all hozier songs can be interpreted in hundreds of different ways, but as a greek mythology fanatic, i like to believe its at least a liiiittle related to icarus and apollo

i'm also a strong believer that regulus is an icarus variant -- getting too close to the "sun", something he was fully aware was dangerous, yet he took the chance anyway due to the love and just pure infatuation he had (cue the line of the song that says "i had been lost in you [...] and flew like a moth to you" because WHAAAT) and in the end dying due to this devotion

another line that has me ripping my hair from my scalp : "whose heart would not take flight? betray the moon as acolyte, on first and fierce affirming sight"

"whose heart would not take flight?" appealing to the way everyone loves james & nobody can blame regulus for how he fell for him

"betray the moon as acolyte" is a bit far fetched by stay with me ok?? i swear i'm not just yapping (yes i am). to betray the moon would be to betray remus, right? but james never directly does anything to remus, so what if this is referring to the marauders as a whole?? like to betray one of them would be to betray all of them & we all know sirius felt fairly betrayed when finding out abt jegulus!

"on first and fierce affirming sight" is based around their first impressions of each other -- which wouldn't be inaccurate to describe as fierce. seeing as regulus was sirius's little snobby slytherin brother & james was an obnoxious golden boy who had everything

but yeah!

god, i could go on and on and on about this (clearly), but i'll stop yapping now and get back to having a life

just finished my first read through of just lovers and i am sobbing at two am, desperately trying not to wake my roommate.

a few things:

1. i read the second half of the fic with “Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan and Hozier playing on repeat at an alarmingly high volume. 10/10 highly recommend. very wolfstar coded tho.

2. i read all marauders fics not centered around wolfstar with the intent that i get to read background wolfstar and boy did this DELIVER.

3. peter is treated like a real fucking HUMAN BEING in this and for that, i am in love with the author. peter has such PERSONALITY! dare i say that peters characterization in this fic outshined ATYD. (don’t hate me for this). i could go on and on about everything peter and did and how it made him a real character i loved, but we don’t have time for that.

highlights:

-when peter and sirius joke about shagging, and mime/pretend about to do it. because that’s fucking hilarious. and the way sirius and peter have these inside jokes between them and obvious interactions in the fic where sirius clearly gets along with peter and has spent one on one time with him and ENJOYED IT. and peter is funny and makes jokes too!

-peter telling regulus about seeing james potter naked during the breakup. he’s just a mischievous little shit like the rest of his freinds and i love him for that.

4. THE FUCKING END PARAGRAPHS HOLY SHIT. i could murder the author for this. (despite my previous statement of saying i was in love).

SPOILER:

JAMES SETS DOWN HIS FUCKING WAND AND LEAVES HARRY AND LILY AND REGULUS AND MARY AND HIS F A M I L Y TO GO OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR ON HALLOWEEN WITHOUT HIS F U C K I N G WAND.

when i say i started sobbing as i read that he heard a knock and set down his wand, i mean it. i had to set down my phone and breathe. when i realized they were fine, i sobbed harder because i was SO SCARED for them. all of them.

and the reference to it being like a ghost of another life. that KILLS me.

5. regulus almost drowning in the lake as a nod to his canon death was ABSOLUTELY gut wrenching. it was like torture of the sweetest kind for the reader.

6. the author made multiple references to “other lives, ghosts of another life, other universes, etc” and each one absolutely stole my lungs and heart and broke it into a million pieces before giving it back.

7. heather by conan gray (reg as conan, james as you, and lily as heather.) that’s all i have to say.

fucking masterpiece, lots of love. everyone should read this.

DEAD POETS SOCIETY - MODERN AU HEAD CANONS

Charlie Dalton and Knox Overstreet - The Secret Swiftie - And the most obvious

He definitely listens to Taylor Swift on a daily basis - Prolly lives and breathes the 1989 era - Now as for the question of how he expresses that? He is either that really quiet one until Knox walks in on on him screaming But Daddy I love Him - He will not let him forget it

Knox is the MOST obvious TS fan amongst the poets - Loves Lover and has cried with Todd over The Manuscript and loml and YOYOK and Back to December and All too Well (10min) - Neil has not forgiven him for that one night when Todd came into their dorm, crying about how The Black Dog is Wolfstar coded (The Poets are so into ATYD and like the Marauders lore)

Knox Overstreet is drunk and cries over Chris while listening to Laufey

Being the hopeless romantic he grabs a bottle of something and puts Laufey on loop on Spotify and cries about Chris - Charlie and Cameron in the dorm have to either stuff their ears or actually go and manually shut of Spotify to stop him from crying. Knox proceeds to cry without Laufey and mumbles the lyrics to himself until he falls asleep

Todd Anderson lives for Hozier analysis - Loves The Oh Hellos and The Crane Wives

Todd Anderson is the biggest Hozier fan (DUH). He spent much of his free time sitting down and breaking apart Unreal/Unearth with his copy of the Inferno at his side. Neil and Todd go out to stargaze and they blast The Oh Hellos and The Crane Wives on shuffle and Sufjan Stevens

Meeks has destroyed everyone while playing Monopoly and Among Us

People underestimate him too much - well the joke it on them! He has made Cameron storm off and Todd huddle in a corner during Monopoly. Monopoly Monday is not exactly a thing - but when it is everyone rallies to pin him and Charlie together (who wins occasionally due to dumb luck)

He trolled everyone while playing Among Us and is the last to die.

Pitts collects vinyl records and/or CDs

He is definitely into The Smiths and The Beatles and Queen and he loves to collect records and CDs sometimes for aesthetics - But he is in charge of bringing the playlist to the party cause he is not going to overplay any artist (Knox overplayed love ballads and got together with Todd and cried over glasses of cheap wine). Has the most unpredictable music recommendations, but never disappoints.

Cameron vibes with period dramas

Cameron loves the good period dramas, and has read Austen, Tolstoy and E.M.Forester. Wants to be loved but isn't Knoxious desperate. He loves Downton Abbey and relates too much to Thomas and Mary for obvious reasons. Had a crush on Mr. Darcy at some point but now will not shut up about Alec Scudder from Maurice. Charlie had the brilliant idea of scaring him with a massive paper cut out of Colin Firth's Darcy. What ensued was a two hour manhunt for Charlie Dalton. Cameron still has the paper cut out and the poets have grown to appreciate its presence.

Neil loves Hamilton and Les Mis

That's it - he just does - Loves Lafayette and screams the lyrics of Helpless at any given time - Tried to fancast the poets as the cast - And tries to get everyone to sing One Day More (Knox is almost always Marius and is hella dramatic - Todd and Neil make up the Enjoltaire dynamic - Cameron likes Javert)

The Poets Love the Marauders

Charlie flexes the Sirius James energy but he's such a Regulus to Knox's James, who sees Chris as the literal Lily Evans (they are the folklore love triangle change my mind) . Neil and Todd (Wolfstar in a different font). Pitts and Meeks stan GRANT CHAPMAN and Cameron lives for the Black family line drama. They've all written fanfics or literal poetry about them.

Keating refuses to own a kindle

He loves physical copies of books too much - Cannot fathom the idea of owning a kindle

Charlie loves 80s coming of age films

It's his whole jazz - LOVES FERRIS BUELLER and can and will quote The Monologues in The Breakfast Club. Cried over Stand By Me, and has not recovered.

Neil and Pitts and Meeks love Fullmetal Alchemist

It was Christmas when they read volume 4 and none of them have physically recovered from it - IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW - Todd and Charlie had to make hot chocolate and listen to their ramblings and deal with Knox at the same time (who was crying over Chris yet again)

Chris and Ginny and Todd and Pitts and Charlie are in a band together

Knox wants frontline tickets, and Charlie has the time of his life selling the those tickets to literally everyone else. Todd doesn't sing and refuses to and is the lead songwriter - Ginny is the lead drummer and Pitts plays the keys. Chris is the lead singer and Charlie plays the sax and some random instruments on the side. Neil is the supportive boyfriend and Meeks buys them drinks after, and Knox drinks and pours his heart out to Todd.

i know everyone is doing it, but i was hoping i could do match maker!

favorite color is definitely a hard one, but i’ve always been obsessed with purple (any shade i love em all!!) and definitely sage green and emerald green!!

favorite pass time has to be sleep. i get home from school, i sleep. i can sleep anywhere and everywhere. even if i’ve just woken up, get me in a comfortable position, wrap my blankets around me so i’m warm and i’m out in 2 minutes lmao. other things are reading, writing, listening to music, and driving around (while listening to music lol)!!

for shows i’ve been re watching supernatural (hence the sudden urge to write for sam and dean lmao), i like shadow and bone, bridgerton, criminal minds, derry girls, twd, and house of the dragon! as for movies, i’m a proud despicable me fan, i love the lorax, any tim burton movie but especially sweeney todd!

my favorite animal (one that i’ve been wanting for years but my mom won’t let me get) is a crested gecko, but i love cats, dogs (especially the italian greyhound. 100% the dog i’m getting when i graduate)

i know it’s not part of it, but my favorite music/bands are definitely pierce the veil, three days grace, 3 doors down, system of a down, hozier, and chappell roan!!

again, congratulations on 2000 followers, and i know we don’t talk as often as you do everyone else, but i cherish every time we interact and i’m glad we’re mutuals. i hope we both can go through more milestones together!! 🩷 (sorry it’s so long i love to yap about things i love lol)

You cannot tell me that Regulus wouldn't be fucking obsessed with Minions, are you kidding me? and some evil dude who gets accosted by cuteness and then just leans into said cuteness? Reggie coded fr fr. Barty would constantly be shouting "IM GOING TO STEAL THE MOON!!!"

Barty would totally feed into the sleepy time - second classes are ending, he's dragging you to the dorms for snuggles and snoozes. Regulus would roll his eyes fondly but spend his time reading while you slept (and maybe a cheeky nap cuddled up to you from time to time).

your music gives me Reg vibes but the shows scream Barty (Reg would also love Bridgerton, Criminal Minds, and Sweeney Todd)

Why is my playlist about Regulus Black the way it is?

Hi! So—whenever I get terribly obsessed with a fictional character I make them a playlist. Now it's up to…*drumroll* Regulus Black!

But...you all must know a few things:

I am a jegulus shipper (that does not mean I hate Lily, those things should have nothing to do with each other), so a few of these songs do revolve around this ship but it's okay, bare with me.

My first language is not english. If I make mistakes along this post please forgive me, I'm trying.

I’m known for doing long-ass playlist’s so I only chose ten of the sixtyfour I have.

I am a SUCKER for the Regulus/Icarus... headcanon (I guess you could call it). Listen to this: he flew too close to the sun, he was young and didn't know anything afar from being trapped, died drowning searching for this new freedom he just discovered was actually for him. Regulus IS Icarus and no one can stop me from relating songs that talk about the myth to him. Wich takes me to the next song.

Sunlight by Hozier

Hozier is talking about Jegulus in this song and I love that for him (and for me). The same logic, Regulus is fighting for that light he didn't knew he could have and was willing to sacrifice his life for it. I love him so much.

A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay

This whole song is so Regulu in crimson rivers coded its crazy and meanwhile I don't fully love Regulus' character always being a tragedy I love how this song wraps the way I think Regulus understands love: intense and sometimes violent but completely devoted.

when the party is over by Billie Eillish

Regulus stayed so Sirius could leave (do not take this the wrong way I know it was hard for Sirius too). He yearns for a different live, for another chance but still belives he doesnt deserve it THAT'S what this son is about, don't care what anyone say's.

Money Power Glory by Lana del Rey

Regulus Black is the Lana del Rey character. Its giving: ambitious, old money, revenge,"I wanted you to know that it was I who discoverd your secret." type of vibe.

Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift

I dont think I have to explain further. Taylor told me herself this song was about him.

Moon Song by Phoebe Bridgers

Read the lyrics with jegulus in mind and let it sink in. This is my personal headcanon but Regulus knew about the profecy before going to the cave so...there is that. He feels so much and loves so much that even himself can't bare it.

This album has me in a chokehold and Im certain that if Regulus could hear it, it would have him in one too. R.I.P Regulus Black you would've loved boygenius.

Hear me out on this one! This song is a revenge crime comitted mostly out of spite that ended up being pointless anthem just like Regulus' whole horrocrux hunting (I mean this in the nicest of the ways).

THIS IS THE REGULUS SONG. Each line hits you like a train. Actually Regulus is real and he wrote this song. Please, if you listen to any of this songs let it be this one. ITS JUST SO HIM.

My favorite Marcus/Love song. I actually based some of my Love design off this song where their eyes are a glowing, bright, cybernetic blue before the code activation and pink during it. After the osmium undone, their eyes stay purple and can’t be changed back.

This is a song specifically about Type 8 Enneagram, which I do think Sam and Darlin both are, about having had to be strong and tough and solid your whole life and having the courage to be soft and vulnerable with the people who love you. It’s also gorgeous, it really builds.

I love a good, heckin yandere song more than the next person, and this one is my favorite. It fuckin bops and is a great Ivan/Baby song.

A fun song I really like that I think also works for Vincent/Lovely. It just kind of gives the vibe of him knowing that they’ve been through a lot, that this isn’t how he wanted their love story to go, but he’s in, he’s behind them and so is his whole family.
