i finally got round to watching the last episode of Inspector Morse, i have watched quite a few episodes in the last year but i've never really managed to get into it, i think i'm just too attached to Endeavour.

anyway, my point is that i'm just very emotional about Morse and Jim Strange. they had a friendship (albeit a complicated one) that lasted for 30+ years! jim was there when morse died and had his back right until the end! morse was always a terrible friend, he lets jim down at important moments and he never fully trusted him (with good reasons at times - the masons being one of them) and yet jim is always there even when morse is pushing him away. Jim has no idea about Morse's feelings for Joan, he just wants his best mate by his side when he gets married.

jim gives morse a place to live, is the only one listening to morse in Zenana with his unexplained deaths theory (and gets himself stabbed in the process), gets him back in CID in s6, needs his help investigating george's death and doesn't give up even though morse doesn't want to know, and in IM he's still there picking up the pieces wherever morse goes.

What i think is interesting is that Jim was brought up by his grandma, i don't think it's ever said what happened to his parents or if he had any siblings. His grandma doesn't seem like a warm and friendly person, did Strange have a lonely childhood too? Does he recognise that loneliness in Morse? i think the pair of them are more alike than morse would care to admit.

episode 8 vs. episode 11

there’s such an obvious contrast. the colors were purple and blue and pink – evident of a club like setting – to show that it was nothing more than a one night stand. now, they’re yellow, warm and more intimate, proving that their feelings have grown and that there’s love between them. before, sky was on top, keeping himself far away from prapai. that way, he was in control, and no connection was forced. but this time, sky gives himself over completely and willingly. he trusts prapai enough to lie on his back, have him over him, pressed chest to chest. he doesn’t feel like he needs an escape route, because he’s no longer afraid. sky was so eager to leave after their first time, refusing to revel in the afterglow or let a stranger creep through the cracks of the walls he has so carefully constructed. but now he stays. they sleep with nothing in between them, sky talks about his past, he allows himself to be vulnerable, because prapai has proven that he can be. it’s really a beautiful thing.

Do you ever just think... About how good of a father Anthony Lockwood would be? Like years down the line he and Lucy have a kid and they give them the attic room and he's just to happy to be filling that house with new family and memories? #1 Words of Affirmation dad. #1 takes kids out to play and always makes times for them dad. "Here, I made you breakfast or packed your lunch" or "that homework looks hard, have some tea" kind of dad. Hugs his kids every day, calms them down from nightmares and stays with them til they fall asleep kind of dad. I could make an entirely separate post for Lucy, but I just think in particular that would be very cathartic for Lockwood. There'd be an ever-present fear that something could happen to him and Lucy, leaving their kids alone like he was. But he'd have so much love to give them.

It’s the way they carved out their own world for themselves. Long calls, synced up time schedules to work against differing time zones, picking each other’s voice out in a large call. making videos together, creating ideas and concepts together, planning their FUTURES together. An intermingling future. A connected future. And then getting there and being in person and seeing. And when they look at each other it’s like everything else goes away for them, that space they carved out comes back, they’re there, they’re them. They’re dream and george and they built their everything together and they have a love that is so loud in so many ways it doesn’t need to be explicitly spoken, they just love

Listen Anthea having a job in the Anyder as something vague was one thing but to know that their most likely convocation role had that been a thing would have been Halmarut and to find out that Halmarut has their like headquarters in the Anyder just! it puts it all together. Anthea would have been part of the Words of Halmarut (given that it seemed like most seats that had people working for them called them the words of) and would have found such contentment in it despite their heart always loving and missing their job and place on Elpis. But more than that Anthea would have spent time trying to find something new and not finding anything that spoke to them in some way and Hythlodaeus would have seen this and been saddened by the fact that they moved full time to Amarout for him and they weren’t fully happy.

Like sure Anthea says it’s fine, it’s okay but it isn’t and he wants them to be as happy as possible outside of their relationship. So he decides to take their file from the Bureau of Architecture and send it to the Words of Halmarut hoping that he wouldn’t have to use his influence and connections to get them a position there and he doesn’t. Not entirely a little when it’s a question of just who submitted Anthea for consideration and simply asking they give them a chance. So in the end when they get the position they ask him about it and almost don’t want to take it because they didn’t really earn it kind of deal. But that’s not the case, they earned it based on what they saw from Elpis and he only submitted it and asked Halmarut to consider them since he knew Anthea would never have done it since they didn’t believe they had the skills to do so.

Like it just! God they care for each other so much and never want the other to be diminished it’s just so special really. These two self proclaimed side characters making sure the other is a main character just gets me. Like their life together was just so peaceful and full of love and it’s like a home. Their love really is like a home that’s been lived in and feels safe and warm.
