For everlasting friendship between Korea and Japan

Introduction

We have eagerly watched and been impressed by Korean TV series such as Winter Sonata and Dae Jang Geum. After the success of the Seoul Olympic Games, Korea has become a modernized country with well-maintained wide roads, skyscrapers, all kinds of products and delicious foods sold in clean downtown Seoul, and well-developed industry.

Also, in fall, when we get out of Seoul for a while, we can see beautiful white, pink and red cosmos flowers on the roadside. We feel happy to see beautiful and gentle landscape, and We have a good impression with Korea.

However, unfortunately, it seems to us that the anti-Japanese activities in Korea have become more and more violent for the last few years. We even have the impression that Koreans consider Japan as an enemy country. Korea almost makes “Anti-Japanese” attitude a national motto and intensively denounces “pro-Japanese” sentiment as if it were a crime.

As the background, Korean people seem to feel that the annexation of Korea by Japan was an illegal and malicious act, that everything done by Japanese during that period was unpardonable, and that even the slightest trace of that historical event should disappear.

However, as to relationships between any of two countries in the world, the sole important thing for both peoples is to maintain friendship. We believe that it will not be helpful for the happiness of both to continue attacking the other and repeatedly demand apology and compensation.

Whether it is good or bad, or whether you like it or not, the past cannot be changed. We should not dwell in the past and sacrifice the future.

If Koreans show violent anti-Japanese feelings, Japanese people will be perplexed and obliged to take countermeasures for self-defense. We believe both sides should launch activities to get out of such a dangerous situation and deepen their mutual friendship.

Bad faith and animosity always give rise to reinforced bad faith and animosity as a reaction. Hatred and contempt will come back, only stronger. Attacks risk inviting stronger counterattacks.

We believe that the essential for true friendship is to pardon what cannot be easily forgiven, recognize what cannot be easily recognized, mutually stop attacking or blaming the other, and acknowledge, appreciate and respect the existence of the other.

For the better understanding of Korea, here We would like to review Korean history and candidly show the points about which We regularly have questions.

We hope that the basis for mutual friendship will be built through these “questions”, as both peoples will be encouraged to deepen the mutual understanding of the ways of thinking and recognition, acknowledge the differences as they are, and understand and respect the position of both sides.

We believe neighborly friendship between both countries is the only way for the true happiness of both peoples.

We would ask people in the world to judge whether this belief is correct.

We look forward to your guidance and support.

Do you know if pride flags are universal? Just wondering if any other countries use flags that have been created there. I'm guessing not because I think maybe we'd see them on Tumblr, but I also realize that lack of evidence on Tumblr doesn't make that a certainty☺️ anyway, I thought this blog would be a good place to ask. Also, I guess where were all the current standards designed?

Depending on what one thinks of in regard to pride flags (the progress flag, the rainbow flag, the asexual flag, etc.) they are fairly universally used. There is photographic evidence of them being used globally to represent queerness around the world!

That being said, there are customizations galore, both to represent individuality and intersectionality. This can mean similar colours but different configurations, additional elements added to flags, or multiple flags melded.

Flags in general usually start with an individual design from an individual person, such as the rainbow flag by Gilbert Baker. But localizing the rainbow design to represent a more specific intersection of identities is relatively common!

There should be more Taiwan but...

The thing is, once a Taiwanese BL starts delivering great kisses they just keep it up. So unless the narrative puts particularly strong plot intent on the "firstness" of that first kiss, they just get all sexy domestic muddled in my head.

The Kingdom of Silla ruled parts of Korea for most of the first millennium CE. At its height, around the year 500, it dominated the peninsula. The rulers of Silla during this time commemorated their power by wearing stunning gold-and-jade crowns. You may have noticed that we don’t have many ancient crowns from other parts of the world. Remarkably, the crowns of Silla survived in rulers’ tombs in Geumseong, the “city of gold,” until they were rediscovered in the 1920s.

I've seen a lot of (usually white) feminists talk about how western/European women should also replicate/do '4B' as well just as Korean women have -without recognizing or understanding the context with which 4B arose.

The current very right-wing South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol, is very much responsible for continuing to put the health, well-being, as well as safety of Korean women at risk. Whether it be through him vehemently stating gender discrimination no longer exists to attempting to abolish the ONLY organizing that focuses on supporting women -the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.

He has also only added a handful of women into his cabinet AFTER he was criticized for not having done so in the first place. When he was elected back in 2022, my solidarity has and will always remain with women and folks who experience marginalization in South Korea, such as those in the LGBTQIA+ and disability community, among many. I will, nor should NO ONE ever forget how this man campaigned/how he was elected in mass by misogynistic men.

President Yoon Suk Yeol also remarked about creating incentives for MEN by lowering their mandatory military service if they have more children with their wives... needless to say, 4B is specific to the lived experiences and realities of living under patriarchy in South Korea in many elements of her daily life. I stumbled on this video on my fyp, and this Creator gives SO much great context to 4B, and for those who can watch/listen I highly recommend this video as a start to understanding Korean feminism.
