*leans casually on wall* hey,

i will take ANY excuse to design an outfit, especially wedding outfits, idk why— I just think they're fun.

there were originally two tuxedos involved in this (on the hair timeline drawing), with Flash's white and Peter's blue, but as I was editing my notes I ended up moving some stuff around and shunted Flash's transition forward by about a year and a half because it made more sense to happen around the time they get married instead of nearly 2 years later...

So like any reasonable person, I thought to myself, "oh boy! time to spend four days on a wedding dress!" (the drawing didn't take four days, i just spent a lot of time looking stuff up)

closeups and thoughts under the cut:

in my head the top part of the dress is at least partially some kind of soft, flexible fabric, like a stretch satinet or whatever, or one of those really soft matte stretchy fabrics, but i honestly wasn't sure how exactly to handle that considering I'm not a tailor myself... like there should probably be a waist seam where the top meets the skirt, though probably hidden by the embroidery at least a little bit... though i guess it could also be that there is a layer of already-embroidered georgette over the top of a slip...

i did not hand draw this embroidery by the way. i almost tried. and then after .5 seconds i said, "oh this doesn't look good and i don't know what i'm doing." so then i used some brushes in clip studio paint and colored in colors i liked and added some beads that are basically not visible at 100% zoom (lmao)

they're there, i swear. i just think it would be cute if there were some very small beads adding a bit of sparkle...

Anyway, I just thought the flowers and colors would be nice. And I know you're probably thinking "huh, where'd they get sheer fabric that's only embroidered on part of it?" considering all those pre-made fabrics w/ the flowers all over... or "where did they get that dress custom-made? did one of their friends pay for it?" to which normally I would say "yeah lol they know at least a half a dozen rich people" but in this case... Well, this is a wedding that involves Peter. and Peter is nothing if not extra, impulsive, romantic, and a masochist—

Peter hand-sewed the entire dress, including the embroidery.

I figure, if he can embroider spider webs onto his suit then surely he can handle this ,as long as he has something to go off of. the dress itself isn't exactly the most complex, except maybe the skirt part falling in a specific way, so this is just another idk how many hours for him to spend futzing around with a needle and thread and insisting he can finish it in time. point in favor, because he does, but only because they have to postpone the wedding from March to May for other, unrelated reasons LMAO

also i just think it's romantic... and i like the idea of him making things with his hands all the time... he takes up woodworking a year or two before this iirc lol (the reasons for that are more morbid though... 😅)

anyway, i wanted the skirt to look nice in a wheelchair without getting in the way of things like the brake grips or the push-rims, so Flash can still move herself around (esp since she doesn't have handles on the back of her wheelchair lol) so that was another thing i was looking at pictures of. I really like georgette so I think it's probably layers of georgette, but drawing that is... hard.

but plain ivory obviously, not plaid. drapey with a soft hand, not too fluffy or stiff. probably a satin slip or something underneath.

elegant... backless... I mean if Peter is the one designing it (though presumably Flash has SOME input, I mean, she's the one wearing it) how could he possibly resist the opportunity? (i just think backless dresses look nice) (also it shows off her back muscles, probably)

as it says in the pic, i figured this should be designed so it's comfortable to sit in and doesn't get tugged around a bunch but I will be honest. i did not have a lot of luck trying to research that so I gave up. I'm sure there's a way to do it but I have no idea how to draw it so I'm handwaving it along with the mysterious missing waist seam LOL

but also it's a wedding dress and most wedding dresses are wildly inconvenient even if you have absolutely no disabilities whatsoever.

at least she doesn't have to go commando...

though i'm sure going to the bathroom is a real nightmare lol

the bouquet and the veil are both on the back of the wheelchair—this was already true even before I decided Flash was gonna use this as an opportunity to be way more girly than usual, but it's still true here too. Though I did end up changing the flowers cause I realized I didn't like what I had, so the final bouquet is a mix of peonies, flowering dogwood, and some kind of wildflower that would be in season in May. Plus the red ribbon to match Peter's accessories.

oh and there's Flash's makeup too. Simple, not too dramatic. I don't imagine her ever being a red lipstick and dramatic eyeshadow kind of person, whether at a wedding with colorful dress or not, but some lip gloss and a little bit of shimmery eyeshadow that you can barely see sounds nice... maybe copper mascara or whatever but nothing dark.

her hair is also not super complicated or fancy, and she has no jewelry or anything like that, aside from the engagement ring... just a nice low bun with some pretty wisps 💞 Courtesy of MJ almost definitely!!

And the yarmulke is for a multitude of reasons. "Technically" Flash is not "legally" a woman at this point, isn't even out to her family yet (lol. lmao.) and hasn't legally changed her name yet either (she's going to after they get married), and I don't even know what the rabbi would think (i mean, i'm sure they've discussed by the time the wedding happens lol) but women wear yarmulkes these days too (these days is... 2014... btw), and Flash will have converted like 4 years before the wedding already (for reasons unrelated to Peter) so it's important to her... so, ultimately, regardless of requirements or level of reformness, I think she just wants to wear one.

Peter gets one too.

lbr he probably wouldn't have even thought about it if Flash didn't bring it up. too busy thinking about what color of tiny beads to sew onto her dress XD

I DID loosely base some elements of Peter's tuxedo on the one from the iconic PeterMJ wedding cover—

—but mostly in ways I probably would have done anyway (dark blue tux... red cummerbund... etc.) (actually now that i think about it, the comic tux is probably meant to be black, huh) and I didn't want to make it actually the same so I gave him a pleated shirt and I didn't use a carnation for his boutonniere. Instead, dogwood (to match the bouquet obviously)—all the flowers I picked I'm PRETTY sure are in-season in May in NYC. as if they couldn't just go to any random garden and get some damn roses but I wanted to be more specific.

Peter doesn't make his tuxedo XD He also doesn't buy or rent it—Johnny Storm is the one in charge here because he insists, Peter. It's a special occasion!! He'd never let his best friend who he's totally not a little bit in love with wear a rental tuxedo to his own wedding! God Forbid. Peter eventually allows him to do so under the stipulation that Johnny keeps it tasteful and classy and "not too expensive."

Which to Johnny means "expensive silks and wools."

he's probably wearing suspenders. i didn't bother drawing that.

also these fucking shoes

NO idea if Peter keeps these. I only came up with them today. He was just gonna wear normal shoes before... but again, this is tasteful a la Johnny Storm. But Peter doesn't usually have occasions to dress fancy so having weird pseudo-spat dress boots is like. "What do I even do with these?" ("Wear them!!!")

I almost made the top part white (thus, pseudo-spats) but I think that kind of requires more of a white tie look... it looks nicer black. and hides his spidey-tighties (except he's not wearing his costume under this). Snaps, too! easy on, easy off!

(vaguely based on (these shoes) btw but not 100%)

wedding rings 💍

i already drew the rings a while ago (though i did slightly modify the coloring) so that's still the same. the engagement ring is essentially Flash's very first step into admitting who she wants to be... Peter doesn't even have a proposal planned, he just asks one day over breakfast lmfao but Flash has to think about it a lot so by the time Peter gets a yes (after a serious conversation with Flash about it) Flash is also like... can I have a ring??? and Peter is like OF COURSE (and actually he did have some money saved for this but he didn't know what to do...)

he'd probably make the ring himself if she asked—he doesn't though, they get it from a jeweler. it's... not cheap but it's less than $1000 at least? benefits of being very small and discreet.

Peter probably also offers to get himself one so they're equals here esp since power dynamics is part of the serious conversation and why Flash has to think about his proposal, but it's just not practical for Science Teacher Spider-Man to have an engagement ring and also they do not have money for that many rings.

in my notes Peter is wearing his uncle's wedding ring btw 🥹 i don't think they have Richard and Mary's rings so that's probably not an option. so, resizing Uncle Ben's ring instead.

Stampede and Maximum Spoilers!

Look this is kinda a negative (not totally but I wanna be polite and warn! ) look at Stampede and it's handling of the queer content in the source marital, if ur not in the mood for that, block me or scroll past plz 👌don't wanna be a downer for anyone so ye, thought I'd slap this uptop lol

Gonna be real, idk how I feel abt the last ep... Some of my fears are definitely coming true. The big one being that Wolfwood's role in the manga seems to be played by Meryl in Stampede.

The manga is so important to me because it lacks the typical anime/manga hetrosexual tropes.

They put these tropes back in when they made the 98 anime, and it feels like they're putting them back into Stampede.

Wolfwood is the one who saves Vash in the manga, he is Vash's reason to fight. I know Stampede is pretty much an AU of the manga, but they're hitting the major plot points in their own unique way. Not everything is in order, and it's different, which I don't mind.

What I do mind is the fact that they've cut out all the queer parts of Maximum.

From changing Elendira, the cannon trans woman (who wasn't perfect rep, but goddamn it a cannon transwoman who wasnt a joke at that time?! I fucking love her), to a lab grown loli (before you come at me, I know this is a prequel and that she'll age, but that's not the point, because it doesn't negate the fact that she is no longer trans. They could have updated her rep from the manga, but no.) To subbing in Meryl for Wolfwood in narrative moments he occupied in the manga, like saving Vash from Knives.

Narrative moments that would have been occupied by a female love interest in most manga were occupied by Wolfwood in TriMax, and intentional or not, TriMax is queer coded as shit. By switching him with Meryl in Stampede, that is gone.

This is what happens in the manga, in the Stampede Vash is saved by, and saves, Meryl instead. (Also black coat Vash is a reference to Vash from this fight in Maximum. It is the result of him fighting Legato and killing him to preserve Wolfwood's memory, ((he is taking on Wolfwood's color pallet in this fight, the layers in Maximum are insane)):

This isn't a ship post, not really, it's about stripping the queer aspects from TriMax, which are an integral part of TriMax's narrative, a major part what makes the work unique, especially for it's time, and straight-washing it in Stampede (which is taking a lot from Trimax... just not the queer stuff, hum). However, I'll entertain some ship talk.

People have been calling Vashwood the "yaoi flavor of the season" and in all honesty, to me, that's what Stampede Vashwood feels like. I KNOW it's the first season and this could change, but damn it, I feel like I'm allowed to be a little frustrated and worried about the direction they're going.

Vashwood in the manga is a queer relationship supported by COUNTLESS examples in the text, read as romantic or not,(personally, I think it should be read as romantic based on manga framing ((Wolfwood playing the role narratively reserved for the female love interest in most manga)) and textually (("I wanted to spend my tomorrows with him," just one of many examples of Vash's feeling about Wolfwood)) it is undeniable that they are integral to each other in a bone deep way. To the point where the only person as, or more, important as Wolfwood to Vash is Rem, his mother and guiding light.

This is absent in Stampede.

I'm trying not to be uncharitable, but I have a sinking suspicion that Meryl is going to be the one to find Vash after the timeskip, a role given to Wolfwood in TriMax. I wanna be proven wrong tho!

I DO like how Meryl and Wolfwood are getting more interactions in Stampede! They didn't get many in the manga and I love their dynamic. Honestly him grabbing her like a sack of potatoes and booking it outta there was the best part for me lol, I'm glad Milly is coming back too! Vash getting his spikes back also was rad af!!

I feel like I should also say, this isn't a ship hate post or anything. This isn't a Meryl hate post either, I don't kin characters myself but she's as close as they come for me, so I love the little lady. Plus, I've really been enjoying her Stampede design and character development, it's one of the best parts of the show imo!!

It's just the fact that the queer content from the original didn't make it in, while so many other things from TriMax did, that rubs me the wrong way.

I think I'm mostly just frustrated, I'm enjoying Stampede for what it is, but I'm a queer woman, and I can't help but feel cheated out of the faithful Maximum adaptation I've always dreamed of. How come every other manga gets a one for one adaptation, but Maximum, with all it's queer text, doesn't?! I'm frustrated. They always try to make Trigun more appealing, mass marketable, but damnit that's not why I love it. Idk, I just feel sad. With this new adaptation, idk if I'll ever see a faithful Maximum adaptation, which is a depressing thought for me.

Anyway, this became a vent post, sorry. I'm a longtime TriMax shill and I was really (and to be fair, still am to a degree) enjoying Stampede up until these last few eps. In some ways it feels like I'm watching watered down, more marketable Maximum and that just frustrates me.

I'm still holding out hope for season 2 though, I can't help it, even with the things I'm not personally into in Stampedes it's still Trigun, and if I'm not going to bat for Trigun, am I even me?

If you don't mind, could you give us a tutorial or brief explanation on how you render hair? /nf

YES!! unfortunately i got. very tired after making this so this is only one hair type :( was gonna go into all the different types of hair textures but. i will just have to do that later. also keep in mind i drew this in like. 7 minutes its just a simple guide to get out the basic steps

^i didn't put music in this so. listen to whatever u want while ur watching this (its 6 minutes 40 seconds). also its slightly sped up this isn't real speed

elaboration of each step under read more:

step 0: look at other hair tutorials/pictures of real hair to figure out how light reflects off of them. then completely disregard that and just make things up (this is the best artistic process trust me i do it every day)

step 1: just get out that basic shape. it doesnt have to be anything fancy,

step 2: just fill it in and adjust the shape as needed

step 3: figure out how the hair moves and flows, which parts go out more (highlights), which parts are closer to the head (shadows/base), etc. i highly recommend just looking at pictures of hair online, or taking pictures of your own hair. for coily/curly hair, you just kind of have to do this for each curl/coil. one thing to keep in mind the highlight is in the middle of the curl/coil and the shadows are on the edges (usually). i'll elaborate more on that once i have an actual video for it

step 4: just make it so the edges of the highlights transition a bit more smoothly into the base color. it just helps for later steps tbh. try not to over do it, don't want to completely get rid of the highlight, just soften it

step 5: add more highlights with thinner brush. this should be where the light would bounce off the hair the MOST. i think i forgot to say in the video uhhh add in some base value too. maybe a few shadows. mostly this step is for highlights tho.

step 6: idk what else to put here sorry. ngl just get silly with it

step 7: it is very important to do one stroke per area in this one. do not lift your pen off the screen/tablet/whatever until the little area youre working on is one smooth transparent shade, then move on to the next. idk if i'm explaining this right hopefully this makes sense.

step 8: complete opposite as step seven. make as many strokes as you feel it needs. not TOO many, just enough to get some texture and then some yk? i recommend making a copy of the layer youre working on before doing this so that if you mess something up you can always go back to square one.

also a lot of these steps apply to pretty much any hair type just. in a completely different shape with completely different rules. which is to say its exactly like this but it actually isn't like this at all. which is why i plan on making other videos some day (hopefully) also look up "hair texture chart" it will help you find the words you need to look up good refs

remember: always get silly with it. the only rule to to make things up and change your mind 400 times. bring a 'fuck it, we ball' mentality to your art program that the haters (your brain) really won't like. practice makes perfect and all that, do NOT expect to get something good first try, sometimes i still struggle with drawing hair in a way that i like and just scrap the whole thing. also i'm not kidding about those real hair reference pictures it helps so so much

hope this helped at least a little bit bc i am not good at explaining things 👍

okay first of all, douma's gonna their step father, he's the one who save them? then this life he gonna save them by being their parent (let's pretend they're an orphan🤚)

gyutaro would have friends, ofc people mag considering him as ugly due to where they live and many things but in present time he definitely be one of the normal people, at least people gonna treated him as more human being

idk if his work as dept collector is a good or bad thing, but it's legal right? at first he'll live normally like a student, don't have to work for anything, but when he's in college he may find a legal part time job, since he want his history to be clean

I don't think he gonna do drug, he may interest in it at first bc of curiosity but he do smoke ig

ume is pretty and in kimetsu academy many boys send her their confessions, but what about girls

idk but she's not a type of pretty girl who like to hang out with boys, she like to hang out with girls, she's a mean girl (*cough* bc gyu and douma who like to spoiled her *cough*)😭 and gyu won't let a man be near his lovely sis too

many people have crush on ume but don't have confidence to give it to her by themselves so they gave it to gyu instead (how)

this happened too many times BUT there's also have someone who have crush on gyu and give him the love confession too (and that person it's me) but he misunderstood for ume and give it to her (she give it back to him later but gyu take it's as a prank)

gyu would work as delivery guy bc he know how to ride a bike🧍‍♀️ and when he send their parcel/food he don't have to take off his helmet so they can't see his face… 😔

I forgot this one, so douma adopted him and ume and douma remarried with kotoha and inosuke live with them too (this is my hc don't take it too serious)

sometimes tanjiro and zenitsu will come to play in their house, zen really likes ume but he scared of her brother and how mean she is

gyu don't like tanjiro, he always mean to him, but tanjiro never mad at him until gyu started to talk sh!t about nezuko to provoke tan😭🤚

gyu like emo punk/rock, ume and douma like j-pop and girl group, I also hc daki as sm gg stan (which I'll do hc about demons music taste later)

from what I mentioned above, why douma and ume like girl group, douma actually enjoy various genre, I can see him enjoying britney spears and lady gaga songs, or j-pop like gardinelia

for ume, it's kinda weird reasons, she likes pretty girls, gives off sm stan vibe and sapphic vibe… I can even named her bias in each group and yk, I'm sorry to assume but I saw many sone girls come out as sapphic and this really fits ume

a lot of scenarios like to write for ume to be jealous of reader if reader pretty than her, if in original story then ume would eat them but in modern world I don't think she gonna hate them because

1.ume very confident, she knows she's charming and don't have to worry about anything, people still gonna come back to her

2.ume didn't eat them bc she's jealous of pretty people and wanna get rid of them, if that's so, she would do it at first place

3.it's confirmed she hate ugly people, and don't even wanna eat to power up

ume wanna friends with pretty girls and she's kind of protective friend💪 she knows how to fight in verbally and physically (or just call gyu, magic word : onii-chan!!!)

she may have many friends, and her close friend group, but if any of them talk bad about her brother then boom, goodbye you're not my friend now and she don't even hesitate to do so

in original story, ume original hair color is white, gyu is black, but in modern world they both would have black hair but dyed it layer, ume dye it white and gyu dye it green and wears beret hat heheh❤️

this one is canon!! gyu want his sister to have better life, and when they arguing he said about his better life without her, I see it as gyu overprotective to his sister but NOT OBSESSIVE and don't make it to be in any gross or creepy way!

if he has a chance he definitely have a lover and live his life, not following his sister everywhere, but if ume have a lover then he gonna approve them first, she's innocent and nice girl, this is why he scared

hi! do you have tips and advice for making gifs? i love your gifs so much!

awww thank you so much, that really means a lot to me as I'm still rusty and a bit insecure because I've learned how to make gifs like 10 years ago? things didn't changed that much in terms of method and yet it's still scary, but at the end people like you make it worth!! 🥺🥺🥺

a little disclaimer: I'm colorblind, I can see colors okay! but I just see them a little bit different than most people so sometimes my edits may seem a little weird and that's the reason

Okay It will definitely be a long answer so I'll put under the cut ☺️

My advices would be:

- Just go for whatever scene you like the most, and try to focus on things you enjoy. I like to gif what I love, things I find beautiful as it gives me so much joy to look at the final result 😌

- Fortunately tumblr is full of people willing to share their knowledge and skills and there is lots and lots of blogs with the main theme being tutorials or even inspo and sources, so I always try to follow them to keep up with whatever is trending and just to learn new tricks and tips, some of my faves are @completeresources @gifmakerresource @allresources and @chaoticresources

- Be patient with yourself, if you are trying a tutorial and it is giving you a hard fight you can always stop and try again another time. It happened to me more than once that a tutorial or a particular idea I was trying gave me such a bad fight that I ended up so frustrated, exhausted, angry and feeling shitty but then I would pick another time to give it try and the thing worked hahahaha, so don't forget to respect your time and wellbeing

In terms of tips and tricks:

- Always use high quality videos, like the best quality available as it really makes a difference in terms of the final result

- Oh always resize your gifs!!! I use the crop tool and then I adjust the image size to keep it high quality, I think this is BY FAR the best tutorial as it explains quite well if you are new to editing

- So far I have tried many many different methods over the years, my fav is to cut the scenes I want to edit and for this use any video editing software really and after choosing a couple of scenes I import all of them to Photoshop (my version is the 2022 edition) and then I use the video timeline method (i don't really remember where I learned it but I found this really good tutorial that might be helpful)

- I slow down the gifs I make (idk how to explain it in english I'm sorry) but I set the speed for something in between 50% to 70%, depending on the scene

- In terms of colouring I don't really have a specific preset or fav PSD, I adjust them one by one just trying to focus on what the scene gives and then I work my way around it depending on what I'm trying to achieve or how do I want my gifset to look like (a good example was the Ron one on my last gifset i didn't wanted to look so yellow as it would be too different from the other gifs, it was a nightmare) BUT I guess I tend to use lots and lots of adjustment layers like I start with brightness/contrast, curves, and levels and then I proceed to selective colors, hue, vibration and saturation, sometimes I even use gradients and/or solid color layers with different blending options like soft light, overlay, opacity and fill settings to correct colors (I always use the color wheel principles of opposites and/or complementaries)

- Use smart sharpening!!! Peopel are so brilliant that they gave us actions, it is literally just a click away from all the trouble to do it manually, and it speeds up my process. Personally I have been using this amazing one I found quite recently, and it's really doing wonders to my edits

ATTENTION ALL NON KPOP LISTENERS THAT HAVE A KPOP STAN IN YOUR LIFE!!!!! (This is a ramble)

Do you have a friend, partner, sibling, etc. that loves kpop? Is their birthday soon? Do you want to give them a bouquet, but don't know what flower to give them? I HAVE THE PERFECT THING FOR YOU! A BIAS BOUQUET!!!

Okay so along with my sister's birthday being.. literally rn (it's 1 am for me at the time of posting this), it's also right before valentines day! She's my best friend, and my sister, and she deserves a bouquet. She is obsessed with kpop. Like, can hear the first few seconds of a song and name the group, song, album, and who is singing at each moment(she scares me). She has like, a million favorite groups, so I had made a list and broooo.. I didn't even use half of the list, and the list was at least 20 or more members.. AND IT WASNT EVEN ALL OF THEM

So you can tell what my motive for this was, yeah? It's actually hella easy! I didn't take progress shots, because I got school later and didn't have the time to stop and take pictures, but here's what you need!

An editing or art app

Paper/Cardstock

lamination sheets

Wooden skewers

A foam cone

Tape

Tissue paper

Pipe cleaners (optional)

Sticky notes (optional)

Soo to start I went to pinterest and downloaded a few photos of my sister's favorite idols. You don't have to do all of them, you can do one group or just a bunch of photos of their favorite person! Whatever you want. I used the app IBISPAINTX to put them all together in different sizes, so it was easier to print and cut out and they can vary in sizes. Use whatever app or website you think works!

I basically just put them in collages like this.

I emailed them to myself and then printed them out on cardstock paper, just so they were stiffer and would last longer, but if you don't want to/don't have that, regular printer paper will work!

Jm using a digital version, just to show it(also in courtesy of the girl bc its my sister's favorite and I forgot to print her out 😭) but after they are printed, cut your idols out, just the perimeter around it!

Then, this is also optional, but I used lamination sheets over the pictures! Try and fit as many of your idols on the sheets just to save, but be careful, because you want to make sure when you cut them out, they have a small gap on the lamination, just so the lamination doesn't peel off. The lamination will just make the pictures last longer, so your person can keep them after! *the gray represents the lamination!*

Now, I bought a foam cone fromWalmart, but yoh can probably grt it at micheals or any craft store! Mine was a little small, I don't have exact dimensions cause I just guessed, but I think eying it and guessing too will do just fine! I also got some skewers, which can be found anywhere, I just found them in a drawer lol. Next thing is tape!

Youre going to take your idols and your skewers, just tape the back onto the skewer before you stick it into the foam. Now, this part is optional too, but I used some purple pipe cleaners to wrap around the skewers! I just measured the part that was stuck into the foam, then I taped the idol on after I pulled it out,and then I wrapped the pipe cleaners above the line and to the bottom of the picture, and stuck it back in

Another optional thing is to make paper hearts! I found a tutorial on YouTube to make inflatable ones! I used the skewers to poke through the top and then layer purple and pink ones. I made seven so it could start on one color and end in the same color! I made three of these pattern heart things, but you can make as many as you want! (This works well if it's for a romantic partner or for valentines day!)

Finally I just used purple and pink tissue paper to hide the cone, and taped it together to keep it in place! Here's the final product in horrible lighting

only for my story sims, in the spirit of keeping things semi-consistent between chapters, because i swear sim stede gains weight faster than any sim i've ever played, and sim ed often ends up TOO BUFF from all of his energized swimming 😂 other than that, i do not, i just let them do their own thing. i dont really use too many custom body shapes for ts2, but definitely coming back to it after playing with the diversity in ts4 has been a bit jarring, but also custom body shapes are a lot of work so. idk what the solution is!

i think mostly i've gotten better at taking and editing pics? gos was pretty much my introduction to sims cc (with the exception of some sailor moon skins/heads i had for ts1 that my dad had to help me install 😂) so that had a HUGE influence on my style that i never really strayed from. i think i toned it down a bit in ts4, but at my core, i am still very neon/grunge oriented

Happy Birthday Dork

Yep! Today's my birthday! This gal right here is turning 16! (Now time to change my age in all my bios💀💀)

And i decided to draw these two gals. Now of yall weren't following me back in 2020 on insta, then yeah, you have no context to who these two are

The blond one is well, Cake, my oc/persona, and the ginger one is Brooke, an oc thag belongs to @/ molzysketch on Instagram. I wont go into full detail, but we basically ship these two. We made them during the fall of danplan, Brooke was supposed to be Ann for molzy's pirate au. A group chat was made to make theories of what would happen on the next part of the au, but the next day the fall happened. After the fall we revamped them as ocs tho, and everyone in the group made their own ocs and we role played with them

This all are kinda redesigns of them really. Brooke was redesigned by her own creator molzy of course, but i worked on the colors by the end 😌

On another note tho! To make this drawing an even better birthday gift to myself, in the middle of doing this i realized how similar it was to an old drawing of these 2

This one was from July 2020, it was the last time i did a proper drawing of them in their pirate self

But honestly, looking back the old drawing i did of them, god am i happy with my progress. You can see they actually grew up too, the old one looks more soft, childish and now they seem to have grown up! It's more mature, has more personality to it, to the characters!

I'll keep it short, but basically, I'm happy with how my art and the characters grew. They actually feel like pirates, and Cake feels like how i wanted them to feel, and Brooke now actually seems like Brooke and not a revamp of Ann. Which props to Molly for that!

Also, i tried out a new shading technique here, which i love! But hate it just as much, bc of how many layers i had to use, and how slow it gets when you leave or come back to the drawing 💀

Also really time consuming, but it's worth it bc it looks epic. And honestly it's way more fun, with how free i am with it and messy i can get with it

And yeah, the similarities between this snd the 2020 one, it was PURE coincidence. I started to work on this mostly testing out a technique i saw on a reels and it turned out great, the bodies, didn't know who to use it with. After a while decided to use Brooke and Cake, was gonna draw Brooke holding cake, but the body better fit Cake so i did them instead. And only when i was sketching Cake out did i realise it

I miss these gals, and i wish to work with them more. Hell i actually am re working on Cake's story now. I plan on maybe changing their name to Cory, tho I'm yet to fully decide

Tho idk how the og crew's story is now, but honestly, it's alr i can still have fun with it XP

SO MANY IDEAS

This is very long so buckle up. (Circular brackets for examples) [square brackets for my own thoughts]

Picrew checklist:

aaaa!!! okay!! this is a lot (/pos) but im gonna go through each one, so be warned yall this is a long post. (i added the taglist here because there's a lot of useful info and so that yall don't repeat suggestions too often lol. also, there is a general announcement about the picrew in bold. you can skip to that if you want.)

skin colors: done, i already have eight human and eight rainbow skin tones lol

vitiligo options: i'm adding skin markings after the basic features, so it will come later (not sure if i'll add them before or after the wip releases tho, we'll see) but different colors is a great idea!

other skin options: see above. i like the tabs idea, will definitely do that

different ears: i do have different pointy and finned ears, but i was planning on making animal ears seperate. now that you say it tho, it might make more sense to put them with the rest of the ears. will add that to my non-basic list though because i'll probaby put them in a seperate tab

different noses: i'll actually be drawing those next! my normal art style basically only draws the shadow under the nose, but i do want to have diversity, so i'll have to do some research on that. animal noses are happening too for sure :)

different mouths: god. im. let's just say i have done that. (/lh) there's thirteen different expressions with six tooth styles and two tongue styles each. that's not even including the creepy ones, so don't worry, i've got that covered.

eye types: i assume you mean expressions/shapes? i'm planning on adding those

seperate tab for each eye: good idea, somehow i didn't even think about that

eye colors/sclera colors: yup, i've already got a suggestion for sclera colors, and i'm definitely adding eye colors

iris options: i assume this is the shape of the pupil- i'll definitely have that, but i need to figure out how to make sure they all fit in the different eye shapes lol (if anyone knows please help lol)

eyebrow options: done! except the slit, i think, but i will add that later

multiple tabs for hair/seperate color choices/shaved and bald options: yup, already planning on those!

multiple layers of clothing: also planning to do this already!

head/hair accessories: this also would be a non-basic thing, but i will add them

hand gesture options: unfortunately, i've decided won't be adding hands to this picrew anytime soon. i've talked to someone else about this too, and basically it's a whole new element with too much work. maybe, in the distant future, after i've already added the non-basic options, i'll add them, but i don't see myself doing that before then. i know it's a big part of the captain's image, with the gloves and warp crystal, and it would definitely be super cool, but it's simply too time-consuming and difficult. sorry, but i'll add plenty of other cool features to make up for it!

different genders: the picrew cuts off just below the armpits, so you can't really tell if the chest is there or not.

different body types: it's definitely doable, but it's gonna be in the non-basic list unfortunately. the body itself should be fairly easy, but head shapes i might struggle with- don't get me wrong, i'm not making excuses, my face shape doesn't match the current option either lol.

pride pins: ooh good idea, i hadn't thought of that somehow. again, will be non-basic though.

piercings and jewelry: already planning to do them! i will have to shove most of that FAR into the non-basic list though because i could spend DAYS making up different piercings and jewelry.

background options: i forgot about those somehow, lol. i'll definitely have them, but might start with just solid colors for the basic features.

watermark: i keep forgetting to make that!!!! i always remember it when im in the middle of doing something else and then forget by the time i finish. i did make a cool signature years ago, but i'd have to go find it bc i made it before i used krita. i'll add the different locations though, once i finally add it lol

helmets: yep, definitely adding those! i've already had a suggestion for the cracked helmet, too, so i'll do that- maybe have an option that's partially transparent so you can make a face inside it? idk, but that's definitely on the list

hats: also have gotten a suggestion for that! i'll definitely add the beret and the fedora, and maybe some other options if i have time.

hands: see above, sorry :/

crystal infection thingy: that! is! so! cool!!! i'll definitely put that on the list with the skin markings

Favorite Color?

I'm a sucker for jewel tones, of any kind. My hair is currently mermaid adjacent, with some magenta-pink, teal, teal-blue, blue-purple all kinda up in there. If you're interested? Unicorn was the brand I used. Semi-permanent, layers well. Very pigmented, so you can get intense color by just painting it on your hair, OR blend it in w basic bitch conditioner for a pastel variant.

Favorite Food?

It's hard to choose any one. I've had a lot of realllllly great food in my life, but? A forever fave is definitely gado gado. It's Balinese. Steamed vegetables, tempeh, rice, fried FRESH tofu, served with a flavorful, spicy peanut sauce.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory?

It...depends? Sweet & Spicy? Korean bbq wings. Yes, please. That. Just Spicy? Spicy Miso Ramen, or Thai Curry. The only one that I can't really do is Savory. I'm extremely sensitive to salt.

Last Thing I Googled?

I was double checking the og Buffy series air dates, bc I wanted to check my memory before declaring that yeah, Peter Hale totally would have been the right age demo to be super into it.

Currently Reading?

Endless fic. Nerve pain flare ups in my hands make holding my books unpleasant, sadly. So, I tend to consume fic via primarily podfic. I have too many reccs for this ask, so I'll save that for if anyone asks.

I do read text versions too, but holding my phone can sometimes be a lot when my hands are hurty, so. Before my hands got really bad, though, I was reading my hefty anniversary edition of "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman.

For my body to slow its roll on the inflammation train. Ig this is what makes Hashimoto's vs a non autoimmune thyroid disorder ""fun."" When a flare up kicks off, everything goes hog wild. All at once. Like a symphony orchestra of discomfort.

Dream Trip?

Reykjavik, please and thank you. Or the Laplands in Finland. I've been to Bali a few times, and I love it. Costa Rica was beautiful, too. But, like? I just want to be somewhere with polar nights, bc I am weird like that, ig.

Oh yeah, I lassoed a friend inti watching the first episode of RoP last night. Man.

Why did the Harfoots look like a bunch of homeless drug addicts??? I know they live in the woods but they should at least know how to groom themselves and keep clean. Some muck and dirt is normal when you live outdoors, but it was like those people hadn't ever bathed in their life! It was so odd, it made me instantly dislike the Harfoots because they all felt grimy and gross.

The humans were the best part. If the bit with the humans was in its own show that wasn't trying to gaslight me about Tolkien lore, then I wouldn't mind it. However, it still wasn't great or anything, just sort of decent. The racism is clumsy and badly-written, per usual of modern shows. However, I can understand what they were actually going for.

The elves part was the bit I hated the most. That woman is not Galadriel. She's just some other random person who happens to be named Galadriel, or something. The short hair on the male elves was extremely distracting. The only man who had long hair was the king, which made him stand out. It was odd seeing the marks of age on so many of them, too. It didn't feel like any of them were really elves. Most of them dressed very simply, in one color with very little layering, which is such a wasted opportunity for adding color and unique designs.

Making Galadriel swim back through an entire sea is fucking bullshit. Some people have said they saw a raft? Idk but whether you're paddling, sailing, or swimming, doing it alone and across an entire fucking sea is going to take a while. Stupid fucking show.

I don't intend to watch another episode. None of the characters are unique or interesting, the dialogue is incredibly flat. Given 20 minutes and a notepad, I could probably have written better dialogue for every single scene. There's no subtlety, it's only stating how you feel and making your intentions plain as day. The only subtlety is when the elf and the human have to keep their crush a secret, but even then they're still eye-fucking whenever they look at each other. Absolute waste of money and a waste of a good fantasy show that didn't have anything to do with Lotr.

I know most people see the blondes and immediately think of the oversaturation and some of the poorly made dolls with blonde hair. I want to take a deep dive into each and give my options, thoughts, and things that couldn't been different. Also this is just my opinion, you don't have to agree! This is all light hearted also, let's get started!

Historicals:

Elizabeth- I know she had some controversy since her book didn't match the doll. Plus the rewrite that followed. I think, especially since her hair is wavy, she'd have been identical to Samantha. Aside from her pin curls. I honestly think the rework was understandable. Plus the doll to me reads similar to her character and personality in the books. While a doll like Samantha doesn't register quite the same. This one I can see both sides though. Other colors, like black could've worked too. I am a bit biased as I think Elizabeth is one of the prettiest AG dolls. However Black hair also would've been gorgeous.

Caroline- imagine she had black hair and the same striking green eyes! I don't think she's a bad doll by any stretch, but there seems to be no reason for her to be blonde. Any color of hair would've suited her. Plus a darker color hair and the same bright clothes and eyes would've been so striking and really drive home the vibes of the sea that she is supposed to embody. I honestly think I might send my Caroline to someone in the community to get her rewigged with a black colored wig instead!

Kirsten- I think a different shade of blonde and more historically accurate hairstyle wouldve suited her wonderfully! I don't have many opinions but I think her as a blonde isn't bad!

Nellie- i think her hair needs to be more strawberry blonde and less blonde blonde but otherwise the look suits her and its quite unique! I honestly wouldn't change her at all.

Kit-while Kits whole look is very iconic I don't think Kit necessarily needs blonde hair, I think a light brown would've also suited them! I think Kits look is pretty awesome, and super noticeable. But I don't think brown hair would dampen that at all. Brown hair, might have actually looked a bit nicer!

Maryellen- I have a few issues with her hair. I think its cute as is. But they should've totally made her a full red head with a more period accurate style! (While doing googling I noticed that a pony tail with bangs was a accurate style but idk it just feels the laziest of the options? If that makes sense) I noticed that most of the styles of the time are quite intricate and may be hard to replicate on a doll meant for kids. I found one that was popular among teens that I think Maryellen could've totaled rocked

Julie- Why did she just have long straight hair? Yes it was a style but it was usually accompanied by layered or feathered look or bangs. A more shag type with long bangs would've looked awesome! Plus brown hair and brown eyes are much needed.

Courtney- I have no option because I don't plan on getting her ever, however if you like her thats great! When I look at her she's not 80s as the history she's 80s as the modern marketing pull. Her looks look like costumes or the modern reruns of the 80s looks. Especially her hair. I don't mean to be saltly on main but E

GOTY:

Kailey- ah! I think this blonde works. I can't remember what time this was; but I know that for a long time when I was a kid living a lifestyle close to the beach, especially in cali, was linked to blonde hair! It makes sense to me why she has blonde hair

Mia St. Claire- I'm unsure what the change should be but she definitely needs a new color. I think with her meet outfit a more alternative style would've been sweet! Maybe raccoon dye and sideswept bangs. I'm not sure her personality or style but the shoes really give me 2000s alternative vibes.

Gwen- She should've had a unique shade of brown! I think it would look best still a light color. A new brown would help her stand out since Sonali and Chrissa are so unique themselves and Gwen is easily confused with #12

Lanie- absolutely no changes, none. At this time being blonde was heavily tied to feminine things, being a "mean girl" or "popular girl" and things like makeup, clothes, traditionally "girly" things. Lanie subverts that perfectly. She loves nature and is a self proclaimed scientist. It's perfect!

McKenna- while I love McKenna a different hair color would've looked just as good! I don't have specific ideas, I think her hair is nice but also other colors would suit her too.

Isabelle- Another blonde that needs no changes. While yes at the time the blonde was starting to get redundant. I think the blonde hair is perfect for her, and her unique part and wig, plus the added colors. Make it definitely a good look.

Lea- Lea,, confuses me in so many ways. Shes a gorgeous doll sure. But why isn't she fully a doc, why is she blonde, etc. I hate to say that I'd want to change her as she is another stunning doll but a dark brown or black would've been super nice too!

Kira- I wish they took the Kira doll and made her a truly me, so we could get more unique truly mes and get another poc GOTY 😩 /lh

Tenney- she should've been a brunette period, it would've been so pretty! Her freckles and eyes with big brown hair, ah *chefs kiss*

I actually *think* I saw something about a class or studying that made me think you're in university. Obvs people can go to university at older ages but maybe it was a bit of the shouting about eating glass lol. Fun fact: I found out recently that my grandparents love the first shrek movie. Lol my mom hates it and I didn't see it until I was in university probably. I'm flabbergasted that my grandma likes it.

I am currently single. I do have ba lot of friends but I find it difficult to make *close* friends.

Eyes are blue! And I'd also consider myself an extroverted introvert.

You're better at this than you think lol I do garden, I love reading, I draw/paint/sew/crochet and I love to research things!

My favorite season is autumn, though :) I love the colors and the crisp air that is different than the crisp air of spring. Spring is probably my second favorite.

Oh, yeah!! I forget how much I actually talk sometimes lol. And the glass diet is one of my key traits lol. Shrek is a masterpiece, so your grandparents have good taste. No counting for you mom, though. Sorry :/ (KIDDING. But seriously, Shrek is a great film.) As a similar fun fact: My grandfather pretty much hates music made after ‘68 unless it’s church hymnals. Except for the Top Gun soundtrack. He loves Berlin’s Take My Breath Away. I do not blame him. It’s my favorite song on the track too. But my surprise when I started obsessing with the soundtrack and he started singing along cannot be measured.

!!! Oh interesting!!! I at the age of 14 got told I looked like a kid’s 36yo teacher because I “looked like her height” so that was fun. On one hand, being thought of as mature when I was younger was nice, but as soon as I hit like 17 I was mostly just tired of dudes hitting on me at work until I subtly started dropping the fact that I was underage. Dudes backed off quickly. Which sort of restored my faith in humanity.

Oh, Slytherins could totally be either or, I feel. I just think that Scorpio matches the traits of the Slytherins we actually got to see the most. And if you’ve read my bio, I’m a Hufflepuff!! So that’s fun!! Further creating the mental image of you in my head.

I was the same way until I met my best friend at university. Sort of feel like I’ve known her my whole life. I could get into my tragic backstory of being the outcast of my friend circle, how I was thee enemy of one of my “friend’s” teenage drama movie life, and etc etc. But the long and short of it is I always had trouble making deep connections. Don’t get me wrong, I love making friends and getting to know people!! I have a lot of friends now and I love them all!! Recently I’ve been going through things and trying to keep up with everyone is, unfortunately, exhausting or impossible. Which is awful but something I’m trying to work through and for the most part, my friends are very understanding and I love and bless them for it. But my best friend, it never feels exhausting talking to her. We don’t talk all the time but we talk once a day. And IDK I just literally can’t remember a time without her almost—I do, obviously—but remembering that time without her is like: how did I live without her? She’s amazing and supportive and if I’ve gotten anything out of my university experience, it’s her.

DAMN. I’m sorta proud of myself?? Does it feel like cheating if I said painting and crotcheting was what first came to mind for me when answering but I only say it after you mentioned them lol. Researching is fun so I do not blame you for that hobby lol.

The end of a fairly decent run. Drat. I’ll be honest, I love autumn conceptually, but over here we don’t have any season other than hot and one week of freezing weather which is why I prefer Winter. I can wrap up if I’m cold; can’t strip off too many layers if I’m hot. The breezes we get in autumn are worth it, though, and I love autumn aesthetically. So I can respect that.

Our game was hectic tonight since we had unexpected guest stars (one of our players came directly from the beach with his family so his wife and kids jumped in on our game for this session), but overall fun. I’m just dead tired so I’m turning in early so hopefully, I’m rested enough tomorrow to finish some homework that’s due. (Nothing too bad but I might’ve accidentally pushed it a wee bit. I’m confident in getting it done tho so no big.)

I hope the chores bring you harmony and relaxation, and I hope the sweater is fun!!! Is it a gift or a personal project? My mother used to crotchet a lot. I couldn’t pick up a lick of it, but I liked seeing everything.
