[ODYSSEUS]
Patroclus. Believe me when I say that I understand what it is to-
[PATROCLUS]
You don't.
How could you know what it is to gaze at him sleeping, falling into the spaces between the breaths, wondering if this is how he'll look in death?
How could you know what it is to hold him through his grief, to feel his hot tears on your face and to be glad, desperately glad, because it reminds you that he is alive?

As a reminder that good exists out there, a coworker recently confessed to me that he found out his child is questioning their identity (kid's gender redacted for this post). The kid is keeping it from him, so he can't say anything to them or show that he knows, but he's doing his best to get mentally prepared and educated so that he'll be ready whenever his kid does feel comfortable enough come to him.
For context, this guy is a big, bulky middle aged dude who loves sports and typical outdoor "manly" activities. As his coworker and friend, I know he's a kind and sweet teddy bear of a person, but his kid probably views him as a stern, authoritarian figure, the way most teenagers view their parents. His family lives in a conservative area, so I'm sure between that, their dad's looks and interests, and the fact that their dad is a Figure of Authority, the kid is worried that they won't be accepted.
But you know what? When he found out about his kid, the first thing he did was reach out to his closest queer friend and ask for resources for parents of questioning children. His biggest fears are that his kid will be bullied or discriminated against and won't feel comfortable enough to be themself. His second action was to find himself a mentor in another parent who went the same situation (kid coming out in a conservative town). The other person is preparing him for some of the struggles his kid may face and the fights he may need to take on as a parent to make sure his kid is safe and treated well.
Something I want to emphasize for people focused on language as the primary method of allyship is that when we spoke, he used some outdated terms and thoughts about gender and sexuality. That does not make him bad. These were the terms and thinking used about questioning teenagers when he was growing up and he never needed to learn more current ones. But now that he does have that need, he's throwing himself in head first because that's his kid and he's darn well going to make sure that his kid feels welcomed and has a safe place to be themselves even if they never come out to him.

it’s difficult to be a dom with anarchist leanings.
my sub will be like “i have to tell you something... i broke a rule. i’ll accept whatever punishment you see fit.” and i’m like. rise up comrade you have nothing to lose but your padded restraints. no doms no masters. oh you want me to spank you. yeah i can do that.

Bisan is calling for another global strike!
I saw some posts just outlining Jan 21st, and wanted to clarify that Bisan has called for a full seven days of action.
What a global strike would look like is:
calling in sick to work
purchasing bare essentials ahead of the week so you can observe the general boycott of goods / buying as little as you genuinely can
putting in a concerted effort to elevate Palestinian voices and make it clear that this strike is in support of a permanent ceasefire!
For those who will have to purchase necessary goods during this time, please observe the brands that the BDS movement is asking us to boycott!
♢♢♢
Right now is also a good time to mention some better uses for your money during this week.
Available e-sims in Gaza are running low!!
Mirna El Helbawi and her team are working round the clock to continue to connect Palestinians as Israel does its best to cut them off from the rest of the world.
You can learn how to purchase and send e-sims here, and below you’ll find a list of what is currently needed (the areas in brackets indicate what region you should select to buy e-sims in).
--
CareforGaza is an organisation that does verifiably good work, distributing supplies directly to Palestinian families.
They have a Gofundme set up at the moment, but because of Gofundme’s poor track record regarding refusing to transfer funds to Palestinians, I’d recommend continuing to donate directly to their PayPal here.
Good luck to all of you. Don't turn away from Palestine!

it's spotify wrapped season again and you know what that means! time to plug that wrapped playlist into hype machine's merch table tool and see if it turns up any bandcamp links where you can directly support your favorite artists of 2023! the tool is definitely not perfect or infallible, but it's a great start if you want to start compensating the artists whose music meant the most to you this year at a rate higher than the peanuts they got from your spotify streams!

I think it's sad that most people always think of bottlenoses as the "classic dolphin" since its the one that's always used for shows, and always think of dolphins as just straight grey when in reality there's so many varieties with so many different amazing patterns
Look at the common dolphin! They have a gorgeous X pattern and even some dull yellow/gold!!
Hourglass dolphins have gorgeous white streaks
Spinner dolphins have really pretty banding as well, AND they have a really sleek cute silhouette!
The atlantic spotted dolphin!!! Theyre spotted!!!!!!
and the pantropical spotted too!!
Dusky dolphins have a gorgeous airbrush look going on like straight out of a 2000s fantasy illustration
Striped dolphins sure have stripes!! How cool!!
And these I've shown you aren't even all of them at all, there are so many of them:
There's so so so many different types of dolphins people dont know about this isnt even all of them and some are SO gorgeous and underrated because people just dont know they exist so I'm here to fix that

Story time. (Sad, not real, talks about things like suicide!)
The day began as normal, I wake up got to school and see my friends. I then go to class and by lunchtime I'm exhausted. However at lunchtime I always see my best friend who means everything to me and makes me feel 1000x better.
This was everyday. I only saw them at lunch. However eventually I stopped seeing them and while panicked I call my friend.
... no answer, I try again.
... no answer, I try yet again.
.... still no answer, I still kept trying.
... no answer... I tried 50 times before I gave up.
By the next week I got a text. A text from my friend's father saying they had been ran over.
I was devastated, my only true friend, my everything... it was gone.
I didn't know until it was almost two weeks after!
I felt horrible.
Awful.
How could I have done that!
How could I have let my friend be dead for a week and not try finding out about it sooner!
I was a horrible person...
I should die.
I have access to the school rooftop tomorrow... that school has 5 floors... that's enough to kill me... I will do it tomorrow.
The next day I woke up and went to school. I told no one what I was doing but I sent a message to my dead friend's number.
... there was an answer... a call... so one was calling me though my friends number...
I answer.
The first thing I heard on the phone was my dead friend's voice. Telling me none of it was my fault... my friend... but... they were dead!
I listened more as I sat on the rooftop now. Listening to my dead friend as they spoke. Spoke about the good memories, the bad memories, how they felt when around me. How they loved me so much and wouldn't want me to kill myself over their death.
I almost couldn't speak but I did. All I could say was, "Why did you have to die."
No answer for a while...
They finally answered. Explaining that I mustn't worry about that now, that I must continue.
However I couldn't.
I just wanted the pain to stop!
I just wanted to be with my friend.
There was nothing this voice could do to stop me as I stood up. I then took one step off...
(I do not agree to killing oneself for this reason, this is purely a story and is absolutely coincidental if at all similar to real life events. If you are suicidal or know someone who is please contact someone and get the person help before it could be too late.
Okay I shall go now. I promise to make a happy story next!)
