propaganda (elevator pitches) ⬇️
Nocte (sw):
is CMO of the Coruscant Guard. fiercely loyal to the Guard. deeply wary of the senate, with very few exceptions. he's my oldest oc and probably the one y'all are most likely to have heard of. integrated into arcs with many of my friends' ocs/fics/whatnot <3 what else goes in his elevator pitch,,, known to take kids and younger clones under his wing, protective to a fault, low tolerance for nonsense. beat around the bush at your own peril. questionable bedside manner. manwhore tendencies. I love him, you love him. he's been transplanted into [checks list] cod, tlou, and bebop
Uj'alayi (sw):
is an ARC trooper, used to work with the Shadows then got brutally injured and had to transition to the CG. owes his life to Quinlan Vos and is disgruntled about it. guard dog coded. his bite is exponentially bigger than his bark. on the surface: quick to laugh, quick to joke, charismatic and personable without being overbearing. this may or may not be a mask he wears. will lay a beat down on just about anyone if they Cause Issues for Fox. in the relationship of all time with Lane Hurosa (another of my ocs)
Bones (sw):
is marshal commander of the 410th recon corps under Bastra Vargdan (another of my ocs). traits include: CQC specialist, confounded by the concept of the Force, at least partly responsible for getting a gambling ring going in the GAR (has a poke face like nobody's business). outside of working hours, he's laid back, easygoing. stark contrast between On-Duty Bones and Off-Duty Bones. encyclopedic knowledge of regs, but flexible adherence to them sometimes. big brained tactical strategist, ended up teaching Bastra a Lot about like. how to lead a corps
Bastra (sw):
my Jedi 👉👈 trained by Sifo-Dyas so dookudyas is very dad-coded to him. specialized as an Investigator, excels at undercover ops. also has quite a bit of integration into my friends' oc arcs and stuff <3 buddies with Obi-Wan, gets on pretty well with the TG and CG since he spends a chunk of his time on Coruscant. ummmm he takes a Padawan like 10ish years before the war, somewhere in that range. he's a goofy guy, real stiff and formal a lot of the time but it lets up around people he trusts. of course I know him, he's me etc etc. he's currently getting transplanted into cp2077
Lane (sw):
is a journalist on Coruscant. they spend a Lot of time in the senate district, very good at schmoozing. certified flatterer. charming, if you will. always asking one million questions that senators do Not want to answer, which results in bans from various spots around the city LOL honestly they're just neat idk what to tell you. they stay following risky leads and getting themself into binds. they're squinting very hard at the details of how the Republic acquired a clone army
Myn (sw):
is a smuggler in the early Rebellion era. also a relentless optimist, sees the very first scraps of resistance and buys in immediately. IF somehow Nocte’s alive at that point, Myn's the one who tries and probably fails to sell him on participating in the rebellion
Vio Selnes (sw):
owns and operates a 24h diner on Coruscant. this diner gets heavy business from clones leaving 79s. connections to the clones leads to scattered connections with the Jedi, leads to the restaurant being used as a rendezvous point from time to time. part of Dexter Jettster's network
Jag (mk):
is part of the Kahn Guard when Kotal's in power. he was raised by the Shaolin Monks until he bailed, moved to the States, got into all sorts of illicit activities. Kung Jin eventually moves onto his couch and joins his crew. those illicit activities land him in a stint with the Black Dragon, which is a real lesson in Kano Is A Bastard. when Erron jumps ship, Jag goes with him. he's kind of an idiot, full of trussed issues, gay as hell, will bring a knife to a gunfight or a gun to a knife fight
Rose (mk):
is part of Danver's crew from before he went BD. the brains of that whole operation. she's severely underdeveloped unfortunately but I promise she's very cool. computer nerd. minimal filter on her in the best way
Eyes (cp2077):
is a ripperdoc with more focus on ripping than doc-ing. from Pacifica, got a long time connection to Mr. Hands. wound up in Maelstrom pretty young, cut his teeth on committing atrocities and revolutionizing Maelstrom's uhhh forcible cyberware implantations and general torture methods :) was real loyal to Brick, so Royce wrecked his shit when he took over, meant to kill him but he managed to get out. winds up on Viktor Vektor's table for recovery, tries very hard to turn over a new leaf. he's a fucked up bastard of a guy I shan't lie. compels me though

My Adventures with Superman brings Hope back to the Man of Steel - REVIEW Ep 1 & 2
Tumblr media
*Spoilers for the first two episodes, now streaming on Max!*
Growing up, Superman always came off to me as a very nothing character. White bread. Good for the sake of good. Not funny like Spider-Man, not dark and cool like Batman, and too powerful to be in any real danger.
He was just there as the original cape and tights. He was important because he did it first, but that didn't make him interesting.
As I got older, and I read and saw him in more media, I realized the fun of Superman comes from the kindness. The hope he brings to those around him and that stable positive force is essential to the world and the Justice League. While he is the most powerful person in the room, because of who Clark is and his values, he's the person you fear the least.
He's gonna save your cat, he's gonna stop that burning building, and he's gonna get the bad guy, as unharmed as possible.
This is where the DCEU lost me, and where I think most Superman content does. That hope, that kindness, the gentle giant that Clark is has somehow been lost in translation.
While Henry Cavill is a great actor and can play the hopeful side, setting the tone of the movies as so dark and serious drained Superman of his charm.
Tumblr media
Superman and Lois has done a good job bringing Clark's hopefulness back in moments, but the Zack Snyder DCEU feel coupled with the CW drama still keeps Superman and Lois pretty dark and dire.
Tumblr media
While Hoechlin is a fantastic Superman, the world he inhabits has kept me wanting a true representation of the character I love.
Which is why My Adventures with Superman is such a breath of fresh air.
Tumblr media
Let's start with Jack Quaid. Using such a pure sounding soul like Quaid to embody Clark was a stroke of genius. While he is known for playing good-ish characters like Hughie in The Boys and Peter Parker/ The Lizard in Across the Spider-Verse, Quaid does not coast on his past charms for Clark.
This character equally feels fresh, different from Quaid's past characters, and like a kid who is transitioning into the Man of Steel.
Whether he is struggling to flirt, scold Lois for lying, or fight a robot, Clark feels genuine, kind, and strong.
As Superman, Clark does not change into a scary, super powered god. Instead, he is trying to help the bad guy, clean up the messes, and rescue kittens from trees. While we only get a glimpse of his true Superman form at the end of episode 2, it is enough for me to get so excited that I'm typing this all out. This is the Superman I've been waiting for!
Tumblr media
Rounding out the cast are Alice Lee and Ishmel Sahid as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.
Lee has a quality not always perfectly emulated for Lois in my opinion, which is spunk. Moxie. She is so clearly the leader of the team for the Daily Planet. Couple that with her comedy timing and clear chemistry with Quaid, this may be the blueprint for Clark and Lois in the future.
While usually Lois is a made journalist by the time Clark shows up, starting them at equal footing is an interesting development. I'm hoping they use this to show just how quickly Lois Lane can rise the ranks against others.
While Sahid is utilized the least so far, conspiracy theorist comic relief Jimmy is equally charismatic and likable. He is a character I think the DCEU and CW didn't quite understand the value of, but this show clearly does. My hope is this character goes on to go on as wacky adventures as he does in the comics.
Tumblr media
The chemistry between the three characters is very strong for the first couple of episodes. So much so I don't know if I'm more excited for more Lois and Clark romance, Clark and Jimmy bafoonery, or Lois and Jimmy investigating.
While the villains leave something to be desired in the first two episodes, the inclusion of overarching villains Deathstroke, Amanda Waller and General Lane lead me to believe they hope to build out this universe, at the very least into Batman.
Tumblr media
If that is true, I am so in.
I can see a world where we have 3-4 different anime shows introducing key members of the Justice League, all leading up to an anime style movie where they fight Brainiac, with Jack Quaid's Superman at the center of it.
But perhaps I am getting way ahead of myself.
All in all, My Adventures with Superman has me excited for Fridays to come. It has heart, it has comedy, and it seems to understand the Last Son of Krypton better than most pieces of media.
This should be the blueprint for Superman Legacy.
A Superman who brings donuts for all his coworkers.

Look Away - Chapter 1
I wrote a fic for EctoImplosion (@ecto-implosion)! @darnwafflessideblog made an animatic and I wrote this fic based on that. You can find his animatic here! I'll be posting one chapter a day for 6 days. :)
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Epilogue
---
Wes Weston peered at Danny Fenton’s locker through the lens of his Viewfinder Deluxe, waiting for the perfect opportunity to take a picture. The hallway was silent, save for the low buzz of the fluorescent lights. Class had ended ten minutes ago, and Danny was nowhere to be seen. Wes leaned on the wall and let out an impatient groan.
Danny always came to his locker after school, so there was no way he’d skip it the one day Wes was waiting for him, right? No, definitely not. He just had to be patient and then he’d be rewarded for his efforts. Today he might just be writing an article for the school newspaper, but one day he’d be a real investigative journalist, so he would have to get used to doing stakeouts like this.
Footsteps echoed down the hall, and Wes saw three figures heading in his direction. He strained to hear their faint voices.
“I’m just saying, the remaster of Doomed needs to change something significant, or it’s not gonna be worth playing. If they’re just upscaling the graphics, I’m not gonna bother buying it. Why split the userbase?”
They got close enough for Wes to recognize them. Danny clapped Tucker on the back. “Oh come on, Tuck, it’ll be fun. You know I’m saving my allowance to get it, whether it has new features or not. What about you, Sam?”
“It’s pretty important to know how it’s going to play. If nothing changes besides the graphics, it’s basically the same game. But… I preordered it anyway.” Sam shrugged. “New game means new players, which means more people to crush.” She laughed and stopped walking to lean back against one of the lockers.
Danny and Tucker stopped as well. “Yeah, I guess. Maybe I’ll get it,” he said, drawing out the maybe, “but we’ll see what pre-release reviewers think.”
Danny turned to face his locker. His head swiveled side to side, presumably looking to see if anyone was around. Wes was some distance away, but he ducked behind the corner anyway, just to be safe. He peeked back out and saw Danny reaching towards the locker with a book in his hand. Just as his wrist started to sink through the metal door, Wes pressed down on the shutter button. Click!
Danny’s head jerked in Wes’s direction. Wes spun back behind the corner.
“Did you guys hear something?” Danny asked.
“Nope,” his two friends said together.
“Hm. Okay.” Danny pulled his arm out of his locker, hand now empty. “Let’s get out of here and get something to eat.”
Wes waited for the sound of their chatter to fade before peering back around the corner. Nobody was in sight. Good. He relaxed against the wall and clicked through the viewfinder slides to find the newest picture. It was a perfectly framed photo of Danny with his arm phased through his locker. Fantastic.
He walked over to Danny’s locker and rapped his knuckles on the door. It was clearly solid metal. He knew he wasn’t crazy! Danny Fenton really did have ghost powers! But this wouldn’t be enough for the ignorant masses of Amity Park. He’d need more evidence.
A couple days later, Wes was no closer to finding concrete proof that Fenton was Phantom. He sat at the lunch table, food forgotten, tapping his pen against his open notebook. He had drawn a table with three columns, labeled “Fenton”, “Phantom”, and “Both”. In Fenton’s column he had written traits such as, “appears scared of ghosts”, “physically weak”, “soft spoken”, and “poor school performance.” Under Phantom, there was “physically strong”, “good at fighting”, “confident”, and “protective of humans”. And in the Both column he had “same appearance”, “access to Fenton tech”, “often seen at Casper High”, and “loves puns”.
He had to admit that his list of similarities was a bit lacking. It must have been some kind of act Fenton was putting on, pretending to be weak so nobody would know he had superpowers. He’d just need to get more photos. Maybe he could get a picture of him changing into his alter-ego, although he wasn’t entirely sure how that worked. Just another mystery to add to the pile.
Wes stole a glance at Danny’s table, hoping to see something suspicious. Danny turned his head and Wes quickly looked away, hoping he hadn’t noticed him staring. When he looked back, Danny was no longer there.
“Boo,” said a voice from behind Wes.
“Aah!” Wes nearly fell out of his seat. He slammed his notebook closed and turned around. “Oh. Hi. Danny, right?”
Danny laughed mirthlessly. “You know damn well who I am. Look, I’m gonna need you to stop following me around. It’s kinda creepy.”
Wes’s face blanched. “Uh, I’m not... I’m just taking pictures for the school newspaper.”
Danny put his hands on his hips. “Uh huh. Then why are you sneaking around?”
“Um. They want candid pictures?” Wes didn’t intend for it to come out as a question. Whoops.
Danny sighed. “Fine, whatever. Just stop taking pictures of me, okay?”
“Yeah, sure. I won’t take any more,” Wes lied. Shit, he was gonna have to be more careful. How do you hide from a guy with superpowers?
“Good.” Danny walked back to his table and started speaking animatedly to his friends. Wes wished he could be a fly on the wall to hear that conversation, but he knew better than to say that aloud. Everyone at school remembered when that genie ghost twisted people’s wishes, and he didn’t want to end up turning into a fly or something.
He was getting off track. Danny knew something was up. Wes had thought he was being subtle, but apparently not. He’d have to find sneakier ways to get pictures. A hidden camera would be easier, but for some reason, every camera Wes owned turned out blurry when taking pictures of ghosts. So he’d have to stick with the viewfinder. He wasn’t sure why it worked; maybe it was something about physical film strips? Regardless, subtle or not, this would have to do.
Wes would get his proof. Then he’d get the respect he deserved.

I dont know about you but recently I just saw someone here on tumblr using the Tenoch Huerta tagged doing the whole "you people should believe all victims because now there are mutiple woman accusing him. But you will defend white people like Ezra Miller"
Bffr.
Having you not been keeping pace and pretending to be ignorant. Many people on tumblr have been showing evidence that Elena isn't a victim, that all her so called "acts for women rights" is just her wanting political power, how she is light skin Latina who follows political that are anti-LGBT and trans. DOESN'T ANY OF THAT SCREAM 🚩
But know I bet you the who posted that isn’t keeping up with Mexcian news or how many people from MEXICO are admitting they thave either been threatened or assaulted by Elena or her family. Or better yet any document evidence against Elena that show poof she is a feminist. Even the other actress and feminist aren't clean one of them refined a man's life after convincing another actress she was SA or how the other feminist is a FRIEND of Elena which would've been fine since friend supporting friend if Elena didn't had such a dark history.
And I'll tell you this much. When this SA allegations came up I was on Elena side, however knowing Tenoch slander history I did found it suspicious. When more evidence came our that was AGAINST Elena I realized she a victim anymore regardless of her acid attack. Even if the evidence that Elena provide from her anon victims they still falled apart. While yes Tenoch being silence since the allegations is suspicious we don't know what going on on his end but I think when a other females that claim the FEMALE ACTIVIST is threating them, blocking any JOURNALIST who wants more of the story, the company that she is accusing to protect Tenoch providing EVIDENCE that they paid her, and looking beyond the Tenoch situation ND more towards Elena. People need to realize to stopping believing in the victims if there is so much evidence against them.
I think whatvi hate about this situation is that since this event is taking place in Mexico is harder for American media pick up to story unlike stories like Jonathan Majors case or the Johnny Deep case. And even when media picked up the SA allegations they didn't bother to continue their research and then dropping it leaving only the headlines the SA allegation 🙄. When there is so much more to this case that is proving innocence of Tenoch. I think unless there are other Americans who are still keeping up with this story they will know that Tenoch is innocent while Elena is a piece of shit while the majority would see his allegations.
That's a great take on the issue, Anon!
I find it infuriating, but I'm not surprised. In today's time of information overdose, all anyone cares about is the sensational news. So the allegations story made for a nice spicy, juicy piece of gossip, and it spread like wildfire. Coz people love to gossip, oh look at this actor (and racists going to the extent of labeling him as a sexual offender/addict coz he's a brown man 🙄).
Nobody cares about context, nuance, or bothering to do a little bit of research. Coz who will put all that effort! Because if anybody put even the slightest of effort, it is crystal clear who is innocent and who is not in this case. In fact, the more people here and on Twitter are investigating, the more disturbing things are emerging. We can now see there's a group of people who have come together with the sole purpose of destroying Tenoch's reputation and career.
I am a 1000% sure Tenoch is dealing with this just fine on his end. Unfortunately he is used to shit like this, although perhaps not at this scale. But I'm certain he's preparing a legal case, and there was a video posted yesterday wherein a Mexican lawyer covered the legalities of this case. All the evidence is in his favor. It's good he's staying away from social media, it will do no good to his career or his case.
I wish our group here had the means to make all this investigation gain more traction. We are trying our best, so are the folks on Twitter. But I'm also of the opinion that the American media and people have forgotten about it already. The public tends to have short-term memory. Do journalists care about clearing a man's name they very conveniently labelled as guilty? Of course not 🙄 most journalism is trash these days, barring few.

Chapter 2: A Lost Kitty
It’s been a year and half that I’m working in the Racounter. It’s pretty big company in the Northernbridge—a pretty big city and takes about 12 hours to fly here from Duskwood. I think I use all of my luck in my life so that I can work here. When Racounter was still a start-up, it already managed to be a dream company for everyone that wish to be journalist. Why wouldn’t it be? When this company always managed to be the first for getting so many information about important people; from artist, public figure, singer even to the politician—it feels like the people upstairs are having powerful backup or just simply dauntless to reveal all those dirty secrets from those important people.
But then here I am… a year and half yet still don’t have any breakthrough, just a girl who is bringing their coffees and doughnuts to other staffs. I take a deep breath as I’m looking at my hands which full with their orders. As the lift’s door is close, I’m watching at my reflection there.
Look at you, MC. Three years ago you were like an official investigator who helped finding a lost young girl, even interacted with the perpetrator, negotiated with the police officer, and almost got hacked by some weird guys. But right now? You back and forth to pick up your colleague’s coffee order, print their works, help their articles, and not even make a damn single work about your own project as the journalist?
I let out a long sigh as the lift’s door is open and walk out, heading to the office. I put my smile as I try to shrug it off whatever burden I just thought inside the lift, I’m handing their coffees and then put two boxes of doughnuts I just bought on the office kitchen’s table. My eyes are staring at every single of them, they look so busy and so cool. I wonder if they used to be in the same position like me. Can I even get out from my job as an errand girl and instead do some proper stuff like a good journalist I want to be?
“Nothing will change if I only stand still like this,” I tie my hair as I walk to my cubicle. Opening tab after tab and reading every file I can manage to collect. There must be some information that quite useful to get dug out. I try to contact everyone I know, from my school friends, to my neighbours, even the Duskwood’s chief police officer—Mr. Alan Bloomgate.
After what happened in the mine, few days after that then Alan called me to explain about everything briefly. I had no clue that time why the hell he didn’t ask me to come to Duskwood after everything that happened, especially when he was so intrigued for me to come to Duskwood. But then Jessy explained that Lilly asked Alan to not involve me any longer since Hannah already safe. Of course I thank Lilly for that. It’s not like I don’t want to go to Duskwood, I’m just not ready yet. After everything, after Richy and after Jake… there is no crucial reason for having little vacation there.
ALAN: I’m sorry MC but I don’t think there is big news here ALAN: Which I’m quite thankful for MC: Not even a robbery or another kidnapping case? ALAN: You are not serious, are you? MC: Sorry, I’m just quite hopeless ALAN: I pretty much understand ALAN: If that’s the hackerman of yours are still around, I’m pretty sure your job must be easier
Well, he is not completely wrong. Jake must be helping me out to get some pretty good information that I can use for. But it’s funny how Alan just brings him out of nowhere; I guess Jake is still on his nerve which is quite understandable and why not? When Jake hacked his stuff and even erased my name from police’s document as witness. Not to mention how FBI, that FBI invaded Duskwood for days just because they couldn’t find Jake in the mine. If only Jake and Alan met each other, it would be a completely chaos.
MC: Yeah probably MC: Anyway just write to me please, if there is some worth-to-post news MC: You wouldn’t mind if I ask for help, would you? ALAN: Of course I will gladly help ALAN: I will keep in touch
ALAN IS NOW OFFLINE
As my conversation with Alan is ended, I continue to read every collection of information I just have. Actually, I have no clues what am I after but I will do anything to make my own article… my own investigation. I couldn’t just always keep assisting and helping my colleague, right? Even though it’s part of the work but still…
“Miss Clarke, until when will you stay here? It’s already late, you know? I understand that you love our office so much, but please go home.” The voice behind me startled me; I look behind and find the man is fixing his scarf. William Ambrose, my colleague who managed to enamour not just women but also men in this building. He looks like coming out from romance novel; light brown hair, toned and tall body, a pair of captivating green eyes. Not only by appearance (or even his last royalty name), but his personality will make everyone fall for him too. I will be lying if I said that my heart never flutter with his demeanour; how on earth your heart is not beating so fast when a gorgeous man is being nice at you?
Just like another story I found amusing to tell to Jessy, I also told about him to her. I don’t even need to guess with her response which is of course she is shipping me with him and tell me to hit on him and move on. If only she’s not my friend, I would like to make her as geese’s treat.
I take a glance at the time on my desktop’s screen; it’s already this late huh?
“I guess you are right. I didn’t even realise it’s already this late,” I immediately tidy up my things as I chuckle. “Thank you for reminding me, Mister Ambrose. Are you going home?” I continue as trying to make small talk while my hands are busy to clean up my desk.
“Bet you were drowning in your work again.” He smiles while heading to the door, “I will love to walk you home but I have something important to catch up. Do you mind if I go first?” My hands stop putting my stuff inside my bag as I look at him, my brows furrow.
“That’s a strange question,” I laugh. “Of course I wouldn’t mind. Please go.”
“I thought we are in the same page, but it seems not.” He replies quietly before giving me his smile. I frowned hearing his words. “Well then… see you on Monday, Miss Clarke.”
He waves his hand to me before walking out from the office. Sometimes he can be really strange and I still don’t catch whatever reason behind his strange demeanour. Is it late puberty or hormones? I shake my head and then shut down my computer before heading to the lift. There are still some people pulling all-nighter in this building, I greet some of them which people I know.
Just as my heels heading out to the entrance of building, I can feel the night breeze brush my cheeks. It’s already this late so the taxi fee will be much expensive rather than the usual one. I want to save up more money that’s why I choose to walk. Perhaps if I’m lucky, I can catch up the train. Luckily, I’m wearing my comfy heels which make me easier to walk especially when passing this dark, sloppy and muddy alley.
I choose the dangerous path, I know. But I need shortcut, and also I don’t want to get really wet because of this sudden rainfall pouring out of nowhere—England and its beloved rain.
“Remind me why we need to do transaction in this filthy place?”
As I heard someone’s voice, my feet stop immediately. I quickly hide behind the cold and mossy wall. No, I didn’t intend to eavesdrop just because I’m a journalist and need material for my articles. I’m hiding because I’m scared with whatever transaction they are talking about is dangerous and they may or may not murder someone who accidentally passing by.
“The stuff we are doing is illegal if I need to remind you, sir.” The other man with hoarse voice scoffs, “do you suggest that we are having luxury and fancy dinner in Michelin star restaurant while handing these rare items to the one of important people in UK?”
My eyes widen in surprise as my heart is beating so fast. This is why I need to hide. Should I just go back to another way or maybe, just maybe… I can peek and take a quick glance, just a quick glance for recognising whoever those people are.
I take a deep breath before exhaling it slowly, trying to comfort myself to remain calm. I take small and quiet steps then peeking behind the wall. Damn, I didn’t think about the coat they are wearing to cover their faces. I cannot even recognise the single feature from this distance especially when the rain is making it much harder to identify them—them… not just two people there, but I think it’s 10 people if I’m not mistaken. It’s hard to be certain. I should just back off since I still have chance. It will be nightmare if those people notice me here.
BRAKK—!
I forgot there is dustbin behind my back as I stepped back slowly. My body is in freeze and I’m unable to hear anything besides the rain falling. Just before I want to move, there is a sudden figure covered by black coat in front of me. My body immediately response and snap me back to the reality. I’m sprinting with all of my power, running away from whoever that person is, because I know, if I get caught then…
I’m running and passing through the alley, I cannot do this anymore. I’m almost out of breath as my stamina to run is decreasing. Just after I turn to the left, someone is pulling me harshly and pinning me against the wall. As reflex, of course I want to scream, but that person’s hand already covering my mouth.
“Shh,” he shushes me. I look up and want to see whoever this person is, but he is covered with hood and mask. The only thing I can see is his gaze which watching the alley, waiting and monitoring if those people can find us.
As both of us are waiting for the situation to be clear, our gap is closer thus I can hear his heavy breath. My eyes are trying to take a good look from the man in front of me; he is larger than me so whoever he is will be a new death threat after those people. My head is busy making scenario how to escape or even defend myself from this guy till it makes me so dizzy.
“You keep meddling into bizarre and dangerous situation,” his deep and quiet voice is realising me from the scenario I have been thinking. He pull away his hand which covered my mouth before, his eyes now are staring at me. I can see his blue eyes are swallowing me. “Did you enjoy it?”

I think at this point everyone has collectively lost the plot. The things going on in the f1 tag are insane.
I’d like to ask the people who demand statements from drivers: what do we actually know? what kind of official information do we have?
There was an investigation because of a misconduct.
Do we know for sure of what nature this misconduct was? No.
Do we know if the leaked evidence is real? No.
The Red Bull statement about the situation left way too much room for speculation, causing new rumors and accusations to spread like a wildfire.
At this point journalists ask drivers (who are just as clueless as the rest of us) vague questions to write new baseless articles about the situation. Let’s be honest here, not even half of the talk is about that poor woman. It’s all about power dynamics, drama and how said drama might influence the paddock and driver line ups.
I’m 100% standing behind every person who’s brave enough to take a step forward and address wrongdoings of any kind. We should all take it seriously, no matter if we know what exactly happened or not.
But wanting drivers to issue a clear statement against sexual misconduct based on rumors is actually insane. Could they have handled the situations better? Absolutely. Should their pr teams make them sit down and learn better neutral answers? Without doubt.
But right now everybody should take a step back and a good look at the actual facts we have, and think twice about random quotes that can be out of context or linked as an answer to completely different questions/ topics. I do understand the anger and frustration, but the only one that we could actually call out for handling the situation poorly is Red Bull.
The plot is so gone it went missing during the Jacobite uprising and I ain’t seen it since.
Almost nothing has been confirmed publicly.
And the journalists are taking liberties with their questioning imo. They shouldn’t be allowed to ask anything not racing related to anyone except Max, and maybe checo. I feel bad for Max but he’s kind of fair game because he brought Jos into the picture.
But wtf is Kevin Magnussen, who’s probably seen Christian Horner from 20 three times in the last year, meant to say? Is he meant to confirm he’s read the rumours? Say he’s read the messages on a bootleg Google drive link? Give his personal interpretation of Christian’s selfies?
Can we all just be so real right now.
People call drivers out of touch but they grip on reality really is tenuous for some of these Twitter warriors

So I'm writing the quasi-dark fic of Suguru and reader. He's a powerful cult leader. Very influential and has global politicians and CEOs bu the trachea. Runs the world type shit. Think JJK0 Sugu, but in a suit.
Reader is an investigative journalist. She's onto him and knows what he's about, but she knows if she publishes her findings she might be killed for it. But she's determined to do it.
But the the thirst is so real and so mutual. He wants her, in all senses of the word. He wants to utterly corrupt her, morally, emotionally mentally and sexually, make her only his, and sex is just one of the avenues he plans to use to do that.
She, on the other hand, knows his a psycho narcissist with a god complex but she has seen him at the gym and in the pool taking laps in his hoochie daddy shorts and the very wet dick outline through them and his hair sticking to his back and the water running down his abs and his fucking snail trail and -
ANYWAY. This is a man who has the power to destroy entire governments and absorb multinationals but when he's in his mansion at 6pm after his third cup of green tea and fucking one of his fave hoes (that dude can suck dick really well) has not calmed him down he's jerking himself off to the thought of reader like a horny 19 year old? A powerful sexy, man wanking to the thought of you?
Whew. Let me go feed the dogs.
NAT. NAT. NATTTTTTTT.
I AM FUCKING FERAL RIGHT NOW.
if anybody is seeing my comments, I need all the prayers that I can get to survive this concept. this has me fluttering and hot in so many different ways, my goodness, EVIL SUGU JUST HITS SO DIFFERENT.
especially when he's so obsessed with you?? where you're constantly in the back of his mind even when he's with somebody else??
I'm going to vomit - I swear this post is about to hospitalize me. IT'S SUCH A GREAT IDEA.

Benjamin Smallbrook · ex- Sheep Farmer, Bray, Berkshire41m A super-injunction I was offered the opportunity to meet up with a freelance journalist who works closely with a well-known national newspaper. Yesterday, we had lunch together at Misto, a small Italian restaurant in central London. I was hoping to come back to Quora and give you some news. I have a nasty feeling, because of the subject, I’m still going to be writing in riddles! All I can do is urge you to read between the lines. I asked him about injunctions. He explained that they are very powerful. A super-injunction is seldom used, and it offers a massive layer of protection to those who want to avoid defamation, and prevent the publication of private information – but more importantly, it also prevents media outlets from even publicising the existence of the injunction. The rich, the famous, A-list celebrities – and even Royals, can pay (it appears that a requirement is that you need to be very wealthy) to have a super-injunction put in place. Costs are put at £200,000 plus. Journalists, in general, are against injunctions, claiming they ‘stifle free speech’. It is usually celebrities who opt to pay a lot of money to use the law - to prevent information being published. But people need to understand the difference between public interest and what the public are interested in. Everyone likes to hear juicy gossip, but the bottom line is - Is it going to be of any benefit to those who want to hear it? Due to the nature of super-injunctions, it is nigh on impossible to reveal details to the public. Our Members of Parliament can get round this by using ‘Parliamentary Privilege’. MPs are not bound by injunctions so therefore do not face contempt charges if they reveal information, simply because ‘restricting free speech’ would be a hindrance to democracy. Frustratingly, my journalist friend explained over and over again that a super-injunction forbids any mention that the injunction even exists. Newspaper editors naturally know how many injunctions are in place, but they cannot say what the injunctions are all about, or who placed them! So, in a nutshell, it’s a form of secret justice which has been applied by those amongst us who have enormous amounts of money. It is not open to scrutiny by the public. I’ve known the journalist for several years. His father, who died five years ago, was a working colleague of mine. I wanted to know if one particular injunction was in place. My question to him was straight to the point, and what surprised me the most, was that he confirmed it wasn’t the first time he’d been asked about this. I’ve always wondered why the newspapers avoided writing about the subject of Markle’s suspected surrogate children. After all, there are many smart investigative journalists who could get to the bottom of this with just a few phone calls and a couple of emails to the right people. I asked him outright, “Is there a super-injunction in place that prevents the Press from giving details about her supposedly fake pregnancies?” He told me he didn’t know anything about it. But then added, “Well if it exists, and it’s only a guess, of course, it was put in place early, while ‘they’ decide how to deal with it.” He stressed again that it was only his guess. What a convoluted answer! He told me that every UK newspaper editor knows the answer to the surrogate question. I was also told that none of the top journalists will present such an article to their editors for publication. I again asked if a super-injunction was in place to stop any mention of surrogates, and Meghan Markle’s pregnancies. He said he didn’t know. This journalist agreed to have a chat with me. He specifically said he wasn’t prepared to give any details in an email. I thought this would mean I would hear everything ‘off record’. He’s one of the UKs top reporters. He would definitely know, but he insisted he could only make a guess, and his guess would be as good as mine. I suggested we should forget all about my interest in injunctions, and I asked him his personal opinion. He said, “My personal opinion is that she wasn’t pregnant with either Archie or Lily, but what do I know, I’m only a scribbler!” He told me the Royals know everything about Meghan Markle. He said, “Do you really think that somebody could marry into the Royal Family without MI6 making criminal checks. There would also be checks on nationality, parents and other family members. They would have interviewed friends of friends of her - to see whether all stories stack up. Their report would have been handed to the Queen.” My final question to him was, “Have newspaper editors agreed not to produce articles questioning the validity of the two Sussex children?” He said, “Of course not. What a ridiculous thought!” But he paused, looked me in the eye, and gently nodded his head. Please read between the lines, and form your own opinion
Thank you…..I have seen this before and so happy to see it again…thank you!❤️

What if...? Duskwood Chapter 6
Chapter 5  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Macie POV*
It was horrible when I got back to work. I had to listen to Christian tell me that I shouldn't turn in anything again without going through him first. It was clearly an abuse of power, because I didn't have to tell Christian if he accepted my news or not. Someday I'll make him eat all the words about him, but… Ugh… The boss's favorite because he attracts all eyes.
Well, the positive is Cleo's information. It seems that Alfie, the son of Mrs. Walter has seen a live legend 'The Man Without a Face', carrying her friend. I like legends, but clearly a legend can't exist, so that means there might be a witness to the kidnapping. Cleo told me to ask Jessy about the legend and she opened a chat for Richy, her and me, but since he and I were busy, we left it for later.
I'm reviewing the latest news I've been given and Aiden walks over to my table.    "Something tells me from the look on your face that Christian has told you how important he is and that you must be below him." He leans against my table, sitting down at the end.    "It's amazing that you have the same position so high and you are nicer." I commented, looking up from the computer.    "Not all famous journalists are as self-centered as he is, Macie." He winks at me and I laugh. "But you're the only worthwhile person in this place-"    "What she what?" Lian comes out behind him, placing a hand on her shoulder "Did I miss something between you two?"   I roll my eyes. She really has a sixth sense for romance. Either that or it's about married life, she wants to see her friends get married too.    "There's nothing between us," I replied with a laugh, "we're just friends, right Aiden?"    “Of course yes.” Aiden gets up from the table awkwardly. "Well, I have to go, I have to give the sport. See you later Macie. "    "See you later."    I return to the computer, but Lian still hasn't left my desk. I look at her and see that smile she always puts on when she's curious. Luckily it's Aiden and not Mister Hacker, surely there she would be jumping excitedly if she could, since with her pregnancy, she wants to be careful.    “Did you know that Aiden has been in love with you for a long time?” she asks me, tapping my shoulder.    “No way! I would have noticed.”    "Of course you know, you just don't care to know."    "Well, he's… cute."    ”Yes, his resemblance to Zack Efron in High School Musical 3 has them all drooling remembering their adolescence."     I let out a laugh and a co-worker looks at us badly for not working.    "You could give it a try," if she turns to see him walk away, "at least he's got a nice ass."    "Nah, I don't think so." I answered, looking at him, while I thought about the hacker. "But is that what you think when I should give him a chance?"    "It's the pregnancy hormones, what do you want me to do to it?" Her cell phone rings and she starts reading the message "Great!"    "Brian?"    "Yes, the poor guy has spent four years in an investigation that doesn't give him a day off, but… soon they'll give him at least one day aaaaand…. It coincides with the day of the party!"     I see her so happy talking about her husband, it makes me die of sweetness. They make me very envious, but at the same time she makes me happy that she has someone that she loves so much that she can hardly see him because of his work. Brian's job is government investigations, so he's always busy looking for criminals. He is another great friend of mine, almost like a brother. He also cares a lot about me.    "Connors! Bring us coffee!" A superior shouts.     I closed my eyes taking a deep breath. Lian pats me on the head.    "Don't get upset, it's not good for the skin." she jokes.    "I'm grateful that tomorrow is the weekend." I get up from the table, grabbing my bag and jacket.    "Why? You have something to do?"     The hacker goes through my mind. I could pay him a visit and bring him breakfast, I think after today, I think I should excuse me.    "You already know my plans: The Vampire Diaries series, a glass of wine and a couple of cupcakes."    "Macie, friend, leave Damon Salvatore and find yourself a real one, a vampire is not going to fill you-"     "See you later Lian!"      I want her to stop being pregnant, damn hormones.
I finally got to speak in the group and learn about the legend of The Man Without a Face. The story of a punisher of sinners who lives in the deep of the forest. His mark: Paint a raven on the door houses of those he is going to punish. He takes the victims to the forest forever.    "Um…so did Hannah do something?" I think after listening to Jessy “why else would a man who takes sinners go after her?"     I must write it down. While on Cleo's side, Mrs. Sully saw Hannah coming out of the pharmacy, maybe it has something to do with the photo I found of the prescription?    "What was wrong with you, Hannah?" I ask myself, somewhat worried about this whole situation.
I got up early and talked to Jessy. The more I talked to her, the more I analyzed her. She didn't seem to be one to hurt anyone. Sorry Mister Hacker, I find Jessy a good friend, I can't suspect that she is the culprit.
I take two coffees and go upstairs. I haven't found anything interesting unfortunately. He open the door again before I knock.    "But this time I went up in silence." I say surprised.    "No, you still need practice" he sighs, raising a hand to his head "What are you doing here?"    "First of all, good morning," I say with a small smile, "and second, I wanted to apologize for how I behaved yesterday, I'm not one to have a childish attitude." I hand him the coffee and he accepts it, letting me pass.     I hear him let out a lazy laugh. It's like he controls himself every time he laughs.    “You really care about nothing,” he tells me, moving closer to me “and you haven't sent any clues."    “But I have to write what I've found and besides“ I tuck my hair behind my ear, getting a little nervous “maybe I think it's not bad to keep you some company.“     He goes to his table with coffee in hand. I follow him and sit in my chair, at the same time as him.    "I don't need company," he tells me, even though his eyes say otherwise. I notice too much loneliness and sadness in them. “And surely you have more important things to do.“    "Believe me, for me, being here is much better than anywhere."    "Too much stress being popular?" He drinks his coffee raising her eyebrows. Little funny.    "Well, no," I replied, blowing on the coffee. “Because I like spending time with you even though you are Mister Grumpy.“     I watch as his cheeks turn pink. Now it has been my turn after his words yesterday.
I smile happily. If I could, I too would have brought Henry to meet him and is it crazy to say spend all day here?    "I'm the worst option to pass the time" his words from him leave me curious. I don't think that way.    "I don’t think so."    "And if I don't like that you come to keep me company?    "You wouldn't have opened the door for me."    "I could kick you out now."    "You're not going to do it."    "Why do you think that?"    "Because you like that I'm here talking to you."     I place my hands under my chin, smiling a little mischievously. He leans back, looking to the side.    "Well?" I ask, waiting for his counterattack response.     He turns a little to look me directly in the eyes. I manage to see a small smile although he tries to be serious    "In a couple of investigators there always has to be a joker, someone has to be touched.    “Are you implying that I'm the clown?” I frowned, pretending to be offended.     I finally hear his laugh for real. Sincere. I like it a lot.    "Don't laugh." I replied, but I ended up laughing with him.     Yesterday's anger with Christian fades and I feel strangely happy. Seeing him smile makes my heart race. It's true, I've never felt this way for anyone. I like him and I don't even know his name. For now, I'll wait until I can ask him at the right time.
I get a chat notification and Mister Hacker makes a surprised sound. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thomas Dan?
Dan What the hell? Where have you been?!
Thomas You know what, doesn’t matter
Dan What the hell is going on with you??
Thomas You still holding up your end of the deal? Shit Dan, I am serious!
Dan Yes! Yes I am. Of couse
 Thomas Thanks
Dan Don’t make me regret this ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mister Hacker and I looked at each other.    “What was that all about?” he asks me, though he seems a little more to himself.    "Whatever it was, it sounded highly suspicious."     He looks back at the screen, concentrating on the text.    "It sure did." He rubs his chin in thought, and then he looks at me. "Maybe we will be able to figure out together what it means" I try not to get emotional listening to 'Together', it's not good for my feelings if I'm disappointed later. "I thought it was more than odd that Thomas disappeared after the news of the dead body surfaced. "    "Maybe he was just devastated." I replied, gripping the phone tightly.     But of course, I'm curious where Thomas has been, if he doesn't want to be suspected, he shouldn't have disappeared like that.    "Wait, something else is happening."     With those words from him, I look at my phone again, curious. This time it was Dan talking to a man named Poke. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poke How are you doing today Mr. Anderson! I’ve got your little message
Dan Then why the hell are you texting me then?
Poke I just wanted to make sure You are as paranoid as ever see
Dan How about you cut it out?
Poke Ok ok calm down You know the time and the place
 Dan Of course
 Poke Perfect
 Dan 350
 Poke You got it
 Dan 300?
 Poke No way
 Dan Asshole
 Poke Likewise Oh and Dan?
 Dan What
Poke I am sorry about the girl
 Dan Me too ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I immediately got up from the chair going to the whiteboard to write it down. Too much information.    "Mmh... What do you think all of this could mean?" I turn to look at him, he has gotten up and started to walk around the room.    "It appears Dan is buying something from the stranger." I start to write under Dan the new information and the name of the man called Poke "And for  that he is asking for €350"  I write between question marks 'Drugs?', suspecting that for that amount, it can only be one thing. Maybe Thomas got into some drug thing and Hannah knew about it?     M.H. read the notes I posted.    "That’s exactly what I think." I look at him and he smiles at me. "Good job."    "Thanks." I smile back.    "Beside that, I am sure they referring to something highly illegal," he walks around the room again. "Dan was bending over backwards to make sure that object in question was not mentioned by name."    "We have to get to the bottom of this!"    "I know." I watch as he puts his hand to his head, scratching his hair desperately. "Let me think."     I keep looking at him worried. Is he okay?    "I am going to get the stranger’s phone number."    "Good idea, I will contact him and I take care of it." I notice my decision in my voice. I know I'll get something out, I have to do it for Hannah.    "That's the right attitude." I notice him excited, with that brightness that I had seen when I received the call from the kidnapper, only now he seems much more motivated. Will he do it to make up for what happened? "Give me a little time to find out the number."     He returns to the table and starts typing and moving the mouse fast.
The image, the Poke number, looking for Hannah… I look again at the clean kitchen and since he's distracted, I walk around the house to see where he sleeps. In the room I only see a backpack, a blanket and next to it a small chronometer, will he rest well this way? The bathroom almost looks unused, but some soap can be seen. I open the faucet to check if at least it has hot water…    "How can he live here?" I wonder when I notice that cold water comes out but not hot.
I return to the living room and look at him concerned.    "Hey Mister Hacker..."    "Yes?"    "Sure you don't want to be in a better place? Like for example... I can let you have a room in my house."     He looks up and seems alarmed. I haven't said anything bad either    "I'm fine here, don't worry."    "But-"    "Don't worry so much, Macie," the voice... It sounds soft, as if he wanted to reassure me for worrying, "I'm perfectly here and..."     He remains silent and looks at me doubtfully. He always does that. He is silent when he wants to say something important, he hides something from me.    "I'll come tomorrow" I change the subject, to avoid discomfort "Do you mind if I come for lunch? I just wanted to spend the morning with my son."     Mister Hacker chokes upon hearing my last words. I couldn't help it, I wanted to break the tension a bit.    "Your what?"    "My son."    "Do you have…" he looks at me alarmed "But why didn't you tell me before?"    "Because the subject hasn't come up." I take out my phone and approach him. "Look, this is Henry. "    "I don't want to see him" he turns away avoiding seeing the mobile screen.    "Come on, look."     Surreptitiously, I see how he looks at the photo on my screen, seeing my dear and cute rabbit. He lets out a relieved sigh, picking up my phone to look at the screen better...    "Now I understand everything." He doesn't look away, I even see a smile escape him. "He must be too important to you to have it as your wallpaper." he hands me back my phone and now I look at the screen.    "It was a gift from my friends," I smile looking at him. "I don't feel alone with Henry, I tell him all my secrets."    "Oh, then I don't have to worry."     He smiles at me and I feel like I melt at his little joke.    “No, he keeps them pretty well."     I can't believe he's laughing at what I just said. The joke I have made is bad.    “Then don't linger so long,” he tells me, relaxing in his chair. "Returns home with your son."    "Thanks, you're the best boss I've ever had." I teased, picking up my things.    "See you tomorrow then?" He asks me a little shyly, surprising me.    "Yes, I'll come tomorrow."     He returns to the computer and his bangs cover his eyes. But not his smile.    "See you tomorrow then, Macie."    "See you tomorrow, Mister Hacker."
I can't wait for tomorrow to arrive. *Jake POV*
She really loves to make me nervous. It almost give me a heart attack when she told me that she has a son, I didn't expect her to talk about her pet. It had been a long time since I had so much fun with someone.
When it comes, I forget what my life is really like. It might just be an hour to forget why I'm really hiding, but it made me feel relieved. Unfortunately, I have to remember that she won't be around for long, after all, she lives in the light, while I hide in the shadows. It could never work. I couldn't put her in that danger.    "Instead here I am, forgetting it every time we see each other." I look at Macie's cell phone screen, now understanding that the rabbit was her pet. I smiles again when I remembers how she had looked at the photo. "You have a very adorable son, Macie."

[NEW YORK] JUNE 20TH The O’Keefe Media Group has published a new story focusing on perhaps James O’Keefe’s most powerful investigative subject to date, BlackRock Inc.
In the footage, a BlackRock Recruiter named Serge Varlay describes how BlackRock is able to ”run the world” in about 7 minutes of riveting undercover footage. The footage was captured over the course of several meetings in New York by one of OMG News’ rockstar undercover journalists.
BlackRock Inc is the world’s largest asset management company that’s gained more notoriety as of late due to its large acquisitions. Varlay says it’s easier for BlackRock to do things when “people aren’t thinking about it” and the asset giant “doesn’t want to be anywhere on the radar. This story is a peek into why.
Serge Varlay told our journalist that BlackRock manages $20 trillion dollars worldwide. According to him, “it’s incomprehensible numbers.” BlackRock has over $9.5 trillion of assets under management, that’s larger than the GDP of all countries on the globe except the US and China.
“The senators…are f***ing cheap – you got 10 grand, you can buy a senator,” Varlay remarked in what is arguably the most unabashed description of corruption and bribery from their own company we’ve ever heard. The extended soundbite from Varlay is below:
You can take this big f*** ton of money and buy people, I work for a company called BlackRock…It’s not who is the president it’s who is controlling the wallet of the president. You could buy your candidates. First, there is the senators these guys are fuckin cheap. Got 10 grand you can buy a senator I’ll give you 500k right now It doesn’t matter who wins they’re in my pocket.
Varlay doesn’t stop there, he goes on to describe what those in his line of work think of the tragedy of war saying its “real f***ing good for business”.
Ukraine is good for business, you know that right? Russia blows up Ukraine’s grain silos and the price of wheat is going to go mad up. The Ukrainian economy is the wheat market. The price of bread goes up, this is fantastic if you’re trading. Volatility creates opportunity for profit…
Varlay added that its “exciting when s*** goes wrong.”
Despite the fact that Varlay literally asked the OMG journalist if she was “undercover” based on the nature of her questioning, Varlay didn’t know he was being recorded when he was sharing his thoughts. He was skeptical of the reporter’s questioning because “normal people don’t give a s***” about these harsh realities. “It’s beyond them,” says Varlay.
A video of James O’Keefe’s interview confrontation with Varlay is expected to be released soon. As of the time of this writing. A press representative for BlackRock Inc has declined to comment on the story.

Vote 1 Chloé Bourgeois, by @halcyyonn
Based on a prompt submitted by @gaussiansphere: A house of cards style political thriller about Chloe running to succeed her father as Mayor of Paris
AO3; Political AU, Political Drama, André is Corrupt
Summary:
Chloe Bourgeois had been aware of her father's corruption for years, and she was determined to stop him. Her own political campaign was picking up steam and everything was perfectly planned. Or it was, until someone else discovered what Andre had been using his power and influence for. Chloe could make it work for her
---
The story broke early in the morning, dragging Chloe out of bed far too soon after the late night she had. Even though her team had assured her the situation was under control and no one would find out, someone had clearly been wrong. If she was anyone but Chloe Bourgeois, someone making a mistake about a secret might not be that big of a deal, but she was Chloe Bourgeois. She had been keeping the details of her father’s corrupt political career under wraps until she could use it to win the election in a few months and take his place as mayor of Paris. Was it underhanded? Of course, it was politics. Was it also a necessary evil? Yes, absolutely.
Chloe’s entire plan revolved around getting herself into the mayor’s office. If she only removed her father from his position, someone else would take his place, while Andre still pulled the strings. He, and everyone that took orders from him, had to go.
When Chloe arrived at her office, her entire media team was already assembled. All of them looked as tired as she felt, as if they had all rushed here as soon as they got the news.
“How much has been released?” Chloe set her laptop and notes on the table while everyone took their seats. “How did it get out?”
“It seems that one of the interns sent some of the files to the wrong person, and the media got their hands on it. So far, it’s been reported by most major political bloggers, including the Ladyblog. They only got some basic information that confirms the mayor is corrupt, but they don’t know how far it goes.”
Chloe nodded. “It won’t take long for people to start asking questions. What are our options?”
Another person from across the table spun their laptop around. “There are a couple of angles we can take. If you want to continue with the anti-corruption platform we were going to use, we have a press release written denouncing the current mayor and promising an investigation into his actions. If we go with this one, we’ll have to move quickly before anyone else can dig up more information.”
“How long will it take for people to work out that we know more?”
“Not long. A day or two, if we’re lucky. Andre and his government covered their tracks fairly well, but we still managed to stumble upon it. Someone looking in the right places would find it without trouble.” The private investigator she had hired months ago projected some images onto the screen at the front of the room. Different pictures of Andre began popping up, including a few that Chloe had never seen before. The mayor had clearly been having a good time recently. “We’re only a few hours away from the early morning news reports, and blogs can be updated anytime.”
“So, we need to get my statement out there as quickly as possible.” Chloe tapped her fingers on the table, her nails making clicking noises against the wood as she thought her options over. “Go with the anti-corruption angle. We need to get a press conference organised to make sure it gets onto the news.”
“What about your father?” There was silence around the room as Chloe’s team waited for her to react to Andre being referred to as her father.
“If Andre is still following the same schedule he did when I was a teenager, he won’t hear any news until mid-morning. He’s the last thing we have to worry about right now.” Chloe stood up again, adjourning the meeting. She looked over at her media liaison. “Get as many journalists together as you can in the next few hours for the press conference. This may not be the ideal situation for this information to be released, but we need to take this chance while we have it. Inaction will harm our reputation. Thank you all for being here.”
Chloe picked up her laptop and strode out of the room. As she waited for the elevator, she called her hair and makeup team. While she preferred to make public appearances on more than a few hours of sleep, this could be a turning point in their campaign. Andre’s actions were catching up with him, and the promise of an investigation could sway the majority to their side. If they continued to slowly release the information they knew over the coming months, it was unlikely that Andre’s reputation would survive until the election. The more the public found out, the more his chances of re-election dropped. With the right timing, Chloe was basically guaranteed the mayor’s office. She could almost walk right in.
---
A few hours later, Chloe sat in her office, watching as news articles about her press conference slowly rolled in. As predicted, her father hadn’t done anything about the news. She doubted her had even heard about it yet. It was still barely seven in the morning. He wouldn’t learn about anything for hours.
There was still much to be done. She had another meeting with her team scheduled for the morning to plan the slow release of information about the rest of her father’s corruption. Financial documents would be leaked, secret emails would arrive in journalists’ inboxes, phone call recordings would be posted online, and more press conferences would be held to assure the public that Chloe Bourgeois would get to the bottom of this. Sure, Andre would end up in jail, but what else would he expect after all the tax evasion, bribery, and embezzlement? There were no other options left. He had brought this upon himself.
Chloe sighed. She wished her life had turned out differently, but by the time she was born, the wheels were already in motion. When she found out about all of her father’s crimes at the end of high school, it was far too late to turn back the clock.
An alert dinged on Chloe’s computer. Alya Cesaire had arrived for their meeting. It had been set up so Chloe could double down on her promise to crack down on corruption. Speaking to the blog that had successfully pivoted from reporting on the latest superhero news to additional political reporting, as well as one of the largest blogs in the city, would ensure that as many people are possible saw her promises to fight corruption inside the government. Her entire image was built around being dedicated to doing right by the people of Paris, no matter what, even if it involved locking her own family behind bars in the process.
---
While Chloe knew that her father wasn’t happy with her running for mayor against him, he hadn’t said anything about it. She didn’t really care. If anything, she was used to it. Andre had never been the most interested parent, happily thinking that following every demand Chloe had meant he was being a good father. Somewhere in the last few years, that willingness to do whatever she asked at the drop of a hat had disappeared.
That meant it was quite a surprise when he stormed into her office at noon that day. His assistant followed behind him, ever dutiful, even as Andre raged. “I tolerated your little campaign for far longer than I should have! I thought it was only a passing fancy, but this,” he gestured to the tablet his assistant was holding and the news articles it displayed, “this has gone far enough!”
“Hello, Andre. I’m glad you found your way here. I wasn’t sure you even knew where my office was.” She wasn’t going to sink to his level. They were both adults, and allowing a conversation to devolve into a shouting match because Andre couldn’t see what was under his nose was a waste of her time. “How can I help you?”
“Stop playing around. I know your campaign is just some teenage rebellion, and I am willing to forgive you.”
“I know you’ve missed a lot of important moments in my life recently, but I’m in my mid-twenties. My rebellious teen years ended years ago. All of the decisions I’ve been making are ones that are the best for me and the best for Paris.”
Andre’s face reddened more and more with each word. Chloe didn’t let it bother her, continuing with her speech. “I know what you’ve been up to. I have all the records of the money you’ve been stealing from the city, all the bribes you’ve been paying to keep people quiet, and all the secret phone calls you’ve been having. If anyone is going to be ending their campaign, it’s going to be you.”
“You don’t know who you’re up against.”
“I do, actually.” Chloe stood up from her desk. “I grew up with you. I know everything you’ve been up to since you were first elected. You don’t know who you’re up against. I think you should leave before you embarrass yourself further.”
“How dare you?” Andre was shouting now, his voice echoing out into the hallway and attracting the attention of the people outside. “You would never last a day in this job! You don’t understand what it takes to be the mayor of Paris!”
“It’s time for you to leave; otherwise, I’ll call security and have you escorted from the building. How much more damage can your reputation take? I don’t mind finding out. What about you?”
“You are not the daughter I raised. I did everything for you, gave you everything that you wanted, yet this is how you repay me? I should have known you would turn out like your mother. An ungrateful brat.”
Chloe left the door ajar and walked back to her desk, pressing the call button on the intercom. The security team answered immediately. “Please send security to my office to remove the mayor from the premises.”
“They’re on their way, Miss Bourgeois.”
“Thank you.”
Chloe and Andre stood in silence as they waited for security. Andre seemed to think he could intimidate her into following his orders, but it wasn’t going to work. Maybe if she was a decade younger, or her father didn’t look like he had aged decades in just a few years, but that wasn’t the case. He wasn’t going to intimidate her.
Two security guards walked into the office. “Mayor Bourgeois, if you could come with us, please.”
“This isn’t the end.”
“No, the end will be when I win the election. Goodbye, Andre.”
Andre and his assistant were escorted out by the guards, Andre still fuming. Chloe could hear cameras clicking outside and could only imagine the work that was going to pile up after this incident. The whole thing only solidified Chloe’s belief that Andre was no longer fit to run Paris and needed to be removed from power at the next election. She pressed the call button on her intercom again. When her assistant answered, Chloe asked, “Please schedule another meeting this afternoon. We need to start releasing more evidence. Thanks.”
Andre was going down. And she was going to be the one to make sure his political career came to an end.

Mc!Monday
this was actually hard. i thought about what kind of rumor would fit. Also tumblr ffs let me edit my bloody wips!
as always the challenge is by @obeythedemons
prompt: Uhoh! There’s a rumor going around at RAD about MC! What is it? How do they react?
Tags: Asmo+satan+icrus being the agents of gossip, meantions of anxiety, mentions of social anxiety
Tumblr media
GIF von haruhi-takehaya
Why is everyone watching me.., Icarus thought slightly panicked to himself chancing his experience to his typical 'Germans never Smile' expression which pretty much is just the meanest resting bitch face he had. As his heart quickened he started to walk faster and with more purpose scanning the faces he walked past. If he couldn't understand what was going on he knew his best bet was to ask Asmodeus who somehow always knew the newest tea of RAD even before the news club. Target spotted. Hopefully he knows what is going on!, Icarus pretty much power walked his way over to the pretty strawberry blonde. "Move. I have to talk to my housemate about something that Lord Lucifer has.", Icarus growled annoyed to demons standing in his way which stepped to side at the bare mention of the Avatar of Pride. Seeing the short lilanette finally Asmo beamed "Sweetheart! You look amazing today! That new Cardigan truly fits your comfy aesthetic-!" Meanwhile the halfdemon took Asmos hand and started to drag him slightly after him. "Imma have to steal you real quick, Asmo."
As soon as they where in a quick corridor Icarus let go of the Avatars hand and started to show his true anxious self, not needing his useful but uncomfortable mask anymore. "Everyone is staring at me and whispering something. Icouldn't hear what exactly they are saying but they look almost disgusted at me after. Do you know what's going on, Asmo? You usually know all the newest rumors..", Icarus began rambling while he walked up and down the hallway. He picked at his nail polish to avoid scratching his now itching hands. Asmo stood there, pretty as always and thought about what was told "I can't remember anything being rumored about you, Ruru..Do the others know already or am I the first you told?", Asmo sighed. The shorter shook his head. "Maybe we should find Satan and ask him. He is friends with that Journalist Mephistopheles! He surely knows what's going on!" "Okay..Do you know Satan's schedule? Because i don't anymore since it changed..",the exchange student confessed. Giggling Asmo took his hand and dragged him slightly now. "Of course I know!"
Tumblr media
Being short, standing only at 5'2, and having since childhood always had to power walk to keep up with his peers, Icarus was fast and incredibly good at navigating through dense mobs of people without being detected. Thanks to that tho Asmo had a hard time following his pacted master. The Lust demon tried his best to keep up with him nevertheless and was only a few meters behind the shorter which threw open the door to the library.
Icarus meanwhile took a deep breath before screaming for his warthful friend "Tantan!! Where the fuck are you?? I need your Help!" He did earn quite a few dirty looks and calls to keep quiet but he couldn't care less in that moment. Icarus was feeling a lot of things and just wants to get to the bottom of the rumor so he can self study in peace.
Satan quickly walked to the lilanette from what seems like a murder mystery section. "What happened, Icarus? You look paler then usually." "Someone seemed to be spreading a rumor about me. Have you heard anything? Because Asmo has not heard of it but im getting dirty looks." "Mephistopheles mentioned he heard something he wants to investigate. Something about you plotting to overthrow Diavolo because your following Micheals commands that you get from Simeon.", Satan laughed a bit about the absurity of the rumor, "Most likely someone that dislikes you and tries to get you in trouble with the fact you always are at Purgatory Hall when we have to do stuff and cant take you with us." Icarus was annoyed and huffed "Really? Because of that? Are they dumb? Who started the rumor anyways?" Now Asmo chimed in, hugging the lilanette from behind to comfort him a bit "It looks like it was Belias. Why?" The lilanette smiled, way too pleasantly for both avatars, sending a chill down their spines "Yall know I fight fire with fire. How about we start our own rumors about him and beat him at his own game~?"
Tumblr media
Using Asmos influence, Satans contacts and Icaruss' never ending petty creativity the three of them spread a simple but effective rumor: Belias is trying to defame Icarus name because he is jealous of the young demon duke as he gets so much affection and attention of Solomon and Lucifer, aka Belias pacted master and his Idol. It worked wonders and turned the student body and quite a bit of the devildom in generell against Belias, It was natural that happened as the rumor was directly spread from Asmo, another pacted demon of Solomon and brother of Lucifer as well as Satan who was remarked as a trustworthy source. Even Mephistopheles joined the three agents of gossip and spreaded the rumor through the newsletter club. Icarus, being the theater kid that he is, pretended to be hurt and sad about Belias trying to frame him as some villain when all he did was spending time with another exchange student and gettig along with the master of the dorm he lives in. You know, normal things he does to help his big brother archive his dream of harmony between the realms. In the end the rumor they spread won and Icarus could walk around RAD again with no dirty looks or whispers about him in the halls. As thanks he invited the three demons that helped him to Restorante Six, having earned enough money at the tower to treat them without worries of the bill.

Saturday Morning Coffee
Good morning from Charlottesville, Virginia! ☕️
Tumblr media
We’re expecting a snow and sleet event this morning. As I was composing this post it started raining around 6:30AM and it’s below freezing. Here’s hoping we don’t lose power and have frozen roads later. 🥶

I hope you enjoy the links.

President Joe Biden will stress democracy is still a ‘sacred cause’ in a speech near Valley Forge
If TFG wins we may become an authoritarian nation. Kiss freedoms we’ve come to expect — like the horrible reversal of Roe v. Wade — to become the norm. I’d expect to see jailed political rivals and journalists. The Justice Department and Military will become law enforcement. With the law being his Orangeness.
No thank you.

On Tuesday, I told subscribers that we are considering leaving the platform based on the company’s recent statement that it would not demonetize or remove openly Nazi accounts.
Bravo Casey! I wasn’t planning on linking to any Substack content but I had to break that rule for this piece. Casey is planning on doing something about Substack’s horrible position by, potentially, taking his publication and subscribers elsewhere. That’s very brave given it’s how he makes his living! ❤️
Now, if we can get other writers to follow that would be amazing.

Our world has become such a mess the tragedy unfolding in Japan doesn’t even register as big news, at least that’s how it feels to me.

I thought I’d be sharing photos of pintxos and more Basque lettering from Donostia-San Sebastián, and diving into our early experiences of living abroad.
My friend Ashur had planned a big adventure that didn’t quite work out as planned. It’s a worthwhile read and proves things don’t always go as planned.
David McCabe and Tripp Mickle • The New York Times
The Justice Department is in the late stages of an investigation into Apple and could file a sweeping antitrust case taking aim at the company’s strategies to protect the dominance of the iPhone as soon as the first half of this year, said three people with knowledge of the matter.
Some of the things the Justice Department are interested in seen really strange to me. Like allowing access to the Messages Service. Why should Google, or whoever else, be given the keys to access Messages backend services? Apple created and runs that service. It’s not built on a free to use, government backed, open-to-the-public utility. It’s paid for and maintained by Apple.
Tumblr media
Now, if by access the government means Apple has to open it up as a paid service, I could see that. Perhaps Google agrees to take on some of the cost burden, based on usage, or pay Apple some huge fee so Android users have full access to Messages with a native messaging app built by Google. That wouldn’t be so bad. Another alternative is for Apple to build a Messages app for Android and sell access to the service as a monthly subscription. Hey, Apple, that means more service revenue! 😁
The whole App Store payment kerfuffle is something a lot of developers would like to see changed. I think most developers don’t want to pay Apple 15-30% of their potential revenue. That can be a lot of cheese for many Indie developers. There are some things Apple could change to help the situation, like allowing developers to actually tell users to visit their website to sign up or subscribe to their service. E.G. Amazon and Netflix cannot tell new users, through their app UI, to visit their website to get started. For a company who prides themselves on simplicity and great user experience sure do make it difficult for third-party apps to be easy to use.
Anywho, I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for the Justice Department taking action against Apple and fallout from it.
Dave Winer • Scripting News
So at the beginning of a new year, I’m going to remind myself that I’m too old and not paid well enough (I’m not paid at all, heh) to do another year of this kind of work. I should be making writing and reading tools work better on the web. That’s my mission.
Dave has been an innovator all his adult life. Whether it was scripting on the Mac and Windows or creating widely used technology like RSS and podcasting. Since he sold weblogs.com and left UserLand he’s continued to build writing tools of various kinds. His latest venture is FeedLand. It’s a feed reader and more. I can personally see it as a mechanism to follow and find excellent podcasts for a podcast player. Yes, it has an API that could be used for such things and it has full search capability. Bet you didn’t see that use case coming!
Anywho, I hope you get some rest, Dave, and have a wonderful 2024 making the web a better place for writers.
Keep digging!
Tim Kellogg
Back in the ’00s you would download a feed reader and subscribe to feeds. This felt a lot like an early version of social media. Google Reader was killed in 2013, which was largely seen as the death of RSS. I think social media generally replaced RSS because it took far fewer technical skills to setup a Facebook account versus an RSS-enabled blog.
This is interesting because it uses Mastodon as a feed reader. That’s not a bad idea, really. It’s such a good idea to have a timeline based reader I made one! 😁
All the stuff Tim says about Facebook and other social media platforms is 100% accurate. Those platforms stood in for blogs because of their low barrier to entry. Quite honestly I’m surprised Facebook never embraced blogging as a true feature of its platform, complete with all the expected bells and whistles, and that includes RSS and posts that don’t require a Facebook login to read them.
Anil Dash
Well, things changed a little bit in tech of late. Often, the power shifts in the tech world because of a dramatic new invention that solves an old problem a whole lot better. But in the current era, when most of what’s getting funded and hyped up are just various attempts to undermine workers and control consumers, we’re instead seeing lots of major players lose power because their signature offerings have gotten so much worse.
There was a time, not that long ago, folks said things like “RSS is dead” or asked “Is RSS dead?” First off, it’s just a technology, so it can’t actually die. Second, its web fabric and has been since its inception. It’s boring stuff — this is not a dig or insult, it’s a compliment. It’s as boring as HTML or CSS. I’d imagine it’s been used for all sorts of stuff beyond blogs over its history and it’ll probably be around for as long as we have a web to browse.
Sure social media, or microblogging, took center stage for a while. My own blogging slowed for a long period of time because I started posting little blurbs of text to Twitter instead of my blog.
Now I do that with a combination of Mastodon and Micro.blog. Short posts go to Mastodon and Micro.blog and long posts, like this one, go to my blog with a link on many services including Mastodon, Micro.blog, Blue Sky, and Tumblr.
My blog is at the center. It’s my content, I own it.
Matt Birchler
Here’s an uncomfortable question: when do I stop blogging?
I always find this question odd. I figure I’ll stop when, or if, I just stop one day. I suppose folks who do it professionally have to think about stuff like this, especially if they have subscribers and/or advertisers.
Maybe when the day comes that you’d like to stop doing it for a living you just let folks know you’re going to blog about whatever you’d like and do it for fun?
I’ve been blogging since February 2001 and still love it.

The iPhone is the device that pushed the mobile industry away from physical keyboards, but nothing can truly replace that tactile experience. Launching next month, “Clicks” aims to add a physical keyboard to your iPhone with support for keyboard shortcuts and backlighting too.
In 2013 Ryan Seacrest was part of an effort to bring a physical keyboard to the iPhone. It was called Typo and I never heard much about it beyond the initial announcement. I could’ve sworn it was earlier than 2013, but my memory sometimes fails me.
Anyway, I hope these folks are wildly successful. Good luck y’all!

The best holiday gift was Mac losing out to Windows, at least according to these stats
It’s obvious some Windows users and pundits still have an inferiority complex when it comes to the Mac. It’s surprising.
I’m an old, long time, Windows developer and I owe a lot to the platform. I spent around 20 years writing code for Windows and I still believe it to be an amazing platform for users and developers. But I switched to the Mac full time in 2006 and have grown to enjoy it every bit as much as Windows.
It’s perfectly fine to love using a different operating system or prefer coding for one over the other. Let people have fun and enjoy what they love doing. ❤️

Okay, I'm facing a bit of trouble with my Reverse Sherlock OCs. The ones who are middle aged women instead of men and also rivals to my pre-existing murder mystery investigator duo, although I have since decided they also work together sometimes. I hope that's enough info to remember which ones I mean. Anyway.
Because I just put them into a universe I already had, they are not in the late 1800s, it's actually modern day urban fantasy (but with public knowledge of magic and such (tho the fae are thought to be extinct but later turn out to just be in hiding cuz humans suck and waged a war on them for being "too powerful" despite them being peaceful) but magic is less convenient than technology so it's used less and less) and like. I know they're technically my OCs but I also wanna stay somewhat true to your vision. So here's my options:
1) set it in late 1800s urban fantasy instead. This is still a possibility since the plot isn't reliant on the modern setting and the most modern technology I will definitely include is a telephone and in fact some points might even make more sense if they can't just google shit or text each other. I'm also planning to have the MC's washing machine be broken so he always uses the laundromat but that's just one of the points to make him more skrunkly so I can just cut it. There's also some other more modern ideas/terms in there, eg the MC is vegan and his assistant/best friend is a she/they, but I could probably handwave that. Trouble is: I really don't like doing historical research and I know so little I'd have to do a LOT of research. So while this would probably make the most sense, it's also the least pleasant for me.
2) make modern day more 1800s. Eg I could include a lot more homophobia and possibly take away some technology (which I could easily explain with "since they had access to magic, developing technology was less of a priority") and it would possibly make sense to include more racism in that scenario as well but since I'm white I don't feel comfortable doing that and also I already made the reverse Sherlock ladies interracial so that would create an additional aspect of the dynamic that wasn't there before. Downsides would be I'd have to write in stuff that's pretty uncomfortable and also what's the point of a modern setting if it doesn't even feel like a modern setting?
3) have them be time travellers. Then the two of them would be from the late 1800s but everything else would stay the same. Could make their story too big for their narrative role tho and also then I'd have to invent new time travel logic since the one from another universe of mine (my only one that currently has time travel) only works for going to the past one-way (and trips that far wouldn't be possible anyway, long story) so it can't possibly be applied here. And then ofc there's the possible plot complications that come with having time travel exist at all. Plus, magic isn't supposed to be super powerful in this universe, not even fae magic should be that powerful. And I'm not making it sci-fi, too, that's Too Much I think.
I'm also open to other suggestions from both you and the audience, or I could just. Not do any of them. Like, they're still gonna be obsessed with each other and the investigative journalist (whom I chose to faceclaim as Yvette Nicole Brown bc I loved her in Community and I think she'd do a very good job at it) is charming, confident, brilliant at detective work, writes riveting articles full of wit and clever insight (without being condescending) etc while her assistant (whom I actually faceclaimed from a middle aged mutual of mine but don't tell her, in my defense I did it cuz she's pretty) is an incompetent herbo (I haven't figured out her drug(s) of choice yet but I will) whom she keeps around at first out of charity and then out of gay.
(Also, I'd like to note that herbo assistant (I haven't named the two of them yet, sorry) isn't obsessed with competent journalist because of her work (she's actually pretty disinterested in it when they first meet, she just "has to" (at first temporarily) work for her, I'll figure out the details of why) or even her more "conventionally attractive" qualities like being smart, funny, charismatic etc but rather because she is one of very few people to see her for the deranged, risk-taking adrenaline junkie that she is which is also why Yvette's character is so obsessed with her in return.)
So I do think I kept the spirit of them, but it's still your idea originally and I wanna pay homage to that so here I am, asking for your thoughts. Sorry for the long read! Love you <3
AHHH all of these sound really good but i think i'd go with 2), I'm always a huge fan of stories that try to explore how the supernatural elements in the world would change the way technology and society develops, i think that's the coolest shit ever... also idk i understand being uncomfortable with including/amping up racism, and like... i don't think you need to if u don't want to yknow? like idk the history of bigotry irl is very complicated and this is your world you can easily say some shit likem supernatural creatures existing meant ppl were less hateful towards each other and more hateful towards them or something, a lot of fantasy settings do that, Carnival Row comes to mind rn. or you can just not address it at all and make it a racism free au or have it be about as bad as it is rn.... i think you should write what you're comfortable with n like, i think it's fine when the social dynamics of a fantasy settings arent explained yknow like i dont think it's inherently a bad thing or a plothole
also another thing is i think nr 2) is the one that allows you the most freedom in that like. having a very different world with different technology means you can just make shit up instead of having to research the 1800s/time travel/even modern technology honestly, plus yea time travel would definitely fuck with a lot of things...bbut i dont KNOWW i think all 3 options are good im just very drawn to the second one
but also they're your little guys i'm just sitting next to your sandbox you don't need my permission dont worry jfjeifjdifjd<33

The Parallax View (1974)

Free filmmaking advice: don’t kick off your film by yeeting someone off the Space Needle.  For one thing, it’s probably a lot harder to pull off now with the new setup to the observation deck.  For another, how are you going to top that for sheer excitement?  Opening with a literal bang as a senator is assassinated while visiting Seattle, journalist and witness Joseph Frady becomes plunged into a dark world of conspiracy and secrecy.  Everyone present at the killing suddenly has a much shorter lifespan, and soon enough the mounting coincidences are too much for even him to handle.  Frady’s editor accuses him of being a two-bit reporter, but if nothing else he certainly has gumption and resolve.  To an extent, his investigation is detrimental to those around him—two witnesses are killed through his presence or inaction, and he offs at least one of those attempting to do the same to him.  But despite it all, he manages to make it to the heart of it all: the shadowy Parallax Corporation.  In some regards, he seems to be able to pull one over on these “human engineers.”  He passes both tests, one through guile and the other seemingly through his subliminal self.  He becomes close to his handler with Parallax, Jack Younger, and even manages to thwart an assassination attempt.  In some cases, he manages to pull of an act, behaving aggressively around Jack to seem antisocial.  But he’s still an impostor and an outsider in this world.  When Joseph stalks the Parallax assassin into the convention center where another doomed candidate will give a speech, we watch both characters ascend an escalator.  The assassin remains still, controlled and cool, an apex predator assured in his supremacy.  Joseph begins the ascent in a similar fashion, but even by halfway up he’s fidgeting and shifting, climbing steps when he could stand still.  How thoroughly did he really pull the wool over their eyes?  He may think he’s the sheep in wolf’s clothing, but he was still perfectly set up to play the patsy when another undesirable candidate bites the dust, caught in the rafters near a sniper rifle while the dead man careens ignominiously into a set of tables on his golf cart.
Yet despite the corporate dressing of the killings, this is a very political game being played.  Director Alan J Pakula makes an interesting and very intentional choice in directly brainwashing the audience through the Parallax screen test sequence.  After the lights fade on Frady in his chair, we the viewer are directly shown the same thing he sees, allowed to respond to it in whatever way we might.  The frenzy of images creates such paradoxes as to break the mind and draw out a rage response: Is America powerful or dying?  Is racism bad or good?  Are lovers sensual or depraved?  Is my father a protector or an abuser?  Is mother nurturing or feeble?  I am Thor, an Übermensch, and I am all that stands between good and evil to protect this country.  But at the same time, these images are elemental.  The film opens on a wonderful shot visually paralleling a First Nations totem pole with the Space Needle, suggesting we have always felt a compulsion to build monuments, no matter the culture.  And the images of presidents—Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington—are present in both the Parallax “orientation” video and the campy college card display at Sen Hammond’s rally.  These men are, among many other things, symbols, and symbols can be used in many ways, to many paradoxical ends.  We are all exposed to propaganda in some form.  Nobody is immune.  The film’s score knows this too, building a baseline of placidly reverential patriotic trumpets but inflecting this security with paranoiac stings.  Is the government aware of the cabal killing off select candidates?  In their Kafkaesque panel, the committee investigating these assures the public of their tireless efforts to uncover all evidence (available eventually, of course), but be certain that there are no conspiracies afoot.  There will be no questions.  Go back to your shiny cards and marching bands.
