their moments to shine as individuals as well as paired within the group, setting out to establish certain dynamics, which was very masterful on the creators’ part, laying the groundwork (however faintly) so that it may culminate at a later date (i.e. their upcoming series). These moments absolutely serve as that nuance for us to collect and mull over until then.
So I love, love, love this pairing of Tech and Crosshair.
They team up really well together. I really enjoy the implied dynamics these two in particular share; this is not the only instance in which they are segmented deliberately.
So I rewatched this over and over reached a few conclusions, noticed a few details that really liven up an already stellar scene.
1st thing I didn’t initially notice: Tech steps into the position. Yes, Crosshair angles himself accordingly behind him, but Tech steps to his right just as the barrel is rested on his shoulder and Crosshair slides left. It kind of took me a few watches to notice that; it’s timed really well.
“Relax. I’ll handle this.”
Tech does not even BLINK at that. He doesnt even question it; he doesn’t need to. Tech doesn’t need to turn around and look, to confer with Crosshair first, he just steps into it and cants his head to the side. He knew. He knew what that meant. When Crosshair says he’ll handle something, you better believe that he’ll handle it. Those are not the words of an airhead—those are the words of a sniper. For Crosshair, it’s his assurance that he is going to handle things in his terrifyingly competent way. This is not at all lost on Tech. This is obviously a well practiced move.
(That being said, I wonder if they have a name for it the way they do for other strategies).
This is but another subtlety that conveys to us that the Bad Batch have excellent communication skills with each other. They correspond and adapt, they are not confined within the strains of tactic; they have acknowledged and accounted for every possible outcome and can adjust without a hitch, each member and his designated skill stepping up whenever and wherever the situations calls. And that is what makes them so effective. They distribute the workload, and can acknowledge when maybe one of them is more outfitted for a task than the other is at that moment. When they work together, it’s not a matter of who can outshine/outperform the other (Crosshair and Wrecker’s harmless competitions aside). They are just so cohesive as a unit, it’s not a superiority complex; for them, they are just doing their job, as Hunter says. They’re like an orchestra; each have a different instrument, a different tune to play, and damn do they play it well.
Sorry, I got a little off track.
2nd thing I didn’t initially notice: So as if the act wasn’t impressive enough, Crosshair doesn’t even require two hands for it. With his left hand he fits his rifle with the proper attachments and then arcs that arm out to the side. It does not fall to his side or even come back to his frame at all. And I really speculate that—really have been straining to see if—he instead rests it atop Tech’s left shoulder or on his arm or even his pack, maybe as a way to steady the both of them. I mean, with the way Crosshair’s arm moves to the side like that and then disappears from frame, away from his frame, it really does lead me to believe that he has positioned it somewhere on Tech.
And. I. Love. That.
So anyway this is just another absurd account of me simping over these boys. And I am very much looking forward to (and hoping for!) more scenes like this between each member. They are great.

Whats ur opinions on the crimson arc so far? do you like how its going? any theories in what would happen next? im sorry if its a lot, i just miss your rambling
oooo thank you so much for the ask! its so nice that you actually like my rambling qwq youre too kind!
and YES, the egg arc, i havent really talked about it since the red skeppy arc, but i have been (mostly) keeping up! i am a true unabashed bbh apologist, its so fascinating how persuasive he can be, he manages to keep me rooting for him despite all logical conclusions pointing to the egg actually not being all that great for the smp. i love the way he revealed that he was under the influence of the egg, and that he implied that he gave in to the crimson after skeppy showed no signs of getting better. honestly, my biggest gripe is how the small red skeppy segment played out, there was a perfect opportunity to loop techno into the arc while also not directly facing him with the egg, skeppy becoming another refuge in his cabin like ranboo, and techno trying to figure out whats wrong with him. also, the bathwater solution was... a little confusing, but honestly, i dont blame either of them for red skeppy devolving into an almost comedic side-arc, skeppy doesnt seem to really enjoy that kind of roleplay and bad clearly got too emotional when dealing with those topics, so im glad they changed it up for the sake of their own comfort.
and while i love the arc and how its going, one of my biggest flaws is being overly-critical, so i cant help but be a bit hesitant when it doesnt go the way i think it should. again, totally a me problem, because honestly, its going great even without heading in the direction i thought it should. i love how they bring in lesser focused on “side characters” to the story, giving them development and time to shine, in contrast to how as soon as tommy and tubbo got involved herds of people were ready to call out the arc. in any sci-fi universe, though i enjoy some ridiculous and far-out concepts, at its base i most appreciate it being realistic enough to, in a certain universe or fantasy, it could be real. i like the alien aspects to still follow a set amount of rules, rules that cant be broken without completely skewing the original idea. most of the “rules” for the egg go as follows, you either like it or hate it, it turns blue things red, and red things white, enough time with the egg will convert you into liking it, obsidian and holy water can slow its spread. now, i, like a few others, suspect some of these rules, like the holy water, of being over-exaggerated to bring an advantage to the eggpire, but i think the rest of them are pretty solid and shown in the canon. so, my problem with tommys involvement is that he directly contradicts one of the rules, like every other overpowered mary sue protagonist. i know bad probably wrote this in and there will be an explanation or plot point or whatever, but it still irks me, especially when hes also threatening to break another rule, that the egg cant convert him into liking it. this is obviously setting him up to be the “main character” or “hero” but i honestly hope he just leaves it alone. he wont even take the threat seriously, and there are many better alternatives like puffy or awesam. i know most people are hoping for puffy as the main hero, and it would make sense! she follows all the rules, while also finding ways around the eggpire and trying to stop them.
overall, i love the way they use the environment to their advantage in storytelling, i love how its not another basic man v man conflict that, in the end, depends on how stacked you are and your pvp skills. i love that theres mystery in how the egg even appeared, and how different people are used in the story. some things feel a little hasty, but only small things. not to mention bads incorporation of fanart. its really great and people should be giving it the appreciation it deserves, deffo one of the best plots on the server. again, tysm for the ask, i went on a LONG time about this oops.

final verdict (obvi all of the eps were fantastic but my rankings are):
phantom apprentice > old friends not forgotten > shattered > victory and death
explanation and spoilers under the cut
victory and death was just SO sad i dont think ill ever b able to rewatch it. that doesnt make it worse, obviously, but i just caaaaaant like physically cant deal. its too sad. im glad it was sad! i love when media makes me cry. the episode ended and i just fuckin broke down and sobbed for like half an hour. like.... dave cudve given us some happy? or a sliver of hope. maybe if we didnt KNOW that rex and ahsoka were going to survive then the fact that they survived would have been hopeful but since we already KNEW.... idk. just the fact that her WHOLE battalion died is too sad. i guess like. darth maul got a happy ending. even in revenge of the sith it was like “anakins kids are a new hope!” but here we got NONE of that. it kind of had to be like that i guess. anakin being vader was set in stone since 1980. but like... cmon dave. u cudve changed it. we wudntve been mad. it was also just really short, and im sure that wont be an issue when i watch this arc all together as a movie, but it was just SUPER short. maybe this one will move up in my list after i’ve had some time to process it all.
shattered was also really good. my my new favorite thing ever is ahsoka and maul’s interaction bcuz that was comedy GOLD. i liked that at least ahsoka knew WHY the clones turned on her, which is guess makes it a little happier bcuz the rest of the jedi like obi-wan still have no idea what happened. ugh it was still a lot tho. liked her last convo with bo and with the jedi council. and ahsoka and maul’s vision of anakin was rly cool. i think my biggest issue (which is not even that huge of an issue) with these last 2 eps is that if felt pretty claustrophobic and monotonous bcuz it was mostly set on this one ship.
old friends not forgotten was basically perfect. i think anakin and ahsokas reuinion was done really well, though i still wished they had hugged. :(. the opening with anakin and obi-wan when i first watched the episode didn’t really resonate with me but now, knowing that that’s essentially ALL we get of them in this whole arc, im really really that thats there and i like it a whole lot more now. ugh i miss them. its so sad. ahsokas argument with obi-wan was also really good. i like how you can take either side because theyre both sort of right and sort of wrong. the action sequence with ahsoka landing on mandalore is, i still think so, the BEST action sequence in all of star wars. im so proud of my girl. perfect way to start the last arc of the show and remind us of everything we are about to lose. it ties into revenge of the sith really well, i think even better than these other ones. the fact that we KNOW what’s going to happen to these characters is what makes this episode, especially because that knowledge is kind of a hindrance to the other episodes in this arc.
phantom apprentice is literally a perfect episode. there is so much to love about this. it is actually PEAK star wars. like this is the best its gonna get. why cudnt the sequels be this good? also... none of it was set on a ship which was nice. theres really nothing i dislike about this episode so ill just talk about everything that was great about it. the set pieces were beautiful, highlighted by the gorgeous animation, the fight choreography was amazing and it really felt like it was 2 real people (which is was) who KNEW what they were doing and were actually trying to kill each other, again, every interaction with ahsoka and maul was perfect, they really made his character SO interesting by making him like... right? about everything.  like he actually wanted to save the galaxy, thats really interesting. ahsoka SHOULD have joined him but thats the whole point. she has too much faith in anakin. on that note, i loved how much they talked about anakin. I loved ahsoka’s conversation with obi-wan this one also is really good at tying in with revenge of the sith, and showing how these stories happen simultaneously. the other good thing about this is that we DONT know what happens at all. in the other episodes we at least have an IDEA of whats going to happen, but ahsoka and mauls story here is completely new. this is all new information. there was even a bit of politics in there with bo and ahsoka about the siege. but ya overall id say maul is what makes this episode so incredible. he’s just great in this one. im so glad this episode exists because now i can definitively say that i have a favorite clone wars episode.
conclusion: i just wish i couldve gotten into a show that has a happy ending. why does the ONE series that im so in love with have the saddest ending possible??? i really hate to think about this but.... this series might have just been better with a happy ending. it may have been more fun to see our faves overcome all of these obstacles, even if it was hard. obvi the jedi order would have to go through some reforms, but if the series had ended with at least anakin, ahsoka, padme, obi-wan, rex, and the clones  being TOGETHER, that may have actually been better than a tragic ending. i think anakin and ahsoka’s relationship is really the heart of this series, and what reeeaaally hits is them both thinking the other is dead at the end of this series, only to meet later as enemies. it’s just so sad. dave, what do you have to say for yourself?

Let's talk about Eric Effiong
Let's be honest Eric's storyline and characterization is one of the most appealing out of all the characters in Sex Education periodt. A true gay, fierce, Drag QUEEN and I feel like ranting about this amazing force of nature. (Spoilers. Duh.)
When I saw the trailer for Sex Education it didnt even hit me that Eric was gay until I read the synopsis. Was just like "Oh I wonder which one of these three mains are the gay one people keep talking about" even after I saw him in drag like a dumbass 😣😂. Personally im glad we've reached a point where gay guys aren't overly feminine and even the brightest colours won't differ a character from the rest (unless I'm just a blind bish and he was obviously gay from the trailer) ei 👏🏾 ther 👏🏾 way; his character was refreshing when I started watching the show. I immediately clicked with him and knew what every look he gave or hand gesture he did meant. Felt nice. When Adam pushed him into the locker for the first time and started with the heterohomoerotic bs I knew that Adam had a raging boner for Eric and was another internalized homophobic bully™ and wasn't really excited for what was to come but I knew it was coming and tbh I liked it in the end.
Eric and Otis' friendship is so pure. Like?!? Get me a straight supportive bestie lilke Otis? Ik they fought but even then Otis was respectful and kept his boundaries and let Eric go through the motions before immediately belting into an apology at the first chance he got. Their dancing scene?!? Iconic. The fact that Eric sees Otis' house as safe and another home?!? Iconic. Otis going drag with Eric to watch an LGBT+ movie as a TRADITION (meaning they've done it numerous times)?!?! Iconic. The fact that Otis was straight up ditching Eric and Eric STILL tolerated him and let him do his thing without too much pressure!?! The most iconic of them all. Just pure love and respect all around.
I am so proud of Erics growth over the course of the season starting from a naive and scared gay doormat to facing homophia and getting beat up by those assholes on his birthday no less to losing his best friend and becoming depressed to channeling that anger into defending himself when people tried him to getting his sparkle back and coming back more fierce that ever before.
Speaking of him getting his sparkle back lets talk about that and why that scene is so important. A random guy asked Eric for directions and Eric noticed his nails were polished and the guy was wearing earrings and he was a big ole black dude. He was like Eric. When Eric noticed that the guy was out, loud, glamorous and proud he immediately switched back into the bright colourful and wonderfully gay Eric we all know and love.
THIS IS WHY REPRESENTATION MATTERS!!!!
It shows people that its okay to be who they actually are and inspires those who are lost to find or return to their true selves. Representation isn't just some offhand thing to throw on a character last minute. And even if you can relate to other characters who arent like you, it is always an amazing feeling to have a character that IS like you. It turned Eric from a popularity seeking doormat into a hurricane with 6 inch heels who was ready to straight up beat down a bully he's had for 4 years. It even inspired him to go back to church and rejoin a community that he closed off. That's exactly how it feels to have someone successful in the media and your life to look up to. Eric only interacted with that man for a few minutes but those few minutes changed his life for the better. So that's a lovely reminder for all who love to bash representation.
Back tracking to Eric's dull colourless period after the attack and his fight with Otis. It was saddening to see one of the brightest characters go dull and even the school felt it. He turned from a guy who rarely stood up for himself and what he wanted into the sass master he reserved only for his friends. All of his built up anger was released causing him to explode on Mr Hendricks (who is adorable tbh and just trying to do his best) and Anwar (I was proud of that punch you go glenn co co) and he even sounded off on his dad who he's usually passive aggressive to at worst. Just goes to show that the happiest faces can harbor the biggest pains and can snap. Moral of the story? Protect the happy few.
Eric also has a great family. Like that obviously know Erics gay and wears dresses because its all right there in his room which his parents enter at their leisure and while it seems that they're a bit homophobic its revealed that they (Erics dad at least) just wants Eric to be safe as he's already a target for being black and apart of an immigant family. He accepts Eric for who he is and what he does he just doesnt want anyone else to give him shit for it and if that's not one of the sweetest things in this world idek what is. Eric and his dad was probably one of my favorite dynamics in the show and watching his dad slowly fully accept that his son was strong and able to stand for himself he was able to become stronger too. This dynamic is important because I never see any gay black characters have a close relationship with their fathers and it was very heartwarming to watch.
Now onto Erics love life. He has a crush on the highschools other only gay guy Anwar who's the typical mean sassy gay we've all come to expect in highschool dramas. Otis saying that Eric doesnt have to have a crush on the only other openly gay guy at school was such a mood as its commonly shown that any gays in close proximity should get together. When Eric punched him I internally went "Finally!" Because all those jeers were becoming annoying. I'm glad Anwar got to come out to his mum over it though. And straight up told the audience that Eric didn't like feminine guys (alluding to him and Adams eventual clean up scene as of we didn't see it coming already).
Moving on to Adam tho, like I said we all been knew that this
Tumblr media
was indeed coming and even though I hate the bully x bullied trope I still ended up liking it and hoping that Adam would change. The building up to that kiss was long awaited from episode 1 straight through to 8 with all the longing looks that Adam kept side glancing Eric with and the face cupping and the growls and the lingering touches. I just kept going sthdjksksbslaldbd when one of those moments happened followed shortly after with disgust because gays falling for their abuser is washed up but then immediately going back to jajaklamabsldkd because im shipping trash so 🤷🏿. Eric stepping to Adam in at the ball was one of the most iconic scenes of the show (along with the "Its My Vagina" scene) and the exchange between him and Adam gave be actual chills. The tension was THICCCC. Erics OUTFIT to the ball gave me chills 😭😭 dude came to slay and had everyone at that school proper shook and I honestly could NOT be more proud. I was hoping Adam would become a better person over the course of the season but nope so hopefully they cover all the issues that Adam has in season 2 and properly give him a redeption arc cuz he's still a trashy pos he's just a disaster bi on top of it. (Adam immediately going to suck Eric off is confidence I can only dream of achieving 💀💀) The lab scene was also cute but made me mad because how could Adam look scared, confident and still be a douchebag all in the span of a few seconds was beyond me. A+ acting on Connor Swindells part. I can see why Adam would have to stay in the closet and keep their... relationship?? a secret because it seems like Headmaster Groff would be a homophobic piece of shit and would add to the ever growing list of things Adam did wrong. Even so it doesn't excuse the fact that Adam is in fact a bully and Eric deserves much better. Was sad seeing Adam being driven off from Eric in the end tho. Eric thought that Adam didn't want to see him at all and was probably heartbroken and probably thinks Adam left because of him (my poor baby 😭😭). I feel bad for Adam too because he was just starting to express himself and was at the beginning of a redemption arc when he was just wisked away from the boy he's loved for what seems to be a very long time. I just want my boys to be happy and non toxic and I wish their relationship and them all the best in Season 2.
Eric Effiong is my favorite character in the show and I really want to thank Ncuti Gatwa for portraying him so well and for the shows writers who gave him a very fleshed out character with an amazing storyline and conclusion. His growth was incredible and his strength is immeasurable. I'm 100% certain that he will be a character the community remembers for years to come. Patiently now waiting on what's to come in Season 2 💙🙌🏾.

There’s accounts I simply don’t want to engage or debate with but as they continue to make mis-statements and throw the entire destiel positive meta community under a bus I am going to hold my own opinion on my own blog.
Again, I never ever made a statement indicating surety of outcome on canon destiel.
God I am so tired of having to repeat this over and over. For anyone who has read my blog or other meta writers I tend to reblog this should be self-evident about this part of the meta community.
I strongly disagree with anyone claiming SPN dialed back on Destiel hints. In fact the whole reason—as I HAVE REPEATED HERE REPEATEDLY—I feel so strongly about the slow burn being of serious intent and not mere winking or a slash joke is how CANON DIALED IT UP. Canon things and ever thicker more crafted subtext. Things I was used to only existing in subtext crashed through to text. Characters saying things I was used to only being there by reasonable inference. Plot points flatly fully textual. It’s been a wild ride the past few seasons to me because I had reached a calmly resigned “never gonna happen and it’s only the slightest of cute nudge winks.” WAIT A MINUTE NO IT’S NOT??? WHAT IS HAPPENING WTF???
I always saw subtext, I never thought of myself as deluded for seeing a spark or a possibility there but I didn’t always feel I had this degree of canon material even if Dean & Cas’s bond was important and I shipped it with all my heart. In the past some things I saw as accidental and some as crafted subtext. That was ages ago. To some extent SPN’s TPTB it seems discovered this ship as they went along and the way it’s been written and presented and performed and crafted in canon has evolved on its own trajectory.
Current era Destiel has gone farther than I thought it ever would. S9 me is staring at S13 in particular stunned, and at the S11-14 in delighted amazement.
They didn’t dial back, they wove it even more deeply as part of the narrative and there is far too much going for me to just wave my hand and go “pfffft.”
This isn’t about PR or sound bytes or bhs stories. My views mainly rest on what I have noticed the canon doing.
This has nothing to do with whether I think TPTB will be able to fully consummate it and openly acknowledge it and I am sick of being condescended to, I am sick of having my EXTREMELY CLEARLY STATED REPEATEDLY STATED VIEWPOINTS MISREPRESENTED and I am sick of being told I am hallucinating things where I, and other meta writers, have shown our work again and again, I am sick of being patronizingly told that the lit crit rules I apply on platonic and major character arcs are suddenly invalid just because it’s for Destiel. If people can’t add 2+2 and get 4 that isn’t my problem.
I am not going to stop doing what I do because bitter people think I am a terrible person for pointing out and reacting to what canon is doing on Destiel. If I started saying now I didn’t see much to it in canon and analyzed spn from that standpoint, smiled cheerily and said “oh they’re just friends” I would feel insincere. That may be how others feel now and that’s their right. But that isn’t what I see and as a meta writer I write as honestly as I can about the canon as I see it.
“Endgame” is uncertain. Do I feel from canon that the story is telling me these two dolts are in love and should wind up together even if they don’t? Yes. Do I think this will definitely happen and canon go there for sure? No. But canon is making me feel like most of the craftspeople who make the show would like to go there if they could and if it doesn’t go there, there’s a lot of external factors on play, biases, and decisions. The story may not be permitted to just be the story it’s telling and that is a shame. That will play not just fans dirty but TPTB working to craft a story.
However, regardless of outcome I am interested in the story of Destiel as it’s unfolding. The ride itself has some rewards even if I am sad about the reasons it may never be allowed to reach its logical conclusion and fulfillment. But I support this love story and I support what various TPTB have been giving us as much as they can and I support Destiel going fully consummated open canon if things work out that way and support in general more LGBT rep and my god can we please have more same-sex slow burn hinted romances that are actually allowed to go to fulfillment instead of being a tease that lands nowhere. I want Destiel to be allowed to become.
HOW MANY MORE TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT THIS.

criticizing a pretty much universally loved series because i enjoy poking the hornet's nest
my main problems with the haunting of hill house come down to narrative structure and poorly integrated subplots. and this is entirely personal opinion so fight me.
the first five episodes? wonderful. i think they're wonderfully crafted nonlinear narratives, and work really well as the first main mystery of the series, which is how nell died. my only problem is that i really dont like luke's subplot about helping his friend? and i think the conclusion to that subplot, with his friend running away with his money, makes it feel like the entire subplot was pointless and i dont get it? like, what's it trying to say? how does this connect to the main narrative or the themes at all? it also never comes up again except in luke's hallucinations or whatever so i really dont get it. i find that a lot of the subplots about the main characters' romantic interests just dont seem to have any point, which is much more of a problem in the second half of the series.
i also really like episode six, because i love one takes, and its just a fun spooky episode. the same cant be said about the other episodes that are like episode six. the first five episodes are each centered around a single character, which is great for giving each episode a narrative arc and focus of its own, but as we go into the second half of the series, that structure is dropped. episodes seven and nine (i think) are focused on hugh and olivia, but six, eight, and ten dont have a particular structure to them. as i said, i like episode six, but eight in particular feels much more aimless than the other episodes, because it doesnt have a strong focus. this is a problem that i have with a lot of story-driven television series, that each episode feels more like an aimless collection of scenes with something big at the end to keep you watching, rather than a narrative arc that fuels the larger story. i was happy with the structure of the first half of hill house, but the second half really let me down by dropping that strong, focused structure, and i feel like it could have been cut down. if there were eight episodes, one for each of the main characters and a finale for the house, i feel like the structure would have been tighter and had better pacing. i also dont like episode ten, because going through each of the characters and resolving their subplots through dream sequences or whatever? i dont really like it, and it feels like padding.
speaking of padding! let's talk about subplots that should have either been cut or edited to be better. i already talked about luke's kind of pointless subplot with his friend whose name i cant even remember, but lets talk about the most pointless subplot of them all, the guy at the bar who haunts shirley despite the fact that he's not even dead? bar guy really feels like they forgot to give shirley a character arc and had to add him in at the last minute. he should have been cut in the first draft, i hate his guts, why is he here, he literally has no impact on the main plot! he's pointless! he shows up so late in the series and for what? so they could give shirley something to do? i hate bar guy with all of my heart and he really should have been replaced with a better subplot. speaking of stupid subplots that revolve around shirley, that whole thing where she thinks her husband is cheating on her with theo? that was pointless and cheap. i wish they did more with theo's "i feel empty" thing than a cliche cheating subplot that goes nowhere. it ties into the bar guy i guess but i do not like him so. they should have come up with a much better character arc for shirley, and also put more focus on theo's emptiness after she touches nell's body because i thought that was interesting.
there were also a few scares in the second half of the series that were just really stupid and pointless. the main one that comes to mind is when theo and hugh see some dead person crawling around in the funeral home (i think it's olivia?). it didnt seem to serve any purpose other than "oh no we need more spooky stuff uhhhhh heres a dead body that isnt very scary." i also dont really get the internal logic of the ghosts, especially when they show up outside of hill house. i thought it was implied through abigail's death that anyone who dies in hill house is stuff there? but then hat guy follows luke around, and nell and olivia show up in other places too. i guess it has to do with the metaphor. like luke's childhood experiences are haunting him, so that why he sees the ghost, and the same goes for the deaths of nell and olivia haunting the rest of the family. idk i just like horror to have internal logic. also why do most of the ghosts look like theyre real people, but hat guy is floating off the ground and stuff? i did like that some of the ghosts, like nell at the end of episode one, turned all gray like they were mimicking the statues at hill house, that was cool.
anyways, most of my complaints come from personal opinion. i know most story-driven tv shows like this dont have a strong structure to each of their episodes, but i really like when they do, and the first half of the series got my hopes up. thats also how i personally structure chapters when im writing, by giving them each their own little narrative arc that adds to the overall story, and i find it more engaging that way. i also find it hard to really care about any of the characters, and i dont know why. maybe its the way theyre written? i see people online talking about how they were crying over the finale or whatever, and i just cant understand how they care so much. i liked the series a lot more on my second watch than my first, but overall it just doesnt hit a chord in me like other stories do.

so there’s a difference in LGBT representation. an LGBT character in a niche media like TAZ or a webcomic is less of a big deal then a LGBT character on a mainstream popular television show. A character being gay when the cast is already mostly LGBT, along with the creator and most of the audience, is less of big deal then a character being gay on a popular disney cartoon.
anyway this is a segway for me to talk about how fucking well done Paintbrush’s gender is revealed in inanimate insanity. II is a cartoon on youtube thats been around for a long time, around 7 years. Paintbrush back then was a “cant tell if you’re a boy or a girl joke! haha androgyny”. Adam, the creator, realized the joke was shitty and stopped it and developed Paintbrush’s character and in the most recent episode, PB came out as nonbinary
and its done SO WELL. it wasnt pandering, it was a natural conclusion to PB’s character arc and their relationship with Lightbulb. They got into a fight at the beginning of the episode and when they reconcile in the end, PB comes out (actual video here http://lnanimatelnsanity.tumblr.com/post/169697454478/im-cryign-canon-nonbinary-character-in-a-show ) The conversation is very in character for the both of them and is part of the natural flow of the conversation. heres a list of Big Things I LIke
PB says that they think other people wont understand and they dont feel comfortable coming out to them. a lot of LGBT niche media has nonbinary characters nonbinary around with everyone immediately accepting them, but in the canon of this show, PB was made fun of for their gender. Of course they feel uncomfortable!
Lightbulb is totally chill and accepting as says people who dont understand suck and in general is 100% supporitive and i die because theres a scene after where theres a nother really good moment and it really solidifies their friendship. PB only told lighbulb because they TRUST her, because shes their best friend, even though PB doesnt understand LB
It’s in a show with a large audience of younger kids with absloutely no history of LGBT characters so paintbrush being confirmed NB was a high hope that i didnt even think was going to come true.
Even though neither character says nonbinary out loud, its obviously thats what their conversation is about in context of Lightbulb previously calling Paintbrush boy/girl/variation and PB not being happy about it
In the comments pinned is the creator confirming Paintbrush as nonbinary, actually saying the word nonbinary. He uses they/them for them as does the rest of the tream
in general it felt no way forced whatsoever. it was just an event that solidfied their rocky relationship into best friendship. It could’ve been any other secret or bonding moment. Lightbulb could’ve given PB a gift or just talked about feelings and it would’ve had the same plot effect. PB’s gender isn’t irrelevent, but it’s also not their entire character.
Im just still screaming about how well thought out and respectful this was done for show made by a guy currently in college that he started in middle school and seeing the creator grow so much as a person is amazing
its been two weeks since the episode came out but im still screaming about how well done the scene is and there was 100% no way the team could’ve done it better.
thats EXACTLY how you include a nonbinary character. not make any random character NB and have their gender be completely irrelevent other then pronouns/appearence. Have a character where their LGBTness has consquences, did it make them friends? enemies? give them confidence? make them insecure? who knows, who doesnt? LGBTness isnt inconsquential like eye color, it’s like economic status, like who their family is, like the town they grew up in. It’s something that they can’t help that effects their decisions and who they are, that can be important or not as you wish but has some effect on the character.
anyway paintbrush is good and i love them even before they were confirmed NB

Im sick of all the toxicnoorhelm posts. Im not a William stan, but I am a JULIE stan and reading all the “Julie fucked up"s really rubs me the wrong way.
So this is a season 2 recap focusing on the noorhelm plot (ive obviously forgotten stuff so feel free to ad on).
E1:
texts from William telling Noora she looks good in that sweater - she covers up
William texting and calling Vilde to make sure Noora attends his party or goes on a date with him
E2:
Noora goes on a date with W and treat him coldly. He argues against her and make a few valid points, treats her decently and calls her out on her behaviour. He does not make a good enough argument when it comes to his treatment of Vilde.
When the date ends he assures Noora shes of the hook. (Noora looks disappointed?)
E3:
Noora goes to Williams party when she hears that Vilde is upset. (She changes and put on lipstick first). When Vilde isnt there and Eva leaves with her stuff she borrowes Ws phone and talks to Eskild and LIES TO WILLIAM TELLING HIM SHE NEEDS TO SPEND THE NIGHT. (This is a tipping point cuz now Noora is the one manipulating the situation).
E4:
Easter at the cabin.
E5:
William promise to give some of the money from the "Help the Penetrators” to syrian refugees if Noora attend the party. Rumour says someones gonna pay a lot to make out with William. Nooras first respons is to suspect him paying in her name to make out with her. (That doesnt happen). She confronts W and he tells her to be honest. If she doesnt like him he’ll leave her alone. She says she doesnt and W leaves. NOORA runs after him, NOORA kisses him.
E6:
N tells W (in a obvious flirty way) that shes gonna wait till shes married to have sex. W states that then theyll just have to get married.
Enter Nico and bad communication. W refuses to introduse N to his brother because hes recovering from a bad brakeup. N gets suspicious after rumours in the schoolyard saying Nicos single and sleeping around. Vilde gets N doubting Ws fidelity since hes russ.
E7:
N wants the relationship to stay secret. They party on the bus. The fight happens and W brakes a bottle over another guys head. N leaves.
E8:
N and W discuss violence as a solution and they express very different views. N admits to Sana that shes in love and that Ws becoming the most important thing in her life. Sana calls Noora out on her need to be right ( thats not the same as saying Noora should give up her own opinions, just that she needs to make room for others than her own and that its okey to change your opinion if someone has convincing arguements). N workes things out with Vilde and goes to W to work things out with him. Nico lies, N drinks and she passes out.
E9:
N shuts everybody out obsessing over what might have happened. She feels overwhelmed at school and locks herself in her room. W shows up, comforts her and validates her feelings and help her rest. He finishes her article and DOESNT OPEN FACEBOOK WHEN SHE GETS NOTIFICATIONS.
E10:
N opens up to the girls. N confronts Nico. W asks if she slept with his brother and she answeres “I dont know”. W (is clearly hurt and) leaves. Later Noora text him telling him she doesnt remember what happened. AND WILLIAM DOESNT ANSWER. This is the shitty moment where he didnt step up when he should.
E11:
N and W finally talk and he comes back after pretending to leave/changing his mind about leaving. Lots of happy cuddling and Noora trying to take things further and W holding back.
E12:
N and W back at the appartment. N pushing for things to go further, W holding back. Police interegations. W admitting to the violence (even if everybody INCLUDING NOORA told him to lie). Party at Ws and NOORA INITIATING SEX.
Conclusion: both do questionable stuff. Both fuck up. Both suck at communication. Both are flawed human beings just like everybody we meet exactly like Skam try to teach us every episode! And the no redemption arc for W argument - read the article he wrote for Noora. Thats his redemption.

Regarding Lion 4
From the very beggining it was apparent what the episode was gonna be about and all i though was “i cant wait for this to end”, and not in the good way.
Thought this episode made a huge difference for steven, i feel like it could be skipped entirely for someone watching the series and they’d lose nothing. No humour, no plot advancement, and the only real char interaction is steven watching the nora tape, and while that was good, it doesnt justify the rest of this episode, and honestly, it was painful watching steven be so serious and stressed about finding his destiny.
The whole idea of him having a “purpose” like there’s something he’s SUPPOSED to do, supposed TO BE, was honestly very personally unconfortable for me (it’s dehumanizing!! objects have purposes, not people!!), as well, kind ironic??? Wasnt half of the point of the rebellion to allow gems to forego their “purposes” they were created for, and instead let them choose for themselves how to live their lifes?
It’s a tragedy that, after all that he’s learned, Steven thinks he oughta serve a purpose, but i suppose it’s just a continuing trend. He went from thinking he should be rose quartz to thinking he should be the hero she knew she couldnt be, and it’s not weird that it took him so long to realize he doesnt have to meet anyone’s standards.
Huh… i was going to end this by saying “ultimately i’d recommend people to either skip this episode or just watch the ending”, but now that i put some thought into it,.. I think my opinion’s changed. Im not going to go back and rewrite this thing, but i changed my mind. This episode DID have something, maybe not humour, or plot, or character relationships, but it ended with HUGE character development for steven, and that might end up just what was needed to save the day i nthe future. I suppose it’s hard to see the character development because it only happens in the end of the episode and there’s no verbal or visual indicator of the change, but looking back it’s obvious it was huge.
I also suppose what he suffered in this episode was needed for the character development to happen. If Lion had just teleported him to the tape, there would’ve been no character growth.
Sorry sorry, i do tend to ramble and go on tangents a lot. Anyway, these were my opinios (and my change of them). What about yours? -@aleph-ozone ______________________________________________________________ It’s okay, I ramble a lot too! I agree with some parts that you said, such as waiting for the conclusion to the episode, concerned over Steven’s dehydration, and the idea of Steven following the ideologies of Homeworld where he feels he HAS to serve a purpose. I personally feel like this “Nora” business wasn’t needed at all. While yes, it’s important to have Steven realize that he has his own free will and can do what he wants and be who he wants to be, it felt rushed to me like Amethyst’s, “Oh by the way, I’m over my self hatred now. I don’t need wrestling anymore.” I feel like it was obvious Rose had Steven to experience what it’s like to be a human. In the same tape that was played in tonight’s episode, she plainly states that he’s going to be this incredible thing: a human; and experience life as a human. I know this topic has been discussed in the show before, but maybe an arc only centered/focused around Steven’s existential crisis and his concerns over his purpose in life would lead to a satisfying conclusion. I mean, we all have that don’t we? Why am I here? What is my purpose? Do I have a purpose? Is it okay if I don’t? What if I don’t fore fill my purpose? I think the message, “It’s okay to be uncertain about your place in the world, just enjoy life and do what you love while you are here,” would work, especially since Rose didn’t seem to have a deeper meaning to having Steven besides being able to engage in a life as a human being and do the same things humans do. Overall, I feel like they could have developed Steven’s concerns about his existence a little more. I also feel like this Nora business will be forgotten about, bleh :( Thank you for sharing your opinions!
