I don’t know about you but i know i’m seriously fucked when i see characters interacting and they hit jackpot of almost every, if not all, kinds of dynamics where:
“i have strong feelings toward you but i know once i am able to touch and hold you i won’t know what i should do with these hands when you’re away”
the sun and the moon
the moon and the sea
the sun and the well-loved, dying sunflower
“i’d do anything for you” | “then live for me / live with me”
“i’d kill/die for you. say the word and i’ll do it in a heartbeat” | “no”
“i don’t know where else to go to” | (visibly angry) “who did this to you?”
[in life or death situation] “are you okay? are you hurt?” | “i should be the one asking you that! you’re the one who took the fall for me / who’s bleeding to protect me!”
Basically the all-powerful and capable, and their absolute weakness (still in denial sometimes)
the “what you did is very wrong but everyone deserves a second chance” and the “you’re lucky i took an oath to them (specifically) to not end you / make your life a living nightmare”
“please hesitate” | “i won’t hesitate ever”
the "i am not asking for your permission, don’t come with me” self-sacrificing and reckless dumbass, and their “someone has to watch your back while you’re being stupid. someone more clever and probably in the brink of having a heart attack the moment you take step out there: me”
“everyone looks up to them” | “hard not to when they’re that tall/big tbh”
the brat and the brat-tamer who probably has stiff joints and is grumpy or calmer than the brat most the time

unhinged fantasy wip cast <3
as a reminder, the base concept of this wip is “five people come together to put a stop to the second apocalypse a couple thousand years after the first one left much of the world completely uninhabitable, because the person who was actually ~chosen~ isn’t exactly interested and SOMEONE has to stop monsters from devouring the planet”
i haven’t named or made any picrews yet for the actual Chosen One character, because i’m keeping details about them as under wraps as i can, but i have the main five! the folks coming together to fight monsters and stop Apocalypse Two: Electric Boogaloo.
and also, the characters are going to be significantly more crittery in appearance, for lack of a better word. these picrews are mainly just to get base ideas down <3
tentative taglist (ask to be added or removed!): @wherearetheplants @nicola-writes @skitzo-kero @albatris @midnight-and-his-melodiverse

Tea (she/her)
[Image Description: A picrew of my OC Tea, shown from the shoulders up and facing forward. Tea is a dark-skinned woman with long, kinky black hair that hangs loosely around her shoulders, dark eyes, and pointed ears. In the picrew, she’s smiling, showing that she has noticeable dimples. She wears a black shirt under a green jacket and has silver earrings shaped like a moon and a star, and she stands against a blue background covered in lighter stars. End ID.]
Tea is a young woman from the shores of a massive saltwater lake in the southeast of The Cradle, closer to a small sea than anything. Tea is a very gentle, sweet academic who throws herself wholeheartedly into everything she does. In a way, she’s perhaps a little sheltered, but she adapts easily enough to new situations that it’s not too much of a problem for her.
She's dreamed for much of her life of going on an adventure of her own, but faced with the reality of how scary a real adventure can be, she feels lost and deeply frightened. The biggest theme of Tea's arc is self-discovery and finding meaning and stability in a frightening world that doesn't seem to HAVE any meaning. Something I do want to emphasize, though, is that Tea is a deeply hopeful character. Through it all, she never lets go of her hope that things will get better.
Orchid (she/her)
[Image Description: A picrew of my OC Orchid, shown from the shoulders up and facing forward. Orchid is a young woman with tan, freckled skin and grey eyes, wearing a pink hijab and a dark shirt. She has a soft smile on her face and a pair large, round, red-framed glasses. Behind her is a pale red-orange background with a white square around the edges. End ID.]
Orchid is a young woman from the dry, mountainous region to the north of The Cradle. She’s known for generally being very shy and anxious, which often manifests as severe panic attacks. She has found some comfort in her faith, however--Orchid is a devout follower of the god representing the moon, though she loves to learn about other faiths and the other gods worshipped throughout The Cradle. At heart, Orchid is a sweetheart, though she has a lot of self-doubt and doesn’t really believe in herself.
Also, Orchid has some sick-as-hell ice magic, but she's still figuring it out. Much of her character arc involves her learning how to use it and accepting its strengths and limitations, as extensions of her own strengths and limits. The biggest theme of Orchid's arc is finding inner strength and accepting herself, especially accepting her anxiety and learning to work around it without viewing it as a character flaw.
Rust (they/them)
[Image Description: A picrew of my OC Rust, shown from the shoulders up and facing forward. Rust is a pale-skinned person with shaggy auburn hair that hangs around their shoulders, pointed ears, a pair of short brown horns, and scars across their face. They wear an eyepatch over their left eye and a black top with a brown cloak. Their visible eye is yellow with a slit pupil. Behind them is a light blue background with a white circle around their head. End ID.]
Rust is a grumpy, angsty warrior from the southwestern canyons, which remains the largest deadzone in The Cradle even after centuries have passed. Rust has spent much of their life learning to fight Shades, as well as anything and anyone else who may pose a threat to them and their loved ones. Above all else, they were raised to place others’ lives above their own, and they fall easily into the role of a caretaker and a protector.
However, they struggle to let anyone else do the same for them, and they refuse to show vulnerability if they can help it. After a close loved one died to save them from a Shade attack many years ago, Rust has immense guilt they carry on their shoulders at all times. Their character arc is themed majorly around forgiveness, especially them learning to forgive themself for the past.
Foxglove (he/him)
[Image Description: A picrew of my OC Foxglove, shown from the shoulders up and facing forward. Foxglove is a brown-skinned man with wavy, dark-brown hair tied back in a ponytail, with one long lock hanging in front of his face and a small streak of blond through his bangs. He has pointed ears, brown eyes, and a light dusting of stubble. His right eyebrow is pierced, and he wears a white top under a darker jacket. Behind him is a light purple background with white stars against it. End ID.]
Foxglove is a young man from the thick forests in the northwest of The Cradle, known for being a loner who dislikes spending too much time around others. As a general rule, Foxglove prefers spending time with animals rather than people, as he finds animals much more trustworthy and easy to understand. His closest companion is a “horse” (in quotes because it’s not a horse as we know them) he tamed himself, which he affectionately refers to as Courage.
When it comes to people, though, Foxglove struggles to relate to them and understand them. He prefers to avoid them most of the time, if he can help it. Despite all of that, though, Foxglove is generally a very kind, friendly guy! He just... doesn't like forming close relationships for the most part, because he's been burned so many times. His arc is mostly themed around the idea of trust, and him learning to place trust in others again. I’ve mentioned before that I have an idea for a scene where a character rides a horse around a Worldeater--that’s Foxglove.
Newt (he/they)
[Image Description: A picrew of my OC Newt, shown from the shoulders up and facing forward. Newt is a fair-skinned young man with freckles on his face, pointed ears, green eyes, and messy blond hair. He has a wide grin on his face and wears a red and orange jacket. Behind him is a green background with lighter stars scattered around it. End ID.]
Newt is a young man from the swamps in the northeast of The Cradle, on the banks of a river leading down from the mountains and to the sea. Newt is a lovable rogue type, a huge flirt who loves attention and jokes, most of which he uses to keep others from catching on that he's robbing them. He’s supported himself as a thief with no help from anyone for most of his life, and though he’s outwardly cheerful, he has a very nihilistic worldview.
People haven’t had much in the way of expectations for Newt for most of his life. As far as anyone he knows is concerned, he’s a good-for-nothing thief no one would miss. So, he’s not really one you’d expect to save the world, but that’s part of exactly why he’s going to. Newt doesn’t think the world deserves to be saved, but he’s also not going to let it burn. Much of Newt’s character arc centers around seeing both the good and bad in the world and, like, making the conscious choice to care and help a world that’s looked down on you.

Anyway there are other characters, but here’s at least the main gang!
