GOLDEN HORIZONS AND BOLD TIDES
Hey guys! You remember my update about my Goldenheart Little mermaid fic that's been discontinued because I don't like the summary I made and that I'm gonna rewrite it in a different plot? Well I am while collabing with @long-distance-muse we've come up with some HC/Summary and stuff before the actuall fic cause why not (^^)人(^^)
HERE ARE SOME HEADCANONS/SUMMARY
• Valerin Adopted Bal when he was 2 years old, since his parents were killed that time and the incident gave him a scar on his face which makes him a prince of the merfolk kingdom
• Bal is a curious mer since forever, quite and shy yet he had an enchanting voice that would make anyone fall for him.
• Valerin would often tell stories of the world above from her point of view cause she knew how curious Bal is, and he loves hearing them.
• Merfolks below 16 are allowed to go above the surface if their acompanied by anyone above 16 which is the age of their adulthood.
• A merfolks life span is up to 300 years but when a human and a mers lips joined together for the first time, a mers lifespan would be cut into 200 and the human's lifespan would be the same.
• Merfolks would began to age really slowly when they reach 20 and so would a human if the 2 would kiss.
• When merfolks die their body dissolves into seafoam after their last breath and left what they last wore during their deaths.
• Bal own a garden where his most colorful flowers are gathered together of a circle like the sun.
• When Bal was 13 the noticed the guards brought home a statue of a young man around his age or maybe a year older and it was a head till it's chest.
• Bal somehow was mesmerized by it's young and handsome face, so he ask Valerin to keep the staue as a display for his garden and placed it in the center of the flowerbed and stare at it all day.
• Bal was also known for staring above, when the seas were calm, he would perch himself on a rock and stare upward for hours, watching the dim and distant star, lost in his own thoughts.
• On his 16th birthday the first thing he saw were the fireworks blasting off with different bright colors and stars in the sky so he sat on the nearest rock to gaze at it all night till the morning.
• A while after that night he found Nimona when she was in their shark form when he was collecting human items and together they would explore shipwrecks for human items.
• Nimona could have been adopted but prefer to be his Ward and Bal just accepts it.
• Nimona's still a shapeshifter and mistreated but the humans so she fled to the sea and decided to have her signature form as a mershark.
• At the age of 20, when Bal and Nimona went to the surface he spotted a ship with so many lights and music playing with the fireworks launching at the sky.
• Bal and Nimona reached the lifeboats to get a closer look, and from Bal's pov, he was amazed from the sight, so much joy, laughter, lanters glowing bright and music playing beautifuly with crafted instruments, and people were celebrating.
• But what caught his attention was him, Ambrosius, a Noble from a long bloodline of Knights, the center of attention and the man from his statue that must have grown.
• His heart was fluttered for he could not take his eyes of Ambrosius not even Nimona's voice can stop him.
• Soon a great big storm came, damaging everything from the ship, people panicked as Bal and Nimona got off the boats cause the humans are about to escape.
• Ambro wasn't able to reach the surface as he was drowning, Bal knew he was gonna die and had to save him and swim as fast as he can.
• The storm had calm while sun rose at it's peak, as Bal place Ambro laying down on the sand.
• For a moment Bal couldn't help but gaze at Ambro, his scaley hand carrassing his strong strucured face.
• He slowly placed a soft kiss in his forehead, breathing as Ambro had slowly opened his heavy eyelids halfway through but closes them again.
• Suddenly Bal heard footsteps of running and some shouting, meaning humans are coming so he heads back to the water as fast as he could and hid himself behind the rock.
• As the humans ran towards Ambro, they immediently carried his unconcoius body as Bal watches over while hiding.
• As he swam back to the sea, he couldn't stop thinking about the night he saved Ambro, how he first caught an eye on him and gaze into him.
• Every night he swims to the same shore where he dropped him off, sat on the rock on the shore, watches over Ambro sitting on the balcony as the moon shines bright, wandering on who saved him.
• He was desperate to tell Ambro that it was Bal who saved him and desperate to become human.
• He had no choice but to seek the sea witch as Nimona carefully and quietly follows him.
• Once he enters it's home, the seawitch didn't show her face but only it's eyes and tentacles.
• Bal asked and begged the witch to become human and so the witch agrees to do so.
• She warns him that if he gains true loves kiss with Ambro, before the morning after a year of being human, he'll have the ability to become human and merman anytime he wants, but if he doesn't he'll die and turns into seafoam.
• She also warns him that every step he takes would feel like he's walking on knives and broken glass.
• The seawitch reminds him that her offer isn't free since he must pay the price and that price would be 2 things he owns: his Arm and his tounge.
• So Bal accepts the offer as he lets the witch cuts his arm off and his tounge with her tentacles.
• After giving his tounge and arm to the seawitch, she immediently gathered everything to make the potion.
• Before handed the bottle to Bal once she's done, she also reminded him that he has to drink it on land before sunrise, and once he drinks it he'll feel the pain as if a swords pierce right through his body.
• Once Bal left the seawitch with the bottle he held onto, Nimona swam towards him begging him not to do this cause she doesn't want to lose him, his kissed her forehead and continues to swam up to the surface.
• Once he reaches the land, while the moon is at it's peak, he instantly drank the potion till it's empty, he groaned as if a knife plunged through him then his body collapsed as everything went to darkness.
• When Bal wakes up, the first thing he saw was Ambro looking at him, asking his name, and if he's alright, but since Bal couldn't speak, he stayed silent.
• Bal is taken in by an enchanted Ambrosius who feels a strange inclination to the mysterious stranger.
• He gets cleaned up and dressed in finery, which is when Nimona sneaks in and chews him out since Queen Valerin is worried and they’re mad that he just left them despite her asking not to leave them too (could be used to set up conflict on a sequel) but they ultimately understand how love can make people do stupid things so she lends her help as long as Bal doesn’t do anything stupid like turn into seafoam.
• In his rooms which Ambro gave Bal to rest in, he was trying to practice walking, it was hard and painful at first due to the seawitch's warning, but he learns to get ignore her and gotten used to walking more.
• Bal haves dinner with Ambs and they get to know each other better. Ambs starts theorizing that Bal might be royal because of his etiquette, wit and hopes so cause he down bad right now.
• The next day, they go on a date in the village, and they accidentally cause a scene where Bal’s feet hurt too much that he collapses and Ambs catches him. But that makes the hood he wears fall down, revealing that the noble was in town with a stranger.
• This makes it to the director, who is a guest who was staying with the insistence of Amb’s parents to help them set him up for a political marriage that would increase their political power while making Ambs happy. But the director just wanted another noble in the palm of her hands.
• For almost a year, the Director starts sabotaging their hangouts and tries to constantly embarrass Bal to the point that he is ‘commoner’, there are rare times that her plan worked but most of them didn't.
• Nimona catches on to her plan and informs Bal, who goes toe to toe with the director in the court.
• Ambs sees Bal in his element, and realizes that it was Bal who saved him from the storm, he wants to marry him whether he’s a noble or a commoner.
• Director realizes that the stranger is more of a threat than she realizes, so she switches tactics and instead of trying to chase him out, resolves to kill him.
• Nim, Bal, and Ambs notice and react differently. Nim tries to find a solution to bring Bal back to the sea where he’s safer. Bal starts second guessing because of one trap where Nimona got hurt in. and Ambrosius realizes that the person he loves is in danger and resolves to confront and stop the director before she kills him.
• Ambs confronts the director and is backed into a corner of either he marries the woman she arranges for him or his lover dies and he agrees to save Bal, and Bal overhears that Ambs agreed to marry another and is heartbroken.
• Looking for Nimona to make sure they go back safely and to turn into seafoam from despair.
• For the afternoon till sunset, he sat on a rock at the shore thinking about his death, and for the first time now as a human, tears from his eyes had shed down through his face from all the pain and suffering he's in, all of those sacrifices for nothing.
• Nimona finds Ballister in tears, learns about what happened, and shows him the dagger that she trades her hair for the seawitch, and tells him that he can return to a merman if he just draws Amb’s blood.
• Bal is conflicted but he doesn’t wanna leave Nimona alone with all the hair they have given up for (cause death is significantly harder to arrange visits for) and hides the dagger under his pillow.
• Ambs bursts in, sees Nimona and Bal, Nimona shifts and hides behind Bal and Ambs is afraid. Now Bal realizes he truly has to pick between the sea and land.
• Bal shields Nimona behind him and approaches Ambs, hugging him sadly before leading him to his bed. He beckons Nimona closer.
• Nimona explains situation, Ambs shares his side, lovers realize they can’t be together and Ambs takes the knife and lightly drags it over his heart, just enough to cause blood to spill on Bal.
• Bal faints from the pain of transforming again then lands on Amb's arms, he carries his body to the sea, where Queen Valerin waits for them after Nimona spilled the beans.
• Bal spent the next few weeks in his room in sadness thinking how he never got to say goodbye to Ambro, that 2 worlds can't be together, and most importantly that he trade his tounge, his arm for nothing, forever will he spent the rest of his 300 years of living in silence, but alteast he'll keep his memories of him.
• Valerin ensuing shovel talk and slight respect for the human who cared enough for her son to agree to a loveless marriage.
• Not only Ambro's parents find out the Director's plan but also that Bal was a merman and it was him that saved Ambro, and gave him their blessings immediently.
• Ambs sets Bal down and kisses him on the lips, magic sparkles, Bal got his voice back and finally can now be human-merman.
• Val is impressed by the power of their love and grants Ambs the power to turn into a merman, his life span would extend into 200 years with Bal and offers them to wed in the oceanic courts.
• They wed, kiss, all the wedding night stuff if you’re into that and officially adopt Nimona.
• Head back to land the next day to a fuming Director, shows off the wedding rings, Queen Val shows up in her ocean queen glory and demands the director’s arrest for threatening her heir.
The redesign of Merman Bal is coming soon along with some art and more. But right now enjoy on this list that me and the amazing @long-distance-muse made together
(This is a mixture of the Hans Christian Anderson, Disney and some little inspiration of @mvjerbs Prince Ballister AU)

School very much be a bitch, I'm agreeing with you there!
Anyway, the 3rd Life dragon riders AU!
I say 3rd Life but it's more like 3rd Life-centric, with Empires season 1 on the side, some very niche helsmit headcanons that could probably get my main blog revealed because of how niche they are, and the smallest amount of canon timeline fuckery :D
I'll focus on 3rd Life for the time being tho
Basically, it all starts with Dogwarts (well, Evo technically but Dogwarts start the main plot). It started with Martyn getting lost at sea after watching his island be destroyed and ending up on the Defenders of the Wing island! Ren quickly follows, as with Skizz. Etho takes longer (by a few months) but they arrive as well. BigB takes the longest to make it, as well as the longest to learn to trust.
The five of them are a close-nit group before long, spending their days adventuring into the woods and sailing around the island. They all came from places where exploration was a must, and it's weird to be contained.
So they leave. They only leave after come newcomers arrive, ones who ride dragons. BigB suddenly isn't alone in being a rider, and Cookie (his speed stinger) makes close friends with the new dragons. Etho wants to learn how to ride a dragon, as with Ren and Skizz. Martyn decides to help the rest of the crew explore the world and try to find the dragon riders from the Edge.
Things don't exactly go to plan, and they get shipwrecked on a (thankfully) friendly island. They decide to make an outpost there, because what else can they do except rebuild the boat?
It's during this stay that Etho and Skizz meet their dragons, a changewing and a triple stryke respectively. Dogwarts doesn't end up leaving, no matter how many times they say they will.
Enter Grian and Scar! Who misread the situation entirely!
You see, Grian, Jimmy, BigB, Martyn, and Pearl are the only survivors of the island of Evo. Grian escaped the Watchers, a group of dragon hunters, by the skin of his teeth. BigB and Pearl took longer, but they got out. Martyn and Jimmy were rushed away before the Watchers attacked. Ever since getting out, Grian has sworn to find his missing friends and protect them.
One day, Grian saw Martyn and BigB from a distance while flying on his sentinel named Watcher. He watched as the two of them attempted to outrun Skizz, who was training Gaze (his triple stryke) to track others. Grian thought that Dogwarts was keeping his friends captive, and didn't think to learn more.
Scar on the other hand, is deserving of Dogwart's wrath. You see, Scar had attempted to gather a bunch of crystals to sell, only to be stopped by Etho and Ren. Those 'crystals' were actually dragon eggs, something Scar didn't know about. Scat got away with one egg, a terrible terror that would soon be named Llama, on his flightmare named Vex.
So basically miscommunication starts a war of sorts. Nobody here has the braincell.
I'll explain more about the Flower Husbands/Hobbits and the Crastle-alinged individuals later, my hands are hurting a bit and the ask box is getting laggy - 🔮🐦(magic bird anon)
(oh and I didn't mention it yet, because it happens later in the plot which I still need to explain, but Ren's dragon is a scuttleclaw named Red Winter, and Martyn's dragon is a slithersong named Listener)
This is so heckin pog! Ok so pretty obssesed with everyone's dragon and also the idea of the Dogwarts gang travelling together is so cool!!!! I love that they're all fighting bc of miscommunication it's so in character!
Was the island of Evo destroyed or is it just left abandoned now that all the survivors have left? 👀👀
Curious abt my dear flowers husbands too 👀

hi there!!! sorry i'm sending this late but if you still wanna do the ahit oc meme, 3, 22, 28, 50 for any of them please!!!
Oh- oh hi! I didn’t expect this- of course I’m willing to answer!! I can’t remember all the ones I listed, but for a few OCs I can think of with answers for the questions I’ll add them!
3. Inspiration
The first OC I can think of for what inspired them is Alexandra. I was sitting in art class in high school and Daddy Discord came on my music playlist, and I thought, "huh, this would actually fit if Snatcher had a daughter. Obviously that couldn’t be canon, but it’s a fun concept." …so I made a daughter for him and Vanessa (well, before the whole incident, of course)! Ironically, she ended up being mroe Vanessa’s daughter than Snatcher’s daughter because of her story (which I’d be more than happy to explain if you want, but to keep things somewhat short I’ll exclude it for now), but oh well :) I was honestly really hesitant about sharing her for a long time, but… I like her, soooo-
Another one I had inspiration for was Nekomaru! I was just listening to the main Metro theme, and it just made me think of an innocent cat who went to the metro to explore.
Molly is a similar reason, except with the Windmill theme…I just wanted a little mouse that lives in the windmill :)
So, really, music in general is an inspiration to me!
22. Occupation
Oh boy, I’ve got quite a few for this one-
Azure is the host of the Annual Bird Movie Award, as well as his own personal game show. He’s a con artist, though, and often scams people with his schemes.
Maru, whom I mentioned before, is an artist! She made her own art shop in the Metro where she sells original paintings, art supplies, and gives art classes! She loves it a lot! Her art even caught the attention of the Empress, who made a business deal with her — the two promote each other’s businesses now. Little does Maru know she’s working with the head of the Nyakuza…
Maosato is a kitty assassin that works for Empress! When there’s someone that crosses her the wrong way but she’s unable to get them herself for any reason, she sends him after them — and of course pays him handsomely…
Lester is my Subcon jester! His job WAS to keep the Queen happy… but when he failed to do that, she had him killed, of course. Now he just hopes to make anyone laugh at all…
Julian was a soldier before he died- a soldier of Dorma (my fanmade world which is basically a sister kingdom to Subcon) who tried to protect the king and queen, but was killed in the process and became Windghost, an ice spirit banished from the main village.
[Edit: Forgot to include Annie! I don’t have a ton about her, but she was a friendly maid who worked in the Manor. She barely managed to survive the initial blizzard caused by Vanessa.]
28. Aesthetic
Oof, this is a toughie…I don’t really think of aesthetics too often, and I don’t know how to make moodboards… I know Alex would like warm things… soft, fuzzy blankets; cocoa by the fireplace… Void would definitely like light colors, probably nature-y type things… I might have to come back to this
50. Random facts
Oh boy, gonna list as many as I can think of:
-Vince was part of a pirate crew that got shipwrecked on the coast of Mafia Town. He’s buddies with Mu!
-Stasya has been friends with Hat Kid for years. I originally planned for them to be the same alien species, but I changed my mind and made Stasya’s species a kind of ‘parasitic’ species (in terms of how some birds lay their eggs in other species’ nests) that was left with Hat Kid’s species.
[Edit: Forgot to include Stasya and Hattie became enemies after a dispute over time pieces.]
-Mewsa loved the Prince, but was hated by Vanessa for it. She died of hanahaki and now dwells the forest as a guiding spirit.
-Void is an alternate version of Hat Kid that got lost in a time rift and never found the way out. She accepted her fate and lives in the rifts now.
-Nyagare had her own business, but she lost it when she couldn’t compete with the other businesses in the Metro and went to the Empress as a last resort, but she’s very disloyal.
…and that’s all I can think of right now! Thank you so much for asking!!

Books I finished in April 2022
I accidentally posted this to the wrong tumblr account at the beginning of the month, oops
A field guide to getting lost, Rebecca Solnit, 2005
Alright! Bought this one because the title appealed to me, and is was nice! It’s a collection of essays on the general feeling and idea of getting lost, whether it’s literally or psychically. It’s a neat little book, it explores the authors thoughts around lostness (?). I particularly enjoyed the part about Yves Klein, whose work has always fascinated me. It’s not a book I’ll think about for the rest of my life but it is an enjoyable read and perfect to read to get away for a while.
Orlando, Virginia Woolf, 1928
I’ve been wanting to read Orlando for a while, but every time I went to the bookstore, the copy they had was just a little bit too damaged for me to buy. But they finally put out an other one! Anyways, I’ve been reading a bit of Virginia Woolf lately, and this work is quite different to the other ones I’ve read, namely The Waves and To the Iighthouse. These last two books are written in a steam of consciousness way, To the lighthouse even more so than The Waves, where Woolf wrote down exactly what her characters are thinking, which was hard to get into for me at the start but was a really engaging thing to read once I did get into it. Anyway this one isn’t like that (did I really type all of this for that conclusion?). Orlando is written like a biography, although it is very much fiction. It follows the life of the eponymous character, who lives through something like three hundred years and two sexes. It offers interesting ponderings on love, gender, poetry, I found all of it just very engaging, magical in a way even though it sort of aims for realism. It’s pretty weird and still hits that Woolf nice of poetic flowing writing. Her biographer self also inserts their own observations and thoughts into the narrative, which is a fun touch (can’t believe I’m writing a Woolf review and saying ‘fun touch’). Read it! It’s a good book! Also pretty immersive I found.
Twelfth Night, Shakespeare, 1601-1602
I seem to read one work of Elizabethan theatre per month at the moment. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to get to this one for a while. I think the first interaction I had with it was by way of that one picture of Anne Hathaway playing Viola, you know the one. Well, Twelfth Night is a Shakespeare comedy. It deals with twins who got separated in a shipwreck and who both believe the other is dead. There is a love triangle that actually goes in a cycle and is not just two people loving the third one, which is cool. Viola, one of the twins, disguises herself as a man to be admitted to Lord Orsino’s court and stuff happens from there. It’s a really easy play to read, I would probably recommend it to first time Shakespeare readers. It has malignant intrigue, court matters, love (to a degree), twins! Compared with Shakespeare’s other comedies, I feel like this one is less centered on love. Indeed, although the love triangle is at the forefront, it doesn’t feel like this big eulogy of love and is entertaining in many other ways, which I quite enjoyed, it’s a nice change of pace. Probably one of my favourite Shakespeare plays!
We have always lived in the castle, Shirley Jackson, 1962
Alright, I bought this one after being reminded of its existence in an emmie video and BOY WAS IT WORTH IT. It’s the story of two sisters whose family died by arsenic poisoning during a family dinner six years earlier. The sisters are ostracised from the local village, they get bullied by the villagers and live almost fully recluse. Then, change happens. It upsets the sisters’ life balance. I loved this book so much. It is so just everything. I don’t even know how to describe the way it made me feel. It was wonderful. It offers an amazing description of anxiety which resonated so deeply with me. Mary Katherine, one of the sisters, has these rituals and beliefs in everyday things or things she created which can maybe seem uncanny but is something I got close to doing myself when dealing with my own fear and yeah. It’s just a special book, I honestly can’t recommend it enough, I just fell fully is love with it.

okay first off, I'm mainly putting my thoughts on live action little mermaid here bc I've seen other people here talking about it + I gotta put my thoughts somewhere lol
My overall thoughts: there were a lot more things I liked about this than issues I had, like I'd argue this is one of the better live action Disney remakes, partly due to how amazing Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, much to everyone's surprise with Melissa lol, both are, partly due to Rob Marshall, like he did Chicago, he did Nine, partly because of Lin Manuel Miranda, partly because of Alan Menken, like there's such a huge amount of talent here. like is it perfect? no, like it still has flaws, but it's pretty decent as far as live action remakes go and there were actually so many things I personally enjoyed about it
So here's the list of things I did and didn't like, starting with the much larger list of things I liked, also spoilers for the movie if you care about that
Slay:
Obviously the biggest slay was Ariel and Ursula. Halle and Melissa killed it, they were the absolute stars of this movie
I like what they did with Eric's character; he's given a lot, and most importantly, we see Ariel seeing more of who he is. We see Ariel overhearing a conversation between Eric and Grimsby that shows her that she and Eric have something major in common, both feeling trapped by their current lives and wanting more, wanting to adventure, to explore the world. We also see Ariel witness Eric risking his life to go back and save the dog. Like bruh, I'm a lesbian and despite that I was like, this man's marriage material. But they don't make Eric perfect either, we see him have a clear struggle between wanting to get to know Ariel more while still longing for this mystery girl that saved his life, feeling things for both of them, unrealized that they're the same person. He also gets a song and this song is great, this is a broadway level song.
I actually like most of the new songs they've added, except for one, but I'll get into that later. But with Ariel, I like that they give her a few more songs in the form of her inwardly singing, like how she does in the stage version of the little mermaid
Speaking of the stage version, like in the stage version and in the original film concept, Ursula is stated to be Triton's sister in this, which adds such a layer of who they are to each other and why they're enemies, and I was always upset that they decided to not add it to the final version of the original.
The actress playing Vanessa also ate
Maybe this is my lesbian bias but I really liked the inclusion of the Queen character, I think it was a nice play off King Triton, and her superstitions about the sea and ocean gods added another layer of conflict. Also her outfits were fantastic
I really like that the kingdom we're in seems to be inspired by the Caribbean, it goes well with Sebastian's accent being Jamaican and I guess this was also Disney's way of addressing the whole "there are no black people in Denmark" argument that people were making to which I'm still like bruh it's a magic fantasy movie where mermaids are real, anything can be real and anyone can exist anywhere, but I like what they do with the setting; the Carribbean was colonized by Europeans, so they use this as the reasoning behind why there are so many different ethnicities seen in the film
I also really like that we find out that Eric was actually found as a baby in a shipwreck and adopted by the Queen, idk man I think it's sweet
Another thing that I thought was really sweet, the way Eric figured out Ariel's name and Ariel guiding him to it, with him showing her constellations, one of them being Aries and she points to the Aries constellation he showed her but when he says it, she drags his lips down with her finger and keeps doing it until it sounds like he's saying Ariel and idk man it was just a super sweet moment
Also the two actors have such good chemistry, like they bounce off each other really well, they have such good interactions, I could really buy that these were two young people falling in love (Another reason I like the Queen's inclusion, it shows that he actually has a parent living with him, implying that he's actually close to Ariel's age, hopefully, I mean Eric gives off major teenage boy vibes in this, so lets hope, y'all)
This is maybe a hot take but I actually really liked this version of Under The Sea. It was really creative, bright, colorful, it couldn't just do what the animated movie did with having all the fish have tiny saxophones, so it found other creative ways to showcase how beautiful and fun the sea is and idk it did a really good job of doing it in my opinion
This is maybe a cliché at this point with the live action remakes or retellings of fairy tale stories, but like... I do like that they don't get married at the end. idk like, it doesn't read as "modern" to me, it reads as making sense for their characters; both Ariel and Eric are shown to be adventurers, they're both shown wanting to explore and be free, so it makes the most sense that neither of them would want to settle down yet. They want to explore the world together first and I think that's beautiful
I also really like the Hans Christen Anderson quote they showed at the beginning; But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more. Bruh???? hitting us with that angst right outta the gate lol
I also like that the concert with all her sisters was replaced by a seemingly very important meeting that happens like, once a year apparently, it's way more reasonable for king triton to be furious with ariel over that than missing a concert that she apparently never wanted to be part of in the first place
I really liked the voice acting for flounder, and the voice acting for sebastian slowly grew on me
I like the fact that ariel was very suspicious of ursula and even started to swim away during poor unfortunate souls, but ursula makes the valid point of her likely never getting an opportunity to be human or leave the ocean ever again and this is what changes ariel's mind in her desperation to become human
The scene where complete strangers of the kingdom took ariel in and took care of her and made sure she was washed, fed and clothed and like, genuinely seemed to care about her and worried about what kind of trauma she went through, it was just so wholesome
I love that they got around the whole "ariel could just write to eric, she clearly wrote when she signed ursula's contract" thing by instead not having ariel be able to write and also having ariel *do a blood contract* with ursula, what a creatively dark solution to this plot hole
love the sad heartbroken reprise of part of your world after finding out eric's shacking up with vanessa
Not Slay:
how dare they change vanessa's song to just having her hum, that song is not long and the lyrics aren't problematic, so idk what reason they had for cutting it, let her sing her bitchy little song about ruling the ocean like
What a lovely little bride I'll make My dear, I'll look divine Things are working out according to my ultimate design Soon I'll have that little mermaid And the ocean will be mine
that could've been kept in, how dare they just reduce it to humming (however I did like the effect they did with the singing coming from the necklace and then coming from her as she puts on the necklace)
the scuttle song, it was entirely out of place, so different in tone from all the other songs in the movie, it was jarring y'all lol when that song came up I wished I had a fast forward button for the theatre screen. it was painful. it's so clearly to me like, them trying to put in a hamilton esque song in there but like??? no. stop. one of these things is not like the other. one of these things just doesn't belong.
the "ursula saying pathetic out loud in front of ariel" thing doesn't personally bother me, mainly because we've already seen it happen in the stage version and no one complained about that, and that was ursula loudly belting "pathetic". what bothers me is other people complaining about it as this huge thing that ruins the whole song, y'all it's really not that big of a deal lol like ariel does find it suspicious that ursula is being shady and she does try to leave but then ursula makes a good point and she goes back. this is not the big gotcha that some people think it is.
I do like that they made scuttle a gannet bird that can dive underwater, I think that's neat; however, gannets can dive underwater but they can't breathe underwater. They just dive underwater for fish. There's no way ariel would be able to have a full underwater conversation with scuttle. now this is a magical mermaid movie where magic is real so you could say that the bird can breathe underwater, fine, but I think it was really special that ariel had this one friend she could only talk to by going to the surface
javier bardem's acting as triton lol. listen. I'm sure he's a great actor in other things. in this though, his face remained the same for almost all of his scenes, his tone of voice also almost always kept the same tone. he did not bring the energy or emotion to this role that we needed to see.
the amnesia plot was unnecessary lol. it was such a selective amnesia too like, "lol I'll have ariel just forget that she needs to kiss eric" but bro, sebastian and flounder still heard that ariel needs to kiss eric and they still do the exact same shit in order to make kiss the girl happen and ariel still has the same energy with eric and she still has literally all of her other memories, so like, what was the point of this addition? it added nothing to the story lol
but yeah these are my literal only complaints. I didn't really mind the realistic animals, idk man it's a live action movie, sebastian looks like a normal crab, flounder looks like a normal fish??? like it's not that deep lol flounder doesn't look like the "horrific abomination" people have been calling him online like bro he just looks like a normal ass fish, that's what fish look like

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E133 (April 13, 2021)
(Little distracted tonight! Please excuse any and all omissions.)
Tonight’s guests on Good Morning Quebec are Marisha Ray and Travis Willingham!
How are Beau and Fjord feeling about their leadership responsibilities among the Nein? Marisha: “Beau has always admired Fjord and respected his ability to speak like an adult. It does feel like-- are Beau and Fjord the only adults in the room?” Travis points out Caduceus and Caleb’s leadership as well. “In that conversation, at least, just because I want it to be a tiny bit meta, a lot of it’s just mindset. Fjord knows that Beau is a world-breaker, can kick that ass, and the idea that part of the focus would be diverted towards how can we get out here, it was feeling a little bit more like we’re done for rather than we can do this. It was his way of doing the old coach reminder of stop thinking of the ways you’re going to get out of this and start thinking of the ways you’re going to dominate this.” Marisha mentions that Beau and Travis are kind of the two who aren’t saying goodbyes, and yet they’re two of the only ones who just have the Nein. “Even Caleb was allowed to say goodbye to his cat! We don’t even have that. It’s just the Nein. They are the ultimate goodbyes for us, if it comes to that. But hopefully it won’t come to that.” Travis: “There’s a certain drive that comes with not having wrapped it up in a pretty bow.”
On Fjord’s decision to have the Rangers engage: “Yeah, that one stings. I was suffering from the good ol’ regurts almost as soon as it happens. I realized it was just Essek and Fjord, and he was just asking me, and boy there were a lot of horseshit RP things going around my head.” He kept in mind that the captain has to be decisive and focus on his people. “I in no way thought of Dagon at all. Fuck, did I send Dagon to his death? Did that headstrong dude go, nah, I’ll do my own thing and get out of there? I hadn’t really experienced that kind of instant regret in a gameplay situation yet. But in leadership moments, or when you have to make a decision like that, sometimes it’s important to take a fucking minute and think about what you’re doing. Even in D&D. I wish I had taken a moment to say, how far away are they? If you engage them from afar, can you slow them down long enough? Set an ambush if you can, but at least be at max.”
On Beau’s meditation attempt that ended in contact with Lucien: “I think I know exactly what he was trying to do. He was trying to put another fuckin’ eye somewhere on me. I was remembering Keyleth putting her hand in the spinning black orb of death under the Ziggurat and I rolled a natural twenty.” Travis asks if she thinks she and Caleb are “next up in the queue” now that so many of the Tombtakers are dead. “Yeah. I’m gonna get turned.” Travis: “I’ll kill you real good, Beau. I’ll take Caleb first because he made me promise, but I’ll get you good, too.”
On Fjord now having more information about Vandren: “I love it. I feel like such a fuckin’ moron. It never occurred to me for one second that a shipwrecked person that survived would have maybe just wound up on the nearest island. Nope. Didn’t even bother to do the Castaway grid and check the nearest body of land. I’m a fuckin’ terrible D&D player.” Fjord washed up extremely far away from the wreck. “I love that he’s there. I cannot wait to go find him and have a conversation. I just don’t know which will come first: going to Darktow and confronting Sabien or going to see Vanden. But both of those things are on the list, for sure. Just for closure, I mean, damn.” Brian asks if Fjord is okay with Jester having reached out. “Yeah, totally. Fjord is a big dummy in a lot of ways.” He mentions that Fjord has a lot of ideas in his head about what it means to “be a man” that keeps him from asking for help when he needs it. “When Jester did that, it just reaffirmed his feelings for her and how she feels for him. It’ll take those kind of people in his life to help him along to the things that he wants when he’s too stupid or shy to acknowledge it himself.”
How about that alliance with Essek? Marisha: “Here’s the thing. Beau wasn’t like, ooh, allying with Trent, that’s icky because of moral reasons. It’s not that. The more allies, the better in this moment. Teaming up with Magneto kind of situation. But Beau’s whole concern was is this going to distract you from the overall mission. I couldn’t imagine walking alongside someone who had just tortured me in the way that Trent has. We spent so many episodes watching Caleb have these post-traumatic flashes of when he lit his family on fire. Caleb’s a shotgun, he’s such a good damage-dealer, and if he can’t cope with it. That was Beau’s concern.” Travis: “And just to go along with your Magneto reference, Essek is one powerful person. Trent brings the acolytes. But we recognize that if we stop the Tombtakers and Lucien then we probably have to stop Trent and the Vollstruckers. But I wanted to open it to Caleb, because we gotta face that motherfucker at some point.”
Cosplay of the Week: an amazing Yasha! (krisjaded on Instagram, photography by adambenfer on Instagram)
On Beau’s plan to put a possible eavesdropper off their trail at Pumat’s: “I mean, everything is a long shot.” Taliesin suggested the idea. “I said Darktow because I thought, hey, if he tries to follow us to Darktow, he’ll probably get murdered. He’ll never make it back. We have no idea. It could have been completely transparent, or maybe he’ll be stupid enough to actually try it.”
Fan Art of the Week: a lovely Caduceus! (by arcanum.dice on Instagram)
How’s the relationship with Yasha been going? “It’s so new! And fresh and weird, and she’s trying to remember to be like, oh, that’s right! You’re my girlfriend! I owe you some attention, that’s right. It’s nice to have somebody. We were talking about not really having anyone to say goodbye to in this round of goodbyes, Beau is looking to the future and those relationships are keeping her afloat.”
On seeing more of Aeor, looking forward to it? Travis: “I really want them dead first. If collections of explorers and expeditions from the Cerberus Assembly and the Dynasty have turned up stuff they don’t know what to do with yet, what the fuck are a bunch of chuckle-dicks like us going to do with it?” They’re interested in a distant sort of way - there are bigger issues at hand.
Travis mentions that he’s never been quite so emotionally invested in the game before and notes that was at the root of his competitive attitude at the end of the last episode. “The lines were so blurred in that way. It’s just a testament to the never-ending learning process that comes from this game that I underestimated my entire life.”

Disney Debunking 5: Ursula isn't the Villain of The Little Mermaid?
So... I've joked (a LOT) that The Little Mermaid started a new trend at Disney: one in which the true "villain" is trauma from bad parenting. Moana's dad is so overprotective and controlling that it borders on abuse. Maui's parents tried to murder him because his eyes are too close together. Anna and Elsa need years of troll therapy because of King Agnarr. Tiana actually had wonderful parents, but her dad maybe miscommunicated some life lessons before being killed. Fa Zhou goes from being a loving parent to Mulan to getting caught up in patriarchal B.S. King Triton is a raging, controlling racist until he immediately regrets losing his shit at Ariel and doesn't know how he can apologize to her.
But I've read way too many posts and articles actually defending Ursula as a good octo-person.
Tumblr media
Hahaha, no. That witch is evil.
So here's how those Ursula-defenders are wrong.
1.) "Ursula was a feminist fighting the patriarchy of Triton's Atlantica".
A feminist is someone who advocates that women deserve equality with men, at it's basic core. Is Ursula trying to fight to bring equal rights to the mermaids of Atlantica? Fucking no! She wants to turn everyone into emaciated shrimp. She manipulates and hurts people to gain power. She wants power only for HERSELF. Triton isn't oppressing her because she's female. Triton is oppressing her because she's an evil and power-hungry criminal. That isn't her first emaciated shrimp collection. Ursula is a feminist like Cruella is an animal-rights activist. Or like how I'm a disciplined Sims 4 cc creator. 😅
2.) "Ursula is offering Ariel freedom and a choice, unlike her father King Triton."
Lulz, no. Ursula is manipulating an abused teenager into signing a contract that Ursula sets up to fail. Everything Ursula feeds Ariel is a fucking lie, and then she steps in as "Vanessa" to straight up sabotage Ariel. This argument is delusional. You want to tell me next how casinos are designed to give us the freedom to become millionaires? All Ursula's contracts are scams. I don't even understand how anyone can be dense enough to think otherwise...
3.) "Ursula is right about everything she tells Ariel about all men, and Eric even proves it true at first."
Tumblr media
Okay, so... These people clearly didn't watch the movie. Props for even getting Eric's name right by googling it, I guess.
Sure, some men don't care what a woman has to say and only understand "body language". One of them is named Gaston. Li Shang's soldiers also fall into this camp, until they actually spend time around a real woman and realize that they're, y'know, people too. There are sexists out there, for sure.
Eric is not one of them.
I'm forcing myself to not dive too deep into this, since that will be another post. But Eric literally is not romantically interested in Ariel at first. I mean, he was for a second when he thought she was the amazing woman who saved his life. But when losing her voice rules that out, Eric loses all interest in Ariel... Outside of wanting to help out and befriend this shipwrecked stranger.
Eric only starts to have feelings for her after Ariel manages to show her personality without uttering a single word. She shows Eric that she's fun-loving and adventurous when they explore the city together. That's not "at first". You need to also remember that Disney romances are ALWAYS sped up because of the runtime. You have to suspend your disbelief a bit for the fairy tale to work.
Sorry, but it's not okay to assassinate other characters so you can justify one character that you like. That's my main beef with Maleficent: I can only enjoy it in the mindset of "I'm watching Villain propaganda right now." And let's be honest: that actually makes it even better. I love unreliable narrators.
Cruella avoided this by creating new characters to be the antagonists. Sure, Roger is kind of a dick. But... He's always been a bit if a dick. The lawyer thing was weird, but it doesn't destroy his established character. Not sure why Cruella is going to end up kidnapping puppies, but...
Tumblr media
I'm getting off-topic.
My point was: I'm worried about the new Little Mermaid movie. Not the black mermaid thing: there are dark-skinned mermaids in the Animated Series, so those incels are factually wrong. No, I'm worried that Ursula is going to get morally-whitewashed to justify her actions, like they did to Jafar. And Jafar suuuuucccckkkkked. Dude was boring. He was the second biggest crime of that remake.
The first being that Friend Like Me wasn't a 90s Will Smith rap... a la Men In Black and Wild Wild West.
Please just let Ursula be outlandishly evil. That's WHY we love her. Let her be manipulative, power-hungry, and fabulous.
I don't think they're going to.

Are you still working on your Commonwealth study? Do you have any thoughts on Arthur's relationships with his colonies apart from Canzuk + US?
Not properly, unfortunately with exams and then work I haven’t had mental/emotional capacity to do real research (and probably won’t for a while 😔). But I have continued to think about and develop certain relationships, and I think I also have old hcs I’ve never shared, so I’ll put those down!
Born into the Empire
Australia
@oumaheroes has already done such great hcs on him idk what I can add, but basically he was a little bit of a rowdy child, always breaking windows and shattering fancy pots, never able to sit still. I think rainbow once mentioned that Ken (short for Kenneth, my name for Aus) was a lot like England as a child in his curiosity and energy, and I wholeheartedly agree. But I think Arthur’s intensity was more inwardly directed, pushing him to pursue and master new talents and learn whatever he could, while Australia is a little more carefree in his love for the outdoors, exploring, jumping around and off things, little wild animals. Unfortunately for him, he was born in a period of the empire when Arthur was very serious about his kids education, and therefore often praised those who studied hard and learned fast, which really just wasn’t Australia’s cup of tea. Australia took this kinda hard and thought he was the “dumb” one in the family that Arthur was always scolding, but in reality Arthur knew and appreciated that Australias interests lay elsewhere — he was just a frustrated, tired, parent who really wanted to give his kids the best while also holding his empire together, two goals that were never going to fit well in the end and would completely exhaust him.
As Australia’s grown older he’s realized a bit of this (not entirely, though) and also that 1) he really did break a lot expensive things and cause general mayhem 2) scolding us Arthur’s way of showing he cares, if he didn’t he wouldn’t have payed attention to him at all 3) despite being a penal colony, he was still one of Arthur’s more “legitimate” children (being white and a boy) and was therefore still incredibly privileged — never having to question, for example, why it was that Arthur was his dad, if it should be this way, or if he had a seat at the family table at all (more on this later).
New Zealand
Zee, from birth, was a clear favourite. Obedient, calm, quietly intelligent, he would also later develop a blistering sense of humour which combined with his appearance made it overwhelmingly clear who’s child he was. If Ken questioned his place in the family because of his poor academic record and others did because of their appearance/race/other complications, Kaelan never had such problems; his siblings called him the “prince.” Zee, however, also had a charm that, like Matthew, endeared him to his siblings and mostly protected him from jealousy, though he certainly still had issues with being called a try hard, daddy’s boy, bossy, arrogant. Certainly as a child Zee was a little prideful and, under that unperturbed demeanour, willful, but he grew out of it by the 20th century and became one of those most trusted by Arthur, second only to Matthew. He’s also always been inseparable from his brother Australia despite their differences, and today they both have one of the healthiest and most amicable relationships with Arthur of any nation, let alone former colonies (family road trips, every summer).
Bermuda
I absolute fell in love with this girl after reading about here, once, in this fic by @shachaai, and after that my mind just ran away with me. For me, her human name given to her by Arthur just has to be Ariel — for the little mermaid reference, yes, symbolizing her connection to the sea and stunning good looks, but also because:
1. Ariel is a biblical name, meaning lion of God. This makes sense to me, because Bermuda began as a Portuguese trade post, so Arthur definitely consulted our resident bad catholic Port before naming her.
2. Ariel used to be boys name. This also makes sense, because I hc Bermuda was and still is a tomboy. Bitch is fierce, takes no prisoners, and has zero filter. Her letters to Arthur, which all the colonies sent so Arthur could keep an eye on things, were full of shit like “I swear to god if the Spanish don’t get out of my waters I might eat one of them,” and “father, I asked you for destroyers two months ago, and yet you sent them to Hong Kong — could you explain this most unusual occurrence, surely it’s not that you forgot”, and “thank you for the harpoon on my birthday, I caught a small shark a couple days ago and have sent you some of its teeth for your collection.” Arthur tolerates this attitude because he’s weak when it comes to girls; he absolutely spoils his daughters (and flushes like a 16 year old when a woman so much as bats her eyelashes at him). Yes, p*ssywhipped Arthur is a hill I will die on.
3. It also suits her because? Ariel? Shakespeare? The Tempest? Bermuda Triangle? Shipwrecks? Daughter-like figure of powerful and vengeful sorcerer? Yeah. And this girl is a fire spirit — she is so lively, snarky, clever. As she’s grown older she’s mellowed out a little, but still: a no shit taken, no fucks given type of gal.
4. Speaking of growing up, she’s also become quite the beauty. Shacha, if I’m remembering correctly, described her as dark skinned, wavy-haired, and green eyed and that image has been burned onto the back of my eyelids ever since. Those Iberian genetics really be pulling through for her, that’s for sure. Engport love child if I’ve ever seen one. Definitely one of the prettiest in her family.
Singapore
I’ve already mentioned this to needcake, but I’m not too big a fan of canon Singapore, so this is my oc version. Singapore is fascinating to me because it had only a very small local population before it became a colony (The original settlement had actually been destroyed by the Portuguese about two centuries before the British started building a port there.) So nation-tans like Singapore and Bermuda really are Arthur’s children in the most direct sense of the word. And yet, Singapore is mostly ethnically Chinese, with Malays being the second largest group. Growing up Asian in a white, Victorian era family surely cannot have been easy and more than once Singapore probably wondered if there hadn’t been some mistake. To make up for the constant fear that he wasn’t “really” British, Singapore studied ferociously and had a truly terrifying work ethic. I’m not sure if this is common knowledge outside Asian circles, so I’ll mention that this hc comes from the fact Singapore is well known for having truly exceptional students and some of the most prestigious schools. Singaporeans score highly in literally everything and they have an advantage with good English learning environments, a highly desirable trait in Asia, but these results come from brutally long hours — and its really saying something that they’re known for working hard, considering the studying ethic of students in Korea, Japan, and China aint nothing to sneeze at, either. To me this actually fits really well with Singapore’s upbringing in Arthur’s household, because Arthur himself prizes intelligence and hard work above all else, being a workaholic himself.
As for their relationship, it was probably the best when Singapore was young and peaked in the 1930s with the massive naval base the British built at Singapore, at the time the largest dry dock in the world. Singapore was a well-behaved child, not necessarily introverted but not rowdy either, and all the way into his teenage years he truly admired Arthur and was proud to be a part of the British Empire, despite his lingering unease and insecurities. The British defeat in World War II, however, was a massive turning point. He had worked his ass off to be a good son, a good brother, to contribute to the only family and system he had ever known, and he had thought by the 30s he was finally on his way to becoming a fine adult. And suddenly, the British surrender brings his entire world crashing down. He had followed the rules faithfully thinking it was his destiny, but suddenly it was clear that all rules were made up. Of course, his insecurities exploded. If the empire was a ruse, what the hell was he? A part of the illusion? He couldn’t have a truly Asian identity, because many of the old East Asian nations shunned him for his Western upbringing, and he could not entirely understand their values either. So he was a kid who kinda had to figure out late and very very suddenly who the fuck he was and wanted to be.
And, well, he’s done pretty well for himself, hasn’t he. After having a total crisis and questioning everything, I think Singapore slowly started to realize that just because the British Empire as a political entity didn’t last forever, that didn’t mean that his entire childhood and identity weren’t real. The love he gave to his siblings and the love he got back, the hard work he put in, his bond with Arthur and the safe, happy childhood he had — those memories and feelings didnt have to be diminished by what came after. Essentially, he learned the lesson all nations have to learn, which is that one needs to be able to discern between duties as a nation and feelings as a human being, and to some extent keep them separate to protect both.
Whoooooo ok I’ll stop there because this turned into a dissertation, sorry. Let me know if there are any specifics u want me to elaborate on or anything I missed, but I’ll leave this here for today :)

Well, this is the last chapter of the sort of… intro part of this fic. But there is so much more to happen.
im always gonna tag @helleborusangel and then the scattered au was made by @hermitcraftheadcanons
False killed another drowned while Stress continued to fix up their base. A creeper had managed to show up and destroyed a bit of their base, and before they could fix it there was another, and then drowned were coming up from the ocean. While the two of them would have loved to move further away, even head towards spawn, but they had tried that already and it didn’t go well. Stress had gotten killed and was sent back to her spawn in the middle of the coral, leaving False to run back and help her out.
They hadn’t managed to get any beds to set spawn, as right now they weren’t even sure if beds would work since their starting spawns were messed up as well as chat bugging out and regen not working. So, because of all that they were on the island closest to the coral reef and were setting up a base there. With everything going on, they were doing pretty well, having gotten a good starter base set up and were almost at full diamond.
They hadn’t set up a nether portal just yet, prioritizing better armor. Of course, they would head in for the first time with iron armor for scouting so that they wouldn’t lose their hard work to a bad spawn, but if they were going to explore that dimension without regeneration, the more protection they had, the better. The priority after that was getting their way into a fortress and finding supplies for potions. Blaze rods, netherwart and glowstone were going to be a priority, but while it would be nice to have regeneration potions, but the pair had found melon seeds in a shipwreck, so instant health would be a much safer option.
False heard Stress call out to her, and then the fighter killed another drowned before running back into the base, the whole place now patched up and better lit than before. For the most part, it was just the essentials with the only decoration being the style of the build itself, but there was one exception, that being a small tank that held a tropical fish that had been stuck with Stress where she had first spawned.
“Well luv, do you fink we’re prepped enough to head to the nether?” Stress asked, ready to switch her armor up. “I’ve already got a portal set up that we just need to light.”
“Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Plus we might be able to find Wels and Keralis since they seem to both be in the nether.”
“Oh, Keralis is in there too?” Stress asked, taking her comm out to look at the messages.
“Well, he got killed by some piglins and also got Hot Tourist Destinations, but never actually used a portal to get to the nether.”
“Alright, well when we get through, we can look for the two of them.”
.
.
.
Keralis was once again very glad he could make stew out of the new nether fungi. While he had found a few red and brown mushrooms, he hadn’t found many and fighting hoglins in a mishmash of armor wasn’t the most appearing idea right now. There was the slight problem of it not being mushroom stew and instead some suspicious stew, and he was getting various effects from it, but some food was better than nothing at all.
The builder was glad he had at the very least spawned in the warped forest, so the most he needed to worry about were endermen and any stray piglins that wandered into the forest from the nearby wastes. And even then he had gold armor so they wouldn’t really bother him unless they saw him opening his own chests which he didn’t think was fair.
Using some bone meal he had obtained from a soul sand valley, Keralis worked on getting another crimson fungus for some more stew. Warped fungi was easy enough to get, seeing as how he was in a warped forest, but crimson was much harder. But hopefully he wouldn’t need to do that much longer.
With his supplies from the forest and nearby basalt delta, Keralis had gotten plenty of gold to trade with piglins. The mobs gave him supplies in return, and they had almost given him enough obsidian for a portal into the overworld. Where he would end up when he got to the other side, Keralis had no clue, but either way it would be better than the nether.
He sighed when the bone meal ran out and there were still no crimson fungi. If he wanted to eat later that… day? Night? Just… later on in general, he would need to either head to the crimson forest, or get more bone meal. And right now, the soul sand valley was closer.
Keralis got geared up and then started the trek to the other biome. He already had a safe path there, so he took his time to walk and not tire himself out and need food he didn’t currently have on hand. That said, he was keeping his eyes out for any trouble on the path as well as looking for any piglin he could barter with. He mistook a ziglin here or there for their unzombified counterparts, but unluckily there didn’t seem to be any normal piglin in sight.
But while his luck for piglin seemed to be low, his luck in general was not, because he was able to spot a portal on a hill in the wastes. And it wasn’t a ruined portal. Even if it had been, Keralis likely would have gone to it to see if there were any supplies he could use. But instead, this was just a lone, lit, hermit made portal.
Keralis booked it to the portal, nearly falling into a gap in the netherrack that led straight down to lava. But he was fine and no mobs were around to attack him. So he stepped into the portal and let the magic whisk him away, coming out on the other side a few moments later.
He was glad to see stone brick on the other side of the portal, something that didn’t really appear in the nether. A set of stairs was nearby and Keralis walked up them, finding a nice looking starter base sans beds, but with a small aquarium with a single fish. He moved over to a window and looked out to see the sun rising and no monsters around. He could also see the ocean and a coral reef under the water. After days in the nether, it was an amazing sight, and Keralis just sat there to take it all in. And also hopefully meet whoever built this place when they returned.
.
.
.
Scar had majorly screwed up and found himself caught in a death loop of sorts. He had accidently lost his footing while pruning some chorus plants and tumbled into the void. When he respawned, he happened to be looking right at an enderman, who promptly killed him. And then killed him again when he respawned. And then yet again. Eventually he wised up enough to keep his eyes closed tight for the next respawn, and he was left alone, but keeping his eyes closed suddenly seemed like a horrible option.
The end was already quiet enough, and other than the feeling of the endstone under his feet, Scar could have mistaken himself for floating in the void. It had been so quiet before with only the sounds of endermen, but now it was louder. Scar snapped his eyes open to look around for the source of the noise, only to get killed again, but then he was careful the second time, looking for what was making that new noise.
It sounded like whispering, but it definitely wasn’t endermen. It also sounded too close to just be something quiet in the distance like the shulkers at the end city. Feeling a little frustrated, Scar shouted, hoping whatever was making the noise would hear him and answer. “Hello?! Is anyone out there?!”
Scar couldn’t help but let a shiver go down his spine as the whispering stopped. That probably wasn’t the best sign, but at the very least whatever was making that sound could hear him. Though understanding might be a different story. “Hey, if you can, I need some help! I’m kind of stranded out here!”
Scar paused, hoping for an answer. At first none came, but just before he completely lost hope, he heard a familiar voice. “We may provide some help. You have done a number of things that we can repay you for. But that amount is still not much, and when we stop, we will stop unless you can give us more.”
Scar knew the voice of the vex. Technically he and Cub had left that behind in season six, but desperate times did call for desperate measures. The vex didn’t tell him how many times they would help him, so he knew he would need to be careful with using that help. That being said, he knew there was one thing that would definitely help. “Are you able to get me back to the overworld? Preferably somewhere safe?”
There was more whispering as the vex discussed between themselves, but after a few moments, they responded. “Unfortunately, we are unable to do that. A higher power is the reason you are here in the first place. However, there are strings we may pull to give you access to an escape.”
“That’s good enough for me.” Scar replied. While it wasn’t an immediate exit, having one on the way was still a good thing to have. “Um, well, do you know who the closest hermit to me is? Other than TFC that is, since I know he’s in the end with me.”
Scar was pretty sure that would be a good question. The closest player would likely be whoever was almost to the end themselves, or maybe they were in the stronghold. Once he knew that, he would hopefully have another request that the vex would allow and they could send a message to them for him. But instead, the vex gave him a much more unfavorable answer. “Look up.”
Scar was confused, but then carefully looked up, avoiding the gaze of any endermen. He scanned the horizon for something, anything that might show signs of a hermit, but there was nothing. His next guess was that maybe a hermit had already claimed an elytra and was flying around, so he looked further into what passed as a sky in the end. And then he saw the bright color that was Bdubs.
At first Scar wanted to smile as seeing his friend, but then he realized the man wasn’t wearing any sort of elytra and was falling fast. Without much more thought, Scar backed up and watched Bdubs get closer before he finally ran to the edge of his small island and jumped. Scar yelled Bdubs’ name as he reached for the hermit, the other man not reacting until Scar managed to grab his arm. Bdubs’ eyes shot open and he looked around in surprise before his eyes finally rested on Scar. “Scar! How did you get down here?”
“You were falling past the island I’ve been stuck on. Look!” And Scar pointed to the island which was rapidly disappearing above them.
“I thought I was just ages into the void. I lost my comm forever ago so I had no clue how far down I was. No wonder I haven’t died.”
“Yeah, well sorry that I can’t really get us out of this. But maybe you can shift yourself a bit to the side so maybe I can catch you when you respawn again.”
Bdubs chuckled, glad for some sort of hope. “Yeah. See you in a couple days.”
The two held onto each other as they continued to fall, but Bdubs watched in horror as Scar was the only one of them to take damage from the void. A few moments later, he disappeared into smoke which Bdubs tried to grab on to in vain, but a moment later, it was all gone, and he was back to falling alone.

TFC hid behind an obsidian pillar to catch his breath as the purple magic of the dragon’s breath was blocked by it. He was running low on health again, so he needed to be careful about getting near the dragon so she could fling him up at the right time. Without blocks, bows and arrows, ladders, or anything really, TFC just had to hope that he could reach the crystals and punch them just before dying. He had already managed to take out two, but there were still plenty to go, especially the caged ones.
There was a roar and TFC cursed as the dragon phased through the pillar and he found himself falling a moment later. He wasn’t close enough to any of the pillars with crystals to try and take them out. That was, unless he somehow managed to catch himself on the iron bars around the nearest crystal and not kill himself. But that was unlikely. He was already old and prosthetics weren’t the best for stuff like this.
So, it ended up that TFC found himself hitting the ground and respawning on the obsidian platform again. He slowly got himself to sit on the platform without managing to throw his back out and used it as some time to rest. He knew the dragon would probably find her way over to him eventually, but right now he was done with fighting.
He pulled out his communicator to check on how everyone else was doing, frowning upon seeing Scar’s many end related deaths. TFC wondered if it would have been better if Scar were the one stuck on the island instead. He could probably deal with the dragon better than him. Probably anyone could. Maybe once upon a time defeating the dragon alone was a feat he could manage, but his old bones weren’t built for that anymore.
He knew it was probably in vain, but TFC tried to send another distress message into the chat. He didn’t really have many other options for what to do, and for all he knew, it could eventually fix itself and everyone would just assume it was still broken if he didn’t check. But, with a sigh, he just got another error message. Maybe another time, that’s all TFC could hope for.

Etho continued to shiver in the covers of the bed he had been put in. When he respawned on top of a mountain, he was surprised to see Grian and the bots up there. Even though there weren’t any trees or animals or life whatsoever other than the other people themselves, they had somehow managed to get a bed and some food. And looking at his communicator, they had managed to somehow all keep from dying from the cold, only having a few instances of falling or even one of starvation.
Etho looked over to Grian, who was currently sitting in the snow and shivering even more than he was. The avian had their wings wrapped around himself and was rubbing his arms to keep warm. Etho had tried more than once to get out of the bed so that Grian could use it, but the bots had both insisted he use it instead.
At first, he had complained, saying he would be fine and he didn’t want Grian to deal with the cold like this. But then he watched as Grian suddenly summoned purple flames in his hands, the fire’s warmth reaching the bed at least a little. The color seemed to reflect in Grian’s eyes perfectly, his irises matching the amethyst color at the moment. At least, that was Etho’s first thought, but then he remembered Ren and Impulse’s eyes being different colors, and suddenly he wasn’t so sure.
“S-So, how did you g-guys get this st-stuff?” Etho chattered out, making the two bots tuck him into the cover more.
“Dad made them.” Jrum answered. “When he respawns, he’s able to use magic to make us stuff like food or this bed.”
Etho nodded, but then looked up again. “Wh-why hasn’t he tried making something to get you guys down?”
The bots didn’t immediately answer, instead looking at each other nervously. “Well, something’s been up with Dad. When we got here his wings got weird looking and then there was that thing.” And Jrum pointed to the small ice and bedrock structure Etho had spawned next to. “And then he started attacking us so we had to push him off the mountain and when he respawned he wanted us to abandon him here and then you showed up!”
“S-so in other w-words, s-something’s wrong w-with him, b-but y-you don’t kn-know what.” And the bots nodded. “W-Well, th-that sums up a l-lot of th-things going on. L-Like e-every time I r-respawn, I sh-show up n-near someone e-else.”
“Really?”
“Or s-something l-like that. I s-started out at s-spawn with Joe a-and Beef.” Etho paused to rub his arms for a bit more warmth. “When I res-spawned, I w-was in a r-ravine with Ren. H-He s-suddenly attacked m-me like your d-dad did so then I w-was in the e-end.”
“Did you find Scar or TFC?” Grum asked, surprised when Etho shook his head.
“Neither. B-Bdubs is s-stuck in the v-void and isn’t d-dying. I d-didn’t see him but I f-found his c-communicator. I d-died before I c-could find out m-more. After that was th-the desert.”
“So Iskall or XB, right? They’ve both died of dehydration so that means they have to be somewhere hot.”
“Y-yeah, probably. But I d-didn’t see anyone. J-just a l-lack of dead b-bushes.” Etho explained. “A-anyway, s-sort of at that point I r-realized I w-was a-appearing n-near other p-people, s-so I made s-something to j-jump off of t-to send me e-elsewhere.”
“Okay, where did you go next?” Jrum asked before getting an idea. “Oh! And are you able to look at coordinates when you show up there, because then you might help people who are safe figure out where those who aren’t are!”
“Y-yeah. I’ve g-got access to those. J-just haven’t taken advantage of th-that too much. I s-spawned with Imp-pulse next a-and used a-all the time I h-had to tr-try and break a block w-with him.”
“Well, he’s still dying a lot, so if you did, it doesn’t look like it helped much.” Jrum said, Grum elbowing him. “Ow! Hey! It’s true, isn’t it?”
“Yes, but you shouldn’t say things like that. Etho is doing the best he can in a situation like this.”
“I-It’s fine. I g-get it. After th-that, I sh-showed up h-here.”
“And you have surprisingly lasted the longest up here based on the death messages.” Grum agreed. “Well, actually, it was longer when you were with Ren, but it’s getting close. You slept for a while when we first got you into the bed.”
Etho nodded. “H-How long h-has i-it been?”
The bots both looked up at the sky to look at the sun before looking back to Etho. “It’s been at least a day. We weren’t really paying attention to when you showed up. Uh… it’s sort of like… the middle of the fifth day we’ve all been stuck in this season.”
Before Etho could respond, there was a chirp and Grian started using fire to warm himself up again. Etho stared at the avian and then Grum and Jrum carefully moved Grian closer to the bed so the warmth of the fire would reach him, but not too much in case they upset Grian. “When we first got you into bed and you fell asleep, Dad got upset and attempted to attack you, so we’ve been trying to keep that from happening again.”
“Th-thanks.”
Since Etho wasn’t stuck in the snow, the cold wasn’t enough to kill him, so the bots did their best to keep him warm and fed. At the same time, they talked things out with Etho about what they could do since Etho could find people and Grian seemed to be able to get them necessary items.
Eventually, night fell and Grian forcefully got closer to curl up with the bots, each of them finding themselves pinned under one of their dad’s wings. They were worried about Etho at first, especially when Grian moved closer to the bed, but the only thing then needed to worry about was Etho’s bones accidently being crushed when Grian plopped himself onto the bed and tried to squeeze all four of them on the mattress made for one person.
Surprisingly, they all managed to get to sleep in that position, but it didn’t help advance the day forward like the first time Grian used the bed. Despite being metal, the combined body heat of Grian and Etho kept all of them warm, as well as from them just being out of the snow. Since the bots technically didn’t need to sleep, they mostly stayed awake to keep an eye on things, though taking it in shifts so they didn’t overdo it. But the night was calm, and it looked like everything was going to be fine.
And then just as the sun was coming up over the horizon, things changed. Grian got up suddenly, winding Etho and causing the bots to fall to the ground. His wings were puffed up in agitation and flames came from his hands, though his hands were over his ears, making it look like his head was on fire.
Jrum was the first to get up and go over to Grian, but the avian’s wings just swiped at the bot and kept them away. Grum tried next but just got the same result, though he was hit away at a different angle, nearly sending him off the edge of the mountain. Etho, despite having nothing except a bit of food, got up from the bed to get close to Grian, managing to dodge his wings.
By the time Etho reached Grian, he had started hyperventilating. The ninja put his hand on Grian’s shoulder and he whipped around, bright amethyst eyes staring unfocused at Etho. “C-can you t-tell m-me what’s up? What’s going on?” Grian didn’t respond verbally, but his eyes flicked over to the pillar next to them on the mountain. “That’s c-causing it? L-Let’s s-see what w-we can do a-about it.”
Etho walked over to the pillar and looked it over before trying to break the ice since he obviously could break bedrock. He was a little weak from the cold, but Etho was sure he could do this. He had done it for Impulse, and that was underwater. The thing was, he couldn’t get far before he found himself face down in the snow, a hand on the back of his head keeping it down so he couldn’t look up. With a bit of struggling, however, Etho was able to twist his head to the side and his good eye looked up at Grian.
With his voice muffled by the current situation, Etho tried to say something to Grian, not sure if he would hear or even respond. “Grian, what are you doing?”
For a moment, Grian didn’t answer, then he cocked his head to the side confused as well as gave a smile. “Oh, do you mean-?” He cut himself off by laughing. “What I'm doing is making sure you keep going. You won’t fix anything like this.” Etho tried to question what Grian meant, but there was suddenly more pressure pushing him down and preventing him from talking. “Go on now. Freeze to death. You’re only really getting that here.”
Etho was vaguely aware of the bots trying to get him to the bed and pull Grian away, but they didn’t seem to be strong enough for that. There was the clank of metal hitting together, then on stone further down. “Welcome to day five. I’ll speed us through so we can get to the good stuff.” And then Etho froze to death.

As the sun was rising, Joe got up with a start. Something didn’t feel right. He jumped out of bed and went looking for Beef, finding him still taking a nap in his own bed. Joe shook the other hermit awake, not wanting to be alone if his new bad feeling was dangerous at all. Beef complained a little at first, but when Joe explained further, he dragged himself out of bed and geared up.
Swords were drawn as they left the building, looking everywhere they could for danger and making sure to watch each other’s backs. Any mobs from the night were dying from the sun aside from some creepers which they took care of with a couple arrows. But other than all that, there was nothing that really stood out.
Giving up, they started back to their beds, taking a different path back, and then suddenly Joe realized what was the problem, and why he felt off the night before. “Beef, I think that’s our problem right there.”
Beef looked over to Joe, then to where Joe was pointing. Right where the main building of spawn was, or at least, where it had been. Standing in its place, towering above the other buildings, was a tower of various blocks like obsidian, bedrock, endstone, blackstone, and more. The pair moved to get a better look at the new building, finding an entrance at its base which was a few blocks above the surrounding terrain, though it had also appeared with a hill.
“Well, I think we should stop working on makin’ more shelter.” Joe spoke up after they had just stared at the tower for a few minutes. “We can make signs to tell people what’s up, but we need to gear up and find X and Grian.”

Don’t Mind Me I’m Just Putting My Clown Makeup Back On.
So just finished watching episode 8. What was it Evan said before the episode, that it was ‘The Night of the Ships.’ Well actually it was more ‘the Night of the Shipwrecks.’ But more on that in my actual review for the episode which I’ll post later. I want to take time to process the episode and give it a rewatch. Naturally as a Barchie shipper this episode left me feeling alot by the end of it mostly, angry, frustrated and hopeless. But here’s the thing I’ve seen alot of comments saying that Barchie is dead and I am in two minds on it. Sometimes I think, ok maybe it is, but then a part of me thinks it isn’t. I think a big part of that is because we’ve been baited with Barchie so many times by now. I mean this is the third time we have been told that Barchie is over. So now whenever I see the words Barchie is over its like I am preconditioned to go, but is it though? I mean think about it, we were all told it was over between Barchie after they kissed in 2x09 and it became clear in the following episodes that nothing was going to come of it. Then we got told is over between them again in 4x18 when Betty decided not to take things further after their kiss in 4x17. And now once again it looks like the same thing is happening. But what I don’t want to happen but what I feel like they might do is, well if we’re being real here, Barchie causes alot of buzz in the fandom and gets a lot of chatter on social media whether its because people are excited or mad about it, but every time something happens with Barchie the fandom explodes. What I don’t want to happen is for them to go back to the original couples and then anytime the show producers feel like things are a bit too quiet and they want to generate some buzz just pulling Barchie out of storage to create that drama. As a Barchie fan the merry go round, of no their just friends to actually they do have feelings is exhausting. One thing I am mad about it if this is the end of Barchie like some are saying then RAS and the writers were really terrible to the Barchie shippers, even more so than usual because they have never pushed or promoted Barchie this hard before. Even right after the episode Evan was posting on his Instagram to the Barchie shippers saying that Barchie have a lot of history and not to give up hope. But its getting to the point where I don’t trust the writers and I am sick of being baited only for them to not go all the way through with it.
I know some people are saying that this was closure for Barchie that they explored them they figured out that they don’t work and now they can focus on their friendship. And if that's enough for you then great, but for me I didn’t get any sense of closure. Before season 5 aired I made post explaining why I thought they needed to fully explore Barchie and one of the things I said was that in order from them to bring closure to them they needed to first have them in a full blown relationship. That hasn’t happened. To me I find it really baffling how Betty can decide that her and Archie don’t work when they haven’t tried being in a relationship which is very different from FWB. How is she or we suppose to know that they don’t work as a couple when they have never been a couple and we’ve never seen them as a couple? Though I do agree that they don’t work as FWB but then I knew that wasn’t going to be a long term thing. For me, again if this is really the end then the most unforgivable part was how badly written it was. It just happened far too fast, in fact the sudden change almost gave me whiplash. The last few episodes and even the beginning of this episode we’ve seen Barchie enjoying the time they spend together, also I never really saw any indication from Archie that he was having feelings for Veronica, their relationship was very much coming across as friendly. But then that all suddenly changed in the second half of the episode, suddenly Archie was having feelings for Veronica and after one bad booty call Barchie have decided that they don’t work together. It almost felt like this episode should have been much further down in the season like episode 11 or 12. For me it seems like this reuniting of V*rchie is just happening too quickly. And that’s exactly why I don’t think this is going to be a good thing for V*rchie and that it might not be as it seems.
So I am going to try and inject a little bit of hope for Barchie here. Because like I said a part of me still thinks there’s a possibility Barchie might still happen and its not as clear cut as we think. I mean if we look at the Barchie ‘break up’ in the context of the episode I actually think its pretty obvious what’s going on here. It is heartbreakingly similar to what happened in the pilot. At the beginning of the episode we get that really romantic, sweet scene with Archie in his firefighter gear. I am going to be honest I was expecting a heated maybe playful scene here but it was actually a very cute and soft scene which made me love it even more. Which also made this idea that Barchie is over even harder to wrap my head around because why go through all the trouble of having such a soft romantic scene and then just turn around and go nope their just friends? I mean watching that scene I’m calling BS on the whole friend thing right now because that is not how friends look at each other. But anyway we also not long after get the scene where Betty tells Kevin about her and Archie and I think this really is very telling of where Betty is mentally when she decides to call things off between them. She describes Archie as being the lit window in the dark. But she also says that she doesn’t want to get in too deep with him because she doesn’t want that light to go out. She is very clearly afraid that if they take things further and go for a committed relationship and it goes wrong then she will lose him altogether. This in my opinion makes sense for her character as its very similar to what she did in 4x18 with Jughead, She shuts things down with Archie and goes back to Jughead because she is afraid if she doesn’t she will lose Jughead. With Jughead she is afraid not being with him is what will lead to her losing him and in a way she likely feels she was  right because they’ve not spoken in the seven years since they broke up. With Archie its the same but the opposite if that makes sense. With Archie she is afraid being with him is what will lead to her losing him. She is clearly afraid of her feelings and very afraid of losing someone who she deeply cares about. Again when you think about what she has gone through this makes sense. She lost her dad, she kind of lost Charles, her brother when he went to jail, she feels like she lost Jughead and now her sister is missing and Betty knows that she might lose her too. It makes sense then that Betty would be deathly afraid of doing something that might make her lose Archie too.
Then fast forward a little and she has a nightmare about TBK. I loved that moment when she looked over and saw the light from his window and how that reinforced the idea of him being the light in the dark. For me this reference was really exciting because a while back when 4x18 had just aired I made a post about Barchie and Light and how I felt like Archie saw Betty as his light, so seeing that Betty also felt the same way made me really happy. She calls Archie over and whilst she admits that she had a nightmare she doesn’t open up to him about it or tell him that she was held captive for two weeks and now has PTSD. I think the other thing to remember about this scene is right before this there is a scene where Archie and Jackson are talking about Veronica and Betty and Jackson makes a joke about how he is juggling two women. At this moment Archie looks really guilty and troubled and I think alot of this is to do with the past and how he hurt both Veronica and Betty before because he had feelings for them both, so obviously he’s probably not feeling great at the idea that he might once again be in the same situation and is likely painfully aware that he could end up hurting them again. Then he shows up at Betty’s expecting it to be a booty call. He is expecting it to be fun and well like it was in the beginning of the episode with the fireman scene. But Betty is trying to escape her trauma and although he doesn’t know why he can probably tell that something feels off. The words he uses to Jackson are that it felt different and not great. I think alot of the reason why it felt different and not great was one like I said Betty was struggling and very shaken by the dream so as much as she was trying to escape I don’t think it worked as well as before, casual sex isn’t enough to help her and I think that is suppose to be the take away from that scene. On top of that I do feel like Archie was feeling guilty about his renewed feelings for Veronica and he might have felt like he wasn’t being honest with Betty and like he was hiding something from her. I think the combination of all this leads to a less than satisfying night and I think this only confuses them more because up until now they have been having a great time but suddenly its different and I think that throws them for a bit of a loop.
Then we get to the key party and again I think some things that happen here a really significant for what happens between Barchie later in the evening. Firstly there’s the fact that Veronica pulls Archie’s keys. This has two effects in my opinion. One Betty is very clearly jealous and not happy about this turn of events. The second is I feel like for Archie this might have seemed like a bit of a sign. Kind of like he might think it was fate that Veronica drew his key which when he is confused about how he feels about Veronica might have felt a little like a confirmation for him. Then of course the stand off with Chad happens and Veronica leaves with her husband. But one of the more significant moments is when Betty says that she is still traumatised by the spin the bottle game from the pilot. I think this is important because it shows that she is clearly thinking about that and the pain of Archie choosing Veronica and how she nearly lost Archie, I mean it nearly brought their friendship to an end. So when you look at it from Betty’s point of view she is remembering all those bad memories from the past and she has this fear of losing Archie and the light he brings to her life, and then he tells her he still has feelings for Veronica. In this situation I think that it makes sense for Betty to slam those brakes on. That bubble she was living in with him before has burst and she’s realising that she’s got to face the things that she had been trying to escape from and distract herself from when she was hooking up with Archie. One part I found interesting, but a little confused by, was the line that at their cores they are different people. At first I thought she meant that her and Archie were different from each other but thinking about it and how it came right after she was talking about how they should make sense because they are the all American boy and the Girl next door I actually think she meant they are different from those personas that are sort of forced on to them. The American boy and the Girl next door. At their core they are not those people which is something we have all been saying since the beginning. The other part that I thought was interesting but was again a little unsure of what it meant was when Betty asked they had a free pass to do whatever they wanted so why weren’t they, and Archie replies because we’re right on the edge. Now I could be reaching here but I wonder if what they are saying here is that what they have always wanted was to be together. Maybe Betty is asking why they aren’t taking that step when its what they’ve always wanted. Archie says that they are on the edge. Now being on the edge of something can be a very scary thing. It makes me think of the danger of falling and I think this is what Barchie are afraid of so instead of taking that leap they take a step back from that edge, back to where they feel safe. To be honest the more I think about it the more I think that at the moment that was the right thing to do. Betty is right in that she is facing some dark times and she is clearly struggling with a lot and I don’t think that right now she is ready for a relationship. I think she is right what she needs right now is a friend to help her through it and who she can rely on. Archie has assured her that's what he’ll be and I really hope that the writers deliver on this and show us them really growing as friends and supporting each other. I think the thing I am worried about is that now that V*rchie are back together and that Jughead and Betty are investigating together that they will fall back into those same patterns of it only being them interacting. I am hoping that the writers have learnt from past mistakes and will still show Barchie as friends, I have some hope that they might as we know that they were filming together for episode 10.
Ok so lets say they aren’t really over how could I see Barchie coming back together? Well a few days ago I made a post taking about the FWB to Lovers troupe and how it usually follows a guideline. I think Barchie are still very much following this formula.
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to write it all out again so I just took a snapshot of it but as you can see at the beginning of this episode we were very much still in step 3, they were hooking up and having fun. Then I feel like the writers hit the acceleration a bit too hard and raced through the next three steps that I outlined in red above. I feel like they mostly skipped over step 4 but I guess it could be argued that Betty calling Archie after her nightmare might kind of come under that one. But we did see Betty getting jealous of Veronica and Archie in this episode which is step 5 checked off. Then we got step six where one of them realises they are starting to catch deeper feelings and the arrangement gets called off. I know some might say that neither of them started to get deeper feeling but I would argue that there is some evidence that Betty at least was. She was very giddy and happy talking about her and Archie to Kevin and I think the fact that she brought up not wanting to get in too deep with him indicates that she has had some thoughts about things deepening between them. Also during the ‘break up’ scene she says that getting closer to him has made her realise that she doesn’t want her darkness to overtake him. Again to me this makes me think her feelings for Archie were getting deeper and that made her afraid that she would taint him with her darkness somehow. The thing that is so heart breaking about this is its a direct parallel to how Archie felt in the pilot, like he would never be good enough for her.
So if we are following this formula then what should happen next is they go on with their lives but when they see the other interacting with their other love interests, so when Betty sees Archie with Veronica for example they will continue to feel jealous and it’ll make them look at their feelings again. I did wonder about that line Kevin said to Betty about him telling Fangs to bring someone to the key party, he said that a part of him wanted to know if he would actually go through with it. I wonder if some part of Betty also wonders whether Archie will go through with it with Veronica. I am curious to know what her reaction will be and whether she’ll sort of convince herself that she was right when she sees them together but also feel a bit hurt and jealous or disappointed. I feel like this situation is currently lined up to mirror season 1 perfectly. We know that Betty and Jughead are investigating together next episode and I can’t help but wonder if seeing them interacting will cause some kind of jealously with Archie. I could also see a scenario where Glen comes into town and that causes Archie to feel some kind of way. Again this would be a direct parallel to season 1 where Archie rejected Betty, got with Veronica and then started to realise he had feelings when he saw B*ghead together. One thing that has always been consistent with Archie’s character is he is someone who really struggles to understand his own feelings and what he really wants. I’m sure the V*rchie’s will come after me with pitchforks for saying this but I actually don’t think Archie really does still have feelings for Veronica I think with them both they are feeling alot of nostalgia and that is blurring things for them. I think in the next few episodes they will start to realise this and ultimately they will once again come to an end.
Another way I could see this happening is a similar situation to what happened with Hannah and Caleb from PLL at the end of season 5 where Hannah admits she still loves Caleb, they kiss and then she gets taken by AD and this makes Caleb realise that he still has feelings for her. Now to be clear before anyone starts trying to roast me I am not saying I want Betty to get hurt or captured again. But it is a popular theory that Betty will be taken by TBK again and considering the way the story is going its not an unreasonable theory. With episode 10 being the midseason finale and it being right before a three month hiatus I feel like its got to be a big shocking episode and we know that KJ and Lili were doing a lot of stunt work so it wouldn’t be out there to assume that one of their characters might find themselves in a dangerous situation. I could definitely see a situation where they kiss and then something happens to one of them which just confuses the situation more. The only thing with this is if it does happen and Archie is still with Veronica then they would once again be cheating.
Another scenario I could see it going is similar to OTH’s Leyton. I mean to me there are so many parallels between Barchie and Leyton, I do find myself drawing comparisons between them alot. But it could be a similar situation to when she got shot and they were trapped in the library together. She thought she was going to die so she tells him she loves him and kisses him as a kind of goodbye. Again I could see something like this happening with Barchie where one or the other gets shot or hurt in someway but they are trapped somewhere. Thinking they might die they confess how they really feel thinking it’ll be their last chance to be real about their feelings and they kiss. Obviously I think help will arrive in time and they’ll survive but then they have to deal with what they admitted in that moment.
Ok but if Barchie get together then V*rchie would need to break up so how do I think that could happen? Well like I said above I do think alot of what they are feeling is nostalgia and I think as time goes on they will start to realise that but I also think there might be a clue as to how they might come to an end in the title for episode 11. Now just to be crystal clear I am not sure yet if these titles are confirmed or not. So everything I am about to say relies on those titles being official. The title for episode 11 is Strange Bedfellows. Like alot of the Riverdale titles I think this is a reference to a 1965 film of the same name. In a previous post where I was theorising about the titles, I explained that the plot of the movie was about a couple who got married impulsively within 24 hours of meeting each other and then separate but then seven years later on the eve of their divorce being finalised they rekindle the spark before realising they are too different and decide to go ahead with the divorce. But then the male protagonist finds out his promotion relies on him being married so he tries to woo her back. In that theory post I talked about how I thought it could be where Chad and Veronica’s storyline goes. I predicted that they would separate in episode 8 and then in episode 11 Chad would come back to Riverdale to finalise the divorce. I also theorised that he would be offered a job that he could only have if he was married and so he would try to win her back. What else is interesting is in the film the female protagonist during the seven years apart got with someone else. This guy is described as the one she should have married years ago. They fit, they both have the same views on everything, they rarely fight, they seem like they would be the perfect couple. To me this very much sound like V*rchie. It’s the person she always figured she would end up being with. Also in the film the husband goes to great lengths to prove that he has changed. They also have alot of chemistry with each other and part of the problem is they keep ending up in bed together which only confuses things more. I could see a scenario where Chad comes back to settle the divorce but whilst back he tries to convince Veronica to give them another chance. During his time back he seems to have changed and is making alot of efforts with Veronica which reminds her of how things were between them and confuses her. It could also be that things are a bit rocky between her and Archie especially if I am right about something happening between Barchie is the midseason finale. I think come episode end V*rchie will realise that whilst they will always care about each other that they are better as friends. In regards to Chad I could see it going one of two ways either the show does a redemption arc for him and he and Veronica get back together. Or Veronica finds out about how he only gets a promotion if he is still married and realises he’s only done all of this so he could get the job he wanted and so she goes through with the divorce and ends the episode single. Personally I would prefer the second one as I feel like too many of Veronica’s storylines revolve around men. I just want her to be single and a badass for a little while and have a storyline that is all about her.
SO to summarise I think episode 9 will be V*rchie and B*ghead interacting but we will see little signs that despite saying they want to just be friends Barchie are shown to have some jealous feelings to the other. I also think V*rchie will feel like something doesn’t feel quite the same even though they are back together. This will continue over into episode ten until Barchie finds themselves in a dangerous situation which leads to a confession that they have feelings for each other and a kiss. Episode 11 things are strained between V*rchie because they are confused about firstly how they feel about each other but also because Archie is confused about what happened between him and Betty in episode 10. Then as the cherry on top Chad shows up and seems like a changed person and this makes Veronica confused and causes even more tension between V*rchie. Then after finding out Chad was just using her to get a promotion she calls it off but she also realises that Archie isn’t the one for her either and they call things off as well.
I mean I could be totally wrong about all of this, but this is just where I feel like the story is going. To me the V*rchie reunion just happened too fast for it to be a lasting thing. We have to remember that we aren’t even half way through the season yet so alot can still happen and we all know how quickly the Riverdale writers like to turn the tide. Who knows maybe Barchie really is bones as alot of people like to think but I for one am choosing to have a bit of hope.

Some of us actually like reading adult erotic. Just say you hate it and move on.
Contrary to popular belief, I actually do enjoy Adult Erotica from time to time. The issue that I have with PB's Adult Erotica is because it's always follows the same pattern and framework every. single. time.
1) Make a Love Interest that has above average attractiveness.
2) Put the Love Interest in a Dominating Position/In Charge/ etc.
3) Make a villain to take down in the end.
Still don't believe me? Let's analyze some of PB's Adult Erotica works so far.
Witness: Above average attractive love interest (Cassian Keane); Position of Power (Federal Marshal/Cop/ Protector of MC); Villain to take down (O'Connells)
Queen B: Above average attractive love interest (Professor Kingsley); Position of Power (Professor); Villain to take down (Poppy and X)
Nanny Affair: Above average attractive love interest (Sam Dalton); Position of Power (Boss/Billionaire); Villain to take down (Robin and Sofia)
Wolf Bride: Above average attractive love interest (Bastien); Position of Power (Alpha Werewolf); Villain to take down (Sayre)
Shipwrecked: Above average attractive love interest (Manu); Position of Power (Captain); Villain to take down (Still currently underway)
These books get churned out with the same framework and patterns and it gets tiring and boring. The only reason why they're getting away with it is because of steps 1 and 2. If you create a love interest that is above average in attractiveness and manage to put them in a position of power, then you can forget the rest because those two steps are enough to hook people in and grab their money.
Now let's flip it around. What if the love interest was just a regular, average person and didn't have a position of power? Would it still have the same effect?
No it doesn't. And PB knows it.
As someone who has written smut from time to time, I can understand how challenging it is to make it fresh and different; however, it is possible to write various smut scenes and plots for smut. I know many fanfic authors who specialize in writing smut and every single work they push out is different from the last. They're talented, and it shows in their work.
However, the fact that all these adult erotica books that PB is pushing out follows the same guidelines minus a few changes to settings and characters basically shows laziness. Because that's what it is. Lazy.
I am going strictly by what has been released. I’m reserving my thoughts on Surrender because the book has not been released yet, so it may diverge from PB’s previous pattern, and I hope it does. There’s a lot to explore in the Adult Erotica genre.

Hi!!! ☺️ just curious what your thoughts are on Six of Crows so far? It’s been a few years since I read it, but I really enjoyed it personally. Especially the characters of Kaz and Inej
I am about 1/3 through the second book. I actually had to stop reading because everyone is in mortal danger and my anxiety couldn’t take it. BUT I’ve made it through 4/6 of the series before having to stop and take a break.  Although I did take a break between the Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows duology. I don’t know if I’m ready to go back to reading sff full time, I think I still need the soft assurance of HEA and corsets of historical romance.
Another thing I noticed is that this series does not seem very YA to me. I mean the characters are very young in years, but only Wylan acts at all like a teenager. Everyone else is living their adult lives. In some cases, very adult. I think they might have made a marketing decision to keep it YA, IDK. I’m not really onboard with the way the publishing industry markets things.
I am enjoying it a lot. I don’t know if it’s my favorite book series ever, but I like it. I do love the world building and the characters. The kind of steampunk magic is cool. Also the complexity of the political situation with all the different countries. She’s got a lot of room to keep exploring  the universe. Definitely like the Six of Crows books better than The Grisha Trilogy. Maybe because there’s no Darkling, and the heroes are more mature than Alina and Mal. Also it’s less “magical school.” Oh. Hey, it reminds me of this science fiction book I read many years (decades!) ago called Catspaw, by Joan D Vinge. Kind of a criminal, gifted (alien not magic), hired on by those in high places, but set in the far future. One of my favorite sf books, although it’s been a while since I read it. I wonder if I still have it? Must check my library.
1. Inej is my favorite character. I love her. She’s the best. Literally and in my heart. What a great ex acrobat, ex prostitute, current spider. Praying to saints and dreaming of becoming a pirate who attacks slavers. In love with Kaz, but tells him, “I’ll have all of you or none.” You go girl. Know your worth.
2. Kaz is my second favorite. So damaged. Cruel, which is horrid, but it’s not his only characteristic not even his most important one, just the one that has given him a reputation. If only he weren’t such a little weenie about his feelings for Inej.  Suck it up crime-baby. You love her. You also love Jesper, Nina, and honestly anyone you tuck under your protective wing although you act like nothing ever touches you. THIS is how you do an anti-hero.
3. Jesper is a close third to Kaz. What an idiot, but a charming one. He’s a lot younger than Kaz.. not in years, but in life. I wonder if Kaz has protected him and allowed him to keep on being his idiot self without as many consequences as he might have had. I think it’s possibly I like the show Jesper even better. The actor really sells Jesper’s charm. Well cast. I mean they all are, but him particularly.
4. Nina is a close fourth to Jesper. Actually, they may both be interchangeable. Bold, spicy, brilliant, beautiful, funny, protective. I love the relationship between her and Inej. You don’t get girl friendships all that often in guy gang books, you know?
5. The others are far below these four. Sorry Matthias, you’re a dunderhead. Poor little barbarian. Nina is completely too much for you to handle. This is where the YA starts to annoy me. The waffling with Nina and Matthias. There’s just no need for any of that besides being too young to actually be in a relationship. I just think that with the lives they live, as soldiers who nearly died a half dozen times, them not being in a relationship is just unrealistic. I mean, they’re not in algebra class... they’re risking their lives on a heist after breaking him out of prison after saving each other from a shipwreck. You know? It’s okay. You can bone now.  You could die tomorrow. Kiss her. Stop being a dunderhead. If you did that, she’d stop scaring you.
6. Wylan. cool that he can make things go boom and cool that Jesper can have a love interest, but he’s the most boring. He’s the most YA. Although he just found out his mother is alive and that could make him change for the better. Grow up, really.  I haven’t quite finished, so I’ll get back to you on that.

Y/N swam through the secret door, looking around at all the different shelves filled with scrolls.
She found herself letting her fingers graze through each one. Her eyes darted through the room… She had never seen any of this. The paintings, the ancient-looking and not-so-ancient-looking scrolls, even a couple of objects she didn’t even know existed. She marveled at the way they were organized and froze when one caught her eye.
“The humans and the world around them,” she read the title softly. “Wonder what this one is about.”
Reaching for it, she opened it. There on the parchment the words seemed to come alive. Pictures seemed to dance around her as she read the words on the page.
“Human females cover all of their parts,” she read. “A human female has never shown her skin to a male.” Y/N raised an eyebrow at the scroll before tilting her head. “That’s not what I saw when I was up there.” she tilted her head at the words on the scroll.
When she looked up from the waves, she remembered seeing the human girls showing skin. They used some very small clothing… perhaps the scholar who wrote this scroll had gotten something wrong.
“Maybe I should look at another scroll,” Y/N rolled up the current scroll she was reading and placed it back. She traced her fingers over a couple more of the scrolls, and decided to take a less older-looking one.
In this scroll she tilted her head at the garbage and filth that lay on the beaches. She frowned at the thought. How could they destroy something so beautiful? As she continued to read, she found a description of other humans who cleaned up the beach. Of those who fought for the sea creatures. A smile graced her lips as she envisioned humans fighting to protect the ocean.
She realized, humans were just like mermaids. Not everyone was the same, not everyone was kind. She cheered silently at the thought and hoped that the green-eyed man was a kind human. Moving on to the next part of the scroll, she noticed a difference in the way they dressed. The women seemed to be showing skin and the men had long hair and were bare chested. She even took note of the different colors of the human skin. Some were dark, other lights, and some had flowers on them! As she continued looking over the scroll, she noticed the women covering their legs and tops with decorative things.
Much of what Y/N saw made her smile. The clothing looked similar to what many of the humans she saw would wear. It was colorful and vibrant and they were all happy to be out enjoying life. She read about the music and wished that she could hear what it sounded like.
“Well that sounds more like what I saw up there,” Y/N thought to herself out loud.
A couple hours and several scrolls of human life later, Y/N swam around the palace. She watched as many of the merpeople were decorating the halls. With her birthday coming up in two weeks, the arrangements for the celebration were beginning and while she was excited, she was scared of what her father would do. It wasn’t long until she found her way to the ballroom’s balcony, overlooking the kingdom. She leaned on the banister and sighed, her thoughts on the human who seemed sad. She wanted to head back to him and show herself, maybe make him happy.
“Let it go, Y/N.” Thasman swam up next to her and rolled his eyes.
“Huh?” she came out of her daydream and looked at him.
“Whatever you saw up there, whatever you’re thinking about, just let it go. Your place is here, with our people, not up there in the human world.” Thasman placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and looked into her eyes.
“Thasman…” Y/N sighed, “I can’t stop thinking about him. You know that, I know that.” she gently took his hand off her shoulder and turned to face the ballroom. “If you would have seen him, you would know that I want to help him.”
“Believe me, it is very clear that you want to help him,” Thasman reassured her, “but how exactly would you do that, huh? How would you even show yourself to him? You can’t tell him what you are, he can’t exactly breathe underwater, and what if he decides that you can bring him wealth and fame showing you off to the other humans?” the merman took a deep breath, trying to keep all those awful thoughts at bay, “We can’t afford to lose you. I am not going to lose my friend like that.”
“I know… but,” she took in a deep breath, “I want to at least try. I just want to be his friend… you know what our people can do, Thasman. It’s only because of my father's decree that we don’t do it,” she looked down at her tail. “I have an Idea.”
“You’re not going up there,” Thasman clarified. “No way. No. Whatever you’re thinking, stop. You’ll get us in trouble.”
“If you come with me you can protect me,” she sang as she began to swim away from the palace. “As my personal guard, it is your duty after all.”
Thasman swore in mermish, exasperated by what was most likely about to happen “I hate you, you know? Wait- wait dammit! Don’t swim too fast! If you’re gonna go up there, you stay close so I can keep an eye on you, are we clear?”
“I’ll race you!” she laughed as she moved her way towards an ocean current. “Can’t catch me, Thas!”
At the same time, Y/N laughed as she barrel rolled along the current. She loved that she would try out being on the surface. Looking back she smiled at Thasman.
“Why are you swimming like a sea snail?” she called back to him.
“You take that back! I’m swimming just as fast as you are!” Thasman huffed as he pushed faster.
“Nope, you are swimming like a sea snail,” she giggled and faced her back to the ocean floor swimming backwards, “if you were swimming as fast as me you’d be in front of me.”
“Whatever! What do you even want to do on the surface anyway?!” He protested.
“You’ll see!” she called back as she adjusted her sea skirt. Really it was made of cloth that ended up on the bottom of the ocean floor from shipwrecks.
Eventually, they reached the reef, and Y/N looked around for anything suspicious before swimming towards the shore. Closing her eyes, she carefully made her way up to the water's surface and smiled. There was no one on the beach and it was perfect for exploring. As she reached the sand she used her arms to crawl deeper into the shore. When she was far enough away she could feel her scales dry out. She watched as they shimmered and began to disappear, her fins forming feet and she squealed with delight.
“Thasman, look!” she exclaimed as she wiggled the weird forms at the end of her legs. Thasman wasn’t far behind her, his own fin disappearing and giving way to the strange forms humans have.
“I am looking! We should head back. This is not a good idea, Y/N! Some humans could see us here!” Thasman looked around nervously.
“Oh don’t be a guppy!” she called back as she tried to stand up. Her knees felt weak and she tried to balance on them. “How do humans do this all the time?” she sighed as she grabbed onto a rock to stabilize herself.
“They’re humans. Nothing makes sense when it comes to them. They’re strange and stupid and extremely dangerous all at the same time,” Thasman complained as he too tried to get some balance on his new human form while reaching out to try and help Y/N, “now, what is your plan, huh? Why on Poseidon’s blue ocean would we come up here now?”
She pointed to Dean’s house, “I want to take a closer look at their dwellings.” She placed her hand out to her sides as she moved her new form slowly, “It’s fascinating.”
“It’s stupid,” grumbled Thasman, trying to stay as close to Y/N as possible to try and protect her in case of any danger. Even in the dim moonlight, Y/N could see his face lose color as realisation came over him. “You actually want to go inside, don’t you? You’re completely insane!”
“I just want to understand it. How does it work? How do you get in?” She used her hands to help herself up the stairs. She looked like a toddler crawling up the wooden stairs leading up to the door. Once on the landing, she balanced herself again and placed her hand on the door. “This is strange. What is this?” she let her hands roam across the glass and wood.
However, before she could even try to grasp the door knob, Thasman took hold of her wrist and put her behind him.
“If we are going to go inside this place, you go behind me, is that clear? If something goes wrong here, you go back, ok?” Thasman smiled.
Y/N rolled her eyes annoyed with him, “I can handle myself. But if it makes you happy I will stay behind you.” She sighed.
Thasman examined the strange object that denied them entrance. He then gazed at the round object that poked out of it and touched it hesitantly. He jumped when a cold sensation hit him. Tilting his head he looked back at Y/N and rolled his eyes when she urged him to do something. Thasman took in a deep breath and pushed in the door knob… nothing happened. Thasman tilted his head and placed his palm on the knob, pushing it again. Y/N thought back to when she watched the male human who lived here and smiled.
“You’re doing it wrong,” she sang as she reached past Thasman and wrapped her fingers around the round thing and twisted it. While the strange object made a noise, it would not move. “I guess there is more to it... look,” she pointed to the keyhole. “What is that?”
“I don’t know,” Thasman replied, “not human, remember?”
Y/N rolled her eyes again. “I know that, Thas,” she sighed, “I guess there is nothing else we can do. But, one day I want to go inside and explore… look… you can see inside at all the trinkets. I wonder what they all do.” she pressed her face against the glass and tried to get a good look at everything.
“Yeah, sure, you’ll get a chance to stalk the human later, Y/N, I promise” Thasman jokes. “Seriously, though, if you come here, don’t come alone, ok? You look for me and then we come here. You need to stay safe.”
“I promise,” Y/N dismissed him as she pulled back. “We should get back home before Father begins to send out guards to look for me. If he asks, we went to the caves to look for more seaurchines.” she slowly made her way down the stairs and back to the seashore. As she got deeper into the water, she could feel her legs turning back into her fin. Thasman followed as quickly as he could as they both swam back towards the palace.
Y/N and Thasman made it back in record time. Y/N giggled as she swam down the corridor and towards the east wing of the underwater palace. Thasman followed closely behind her.
"Y/N," he caught up to here, "where are we going?"
"The room of ancient texts," she replied cheerfully.
"Wait? What’s that?" Thasman looked at her.
“Only a secret hidden room I found in the archives,” Y/N smiled as she swam towards the archive.
“Wait, what!?” Thasman caught up to her and swam before her. “A secret archive? How did you find it? I thought only scholars had knowledge of a secret archive?”
"I'm sorry… It sounds like you are saying that I am not capable of being a princess AND a scholar. Did you forget who my tutor is Thasman?" She turned to face him, shutting him down with an angry glare.
“I didn’t mean…” He sighed. “Why do I let you talk me into these things Y/N?” He saw the smirk on her face.
“Come on,” she made her way to the archives and pushed the large intricate coral door. “Liara? Are you here?” Y/N made her way through the aisles of shelves stacked with scrolls.
“What brings you here, my child?” Liara said as she arose from her seat.
“I want to read anything we have about the surface world,” she leaned in and smiled. “I know we have some, father likes to think that they were destroyed but… I may have seen you come out of a secret room? A room filled with scrolls about humans…? ” Y/N shrugged innocently.
“What?! The amount of problems I would have if I even had such a section, or to make things worse, show it to you, would be huge!” The scholar looked to Y/N as if she was crazy.
“Please Liara? I really need to learn more about the world beyond the waves,” she pleaded with her tutor, “You always said an absence of knowledge can lead to ignorance,” she folded her hands and pouted her lips.
“I never thought I would regret saying that to you…” Liara rolled her eyes at the young princess, a tingle of amusement present in her eyes. The scholar seemed to entertain the idea before getting serious “What I’m about to do never happened, do I make myself clear?”
“Thank you!” Y/N breathed as she gave Thasman a satisfied smile, “See, we can learn more and read up on the human world.” She followed Liara to a dark corner of the archives.
“Y/N, we shouldn’t be reading any of this,” he whispered as they followed Liara into a secluded section.
“You have nothing to fear, Thasman,” Liara drawled, “Much of the text does outline the dangers that humans possess. But it also gives us information on their world and how they do things.”
“But Liara,” Thasman interjected, “she doesn’t understand that humans are dangerous, more dangerous than friendly.”
“I am not a jellyfish!” Y/N growled, “I am not naive but I am also not going to be closed minded and filet all humans for the actions of the few!” she glared at Thasman.
“I really don’t believe that your interest for one lonely human is worth risking Liara’s, yours, and my safety. You know the consequences for all this, Y/N/N.” The merman sassed.
“What human?” Liara asked Thasman. “Y/N what is he talking about?” she crossed her arms looking at the two.
“Nothing,” Y/N avoided looking at her tutor and the closest thing she had to a mother.
“When it comes to you, sweetshell, it’s never nothing,” Liara smiled kindly, before looking back at Thasman. “So tell me, what human?”
“Well, he has a dwelling close to the shore and,” Y/N blushed, “he’s handsome, but he looks so sad, Liara. I want to help him and comfort him, be his friend.”
“It’s ludicrous and dangerous, Y/N/N,” Thasman pointed out, again.
“But he isn’t, I can tell. There is a kindness to him,” she looked to Liana, “I want to be able to meet him and know of humans before I mess up anything.”
Liara nodded, seemingly understanding the young princess. “Alright,” she said, “if you really think so, alright then.” The scholar’s answer left Thasman with his jaw hanging open. He really was expecting his guardian to put an end to the Princess’ crazy plan of getting closer to the human, not encouraging it.
Liara led them through another turn, and stopped in front of the painting Y/N had seen before. Thasman and Y/N watched as she pressed her fingers onto the painting and a small click could be heard. A secret door opened up as Thasman’s jaw dropped.
“I— This— How?” Thasman followed the two merwomen inside the secret room.
“I read about some strange time and there were strange customs,” Y/N whispered as she let her fingers graze over a scroll with intricate gold writing.
“Yes, well this one,” — Liara reached for a scroll — “ tells us about their differences,” Liara pointed to the diagrams. “As you can see they have different shapes and sizes as well as different colors on their skin, like us.”
“So they are different, just like the differences of our tail colors?” Y/N said as she tilted her head at the different human depictions.
“Well I think they are more like our top halves than our tails, your highness,” Liara offered her a smile. “See here. You see the bone structure of a human.”
Thasman watched as Y/N poured over the rest of the scroll. She seemed to be studying it intently.  The young warrior found another scroll and looked at it. This one depicted the different tools the humans would use.
“It says they have a small trident that they use as a way to comb their hair?” he raised his eyebrow at the notion. “That doesn’t sound right?”
“And how would you know?” Y/N looked at him.
“It just seems… impractical, is all” The merman shrugged.
“Oh,” she whispered as she looked at the scroll. She noticed the different ways that the humans were positioned. “Liara, what are they talking about in this one? What is d-da-dancing?”
“Humans like to… move their bodies to a certain rhythm. Sometimes alone, sometimes with a partner, sometimes with several… they do it when they’re happy” Liara explained.
“How does it work?” Y/N looked at the pictures and traced her fingers over them.
“I don’t believe that even they understand how it works… think of it like how we move to the music shells, we use our fins to move around one another… well, humans use their legs,” Liara explained.
With Liara there with them, things weren’t so difficult to understand when it came to humans. Eventually, she ushered them out of the room, uncomfortable at the thought of the King discovering what the Princess was doing.
“Y/N?! Has anyone seen the princess?” Nereus’s voice echoed along the corridor.
Y/N grabbed a scroll on the ancient Mermish rituals while Thasman grabbed one on fighting techniques. Liara sighed in relief, thankful that she had closed the door to the archive. When the king entered, she bowed her head.
“Ah,” Nereus smiled when he saw Y/N, “glad to see you are here and nowhere near the surface. And with Thasman! That is excellent.”
“Your Highness” Thasman bowed, “has something happened?”
“On the contrary. I’m making sure that the arrangements are going well. I was planning on giving a visit to the potential competitors… I thought you would be training by now, Thasman”
Y/N looked at Thasman. He never mentioned he was a potential suitor. She felt hurt and angry. How could her best friend keep this from her? Thasman was looking at her father in surprise, and then turned around to look at her, pleading and nervous.
“Let me explain, Y/N-”
The princess glared at him before swimming away angrily. She ignored his calls as she swam off to her favorite hiding spot, one that she had not been at for a long time. She found a cozy spot close to the cave wall. She felt a sadness in her heart. She didn’t want to be queen. And now Thasman was one of the mermen fighting to be her king. How could he not tell her about this? How could he betray her this way?
“Y/N, talk to me please” Thasman’s voice echoed across the cave. He swam slowly, getting closer and closer until he was just beside her.
“Go away,” she whispered. Her tail curled up as she wrapped her arms around it laying her head on top.
She could feel his eyes on her as she turned away from him. She couldn’t face Thasman.
“Please, listen to me. It’s not what you’re thinking. I promise, Y/N, just let me- just listen to me, and if you want me to leave I’ll- wait no screw that I’m not leaving, but you can ignore me all you want. Huh?”
Y/N turned her back to him, “you’re a liar. Let me guess,” she sneered. “All you wanted was to cater to my silliness. You just came to the human dwelling to make fun of me.” she turned and glared at him. “You know I don’t want to be queen. It won’t make me happy, Thasman. I don’t want this life!”
“And it will be even more miserable if you are forced to marry a slippery eel who just happened to win a stupid competition to be King” Thasman snapped. “Y/N I don’t love you that way, but I just thought that you would rather have a friend by your side on your coronation day instead of some merman who is not going to care enough about you or the kingdom…” Thasman placed his hand gently on her face. “Your Highness, think about it. You can’t be Queen without a husband, and let’s face it, I’m most likely the best outcome of an awful situation”
“Thasman,” Y/N shook her head as she moved his hand from her cheek. “I am not going to be at my coronation.”
“But you can’t do that!” He insisted, “The kingdom needs you! You know how everything works– or- or at least most of it. You can’t just turn your back on everything— “
“I DON’T WANT IT!” she screamed. “All my life I was groomed to be queen and all I wanted was to go to the surface and live there. Something is calling me there. Thasman, I don’t want this! And for what it’s worth, I think you would make a great king,” she caressed his cheek. “But not with me by your side.”
Thasman sighed, unsure of how to proceed without making Y/N shut him out. After a moment, he just gave her a resigned look. “I know you don’t want this, Y/N/N, but come on. Your- You-” Thasman ran a hand across his face before pulling Y/N in for a hug. “I’ve met some of the other suitors, and trust me, you won’t exactly be excited to meet most of them.” He ran his fingers through her hair as it flowed with the current. “I know how the kingdom sees you. I know you would rather leave, but if you left, you would be signing this kingdom’s doom. I’m not suited to be a king, but what I can do is be there for my friend.”
“How does the kingdom see me?” Y/N whispered. “Do they think I'm naive? Or incapable of ruling? Because they’re right. I can’t do this Thasman. I don’t belong here.”
“How could you not belong here?” he gave her an incredulous look filled with exasperation, “Y/N, the kingdom may think a lot about their Princess, but they do have faith in you. Look at you! Just the way you think about humans could change some things around here for the greater good!” He gave her a small smile.  “Even though sometimes your ideas do scare me…” He chuckled while holding her face in his hands. “Everyone believes you can do it. And the few who don’t are the ones who want to run this kingdom to the bottom of the Trench.” his eyes gazed into hers before he closed them taking in a deep ocean breath. “I’m not telling you not to be scared, I’m not going to tell you to suck it up. I’m doing what I’m doing because I know you can be an amazing Queen… Because when you get married, you deserve to have a friend up there with you. And not some stranger who saw you as a prize.”
Y/N let out a gasp as she felt his lips on her forehead. She could feel her heat pound in her chest at the gesture. But she wasn’t sure what was going on. She knew she liked the green-eyed human. He haunted her dreams. But now, here was Thasman, trying to protect her, even knowing that she didn’t want this kind of life.
“Thasman…” she whispered gazing into his eyes.
“Let’s go to the palace, your Highness,” he mumbled before pulling away from her. “We don’t need your father worrying about you. And I need to train.”
Y/N watched as he swam away, before following after. Their swim to the palace was filled with silence as he led her to her room.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Y— Princess,” he kissed her cheek before swimming off.
Y/N watched as he disappeared around the corner just as she closed the door to her room. Maybe, she hoped, tomorrow things will not seem so complicated.

My thoughts on The 100 7x05
Tumblr media
Hey, guys,
Sorry for not doing any comments on the last two episodes. I’ve been a little busy and I struggled to connect to the show, so it hindered my enjoyment, but it’s all better now. Liked episode 4 and 5 was even better, jampacked with info and it answered a lot of questions.
Welcome to Bardo
Badass Octavia is da bomb (people don’t say that anymore, right?). When she was captured in episode two, I thought she had lost her fighting spirit, but it’s back, bitches. Well, until she runs into an invisible wall trying to escape. She’s captured and transported to M-cap (whatever that means). Then we get a welcome little flashback to Lincoln but it’s obvious that Bellamy would be the hand reaching out. He’s her rock, like she’s expressed many times.
Unlike John Murphy who is not quite a friend, or family and definitely not a lover. Introducing so many new characters in the final season of a show is never a good idea, because this is the time to wrap up all the stories of the existing ones, but come on, who cannot love Levitt. Even when he first meets Octavia, he doesn’t want to hurt her. Jason, you better not harm one hair on this precious little puppy’s head!
Tumblr media
As he binges The 100 through Octavia’s eyes, he starts rooting for her, and he actually gives a damn, unlike most people on this show. He understands her strengths and weaknesses and he makes her see it too. “You’re a warrior to be sure, but your heart is pure.” Wow, what an honest and beautiful line. (Scroll down for my shipping comments.)
So is O and Hope’s fleeting little reunion. It’s amazing to experience this deep loving side of Octavia after her darkness. She’s truly one of the most diverse and developed characters on the series. Now Hope and her resilience is quickly making it to the top as well.
While Hope is trying to send her back home, we learn that memory loss is due to the time dilation. One quick note on this, it’s not linear, there’s no easy equation to calculate it unless you’re Stephen Hawking or Einstein. I don’t think it’s constant either. 10 years on Skyring = 11 days on Bardo = a few minutes on Sanctum. In the current time, 5 years on Skyring = 1 day on Sanctum = 7 days on Bardo. So, it’s clear that the planets are moving, and other factors are playing into the phenomenon. It’s more important to understand the time relative to each planet.
Levitt was the one who tattooed Hope’s code onto O’s back, also the one who planted the note into Hope’s arm. Indeed the kind of man you want on the inside, he even accepts a blow to the face as thank you.
Sheep-ish?
Thirty minutes on the clock and the trio gets led to a congregation to praise the shepherd. I never thought it was Anders, I do, however think it might be Cadogan. The Bordoan’s built the underground forest because they destroyed their planet. Ugh, what’s new? The shepherd herded his sheep from earth to Bardo via the stone. Cadogan and his second dawn cult?
Back to Clarke. So, after last episode I thought ‘the key to winning the last war’ line was an artifice for luring Clarke to disciples, but now it’s clearly true. They’ve located the key and they will win the last war. Levitt was interested in Clarke surviving the City of Light with the flame in her head, they probably assume she still has it. Cadogan burned Becca alive. Could it be because of the flame? Is this all because of that damn little chip that can’t seem to die?
Tumblr media
Bellamy is not dead, I repeat, Bellamy is not dead! I believe that memory could be staged or implanted for a reason. Also, there’s no body, he jumped through the bridge. In the promo photos, he wears a ring but his actions towards Octavia seem a little cold and generic. On first watch, I thought it was bad acting but if he was programmed to do this, it makes sense.
Note the sequence of events. Octavia returned 7 days ago and was asked to talk her brother down, but we don’t see the actual scene. Instead we’re shown a memory. They could have implanted it to make her vulnerable and perhaps more susceptible to the procedure. I don’t know, but this theory could lead to Robot-sheep!Bellamy on Nakara, where he’ll encounter Clarke and the gang.
I have to be honest, I really don’t like this character arc for Bellamy. It’s unoriginal and a mime of Peeta’s storyline in Mockingjay. Sorry, but so far it feels like the writers were so over the show, they just wanted to get it done. And that attitude really bleeds into one’s creative concepts. I could be completely wrong, in fact, I hope I am.
Echo spins a Finn
Tumblr media
My word, I lost the love of my life once, but I sure didn’t kill anyone. When Echo received that vision of Roan, I was hoping for some progression on her individual arc, they’ve made me care about her, and now we get the opposite. Why? One thing I have to admit, a killer performance from Tasya Teles! No pun intended.
Look, this show hasn’t explored Bellamy and Echo’s relationship enough to make her murder believable. It was the exact same thing with Finn. I wasn’t invested in Finn and Clarke’s connection, so his actions of killing a grounder tribe was more repulsive than understandable. Sure, Echo loves Bellamy and her sole purpose is to save him, but I’ve never truly witnessed their love for each other. They had one or two intimate scenes which cannot compel a deed like this. And in the process, she screwed Hope and Diyoza.
Anyway, I don’t think there’s any coming back from it. She murdered an innocent person in cold blood. That’s sure to open a door to the dark side.  Just look at Octavia after killing Pike and her actions were justified by jus drein jus daun.
Say Sanctum three times slowly and it sounds like… Sanctum
Blind faith
Look, I’m just gonna come out and say this song is getting old. Every episode featuring Sanctum is the exact same thing with different lines. Can we please move on from it, already? Yes, we know the COG want Russel dead, and the adjusters will go to extreme lengths to free Russel and the prisoners are background noise.
I did appreciate Nelson stepping in to try and save the girl, though. Still doesn’t save the fact that it’s repetitive. The Sanctum plotline is really struggling to take shape and I hope it happens soon. Dramatic eyeroll.
Tumblr media
At least in the drought of a desert, you can always count on Murphy. “…I say we live and let die.” Typical cockroach line, right, but it’s ironic when he’s the one to step up, even if it is for Emori. Under the magnifying glass it’s the exact same plot as episode 1 and 3. He hesitates to take action, and eventually becomes the hero.
I mean, he saved that poor kid from being burned alive. Can you imagine sacrificing your own child in such a horrific away? Cults are beyond whacked, and, unfortunately, it’s reality that cult members are so blinded by their faith that they do not see rhyme or reason.
How did Murphy fail that test? I didn’t. When Trey named the four pillars, I thought, isn’t rejoice one of them? Surely, a cockroach would have smelled that trap a mile away.
Indra the great
Tumblr media
Can we just give a massive round of applause to Adina Porter!!! That powerhouse walk vibrates strength and majesty, damn, she should be a false god, I wouldn’t dare threaten her with or without an army.
Three little words was all it took for her to recognize evil. “There’s a spider on your shoulder.” Smooth. Too bad she can’t kill him. Why not, how many of the faithful are left to cause an uproar? Wonkru doesn’t know it’s Sheidheda, they won’t care, the COG will fall in line and the prisoners will be happy as long as they get their compound. Sorry, I don’t get it and I don’t understand why she doesn’t tell anyone.  Someone please explain?
Granted, JR Bourne as Russel is way better, but I still don’t understand his actions. I hope they explore and explain him more, because he still feels flat unless he knows something of this final war. I’m hoping these two storylines align soon since it’s really driving a wedge between me and my love for the show.
Shipwreck
I’ll start with the easy stuff, Murphy, Emori and the perfect dress gets a heart eye emoji from me. They are so damn cute this season, can they please live happily ever after in the palace?
Octabriel vs Levittavia
Now, I enjoy Levitt fangirling over Octavia. I feel like he has a deep sense of her through her memories. If I have to root for an underdeveloped relationship, it will have to be one where the characters share thoughts and experiences even if it is through a sick, sci-fi procedure.
On the other hand, Gabriel and Octavia have immense chemistry, two seconds of them together bends my mouth into an “Aah, cute” pout. This will also add some approval and representation for mixed racial relationships.
I really don’t mind either way as long as they make me care through showing and not telling.
Bellarke
So, if my theory is correct, and Bellamy does end up on Nakara, Bellarke will encounter each other quite soon. Bellamy won’t be himself though, but he might pretend to be Bellamy to win Clarke’s co-operation. Is there hope for Bellarke yet?
Echo is now trotting a dangerous path and Bellamy might be pledged to a cause, so I doubt there will be a happy ending for Becho. Since 7x01 I’ve been thinking that the writers might want to develop something between Clarke and Gaia but if they are separated, is there enough time? Guess we’ll see.
This monster of a review is finally done… If you read through everything, you deserve a gold star! Let me know what you think, till we meet again…

【未定事件簿】 Tears of Themis: A Love Poem to Skadi - Xia Yan Encounters
Tumblr media
Translation Masterlist | Themis Event Masterlist
Encounters: Xia Yan | Zuo Ran | Mo Yi | Lu Jinghe
See under cut!

Mini-Story - A Strange Riddle
Part 1 - Detective Convention
Tumblr media
Dark Night Beach
MC: Xia Yan? Is that you?
Xia Yan: Of course it’s me. Who else would it be?
MC: Why are you standing here – weren’t you going to participate in the detective convention?
Xia Yan: I’m waiting for someone – I agreed with a friend to meet here and go together to the convention venue.
MC: Is that so. Great Detective Xia, can I interview you? You’re about to participate in a detective convention, so how’s your mood? Are you nervous?
Xia Yan: Nervous? Why would I be nervous?
MC: Don’t you have to solve riddles in this detective convention? Plus I heard that, to stimulate the participants’ hype, they’ll also hold a competition. You might encounter super strong opponents.
Xia Yan: You’re trusting me way too little. I’m Xia Yan, after all, your Sherlock. Just wait, I’ll definitely return with the first place.
Part 2 - Strange Riddle
Tumblr media
MC: Xia Yan?! Why are you here? Your convention’s ended?
Xia Yan: Not yet. Right now, it’s the time to look for evidence. I’m currently looking for clues here.
MC: What kind of clues do you need to find? Is there anything I can help with?
Xia Yan: I’m looking for clues related to a “witch”.
MC: A “witch”?
Xia Yan: Mm, the riddle this time has to do with an old woman that calls herself a witch in a certain little village near the Dark Night Beach. She also claims that the shipwreck of the pirate king is buried on this beach, and the task us detectives have is to solve this riddle.
MC: Sounds like the difficulty level isn’t low…
Xia Yan: Yeah… although I already have a bit of the basic idea. I just still need clues and evidence to support it. Give me a little more time.
Part 3 - Exposing the Truth
Tumblr media
Xia Yan: MC, do… do you have time after? Can you help me with something?
MC: What’s the matter? Based on your expression… is it something that has to do with the riddle?
Xia Yan: Mm, I’ve already found the truth of the riddle, but considering the involved old woman’s age… Maybe, with you there, I can appease her mood quicker.
MC: Is it actually this serious?
Xia Yan: Yeah, although this is only my personal consideration… Maybe that old woman will be far stronger than what I thought.
MC: Then let’s hurry out, as early as possible…
Xia Yan: Don’t get anxious yet, relax. With me here, it’ll be fine.
 Part 4 – Happy Ending
Tumblr media
MC: Awesome! We finally solved the puzzle about the “witch” successfully!
Xia Yan: Yeah, it really is great that we could successfully have the old woman untie the knots in her heart.
MC: But I really never would’ve thought that the reason why the old woman calls herself a “witch” is… because she wanted to rely on this kind of “weirdness” to gain attention as she lived on her own. And that “pirate king’s shipwreck” was actually pointing to the similar-shaped massive rock on the beach…
Xia Yan: But based on the attitudes the people of the little village have towards her, she probably won’t have to worry about the same problem again.
MC: Yeah – just now, there were a lot of people inviting the old woman to live permanently at their houses! I hope that her life in the future will be happy.
Xia Yan: Mhmm! It definitely will be!
  Xia Yan Chance Encounters
Message in a Bottle
Dark Night Beach
Tumblr media
MC: Xia Yan Xia Yan, I picked up a bottle with a message in it!
Xia Yan: This bottle looks pretty new… was it just released by someone?
MC: It might be… then let’s throw it back in the sea.
Xia Yan: Speaking of which… do you know what will happen when two people throw a bottle with a message in it?
MC: What?
Xia Yan: A creature that holds onto love lives in the bottle. If you send it back into the embrace of the big sea, then… it will protect you and the one you love, forever and forever, and you will never split apart.
The Sound in the Conch
Dark Night Beach
Tumblr media
MC: Xia Yan, what are you doing with the conch shell?
Xia Yan: Have you heard the legend of the Dark Night Beach?
MC: Legend? What legend?
Xia Yan: The legend of Dark Night Beach is that it’s where the elves and trolls battle. If you stand on the beachside and listen to the sound of the conch… You might be able to hear the sounds of the fighting between the elves and the trolls.
MC: So you’re listening to the sounds of the fighting?
Xia Yan: Of course not. What about the sounds of fighting is worth listening to… I’m looking for another sound – the sound of the fairy’s blessing.
MC: ???
Xia Yan: In the legend, the sound of the fairy’s blessing is hidden among the sounds of the fights, ensuring that all the elves can safely return. If you can distinguish this sound, the fairy will arrive by your side and grant you blessings.
MC: So… you want to find the fairy and get her blessings?
Xia Yan: Yes, but also no.
MC: ???
Xia Yan: I do want to find the fairy, but rather than me, I hope her blessings can be given to someone else. I hope that she can ensure that that person will forever be happy and blessed… and then, to forever, forever stay by my side.
 Awaiting the Snow
Sati Falls
Tumblr media
Xia Yan: MC?! Is that you? What are you doing over here?
MC: Nothing, I’m just casually walking around…
Xia Yan: What’s the matter? Your eyebrows look so tightly furrowed – got some troubles?
MC: It’s not really anything, I’m just wondering when it’ll snow…
Xia Yan: Snow? Why are you paying attention to this?
MC: I heard others say that seeing a snowscape beside a waterfall feels different from other places, so I came here a little expectant… But it seems like there’s nothing that indicates that it’ll snow here…
Xia Yan: Don’t get discouraged. Sometimes, surprises come a bit late. How about this – we pray for it together?
MC: Pray?
Xia Yan: Mm, praying for the winter snow to come fast, and praying that every one of your wishes will become reality.
Tiny Surprise
Sati Falls
Tumblr media
Xia Yan: Want to taste the flavour of the waffle I have here? I just bought it from the nearby sweets shop.
MC: Why did you think of buying this?
Xia Yan: It’s because of this waffle’s taste. It’s said that this flavour is one that only Skadi Island has – you can’t buy it anywhere else, so I wanted to buy it for you to taste.
MC: Thank you, Xia Yan. How about we split it up and eat it then? Good flavours are meant to be shared!
Xia Yan: Then… I’ll help myself!
Coloured Stones
City of Elves
Tumblr media
Xia Yan: MC? What are you doing, crouching on the ground?
MC: I’m looking for coloured stones.
Xia Yan: Coloured stones? What are you looking for these for?
MC: It’s like this – I saw before on the guides that the City of Elves has a lot of coloured stones piled together. If you circle these stones, following the hour hand, you’ll be able to see the little elves on there fixing the houses, and you can see their lives!
Xia Yan: You’re just like when you were little – you still like these fairytales a lot.
MC: Can’t I? Plus, this story itself is very interesting!
Xia Yan: You can, you can, of course you can. Right, I also know a lot of other interesting stories. Do you wanna hear them?
MC: Sure!
Xia Yan: Then let’s walk as we talk.
 Sunset
City of Elves
Tumblr media
MC: The sunset in the City of Elves looks very special… Especially when I think back on this city’s legends that are full of magic. I feel like it’s just like fairyland of my dreams when we were little.
Xia Yan: Do you like this place a lot?
MC: Mhmm!
Xia Yan: Then… should we stay here for an extra two days? Just like when we were little, we can explore everywhere and walk through every corner of this city. There are a lot of beautiful sceneries here, waiting for us to discover them.
 Picnic
Sajya Fjord
Tumblr media
MC: …
Xia Yan: What’s the matter? You look like you’re in low spirits.
MC: Xia Yan… I’m hungry… could we eat lunch first?
Xia Yan: You should’ve said earlier – then let’s look for a place to rest and have a picnic. I’ve prepped a lot of food – they’re all ones you like to eat.
MC: Xia Yan, thank you.
Xia Yan: Don’t be so courteous… I see a spot over there that’s pretty good – let’s head over.
Unexpected Discovery
Sajya Fjord
Tumblr media
MC: (Seems like there’s something under the sand…)
MC: Eh? There’s actually a galvanized iron box!
Xia Yan: What did you find?
MC: Seems like someone buried a box here, and I accidentally dug it out. Look at this, doesn’t it look like the boxes we often buried to make wishes when we were little?
Xia Yan: It does look like those… but this was buried way too shallowly… It was dug up so easily, so the wish that was made definitely won’t come true.
MC: Speaking of which… Xia Yan, did the wish you made back then come true?
Xia Yan: It did. Aren’t you right by my side right now?
Lucky Bracelet
Vikja Capital
Tumblr media
Xia Yan: What did you buy so many shells for?
MC: I want to try making a bracelet. It’s said that the shells sold at Vikja Capital’s marketplaces have all been bathed in the holy light of the elves, and it can bless someone so that everything goes as they desire and they can accomplish whatever they want.
Xia Yan: Do you want to make these because… you’ve encountered some trouble?
MC: I haven’t, I’m just hoping for good omens. Who knows if I’ll encounter something troublesome in the future…
Xia Yan: You don’t have to worry about these. No matter what happens, I’ll always protect you.
 Secret Drawing
Vikja Capital
Tumblr media
MC: We can experience making sand art… Xia Yan, how about we try?
Xia Yan: Alright, I’ll listen to you. Right, what do you want to draw?
MC: I’ll draw stuff like plants and animals… what about you?
Xia Yan: About this… let me keep it a secret for now.
MC: So mysterious? Could it be some shocking masterpiece?
Xia Yan: You’ll know after I finish drawing it – it’ll definitely give you a shock. Look forward to it.
