ive seen debbie written as being ableist to ian in some fics, but i can never understand it because i feel like out of all of the siblings she was the most understanding. yes, at fourteen she did say “totally monica”, but i feel like compared to everything fiona, lip, and carl said, that’s nothing. just look at how debbie helped monica, sheila, and ian, she tries her best to help and understand. from making mickey come back to ian/trying to get him his meds, her line to ian in season 9 about him not taking care of himself, and then again in season 10 convincing him to get back with mickey proves that she has always cared about ian’s health even further. she wouldn’t purposefully try to hurt ian by using his bipolar disorder against him, if anything, lip or even fiona would do that.
