 HEY! MAKE A GAME!
Here’s my new free 8-fold I was handing out at the SCAD Minicomic Expo! I’ll have more free copies with me at future shows.
I’ve been dabbling in game making lately using open source & free assets so I wanted to collect everything I’ve learned so far in one place. Coding has been really fun as a hobby since it marries skills I already have with an entirely new way of thinking.
This zine was put together with Electric Zine Maker which I highly recommend to everyone.
EDIT: I have been warned that OHRRPGCE is not good for those with photosensitivity, as it contains huge contrast and flashing. Sorry for the oversight, stay safe.
Transcription in read more
P1
Cover with “HEY! MAKE A GAME!” in big text. Ing’s cat Asher turns around and says “hm?” and then follows up at the bottom with “Isn’t that expensive tho?”. The credits at the bottom read “some thots by Ing”.
P2
A drawing of Ing holding up Asher and talking to him. They say “actually, buddy, there’s quite a few OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE game engines that are kinda easy to learn!” Asher replies with “so... free? I like free.”
P3
This page is about TWINE. It’s for PC, Mac, Linux and is written in HTML, CSS and Java. Some notable games made with it include Us Lovely Corpses and Egg Baby. Text games, choose your own adventure, and interactive fiction! IN A WEBPAGE!! Asher looks towards the Twine interface while saying “easy!” At the bottom is a note that reads “let me add that learning HTML/CSS is a really great skill to build especially with the growing return to web 1.0 in the face of horrifying social media practices just saying”
P4
This page is about OHRRPGCE. It’s for PC, Mac, Linux and is written in C. A notable game made with it is Franken by Splendidland. Free RPGMaker but more stripped down-- which is good! Was built for creators with no programming knowledge so a great starting place if you just wanna MAKE something. Has its own asset maker built in so you can make the whole thing in the thing. There is a little pixel sprite of Asher in a wizard outfit at the bottom.
P5
This page is about Ren’py. It’s for PC, Mac, Linux and is written in Python. Some notable games are Doki Doki Literature Club! and Butterfly Soup. Ever wanted to make a visual novel, dating sim, or get freaky w it and program a whole simulator? Here u go. Syntax is like writing a screenplay! Extremely accessible (mostly gets difficult when you add branching paths). At the bottom of the page is Asher in a visual novel layout with a text box below him. He’s wearing a suit and petals are floating around him while he blushes. The text box says “A whole can of tuna? For ME?”
P6
This page is about Godot. It’s for PC, Mac, Linux and is written in C. 2D & 3D game dev for basically everything including consoles. This is for WHOLE ENTIRE game development. Much more advanced than the other programs mentioned in this zine & assets must be made outside the program. At the bottom, Asher is playing minigolf and about to make a putt. A notable game is that my brother is making a golf game with it :)
P7
This page starts with a list of Asset Resources. A tiny Ing head at the top says “I have one doll hair” as they hold a dollar looking sadly. The list is as follows: Blender, 3D modeling. Inkscape, making vector images. Atom, simple coding software (recc’d for Ren’py). Unsplash, free images. Freesound, free audio. thepatternlibrary.com, free repeating patterns. itch.io, lots of free/PWYW asset packs are published here!
The next list is for Paid Software I Like. A little Asher says “Meowby next paycheck...” The list is as follows: Aseprite, for spriting! 1-time payment, powerful but easy to use interface. RPGMaker series, Remember OFF?? Let’s goooo. Sometimes it’s for sale on Steam. Clip Studio, dump Adobe into the sea.
P8
This is the back cover and has the website ingramjinkins.com at the top. Asher has his paws on his face and looks joyous as he thinks about a panicked lizard. He says “Thx ING! Now I can make a game! Maybe one about catching pesky lizards!!” At the bottom there is text that reads “made w/ CLIP STUDIO and alienmelon’s ELECTRIC ZINE MAKER”.

‼️UPDATING THE WELCOME HOME UPDATE LIST AGAIN‼️
Tumblr media
i feel like i cant keep UP just SOOOO MANY PEOPLE ARE FINDINF INFO EXTREMELY FAST so by using my personal update list and the findings of others, here’s the update list, updated for the second time!
🏡BEFORE WE JUMP IN, i’d wish to highlight some weird things i personally experienced throughout the site🏡
more than one have i heard a sound while using my headphones that sounded like faint morse code.
i feel like i’ve heard a static/white noise on the site before
after exploring the “secret” version of the site, i thought i heard a heartbeat
one more thing that’s probably important! the company who made welcome home’s merchandise—Marlo— has a logo that looks like this
Tumblr media
hmmm totally not suspicious using wally’s colors inside of an eye inside of a home silhouette!!
the morse code i am POSITIVE about. enough of that, onto the records and bug videos!
🐛the BUGS🐛
thanks to @underscore-duendie (for searching for hours i salute u solder 🫡) and @angel-lyah ‘s VERY useful masterlist, we now have what seems like a complete collection of all the bugs!! here are all of them, in order (as screenshots tho because tumblr dot com won’t let me post all the urls)
this is @underscore-duendie ‘s post!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🏡audios!🏡
@angel-lyah ‘s list covered this VERY well, even putting all of them together in a message👏👏👏 all of these audios have wally speaking directly to us. not sure if there’s more, but here’s what was found! (this is a screenshot btw i use tumblr on my phone)
Tumblr media
angel also put them all together stacked on top of each other! it creates a whole conversation between us and wally! go check it out!
ALSO ALSO @gandalfsbongwater informed me that if you click on the red button on the phone of the “it’s for you” toy (the merch page) it leads you to wally’s duet audio!
@angel-lyah graciously covered this hidden secret too—the safe!
Tumblr media
I EXPLORED I DISCOVERED ITS REALLY WEIRD AND IT LOOKS LIKE THIS (really bad screenshot edition)
Tumblr media
there’s nothing to click on except the “it’s in here” button. at least, not that i know of. here are the images found on the site! (side note uhh what are those things in the background of the white screen?? like, next to the pictures?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

If you don't trust subliminals, make your own. (how to do that)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's really simple, but I've seen a lot of people who say they wish they could but don't know how so here's everything you need to know.
You don't need a computer for this you can use your phone.
What you need:
An editing software, capcut works great
Voice to text, you can use Google translate, your own voice, or if you're extra: an AI voice replica of your comfort character
A list of affirmations that resonate with you or a list of what you want
Music, ASMR, nature sounds, frequencies. Capcut has free music, you can also screen record any of these off of YouTube. Feel free to create a custom DR ambiance with this.
Formulas
These work best if you mix and match. Do whatever you want there's no rules.
1. I,you,we
Example:
"I can shift.
You can shift.
We can shift."
This basically lets it sink into your subconscious.
2. I feel I love
This tricks your subconscious into believing you have it by telling yourself how much you love having it.
Example: " I love how often I shift"
This is not just limited to "I love" but any feelings you would feel if you had achieved your goal.
3. Why do I
Pretty straight forward, this phrases affirmations are questions.
Example: "why is shifting so easy for me"
4. Adverb
This is something you can add to affirmations to tweak them. Things like "instantly" or "effortlessly " I don't really think it warrants an example.
5. Everyone thinks, everyone says
This basically is affirming that everyone also believes you have your manifestation and you should too.
Example: "Everyone says your skin is flawless"
6. Mantras
Things that rhyme, are fun to say, or get stuck in your head. They work great!
Theres many more but it's just some ideas to get you going.
How to put it together
Write out your list of affirmations
Record text to speech, your voice, or an AI voice saying your affirmations
In whatever you're using to edit extract the audio and layer it with a louder audio of music, asmr, ambiance etc.
Lower the volume of the affirmations
If you feel like it add images you associate with what you're wanting
If you want it on YouTube you can upload it and keep it on private or unlisted
That's literally it.

what is the process of production ? :0 what do you do first, second, last, blabla, that.. I'm curious to know how such an amazing show was made
welllllllllllllll i write it first and then (starting with 1C) look it over with pipe bombs VA faeb to make adjustments. i trust his input a lot especially with scenes with PB
Tumblr media
once thats done i create little storyboards of the script and use that to send to the VAs, i figured that having a visual idea of whats happening will help them act their lines better.
Tumblr media
when the lines are done i get to AUDIO EDIT!! this is my favorite part cause i think its when the episode relaly starts to come to life. i edit the lines and add sfx n' other things in fl studio. this image is all of 1C!
Tumblr media
now i get to set up scenes for those who want one! i like to do the backgrounds before sending over a scene to someone to animate. i give them an animatic of what theyre supposed to animate but theyll always have the chance to do their own thing
Tumblr media
once its all animated the last step is to put it all together in premiere pro. this ones fun too cause i get to adjust colors aaaand add music aaaaand extra sfx aaaaan things and then i UPLOAD THE EPISODE AND ITS ALL DONE DON EDONE
Tumblr media
oh i also make subtitles with aegisub b4 uploading. neat little program thanks for coming to my tend talk

Why didn't you put Lennon Remembers on your book recommendation list?
Because John lied about everything in Lennon Remembers. Never mind how Jann Wenner edited his words too. It's completely unreliable and it should not be used as an introductory text. It has its place in studying John Lennon but it needs to placed in its proper framing and context.
When I was putting together that list I wanted to focus on material that came directly from each Beatle because I want people to know about what each Beatle thinks of his own life story and how he wants to present that life story. That's also why I noted the same thing about Anthology and Hunter Davies' Beatles biography. When it comes to understanding the Beatles the point is to understand how they are presenting the truth about themselves. That is also why I tried to find third party biographies that portrayed each Beatle fairly.
So my goals with the list were to find: 1) An autobiography where the Beatle presents his side of the story 2) A third party biography where the Beatle is examined by a writer who is trying to present said Beatle in a respectful light where the Beatle in question is weighed for his good and bad points. 3) My juxtaposition of these things is intentional. It is valuable to see how the Beatle perceives himself, what he wants the public to know vs what a third party finds interesting and what they think is important.
The problem with John though is that he's lied about everything and none of his personal words can be trusted. John lied in Lennon Remembers, he lied in Skywriting by Mouth, he's just...a liar and he admitted to being a liar. He deliberately distorted his image or allowed others to distort it for profit. (I'm sympathetic to John being taken in by Wenner but I also think it was sour grapes because John didn't want to think about how many bridges he was burning.)
The difference between Lennon Remembers and Many Years From Now, for example, is that Paul is trying to tell the truth about himself and his life story. He may embroider or shift blame in some places but he's fundamentally trying to set the record straight and just tell the public about himself, about what happened. John meanwhile, can't be trusted! All of his works are biased to try and put himself in the best light, he lies to cover up his mistakes, his truest moments are fits of self loathing during deeply buried interviews. The intent makes all the difference! Paul has his blind spots but John spent his entire adult life trying to pretend to be something he wasn't.
John was preparing an autobiography with his audio tapes but he was murdered before he could complete it. If he had gotten an autobiography down that was like Many Years From Now I would happily include it.
The problem IMO is that George and Paul are braver than Ringo and John. George and Paul were willing to make themselves vulnerable to the public by publishing I Me Mine and Many Years From Now. John was unable to check himself so we can't trust what he says without a million footnotes and years of scrutiny. Ringo doesn't want to be scrutinized so he gives us photographs that we can interpret without his input.
But ultimately it comes down to the fact that John can't be trusted whereas George and Paul were willing to actually talk to their fans and they wanted to tell their stories to the best of their abilities.

Whether you approach arts and media as a creator, a fan, a professional, or a hobbyist, you are probably very well aware of the rapid growth of AI in many areas of creative life and the conversation surrounding it. Whether we are talking about fiction or text of any kind, visual arts like painting and drawing, music composition and performance, sound design and audio editing - in all of these fields AI is something we now have to deal with, and there are many unanswered questions. How do we protect our livelihoods and practices as artists? What control can we have over our own work and its incorporation into machine learning tools and datasets? How do we as lovers of art and music determine if what we are reading, watching, or listening to is made by humans? Or how do we denote the particular degree of involvement of humans in a work of art?
It’s a complicated issue because it can be hard to say exactly where to draw the line. For example, well before the current conversation about AI, composers like Brian Eno were incorporating generative and algorithmic elements into their work. Does this mean such work is not “essentially human made”? Does it matter if the non-human components of a piece are created by randomness, or by natural elements gathered in e.g. a field recording, vs. being created by a computer program?
Those kinds of questions are more about the philosophical side of the issue. There are more pressing questions to do with how AI affects our ability to actually survive as artists. And, as the technology grows more powerful and the distinction between AI-generated or AI-enhanced material and human made material or basic documentation of reality itself, what methods do we use to signify that a given piece of media is or is not AI made, and what are the exact qualifications of that? Should the label “AI art” apply to work that is entirely generated by a computer, or should that label also be applied to any art that uses AI tools in any context - e.g. the new tools in Photoshop that make it easier to remove a specific object from an image and fill it in with background. What about the world of video games, where AI has been used for decades for things like pathfinding but is new and controversial when it comes to using it for story/dialog elements or certain visual assets?
We are, I think, still very much in the early days of all this, so it’s hard to come up with firm answers as the field changes so rapidly, but this is an essential conversation to be held now. I’ve been talking to a friend who put together a survey for an organization called Verified Human, who are looking specifically into the issue of how do we determine - going forward - whether a piece of art or media is “essentially human made”, and the question of how that should be communicated.
The idea of this survey is to gather as many points of view as possible for this conversation. I know a lot of the people that follow me here are artists and lovers of art, of all different kinds, and to me it is absolutely essential that creators of all kinds be involved in this conversation from early on. Please take a few minutes and fill out the survey via the link below, and if you are interested in helping out, please spread the word. And if you have any questions or would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me directly. Thank you.

I've rewatch your Narinder animatic "I don't work here" SO. MANY. TIMES. I love it.
Also, what do you use for animating?
shitty screenshot of some art as an offering
Tumblr media
hi!! im so glad you like it!! angry nari is so cute <3
i use a free video editing software called CapCut to put together my animations. it's not actually an animating software; rather, it lets you insert images or videos on a timeline, then move them around and stretch or shorten their length. it's also what i use to edit my let's plays and speedpaints! So, i download the audio from a lyric video, put that in the timeline, line up the lyrics, then make the lyric video invisible and line up all my frames to match the timing that i want. i find this much more intuitive and easy to understand than using actual animation software (of which I have tried many), even though its probably a technically more difficult way to do it.
CapCut is available on Windows and mobile (it puts a watermark at the end of videos made on the mobile app, but you can crop that out on your phone or tablet's photo app). I don't remember if theres a Mac version. as for art, I use Clip Studio Paint, but you could use any art program that lets you export images!
i totally recommend trying to animate yourself!!!!!! it takes a long time but its so much fun and i think capcut makes it really easy

Lupin The Third 56th Anniversary!!! 🎊🎉
I drew the big image of Lupin on the right and the "56" last night, and put together a collage for the background of all of the drawings I've made of Lupin thus far (not counting the animations)!✨️🎨
______
On this day 56 years ago, Lupin III was first published in Weekly Manga Action!
The manga became an instant hit in Japan, and the series is still going on strong even today, having several manga series, comics, anime series, animated & live action movies, and video games!
It was among the first manga and anime series aimed towards adults, it's the first anime to use stereo audio, and series creator Monkey Punch was the ones who helped usher in the use of digital art and digital illustration.
Lupin III even inspired and was responsible for characters like TV reporter April O'Neal from the TMNT TV shows and films, Dr. Eggman & Rouge The Bat from Sonic The Hedgehog, Inspector Gadget which originally started from a Sci-Fi Lupin III spin off show that was planned (Lupin VIII), Persona 5, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Aria the Scarlet Ammo and many more. Lupin III even inspired some of the stuff you see in Indiana Jones and the Tom Cruz Mission Impossible movies, including the iconic vault stunt from his first MI movie.
Lupin III is an iconic series, one that despite starting in the 1960's, manages to always stay relevant and epic, and always comes out on top no matter what time period it is. The main character himself even prides himself on that!
So Happy 56th Anniversary to the franchise!!!✨️💎
Anyways, sorry for rambling on for so long, and thank you very much for taking the time to read this! ^v^
_____________________
Do NOT use, edit or repost this, without my permission!!!
If you want to do either of those things, just ask me for permission to do so beforehand, and I’ll get back to you
Also here is the collage in the background

Peppermint tea
Here is 2300-ish words little thing inspired by the current events. This is all fluff, meant to feel like a warm cup of tea. It's about the reader willing to make Noah feel better about his voice issues. It's not set in the present nor in any specific time.
(***) are omissions.
Not betaed.
I wish Noah a super fast recovery and all the good things in this world <3 The band and everybody else did a great job in Denver and Salt Lake City. They all deserve the best!
🌿
I slowly, quietly climbed inside the tour bus, trying to make as little sound as possible, careful not to hit the walls with the big backpack I was carrying on one of my shoulders. I found Bryan waiting for me sitting at the table in the main lounge, working at his laptop in the 9:30 pm darkness, with a white cup of coffee reflecting the light coming from the street poles outside.
The window he was sitting at was the only one in the whole bus with the curtains open. Hearing that someone was approaching, he lifted his eyes to check who it was. When he noticed it was me, his tired, hard eyes softened. His black circles were evident enough though, impossible to hide in the bright light coming from the screen in front of him, which only accentuated them.
“Hey y/n,” he greeted me with a warm smile. “I’m glad you made it. All good?”
“All good,” I half-whispered.
I walked by his side and looked at the screen. He was editing a video, apparently a pretty complicated one given the look of the project on Premiere. I looked at the still image in the program monitor. It was a clip showing a close up on Noah, beaming at the cheering crowd at the end of one of their songs.
I pursued my lips, shifted my stance. “Is it coming along nicely?” I asked.
Bryan leaned back on his seat and stretched one arm behind his head.
“Yeah…” He rewinded the video, clicked play and we watched together the first 10 seconds of the clip he was working on. “This is for Instagram, it’s gonna be huge, hopefully,” he commented. “I took some sick shots with the drone.”
He navigated through some folders on the hard drive which was lying nearby on the table and opened a video for me, audio off. It was indeed an amazing video, with the flames and all. We watched it in silence, then Bryan took a sip of his coffee.
“Do you want something to drink, or something to eat? Grab whatever you want,” he whispered, putting his laptop in standby and closing its lid.
“No, thanks. I’m fine. I ate something before coming here.”
Bryan nodded and then glanced outside. Matt, Jesse and Jolly were peering inside through the glass. They all waved at me. Bryan gestured to them that he was coming, mouthing a “just a second”.
“I’m going for a drink with them,” he said, rubbing one eye and slowly standing up. I took a step back and made some room for him. “Noah won’t even notice we’re leaving.”
“How is he?” I asked. Bryan was now standing right in front of me. Outside the guys were talking to each other, looking at the street.
Bryan took a deep breath and looked to the side. He shook a half empty bottle of water standing on the table and it took him a couple seconds to answer, lifting his eyes back on me and pulling out a faint smile.
“He’ll probably be very happy to see you,” he said softly. It was not an answer to my question, but I accepted it as such.  “I think he’s back there still working on the audio track for this video,” he added, looking at the closed door leading to the corridor passing through the bunk beds and reaching the studio room at the rear end of the tour bus. He regarded me for a second more. “See you later, y/n. I’ll text you when we come back," he smiled. "I’m so happy you came."
He walked past me, grabbed his jacket and then stepped out of the bus to join the others, closing the door behind his back. It was now just me and Noah in the bus, even if he didn’t know I was there yet. I slid the backpack off my shoulder and placed it in an empty place on the sofa. While stripping off my jacket, my eyes fell on the kitchen counter. There were two boxes of tea, chamomile and peppermint, and a jar of honey with a spoon resting on top of the lid. I sighed at the sight of it and went to examine the teas.
I knew all about those. Noah had told me about all kinds of remedies he had tried, during our last phone call that morning. He’d thought I was on some errands in a mall, but instead I was at the airport, sitting in a café at the departures, ready to leave for my one hour flight to join them for a couple days while they were on tour. I wanted to surprise him and I’d organized everything with Matt as soon as I had known about Noah’s issues and I got the confirmation that I could get four days off from my job. I wanted to offer him my support the best way possible, being physically present.
Matt was very glad I could come.
-
“He’s losing it,” he had told me that morning, in hushed tones, when I called him after hearing from Noah, and I could only trust his account after having spoken with the subject of our conversation himself. “He’s on fucking edge since last night. He couldn’t sleep. He’s not eating,” Matt had continued, adding some concerning details about Noah’s condition. “I’m so glad you can make it. So, so glad about it. He really needs… something… right now. We canceled the show in *** and thank God he now has two days to recover, but he’s so stressed about what if he can’t get better in time. Oh god, he’s impossible to even talk with!” Some frustration was seeping through Matt’s words. “I have my plate full as well! I can’t deal with that and him at the same time!”
Matt had sighed on the phone. He and Noah had always got along very well, but being two strong personalities, sparks would easily fly in moments of tension.
“But…” Matt had figuratively taken a step back. “I’m sorry y/n. I- I don’t mean to sound harsh… You know him, more or less you also know how it is in this kind of situation. He gets so hard on himself and when the problem’s basically just him he’s impossible to reason with- Hold on, he’s coming.”
I’d heard Noah calling Matt. Matt had probably been pacing outside around the tour buses while they were on a brief break at some gas station on their way to ***. Noah had approached him and presumably asked who was on the phone.
“Brenda,” Matt had lied to him. I had no clue who this Brenda was. She could have been his dog sitter for all I knew, or his chiropractor. After a couple seconds of silence I heard Noah’s voice again. He announced that he was going to try to take a nap for a couple hours. Matt had acknowledged that and Noah had left.
“Oh, thank God,” Matt had whispered on the phone once Noah was out of earshot.
“Nice," I smiled. "It seems I’ve managed to convince him to rest. It took me fifteen minutes before calling you. You owe me now, Matt,” I jested.
Matt had let out a sigh of relief. “Take my house, take my cars, take whatever you want y/n. Thank you!”
-
Unfortunately that nap proved to be kind of fruitless for Noah. In the late afternoon he had texted me saying that he had slept very poorly, waking up even more tired than before. They were reaching *** and so was I. He thought I was heading back home after work, but in reality I was in a taxi on the same highway they were traveling on.
I placed the tea box I was rolling around in my hands down on the counter. I was excited to see Noah, I couldn’t wait, but I was also kind of nervous. I was not sure about what his reaction would be when he saw me appear in front of him without notice, especially in these circumstances. He was kind of like a wounded animal right now, on edge, as Matt had said, and for sure not in his best mood. If he was actually working on some music, there was a chance he was a bit more relaxed, but again, I was not sure.
I finger brushed my hair back and pressed the button to open the sliding door to the corridor leading to the bunkbeds and the studio. I instantly noticed that this area of the bus felt a couple degrees cooler.
The A/C was on. Some dim light poured from a wall lamp in the back lounge into the corridor.
I saw Noah’s silhouette in the distance, sitting at the small table at the very end of the bus, giving his back to the room, wearing a pair of headphones. All was silent except from a small tapping sound. He was tapping his fingers on the table, counting beats or keeping some rhythm. I shouldn't have worried about talking in hushed tones with Matt, Noah was not going to hear me unless he turned and saw me or I touched him. He was probably going to get a heart attack if I couldn’t think of some way to not scare him.
I closed the door behind me and then slowly walked by the bunk beds on the soft carpet. Most of the beds had the curtains drawn, even if there was nobody there. I spotted Noah’s bed among the other ten. Apparently he was sleeping above someone else in the only compartment with just two bunk beds instead of the usual three. I recognized his bed because of one of his Tokyo Ghoul shirts lying on the pillow.
I took my last couple steps and stopped at the threshold of the studio room. I could now see Noah better. He was in front of his MacBook, working on a Logic project. He was leaning on the table with both of his arms, with a cup of tea by his left - I had noticed the green tag of the peppermint tea bag hanging from the rim of the cup. He was wearing a hooded hoodie and something that looked like a scarf was hanging from one of his knees, folded in a heap on his lap. He stopped tapping on the table to take a sip of tea, and then resumed his work, now also bobbing his head keeping the tempo.
I leaned on the door frame and took my phone out from my pocket.
“Is that peppermint tea good?”
I texted him.
I heard his phone buzz in his pants a nanosecond after. It took him a good minute to pause his work and flip his phone out. He opened the message and froze, staring at it. I saw him lean back on his seat and slowly pull his headphones down his neck.
Oh. I had to be extremely quiet now.
He sent me a reply.
“I am drinking it right now actually...?”
I had to stifle a small laugh.
“I know :) And you should wear that scarf... It’s not gonna help your throat if you use it to keep your knees warm.”
Noah jolted. He looked to his left, back at his phone, and then finally he turned and looked over his shoulder. He saw me leaning at the door, smiling from ear to ear.
“y/n!” he exclaimed, two huge eyes setting on me. He quickly stood up, dragging the headphones with him, making the scarf fall on the ground and getting his legs tangled in some cables. “Oh shit,” he had to glance down at the cables to quickly disentangle himself as best as he could. “y/n!” he exclaimed again, incredulous. His voice faltered, cracked. “How- Who- I mean, when did you arrive?!”
I was skipping toward him. He stepped around the sofa and we met in the middle of the room in a bone crushing hug.
“Oh my god!” he exclaimed against my shoulder, almost lifting me up in his embrace, squeezing me tightly. “Oh my!” He sounded so happy, almost in tears.
I was in tears. I’d felt my eyes prickle the moment I saw him standing up and coming towards me, the moment I saw his sunken eyes and his tired, lackluster appearance lighten up at my sight.
“Noah!” I sighed by his ear, and I didn’t know what to add right there and then. His hair was tickling the side of my face. He was breathing on my shoulder in big gasps, warming up the skin under my sweater, and his hands were moving around my back, unable to find a place where to rest. He was all around me. The very air I breathed carried his scent.
He gave me a last squeeze and pulled back a little to look at my face, which was probably pretty red and also tears stricken by now. His eyes too were glittering in the dim light as he looked at me, perhaps still a bit incredulous of the fact that I was there.
“...How?” he asked again, still beaming.
“Matt and the others knew. I took a flight this morning and - ” I waved a hand in the air. “Well,  now I’m here!”
Noah stared at me, looking at a loss for words.
“I came for you,” I added, trying to maintain the smile on my lips. “I can't stand knowing that you're not feeling well and not being able to be there with you.”
Noah took a shallow, shaky breath. He opened his mouth, but didn’t say anything. I saw various emotions cross his face in just a couple seconds.
I tiptoed and reached for the side of his neck, since I couldn’t properly cup the side of his face when he was standing at his full height. He took the cue and bent a little to receive my kiss, allowing me to take him to the sectional, having him sit down, climb beside him and dispel all of his worries at least for a while, covering him in kisses and cuddles that melted him down in a matter of minutes.

Hey I love your posts! Do you do your own editing, and if so I'd love to know how!!
Thank you! Yes, I do all of my own editing, recording, and production, start to finish. Aside from most of the audios being from TikTok or simply music that I felt might go with a specific piece. And most of the trippy backgrounds are typically images or effects combined with different visuals from various sources, such as my friend and fellow hypno-artist @lushloops. I can rarely get through making a custom background without finding myself incorporating one of his visuals into it somehow. 🤭
As for what I use, almost everything I do is done with CapCut. I used to use the phone version at first, but ever since they released a PC version, I have never looked back. The features are quite robust for a free video editing software and it has always been very easy to use. It seems to have been designed from the ground-up to work with TikTok as well, so it was just a perfect fit for the content I typically produce. While I am still learning, and my editing is constantly evolving, I do enjoy seeing the progression from my earlier work to today. One of my biggest issues is usually reminding myself that "less is more". Because it is very easy to go overboard with the effects when everything just looks cool, or you are wanting to add something to go with the audio cues or beats in the music. Case in point... I put together this today just for this post, using an older clip I had as an example of taking things a bit too far. 😅
⚡__FX_OVERKILL__⚡
(Fair warning the audio is a bit loud and it doesn't loop as well as I would have liked it to, but I wasn't gonna waste anymore time on that mess hehe.)

wanted to ask, could we get a look in to how you put together your animatics?? I've been toying with the idea of trying to make one of my own, but I've got no idea where to start
oh yeah totally
though to be fair, a HUGE chunk of my time is spent listening to about 20 seconds of a song and imagining how the images move around like a little movie, and I refine a ton of stuff in my head before starting to actually put scenes down on paper. This happens with non-music boarding too, imagining different versions of how the scenes line up with dialogue/music. So step one: put a song on repeat and daydream for at least two hours. But, if you aren’t sure how to do this, I’d suggest looking at animatics, MAP projects, AMVs, animated musicals, fight scenes, etc. what do they do that’s cool? Imitate them.
after that, I have most of the main images with some blank spots im not sure how to fill until I put them down. I make something like this and get the compositions of each main image looking more or less okay in this form. This is also the stage I figure out the in between blank spots. I try not to have weird camera moves or other storyboarding don’ts, but some storyboarding donts are completely valid to break if you know what you want aesthetically. As usual. This one was actually pretty clean, but check out all the framing edits. i always have to make the frame bigger
Tumblr media
If you really don’t know what goes in between things, don’t be afraid to focus on some little details of the scene, pull out and show us the setting, put some flowery symbolism on screen, give us some fun little comedic anime inserts, or do what cowboy standoffs do and build tension. What we used to do was draw paws stepping across the screen or eyes blinking, lol
next comes audio sync! I like to get the timing extant on copies of these rough thumbnails before moving on. It helps my brain work through smaller more animated movements + testing if the things I came up with for the blank spots work. and also just makes it happy. And also, most importantly, it tests if the compositions work. If you can see it, the whole sequence with mom was a blank spot until I sketched it. I usually do this step in roughanimator even if i don’t finish it in roughanimator. Keeps it very rough.
after this is just a lot of polishing and layers! For lots of small animatics, I just use roughanimator and leave it like that. It’s surprisingly good for a very basic program. But, for things that need tweens or lots of camera movement, I use toon boom harmony. It’s more powerful and is actually supposed to be used for animation, which. Yknow. I do. I tried storyboard pro, it wasn’t my favorite.
Here are some, I guess, miscellaneous more technical tips for making your animatics feel nice!
If you’re going for lots of movement, try out timing it so big movements or scene transitions line up with the spikes in the audio WAV. If it doesn’t feel right, move it a few frames BEFORE the spike/audio beat. Your brain usually wants to see something move barely before it hears it - this works for dialogue especially. BUT! Don’t feel like you have to do this for every beat. unless you want to feel like Wes Anderson, which you can do and I will not stop you.
If you’re going for something slower with not that much movement, try motion tweening! or adjusting something very slowly so we don’t linger on one still image for forever.
you don’t need crazy camera angles for everything, but put a few in there for spice. This all depends on your mood you want to cultivate. Slow = flatter, spacious, details; fast = lots of moves, weird angles, perspective; disorienting = slow/jerky weird angles etc etc. the camera has emotions built into it. Because the camera is you! surprise!
watch storyboarding tutorials. lots of people zoom in too much when they draw and I am not excluded. Also, keep in mind the eyesight rule. It’s hard for me to explain concisely but… you as the artist are always leading the viewers eye somewhere, with every shot you make. Don’t make them dizzy by having the center of attention jump around to six different spots for six shots straight - if you find yourself unhappy with a sequence, especially a fast one, see if your line of sight is going all over the place and try moving the subject of a shot or two somewhere else or having them move/gesture towards the new shot’s focal point so the viewers eye moves there naturally. I’m actually not great at doing this when words/lyrics are involved, pmv makers have my respect.
contrast is your friend. If you want to emphasize a big fast move or big bright image, put little slow moves or simple images right before/after it. and vice versa! this counts for camera too!
easy camera shakes are just 3-4 frames of cam down/up/down less/up less, a blank tween or two (easing back into normal), and then a key for your desired normal camera location. Or left/right, whichever.
your brain needs about six frames to fully register an object as being an object. If you want someone to see and really See it, rather than just get a glimpse of it and go "What was that!" It needs more than six frames.
don’t be afraid to experiment!!!!!! And don’t get overwhelmed! Everything I just described I MOSTLY do off instinct, which you’ll get a sense for after you make one. Or like…. Ten. Does it feel good in your heart? Then that’s what’s important. Find an idea you want to make move, figure out your limits (programs, attention span, drawing capability, make sure not to commit to a minute long amv if you dont KNOW you wanna do a minute long amv), and plan around that. When I was A Child, people on youtube were just making like three amvs per second and cringe hadn’t been invented yet so they were all mostly untrained unpolished and so so important and based to me. Stop thinking so hard about it. You gotta get that animatic out there into the world or it’ll start fermenting in your brain and make you sick. So what if it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you imagined it? You’ll have another idea tomorrow. And if it matters that much, you can always do it again. Go make! Good luck!

I'm watching Monk now that it's added to Netflix in my country, and it's ironic how I sometimes find it difficult to focus on the plot when:
On the 4th episode, Monk is trying to hide his OCD and other symptoms as well as possible in order to be accepted to officially help the detectives. The amount of continuity errors in this is insane, tho:
Someone threw a trash on the floor which is seriously bothering Monk. In close-up images the trash is right next to the bin, but in the bigger, different angle the trash is like 1 meter away from the bin. And it keeps jumping between these cameras -> the trash's placement changes the whole time.
In a scene where Monk starts cleaning up as he's having a conversation with someone, the placement of those plates do not add-up. He's holding a plate, but in the next close-up he puts a frying pan into the sink. The frying pan, which he already put into the sink earlier, but in the previous scene it was again on the stove. Finally, when the scene ends and he leaves, the frying pan is back on the stove.
I'm pretty sure the flowers look a bit different too.
And I'm just 15 minutes in. I'm really pondering here if these are just normal continuity errors that happen in film industry all the time, OR if these were made on purpose as some sort of easter eggs to the viewer, to contrast Monk's attempt of controlling his OCD.
Whatever it is, I just notice these things more easily than ever before, because I'm a media student and I've trained to notice such errors in my own work when I'm filming and editing stuff. So it's kinda funny how much there are these minor errors in films. I've always been very fascinated by them, but this episode has been so loud about those that I'm actually wondering if they're on purpose and easter eggs.
Oh and another technical thing that annoyed me a bit: The audio and video are not 100% in sync sometimes, especially with the first two episodes. I think in this 4th episode they got their shit together and it's fine now. Audio and video not being in sync is one of my biggest pet peeves in everything, and I'm super passionate about that when I'm editing stuff myself!

A slice of cheese anyone?
And so I complete the BA Film course on a random Wednesday afternoon, with Taylor Swift and Dubioza Kolektiv quotes embedded in my final submission. Rodney Copperbottom made it - in a foreign country, chasing her dream, she made her parents proud. Despite wanting to give up many a times, she finished what she started.
Tumblr media
So I thought I'd put a lil reflection on my filmmaking journey so far. Strap in - cheese incoming.
I started this course in the midst of the pandemic, arguably the worst time to start anything, but if I had one thing going for me it was that my filmmaking journey began when I was 11. At the time, I had a vision for myself becoming a comedy director, but with each film I made I was moving further and further away from the path I chose. Having spent my high school years engrossed in film books, video essays and trialling various filmmaking approaches, by the time I started my undergraduate degree, I wanted to break as many rules as possible.
Tumblr media
The summer before I started university, I attended a ten-day experimental film seminar in Croatia and fell in love with the avant-garde techniques. Retrospectively I understand why I was instantly drawn to these alternative processes - the reason I got into filmmaking in the first place was because I couldn’t choose one single creative medium to devote to. I saw film as a perfect amalgamation of my various interests – collaging, photographing, performing, and writing. I thought these were the essence of drama (their counterparts being editing, shooting, acting and screenwriting), but after I dipped my toes into experimental film, I realised they were more akin to artist films, as there they exist in their original form – different media mixed into an audio-visual experience.
Tumblr media
Throughout mu degree I struggled to understand where I fit in, at times doubting film school was the right choice for and thinking maybe I should have gone to art school, where my inter-media aspirations would be better accepted. However, when I discovered documentary film, pieces started falling into place. Documentary film was the middle ground between abstraction and narrative, and as such, allowed me to put both the drama skills, and artistic techniques to use within one medium.
Tumblr media
By the end of second year of my studies I realised my storytelling strengths lie with camerawork and editing, so I chose to specialise in those departments. I wanted to come out of this degree with technical knowledge that would allow me to get into the industry, but also stand on my own two feet as a freelancer. I wanted to master a craft that I could pursue as my daytime job, so that I can still devote myself to experimentation and personal filmmaking on the side.
Tumblr media
Now, at the end of my undergraduate course, I’m leaning towards editing more than anything. Throughout my education, I always enjoyed essay writing and I find that the academic research and writing are very akin to editing films, especially documentaries. Editing connects all my plans and aspirations after graduating - looking for jobs in post houses, applying for masters by research courses and developing documentary ideas. Through a process of elimination, I think I finally came to understand what made me fall in love with filmmaking – cutting and pasting, reshaping and reinventing what’s already there in an attempt to tell a brand-new story, one we equally have and haven’t seen before.
Tumblr media
Leaving uni is daunting because I feel like I finally figured it out - all the pieces fell into place and if I just had one more year I'd be able to make something I was really really proud of. But equally so, I think I'm already there, I just haven't noticed it until now. Oj, tato is the culmination of everything I have been naturally gravitating towards these past 4 years - my love for factual narratives, the need to distort and reflect images, collage them together and lay them against Tom Macfadyen's too good for this world score. This grad film was all I ever wanted and more - all I ever wanted was an all female crew, and what I got was the most gut-wrenching, soul fulfilling, emotional rollercoaster. Film aside, the four of us made some memories I will fondly replay in my old age (if dementia skips a generation).
And so, on a random Wednesday afternoon I abandon this project - because a work of art is never finished, only left behind - as it is time I return to all the unfinished films patiently awaiting my return. Eva's experimental kitchen is back in business baby!
Tumblr media
Stay tuned for the updates from this weekend because what follows is only the best weekend of the year - it's Alchemy Film and Arts Festival baby!!! Hawick calls, and I must answer.

Sometimes I get frustrated with how long it takes me to put videos together, but then I take a step back and look at what I'm doing. The above image is the final state of the video I did about different forms of love in Black Sails. I put the most effort into this one, color-coding all the clips, because I wanted to make sure I balanced the types of love and which relationships I was including. This was also the first time I directly subtitled everything, and learned to do noise reduction.
Compare that with "SAILWOLNATION":

This was the second video I did, it only took me part of an evening, it's a simple concept, and only 34 seconds in finished length. I have actually learned quite a lot in the past year, it turns out.
There are some videos out there that just put me on the floor with awe, I am flabbergasted by the talent people in fandom have. Hope in another year I could see myself making videos with that kind of skill.

What app do you use to edit?
For my older edits, I used Paint.net to edit the images than i put together in Wondershare Filmora X. Now i use Wallpaper Engine to add the breathing, and the visible heartbeat effect to the image, than i record the final "animation" with OBS, then i put the raw audio less video to Filmora to finish the edit. Thanks for asking ^^

Handmade DC intro title card for a Shazam film that I made up!!⚡️
This post is kinda interesting because I have not tried my hand at video editing in a while. I’m hoping to get one of my friends to help me install photoshop on my computer so I can remake this sequence with actual 3D assets. But for now? They’re hand drawn in procreate.
I thought I would share some behind the scenes of how I made this for anyone who might be interested in doing something similar! :D
[ Behind the Scenes Info Below ⬇️ ]
Okay so I decided to make this intro as kinda like a “ooh what if I made my own Shazam film? How would I do the opening DC title? I would want it to be like a dark and spooky night, then have the camera be panning down through the clouds. Then I could easily transition into the opening scene because that takes place during a dark and stormy night. OOoOoO.”
But first, in order to do that I had to make modifications to the DC logo. I didn’t want to use any premade 3D assets they had; I wanted to make my own. However, I don’t currently have photoshop, so I had to improvise and make a 2D logo kinda look 3D with some extra layers and shading tricks. I did this in procreate, but any art app will do really. Just keep your preferred perspective in mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then after I was done with making sure my perspective was all good and in check I then proceeded to decorate the hell out of the logo with a bunch of clipping masks lol. I just slapped a bunch of different things on there. Some lense flares, some random brushes, some multiply layers, whatever. I didn’t really have a plan in mind when I did this I just kinda went with the vibes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then after that I made another file where I just worked on the little sparkle effect that I added in. For the sparkle effect I just picked like a default brush in procreate that looked pretty and then animated it to do a little slide across the letter “D”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I did some work on the backgrounds. I made sure to have really “tall” files so that way I could make them slide down in my video editor. This kinda gives that vibe that we are descending through the clouds, hopefully towards an establishing shot, for our opening scene, for our fake movie.
I made two parts for this. One animated background where I changed to opacity of the backlight for each frame to kinda give the illusion that lightning was peaking through the clouds. The second was just some clouds that I was gonna overlay on top of the DC logo, so it just felt more like everything was in the scene together.
I would provide video examples of this, but tumblr only allows me to upload one video per post. And if you’re wondering what brushes I used to this? I just googled “Procreate free cloud brushes” and downloaded the top result.
The ones I’m using are made by an artist named DI, and I got them off of gumroad. Info for their socials provided in the third image below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then once I had all of those assets together I just edited them all together in a program called HitFilm Express. I used to like it a lot since it’s free, and I used to use it to edit YouTube videos. That was back when I used to upload my Minecraft videos with my friends online lol. However, recently HitFilm has put a lot of features I used to use behind a paywall so :/. I’m probably going to look for alternatives sometime soon.
Normally I don’t mind being restricted in some sense for a free program, but they disabled the ability to fade clips in and out, and I think that’s a vital tool. It’s a shame to see it locked behind a paywall because I used it in pretty much all my projects.
And lastly the audio! I just found free to use clips of rain sounds, thunder claps, and then some ambient music. The track you can hear in this short clip is the intro to the song Redeye - Green House (1994). The artist is also known as Tobias Beldermann if any of you guys were curious where I got that from.
Buttttt yeah! That’s about all I have for showing you guys how I made my little 5 second clip. I’m not really one who’s qualified to make “tutorials” in any sense, because most of what I post online is just me dicking around and having fun, so I don’t want to be super serious. But, I also like showing my process just so if anyone out there is maybe interested in doing something similar, well then they have some ideas for where to start.
Anyways, if you guys want to read my first couple scenes for my Shazam story Shazam:City of Brotherly Love I’m going to link it here.
It’s still a work in progress, and if I end up doing any edits I’m just going to make them to the the post itself. Just because it’s not really worth it to me, posting almost identical chapters/scenes over, and over again lol.
Okiii byyeee!! I hope you enjoyed!! ~✨
