nothing is made to sit and look pretty anymore because nobody has time to look anything.

everything is temporary. apartments have beige walls because plainness appeals more than any character would. it matches everything. does it look good? no. but it’s forgettable. your furniture is forgettable. coordinating takes time and money, and you don’t even know how long that’s going to last.

and i hate it! i hate it.

with how much we are relying on cars and how little the world beyond our homes and work matters, everything has become a god damn liminal space. we live in a featureless concrete hell. nobody’s going to care if the street lamps are pretty. we’re not close enough to REALLY look at them.

we’re not close to anything because we’re constantly moving. we can’t sit in one place.

it’s always go, go, go. there’s no time to linger and take in the beauty anymore. so there isn’t beauty. and there’s no reason to linger. there’s no reason to slow down because there’s nothing to look at. it’s this disgusting cycle of understimulation spawned from convenience.

let that pot roast stew for 10 hours. go on long walks that take up half of your day even if there’s nothing to look at but the cracks in the sidewalk. turn your phone off and listen to the birds for a half hour. sit on the porch at night and drink tea and think about nothing. fuck, man.

life isn’t about giving every single activity a purpose and outcome. just do things. take your time. literally where is the motivation to keep living if you can’t stop and take in the world for a little bit.

it doesn’t have to be easy to do shit, it just has to be fulfilling. that’s what makes it worth it.

regulus is staring again. not at anything, not towards anything. just staring. he started doing this when he was smaller, and more easily disturbed. there is something about watching your big brother be tortured that might mess you up a bit. regulus ponders. he does that too. but now, he is older, almost 18, he doesn't have the energy to consider what might have been. what might have been if sirius stayed. what might have been if he was born into a different family. those are pointless thoughts. it wont change anything. he has decided. now he just stares. at the liquid dripping from his finger tips. focus. it hits him in the back again. the burning hits him like a bullet, pushing him to his knees. hands shaking, eyes closed, no longer staring. there is no space in his head for pondering. just screaming. dont faint. dont faint, dont. curled on the floor he can hear laughter, it is kind of funny isnt it. hahahahahahahahahaha...

sometimes while i think about that while a lot of adults did not treat me very well as a kid i also get a lot of 'in hindsight this person was so good to me and i didnt even realize it until now' as an adult. today i was thinking about how the first anime convention i ever went to was when i was 10 and i asked the man working the manga cafe what manga was/what a good place to start was (because the con was very overstimulating for me and i had gotten lost) and he asked how old i was before recommending yotsuba and asking if i wanted any water or something to eat. its really simple but theres a lot of bad things that couldve happened or he could've been careless in his recommendation, but instead yotsuba has remained one of my favorite manga for years, and probably a large portion of why i continue to read manga as an adult... i think adults who try to involve kids in the world safely/kindly even in little ways make so much more of a difference than they ever really know.

#and i know that sounds silly like YES. it was just a bookr ecommendation #but i feel like a lot of people either dont really care about whats a good starting point for younger kids in their shared fan spaces #or dont really take the care to recognize different peoples ages would effect what they would both enjoy or #be capable of engaging with #not to mention theres a lot of manga that would NOT have been appropriate for a 10 year old to read #so the fact that he askedd and even asked what sort of thing i liked at the time #was very sweet. i think about him a lot and i hope hes doing well #txt #scratchpost

i love when words fit right. seize was always supposed to be that word, and so was jester. tuesday isn't quite right but thursday should be thursday, that's a good word for it. daisy has the perfect shape to it, almost like you're laughing when you say it; and tulip is correct most of the time. while keynote is fun to say, it's super wrong - i think they have to change the label for that one. but fox is spot-on.

most words are just, like, good enough, even if what they are describing is lovely. the night sky is a fine term for it but it isn't perfect the way november is the correct term for that month.

it's not just in english because in spanish the phrase eso si que es is correct, it should be that. sometimes other languages are also better than the english words, like how blue is sloped too far downwards but azul is perfect and hangs in the air like glitter. while butterfly is sweet, i think probably papillion is more correct, although for some butterflies féileacán is much better. year is fine but bliain is better. sometimes multiple languages got it right though, like how jueves and Πέμπτη are also the right names for thursday. maybe we as a species are just really good at naming thursdays.

and if we were really bored and had a moment and a picnic to split we could all sit down for a moment and sort out all the words that exist and find all the perfect words in every language. i would show you that while i like the word tree (it makes you smile to say it), i think arbor is correct. you could teach me from your language what words fit the right way, and that would be very exciting (exciting is not correct, it's just fine).

i think probably this is what was happening at the tower of babel, before the languages all got shifted across the world and smudged by the hand of god. by the way, hand isn't quite right, but i do like that the word god is only 3 letters, and that it is shaped like it is reflecting into itself, and that it kind of makes your mouth move into an echoing chapel when you cluck it. but the word god could also fit really well with a coathanger, and i can't explain that. i think donut has (weirdly) the same shape as a toothbrush, but we really got bagel right and i am really grateful for that.

grateful is close, but not like thunder. hopefully one day i am going to figure out how to shape the way i love my friends into a little ceramic (ceramic is very good, almost perfect) pot and when they hold it they can feel the weight of my care for them. they can put a plant in there. maybe a daisy.
