Day 1382: April 27, 2018 Ocean Breeze Waterpark My latest work trip to Virginia Beach involved passing by this water park mascot, whose name is apparently "Hugh Mongous". After I turned into the water park, I had to pass by a mini-golf course and go-kart race course before I could figure out how to get out again. General Booth Blvd, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Virginia Beach, Virginia - the 45’ tall “Hugh Mongous” was born in 1977 & is the the “Ocean Breeze Water Park” mascot ... in 1989 “Hugh” suffered 3rd degree burns from a fire ... after some plastic (hee hee) surgery, “Hugh” returned to making kids (and me) smile #RunAwayBill #DUSA2020 #rabSelfies #VirginiaBeach #rabVirginiaBeach #rabVirginia #rabSelfies #rabWheelieNelson #HughMongous #obBIGmonkey #OceanBreeze #rabLifeInQuarantine 04.09.20 (at Ocean Breeze Waterpark) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zdTWoFjeT/?igshid=16qm0ffm9hpzi

"Triggered"
I’d like to start out by saying, people can be really, really dense. I know that’s kind of a given around these parts, but on this topic, it applies even more. TL;DR: https://imgur.com/gallery/NejKY
Now the word triggered started out as kind of a way to tease people with serious mental conditions like PTSD and the like. It wasn’t a good thing at all and was just plain horrible. Since then, it’s been brought into people’s mainstream vocabulary and has lost much of its original meaning. On behalf of the people that don’t know it’s origins, I’m sorry. But I’m not sorry for the people that can’t get it through there thick fucking skulls that most of the people that use the word don’t know it’s original meaning and usage.
Nowadays, it’s just a way of teasing someone who’s mad. (A good alternative could be “tilited” but I’ve only seen this used in a few niche gaming communities and integrating it as a viable alternative into mainstream society would be hard.) Very few people who use it now know of it’s original meaning and, in my honest opinion, they probably wouldn’t care if they did. I know I don’t. And I only don’t care because it doesn’t mean the same thing as it used to. It’s similar to the word gay. 100 years ago, you could say “Look at that gay group of children” and you would be saying the children are happy. Now, if you said that, you’d be assuming their sexuality and Tumblr would dox you can get you fired/arrested/deported. It just doesn’t mean the same thing as it used to. Not saying it can’t be used in its old form - it can - it’s just that nobody knows of its old form and it would be futile to try. Why would you try to bring back a way to tease people?
To all the people with PTSD and similar conditions, I’m sorry if this word brings back memories of experiences with shitty people, but this is the real world and nobody really cares about your feelings. This isn’t the internet where you can just block someone or leave a group. Shit people will be near you and no amount of whining will change that. Unless, of course, you be a child that has to get their way and threaten legal action and end up going to Supreme Court because someone said your hair looked nice and you tried to get them arrested on sexual harrassment charges.
There are many ways people have gotten triggered, in the strongest sense of the word. I’m talking Hugh Mongous level of triggered. These are the times where a person will see something and get so overly mad that they stop at nothing to get their closure, no matter how insignificant their problem was.
One of these ways was the one I just mentioned above - someone receives a compliment, but they don’t like that so they do everything they can to ruin that person’s life.
Another way is what I like to call the Doorman Situation. It is as follows: You are a trans person. Say, male to female. You walk into a hotel that you’re staying in for [insert reason here] and the doorman says to you, in his most polite manner, “Good morning sir. ” But you, you don’t like that. See, you identify as a female, but you have not started any kind of transition, and therefore, still physically look like a male. (Now, this whole thing breaks down if you happen to be dressing as the opposite gender on their particular day, as most people in this situation would be. Pretty much, if you see someone that looks like a dude, but they’ve shaved their legs and are wearing a skirt and heels, you can assume they don’t want to be a dude much longer.) This doorman, unaware of your complex situation, is now getting the full rundown of exactly what you are and what to do when he encounters you. And from what I’ve seen of people in this situation, you become violent and the doorman calls security. You, in turn make this into a race issue, or he was transphobic, or something like that. Tumblr, of course, agrees with you and helps in ruining his life. The rest of the internet is in an uproar about this, but what can they do? He was fired due to you and 100,000+ people threatening legal action against the hotel he worked at and they, like any company with at least three brain cells, let him go so they wouldn’t be millions of dollars in debt. It goes on national news, maybe a GoFundMe is set up for the guy (probably), but nothing ever happens, and the all mighty SJWs win again.
Since I wrote the first half of this, I’ve looked through some of the posts that come up when I search tumblr for he word triggered. And many of them are complaining about people using the word and it brings back memories of whatever past traumatic experience. Society changes. Definitions change. People change. Just like gay went from happy to homosexual, triggered went from a horrible word to tease traumatized people to just a word to tease or describe someone who’s mad. You can’t attack the major part of society for using a word that means a totally different than it used to. I can’t say it enough - times change. Things are different now and you can’t complain.
