Girlie (gn) you hate Maeve? You have good taste I see, I fucking hated her (well strongly disliked but still) mary sue is such a perfect term, she was just boring and I feel Spencer felt so wet and weepy with her
i don't hate maeve so much as i hate the maeve plotline! i think strongly dislike is a really good phrase to use when talking about my feelings towards maeve's character.
as a character, she's super flat and one dimensional. i think she and spencer were "together" for eight months(?) and the episode where you learn the most about her is the one where she fucking dies. i've spent all day thinking about this and im beginning to think that part of the reason why she is a mary sue is that spencer tends to put people he cares about on pedestals and ignores their flaws.
and youre like "what flaws does she have if you barely know anything about her" and okay i'll tell you:
b-12 and magnesium as a treatment for migraines is fucking insane. i'm not saying it couldn't work, but all through season 6 (re: 6x12 "corazon") spencer is seeing doctors and anyone who has ever dealt with a fuckass chronic disease/illness will tell you that a blood panel like that would be one of the first steps in reaching a diagnosis!!!
why on god's green earth would you have a stalker, be dating an fbi agent, and not let your fbi agent boyfriend help you? i have been stalked before!!!! it's not fun!!!!! i'd take all the help i could've gotten at the time. this has always rubbed me the wrong way because oh my god the solution was right there the whole time. he could have protected you! he would have protected you!
i know they weren't technically doctor/patient but there is still some weird power dynamic in their relationship that gives me the ick. other than they're smart and they read, they really dont have much in common.
their relationship to me is equivalent to the girl i dated online after we met through percy jackson fan accounts. i.e. not really a relationship. most of their interaction was off screen and i think that did a huge detriment to the plot.
in the end, i think the maeve storyline and 8x12 "zugzwang" is a hard watch. i can't take it seriously. i'd skip it, but then i'd miss so much blake content (and hotch looks so good in that episode sorry spencer) (not into the fuckass bob in season 8). at the same time, i know it was like... mgg's idea and i'm pretty sure he's friends with beth riesgraf. (he loves to traumatize himself idk). but the whole thing gets messier when you think about the implications left by 14x15 "truth or dare" and the abhorrent jeid plot in season 15 where it's insinuated that spencer has been in love with jj for fifteen years (zoinks) and it's like what about maeve??? i don't know man (gn) i could go on for hours about this
that being said, i see a lot of people not liking the actress who plays maeve. i am telling you that it had to have been the writing or the directing in the episodes because beth riesgraf is incredible. she played a character named parker in the tv show leverage (one of my favorite tv shows of all time) and let me tell you That Is Her Role.
jesus this was long i had more to say than i thought sorry thank you anon

Mori Ougai (I just want to talk about him)
Guys, I've been thinking a lot lately about Mori and his Beast counterpart. I really, really, really love Beast Mori and everything that he represents. He's not just the "good Mori." In my eyes, and others as well, he represents Mori's humanity (side note: I'm not saying Mori is secretly a hero or something) and what main story Mori could've been if he wasn't in the mafia.
I also just want to talk about Mori in general because he's actually very fascinating and more complex than some make him seem.
Just hear me out, ok?
Also, shoutout to @hopefull-mindset. Their analyses on BSD have been very interesting and definitely have given me a different perspective on Mori and helped me understand Beast Mori so much more.
Anyways, these are just a pile of thoughts I have on Mori as I began to understand him more. Please note: these are my personal thoughts gathered through lots of analyses digging and reflection on his character. If you dislike Mori, that is completely valid.
Understanding Beast Mori
When I first read Beast, I was so confused. How could Mori be so different when every other character had basically the same personality? Mori in the main story is cruel, cold, and manipulative. Yes, he is very pragmatic and smart, but that doesn't take away from his bad qualities. However, the more I dug deeper into the mystery of Beast Mori, the more things started to make sense. The Mori we meet in Beast is still the same Mori from the main story. And for those who question that, look at Beast Aku and Beast Atsushi. They may have swapped organizations but their fundamental traits are still the same. Atsushi, PM or ADA, still has major guilt and self-worth issues that stem from the Orphanage Director. Aku is the same. Even if he is in the ADA, he still has his intense bloodlust and determination.
So, why is Mori different? As @hopefull-mindset has pointed out in one of their posts, he's in a different environment. There are no negative influences or stressors unlike the mafia. Also, he's working with children. Children often represent innocence and positive emotions. Mori, surprisingly, is really good with kids because we the see the orphanage thrive in his care. It makes perfect sense that Mori, who likes kids (and not in the creepy way), would learn to become a more caring figure. In the main story, Mori is often presented as a necessary evil; he's the dark to Fukuzawa's light. But now that Dazai replaced him, Mori can act without always making the optimal solution at the cost of anyone that gets in its way, himself included.
Honestly, I think Beast Mori does humanize him. It doesn't erase the wrongs he did (and believe me, I haven't forgotten), but it does show you a different perspective. Beast shows us that Mori has complexities. He's not just an evil monster for the heroes to overcome. There's more to him than that.
Note: I am not saying any of his actions towards Yosano, Dazai, or any other character are justified. He hurt them emotionally and psychologically. It wasn't fun to watch or read. Saying Mori is more than a one dimensional villain doesn't take away from the bad things he did. I'm just trying to offer a different perspective because Beast Mori is that interesting, at least to me.
Elise
I've never been able to fully reconcile with this aspect of Mori. It is weird. It is uncomfortable. It is perplexing. Elise to an extent, is Mori. She is a part of him manifested and can act on her own. And I get the controversy behind it; it's not normal. That being said, never have we seen Mori in either the manga or the anime act in that nature towards her or even Yosano. He makes weird comments about Elise, sure, but nothing super explicit. At most, they're treated as weird jokes. And, for the record, that doesn't make them ok or any better. I won't argue back and forth on this topic because it's a difficult subject.
However, I don't believe he is actually a *you know what* because of Beast Mori's entire existence. Riddle me this, why would Asagiri-sensei write a character as a *you know what* and then have his counterpart work at an orphanage full of children? That, at least to me, crosses a moral line. It makes it even more weird and uncomfortable. Also, idk about y'all, but I wouldn't find it fun or quirky if someone portrayed a very famous and beloved author as a perverted creep, just saying.
So, where did Elise even come from then? Well, she's a companion to Mori in many ways. He's rarely seen without her. Mori's backstory is a mystery to us. My honest theory is that Elise manifested as a companion for Mori because he was in a really bad spot. Either he was abused in some shape or form or was very isolated and alone. We know that Mori's had her since the Great War. He was 26 at that time. That's still fairly young so I think it's safe to say he's had her since he was a child or a teenager. Of course, I could be wrong. But based off what we know about abilities so far, I think it's safe to say that Elise didn't manifest without reason.
The Optimal Solution
Going into more speculation about Mori's backstory, I have so many questions. Mori essentially has the same big question as Kunikida for me: when and why did he decide to follow the optimal solution. For Kunikida, it's his ideals. Both characters stick so adamantly to their beliefs that it leads to conflict externally and internally. Mori's optimal solution is the reason why Yosano was traumatized.
It just got me thinking, when did he develop this line of thought? After all, a kid who grew up with an average life usually doesn't worry about the "optimal solution." Between this and Elise, I strongly believe he came from a dysfunctional home. It would certainly explain why he tells Dazai that the latter reminds him of himself. Mori is very good at repressing his emotions; he's hard to read which makes him dangerous. He likes to take advantage of situations and manipulate them to his will, or whatever he deems to be the optimal solution. The battle with Fukuzawa during the Cannibalism arc is a good example of this. Mori knew he couldn't win so he decided to get Fukuzawa to let his guard down enough to strike. In my area of study at school, the home life of a person can be very telling as to why someone may act in a certain way. Mori coming from a rough home without love seems pretty plausible to me.
Mori is a very well-written character with a lot of complexities that tend to get overlooked. Why does he do what do? At what point did he decide to follow his optimal solution? It's such an interesting question because it affects so many characters and situations.
Conclusion
If y'all got this far, congrats! I hope that people will take the time to look deeper at his character. You don't have to like Mori. I'm just tired of people portraying him as something he's not. I also don't want fans harassing other fans because they like Mori. And I'll admit it, I was so quick to judge both him and Francis. Had I kept up my shield and continued to shoot unwarranted hatred at them, I wouldn't have appreciated their characters as I do now.
And yes, I do overhate on Fyodor (mainly bc the man is cockroach and he hurt Kunikida). I get it. However, I know Fyodor is a deeply complex character. His way of thinking is actually quite fascinating and I have so many questions about him. I don't like Fyodor, but I'm not gonna let my personal grievances stop others from enjoying him.

Hiiii it's me again!
I just wrapped up a full-on binge of your series with Homelander and Layla, and honestly, I've got to get a few things off my chest about these two. I'll try to keep this short, but there's a lot to unpack, and if you're not up for the essay I'm about to write here, feel free to skip it. Starting with Layla's profession — genius. It just clicks, right? With a job like hers, it's totally believable that she'd cross paths with a guy like Homelander. That guy's desperate for any scrap of affection he can get, doesn't really matter if it's genuine or not. And in your story, it feels like we get a dash of both. It's refreshing because usually, OCs just snap their fingers and suddenly, Homelander's all about them, which feels a tad forced.
But Layla? She's different. Their first serious meet-up perfectly demonstrates her patience. And her smarts? She's ten steps ahead, seeing right through Homelander's act — you know the one where he pretends he's too cool for the room. Her ability to play him like a fiddle from the get-go, just by stroking his ego, is just so spot on. It's not just her cunning that stands out, though. Layla knows exactly when to use emotional leverage, she's insightful about Homelander's neediness, hence the booked meeting. She's not your typical 'strong woman' character — thank goodness we're not talking about those overdone, one-dimensional types that come off as watered-down male heroes. Love that she's profoundly intelligent, perceptive, and strategic in her emotional connections. She's an exemplary character not wedged into the role of being “strong” but one who utilizes her understanding and empathy as powerful tools.
I'm sold on her character (if you can't tell.) And I'm really going all out here because as I revisit the first chapters to talk about this, I keep finding new reasons to appreciate her more. I want to dive deeper into my thoughts, but I'm probably just rambling now, so I'll cut myself off. You've single handedly got me working on my personal oc again lmfao. Just a last note, it's cool to see an original character who isn't some superpowered being for a change. It adds layers to the world you've built that I'm just here for. I'm gonna read a few other fics you have linked about your ocs — I came for the x reader fics and stayed for the ocs LOL.
— 💌
you genuinely took my breath away with this! my heart is so full and warm, i could cry. i can't tell you how many times i reread this this morning! i'm very tender-hearted when it comes to my original characters, and i was quite nervous starting an oc fic, but this makes me SO happy that i did!
please don't ever apologize for writing essays like this, i honestly want to print this out and hang it on my wall. thank you SO MUCH for not only reading my fic but taking the time to send me such an incredibly thoughtful message about my girl Layla. it really does mean the world to me!!! and i really can't wait to get back to writing Eat Your Ego.
i'm really happy that she's coming across so well! i knew that i would have to be careful in how i wrote her for the fact that she IS human, and there's a very delicate balance to be had in interacting with Homelander. there's a tension there that yeah, one wrong move and she really and truly has no defense against him aside from her wits, so i needed her empathy and intellect to be sort of a super power of their own.
i was worried she would come across as omniscient or meta, so i tried to lean into the fact that Homelander's ego and power trips really do just have him behaving like the type of men she would regularly encounter in her line of work.
aaahhh, gosh, even responding to this i reread it a whole bunch. thank you so much, darling. i'm going to treasure this message! 🖤

“Send me a character”, for any of the Broflovski’s?
My time has come
Sorry not sorry Anon, I'm doing all of the (main) Broflovski's, I may never have this chance again
Starting from oldest to youngest:
GERALD
First impression First saw him in the FBW games, was wondering why this naked man was huffing cat piss and acting like a little bitch
Impression now Babygirl man, one of my faves, so underappreciated, still a little bitch tho lol
Favorite moment Sosososoooo many it's either him getting super into trolling in 20x02 or when he's cheesing and runs into the boob lady and goes "curse your rocking tits". Or the entire hot tub scene. Or when he smashes the tv playing family guy. Or-
Idea for a story I have so many, but would love anything that explores his youth or him and Sheila's relationship before marriage/having kids
Unpopular opinion Some people are too hard on him and are way more ready to declare him a bad dad instead of making him a fully rounded parent. Also I don't like when people divorce him and Sheila, I love them together. Which leads to...
Favorite relationship Love love love him with Sheila, they're my favorite parent relationship and so 3 dimensional. I also like when he's actually being a good dad to Ike or Kyle. Also also StuartxGerald is way more interesting than RandyxGerald
Favorite headcanon Genuinely have no idea, I like the idea that the reason for him being Skankhunt was because he was high on memberberry wine or something lol
Sheila
First impression From the movie and the games as first impressions, she sure is a bitch I guess
Impression now She has done literally nothing wrong ever in her entire life and is so hot
Favorite moment The entire movie and the boss fight in TFBW. In show, the UPS man scene (U///U)
Idea for a story Just like with Gerald, would love to see anything showing her youth in Jersey and that transition from wildest bitch ever to overprotective mom
Unpopular opinion I don't like when people make her wildly OOC and abusive/homophobic to Kyle, but I also don't like when people imply she's the better parent compared to Gerald and that she needs to divorce him to be happy. Like, no lol
Favorite relationship Her and Gerald of course, she would find him in any universe. She does need more friendships tho, give her and Sharon more scenes together!
Favorite headcanon Uhh it's not a happy one but I do like the headcanon that she had miscarriages before Kyle, which is why she's so protective over him and why they adopted Ike
Kyle!
First impression First SP thing I saw was a SoT playthrough, was rooting for him and the elves and thought his design was cool
Impression now My fave of the main 4, probably second favorite of all the show, think it's wild he causes so much discourse in the fandom lol
Favorite moment Too many, either the entire "Willzyx" ep where he loves orcas (just like me fr) or him yelling in general
Idea for a story Idk??? More post covid stuff or stuff where he's older in general and has his kids. I want to see him be a dad
Unpopular opinion Not him directly but his fans are either super chill or superrrr insufferable. Especially if they have him as a PFP. Also don't immediately give him bad parents, at least let him be the one main kid with decentish parents lol.
Favorite relationship No surprise, really like his friendship with Stan, they should never be separated even if it hurts them or others lol. I do like K2, Nichole and him and David and him together as either friends or romantic
Favorite headcanon Is being premature a headcanon? If so then yeah, preemie Kyle. Also that he's actually a psychic/reality warper but has no time for that and ignores it lol
Ike
First impression Baby boy, baby
Impression now The baby is disconcertingly right-leaning politically, needs more screentime lol
Favorite moment So many, everything he does in the pilot or Season 20
Idea for a story Uhh nothing, I don't think of solely Ike stories, maybe something where he and Gerald hash it out after Gerald tried to throw him under the bus
Unpopular opinion Idk?? Ok why do people ship him and Firkle, is it just because of age?
Favorite relationship He and Kyle have the best sibling relationship, mostly because they're the most focused on but still. I like that he's the moral compass for the entire Broflovski family
Favorite headcanon Cool uncle Ike! That's all I've got boss.

Supernova by Marissa Meyer spoilers ahead:
So, about supernova's ending... (lots of talking ahead)
I think my biggest complaint with this book and maybe with the whole trilogy is specifically Nova's family issue.
I have little wishes like I wish Oscar, Ruby, and Danna got more screentime (texttime? Appearances?) But mainly Im not sure I like the decision to make Ace Anarchy the reason Nova's family was killed.
Don't get me wrong, I like him being evil and someone that Nova would have to realize wouldn't be good. I like him wanting Nova for her powers and not completely because of her being family. He selfish and evil and brings a wonderful arc for Nova.
But him being the reason took away from the complexity of his character in my opinion. It's not a super hard decision for Nova to not follow him once her MAIN motivation for being an anarchist was, in the end, his fault.
I think it makes sense for why Ace Anarchy would go after her parents, it's not out of character, but I can't help but feel disappointed that Ace was more one dimensional than he seemed to me at the beginning.
It also feels like the renegades don't have to carry as much responsibility for failing Nova the way they did anymore. I wanted them to still have A LOT of responsibility cause that made Nova's origins really interesting. They are still a little at fault but not as much with Ace being to blame.
For a while when I was reading I was thinking that failure to act happened when people in the renegades didn't want to protect Ace Anarchy's family. It would go hand in hand with the themes Frostbite's team showed. Renegades being awful to Anarchists and not always the good guy.
And, I think there was plenty of set up for Nova to go against him with the reveal of Magpie. I guessed pretty early on that Magpie was actually Evie and for the reveal to happen inside the actual series and not just in an epilogue would have been so rewarding!
Nova didn't see her sister die, nor her dead body and that made me suspect something from the beginning. But since the story didn't address it I wasn't sure. Then magpie was introduced, seemed like an important character who was either her sister or would be a part of the main cast. And she wasn't really the latter.
The reader got examples of prodigies who survived events they shouldn't have because of their power. That sets up Magpie REALLY WELL. Magpie had a whole lot of interest surrounding Nova's bracelet till the very end. The bracelet that is connected to her father.
I half expected Magpie to be onto Nova with all the suspicion she cast Nova's direction. And a big reveal would be that she figured Nova out.
I also suspected that Maggie got help after the attack because of the renegades. Which I was partially correct about but I thought Adrian's parents were the ones to rescue her. They just gave her a new identity and protections. Then once it was revealed Nova is an Artino, they could be like "BUT WAIT, EVIE IS-" and get cut off cause the reveal should be when maggie is there.
Of course this option is also not without it's many many faults and rewriting would be needed but I can't let go about how well it would work. Nova would be conflicted at the peak of the battle and finding out that she has family. After so much had already been taken from her. After so much has changed. Her... her baby sister is alive.
If Evie had been rescued by Adrian's parents, just given a new name and protections, that would give them a point. Yes they failed her, but they now have a step in making up for it. (also imagine adrian's parents thoughts and concerns like- they failed this family in protecting them but they can help this child now. In some way it would be to relieve the guilt they have, so they can move on. And then once Nova is back the guilt is back and they actually have to make up for it by making changes. Which after a big fight they'd be obligated to do so)
The canon ending isn't awful by any means. It still works but it gets me a little miffed that Adrian's parents don't have to carry as much guilt. Maybe that's just me.
And about the epilogue, it's really not my favorite. Yeah, it confirmed my theory (tho I got spoiled for it a book prior) but other than that I didn't like too much from it. It feels like no progress has been made in the universe with this epilogue. We are getting the same Nova story except little alterations with Evie. The same love story, with Evie x Max (which, I don't like that ship... they'll kinda be siblings with NovaxAdrien)
I would rather wrap up Evie's story with everyone else's, I really wanted some closure there and I think it could have worked.
Y'know I almost wonder if changes were made in the story so it wasn't as similar to Lunar Chronicles... (there are more examples than this but) PURE speculation but it felt like Nova was actually gonna be the leader of a revolution. For an *actual* change to happen instead of going back to how much power the renegades had. I thought it was really cool how the books had showed the bad and good of the renegades and anarchists but in the end it did go back to the renegades being the good guys that shouldn't be questioned. At least it felt like that to me.
All of this is just my opinion in rambled notes form though

Snape asks #16-18, if you're still doing them? Super excited to see your answer to #16, especially after your Eileen deep-dive.
Relieved to see I'm not the only one who has already forgotten I've reblogged this set of Snape asks before 😂.
16 and 18 are answered here (from the the first time you asked lolllll). My answers haven't changed or expanded much, but someone asked me once what I thought about Snape's family life and upbringing. It seems that subject might be a special interest now I think of it. . . but there's so little to go on!
And I do still feel strongly about what I said in the answer to 18, that a lot of the Snapedom seems to have taken the issue of his triggered, feral side not being adequately portrayed in the films to a bit of an extreme by saying he's a feral little man, when I think there's much more to him than that. As your own breakdown of his speech patterns showed, he's an excessively controlled man who has specific moments when he loses that control and becomes feral. I get why people identify with that and want to emphasize that aspect of him, but I am, unfortunately, a hopeless pedant and obsessed with character development and Snape's character is extremely well developed and rounded. Painting him as one dimensional doesn't do him justice. And hey, everyone should be able to enjoy characters however they choose because that's what fandom is about! I'm by no means unquestionably correct in my views, but I sure do love to argue them lol. The thing that I feel strongly about is when I feel like people make definitive statements about a subjective thing like a character, and do so in ways that leave less room for exploring that character and meta around them, instead of creating more.
17. What rubs you the wrong way about how he’s portrayed in fanon/fan fiction?
I don't really read fan fiction so I can't speak about that much, only about what I see on Tumblr. I don't think a lot of things rub me the wrong way, really, not even what I said above: he's a complex, rounded character and sure, it irks me when people focus on only particular aspects of him. But I also don't feel all that strongly about it. I'll talk about it in an ask like this, but I won't go out of my way to comment on anyone's post about how wrong they are or anything (though I might challenge their post for the fun of debating and delving into meta), because there is no right or wrong. The whole point of fandom is that everyone makes it what they want it to be. If someone sees Snape as a feral little man and that makes them happy or gives them catharsis etc. then for them he's a feral little man! If someone else sees him as a controlled genius and that's what gets them up in the morning, then for them he's a controlled genius! Good times all around.
Here's what it's about for me: I think it's interesting debating why he might be a feral little man or not, or a controlled genius, or whatever else, and poring over the text to find reasoning for why. But I don't have any real stake in this game aside from a love of literary analysis and character study. So it's not even that there are any portrayals of Snape that rub me the wrong way; there are portrayals that I might feel make no sense because my reading of the text is different. But I usually shrug and keep scrolling when I come across them on my dash. The same way that someone enjoys delving into why Snape is a feral little man, I enjoy delving into meta in general.
Fandom is about infinite readings of characters and stories and exploring their possibilities! That's the whole fun of it! I don't think there's room for hate in it, even though some people sure try hard to carve some out. Some people project onto characters, others just find joy or love in them, and it's all great! I don't have anything deeper to say. Snape is a fictional character - he's not real, go nuts! Who am I to be rubbed the wrong way by what someone else's vision of him is?

Thoughts on The Rookie 5x04
First off is this the first part of the crossover event? I'm genuinely so confused.
Second, this episode was so weird in a lot of ways. They seemingly raised the stakes in a way that just did not land. Like who really thought Bailey was going to die??? And Rosalind just dying like that??? Without even articulating her obsession with Nolan??? Weird. Also I know this is John's show and he's the MC but ending Rosalind should have been Lucy's storyline. She has a much deeper and more emotional connection to Rosalind than any of the others do. This isn't even me as a Chenford shipper saying this, but it's more about Lucy being Rosalind's loose end and Lucy "closing the book" on that trauma (obvi that's not how trauma works but u get my point). At the very least Lucy should have been the one to pull Bailey out- willingly going into an enclosed underground container to save someone the way she was saved would have been a great parallel.
Third, how could Rosalind guarantee that Bailey would be the one to fall in the trap?? Seemed rather lucky that she actually fell in.
Fourth, why the fuck would Bailey tire herself out like that? I'm no diving expert so correct me if I'm wrong but why would she waste her energy practicing how long she could hold her breath?
Fifth, I actually don't hate Bailey's character. What bothers me about her is that she's kind of a Mary Sue and that she's more of an accessory to John than anything else. Like I get she's not a main character but we only ever see her about to have sex with John or being super flirty or kicking ass (latter is great) but she's just like infallible? She took all these fighting classes, she's a firefighter, an EMT, army reserve, etc etc like it's just not realistic? Idk I feel like she's too one dimensional. The Rookie does a good job with making their female characters strong but not infallible and not Mary Sues so idk why they did that to Bailey.
All in all I would give this episode like a 3/10

ANA I AM CURIOUS ABOUT HOW YOU THINK OF GUACHE/NISTRO I know you greatly appreciate droite but what about her partner in crime? 👁️
Omg I did realise at one point that I almost never talk about that guy as much as I should, so here lays my truest thoughts on Gauche/Nistro
•How do I feel about this character
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HIS CHARACTER! He's so fun to watch and I feel deeply ashamed I used to feel differently about him at the beginning because of a stupid ship and that was such an embarrassing phase (I didn't engage in any ship drama thank god about that but my notp clouded my judgement AGHRHHH) but my taste improved luckily overtime and better late than never to make amends of my past mistakes
His upbeat personality is fun and all but SERIOUSLY GET A MAN LIKE HIM WHO CAN DO BOTH! This man can be a dork, high spirited, an idiot and be a hilarious character giving this big dumb energy muscular man while also being super skilled, intelligent in his own way and writers bothered to give a little bit of backstory and NOT be this one dimensional comic relief character like I thought he would be at the beginning??? LIKE?? I LOVE THAT??? AND FROM THE RECENT POLL HE'S A CERTIFIED MALEWIFE SO THERE'S THAT
And his interactions with Droite omg (I LOVE MY BABIES SO MUCH MUST PROTECT THEM AT ALL COSTS) WE. NEEDED. MORE. BANTER AND MORE SCENES OF THEM DOING THEIR JOB WHERE THEY JUST SQUABBLE (please why they never showed at least one frame of Droite and Gauche dueling tf, I'm not satisfied by that mind controlled Gauche tag duel only).
His design is so cool as well! I love he just discarded his work outfit as soon as he quit, like finally a character that proves me wrong about Zexal characters not having a wardrobe with the same smelly outfit in their home other than Kotori and few others (I'M LOOKING AT YOU CASWELL).
Also the Starmann costume...sorry but I can't take it seriously 😂 but I love the message behind it and how it is tied to his childhood where he and Droite lived in the streets and dueling became their star of hope.
•All the people I ship romantically with this character
Sorry but I don't ship him romantically with anyone, not even Droite and I'll explain why in a bit. For the other characters he has interactions and chemistry with they are all minors so nope.
•My non-romantic OTP for this character
This has to be Droite and Gauche. I can't see them in a romantic lens, to me they share more of a familial bond/sibling relationship more than anything, and the fact Droite found love in someone else kind of furthers my case.
The thought of Droite being the only family he ever had in a world where he was born with none feels more meaningful to me than any common romantic tropes. It also means they share a stronger bond as in family always comes first and would be there for eachother no matter what. The media lacks this kind of friendship and bond between a man and a woman who aren't related and seeing them in this light feels like a breath of fresh air and I'm here for it! Also did you guys notice the matching bracelet they share?? I would love to know the canon meaning behind it, but for now I interpret it as a symbol of their relationship which I interpret it as familial, just like Shark and Rio's rings.
•My unpopular opinion about this character
Honestly I'm not sure... I don't think I have any other than the fact I don't ship him with Droite romantically?
•One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon
Oh hohoho, I guess I have only a few things to say
I just think ending up liking a side character in Zexal is just hell, period, but goodness
Umm, Zexal, when were you planning to ever show, or rather, why hide, the fact GAUCHE HAS HIS OWN NUMBER CARD???
Tumblr media
HMMM???
Also I would have loved to see more interactions between Gauche and Alito. Despite their rocky start it is clearly shown they would make good friends. There were even drawn parallels between them where past Alito was a lot like Gauche, and they share the same fighting spirit. Anyway they would be good friends... too bad them being in good terms was never shown...
Also this is not a criticism but more of a wish where they expanded more in his and Droite's past and how they became elite and how he got that scar in his face. They never explained it or even shown a flashback of it. And because of how underdeveloped and mysterious they left it out to be I'm really having a confusing time understanding the true nature of his relationship with people in the Tower - they showed him having this big rivalry with Kaito and them being pissed around each other but in Spartan City, once Kaito saw him and Droite, he was smiling to the point his eyebrows became straight?? I want to know the lore stuff basically that I'll never get to knoww
Sorry if I missed anything but here is my answer!

hi!! it's me again. what are your thoughts on how this franchise portrays harem drama? personally, i think they totally wasted the heck out of this premise. you have this place full of women with a very similar trauma, but who are all supposed to compete with each other! perfect for very juicy dynamics and conflicts. the show only does... Mahidevran vs Hurrem. over and over again.
Eh, depends on what you classify as "harem drama". Struggle for power? Complex scheming with plans within plans that fucking Dune pales in comparison to? Girlies starting MINI SLAVE REVOLTS?! Yeah, give me that shit NOW. It can get a little repetitive at times, but it's never boring. When the goal is to just get the guy, it's largely underwhelming and annoying. If only all of it was indeed like Mahidevran vs. Hürrem, because they at least have the juicy long-time struggle, like, they are each other's fucking nemesis, and eventually it's not even about the guy, but about power and survival of their sons.
The Gülnihal drama was only interesting because of the impact on their friendship and because she was more than a one-dimensional enemy for Hürrem to "slay" by killing her or having sex with Süleyman. The Russian concubines were the pointless bullshit ever and also gave us the scene of Hürrem's self-harm, thanks I hate it. And thank God, her rivalry with Hürrem was never a big part of Sadika's storyline, which is why I loved it so much (well, that and of course the fact that the main point of it was shanking Süleyman, even if her mission was ultimately unsuccessful).
Isabela Fortuna was wasted af, like, imagine the good shit this might've been if it was actually focused on her escape attempts and relationship with Süleyman in ways that aren't just Stockholm syndrome. Also, her rivalry with Hürrem sucked. Like, bitch, why are you attacking this girl?! She doesn't want to sleep with Süleyman any more than you want her to! Then there are the two chicks in season 2 that Süleyman didn't even look at before sending them away, again kinda wasting our time.
Firuze... *sigh* I know some of y'all like this storyline and are able to find something good and worthwhile in it. Good for you. Because I personally couldn't stand it. I really don't get what Süleyman sees in this chick, like I am pretty sure he's just getting off on Hürrem's anger and despair. Or maybe he's sleeping with her just to see how he'd like a girl that isn't an insufferable drama queen for once. I don't know, because the show doesn't answer this most interesting of questions. So instead the whole thing devolves into an endless catfight that distracts us from Ibrahim's eminent demise, which is kind of a problem, since I've been looking forward to Ibrahim's death for the entire previous season. Thanks, I hate it.
Nazenin is just there, because Fatma thinks it's funny to make Hürrem suffer. She also says something about a prince, but that part of her plan was always kinda dumb. Nazenin is annoying and I hate her, but I like Fatma, so in the end it just ends up being less bad than the other ones, but still not good.
I will say, Fatma Hatun's quest to fuck Mustafa was very entertaining at first, but then he shuns her for a more stable girl and the whole thing devolves into the predictable yandere bullshit that I hate so much. I mean, this is Fatma, some yandereing is to be expected, but for it to be the focus of her character? No. Fuck you. Also, Fatma and Nurbanu are the only two women who are in any way skilled in the art of getting into man's pants. Also, Firuze, kinda. Others either use super crude methods (dancing, or boob touching - hi Efsun) or just are themselves, which don't get me wrong, that's often quite enough, but still, it's more fun for us as viewers when they get creative. I complained endlessly about Rumeysa and Ayşe's whole thing, and I don't think it gets any better later. Also, it's pointless af. Thanks, I hate it.
Reyhan or whatever her name is is the most boring part of Nurbanu's whole existence and I hate her. Like, Nurbanu is seriously on a whole another level from this bitch, no wonder she is just shoved into the background untill the murder attempt.
Kaya only exists to explain Bayezit's older kids and for Huricihan to be horrible to. I hate both of them.
Mahfiruz the Greek was horrible, but kinda clever, which means she had potential against the scrappy little thing like Anastasia. I also liked Sayeşte's storyline... So of course they had to kill both of them and bring in Mahfiruze the Circassian, the most annoying bitch in the universe. Katerina was there to be sexy and threatening, and was supremely bad in both. Nazenin was easier to take seriously. But Yasemin takes the cake for the biggest waste of a character. Like can you imagine, her and Kösem learning they are sisters?! The drama?! The joy in what was to be joyless times for Kösem?! But nooo, she had to be killed to... Show us what a monster Safiye is? As if we haven't just seen an entire season of that?! Fuck off with that.
The Osman-Meleksima-Akile thing again never went anywhere, why didn't they just cut Akile entirely is beyond me. Like, it's not like they are averse to that - they did cut a lot of superfluous children of the sultans.
I haven't seen the entirety of season 2 of Kösem, but I will say this - getting me to care who gets the privilege of being in an utterly terrible relationship with Murat is a doomed endeavour, and it sure as hell isn't made any easier by Farya and Ayşe being boring and terrible respectively.

Major Stranger Things 4 part 2 spoilers!!!
Okay, I have major complaints so if you don't want to hear anything negative don't read anymore. These are just my personal thought and opinions I don't want to make anyone feel bad for liking the show or feel like you have to share my opinions.
1. Eddie
God they really did Eddie wrong that last episode. Eddie is a wonderful character that we only just started to scratch the surface on. But they killed him off in the weirdest most pointless way. We'd had some context for him "running away" and feeling ashamed of it, but no real character reason for why. He couldn't have done anything for Chrissy so why does he feel guilty about it? It feels like that part of his character wasn't fully fleshed out and was just put in there to give him a reason to run into danger. And worst of all, there was NO REASON for him to run into danger. When he and Dustin were climbing back into the real world the bats were still chasing them, there was no sign that they would have returned to the house. And then when he was on the bike leading them away there was NO REASON for him to turn around and try and fight them. He was doing what he was supposed to! He was leading them away. I just don't understand, it felt like he was acting suicidal. Which if that was the intention it wasn't handled well at all. I'm just so disappointed. I loved Eddie as a character and really wanted him to survive. But if they were going to kill him off he deserved a better death. Finally it's strange to me how no one in the crew but Dustin has acknowledged Eddies death. Dustin was not the only member of the Hellfire club, and he wasn't the only person who had bonded with Eddie. Why did this kid not receive any support or comfort from Steve who has basically been his older brother for the past 3 seasons? Anyway the only thing that made this palatable at all was Gatens amazing acting. The way his lip quivered when Dustin told Eddies Uncle what happened had me sobbing. Eddies death also had me sobbing, but not in a good way.
2. Nancy
I am famous for not liking how media portrays romantic relationships and this is a great example of a character whose romantic arc I hate. I've come to love Nancy as a character and I'm so disappointed with how her romance is continuously handled. This love triangle has gone on for SO LONG its getting ridiculous, it was overplayed in season 1 let alone season 4. I have lots I could say about it but it would take too much time so here's the basics. Johnathan and Nancy have grown apart and are very different people, he's not being honest with her and that is a sign their relationship is not in a good place. He needs to buck up and tell her he doesn't want to go to the same college. That whole plot point this season was so boring and needless. Steve being hung up on Nancy when they've done so much character growth on him is a disservice to his character. I honestly wasn't mad about the Steve goes on a bunch of dates in search of real connection plot, I thought it was cute and an indication of how Steve has changed and what he wants. I even thought the whole, I dream of having six kids and taking them places thing was super sweet and reinforces the caring person Steve has become. But I think it regressed his character arc and makes him one dimensional for him to believe Nancy is the only woman he'll ever love or whatever. They dated in highschool, they were kids, of course they're going to change and grow and be different after that. I really feel like the Duffers are allergic to anyone in their show being single. Or anyone in their show moving on from their "true love". Nancy would be so much better off being single for a while and not hung up on boys from highschool. She's a big fish in a small pond but when she goes off to college she could easily find someone who she really clicks with. She doesn't need to be in a relationship for her character to be interesting.
3. Mike
Another character that suffers from the Duffers inability to allow anyone to be single. At this point his whole character is being Els boyfriend and it sucks. He's become so one dimensional and repetitive. His speech to El when she's fighting Vecna was so strange and completely untrue. He loved her from the moment he saw her? They were kids! And he didn't know her! Love is something that builds and grows, he could have said he loved her when - insert anythything about her as a person - and it would have been so much more meaningful. Mike is possessive and weird about El. He feels like he can't live without her, can't loose her. Someone needs to sit him down and explain to him that that's not love thats codependency. Its common for kids in love to feel like its the only love they'll ever have and its the end of the world when it ends but thats when a parent needs to step in to help kids navigate their first relationship, breakup, etc. Mike is so blindly focused on El he missed Will crying right in front of him. Even if Mikes too oblivious to realize what Will was confessing to him, the fat that he didn't even notice his friend was upset was so unrealistic and frustrating. Mike can't possibly be the heart of the group when he has the emotional intelligence of a pickle. If anything Will is the heart, he's sensitive and sweet and kind.
Those are my main complaints for this season. I'm sure I'll have more thoughts on things later but I had to get some stuff off my chest about this before I exploded.

Omg you are the first person i hear who didnt like exit west! Why is that, if i may inquire?
Of course, I'll never turn down a question about books lol. This is going to sound super bitchy probably so to qualify I don't think it's like a ~bad book~, it just really fell flat with me. Also I grade Hamid's work on a steep curve since imo he's such a talented writer--The Reluctant Fundamentalist is among one of my favorite novels.
I guess the first thing is that the magical realism aspect really didn't grab me. I love magical realism if it's done well but I'm picky about it, and unless you really work at it I think 'magical realism trope as an allegory for a social issue' can feel kind of hokey and juvenile. And that leads into my overarching critique of the book, which is that it felt more like a parable or a morality play than a fully fleshed-out novel without all the rough edges sanded off. The things that are used to make it feel universal (the city the two main characters are from and the conflict that's ongoing being unnamed, for instance) also make it feel one-dimensional. And there's a sort of flatness to the moral dimension of the story (refugees good, people trying to keep them out bad--which isn't wrong, but in a fictional context it's also not interesting) that is so different from his earlier novels. Part of what I loved about The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Moth Smoke and especially How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia is that the main characters are all ethically complicated people and you change your mind about how you feel towards them throughout the novel even though (at least for me) you're still rooting for them.
I think a lot of the reception to Exit West is due to when it was released--it came out in March 2017, just months after the start of the Trump presidency and the Muslim ban and less than a year after the Brexit vote. At that moment support for immigrants and refugees was, among a certain subset of people, at an all-time high and I think a lot of the acclaim the novel got was less about it's specific merits and more people wanting to show support for the values it stood for. Which again isn't necessarily bad and you could certainly praise Hamid for writing something so timely--but I found it boring. I don't think it had a lot of profound things to say about the migration crisis and I basically read it in one day in the summer of 2017 and haven't thought about it since. Whereas I've read TRF multiple times and I think it's the best, or one of the best, works of art grappling with 9/11.

💛, 🖤 💔, 🩶 and 🎃?
TRANSFORMER ANON🫵👁️👄👁️
💛 - top 3 versions of april
Rise April
03' April
87' April
This is in no specific order. I love them all<3
🖤 - top 3 versions of casey
Rise Casey Jr
03' Casey
87' Casey
I would say Cassandra but I'm just not as emotionally invested with her. Don't get me wrong she's still sick tho. But again, no particular order with the Casey's either👌👌
💔 - top 3 moments that make you cry
When Raph is crying during the series finale and he's just like "why cant I do this?"
Then Karai tells April she was always one of them.
When Splinters mom says hot soup with him.
Yes this is all from Rise. I feel like out of all the iterations Rise is the version that best utilizes color, line, music, and acting to manipulate the feelings of the viewers. It works on me every time. And the reason I didn't mention the movie is cuz the rise movie doesn't actually make me cry. It didn't the first time I watched it and it hasn't any of the other times I did. It still has emotional moments don't get me wrong, it's just not something that makes me cry.🤷‍♀️
🩶 - an overrated character/episode and an underrated character/episode
Overrated character? Definitely MM April. She just feels one dimensional to me. There is nothing all that relatable or likeable about her. Shes just kinda there. She has no emotional impact on me. It's hard for me to understand why people like her so much. I just choose to believe that she wasn't made for someone like me. Still overrated tho.
Overrated episode????? Ngl, I can't really think of an episode of a series that I thought was overrated. I think the Mutant Mayhem movie is overrated but that's a movie not an episode so🤷‍♀️
For an underrated character I would probably have to say Venus De Milo. I think her concept is really cool and I'd love to see her used in more main stream media. Same with Lotus Blossom. With all the references shows like MM are making to the 87' series and it's focus on romance you think they'd give Leo his og love interest at some point.
Underrated episode I would probably have to say Hypno Part Deux. It's an April central episode that I think does an expert job of highlighting April's insecurities. In general Rise April is a confidant and self assured character. However she struggles with community and feeling like she belongs. She is seen as an outcast or weirdo and longs to be accepted by her peers. In trying to be accepted by them she pushes away the people that actually care about her and ends up getting into a lot of trouble. In the end she realizes that not only does she already have her people but also that getting validation from people who don't care about you will never make you feel as loved. This episode really makes her moment with Karai more impactful as well, because everything ends up becoming full circle for her character. Yes she knows the turtles love her and care for her, so why care for Taylors opinion? Well, to quote her "I'm not one of you." April knows the turtles love her but she's not a mutant, she's not a hamato, and she doesn't have mystic powers. She cares for them but for a long time she doesn't feel like she truly belongs with humans or mutants. That she's to different to fit in with either. And I personally really relate to this version of April for that reason.
🎃 - top 3 favourite headcanons
That Rise Donnie's neck can stretch super far
03' Donnie still has red eyes after the good genes episode
12' Splinter sees himself in Leo and Oroku Saki in Raph which is why he focuses most on them and not so much on Mikey and Donnie.

Why the myth about Steve's PTSD doesn't add up and other inconsistencies
In the last few episodes of H50, PL tried to sell us a mentally broken Steve suffering from PTSD. Only the whole thing came a bit too late. The clip you see is from season 4 and ended up - no, not in the series - but somewhere on the floor of PL's editing room. And why? after Kurtzman and Orci departed, along with their writers, PL took the helm and started turning Steve into a super-soldier. He stylized him into something that wasn't meant to be. Instead of developing the characters, PL began to incorporate more and more hair-raising action sequences into the series and then let Steve fight on the front lines. There was no mention of Steve's mental state, and a lot was explained by PL with: it just happened "offscreen." Yeah, sure. PL can't create a decent character. He can only produce stereotypes and one-dimensional beings. Like Adam. What potential would that character have had had he been turned into Five-0's antagonist? But no. So his role remained diffuse and monotonous. Sometimes even tragicomical.
Back to Steve. When SEAL Team started on CBS, PL also lapsed into SEAL mania. If someone who writes fanfiction were to produce as much garbage as this man did, he would be chased away from every writers' platform in disgrace. PL's Super SEAL also had to rescue his team members from a blazing inferno. Not man by man, no, he flew a helicopter right into the danger zone and lifted a whole cabin out of the burning jungle. If lunacy had a name, it would be PL. While the action became more and more exaggerated and unrealistic, the same happened to the protagonists. After the departure of Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, PL completely lost his mind. And please, don't blame the writers for the nonsense that was thrown at you. A series stands and falls with the showrunner. He dictates what he wants and passes it on to his staff.
And so, lovable Steve became a soulless robot who only showed feelings here and there. Danny diminished more and more into a sidekick. McDanno became a ship that drifted anchorless through a stormy sea and threatened to capsize again and again. From season 8, it became a reboot of the reboot. PL tried an ensemble show and failed more than miserably. Often the actors just stood around bored. At least that was the impression. The only highlight was episode 8.10. A feast for all McDanno fans. But even here, the outcome of "who shot Danny" was more than insubstantial.
Wait, there was something about SEALs... Oh, yes. Junior appeared on the scene and became Steve's lapdog. I really wondered when there was going to be an episode where he would fetch sticks for Steve. Luckily we had Eddie for that. And because he thought he was so clever, PL invented the episode speed dating. How many subplots can you squeeze into one episode at the same time? In some episodes, you couldn't even take a look at the bag of potato chips without losing the thread.
The case of the week became the yawn of the week. There were so many loose ends that PL then came up with something called retconning. That's what you do when you're no longer satisfied with what was once established in the series years ago, or it no longer fits. But PL went one step further and did the same with the characters. The more the series was dragged out, the more the characters deteriorated and became OOC. It means, often, they were not recognizable at all. And that's where we come to Steve. Because PL, in his desperation, didn't know what else he could do to Steve, and so he killed Joe White. He did it in such a cheesy way with a fake sunset that it made you sick.
Of course, one episode later, there had to be another gig of PL's favorite Barbie. He stuck a fake beard on poor Steve/Alex, so he couldn't even hug Danny/Scott properly. The episode also raised more questions than it answered any. And Steve? He still didn't suffer from PTSD, even though he had now lost Joe White and a fellow SEAL. Everyone is dropping like flies, except for Steve, who is standing like a rock. No matter what. He doesn't need in-depth talks with Danny, nor psychological care, nor any sleeping pills. No, he's doing great. He also opens a restaurant with Danny because apparently, the carguments are already getting on PL's nerves. Unfortunately, this plot device leads into nirvana. The idea was nice, but nobody thought it through to the end. And the merry-go-round continues. Until we get to season 10, where it gets even more absurd. Now PL is almost bombarding us with McDanno episodes, or at least it should seem that way. Oh well, he's already planning for season 11, so a new character has to come on board quickly. While in the beginning, Steve's mother, Doris, dies.
Alex was allowed to take on the subject. Of course, only under the strict eyes of PL. He then nullifies Alex's idea that Steve kills his mother. Because a good soldier and Super SEAL won't do that. Little does PL know. THAT could have been the opening of a PTSD scenario for Steve. However, apart from that, this episode would have had any potential for a multi-arc. Just imagine Steve chasing his mother across multiple episodes. Again, PL stepped in and butchered Alex's episode. You can really feel sorry for the guy. PL at his best or worse? He just can't help it. And then, on the very last meters of the series, he brings someone new, who is allowed to cruise around with Steve most of the time. Because Danny was kidnapped by Wo Fat's widow, PL also invented quite late to have some villain at his disposal. This wannabe mastermind must really have been living under a rock somewhere if she wasn't even mentioned by her husband or appeared earlier.
Because towards the end, PL obviously ran out not only of steam but also of ideas, everything culminated in a wildly illogical scenario. Steve has to live through a dramatic day with Eddie, who stands as a metaphor for Steve (as I said, PTSD was never a thing for Super SEAL), Danny bangs his brains out in a ladies' room with a complete stranger, who dies shortly after that in an accident with Danny's rental car. Apparently, there was no budget to turn the Camaro into scrap metal. Danny then also goes home alone, ignoring the incoming emergency vehicles. Everything remains open at the end of the episode. While Steve expresses his gratitude to Tani and Quinn and says, he would be just as lost as poor Eddie without the dog and all of them. The strange thing is that you never notice anything until that sentence. A few forced dialogues are supposed to make the drama visible, but they all happen way too late or are so poorly written that you miss them.
PL had decided early on to make Steve a Teflon hero. That also means he didn't need to put much substance into the character. Which you can clearly see if you compare the first three seasons to the rest of the series. But towards the end, PL wanted to turn the tide and forcefully rewrote Steve's past. There is a huge difference if you compare Steve from seasons 1 to 3 with Steve from season 10. It is only a sparse remnant of what made this character so great. This change in Steve's personality also affects his relationship with Danny. The witty, affectionate banter degenerates into a snappy, humorless bitch-fest that takes all the joy out of it.
The final two episodes could have been written for any other crime show. As mentioned, we have Cole, who even gets a book'em Cole from Steve, which can only be described as out of line. And it begs the question, was that what Lenkov originally had in mind? Danny out of the show and Cole in? Was the last episode, which mainly featured McCole, something of a test run? Did all the McDanno moments happen only to tear the two apart eventually? Was the real final scene the one where Steve and Catherine take Danny's coffin back to Jersey? Was Danny not supposed to survive? Was that the real reason Steve wanted to get out of Hawaii because he wanted to pay his respects to Danny? And would he really have returned to Hawaii later? Or would he have turned his back on Hawaii? To me, this ending is more plausible than what PL served us. Then, Steve handed over his credentials to Cole instead of Danny, his second in command. Honestly, you can't make the end of a series any more sloppy and dumber than that. And I won't even lose a word about the last 1:30 minutes because I think everything has already been said.
No PL, mission absolutely not accomplished. You created Teflon-Steve. You never wanted him to show any weakness. You turned him into a superhuman who can survive anything. Only to pull the rug out from under him on the last few meters to the finish line and spit on his legacy. How can you dismantle such a great series and its characters like you did? How much do you have to hate something to do that? In the final interviews, the showrunner didn't exactly cover himself in glory either. Everyone who grew up with the series from day one knows that its end was wrong on all the possible levels and that the showrunner is solely to blame for that. It takes a fair amount of egoism and carelessness to drive 10 years at full throttle against the wall. Not many people can do that. Whether you can be proud of that, however, I doubt.
My respect if you have made it this far. Each of you gets 10 extra brownie points for it.

Francis watch TharnType 2 (Day 3... I think)
First thought: I wanna finish this this week because otherwise I don't think I ever will.
Second thought: ... chocolate is good.
Third thought: CUT!
Episode 6
I don't actually care about Tharn's job at all. Or Tharn. In general. Or at all. In the slightest.
"Is it wrong to want to possess someone so thoroughly that I ignore their wishes entirely, refuse to listen to their side or discuss the issue with them and to be upset that they won't just do what I want in our supposedly equal romantic relationship?"
Everything Type and Tharn say is at odds. Type trying to look out for Tharn and Tharn trying to take care of him and neither one really listening to the other at all. It's annoying. How the hell have they supposedly stayed together for seven years again?
Awwww, Doc! Also, he looks good in red. Nice color choice, wardrobe department. Big fan.
I get that Type is trying to proof something but why not, like, accept the help of all the friends that keep trying to help him? Oh, right, because he hasn't matured at all since freshman year.
Hey, Type, maybe worry less about their loves lives and consider thinking about your own for, like, half a second.
Awww, Doc is all worried. He's such a good guy in the most legit way.
And Champ is also darling. @absolutebl I would 100% watch an entire series of these two just being oblivious and darling over food at each other for twelve episodes. And even with MAME writing I think it'd be better than Bite Me.
Champ is so darling and oblivious but also someone caught in Doc's adorableness. He's so demi. Like, MAME does a great job unintentionally writing demi characters. She's fantastic at it, honestly, it's just entirely accidental at all times.
If Champ calls Doc cute again, I might just die. DAMN them for being so darling.
Seriously, these two have the worst romance ever. They're just so completely incapable of communication. UTTERLY INCAPABLE. How am I supposed to believe they have a loving relationship?
I am barely watching this. I just don't care about Type and his job related woes that only make sense because his boss is a one-dimensional villain with no redeeming qualities.
"Ah, yes, let me abuse my authority for no reason whatsoever to make you work absurd hours and do absurd tasks because otherwise this show wouldn't have enough drama, apparently."
Fiat! My whiny baby! ILU.
lol I love Fiat as the tiny stalker. He's such a brat and a little stinker and an absolute whiner. Without Leo to really hold him down (ehehehhe) the way he wants him to, he's such a loose cannon.
I have to admit, the idea that Type would confide in a total stranger over any of his friends or his longterm boyfriend is just... stupid. It's so stupid.
But also, seriously, Type absolutely went into the wrong field for someone who hates working with people in general.
Great, an apology. Now could you TALK ABOUT IT PLEASE?!?!
Ah, yes, Leo and his possessiveness. We do love him so. And the fact that Fiat listens so automatically despite whining and pouting about it over the phone? My boooys.
Yeah, I do like that you can see how controlled Leo is in everything he does. He's got a temper and he knows how bad it is but he never wants to take it out on Fiat. He never wants to hurt him. And when he does, he ends up feeling awful.
Fiat rolling his eyes at Leo talking about Type having someone else is... yeah, this was definitely retconned a LOT in DSN. I mean, we literally see Fiat taking other people's relationships SUPER seriously in that show unlike here. It's an interesting change and, I mean, a good one.
And Leo striking for the center of him! I love them. Ugh, I remember every single one of these scenes so, so well. These boys. So fucked up but I love them.
This is about when I fully fell in love with them originally and when I got invested in watching their sections of every episode.
Watching Leo instantly regret his words is what made him one of my favorite characters. And Fiat running down the stairs and having his little breakdown? Aww, my tiny brat.
Fiat, baby, he chased you away because you said you didn't care if you broke up another person's relationship deliberately. Like... boo, I get you and your abandonment issues but seriously. Dude.
Leo running out and then just scooping him up inspired my first fanfic for this show and one I'm still proud of. I love them so much, okay? SO MUCH. I'm so glad they go their own show.
The hand that slips down and then grips the shirt is still SO good. And Leo apologizing and feeling so guilty and instantly just slipping into his need to take care of Fiat... this is why I say one of his love languages is definitely acts of service. Acts of service and physical touch. But Fiat needs words and Leo struggles with those.
I get it, they have good physical chemistry. That does not a relationship make! When Leo and Fiat have better communication and apology skills than you... you're in trouble.
I can't imagine sleeping with someone next to me in bed, working hard on their computer. That doesn't seem like a good way to rest. But whatever works, I guess?
Awww, Leo and Fiat have a little heart to heart about Leo kicking him out. It's so cute and darling and so deeply related to such deep trauma that it hurts in the future tense. Fiat really is just a bundle of trauma held together by his love from Leo and Leo's love for him.
Also, like, seriously, boys. The idea that these two thought they were in any way platonic is still laughable to me. Like, boys? Seriously? Fiat literally just said that anyone can chase him away except Leo because he won't care if the whole world hates him as long as Leo still cares. Like... really?
Ah, yes, the easily accessible rooftops of Thailand.
Episode 7
I am determined to finish this show before I go to sci-fi con this weekend.
These two are seriously the worst communicators ever and I don't get how it's like... cute? Or whatever? But also, yeah, why buy a new table just for the roof for one dinner? Y'all have plenty of tables and chairs.
I mean, the tent and everything on the roof is very nice and the sweet talk is cute but it needs to also come with REAL talk if you want to have an actual adult relationship together. But, yes, this scene is sweet and cute. Hey, I can't deny the occasional cute thing.
But FAR CUTER is Fiat all snuggled on Leo's chest and fast asleep there.
OH, hey, this is the scene where the microphone falls off First and he has to grab it while he tries to roll out of bed. I love that.
And pointless jealousy about something Fiat already knew about is a go!
This is why you mute your phone, friends! I mean, it'd make sense and I have no experience in this arena so... seriously.
I mean, Type does have friends that are like him. Though Champ has the right idea. Stop listening to Techno and just go. Leave Type alone to his day off!
Yay Cir and Phugun! I like them. Even in the tiny doses we get. I love them.
Poor Type is about to be harassed.
Seriously, Cir should be giving Leo lessons on how to be possessive. Or least having extensive discussions about it.
Their tiny friendship dynamics are so much better than their romantic ones.
/eyeroll/ Tharn and Type are so bad at communication that their friends all looking up to their relationship is just scary. But also, seriously, the idea that they can both be like 'we are absolutely loyal and in love' but also somehow still have a 'think you're cheating plot' later on is so stupid.
Cir, you have a much better relationship with Phugun than Tharn has with Type. Don't ask him for advice, seriously. You two might be the healthiest relationship in this entire show. You should be giving advice, not the other way around.
Uh, yes, you need to leave when the people who's home it is leave as well. Like, seriously. Get ouuut.
lol one-dimensional villains are boring. Why am I supposed to care? This is so pointless and just... seriously? It makes no sense at all. Why bother with this? He's not even a character, just a caricature.
Working in an abusive environment is not worth it, kids. Don't be like Type.
Doc is co cute, damnit. He's so tiny and sweet and smiley and darling. I love him far, far too much. They should absolutely get their own entire show.
Oh, so now the office is just... making stuff up? Why? Why even bother with this? This is stupid drama for drama's sake and nothing else and it's not even interesting.
Also, why do you have instagram notifications turned on? That's so pointless.
Seriously, this argument is one of the dumbest in the show yet. This is what happens when you don't talk to the people in your life about anything. Bad things. Stupid things. Absolutely pointless things that make no sense in the concept of a long term relationship.
I do love Cir and his indulgence of Phugun despite not wanting to do so.
And Klui appears to help! Well, try to help. OH WAIT SEO. Bahahaahahaha. WTF IS THAT SHIRT? I'd cry if I had to wear that shirt as well.
Ugh, they made Seo obnoxious and unlikable. Why? I miss his character in the original show.
Yeah, I'd run back into the literal mouth of a crocodile to get away from that.
... dude, Type explodes CONSTANTLY. That's like half his fucking personality and has been since day one.
Awww, Champ and Doc are always together. They're so cute. Absolute babies.
Ah, yes, third party communication. The best way to do it, obviously. And very sustainable in a longterm relationship.
Child, you are sitting on your bed crying because you couldn't bring yourself to talk about your day until forced to and you're like 'I can still do this' and maybe you should rethink your own limits?
Oh, look, communication actually works. What a radical goddamn idea. /eyeroll/
Goddamn, they're actually talking to each other. What kind of trickery is this? It won't last, I'm sure.
But also, this is the dumbest thing to take a stance on. Staying a year at a place that treats you like shit is not the stance you want to take, folks. You can take better stances than that!
Oh, right, the pointless 'working out of town' plot to separate them for no reason and having Tharn do it with no warning is an absolute bastard move on his part. Seriously.
But also this is so absolutely pointless. Like, seriously. You have to go 'study regional music' for two weeks... literally only because you need the plot of Type missing Tharn to add to the drama of the show.
lol it's like fucking Mean Girls with the two boys behind the boss with their arms crossed and those little smirks and both being obviously played as stereotypical 'gay' but still holding Type kissing Tharn against him?
Well... I mean, he is nothing but a one-dimensional villain so this isn't surprising. But it's so STUPID. SO STUPID.
/cackles
Yeah, that's it for today.

Can I ask your opinion? So, I feel like everyone into 3H is in love with Dimitri, but I can't connect with him. I don't dislike him, but I feel like there isn't much to his personality without all his various mental health issues. It's hard to get a feel on what he's really like, so I end up just seeing him as a walking ball of trauma and not a three-dimensional character. Do you have any thoughts on Dimitri himself and how to separate him as a person from his psychological issues? Thanks!
Hmm, I guess my first thought is that everyone resonates with characters differently and so if you don’t particularly feel connected to him, that’s not wrong. Fictional parasocial relationships are very similar to real-life relationships, so it follows that nobody is going to like every character. I can’t say that a portion of my love for his character doesn’t come from his mental issues because that’s something I personally relate to and feel drawn to in others. That’s just who I am and how I build relationships. There is also something to be said for the unavoidable way mental illness informs a person’s behavior and character, it’s as much an aspect of them as being born with blond hair or losing an eye.
That said, I will do my best to explain why I think Dimitri is wonderful. Not in spite of his mental illness, but because I don’t think that’s all he is.
So, Dimitri is, as he says, a very clumsy person. This unfortunately extends to his social skills. He has a lot of very socially awkward tendencies and a general lack of self-awareness. This contrasts with his innate desire to please people, or at least avoid upsetting anyone. The thing is, Dimitri doesn’t always completely understand what upsets people or how exactly they might feel. His childhood isolation left him rather emotionally unaware and desperate for the acceptance and approval of others. That’s not to say he doesn’t try to understand other people’s feelings, but it’s not an intuitive process. He has a habit of saying kind of dumb or uncomfortable things out of nowhere, which is most likely his real feelings coming out in rather inept ways. He means well, but he’s just so dang clumsy.
The desperation to be included and validated I mentioned, I think, can be seen in the way he tries so hard to make the other Blue Lions see him as a peer and equal all the while keeping himself rather closed off from them. Dimitri approaches conversations as a means of focusing on the other person, trying to make an appeal to them rather than as an interaction where both parties could be seen as vulnerable. Of course, just like most other socially awkward introverts, he opens up when he feels closer to the person, but that takes a while. Gotta unlock the supports, you know? Although it’s not necessarily obvious, his incredibly stiff behavior (especially pre-timeskip) and the way he switches between overly formal and awkwardly friendly in his interactions with people as he tries to figure out how to socially and emotionally navigate relationships really gives me the impression of someone trying desperately to fit in without even the faintest clue of how to actually manage that. He also does his best to avoid social situations, which, mood. Basically, Dimitri’s a big dumb massive introvert trying to act like he’s not.
FURTHERMORE, he is a dork. An absolute goof of a person. Dimitri canonically thinks so-bad-its-good puns and jokes are hilarious. His own style of telling jokes is saying things that may or may not have contextual humor in a normal voice and then claiming after the fact that he intended it as such. Now, his supports with Alois are absolute factual proof of the so-bad-its-good humor, but might I also direct your attention to the scene before the battle against Miklan in Conand Tower (the event name is “Tower in a Storm (Blue Lions)”). Basically, Gilbert is explaining the history behind Conand Tower and Dimitri says, in an incredibly earnest voice, “You’re very well informed, Gilbert. Please, tell us more.” This is a joke. Supposed to be, at least. The delivery is somewhat emphasized, but not in a recognizably sarcastic way. Gilbert, who knew Dimitri very well when he was young, realizes it’s a joke after a second. But there are other things Dimitri says that I believe are his bad “jokes” and since nobody knows him well enough to tell, they don’t call him on it. There’s no proof, but his line in the Lord’s intro where he says, “And here I thought you were acting as a decoy for the sake of us all.” to Claude has to be an attempt at sarcasm. Dimitri is oblivious, but not stupid. In his Goddess Tower conversation with Byleth, when discussing the topic of wishes, he says, “Perhaps it would make more sense for me to wish that we’ll be together forever. What do you think?” In a completely normal voice. Following are two speech bubbles of “...” before he laughs and proclaims that it’s just a joke and that he’s getting better at telling them. Now, this is a two-parter because I see this as both his horribly awkward tendency to say things he feels without thinking too hard beforehand as well as his silly deadpan style of “jokes”. Granted, he does apologize. Dimitri’s got socially awkward zoomer humor. It’s endearing.
Here is a video of Dimitri hitting on Byleth pre-timeskip. I’m not sure how far it goes to endear someone to him, but the mostly awkward and occasionally smooth attempts of Dimitri’s flirtations are absolutely a highlight of his character.
Now, this isn’t quite as cute as all that, but I think character arc and change do a lot for making a character feel more three-dimensional. Dimitri is hypocritically selfish. Although those are both negative terms, I don’t necessarily mean them as such, at least not in their totality. Both are things to overcome, which he does. And that’s why I feel like they’re a valid point of discussion when trying to explain the allure of his character.
The hypocritical part comes from the way he easily allows and forgives the flaws of others while constantly castigating himself for the same reasons. He says things that show an absurd amount of a lack of self-awareness. For example, he tells Edelgard, “Hm. You will prove a lacking ruler yourself if you look for deceit behind every word and fail to trust those whom you rely on.” All the while straight-up lying to and emotionally avoiding his friends. Dimitri also tells Marianne, when she is punishing herself for putting other people at risk, “What matters is that they came back safely in the end. You shouldn’t blame yourself for that.” Really, his C and B with Marianne is an exercise in hypocrisy. The standards Dimitri has for himself are incredibly, unattainably high. He’s setting himself up for failure in that way and, to an extent, knows what he’s doing because he knows that those same standards are too much for his friends and allies to meet. He wishes to take on everything himself. But, what I find so beautiful about this, is that Dimitri eventually realizes that he can’t do that. He is not strong enough to take on the weight of the world on himself, he comes to understand that it’s something he must allow himself to share with the people who care about him. He comes to realize that, as difficult as it is to accept, he is a weak person. Despite all of his introversion and inability to emotionally open up, he figures out that having a support system and allowing yourself to rely on people who love you is a necessity. Personally, I think this message is incredibly important in real life. Watching Dimitri come to that conclusion and argue it’s importance really rounded out his arc and journey as a person. Now, the relatability of this conclusion will differ, but I don’t think it has to do with his mental illness as much as it is a fundamental aspect of growth.
The selfishness is basically outlined above. Dimitri is selfish about his pain and secrets, purposefully and selfishly driving people away because he wants to keep the burden to himself. His vice is guilt and he indulges in the pain of it like an addiction. Hatred, too, is a drug. He thinks he needs it to keep going, even though all it does is bring agony to himself and others around him. Learning to accept and let go of these feelings is, again, something I think is important and a character arc that I really love, especially when you see him suffer as much as he does. Now, the execution of this is lacking, I admit. But that’s an issue for another time I think.
I am not quite sure if I did much to change your opinion, but this is all I can think of for now. There is probably a lot more than I’ve left out because I think about Dimitri far too much to be healthy. So, I’ll leave you off with some honorable mention aspects of his character that I think are super fun:
Pre-timeskip Dimitri has his hair tucked behind his ear. He can lift a wagon by himself. In the DLC, when faced with an impossible-to-open gate, it was not muscle man Balthus who said he couldn’t open it, but twinkish teen Dimitri. He’s not really smooth with one-liners. Like, at all. Notably, when attacking Manuela post-timeskip, he says, “Perhaps I should have appeared before you holding a bouquet of flowers, rather than the weapon that will end your life.” Adding to this, at one point, Dimitri fucked up a pick-up line so badly the girl came after him. Areadbhar has a mitten on it in the Azure Moon final picture. He breaks everything. His Crest activation ability even supports this, using twice the durability of any given Combat Art. One of his post-timeskip counselor messages is, “I lived in the slums for a long time, and I saw how the people there suffered from poverty and the ravages of war. There must be something I can do to save them." His room in the academy is right next to Sylvain’s, meaning that for almost an entire year Dimitri was a single wall away from hearing whatever nonsense Sylvain was getting up to. Dimitri is the only Lord that takes the throne and doesn’t abandon his people in some form or another.
And, finally, he is pretty sexy. And that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?
