I have a serious question. So, do you fully comprehend how awesome you are? Because damn. You’re legit one of my fav artists. You just consistently churn out these heartfelt masterpieces—sketches, doodles, finished or unfinished, they all MEAN something. You’ve also ALWAYS been so nice to talk to. I often get discouraged by the lack of interaction I get on platforms when I try to go outside my comfort zone and reach out, especially on Twitter. But any time I’ve asked a question or made a comment, you always take the time to respond and that’s just…so kind of you. So considerate. You don’t have to do that, but you do and it’s just lovely.

Anyway… I randomly remembered you saying that you didn’t feel as comfortable drawing Donnie and I just have to say that, whether it feels more comfortable now or not, he looks fantastic! Then again, every character you draw does! And of course Leo is my fav—my comfort character—so I’m not going to lie, it’s fun to see you draw so much of him.

I just can’t get over all the details in your work. I’m no artist, but I can appreciate how much emotion goes into your art. The squiggly lines when someone is nervous, the specific looks in their eyes, small details like scratching when anxious (I know I commented on that on a previous post)—you’re just so great with showing emotion!

To/for all fanfic readers and writers, with lots of love ❤️:

Hey friends 💗 so, as many of you already know, a lot of fans (many of them fanfic writers) have been leaving tumblr lately and our community has been affected by a lot of negativity and stress for the compounding effects of multiple reasons. Though this is by no means the ONLY reason, fanfic writers have recently dealt with a lot of undue hate, unnecessary drama, and not enough appreciation.

Writers don’t only write for validation. HOWEVER, the experience and practice of writing comes with a lot of feelings of inadequacy and imposter syndrome. Moreover, writing is primarily a mode of connection. Al of art is. People who write, paint, make music, build stuff…we all do so as ways to express ourselves and connect with others. And getting to share what you write at the end of the writing process adds a layer of meaning to what you do that wouldn’t otherwise exist if you just saved it in a little folder somewhere on your device. So, when writers feel more stress and drama than appreciation, support, or any sign that the connection they reached out for has been made, it naturally makes us question what we do.

It pains me (and I know so may of my mutuals share this sentiment) to see so many talented and beautiful souls leave the fandom space because the culture of community and support that used to be here is no longer inclusive of everyone. It seems, these days, every time I log on, I’m seeing more and more mutuals saying that they’re going to leave, take a long break, or stop posting. I don’t know about you all, but I know I speak both, as a reader, and a writer, when I say that other people leaving is not good for them, for me, or for anyone who loves this fandom and this community.

What can we do about this?

Writers:

PLEASE OH PLEASE KEEP WRITING.

You’re doing amazing. You are the glue that holds this community together. You make art. Inspire conversations. Stir other people’s imaginations.

Art produces art. I started posting on here because I read the writing of other talented people on here that MADE ME want to start doing it.

Whether you write little blurbs, take request, writer multi-chapter, long, thousand + word fics, or just concepts; whether you write smut, fluff, angst….whatever it is that you do, you are valid. Important. Needed. Necessary.

When the inevitable “hiatus” occurs or even in between shows….who do you think this fandom depends on for keeping the energy alive? Writers.

Writing can be a lonely and self-loathing experience. We need each other. Reach out to other writers. Lift them up. Support them.

Share your work with one another. Discuss. Fangirl. Celebrate yourselves and each other. No, no, no ,no!! I heard that. I heard that sneaky voice in the back of your head telling you that you don’t have the right to call yourself a writer or to celebrate cuz you’re not even that good. FUCK THAT SHIT. YES YOU DO. YES YOU ARE.

Readers

Y’all are so so so special. ❤️ yes we write to entertain ourselves. Yes we do it cuz it’s fun. But when I tell you that there is no greater joy to me than reading y’all’s thoughts in the tags when you reblog, or seeing your comments or asks….literally means more to me than anything.

Do NOT let anyone make you feel bad or guilty about enjoying fanfiction.

If you like a fic, engage with it. Like, comment, reblog, reach out to the writer and let them know that you liked it.

Bonus points if you let them know WHAT you liked about it. I promise you, you’ll have that talented and slutty and sweet mf kicking screaming twirling their hair and smiling for the rest of the day if you tell them you enjoyed what they wrote.

You are never bothering us. We never get tired of your kindness. It’s never repetitive. It’s never meaningless. Any time that you say something, your comment will pop into our head when we next question whether or keep going or not.

Sooooo….what do we do about this?

I encourage you, whether you’re a new writer or a writer with a platform, please don’t stop because some childish killjoys with inferiority complexes wanna take your shine away. Post your work. Enjoy the unique pleasures of making art outside of the structures of capitalist consumption. Nobody is paying you for this. Nobody is estimating the value of your worth and trying to market your labor. Do you know how rare that is???

Writers support writers. Lift each other up. Share each others work. Give each other feedback. Remind each other of each others talent when you see someone starting to doubt themselves or haters getting under their skin.

Readers: like, COMMENT, FUCKIN REBLOG. it takes an extra second. It’s worth more than you know. Do it. It’s the least you can do for someone who has poured their heart and soul into something and delivered it to you on a silver platter.

Writers, readers, shitposters, fans a like: look out for one another. Take care of each other. Have each others backs. If you see a hateful comment, if you see someone trying to gate-keep, shame, or alienate anyone for any reason, CALL. THEM. OUT. Actions have consequences. If you’re so cowardly as to take yiu hate from one platform to another, you don’t have the write to make people feel like shit and ruin their hobby without consequences. You’ll be called on to answer for your bullshit.

There is no hierarchy within the fandom. You don’t get to tell someone how matty will feel about them as a fan and you don’t get to judge the way that someone participates in this fandom.

This month, a lot of your favorite authors will be posting October/ fall/ Halloween themed fics because of this. I think it’s the perfect time to revisit the way that we do reader and writer appreciation around here. I encourage you all to engage with fanfiction more personally and help make this fandom safe for everyone.

Written for a lot of different fandoms, most recently for the Thai gl Gap, but in the past I’ve written for the Wrestling fandom (specifically Baysha/Charlynch), Power Rangers (2017), 1 for American Horror Story, 1 for Batwoman, and a couple old fall out boy sprinkled in.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Behind Closed Doors, How Could You Possibly Know?, Look Me In The Eyes, Don’t Look Back In Anger, The Fear of Falling Apart

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

YES, I feel like there’s so much community in fic writing and I love being able to connect with otherwise strangers over media we both enjoy.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don’t purposely write angsty “endings” it’s more like I give up on an idea half way through before we can get to the happy ending, like “I Run Back Thoughts of You” is enemies to lovers but only has 1 chapter so we still in the enemies phase…

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably Can I Break Down Your Walls? There’s so many ups and downs in that fic but like the ending is so cute and cheesy

8. Do you get hate on any fics?

Not a lot but I’ve definitely got a weird comment or two, I can definitely write some darker themes and people have been weird about it once or twice but it’s praise and support 99% of the time

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Ya, def grew into that, wasn’t something I touched in the beginning of writing fic, but like the last few years she’s become more prominent

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Nah, it’s def not my cup of tea in my own writing style, but I can appreciate when other writers do it. Putting different characters/people together like that is a lot for my brain sometimes 😂

Not that I know of…👀

Someone contacted my a while ago asking if they could translate Behind Closed Doors into Spanish to like record audio of them reading for their YouTube channel…I said yeah but never really checked back 😂

Ya, I co-wrote a like sequel one-shot of a Power Rangers fic years ago (I Hate To Say I Told You So)

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

…probably still Sasha Banks and Bayley even tho we getting crumbs these days…

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sasha Hates Christmas, I usually update it every year around Christmas time and it follows a close to real life story line but I haven’t updated it since 2021

16. What are your writing strengths?

I feel like there’s a good like general flow, like everything tends to move solidly if that makes sense. I feel like I’m also a poet at heart so I be killing it with the comparisons and like painting the scene with metaphors.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I feel like I could work on like making things more realistic, I feel like I always make endings perfect and don’t allow for like human error/nuance all the time.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue language in fic?

I have before sparingly, it’s not really my fav, I took 5 years of Spanish in high school…but still can’t w correct grammar/phrasing so I don’t really attempt it

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Hate to admit it but the first fic I wrote was like 2013 about Demi/Selena on wattpad and I was down bad

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

This is hard, I love a lot of my one-shots but I feel like the longer chaptered fics were truly like a labor of love especially with how many times I wanted to quit them. Soooo probably Purple Hurts But Blue Stings Worse or Behind Closed Doors

how do you think male ccs can help with the misogyny issue without speaking over female ccs? Cuz while I appreciate dreams reply, I am frustrated that some people only care abt what Hannah said because Dream said something. And I hate that so much discourse on Twitter rn isn’t “we should discuss misogyny” and is instead “is dream doing the bare minimum to support women?” Like shut upppp

i think dream was good in what he did HE didn’t take the attentjon away from what hannah was saying it was the fans that prioritised dream supporting his friends bc they aren’t necessarily fans of hannah (and makes cc’s often get praised for the bare minimum) but he dint direct any of the attention away from her or talk over her .

obviously everybody will want to see different things but if men were to get involved in the awareness of how women are streamed in an independent tweet it’d be good that they don’t be vague, just saying things like ‘the women who play in mcc deserve support’ like yeah that’s great but it’s very general and doesn’t actually shut down any of the behaviours from fans

i feel like it’s be good to direct the attention back to female cc’s, making sure to mention the exact treatment and the names of the women who are being affected. just making sure that they’re not taking credit for standing up for women or acting like a knight in shining armour for saying misogyny is bad . because we know the fans will put them on a pedestal for saying it . so as long as they make the effort to direct the fans towards the women speaking out whether talking about how they’re disappointed that fans of the game are treating x participant in y and encouraging people to support way or a tweet that again centers the female cc as opposed to their opinion on it i would like that kind of thing

but again it depends on who you ask because some people like any kind of support some people like even stricter support it just depends . as long as it doesn’t feel performative

I remember when I first came across Red Light and instantly saw the Joker and Harley parallels but what I like is that MC doesn’t seem to have a overt obsession with Hoseok. She still feels like his psychiatrist to me.

If I remember correctly Joker doesn’t even kiss Harley before she goes FULL bat shit. He didn’t put any effort to courting her but gives her false promises and plays into her insecurities.

Hoseok does nun of that, if anything he’s actually acted upon his sentiments, even if they are a lil unorthodox but he showed up. Hoseok is the first to tell MC that she’s too good for this place and people.

Harley was a means to an end so Joker could get out of prison. Then when Harley wouldn’t fucking die cuz she’s honestly too crazy, he just keeps her around for when an expendable situation arises where he’s in the middle of it and needs to escape😭

But again Hoseok stops shit before MC can even get her shit rocked. (Good for my baby😭)

And MC has her head on straight. I even appreciate how much she’s in her head, contemplating how she should toe the line of her relationships.

This is your story to write, but unlike every other ask, I would like for her to remain fairly stable. Like I remember in Part 1 where she smiles at the beheading of a faculty member but coming to understand her character that seems more like a morally grey “that’s well deserved” smile rather than some sadistic killer “I no longer have ANY morals” expression.

Really I can see her becoming more comfortable (morally grey) with the killing of people but never doing it herself unless it was an ABSOLUTE last resort. And honestly Hoseok would have prolly dealt with it before it gets to that point. I would even say he wouldn’t want her to kill or her psyche to warp because that’s what attracted him to her in the first place.

At every turn he’s tried to keep her from being traumatized in his own way. To be honest if she was to become crazy it wouldn’t be for Hoseok’s affection or because of anything he did. It would be these damn people and she would finally say “Fuck it” for herself and the liberation of the nightmares. To her, she would be completely in the right for her actions. I can just see the news calling her crazy for her actions when from a social justice stand point I would call her very sane.

But hopefully that never happens as I think Hoseok and Dr. Kim are a pretty “good” support system (I’m saying this now especially because of Kim. We don’t really know him that well. He could surprise us.)

MC serves as the only light and kindness in that wretched place and Hoseok most certainly wouldn’t turn her, even if she asked (if that’s even possible. Can ya’ll just let the story play out?!😭 DAMN😐)

That’s my Ted Talk. And my petition for a MC to stay the same but maybe starts to see things more from Hoseok’s perspective which even he doesn’t seem without reason. Ya’ll really paint this man as a unhinged killer when he’s really calculated. And that’s actually the worse kind of killer😬 (Uh Candi, you sure you not a mercenary or sum shit cuz you a lil too realistic with the…👀😐)

Thank you SO MUCH for this honestly I’m teary eyed. It’s everything I’ve ever tried to convey in Red Light up to this point all written out beautifully. Just splendid. I haven’t had someone really explain their experience reading it like his and wow 🥹

I can’t say TOO much because plot points could possibly be given away but yes, I think it’s become clear at this rate that Hoseok isn’t actively trying to drive her insane. Every move he makes is for a reason and he doesn’t kill mindlessly. Likewise, MC is trying to hold onto her sanity and stay level headed. Not just for herself, but for her patients. She’s very interested in Hoseok, yeah, but she’s not obsessed to the point of being unhinged or even close to that tbh.

And a final point that you highlighted and I think is very important, every damn character in Red Light is morally gray. They’ll do things that seem kind and fair, they’ll do things that seem insane and horrible. It’s not black and white, it’s every damn shade in between. PLEASE remember that when reading and pondering their personalities and actions ♥️

My fave qualities are; the goofy grin he gets when he tells a bad joke. he likes to entertain ppl any chance he gets, even if the jokes are terrible. second, his fighting skills 👀👀, not only is it cool to watch him beat up some bad guys, or fight against zombies, but also??? hot as hell 😳💦 his hugs!! big arms to hold me with, big round belly to squish and hold onto, the way i can bury my face into the crook of his neck!!! good shit!!! and sometimes his stubble scratches my face a bit hehe he has a rough exterior but he’s also a big softie on the inside. look hes a jerk, but he has a heart of gold. no matter how much he might try and play it off, he cares abt the ppl in his life, and its just really nice to see!! hes also protective over his family; despite everything he just goes all out for them like he loves his family so much to the point of self sacrifice and aaaaa ;A; also???? hes just so endearing all together!! like yeah he has his charisma, yknow what with him being a conman and all that, but the mans cute ok!!!! he sings to himself whenever hes doing some mundane task, he made dipper and mabel fishing hats, he tears up when mabel gives him the “our hero” sash, HES JUST SO ;;;;;;A;;;;;;; one more thing i gotta mention, he can be pretty perceptive. he can tell when ppl are sad, and will always offer to listen to them talk. and sometimes he helps take their mind off of whats bothering them! that rly helps me out, cuz sometimes i struggle with expressing my negative feelings, and i tend to just shrug it off. but stan manages to sniff them out, and he pulls me to the side like “hey i noticed you were doing this lately, something troubling ya?” and then we just talk abt it. it helps me string a proper sentence together and sort out my thoughts. he helps keep things real, cuz sometimes i dont even notice smth is bad until hes like “oof hon thats not ok. you cant let them treat you like that.” he helps me recognise bad treatment and disrespect, and im forever grateful for that cuz shits hard to tell sometimes ;A;

As for stan I reckon he’d say smth like this: “Fave qualities about her? Geez, where do I even start? Okay, first things first, she is the sweetest most adorable gal I’ve ever met. I’m not kiddin’ when i say she’ll give ya cavities. Second, she…she always knows what to say, y’know? Sometimes when I’m having a day that’s just the absolute shits, she swoops in, says a couple of sweet words and BOOM, instant mood lifter. I don’t know how or where she gets this amount of wisdom from, but man, she knows just how to make ya feel heard and…and wanted. She’s great like that.

“She gives great hugs too, she’s so soft and squishy, i even tried to get her a patent for it!! Her hugs should be shared with the world! Could cure depression with that!! Heh heh, nah but for real, there’s just something about the way she holds ya. It’s so close and warm, comforting even. Look, I’m a big guy in case ya can’t tell, and I love bein’ the big spoon, but sometimes...sometimes you gotta let her do it. It’s-it’s just nice, yknow?

“OH!! how could I forget?? Her voice. Hooooo baby I could listen to her sing until I leave this crummy plane of existence. Even sirens are jealous of her, hell, I suspected her as one at the beginning. Not only does she have the voice of an angel, she’s got the most amazing laugh. If I make her laugh, I feel like a million bucks. Like, I KNOW I did something right if I got a laugh out of her. ‘Cause she’s really funny too!! The shit the comes outta her mouth, lemme tell ya.

“But there’s one thing I really do appreciate, it’s how patient and considerate she is with everyone. Don’t get me wrong, she’s definitely the kinda gal that can kick some serious butt when it counts, but THAT’S why she can be so intense. She believes in that “humans have always been kind” kinda stuff, and that’s somethin’ i’ve seen her fight for. It’s...kinda inspiring actually. The moment i saw her treat my brother with this...i dunno, gentleness? Just this straight forward kindness that’s kinda blunt but also...real? I dunno what I’m sayin’. But basically, I knew that she was a keeper the moment i saw those two together.

And then take the steps to make it better. You need to soften up to love and start loving yourself unconditionally.

What you need to hear is that you need to let yourself be taken care of! Go out (ofc be safe cuz we are in a pandemonium), and have fun! With some friends if you can. Or you can go over to someone’s house and have fun there, but let someone else host it! You need to relax. Step down from taking care of everything. Let someone else fill your cup instead. Instead of listening to everyone else’s problems, talk to them for a change. Put yourself first. You are good enough and you’re doing a good job. Don’t feel like you have to be constantly doing stuff for others to be worthy. Surrender and just enjoy life. You don’t have to constantly productive! Just relax for a change and let someone else do the work.

Louis came online to tweet about The Snuts again (the Scottish indie band he followed after their livestream recently)-- or wassss that why he was around? He also unfollowed Jedward, the Irish singing twin act who got famous on The X Factor, who were tweeting a series of posts about 1D and contracts that hadn’t really gotten a lot of attention- but OH BOY DID THEY after Louis unfollowed! “We have 1D’s contract which was sent to use by mistake cuz we had the same label! Same management! Same security and accountants!” they said, and a long series of related tweets, including “Legally posting contracts online is gonna end up in court but we’ve known for many years the situation! Niall! Liam! Louis! Zayn! Harry! You’re survivors”, “There’s a reason Syco is called Psycho! 1D and Little Mix are legally fucked in contracts and can never speak out so we are!”, “There’s nothing MODEST about their previous management dictating their every move from Relationships to how they live their own lives! Justice for 1D & Little Mix”, and “Simon Cowell thinks he’s the Mafia leader of the music industry when in reality he’s nothing but a bad facelift.” They went on to talk more generally about industry issues, saying “eating disorders and depression are very common in the music industry”, “When artists ask too much questions they’re a threat and are blacklisted and not given the Radio/PR cuz they want them to fail”, and more. This stuff isn’t news but as long as it continues to be relevant, I guess it will need to be repeated.

Louis did not respond to the tweets (the screenshot of him commenting on it in a group-chat is fake), but the guys from The Snuts did respond to his support of their album, which is poised to potentially hit #1 this week; “Yes brother appreciate that massively.” Blogger Jaiden Michael, who has been tweeting about Louis being gay (ie, attempting to use his public platform to out him) for many years did respond so he could get back to doing that, with a bonus of bragging that he’d been doing it longer. That’s not really something to be proud of, mate! And Rebecca Ferguson, who has been talking a lot about her experiences of getting screwed over by Syco/ The X Factor (as well as the very memorable “a boyband member told me they were being picked up and thrown against walls [by management] when they challenged decisions”) also commented, calling for a Netflix documentary about it all. Any platform with a legal department brave (and well funded) enough to take on that project will definitely have a wide and ever increasing pool of people willing to talk on the record...

Anyway, Liam is playing a show! A show that sounds really weird and confusing thanks to the absolutely ludicrously jargon-y press announcement but is actually not that complex. The BAFTAS (British Film and TV Awards) are next week (April 10 & 11 at Royal Albert Hall) and Liam is performing as part of the show, but also it’s a special high tech performance, because the awards show is presented by a mobile network. He’ll perform on the 11th at 6:45, viewable in real time but only via a special app (and augmented reality, more on that in a minute) 15 minutes before the main broadcast, but then he’ll also perform as the opening act of the broadcast show at 7:00 (viewable by everyone). But not just him! The early version is only viewable through the special 5G app that will turn Liam into an avatar (in an animated scape of some kind if I understand correctly which I definitely might not) but that’s just the set up-- “the avatar will then join Payne as a hologram on the stage of Royal Albert Hall.” YESS CLONE!LIAM! INTO IT!! So he’ll perform a 15 minute set, which you can get this special app to watch, with him as a cartoon, they’ll record the avatar singing, then he’ll immediately perform the same set again (on the opposite side of the stage one assumes) and they’ll project a hologram of the performance he just did to, like, harmonize with him. So that’s really silly, and also I LOVE IT, it will be ridiculous(ly awesome?!) Just think, finally one of them will do a live show collab with a member of 1D!! (WDYM that wasn’t what you meant? Aren’t you excited, I don’t understand I thought this was what you wanted??) Anyway if you think that’s weird, wait’ll you see his promo spot announcements which say “we’re BLEEPING excited!” and have him bleeped out as if he were swearing every couple minutes, and honestly make no sense; possibly they were trying to imply they were bleeping out exciting details which will later be revealed? Not real sure.

And finally, some random Bonus Content to tie the days reports together, why do Louis and the guy from The Snuts both follow the mobile network that’s sponsoring Liam’s BAFTAS performance? I really couldn’t tell you.

Sorry if this has been asked before or isn't something you can say but is there anyway for Cove to confess in step 4? I wanted him to confess in step 3 and followed all the steps to make him do it but ended up texting my family instead of Cove at the end.

Hello! I heard that Cove is on the spectrum, albeit undiagnosed. As someone who is ND, this makes me UNBELIEVABLY happy. I literally was brought to tears! Thank you for that!

Out of curiosity, will Cove be diagnosed in Step 4? I have a strong feeling y’all won’t make it a HUGE deal/make it out to be negative, so I’m not worried about that whatsoever! I’m just curious just he’ll off handedly mention it? Or will it just not be touched upon at all (which is ok!)?

I’m happy it made you happy! Admittedly, Cove simply being someone with autism that grew up not being diagnosed was something I included for myself. I didn’t really think anyone would notice or ask about it, aha. But players did start to have questions about his traits, so I started to talk about it outside of the game. It’s great to see it get such a positive response and now I do feel like having it be a non-topic may have been the wrong choice and bringing it up would’ve been good in terms of having positive representation for that. I don’t know if I’ll find a way to mention it in Step 4 now, with how far along the game is, but I am at least thinking about it when originally it wasn’t something I really even considered.

Hey! Just wanted to say thank you for Our Life. It's been a bright spot and a needed escape in what's otherwise been a crummy year. I know you just did a Q&A post but I figured I'd ask anyway. Was just curious about Step 4. Will it be similar to the other Steps in that it consists of several different moments or will it just be one long sequence?

Step 4 is shorter than the prior Steps because it’s just an epilogue rather than a full arc of a story. It’ll consist of scenes that all happen in a set row one after the other. There won’t be a collection of Moments to choose from. But it’ll still be very sweet and fun.

How much I earn varies a lot month to month based on Steam sales, Patreon backers, and how many projects are in full production at the time. It’s also hard to say how much I make historically, since that also changes dramatically year by year. But I do earn enough to work on these games full time! I really appreciate all the support that allows me to do that.

Yes! Cove is a nervous boy himself and also super cautious about doing anything the MC doesn’t like, so clear consent from both is absolutely needed for anything to happen. It’s a conversational sexy times Moment with stops/starts so the two can talk about how they’re feeling, rather than a heat of the moment just going for it kind of thing.

Hey!! I was wondering how long the wedding dlc would be? Will it be broken up into moments, or just one big event?

It’s one long series of scenes all in a row rather than a collection of Moments to pick from. It’s the shortest and the least expensive of all the DLCs. It’s not super crucial to get and those who aren’t into big weddings can totally skip it without worry.

Haha, thank you. He doesn’t hate them but he’s certainly not pleased with them. Jeremy is either uncomfortable with or annoyed by people being sweet on him, depending on how they approach it. He’s far more comfortable with jerkiness. It lets him relax and he can be himself without it being a problem, since he’s also a jerk. He feels a level of guilt being such a little punk to kind people, not enough to be a better person but still.

Has Cove dated or been interested in someone other than MC?

Nope! He stays single over the course of the game if he’s not with the MC.

Is Step 4 more mature? Or it's gonna be set in similar atmosphere as Step 3?

Step 4 is a similar atmosphere as Step 3. Though, it’s actually kind of less mature-topic heavy than Step 3 since it’s just a ‘hey, let’s check in on the gang to see what they’re up to’ style epilogue rather than a story arc with serious issues.

will there be new music for now and forever?? or will the old our life music be reused?

It’s gonna be a brand new soundtrack. We’ll be opening up a job position for that soon.

Hi, is it okay if we use the assets in Our Life (like the sprites) for fanworks or fan content content, like edits?

Sure! Just as long as you don’t use the assets made by those artists to make money.

Quick clarification on Step 3 choices: I hope I didn't come off rude (because I LOVE the game, really!!), I was just curious because the intro threw me off at times. For example, you could choose how you felt about Elizabeth in Step 2 (Dinner), but during the Step 3 intro, it says that you got closer to Liz and I didn't get a choice in it.

For the example, it can’t be helped that you’re closer to Liz in Step 3 than you were in Step 2 because she’s inherently closer to the MC regardless of whether you liked her or not in Step 2. Her feelings are out of your control and the game isn’t so dramatic that you can push her affection away and not let her bond with you, haha. But ‘being closer’ can still be relative. For some people maybe that means you’re best buds now and for others it might just mean you’re not fighting all the time any more. If there’s other parts you want to mention, feel free to let us know.

Did the illustrator for Our Life change?

We have many OL artists! The main artists who set the game’s style haven’t changed, but there’s multiple other artists who help finish assets.

Hey! First, I just want to say I've really enjoyed how detailed OL got with gender identity and sexuality and how respectful the topics were handled! It's been so wonderful to play since the experiences could be close to my own (I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up at parts). Second, I was wondering, would future games explore the topic of polyamory? I'd love to see more visual novels allow room for that and I saw you've explored the topic before.

Thank you! We do want to include polyamory in at least some of our future projects. Floret Bond, which might be what you’re referring to when mentioning how we’ve explored the topic before, is on hold unfortunately. So right now I’m not sure when something might release or what will be the first game of ours to come out with poly relationships (we might do something else before FB is done). We’ll have see how things ends up coming together.

Hey um. I feel like im not allowed to ask this on the private discord cuz people will yell at me but why is there so much focus on OL2 and not finishing OL1 stuff? I like the new people but i kind of want to finish cove's story and get derek and baxter stuff first. didn't people pay for it?

I’m sorry, I don’t understand entirely what’s making that situation a concern. There’s a channel in the discord for critique where no one is allowed to comment back. People can voice things they’re worried about without any way for others to push back on it. And the two teams working on the OL games are different. We try to post pretty often about how we’re hiring brand new people to start on Our Life: Now & Forever. The OL1 team is all still working on OL1 like normal. There’s only more updates on the Patreon for OL2 because the expansions to the first game are mostly script-based at this point while OL2 is just starting to get all its art, which means there’s a lot more to show off as previews.

Also, there was a Kickstarter for the first Our Life, if that’s what you mean by people paying for it. But one of the stretch goals was to start Our Life 2 early, before fully completing Our Life 1, so that the new game could be out sooner. It wouldn’t make sense to stop doing OL2 work because that would be going against what backers were promised. Maybe you didn’t get the full story before and hopefully this clears it up!

Hello! I know it's up to every player but.. What is your recommendation for playing order? Did you ever had any timeline events planned?

I didn’t make the events with a planned timeline. The events got made simply as I had ideas for them and then I just kind of organized them from left to right on the screen in an order to space out more dramatic ones between more lighthearted ones. Any order the player wants to go with is totally valid!

The Step 4 epilogue is free! The Cove Wedding DLC does cost money, though. Those are planned to be shorter than the usual Steps/DLCs.

Yeah, you can. It’s not super exact or detailed, but there are options about it.

Is there a pandemic in Our Life world, or is it just in a better timeline with no pestilence?

Our Life is pandemic-free! That didn’t exist when we began working on the project and it’s not something we’d like to feature in this story now that it has unfortunately come along, aha.

After being sick/scared you have to continue to be upset/unwell. If you calm down and decide to just chill you’ll end up playing tic-tac-toe.

Hi, GB Patch! Since Lee was initially commissioned to only appear in two Steps does this mean she won't appear in the Wedding DLC? I really like her character so it'll be a little weird to not have our cousin at our wedding, aha.

She is gonna be in Step 4/the wedding DLC after all! We’re still working with her creator to make sure it fits with what they wanted.

Is Sunset Bird based on a real place? Asking for a friend, not trying to move there or anything. 👀

It’s based on small beach towns in So-Cal, but not one specific town you could go see in real life, I’m afraid. It’d be nice if it was real, though.

another day of school, another day of.. well, another day of boredom

you had to admit though, school had become a lot more fun since you and oikawa got together;)

altho you were in different classes, you’d still pass each other in hallways and see each other during breaks

and ofc every interaction, no matter how small, definitely made your day brighter

the smaller interactions consisted mainly of random head pats as he walks pass by, or a smirk and a wink whenever you two make eye contact

when there weren’t as many people around,,, maybe a hug or a kiss if either of you felt like it

and very rarely..

a makeout session in an empty classroom or staircase

its rare but it does happen

and it was happening… right now

school ended about half an hour ago and everyone either left or went to do their club activities

which was what oikawa should probably be doing too,, but today he just “felt like going in a little later”

and so there you two were, in the dark corner of an abandoned classroom grasping at the other as if you haven’t seen them in years

“good luck with practice” you said before giving him a small wave and walking off

did you see the dark mark your lipstick left on his cheek?

well,,,, you already turned to walk away and oikawa was already entering the gym

so no.

anyways,, as oikawa entered the gym, the first thing he saw was his beloved iwa-chan

looking not very happy

oikawa waved sheepishly as he turned his head to the side to look at where everyone else was

this for some reason made iwaizumi look even more not happy

makki and mattsun then walked over and snickered upon seeing oikawa

“ah was y/n here? why didn’t you invite her to watch hmm?~” makki teased

he laughed to himself

and with that he wiped off the remnants of your lipstick and hurried over to start practice

later tho, he asks you to kiss him again wearing that lipstick

today, you’re boyfriend, the one and only Kuroo Tetsurou, had a volleyball match

and ofc being the amazing, supportive gf you were, you were present in the stands, cheering him on

you didn’t get to meet or even talk to him before the match started, save for a few quick texts

so when he came on to the court for warm up and spotted you in the crowd,,,

he gave a cheeky wink and wave

you could practically feel the confidence roll off him in waves but you knew, deep down, he was the tiniest bit nervous too

afterall, the opponents weren’t a weak team by any standard

they were strong and known for their relentless attacks

which were put to display almost immediately after the game started

nekoma held on though, and managed to put in a few attacks of their own to level the game

you could see the hard work behind each of the members’ skills, having witnessed a lot of it yourself

it was most clear in kuroo tho

and as he jumped to block another spike, you were on the edge of your seat

the boys just needed one more point… which came when kuroo shut down the last spike

you and the rest of the people in the stands around you erupted into cheers

and as they were leaving the court, you ran to steal kuroo away for a more personal cheer

the two of you walked the halls of the stadium talking abt the game

you were gushing about this block and that and he was smiling at your gushing cuz damn was his y/n cute

N E WAYSSS,,, he received a text from kenma saying that they were all waiting for him at the bus

“i should go.. don’t wanna keep them waiting long”

“yeah.. you should”

before he could move tho, you tiptoed and placed a big fat kiss on his cheek

you swear you saw a blush on those cheeks as you backed down

he grinned and gave you a kiss of his own on your forehead before saying bye and running off

as he did, you realized you forgot to mention the lip-shaped mark on his cheek

anyway,, kuroo arrives all smiles to where the team are waiting

and make no mistake they all CLEARLY see evidence of ur “little” kiss from back there

they just kinda,,,, don’t say anything at first?

kenma rolled his eyes and went back to doing whatever on his phone

yaku glared at it out of spite or some similar emotion

the others just choose to ignore mainly cuz they assume kuroo already knows and chose to keep it there

to them its just kuroo being a cheesy mf who was rubbing the non-single life in their faces or smth

ofc he has no idea tho

which just makes it all the more better when lev says

“y/n has nice lipstick”

and kuroo’s just like wtf ?? whatcha goin on bout my gf’s lipstick hUH

and he says that.. or something similar at least

and lev just points to his cheek like

“duhh i can see it right there”

he grabs his phone, opens the front facing camera, and is met with the outline of your lips on his cheek

and thats when he obviously started blushing

but then he just kind of smirked once he realized you knew about the mark

when yaku sees the smirk he went “OMFG JUST WIPE IT OFF ALREADY !! WE GET IT !! YOU ARENT SINGLE YOU GET KISSES STFU”

not like that but practically exactly what he was trying to say anyway

tbh kuroo’s a little reluctant to rub it off cuz idk,, he likes it ??

but he does anyway cuz they were still in public and there were teachers who were gonna come soon and all the other reasons

once hes comfortably seated in the bus tho, with a clean cheek, he sends u several texts

ohh okay! so to kick it off, can we get ateez members’ reactions to their very successful partner taking them to a company party like their trophy wife/husband/partner — not in a derogatory way tho!! but just like,, flaunting the members around and going on about how handsome and hardworking and amazing they are, even though everyone’s attention should be on their partner in that big event?

This is very different from the stuff I normally write but honestly I had so much fucking fun doing it. Like genuinely this made me smile like an idiot the whole time.

Hongjoong:

It's ur birthday or sum shit, but here's the dealio, he had some big work promotion at some smaller company. Most people haven't heard of it and it's nothing like the major corporation you work for so most people there just think of him as your trophy husband cuz he's so good-looking. while the party and presents were for you, you just could stop bring up how proud you were of him. He would immediately shut it down every time you brought it up, "yeah thank baby, I appreciate it. Hey, guys don't you think my baby is beautiful tonight?" Just won't let it distract from your attention no matter how much you bring it up. He doesn't think that he should be praised for doing what he should be doing. It's a nice sentiment and it makes him giggle but he wishes you would just let the guests congratulate you.

Seonghwa:

It's some work party on your behalf at your home. And Seonghwa planned the whole thing. Your not gonna deny you were just looking for a hot husband with social perks (read: rich parents and rich friends) but after meeting Seonghwa you genuinely fell so hard and so fast for how humble he was despite his wealthy upbringing, and you wanted to work even harder to provide him with the lifestyle he had always had at home. And he is happy to fulfill his house husband role for his doting partner. So yall are just happy and in love. Everyone at the party is your coworker and honestly, he would probably have just been your arm candy under any other circumstances, except you keep reminding people how great of a job he did getting everything set up. From a 5-star catering company to a live band, to imported wine from somewhere fancy, the whole thing took him weeks to put together and you will be dammed if he doesn't get the recognition for a job well done. He takes the praise blushing and mumbles quiet thank yous to all you and all guests who praise him, but he leaves it at that. If they ask him questions about the things around him he will keep his answers short and minimal yet polite before slipping away. Despite planning it, it isn't his party and he wants to keep it that way.

Yunho:

it's actually your friend's launch party for something or other. But you had a fair amount to do with the starting of the company as an investor and your friend had wanted to honor you as much as her. But here's the thing. Yunho's also pretty fucking cool, he doesn't have a permanent job, instead, he bounces around to all kinds of random things to keep himself entertained instead of just being at home all the time. the entire fucking time you're like "oh but have you heard what Yunho's been up to lately." He tries to one-up you with praise. Every time you say something cool he does, he brings up something cool you have done. And it just gets more and more intense as the night goes on to the point where the other giggles just fucking giggle cuz yall are so obvious in love.

Yeosang:

Yalls wedding is gonna be the social event of the year. You both come from very prominent families, but Yeosangs family got their money from fame not business. So when yall got engaged there was quite a bit of gossip about how "real" the relationship even was. Who the "throphy" was would change based on who you asked and it was getting annoying reading all the headlines. It was your wedding shower, and it was no secret that most of the people there were there for you and not him, but he couldn't care less. People kept coming up to you trying to talk business, and you were endlessly shutting them down because this was a day for both you and your soon to be husband, not for social climbers to try and get on your good side. The wonderful thing about Yeosang however is how much he can read you emotions even when you are trying to hide them. His course of action was simple. You both just fucking leave. You both had already talked to your actual friends and at a certain point you couldn't be bothered to keep up appearances with people who didn't respect both of you equally. So you left. Probably went and got some food in your cocktail attire. Much better use of time anyway.

San:

You're some kind of model or something. So it's like fashion week. So the whole time u have cameras shoved in your face and are being followed everywhere you go. But ur mans San is also incredibly beautiful, so you play a little game where whenever you go out all you do is put on sweats and a hoodie and you bring him out with him dressed in full fashion week regalia so the photographers are fucking confused who they are supposed to be taking pictures of. He thinks it's funny ao he plays along, wearing whatever you put him in and posing dramatically for literally every photo he can. You two go through the posted photos absolutely howling at them all night.

Mingi:

Your some big-time producer and Mingi is this like an underground rapper. Yall have been together long before you ever made it big and back before you got the job you lived almost exclusively off Mingi's part-timejob. But now the turntables have flipped and he can live mostly of your income allowing him to focus on his music and yall wouldn't have it any other way. But here's the shit. Some dopey fucking pop star you produce for comes over for dinner and makes a "joke" about mingi being a freeloader and you get so fucking petty. Especially after seeing Mingi's dejected face. So basically you help mingi produce a professional track and release it legitimately and not just on SoundCloud or in some shitty nightclub, and it fucking blows up way more than the other person music ever did and you just do nothing but talk up how amazingly talented Mingi is to your boss and he gets signed after the other person is dropped from the label. It's a great time.

Wooyoung:

Allow me to paint you a picture(this is a pun just wait for it.) Your an artist 😃 and Wooyoung is your husband and your muse. Almost everything you paint is either of him or reminds you of him. And your opening this big art exhibit and it's just this super fancy cocktail party with all the art snobs in the city and of course you bring him. As soon as yall walk in people immediately notice he's the guy in all the paintings and you're just like "yes isn't he stunning" and he's like "yes I am stunning" he's only half kidding. Whenever you go on and on to some art blogger about your muse he just sits there drinking it in with a smirk on his face, occasionally adding things like how you owe your success to his beautiful face. In that case, he's completely kidding cuz he knows damn well your talented enough to make anything beautiful with or without him.

Jongho:

ima say you married rich. You didn't have much growing up but Jongho has done nothing but spoil you. Despite the fact he came from a big business family, singing has always been his passion. When you begin to work in his father's company you rise through the ranks alarmingly quick due to your skill. It's some party for your father in laws retirement and everyone coming up to you betting your gonna be the next CEO. Here the thing though, Jongho left the company not long after you joined, so he could pursue singing and most people there haven't seen him since then and they keep giving him side-eyes, clearly thinking he threw his life away and he's just gonna be your "trophy husband" for the rest of his life. Not on your watch homie. You expected this so you and your supper supportive father-in-law set aside time for him to perform to the whole room and you're standing there all proud and satisfied as all your coworkers are dumbfounded at his amazing talent.
