GIVE ME A REASON: PART FOUR - A Rogue One Fanfic
So this part/scene got a little out of control. Ironically, since I only had the base idea of when it would take place until I started writing it. You can also find/read this story on AO3 now.
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Title: Give Me A Reason: Part Four
Genre: Hurt/Comfort
Characters: Jyn Erso POV, Cassian Andor
Pairing: Cassian/Jyn (mostly pre-ship?)
Spoilers: Rogue One; Episode IV A New Hope
Setting: Post-Rogue One AU (Cassian & Jyn live); Also during/post A New Hope
Warnings: Some sappiness?
Words: 2,978
Story Summary: Jyn’s entire universe has been turned on its head, so maybe she’s clinging a little too hard to the one thing she feels certain of (strangely enough) as she tries to figure out her place in the galaxy. And maybe she’s being a little overprotective of a wounded captain.
Also can be found on AO3.
...
“Ms. Erso, it is time for you to vacate the infirmary.”
Jyn jerked, jarred from sleep and reaching for the knife she no longer had on her person. Her situation settled back around her surfacing consciousness, calming her immediate fight-or-flight response but keeping her on edge.
“No,” she told the medical orderly droid. “I already told the doctors, medical staff and you lot that I’m not leaving Captain Andor. I don’t want him to wake up alone.”
“Yes. You were most clear regarding your intransigence, Ms. Erso.”
Droids had the worst attitudes. Shouldn’t med ones be programmed with a better bedside manner?
“But the bed is needed,” the droid went on when she just wanted it to go away so she could wallow in the overwhelming mix of emotions drowning her; loss, guilt, relief. “There are numerous incoming casualties from a skirmish in the Za’dan sector.”
Jyn scowled, but didn’t budge.
“What difference does it make if I leave? It’s not like I’m taking up an extra bed.” As if to prove her point, she shifted closer to Cassian in the infirmary cot, making her already petite body take up even less room.
“Captain Andor is to be processed for discharge. So you will keep your superfluous vow that he won’t wake up alone. Even though he wouldn’t be alone anyway. There are medical staff and med-droids present.”
Jyn was too alarmed by the droid’s revelation to mind the griping typical to its type.
“You’re discharging him?!” Jyn shifted, pushing herself up to study the unconscious man.
How well she knew every bruise and injury visible and many hidden by the white medical tunic and pants. She’d passed out herself from exhaustion as they began treating her injuries, but as soon as she’d woken up, she’d bullied, threatened and pleaded until they brought her to Cassian, making her wait outside the operating room, only able to watch as they finished the surgeries and treatments. They’d let her curl up in a chair next to the Bacta tank they’d stuck him in afterward, and no one even questioned by the time he was relocated to an infirmary bed when she climbed in beside him.
She’d seen the bandages, bruises, burns and scars. And she knew how they’d changed as the hours, the days had passed. Barely days, just three days since Scarif. Were they insane? They were just going to turn him out, in his condition?
Apparently, they were.
The med-droid was already injecting him with something, and Cassian was rousing. Jyn’s heart beat faster and she practically held her breath, on her knees on the edge of the bed, leaning forward with anticipatory anxiety, clutching at her kyber crystal with one hand. His past few hours of sleep had been strained. He’d been unconscious but also tense, in pain. She’d felt it in the rigidity of his muscles, the periodic hitches in his breathing.
“Did you give him more meds for the pain, too?” she asked the droid. How could they ask him to get back on his feet when he was in so much pain just lying still?
“Yes. And the stimulant should keep him awake until he gets settled back into his quarters.”
Jyn sagged in relief slightly until Cassian came crashing back into reality with a gasp and a jerk, and bewildered, began to thrash. She threw herself on top of him, placing her hands on his shoulders to hold him down, hoping he wouldn’t hurt himself worse, but understanding how confused and frightened he must feel.
“Cassian, It’s Jyn.” As if that would make a difference to him, if he even remembered her upon waking from a days-long practically-a-coma, someone he’d only met far less than a week ago and since had suffered devastating traumas. “You’re safe. You’re on the rebel base on Yavin 4. In the infirmary.”
Almost instantly, he went still, calmed, like a switch had been thrown. But she supposed the man did have quick reflexes, was highly adaptable to various situations. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have made it so long as a rebel spy.
“Jyn?” His eyes found her face. They were a little glassy and unfocused but were still, well, captivating, dark, intelligent and expressive. “What happened?”
“We did it.” She shifted back to kneeling beside him, gave him a smile, a genuine one albeit bittersweet. They had succeeded in their mission, but at a tremendous cost. “The plans to the Death Star were received by the fleet.”
“Are they planning an attack?” Cassian pushed himself up to a sitting position, wincing and inhaling sharply, making Jyn picture the freshly healed surgical incisions that were doubtless strained by the movement.
“I…” Jyn had never thought to ask. The moment she realized they weren’t going to die on that beach, making sure Cassian survived had become her only concern. “I don’t know.”
“I should report to Command.” Cassian moved to get out of the infirmary bed, but Jyn stopped him, grabbing his arm to hold him back. She shimmied across the bed and hopped off it to stand in front of him.
“If they needed any more information or intel, they would’ve asked me.” It sounded plausible, even though if they’d tried it, she couldn’t rightly say she would’ve cooperated (they hadn’t listened to her the last time she tried to convince them of the truth), but especially if it meant leaving Cassian’s side. Even for a moment. How had someone else become her primary, her only concern, that she now cared only for his welfare? “And you’re not in any shape to help. Give yourself a little more time to heal.”
She reached for him as he was already trying to stand, stiffening and wobbling for a moment when he was fully upright. But Jyn would support him without him needing to ask, slid her arms around his waist and tucked her shoulder under one of his arms. He leaned into her, likely without even realizing it. From what Jyn could tell, Cassian was an independent sort of person, like herself, but unlike herself, was not too proud to accept help, being more of a team player than she ever had been.
His fingers went to pinch the bridge of his nose and his eyes squeezed shut. He took a long, deep breath, swaying a little.
“How far are your quarters from the infirmary?” she asked.
He sighed. That close, was it?
“Can you make it? If I help you?” Jyn looked around, but the droid had already stripped the bed and skittered off. She would go find whatever he needed for assistance because maybe he was a little proud, too, and had sacrificed a good portion of his independence by leaning on her. She waited, letting him decide, despite her wanting to wrap him up in soft warm blankets in a fluffy bed of pillows and keep him safe.
“Let’s try it. I should probably find out how bad the damage is sooner than later.” His expression had gone tight and unreadable, and her heart broke to think of the justified fear he must be feeling, that he may have suffered permanent damage that could affect the rest of his life, that might take away his purpose of serving the rebellion.
“They healed the blaster wound easily, but you’ve got an impressive scar,” she said as he took a tentative step, using her like a crutch, not questioning why or how she knew his wounds and medical diagnosis and treatments. “The fractures in your vertebrae and ribs probably haven’t completely knitted yet but the prognosis is good.”
Well, this wasn’t so bad. His weight was a burden making her own steps difficult, but Jyn didn’t begrudge it, not when it meant he was alive, and on his feet even. And they were already at the infirmary door. The medical staff hadn’t given them even a second look, but Jyn steeled herself for the possibility of stares as they entered the rest of the base. She couldn’t care less but these were Cassian’s fellow soldiers and he deserved their respect and not pity.
“They replaced your hip and part of your femur,” she said when they entered the hallway.
“Is that why it feels like I’ve been sliced open from my ribs down to my knee?”
“They sealed you back up.”
A light chuckle escaped him. “Things could be worse, then.”
They could, they really could. If Jyn were to make comparisons, it wasn’t just the fact that they hadn’t died on Scarif like it seemed they should’ve, but this situation she found herself in, saddled with a wounded spy (by her own choosing), on a rebel base, a Death Star out there somewhere in the galaxy… It was still the best place she’d been in since… Since she was abandoned by Saw at 16? Since her mother had died and her father had been taken?
Part of her that enjoyed the warmth of Cassian’s body beside hers, the feel of his wiry flank beneath her hand, the smell of his skin, even the weight of him he placed on her shoulders, that part proposed that this was the best situation, the best time in her entire life.
How pathetic did that make her?
She enjoyed dragging a severely wounded man around some giant old ruins half-reclaimed by the jungle converted to a military base… sort of base… The Alliance was so loosely confederated, everything seemed slapped together and piecemeal.
But hopefully the medical facilities had been up to par… They had seemed nicer than anything Jyn had ever experienced. But that wasn’t saying much at all.
“You need a minute?” she asked, finally realizing Cassian’s steps and breathing had become labored. She maneuvered him towards a wall and leaned up against it with him, nodding to a passing rebel soldier of indeterminable rank and unnotable appearance.
“Maybe it would’ve been better if you’d left me on Scarif,” he said, his voice low, quiet and pained as he almost-panted, sagging against the ancient stone wall.
“No,” she said. “You don’t mean that.”
“I was ready to die.”
She didn’t want to hear this. The meds and the strain were making him say things. She told him as much.
He shook his head.
“Listen to me, Jyn.”
What could she do? What could she say? That she didn’t want to hear how he valued his life so little, that he’d throw it away just for the slim chance of providing an opportunity for the rebellion to destroy some Imperial weapon, a terrifying one, but one weapon of many. She-
“I felt peace. For the first time in my life, probably.” His voice had gotten even lower and quieter, almost a whisper, wistful even. Jyn didn’t dare look at him, had to concentrate on breathing normally when she felt his fingers slip into her hand. It was easier to consider her unsolicited affection for the man when he was giving no indication of whether or not he returned it. “And I think it was because you were there. For the first time in longer than I can remember, I didn’t feel alone.”
Oh, Force. He was getting delirious, saying things that, from what she knew of him, he would never share even if he did feel them.
“Come on, let’s get you back to your own bed.”
He didn’t say anything else as they traversed several more halls, and Jyn wondered if she’d hurt his feelings by not responding to his raw, quiet confession. But he continued to lean on her without any hesitation and the silence between them felt comfortable. It was strange. He’d made her so tense in the beginning, the way he watched her, how secretive he was, so guarded. But somehow, somewhere along the way, she grew to not only feel comfortable with Cassian Andor, but to trust him as she’d never trusted anyone else before.
And she thought, maybe he trusted her in return. He followed her on a suicide mission, let her support his injured, vulnerable self on Scarif, let her drag him off that cursed planet, and now lead him across the rebel base, passing by people who really amounted to the only family he’d ever had.
There weren’t many, however. And none stopped. Or stared, too much. The med droid must have been right about the incoming survivors of the skirmish, everyone seemed a little rushed and mission-oriented. Or maybe there was more going on…
“Stop. Stop.”
Jyn immediately froze.
“Are you okay?” she asked, shifting beneath Cassian’s weight to try to get a good look at his face. “Do you need a break?”
“We’re home,” Cassian said, his eyelids sliding nearly shut before they shot open again.
“Oh,” Jyn said, ignoring the way something fluttered inside of her over his choice of words. “Which one?”
“Left side of the hall.” He indicated the door directly to their left with a nod of his head. The stimulant must be failing to combat the pain meds, and his body’s need to rest, to heal. Because he was getting heavier and more slack in her arms.
They staggered over to the door to his quarters and he was at least coherent enough to punch his code into the lock. His room was by no means large, barely larger than Jyn’s cell on Wobani. But at least he didn’t have a cellmate, er, bunkmate… Well, not officially…
She basically dumped him on the narrow bed, which he didn’t seem to mind at all, making a groaning sound of relief and taking several deep breaths, his legs hanging awkwardly off the side. Not knowing what else to do, she bent to lift his legs and slide them onto the bed, forcing him to lay down in a less uncomfortable position. She pulled the white slip-on infirmary shoes off his feet and tossed them in a corner, feeling only a flash of contrition over sullying the pristine room. It was so austere, even with two of the walls comprised of the old stone of the ancient temple. It could’ve been anyone’s quarters. No. That was wrong. It’s nondescriptness, everything hidden away in the meager storage units, only Cassian would keep his personal space in such a spartan manner.
“Cassian…?”
He mumbled something she took to imply he was listening and not passed out yet.
“Do you have extra bedding? A blanket or something?” She could do without. She had, many times. But it would be a little bit better than sleeping on the bare hard stone floor.
“No… Jungle moon… Already too hot… Why?”
“I was going to sleep here, if you don’t mind,” Jyn said. Why was this an awkward conversation to have? Why was she so afraid he’d say no, send her away? “On the floor.”
His eyes opened and that furrow formed between his brows as he studied her with a gaze that seemed to be having trouble focusing. But then he was scooching over until he was almost touching the wall.
“I think this is a nanometer larger than the infirmary cot,” he said. “What do you think?”
Jyn tried not to smile as she kicked off her own flimsy infirmary shoes and climbed onto Cassian’s bed to stretch out beside him. Something inside her sighed, content. She didn’t let it out.
“I don’t know…” she said. “But I guess if they made the infirmary beds nicer than the barracks, they’d have sick rebels all the time.”
A chuckle escaped through his nose.
“I don’t think they usually offer an ángel as a companion, either.”
“What?” Jyn shifted onto her side to study his face. His eyes were closed and he seemed content. The pain meds must be working.
“My mother was a believer in an Ancient Festian religion that worshipped a creator god. I don’t remember very many specifics...” Jyn didn’t dare breathe out, afraid of interrupting the story, softly spoken with hints of nostalgia, sharing a childhood memory, an intimacy she knew Cassian permitted, well, probably no one. “Except, there were these creatures that did the creator’s bidding, guiding people, aiding them, saving them… Angeles… I don’t know the word in Basic…”
He looked at her, and her apprehension about breaking the spell ebbed. Cassian knew full well who he was talking to, even if the pain meds had loosened his tongue, broken down the rigid walls he kept around his private self.
“I don’t know the word, either,” Jyn said. “I’’ve never heard of such creatures, mythical or otherwise.”
Cassian laughed, a soft little rumble that was accompanied by that rare smile of his that was brighter than a yellow dwarf sun and warmed her just as well. But, “What’s funny about that?”
“You…” His hand found hers, fingers sliding against her palm to curl around hers, engulfing her smaller hand. He shifted to face her, wincing a little, but his expression was soft if serious and . “Jyn, you saved me, guided me, are still coming to my aid… You’re my angelita…”
Oh, shit, he was so tired and drugged up he was becoming incoherent. Hopefully, he wouldn’t remember saying such emotional things- oh.
He brought her hand to his lips and kissed the back of her knuckles, making her swallow a gasp of surprise, and fight the sigh when he held her hand to his chest as he lay back, his eyelids finally losing the battle and sliding shut.
Oh, Cassian…
“Don’t worship me,” she whispered to his sleeping form. “I’m nothing worth venerating.”
Of course, was she behaving any different when it came to him?
They were quite the mess, the two of them.
She wriggled her fingers in his hold until she was able to interlace them with his and feel the warmth of his palm against hers. Jyn closed her eyes, immersing herself in the quiet, safe moment.

Isolation is the one thing Rey knows best, so it’s the only thing that makes sense to her when she falls back into reliance on her survival instincts.
She tries the desert planet of her mentor.
The sand is all too familiar between her toes and in her teeth. The biting wind turns her cheeks to raw skin. The heat warms her whole body to a pink color, the flush on her cheeks fabricated from a sunburn.
It isn’t long before Rey remembers...she hates the sand.
And she feels the green calling out to her, night after night, when the desert cold settles in, chilling her down to the marrow.
It takes a while, but finally, Rey answers.
It is a siren song, reminding her of Han Solo’s warm smile as she took in the sight of a new planet for the first time. She can hear his voice ringing in her ears as she drives the Falcon towards a planet that screams brightly at her through the Force. She can smell the foliage through her connection with the life force of the entire galaxy; it calls to her with a voice as soft as the petals of an Anagallis flower.
As her feet touch the ground and fresh blades of grass split between her toes, she feels a wave of nausea force her to her knees.
Find me. Please, find me.
Rey covers her ears with her hands and pushes herself back to her full height. She winces at the familiar voice, tears surfacing in her eyes immediately while his words resonate in her mind.
“You’re gone,” she spits, angry with herself for falling so quickly back into hope. Still, she searches frantically for even the muted blue glow of the Force somewhere in the distance.
She sleeps in the Falcon with her staff tucked underneath a pillow. The low hum of the kyber crystal lulls her to sleep at night, drowning the voice reverberating in her head.
Every morning she finds herself something for breakfast - either a fish from the nearby river or a little animal in the woods - and she cooks it just under the shield of the Falcon, sitting on a log and picking under her fingernails when she’s done.
She thinks of how he might critique her, how he would despise the way she’s living. He means well, of course. Or rather meant well, given he can’t mean anything anymore. Even still, Rey swears that she can feel his heart beating in the background of her soul, pushing her forward each day with it’s strong song.
He starts to come to her in her dreams.
She decides to leave the green planet and find another.
--
This time it is blue.
Blue like his saber. Blue like his soul. Blue like his light.
All she can remember of him is blue.
Rey swallows thickly as she steps down from the Falcon’s steps to traverse onto the new planet, trying to shed her old skin like a reptile, moving on into the next step of her life.
As soon as her feet touch solid ground, something buckles in the Force.
Her heart beats heavy in her chest and sweat beads on her forehead. Rey feels a throbbing at the back of her mind, pulsing like a heartbeat. She follows where the Force leads, beckoning her closer to the edge of the planet, closer to the blue sea.
Her toes dip in when she hears his voice echo in the wind, “Find me. I’m here.”
Tears fall down her cheeks just as they always do when she hears his voice calling out to her like a dream. She shakes her head and water falls from the sky. Rey falls to her knees, digging her hands in the sand, water up to her elbows.
“I can’t fool myself any longer,” she cries out to the ocean. Her eyes burn with saltwater, “No more tricks, no more lies. Please. I’m tired.”
And then it’s no longer blue, but black.
Hollow, cold blackness.
Rey has felt this before - on Ahch-To, when the deep called to her then. Master Luke admonished her for her flailing towards the sadness that ironically gave her hope. She should feel scared, frightened even, but all she can taste is the honeyed thought of home just against the tip of her tongue. It begs for her to swallow, to allow the warmth to seep into her bones.
Instead, she meets the chill of the ocean. The tide rises and steam billows from the difference in temperature. Her heart hammers in her chest, eyes fluttering behind thin lids. Rey stands back to her feet, trousers soaked to her knees.
She remembers how she is supposed to be afraid of the dark, to scamper from it. Her limbs should be shuddering and her heart should be a block of ice in her ribs but all she feels is temptation and heat.
Rey swallows drily, her mouth turned to sandpaper, and then she dives.
--
She isn’t sure how she can breathe under the water. Maybe that’s the Force too.
Either way, Rey pushes herself until she gets to the part of the water that numbs her body. It brings her closer to the pulsing until her mind cannot focus, cannot feel anything but the Force overwhelming her, begging her to dive deeper.
Rey is afraid that if she dives too far, she may never come up for air.
Was this what Master Luke warned her about?
She does not have time to think because her fingertips brush over the hilt of a saber in the murky sand below. Rey’s fingertips wrap around the base of the saber and it is one she knows all too well - the cross-guard is unmistakable.
As both hands touch the hilt of the lightsaber, Rey is thrown backward against a jagged rock somewhere at the bottom of the ocean. The base of her neck cracks against the rock and her body falls limp into the sand.
A few bubbles part from her lips and then everything goes black.
--
“Foolish Jedi,” a voice murmurs, warm and gentle. “I suppose you’re not really a Jedi though now, are you?”
Rey feels her hair brushed away from her face and she wants to force her eyes open because she’s afraid she may be in danger, but her body won’t listen.
The voice is deep, rough from disuse, “I’m not sure how you found me. I’ve been calling to you.”
The voice is one from her dreams.
“Ben?” her voice cracks.
Rey wills her eyelids to open and she swears he is a dream. Or a nightmare.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he speaks, and she realizes his hands are against her neck and waist, just like the day he died. Tears spring to her eyes and Rey lurches forward, ducking her head into his neck. She will not take for granted their time, even if he is a figment instead of reality.
His arms wrap around her and he feels solid, but she won’t be tricked. He has been an imaginary thing in her mind for far too long for her to start trusting herself now.
“I’m here,” his voice echoes as if he were reading her mind.
Which, if she were to think too hard about it, he probably is. He’s been in her mind since the day he removed his mask and bared his soul to her. She grits her teeth and forces herself to look him in the eyes.
He is dark, but he is also light.
His clothes are all varying shades of black, and his eyes are deep, ebony to match his hair. However, the light in his irises, the hope in his voice - it all balances.
“I can’t take this,” her voice wobbles, but her hands find solid skin when she touches his torso. “This sick dream has turned into a nightmare and you haunt me. Can’t I be free of this pain?”
Rey’s words echo his from all those years ago - words he wailed to Han Solo before the flash of red and singed flesh filled the desolate air.
Ben looks over her frantically, as if trying to put together a puzzle she can’t quite see. He brushes the back of his palm over her cheek and she is reminded of the feel of his own skin under the pads of her fingers as he flashed her his final smile.
“Please, Ben,” her voice breaks. Rey sniffles and her shoulders shake.
He shakes his head, “I don’t know what to tell you, Rey. You found me. I thought you would be free of the pain that has clouded you since Exegol.”
“F-Found?” Rey echoes.
Her big, brown eyes look up at him like a confused animal and he has to fight back the desire to chuckle between his lips.
Instead, he nods, “Yes. I’ve been stuck in this, uh, this world between worlds of sorts. I can’t get out - at least not alone.”
Once she understands, it’s as if her whole world has turned back right-side up. Rey’s beaming smile returns and Ben feels his heart expand in his chest so much so that he fears his ribs may hurt, but he doesn’t care.
“I found you,” she repeats, her hands on his cheeks now.
All she can think about is his mouth, his touch. She wants to drown in it, like she did the ocean. Her hand flexes, remembering the lightsaber.
“Your saber.” Rey turns frantically, searching for the weapon. She swallows before turning back to him, “When I touched it, that is what brought me here.”
Ben blinks one time too many before focusing back on her face again. He shakes his head, “No matter. It’s a relic of a dead man, passed away when you healed me.”
As if seeing him for the first time, Rey draws the tip of her index finger down where his scar used to be - where Kylo used to be. The splitting of his soul in two.
“I didn’t even notice,” she murmurs, eyelids threatening to close with the nearness of him intoxicating her. She sighs and he chuckles just loud enough for her to hear him.
Ben is quiet for a moment, drinking her in slowly like she might disappear any second now. Rey does not break his eye contact, her soul unwilling to be apart from him again.
“I’m not sure how to get out,” he tells her, tone heady.
She watches as his lower lip trembles and she wonders what it would feel like against her own mouth. Rey looks around, breaking eye contact with him for a mere moment.
When her gaze returns to his, he’s instilled with a confidence he’s not sure he’s ever possessed.
“We’ll figure it out - together.”
It has been a long time since Ben Solo knew he could count on anyone other than Kylo Ren.
He’s not quite sure when this scavenger dug her own hole in his heart, but he knows better than to push her away. Instead, he tucks her further into his arms, heart beating wildly against the fabric of his shirt.
“I like the sound of that,” he mumbles, eyes flitting closed as his lips find hers for the first time in too long.
Rey loses herself in the taste of his lips, the feel of his body. His arms are around her like a cage, securing her so she won’t fall apart again.
She’s not quite sure when trusting him became second nature, but she knows better than to push him away. Instead, she grips him by the collar and the jaw and bruises his mouth with her own.
And for the third time, Ben Solo and Rey work together to fight a common enemy.

Watched Phantom Menace and now I have ideas. *kicks plunnies away* Since I lack any motivation to actually write (not to mention I’m a very slow writer), I’m posting my thoughts in the hope someone else will run with it. *begs*
The Jedi Council refuses to train Anakin following the invasion of Naboo. Obi-Wan is committed to keeping his final promise to Qui-Gon, and leaves the Order. His initial plan is to take Anakin back to Tattooine for training, the idea being that Obi-Wan can train him anywhere and this way Anakin can stay close to his mother. Also according to one of Anakin’s stories, there’s a cave full of Kyber crystals that the Order either doesn’t know or has forgotten about (he needs a new crystal since his lightsaber was lost fighting Maul and Anakin will need one soon enough). Anakin hates the idea, has no intention of returning except to free his mother. He wants to stay on Naboo of course, he’s being spoiled rotten by Padme, her handmaidens and the rest of the palace staff. Obi-Wan is concerned about wearing out their welcome during such a trying time and how he’d support the both of them, eventually they’d have to leave the palace. He contemplates going back to Coruscant, he has plenty of contacts and opportunities for employment, not to mention being close to the Temple if it’s needed, but something in the Force doesn’t like that idea.
“If you could go anywhere in the entire galaxy, where would you go?” Anakin asks him.
The answer in Obi-Wan’s mind is immediate.
He’s no longer a Jedi. He’s not holding Anakin strictly to the Code, specifically the part about attachments, there’s no reason he has to abide by it either. He could choose love this time and still keep his commitments.
“Mandalore. I would go to Mandalore.”
Anakin loves this idea, a few Mandalorians have come through Watto’s shop and he thinks the armor is wizard and can he learn how to be that too? (He’s 9, he wants to do and be lots of things, especially things make him more powerful, and Obi-Wan realizes quickly he’s got to do something about that or he’ll have a Sith on his hands. So therapy, if Mandalore has such a thing.)
Padme sends them away with a ship, some money, new clothes for both of them, a comm with a promise to keep in touch. It’s enough money to free Shmi, so they stop at Tatooine. More than enough actually, because Watto is desperate for money to cover the bets he lost on the Boonta Eve Classic. Obi-Wan wants to strangle Anakin because he neglected to mention the krayt dragons that lived in the kyber crystal cave and Obi-Wan doesn’t have a lightsaber. (They do get crystals, after a bit of difficulty to get past the dragons.)
The three of them get to Sundari and Satine welcomes him back, helps them get settled, employed and Anakin in school.
When ol’ Sheev’s Sithly ass eventually shows up thinking he’s going to snatch an untrained Anakin away for Sith training, he’s faced with Mandolorian Skywalkers and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Duke Consort of Mandalore wielding the Dark Saber.
That’s where the idea pretty much fizzles out for me. I don’t see any universe where either Skywalker ends up a pacifist (Anakin’s too angry and aggressive, Shmi as a free person wouldn’t hesitate to violently defend herself, her family and others), so I see them embracing something closer to True Mandolorian culture (in my limited understanding of it), which are probably the Mandolorians they’ve met on Tatooine. I have no idea how Obi-Wan ends up with the Dark Saber, maybe Death Watch attacks and since he’s the one that’s actually a trained lightsaber duelist (and a top one at that), he wins it. Haven’t figured out where Korkie fits into this, if he’s just Satine’s nephew or if he’s Obitine’s love child. I don’t know Satine’s character enough to know what to do with her or Bo-Katan. Anakin and Padme would still get together, it’s a happier relationship since he’s in a better place mentally and they don’t have to hide. He is going to give the Jedi that protects her from Jango Fett’s assasination attempts absolute hell (and probably Jango himself too).
Well, that’s a lot more than I thought I had… 🤨😳 So there it is, Obi-Wan and Anakin living their best life away from the Jedi after TPM, if anyone wants it.

If Kylo’s lightsaber (being unstable) is a reflection of himself then what happens to it if he finally accepts himself as Ben Solo, his family, and is redeemed? I would imagine (and ally of people have agreed) that there will probably be a “Death and Rebirth” happening to him and I wonder how his lightsaber is gonna reflect that...I have seen people suggest that his lightsaber will purifies and it’ll turn to white but I also see people argue that his current lightsaber is too iconic to change.
I’ve actually thought about this more lately after getting a few lightsaber related asks, but I STILL haven’t been able to settle on a theory or headcanon about it that feels COMPLETELY satisfying to me. I think the ONLY reason I’m struggling is due to what you mentioned, “his current lightsaber is too iconic to change.” It’s a sexy weapon and I love seeing him use it.
Tumblr media
I CAN’T LET GO!! It’s just TOO good! 🔥HOWEVER at the same time I agree that it almost HAS TO change once he is “officially” redeemed and no longer “on the dark side” since, as you say, it very much reflects the tumultuous instability of Ben’s persona, Kylo Ren, which he will need to “rise above” in TRoS. SO with the (difficult) acceptance that his saber, more than likely, WILL change what are our options?
The crystal could be purified and he could have a white saber with a cross guard that isn’t janky. Although I think the whole point of the cross guard bit was because it needed “venting” since the crystal was SO unstable, so maybe it would just be a “normal” looking white saber then without the cross? Kinda lame but, okay. Maybe they would fudge the mechanics and he would keep the cross guard which would still be cool? Love the knight symbolism.
BUT what honestly feels THE MOST correct and poetic to me personally is that his current lightsaber is destroyed (perhaps in a battle on Mustafar where Vader was “created”....OMFG Ben could finally renounce his persona there and Kylo Ren would “die” where Vader was “born” I JUST BLEW MY OWN MIND!!!!! Sorry back to the saber.) and he ends up reclaiming the Skywalker Legacy saber like he wanted to do back in TFA.
Tumblr media
As I said in this other post about the legacy saber, it would be a HUGE foreshadowing payoff (which I love) and it would also represent Ben reclaiming and accepting his family’s past as the final (current) Skywalker heir. There’s also really nice symbolism of the saber being something Rey has repaired and something that she has been protecting while Ben struggles to break away from the darkness. 🖤
Tumblr media
Yes, I like it. Since we probably HAVE TO loose the sexy danger saber my theory/hope is that he reclaims the legacy saber, once redeemed, as is his birthright. Then their next adventure could be finding kyber so Rey can craft her own personal saber! Saber staff anyone?

The “Present” (Phux)
Tumblr media
@kyber-hearts-and-stardust-souls
(So, after I saw this post, ideas began to swirl in my head like crazy. And I wanted to write it. Also, Pudge will make a cameo.)
London, England, 1920 something. Armitage Hux has just finished his set at the Starkiller Lounge, and was grateful that it was finally finished. It wasn’t that he had anything against sharing his jazz music or playing his saxophone, it was just a rather long night. He wanted nothing more than to get a good night’s sleep, so he packed up his instrument, said good night to the bartender and staff, and made his way back to his car. Just as soon as he arrived at his Packard, he heard someone yell out “Oi, bloke!” only to get knocked out. The last thing he remembered was falling to the ground as everything faded to black...
“‘Ey lads, Sleepin’ Beauty’s comin’ around!” someone said in a thick Scottish brogue, which was followed by raucous laughter. Armitage finally came to his senses when he felt trapped by something- he was tied to a chair, rendered immobile, and his saxophone case was strewn on the floor, half-open.
“I demand to know what’s going on!” he yelled in panic, trying to set himself free from his prison of rope. “Let me go!”
“You don’t tell us what to do around ‘ere, mate! We only answers to Big Joe, savvy?” another goon said, circling Hux like a shark. The name hit him- Big Joe. He let out a groan when he realized he was captured by none other than the Parnassos Gang, and he was going to have to come face to face with the infamous leader, Big Joe Phasma. Sure enough, heavy footsteps were heard as the lackeys scrambled about, trying to make themselves appear to be acceptable for when he came in.
“You sit tight and shut yer piehole, boyo!” the Scot from earlier yelled at Hux, who felt his pulse race as the footsteps grew louder and louder. The lackeys stood very still now, as if they were soldiers at attention, when he finally came down the stairs and into the den. Big Joe wasn’t exactly what Armitage though he was going to look like- he expected an obese man smoking a cigar. Instead, a tall, silver haired, and slender man, almost needle-like, walked down the stairs, taking a long drag from a cigarette. When he looked towards Hux, he smiled and let out a booming laugh.
“Well, gentlemen, you managed to get the right one after all. So, this is the famous Armitage Hux my daughter has heard so much about, eh?” he said with a sneer. Mustering up the courage to reply to him, Armitage swallowed his pride and looked the mobster straight in the eye.
“Did you think there was another?” he said defiantly. Insulted, Big Joe backhanded him, causing Armitage to wince.
“Listen to me, boy. You may be cheeky with me now, but I won’t allow it tonight, you savvy? Today’s me darlin’ daughter’s 18th birthday, and she wouldn’t stop blabbing about how wonderful you was. Now, once you come ta yer senses, you’ll get right cleaned up, put on yer white tie an’ tails, an’ give me girl the one thing she’s always dreamed of. Are we clear now, love?”
Armitage sighed heavily, looking over at the pristine white tie get-up reserved for him at the side. He was going to have to go along with him if he wanted to get out of this alive. “As crystal.”
“Good boy,” Big Joe teased, undoing his ropes. “But don’t try nothin’ fishy, ya hear?” he scolded as Armitage sighed in relief. After the confrontation with Big Joe Phasma, the most feared man in Brixton, Armitage prayed that he would make it out of the den alive. A few hours later, Armitage stepped behind the dressing screen provided for him in his elegant outfit and stood on the makeshift stage, warming up for the evening’s performance. A small sextet was arranged behind him and were warming up their instruments as well- probably more musicians that were kidnapped, Hux figured. Big Joe came back down the stairs, holding his cigarette as usual, but this time he held a revolver in the other hand.
“You better make good on this, boy, otherwise yer doomed ta spend the rest of yer life down here, ya savvy?” he hissed, poking Hux with the butt of his revolver. Hux nodded, before heaving a sigh. “All right, Brienne lovely, come on down! Daddy has one ‘ell of a surprise fer ya!” he yelled in a saccharine voice Hux couldn’t think he was capable of doing without spontaneously combusting. There was the sound of high heeled shoes gently clicking which grew louder and closer with every step.
“Alright, Daddy, I just Marcelled my hair a while ago, hold your horses!” Hux heard a voice call out. “I swear, if it’s a Tommy gun, I’m not going to be pleased. I mean I already have a pistol, and... that’s not a Tommy gun,” the voice said, slightly shocked. Finally, the source of the voice was revealed as a tall, beautiful young woman exactly the same age as Hux. Her silver fringed dress showed off her legs, and her short blonde hair was styled in a perfect Marcel wave. Ruby nails gently pet a Persian cat with luxurious white fur, which purred gently as they surveyed the guests assembled. Beautiful sapphire eyes outlined in smoky black kohl glanced over at the stage, and ruby lips were parted into a prim “ooh.”
“Brienne, sweetness, Daddy found you the best birthday gift ever,” Big Joe said, still maintaining that syrupy voice that both Brienne and Armitage winced at. Brienne was shocked to see Armitage mouth “help, he kidnapped me,” but she focused on her father instead. So, she put on an act of surprise while she devised a plan to help send Armitage home.
“Oh, Daddy, thank you so much! This is the best birthday ever!” she squealed, doing a near perfect imitation of Betty Boop as she peppered her father’s sharp cheekbones with a barrage of kisses. Big Joe turned to the musicians and putting on a false smile began to address them.
“Okay boys, strike up the band and give my girl the party she’s dreamed of- or else!” he said with a hiss, before waving his arms in imitation of a conductor. Immediately, Armitage and the other musicians began playing a lively Charleston as the birthday girl and the other young ladies present proceeded to let out a cheer and head to the dance floor, kicking up their heels and whooping as they danced.
Armitage stepped forward and started playing a melodic solo on his alto sax, the golden instrument shining in the light of the room. The girls seemed to dance closer to the stage, just to revel in the notes he played for them, and he shot a wink at Brienne, her face now becoming a light shade of pink as she blushed. The song finished to wild applause, and then the music changed to a sensual tango. Brienne looked wistfully to Hux, who set his saxophone down and got offstage to dance with her.
“So, my father kidnapped you?” she asked him innocently.
“Well, yes, and I really want to get home,” he replied.
“I don't blame you, he always does things like that. Here’s the thing- I can create a diversion, and we can get out together as soon as possible without him noticing. Also, I’ll just call the cops, and hopefully they’ll finally put him to justice!” she whispered.
“Plotting against your own father? Interesting,” Hux replied as he and Brienne continued to tango.
“Well, he’s a terrible person, and I’d rather be living with my mother in Sussex anyway.” The music ended, and with that, Armitage dramatically dipped Brienne, much to her joy.
“Good luck,” he whispered to her as he got back on stage. The band played a soft fox trot as Brienne made her way upstairs, ready to create a distraction of her own. She sneaked into her father’s study and took one of the many Tommy guns he had so generously given her for her birthday, and began to shoot a round of blanks, calling the police afterwards. For good measure, she added a scream of terror as she came running down the stairs.
“Daddy, it’s the Bala-Tik gang! They’ve shown up and want to brawl!” she gasped, pretending to be hysterical. Everyone in the room screamed and began to hurry away from the basement in fear of an impending brawl. Armitage packed up his saxophone and grabbed his clothes, running upstairs in the fray. Just as soon as he made it up and with Brienne, police sirens wailed as the cops pulled up to the house. Big Joe was angry- he was duped by his own daughter!
“Brienne?! How dare you lie to me?!” he roared, almost about to strike her. But she stood her ground, refusing to be scared as he yelled.
“Listen, you’ve done this for far too long! You killed Keldo, you stole my inheritance, you kidnapped and tortured too many people, and you killed my REAL father!” she screamed. “I hate you, you monster!” she yelled, as she watched the mobster and his cronies get carted off to prison, where they were never heard from again. She began to sob quietly, sad that her fortune was being used for criminal means, and she would never get it back. Armitage gently held her, letting her cry in peace.
“Brienne, are you alright?” he asked her.
“N-no. I have nothing. The cops are probably gonna raid the mansion, and I can’t contact my mother yet. What am I supposed to do?” she asked.
“Well... you could stay with me for a while, if that would make you happy,” he said. Gently, Brienne hugged Armitage, as she pressed a kiss to his cheek gently.
“Thank you so much, Armitage, You’re one of the few people who’s truly been kind to me.” Just as Brienne predicted, the police came to raid the mansion- but there was a silver lining. The man who claimed to be her father was sentenced to life in prison with no hope of escape, and both the mansion and inheritance were reverted back to Brienne and her true mother. But the true gift that came from the whole ordeal was the society wedding of Armitage Hux and Brienne Phasma, and they stayed together for many long, happy years.

If you were in charge of giving the characters makeovers for 9, what would make the most sense for you artistically?
Ok, when doing designs, I try to give a sense of the personnality, sense and history behind a character.
Tumblr media
Rey: After living for years on a planet like Jakku, she wear warmer clothes since she is still not used to temperatures changes due to the different climates she is confronted since joining the Resistance. Her outfit is getting worn out after all the skirmishes.
Her hair are shorter. It’s partially braided with two buns. (Leïa’s influence on her hairstyle maybe???)
I’m trying to give a sense that while being a fighter, she was not necessiraly meant to be a soldier and the she’s not invulnerable. Her face is worn out. She has a scar on her face, probably obtained while fighting the KOR, showing that she still lack of prudence in battle, at least at the time.
Anakin’s lightsaber has been broken, the explosion provoked by it in the throne room imply that the Kyber Crystal has been damaged by the force-pull causing an explosion strong enough it knocked out Kylo & Rey. Rey is a tinkerer and might decide to use part of Anakin’s lightsaber & incorparate it in her own signature weapons. Rey now wield lightsaber pike/staff. The handle part is retractable which gives her a lot of different ranges, making her a tricky adversary to fight (if you want an example of how the weapon is meant to be used, watch that KOTOR trailer)
She also built a shoto lightsaber, mostly use for close-combat that she can lend to Finn.
Finn: We can feel he is kinda experimenting with his haircut after having to deal with the stormtrooper regular one.
The scarf gives him a traveling vibe. The jacket has an officer rank insignia, showing that he found his place in the Resistance & that he has authority on other soldiers.
He carries a rifle and a vibro-blade is holstered at his leg. He also canceal a blaster as a sidearm behind his jacket.
Tumblr media
Rose: I really don’t like her brown outfit (tbh there is too much shades of brown in the Resistance, it feels that the most important characters don’t have signature outfits) so I updated it to a grey/blue jumpsuit. She has been promoted as chief mechanical engineer.
She carries her working tools and a blaster is also holstered to her hip. Working googgles are attached to her cap.
Her face still sport some scars from when the time she saved Finn on Craït since the Falcon prob didn’t have the materials necessary to properly patch her up.
Poe: He wear an officer dress uniform under a jacket. His design is supposed to remind us of aviators of WW1-WW2 aviators.
An holstered blaster is concealed to his hip.
Tumblr media
Kylo: As a Supreme Leader, I tried to gives him a more professional, regal looking design without having him losing his rough essence. His outfit is a bit more angular. His hair are shorter. His eye is blind due to the damage inflicted by Rey’s slashing his face.
Hux: As you can see the added details on his outfit, Hux became Grand Marshal but it wasn’t without challenging: Snoke was the one who gave him the power of a Grand Marshal despite being a General but with his death, Hux lost that power, creating chaos among High Command with factions forming within the FO, making Hux a target. He and Kylo managed to restablish order but it still left Hux scarred with a cut on his cheek after avoiding an assassination attempt.
His hair are starting to becoming white too early because of the constant pressure he is under (and also a nod to Rae Sloane, my fav EU character)
Hux is also showing off his weapon as a warning to his ennemies.

dark cacao kingdom but star wars-ified
sIf George Lucas saw this post he would probably explode
SECTION ONE: CHARACTERS
1. Dark Cacao
dark cacao is a member of the jedi council and a jedi master! he practices form 7, and the forms he mastered to be able to practice that were forms 5, 4, and 2. similar to the rest of the jedi council (minus white lily, whom i will expand on later), he’s in charge of a kingdom on his home planet, which is named after himself because he’s just so silly. same as in crk canon, at some point in his life he acquired a son whom he began to train as his successor! overall, he’s an incredible jedi with just. generally amazing lightsaber combat skill, but he’s one of those jedi that is sort of questioned over their more dark-side leaning tactics. he really is a nice guy! he’s just sort of emo and people are like oh my god im scared of emos yknow. 2. Dark Choco (knowing smile) so as has been shown in that one official art we got of him dark choco and kylo ren parallels are so insanely there. Similar scars and everything. Oh my goodness hee hee kicks my feet around. Overall probably practices form 5 mainly but he always wanted to learn form 7. overall some. stuff happened between him and his dad and he never got to finish his training. now that he’s with the COD he’s a sith that uses force lightning like. A lot probably more than is reasonably healthy for him. Also his lightsaber is like. fucked up but i’ll expand on that in a ‘how the existing storyline has been translated to star wars’ thing probably later in this post. 3. Caramel Arrow Cookie
I will admit i am battling some serious demons trying to decide if i want her to be a force user or just really cool and Not a force user. that bit is undecided but she serves a similar role as like, padme’s bodyguards did. i’ll probably base her design off of those outfits actually. Her weapon of choice is Not a lightsaber she uses those massive crossbows that you typically see wookies with except she’s just like insane and that’s her weapon of choice i guess. it’s absolutely effective she has decimated things using that singular crossbow. She’s surprisingly mobile with it too given the size of the thing she’s doing flips and shit all over the place and all most can do is sit and observe.  4. Affogato Cookie Grabs him by the scruff of his neck This guy. he’s a force user that doesn’t use a lightsaber. ‘morally unaligned’ in an evil mansplain manipulate malefail way. He mostly uses the dark plague which i will also explain further in ‘how storyline translates thing’. He has a beskar staff which he got in a morally dubious manner and overall passes himself off as Not a force user so that he was able to get close to and manipulate the everloving fuck out of everyone in the cacao kingdom. Really excited to start working out designs for him Ahee hee
SECTION TWO: HOW DOES THE STORYLINE TRANSLATE?
Gonna be honest I will be copy pasting most of this from a discord rant where i have it laid out for the most part. so pretty much. i think dark choco essentially found the kyber crystal for his lightsaber as per usual and it . initially appeared to be a normal color yadda yadda yknow. dark cacao, whom i am making into like... a fusion of han solo + luke skywalker for purposes of the dark choco + kylo ren parallel (essentially it's like if luke were kylo's dad but also like a. struggling father). but anyways dark cacao is his tutordad essentially and he's like wow son nice crystal you found and dark choco is like wow thankyou dad ! and they continue with training and dark cacao doesn't mention that there's this weird aura shit around the crystal because he doesn't wanna worry his son with the potential of his first kyber crystal to be some fucked up ancient sith magic. the crystal itself is what i am imagining is like. an physical object manifestation of the dark plague. which is essentially star wars speak for fucked up force manipulation but not the mind tricks just like 'ooo oim sloowly turning you eeevil' thing. This leads into affogato’s role in this but i have more to explain. but so yeah over time it becomes more and more prominent that the crystal is like fucked up and dark cacao confronts dark choco about it and he’s like FUCK YOU DAD YOU JUST DONT ACTUALLY TRUST ME or something idk and the crystal is like yeah you get em tiger. Dark choco lashes out under the sword’s influence and then goes to live his life full of guilt.  Side note again the kylo ren association that choco canonically has absolutely forshadowed dark cacao getting pushed off a fucking cliff sorry not sorry. If nobody got me i know that the force awakens movie got me.  so yeah dc runs off to cod he isn’t associated with the story until the timeframe of ep 13/14 as per usual. Sometime between that period of time the affogato and caramel arrow conflict occurs. affogato cookie is a force user except he’s a weak ass bitch so he’s only really great with mobility stuff and manipulation magic shit. given this he is insanely effective with the dark plague. he entered the kingdom and immediately started gaslighting his way through life and got dark cacao under his thumb in a record amount of time. obviously as is expected caramel arrow is unhappy, gets gaslit, is kicked out. she becomes sort of a morally good bounty hunter and takes any job she deems morally acceptable while still trying to look out for the general public even though she’s not allowed/supposed to anymore. so excited to design her outfit aboohoo. that’s the most of the important storyline translation stuff mostly everything stays the same i’m just giving characters abilities that are very insane and that they should never be allowed to have. thats all have a good one team

Some wild or not-so-wild predictions about Episode IX (with some TLJ meta/analysis)
Tumblr media
So, for the record, these crazy-ass wild predictions (or maybe not so wild???) are based on: 1) evidence of themes, motifs, character development and story arcs from TFA and TLJ; 2) overall story arcs and whatnot from both the Prequel Trilogy and the OrigTrig; 3) other media (TV shows) within the Star Wars universe; 4) other media outside of Star Wars that I feel like share some thematic/character parallels and that I know are very popular among modern audiences; and 5) fan metas that tie into all of this.
So, in no particular order and with plenty of art to break up the text…
And in case this isn’t going to be obvious… SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI!!!
PREDICTION ONE: The Title
Across the 8 Star Wars films we have three possibilities for the way titles are worded: A/The (Adjective) (Noun) ; (Noun) with a verb somewhere in the phrase; (Noun) of the (Noun). So far in this new trilogy, we’ve had the first two. But we haven’t had (Noun) of the (Noun) yet. This has been the case with the third installments of each trilogy: Revenge of the Sith (III) and Return of the Jedi (IV).
I imagine IX will fit this pattern; and, while I doubt it will have “Jedi” or “Sith” in it, I wouldn’t be surprised if it had the word “Balance” in it. Like “Balance of the Force” or something, except that I imagine they might be kind of nervous about using “Force” again in a title so soon, considering they have The Force Awakens and another property The Forces of Destiny.
But, I’d bet money “Balance” is in the title. Maybe not a lot of money. Like $5 or something, but still. I’ll bet money on it. Maybe… “Power of the Balance.” Because Balance has very much been a recurring theme/motif in this trilogy, and I’m 100% certain we’re going there (which we’ll get into more below).
Tumblr media
PREDICTION TWO: Character Dynamics
Okay, so for a more general observation of the Core Three Characters of each of our trilogies – Anakin/Obi-Wan/Padme ; Luke/Han/Leia – we had a romantic pairing between two of the three characters (Anakin/Padme ; Han/Leia), and a sibling or pseudo-sibling bond two of three characters (Anakin/Obi-Wan ; Luke/Leia). And the remaining connection of the triangle (Padme/Obi-Wan ; Luke/Han) was more of a friendship than anything else.
Now, looking at our main three characters of this NEW trilogy, I’ve seen a lot of people arguing that it’s Rey/Finn/Poe. No, it’s really not. As much as I like Poe, he’s really more of the Lando or Yoda or Mace Windu of this series. He has an important role, but initially he’s more of a side character (especially considering that he doesn’t really get any character development until TLJ). This is evident in the marketing for TFA and the fact that Poe was supposed to die in the crash on Jakku.
No, Rey, Finn and Kylo are the main three of our story. With that, the bonds between them become more evident: Rey and Kylo are the romantic pairing as we clearly see in TLJ; and Rey and Finn are going to be more of the pseudo-sibling pairing (Sorry, FinnRey, shippers. I enjoy their dynamic but I see it being more platonic.) That will presumably leave Finn and Kylo to one day become friends, although it probably won’t happen in the events of Episode IX.
It’s evident that Rey and Finn deeply care about one another, and while there were hints to a possible romantic pairing between them – like the “cute boyfriend” comment and the “stop holding my hand,” awhich might’ve been done as either comic relief or shipping fodder – I don’t see them getting together unless Kylo dies (which I HIGHLY doubt, and we’ll get into more below).
Tumblr media
Finn is the first person who ever cared about Rey and treated her like a real person, like family. That’s partly why she’s so attached to him; that and he’s just generally a good guy. Likewise, Rey was the first person to believe in Finn, and it’s obvious that she means a lot to him. They’re the first real connection they made after they escaped their respective shitty lives (scavenging on Jakku and working for the FO). But Finn only ever calls her his friend, and he and Rey never exchange any dialogue in TLJ. He hasn’t really talked to her since Starkiller Base, before he fell into his coma; they’ve both seen and done a lot since then. They’re really not the same people that they were on Jakku, and while they will always care about each other, their lives are moving in different directions to a certain degree.
Anyway, sorry that was long way of saying: Rey and Finn aren’t getting together; Rey and Kylo are getting together. At least romantically. I imagine Rey and Finn will still be a big part of each other’s lives at the trilogy’s end.
PREDICTION THREE: Length of the Time Skip
I doubt it will be shorter than six months, but I don’t think it’ll be more than three years. We need enough time for the Resistance to have built up their forces again, but not so long that I think Hux will have overthrown Kylo Ren (because it was very obvious that he’s not at ALL pleased with Kylo as Supreme Leader).
A year or a year-and-a-half seems pretty reasonable. Any more than that, and I think you’re going to have to explain why the hell Hux hasn’t killed Kylo Ren or why either the Resistance or FO hasn’t found out about the Force Bond (because I definitely think that’ll be making an appearance).
PREDICTION FOUR: Basic Plot Outline
On that note, here’s how I think the movie might go. We’ll get into the specifics of some of these later.
Tumblr media
Since taking over as Supreme Leader, Kylo Ren has been mostly brooding. He doesn’t give a lot of orders, but mostly kind of lets Hux run things. He’s so incredibly conflicted, given everything that happened in TLJ. He is not at all stable emotionally or spiritually. He shuts himself in his chambers and doesn’t do much but wait for the Force Bond to connect him with Rey. They don’t really say anything to each other, even though both of them want to but can never find the words. Or something like that.
(EDIT: I could’ve sworn I put this next prediction in my original draft, but I guess not. Oh, well. Adding it back in now.) Leia’s death will be shortly before the events of this movie. In fact, it’ll probably be mentioned in the opening Title Crawl. News of her death or the feeling of his mother being gone (as he might sense it through the Force) will cause Kylo to break routine and leave his quarters to go on a solo trip to some location that reminds him of his mom. Alderaan is gone, so maybe wherever Leia and Han raised him?? As long as it wasn’t one of those planets that Starkiller blew up. Wherever. It’ll be somewhere that reminds him of his mom.
(EDIT:) Side note: I’m not sure what will cause Leia’s death. She might’ve died in battle. That’d at least be badass. But losing her husband and twin brother within a week of each other might’ve taken a strain on her physically and emotionally, much like what happened to Carrie Fisher’s mom, Debbie Reynolds, IRL. But, I think death in battle would be more fitting. Although, if that’s the case, Kylo won’t have ordered it.
As Kylo is visiting this site connected to his mom, Rey will either be on Jakku or Tattooine – delving into her own origins (visiting her parents’ graves in the junker desert) or into Luke’s/Anakin’s and trying to learn more about the Force. She will have constructed a new lightsaber: either one that’s totally unique to her (maybe like a staff size?), or one that uses half of the kyber crystal from the Skywalker Lightsaber (and Ben will use the other half for his saber at the very end, after he’s redeemed).
While they are both alone and on their personal journeys, the Bond will activate and they will finally say something to each other for the first time since TLJ. It won’t be much, and there will still be some anger/resentment/hostility between them, but it will be poignant and emotional. Rey will probably say something about how his mom never gave up on him, etc.
At some point while Kylo/Ben is visiting this location that reminds him of his mom, he will probably hear some audio of his mother speaking to him through the Force (they might use an earlier clip of Carrie/Leia saying “Ben” or something, they way they used the Alec Guiness/Old Ben dialogue in Rey’s Forceback).
Luke will appear as a Force-ghost to either Kylo or Rey or both at some point during the film, but this point (when they’re both on their respective journeys of nostalgia) seems the most likely. He’ll probably spout off some exposition-heavy dialogue (possibly giving Rey her third official lesson, if they decide the TLJ deleted scenes aren’t canon), and then tell Rey she’ll have to face Kylo again.
In the meantime, the Resistance has been cooking up some big plan to take down the FO’s most recent base/big gun/whatever. Poe is now in charge of the Resistance since Leia’s death. Finn and Rose are potentially a couple now, and they’re also major Resistance leaders.
Either the Resistance will win some major victory or the FO will start to fracture as Hux takes more power from Kylo. Something will have to kick Kylo back into full Renperor mode. Something will threaten his position of power and he will feel as though he has to retaliate. But, Hux won’t be killed off, either in battle or by Kylo, until the third act of the movie.
There will be a gigantic space battle in either the second or third act. Poe will probably be the one to kill Hux, if Kylo doesn’t.
Finn will likely find out about the Force Bond, if Rey hasn’t told him during the Time Skip.
If there’s an element where the Resistance has to send one of their own to infiltrate the FO base, Rey will do it. Finn will initially volunteer at first, but Rey says she has to face Kylo and give the Resistance its best chance to win.
Somehow Rey and Kylo will face each other in the final act of the film, likely after she’s sought him out on a FO base. Or they find each other on the battlefield.
Since the end of TLJ, Rey has gotten considerably stronger in the Force, especially her combat abilities. She and Kylo will be a literal even match. They know each other so well and are both so strong that almost every attack is ineffective. I really HOPE (not predict, but hope) that this fight will either have some kind of a dance feel to it or go back to Episode IV, when it was an homage to old samurai films. Like when they’re both trying to do one-shot kill moves on each other, but keep blocking it.
Okay… now as to how the fight will end… I truly believe that it will end in a draw with both of them being hurt to the point where they can’t fight any more, probably with inverse/opposite/complementary/mirroring injuries. The injuries will be major, but not life-threatening.
While they’re laying there, not fighting any more and experiencing a shared/parallel pain, they’ll both vocalize their feelings for one another. And probably kiss. And while they kiss, they have Force visions on how to resolve this conflict: to balance the Force by becoming Gray Jedi (Force-wielders who use both the light and the dark sides, in balance) TOGETHER.
Kylo will proposition to Rey to join him as a Gray Jedi, which she will accept.
Once they realize this, the two will go back to their respective sides, and figure out some kind of compromise/system where neither the Resistance nor the FO exists, but some kind of balanced government system where everyone feels represented and no one is oppressed.
Everyone celebrates the creation of this new system, the destruction of the old system(s), and Rey and Kylo leave their friends to become tandem Gray Jedi Masters who will teach the next generation of Force users all about the full scope of the Force. They’ll also totally become a couple and maybe we’ll see a Force-vision of the future, where they have kids or something.
Together, Ben and Rey will have brought balance to the Force and the galaxy at large!
Tumblr media
EXPLANATION TIME!!!
Kylo letting Hux run most things would be a good reason for Hux not having killed him yet. And Kylo brooding rather than being a bad dude makes a lot of sense if he’s going to be redeemed and live. And it’s clear from the effort that’s gone into Kylo Ren’s character that he WILL be redeemed, and because we’ve already done the Redeemed Hero Dies route (Vader), Kylo will get to live, albeit probably scarred/injured/handicapped or something. He can’t do TOO much more evil stuff or otherwise he’ll be considered TOO unredeemable for average audiences. Killing Han, killing a bunch of innocent people and Resistance combatants, and trying to kill Luke are all pretty unredeemable, but eh. He killed Snoke, and Rey, Luke and Leia all believe in his goodness. Seeing his conflict early on in Episode IX will clue the audience in on his being redeemed by the end of the movie.
I’m basing a lot of this on Zuko’s character arc from the Avatar: The Last Airbender series and Sasuke from the Naruto universe (which we’ll talk about more in a second).
Rey’s arc, much like Luke’s in Episode VI, will be somewhat overlapping with the main War plot, but will ultimately take place parallel to it. Luke was on a journey of discovering himself, the Force and helping Anakin Skywalker to redeem himself. Rey, likewise, is on a journey of discovering herself, the Force and helping Ben Solo to redeem himself. Her main story will intersect with Finn/Poe/Rose/the Resistance’s, as Luke’s did with Han/Leia/Chewie/the Rebellion’s, but it will ultimately take place mostly separated from them.
With Carrie gone, they are going to have to have some kind of carry-over from the OrigTrig, and Luke as a Force-Ghost makes the most sense. He’ll do the Ben Kenobi role of getting the main characters to fight each other and figure out whatever the Force is trying to tell them. Because, as a Force-Ghost, Luke’s consciousness is one with the Force, or whatever; so he knows exactly what needs to happen for Balance to be achieved.
Tumblr media
There will have to be something plot-wise to make Kylo snap out of his vulnerable state and back into his Renperor self because we’re going to need tension that he might kill Rey in their final duel, or at least destroy the Resistance. That way their final battle will have higher stakes.
Rey’s Force powers have leaned more toward the Sensing/Emotive side. Her first “awakening” is the Force-back, but even before that, she’s first aware of being called by the Force (the Lightsaber). She then figures out how to turn Kylo’s Force-sensing interrogation technique back on him, and senses his greatest fear. She also figures out how to use the Jedi Mind Trick, which she will ABSOLUTELY use again in Episode IX, and it’s only later that we see her using more of the physical attributes of the Force (pulling stuff toward you, combat enhancement, etc.). Rey is more naturally drawn toward sensing things via the Force, like the Tree, the Island (in her dreams) and the Lightsaber, and when she senses the Force as whole and then the Dark Side (the cave) in TLJ. So, during the Time Skip, she will have trained in learning how to use the Force to enhance her combat abilities, because it always felt to me like those were earned from her harsh life on Jakku rather than something inherent she had because she was Force-sensitive. (I mean, she didn’t even realize she was Force-sensitive until the Lightsaber scene on Takodana; but she’d been fighting off assholes all her life.)
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Force Bond is exposed to either the FO, the Resistance or both. This might be why Hux tries to usurp Kylo; and I doubt the Resistance will take Rey’s connection to Kylo all too well, considering that he tortured Poe and almost killed Finn (EDIT: and they might blame him for Leia’s death). Rey might make up for this by excusing herself from the main action of the War and offering to take down Kylo alone.
Now, what’s all this about the Gray Jedi and bringing “balance to the Force”?
(EDIT: Linking to the Wookieepedia article on “Gray Jedi” here.)
Tumblr media
So, this is what all the eight movies have been leading up to – the prophecy that Anakin was supposed to fulfill. At the end of VI, the Sith (Vader and Palpitine) die and only one Jedi (Luke) survives to pass on what he has learned. This is not balance. At the time, we didn’t know about the whole prophecy thing and the OrigTrig was just about the good guys winning and the bad guys losing. But, over time, Star Wars has evolved to show us that this world – like ours – is a lot more GRAY. That’s what the Clone Wars series was about; that’s what Rebels (as far as I know) has been about; and that’s what the PT was sort of hinting at. That’s what THIS new trilogy has been hinting at, especially with the Finn/Rose subplot in TLJ. (EDIT: Which I wrote a whole meta analyzing and defending the importance of that subplot. Read it here.)
That’s not to say the FO hasn’t committed atrocities and the Resistance isn’t made up of people who have suffered and want better lives. But, as we saw with Finn, there’s a possibility that Stormtroopers are good people who don’t like what they’re being told to do. And, as was hinted at in TLJ, there are plenty of people who don’t like the Resistance. Because, in a war, no side is all good or all bad.
The whole Star Wars franchise kicked off as WWII In Space! But, since WWII, we’ve entered several conflicts where we (the U.S.) weren’t always in the right and the enemy wasn’t always in the wrong. There’s a TON of gray area in our conflicts now.
Anyway, this is all a very long way of saying that the OT’s understanding of the Light Side and the Dark Side isn’t well managed. As we saw with Luke at the end of VI, he let his anger, hatred and rage against Vader flow, but he didn’t become evil. He stopped himself, and realized that Vader was much more like him than he previously wanted to admit.
But, then in the PT, we see that the Jedi’s belief system is very lop-sided. They can NEVER let their emotions get the better of them. They have to be stoic, mindful, “celibate” (more or less), and detached from the world around them. They are encouraged to be compassionate, but not to love or become attached to people. This is a philosophy that isn’t going to fly well among modern audiences.
(EDIT: There’s a really great video Pop Culture Detective did on this very topic today. Linking to it here.)
Tumblr media
Like with the War side, the answer is that we (the audience) are something in between. We do sometimes let our emotions get the better of us, which CAN be a bad thing sometimes, but not always (as “Inside Out” taught us, it’s unhealthy to lock certain feelings away). But, at the same time, most people aren’t evil and hate people so much that they want to destroy them.
So, the answer for The Force side of Star Wars is a balance: a coexisting of the extremes and the meeting of the two halves (Kylo and Rey). In TLJ, Luke’s big thing is that the Light Side WILL exist without the Jedi; and that the Force is ALL ABOUT A BALANCE: life/death, light/dark, heat/cold, peace/violence, etc. The Jedi is a RELIGION that used the Force, but there are plenty of other Force-users in this universe who aren’t Jedi or Sith (like Ahsoka Tano or Chirrut from Rogue One). The Gray Jedi can be the religious practice (the way of life) of Kylo and Rey. They can use both sides of the Force without being overcome by one or the other, by keeping them in a balance. I don’t know exactly how this would work, as I haven’t read TOO extensively into this topic, but I know it’s possible as I believe there were some Gray Jedi in the Legends Universe. I suppose it might be a bit like the Guardians of the Galaxy (another popular Disney property) – Kylo and Rey wouldn’t be all bad (because then they’d be evil) or all good (because then they’d be boring), but a little bit of both or something in between.
The happy ending to this entire saga isn’t about the Light snuffing out the Dark, the good guys killing all the bad guys, because the whole idea is that the Force and the world needs to be brought into balance. As much as we want the heroes to win, we also want the ending to be reflective of our human nature – both how we succeed and how we fail. This Gray Jedi ending would be reflective of that and bring the whole saga to a nice end.
Tumblr media
I mean they wouldn’t have put a fucking YIN-YANG SYMBOL in the Meditation Pool on Ach-To if the idea behind the trilogy wasn’t about bringing the Force into balance. I wonder if it’s a good thing Rey took those ancient Jedi texts, because maybe they hint at if/how the Ancient Jedi (not the ones in the PT) were more in balance in the Force than our PT Jedi were.
We see this nicely encapsulated into Rey and Kylo as characters. Rey who embodies the Light, but has plenty of darker tendencies (like getting mad, charging at Snoke in a fit of rage and aggression); and Kylo who embodies the Dark, but has plenty of lighter tendencies (like telling Rey to detach herself from her past and let it go). They are a literal fucking YIN-YANG SYMBOL as people, side by side. But combined and intertwined… if you put a Yin-Yang symbol in wet paint on paper, and then mixed it together, what would you get?
A gray circle.
Gray Jedi is the answer, people. No question about it. At least in my mind.
Now, about the fight. Why do I think Rey and Kylo will have to wound one another and kiss?
Well, the draw/wound thing is something I stole from the Naruto universe.
Tumblr media
For those of you who are unfamiliar… the main character Naruto (on the left) is very much the “light side” of his universe. His rival Sasuke (on the right, and who has a redemption arc similar to what we’ve seen of Kylo’s so far) is very much the “dark side.” There’s a point where they get sun and moon symbols on their respective hands, and each holds half of the same power source, although they manifest it differently based on their respective abilities/personalities.
Now, the entire series is built-up to this final showdown between the two. Naruto is not trying to kill Sasuke, but needs to stop him, because Sasuke IS trying to kill Naruto and bring an end to things/people Naruto loves. And, it physically ends in a draw. The two lose their dominant arms: Naruto loses his right; Sasuke, his left. Their wounds are a literal mirror of each other (see below). And in that shared pain, they find an understanding, and Sasuke decides not to kill Naruto but to come back over to the “good” side (more or less), to stop being a murderous asshole, and to start atoning for his crimes. (So, in a way, Naruto wins the fight on an emotional level, as he brings Sasuke over to his side.)
Tumblr media
That’s very much where I see this Rey/Kylo thing going. There are so many parallels between these four characters and their respective arcs, it’s ridiculous.
With Kylo and Rey, each of them will be trying to kill the other so their respective side will win the War. A draw (with a major non-fatal injury) is the only way I see this fight ending in a way that will bring them into balance with each other and the Force at large.
Also, we’ve never had a movie lightsaber fight end in a draw before, to my recollection: Darth Maul killed Qui-Gon; Obi-Wan killed Darth Maul; Count Dooku injured/beat Obi-Wan and Anakin (I guess he ran away from Yoda, so you might count that); Count Dooku injured/beat Obi-Wan in the rematch and then Anakin killed Count Dooku; Obi-Wan injured/beat Anakin; the Emperor forced Yoda to run away; Obi-Wan allowed Vader to kill him; Vader beat/injured Luke; Luke beat/injured Vader in their rematch; Rey injured/beat Kylo; and there wasn’t really an actual lightsaber fight in TLJ.
It would fit the whole “balance” motif for neither to win or lose the fight, but instead the two come to an understanding and compromise.
Now. The Kiss.
Why do these two little fuckers have to kiss, IMO?
Well, do you all remember the Disney Channel TV Show “That’s So Raven”? The main character (Raven) is a psychic; and there’s an episode where she meets a male psychic. And, while they have 0 romantic interest in each other, there’s a point where they continue escalating their physical proximity/touching, because it allows them to better use their powers. There’s a point where they have to kiss in order to find Raven’s BFF and some other people.
And, as we saw with Rey and Kylo in TLJ, these two are oozing with sexual chemistry and Force power. I mean if they see each other’s futures whenever they touch hands, what the hell are they going to see when they kiss? (Or if they ever had sexy times… but this is a family-friendly movie, so that’s not going to happen on screen; the kiss is the closest we’re going to get).
Tumblr media
I mean, c’mon you guys… everything we saw in TLJ is building up to them kissing and the Force coming into balance as a result of their combined lives/knowledge/destinies or whatever.
Also, as others have pointed out, they’re not going to kill off Ben Solo. The Skywalker family is too much of a commodity, and there’s so much possibility in leaving him alive and with Rey. I mean think of all the spinoff movies and TV shows we could have of them and their kids??? (EDIT: Just like how the Legends Universe focused in part on the kids of Luke, Han and Leia.) Rey is too well-loved by the fans to kill her off, and Ben/Kylo has gotten too much character development to not get redeemed. His kids with Rey would sell toys and tickets and subscriptions like crazy.
So, why do I think Ben/Kylo will proposition Rey, instead of the other way around (which would seem more natural)?
Well, in TLJ, each saw the other turning over to their side in a vision of the future. Rey says that Kylo won’t bow before Snoke and will turn, and she’ll help him. Kylo says that when the time comes Rey will turn and join him.
Now, from a physical standpoint, these visions were true after the Praetorian Guard fight. Kylo physically turned against Snoke and killed him, but emotionally was still attached to the Dark Side. Rey did physically join Kylo by his side in fighting the Guards but was still emotionally attached to the Light Side, or really, the Resistance. Neither ACTUALLY came over to the other’s side. Kylo didn’t want to join Rey politically, and she didn’t want to join him spiritually.
But now, they’re going to find that compromise where they meet in the middle both politically and spiritually. Kylo was right in TLJ: the old THINGS (political organizations, religious ways) should die, but Rey was right in that the PEOPLE should be saved. The only way to achieve both goals is to end the War, the FO, the Resistance, the Sith and the Jedi… and create something new. A compromise that works for everyone and brings the much-needed balance to the Force and the galaxy.
Each of them WILL join the other. Rey’s vision will have to be right that Kylo will turn from the Dark Side, and Kylo’s vision of her turning from the Light and joining him will have to be true as well.
Tumblr media
So, like any proper proposal of marriage/political alliance/spiritual alignment, I think Ben should be the one to suggest it. That way, we the audience can see the fruition of his redemption arc, etc. (Also, we have to come full-circle on the Space!Mr.Darcy thing.)
Anyway, I’ve now rambled on about this for QUITE long enough. Just wanted to throw out some ideas and see what you guys think and if you have predictions of your own. (EDIT:) And, to quote Preston Jacobs, “I’m probably wrong about half of this.” There’s plenty of hints of where the franchise is going, but I’m sure there are some details I will have gotten wrong. Which is fine. This can be my headcanon for the next two years.
I guess there’s nothing else to say other than, “May the Force be with you, always.” Cheers, guys! And thanks for reading!

Obsession Confession #2: Or How the Dark & Light Mean Ben’s Not Bad
In the course of my obsession I have, of course, been doing some a lot of reading. Mostly awesome Meta by Reyloites. But in my quest to understand why Reylo won’t leave me alone, I’ve read a variety of other sources as well. Some of this reading got me thinking about the Dark Side and Light Side and why there’s the predominant thought that they equate, respectively to Evil/Good. And why they don’t actually equate to Evil/Good.
From my understanding, the big difference between Darkside users (e.g. Sith) and Light (e.g. Jedi) is that Darksiders believe in letting their passions rule them, while Lightsiders believe in a more . . . intellectual approach.  (This is roughly summing up for the sake of brevity, of course.)
So, the Dark isn’t inherently bad or evil and neither is the Light the epitome of goodness. Rather, the Darkside is passion and intensity; the Lightside is intellectualism and emotional control.
I'm not saying that either is better or that there aren't issues with them both. The Jedi were a pretty arrogant, bossy bunch and both Ben Kenobi and Luke have admitted to hubris, which has ended up with terrible consequences. *ahem*
Tumblr media
By the same token, when Darkside users allow too much negative emotion, they lose their shit, with terrible consequences.
Others have pointed this out in passing, though I’m not sure if there’s Meta written about it, so my apologies if this has been covered . . .
But I love the fact that in all of the Force Bond moments (apart from the last two) between Rey and Kylo/Ben, it’s Rey who is emotionally charged and aggressive, while Kylo/Ben is calm and curious. She’s spitting venom and trying to shoot him. He’s chasing after her and really curious about what’s going on.
Rian Johnson could have framed the Force Bond sessions in any other light. But he chose a very specific way to portray our Force users. For example, Kylo/Ben could have used the sessions to extract the whereabouts of Ahch-To from Rey. And in the very first scene he goes to command Rey to bring Luke to him, but almost instantly very, very distinctly backs off – note the exaggerated way he pulls his arm back? (And that little mouth movement that means he’s struggling with emotion and not logic?).
Tumblr media
It’s a very clear indicator that his action is more from habit than instinct. It takes a moment for his instincts to kick in, and when they do – he’s curious, he’s giving her physical space, but more importantly he’s seeing just her.
Tumblr media
Okay, okay, so he flips out later, but that’s only after Rey ‘betrays’ him in the throne room after he proposes marriage ruling together. We know enough about Kylo/Ben by this stage to understand that her reaching for the legacy saber under the guise of taking his hand was going to wound him deeply. And what is his instinctive reaction? That of any injured beast – to attack.
Tumblr media
Btw I absolutely do not believe he knew Rey was on the Falcon on Crait. Why else would Hux, when asked ‘What happened?’ say very specifically that Rey took Snoke’s ship. Surely his first words would be that some amazing crazy Resistance pilot has torn through the Finalizer and half the First Order fleet?
I also think suspect Kylo doesn’t actually realise Leia is still alive. In Jason Fry’s novelization he believes his mother is dead after the Raddus’ deck is blown out and it’s never specifically raised after this that he becomes aware she is alive. He’s focused on destroying the Resistance – his parent’s/uncle’s legacy, not specifically his mother or Rey. (Yes I know he says he’ll destroy her to Luke, but that’s just trash talk, yo. Because he sure as hokey hey doesn’t follow through on it.) Yeah, so badass and bent on retribution. Not.
The final scene between Rey and Kylo/Ben is important because it establishes or re-establishes quite a lot of things:
a) The Force Bond obviously existed separate to Snoke (and was formed during the interrogation scene on Starkiller Base). Snoke simply took advantage of what he knew (probably from Kylo/Ben’s thoughts). We know he hasn’t got that level of control over Kylo/Ben because while he did ‘stoke Kylo/Ben’s conflicted soul’ he also made the fatally wrong call about our boi’s intentions regarding Rey.
b) Kylo/Ben is aware he has effed up. Do I need to pull out that puppy dog gaze? Oh heck, might as well . . .
Tumblr media
c) He is kneeling at Rey’s feet, cradling his father’s dice in one hand and caressing the links in the other*. He’s not crushing them in his fist and screaming imprecations at Rey and the Resistance.
Tumblr media
Rey is coded as set to become a ‘grey Force user’ in my opinion. Not only do her clothes go from tan, beige, off-white to grey, but her conduct is a distinct mix of calm rationality and passion – totes grey people. I’m not going to cite references, you’re all smart enough to be able to find numerous instances of both kinds of behaviour in Rey.
I think Ben is also coded to become a ‘grey Force user’. He’s just approaching it from the other end, if you will. His clothing has become shorter, less Sith-like and he did ditch a lot of it in one particular scene. *wink*
While I’m not certain we’ll see Kylo/Ben get rid of the black altogether (and do we want that I ask – sooo hot), I think we will see it become a lighter shade of dark.
I’d also be interested to see what happens to his saber. Will he keep it? If Rey forges her own homemade saber with the broken Kyber crystal from the legacy saber, then it will most likely resemble Kylo/Ben’s in needing cross-vents. This would be a nice parallel. What I’d love to see is Rey forging two sabers from the broken legacy saber . . . But I think it’s most likely she’ll end up with a saber-staff.
At any rate, I think we’re all aware that the Cosmic Force is determined to find balance and Rey and Ben are the fulcrum upon which the future of the Force and the galaxy rests. So, no, Ben is not going to the bad, but he’s not going to be perfect either. Just a hot mess of neediness and strength and passion and . . . *blows into paper bag and waves vaguely *
Tumblr media
The End.
*I’m writing another, shorter Meta on why Kylo/Ben’s dice action is important, with a few other thoughts that aren’t big enough for a large piece.
Also here is the link to the first picture which is my own reworking of the original. http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1075743-star-wars

So like, since that kyber crystal is just out now. Rey is gon have to make a whole new light saber and she is probably going to have a lil mission to do that. She gon make herself a double sided shit so that she can use it like her staff. But also, Finn is going to go with her and get his own kyber crystal and make his own lightsaber since he, too, has the force.

Star Wars 9 Trailer Breakdown: 8 Story Reveals About Rise Of Skywalker
Tumblr media
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's new trailer reveals a lot of surprising details about the plot, as well as containing a few Easter eggs. Released at D23 Expo 2019, the footage is described as a "sizzle reel" but may as well be the film's second trailer.
The first teaser for Star Wars 9 dropped in April at Star Wars Celebration, showing all the returning characters, a few new ones, and confirming the return of Emperor Palpatine. It had been expected that the D23 footage would be a behind-the-scenes reel as it was for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but instead it contained what appears to be finished footage. Of course, irector J.J. Abrams is well-known for his Mystery Box approach to marketing, with trailers always tending to raise a lot more questions than answers - and that certainly the case with the Star Wars 9 D23 trailer.
Related: Every Star Wars 9 Reveal From the D23 Panel
The new footage is full of moments that have no context at all. Why does Threepio have red eyes? Why are Rey and Kylo Ren dueling on the wreckage of the Death Star on Endor? What's going on with that dark side Rey? Even the audio cues are mysterious. We'll answer all these questions (as best we can) and more in our Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker D23 trailer breakdown.
Tumblr media
Lucasfilm is recycling old, unused footage in order to bring the late Carrie Fisher back as Leia Organa in Star Wars 9, and The Rise of Skywalker's D23 trailer includes one impressive shot of her stood on a jungle planet, likely saying goodbye to Rey (the pair were seen hugging in the same location in the teaser).
This image is a familiar one, originally seen as part of Vanity Fair's Star Wars 9 cover story back in May, and appears to have been taken from a scene towards the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm has added some digital touchups to make Leia look a little older, such as graying her hair along the sides and weathering her skin.
Tumblr media
One of the most shocking moments in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker D23 trailer for shows C-3P0 with red eyes. No context is provided for this shot, and it's hard to say exactly what's going on here; it certainly gives Threepio a rather sinister feel.
Related: Will Star Wars 9's Plot Mirror Guardians Of The Galaxy 2?
In the old Expanded Universe, a droid with red eyes had typically been hacked into, but it's unclear whether that idea still applies in new Star Wars canon. It could perhaps mean something a little more benign, such as Threepio having been given enhanced processing power for some reason. A potential poster showed Threepio with Chewie's bowcaster, so it's possible this is the lead up to an action sequence.
Tumblr media
The Star Wars 9 D23 trailer shows a Death Star-type blast shooting an unknown planet. The novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi subtly hinted that the First Order had built more superweapons before revealing their existence to the galaxy, with Starkiller Base simply their biggest and most destructive. It's interesting to note that, while the trailer reveals a superweapon equivalent to the Death Star, it doesn't show the mobile battle station itself. There have been rumors that the First Order has installed Death Star superlasers into a new type of Star Destroyer (as they did the battering ram in The Last Jedi), and it could be that's what's shown here
Tumblr media
As revealed in the Star Wars 9 teaser, the film will feature the wreckage of the second Death Star, likely fallen onto either the Forest Moon of Endor (possibly leading to a distinctly less green look). The Rise of Skywalker D23 trailer goes a step further and shows Rey and Kylo Ren fighting on a massive piece of the exterior as waves crash around them. Given the high intensity, this probably comes later in the film, making it a hint of not only the final fight in Star Wars 9, but the last lightsaber duel in the main Star Wars Saga. It also suggests that, whatever happens to the two characters, they will still be on opposing sides come the end.
Tumblr media
Although Palpatine is confirmed to appear in Star Wars 9, the trailers have avoided giving a glimpse of the Emperor. So far, Palpatine has only appeared on a Star Wars 9 poster released at D23, which repuposed a Hot Toys model rather than using anything from the film. That's led to increasing speculation that something has changed about the Emperor's appearance, something that Lucasfilm is keen to avoid revealing at this stage.
Related: Why Does Star Wars 9’s Emperor Palpatine Look Like A Cartoon?
Still, Ian McDiarmid's voice has now been heard, making the Emperor sound as sinister as ever. "Your journey nears its end," he declares ominously, although it's unclear to whom or quite what he's inferring.
Tumblr media
The Star Wars 9 D23 trailer builds towards its close with another surprise: Palpatine's voice is followed by Darth Vader's very distinctive heavy breathing. The shadow of Darth Vader has loomed over the sequel trilogy; Kylo Ren is obsessed with his grandfather to the point that, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he considered himself to be continuing Darth Vader's mission.
This audio cue sets up viewers to believe that Darth Vader has some sort of direct presence in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, although at this stage it's difficult to say what his role would be; and it could simply be a marketing trick.. Exclusive D23 footage showed that Vader's damaged mask makes a return, so at the very least his legend lives on.
Tumblr media
The conclusion to the D23 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer takes a disturbing turn with a shot of what is clearly meant to be an evil Rey. There's long been speculation that Rey could be vulnerable to the lure of the dark side; she appeared to have committed herself to the light at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but that kind of decision is one that a Jedi must mkae every day of their lives. As even Luke Skywalker himself learned to his cost, once you have taken a single footstep down that dark road, you will always be vulnerable.
Related: Star Wars 9 Theory: Why Rey Turns To The Dark Side
The interesting question is whether this is real or not. It wouldn't be out of the question for this to be a Force vision, encouraging Rey to avoid this or else seeing her confront her greatest fear.
Tumblr media
Rey is shown wielding a remarkable double-bladed lightsaber that starts as two parallel blades and flips to create a staff. At first glance, it appears to be similar to Darth Maul's in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but the handle is longer and the rotating aspect makes it more similar to lightsabers used by ancient Jedi Temple Guards in Star Wars Rebels.
The red hue is, of course, a universal symbol of the dark side; where Jedi bond with the Kyber inside their lightsabers, Sith dominate it with their own will, and it "bleeds" the crystal to a crimson color. What's most striking here is that the blades crackle similar to Kylo Ren's broken lightsaber, rather than the clean glow of traditional versions. This suggests the weapon is a new creation.

11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been? and 9 but instead of discussing his socioeconomic status while growing up, talk about the difference between how his upbringing with the jedi is different from his potential upbringing with his birthfather
Character Development Questions: Hard Mode
11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?
See, here’s the thing that’s really giving me trouble with answering this question: Braig is letting me know that he’s been afraid a few times, but it’s different kinds of fear. He’s been faced with the fear of his own death a number of times, though the biggest times he’s been faced with this so far have been in the battle he fights alongside Finch, and probably Order 66, though how much mortal danger he himself was directly in depends on the verse (though it’s never exactly a good position for him to be in). He’s had to face the fear of failure/not being good enough, which was at its strongest when it was getting close to his thirteenth birthday, and he still hadn’t found a master. He also had to face the fear of abandonment and being alone, which was strongest during the period of time when Obi-Wan was ‘dead’, in the Deception arc.
He was confronted with a fear he didn’t even know he had when the Geonosian parasites happened - the fear of having his autonomy taken away. Not being in control of his movements or speech was absolutely terrifying for him– And, I have to say, I think this is why he hasn’t actually used the Jedi Mind trick over the course of this blog (That, and the fact that he has so far been able to charm his way out of any situation aside from those involving Fox)? I mean, I’m quite sure he’s been trained in its use, and he’s done it before, but it almost never crosses his mind as a solution to problems - and it’s always a last resort for him (just above killing). He knows what it’s like to have your agency ripped away, and he wouldn’t wish it upon his worst enemy.
So, yes, he’s faced utter terror a few times. He always comes away thinking it’s his fault.

So I feel like the best way to really get the point across between how absolutely horrible his life under Eadric would be, is by comparing hypothetical scenarios to actual threads, headcanons, and interactions Rodi and I have done with Braig and Obi-Dad. It’s like night and day, really.
When Braig was a baby, Obi-Wan went out of his way to visit him. After long missions, Obi would make a beeline to go snuggle the bab as a way of therapy/cool-down, and has rushed through chores to get more smol time. Eadric, on the other hand, was barely around, even when Braig did live with him. He had a brand-new little son at home, and he spent most of his time either at work or shut away in his office at home. Braig didn’t even really have many memories of his father to lose when he came to the Jedi.
Adding on to that, Dadawan Obi would take Braig out of the nursery to go on little field trips relevant to kiddo’s interests, and go as far as to hide from nursery workers so as to not have to take Braig back before their field trip was properly completed. By the time Braig was still learning to walk and talk, and just getting the hang of toddling around, Obi knew Braig liked stars, and flowers, and being read to, and that one of the best ways to get him to sit still would be to read him a brand-new book he’d yet to see, and he knew what Braig was like with staff he didn’t like and the best way to get a grumpy bab to settle. He’d take Braig to the Temple gardens, to the archives to look at/play with holographic star charts, and has on at least one occasion sneaked the little one onto a starship so they could go stargazing without having to deal with the massive amounts of light pollution Coruscant puts out on the daily. When Braig was getting his first kyber crystals from Ilum, Obi made sure to comfort him before sending kiddo off to the caves and to wrap Braig in extra scarves and giving him a mug of tea to help him warm up. When Braig first made his sabers, Obi made time to give the kiddo a sparring match, though of course taking it easy. By the time Braig’s a teenager, Obi also knows that having his hair brushed/braided helps calm Braig down after  rough days/nights, and that when he gets anxious on missions or even just when they’re walking together it’s grounding for Braig to hold on to Obi’s sleeve, and there have even been times Obi will just hold his arm out to Braig cause he knows things are going south and Jedi or not this is a small child in very much not ideal conditions, so someone should probably make sure he’s at least a little bit okay for a change; He knows Braig likes riddles, and so will write them down in Braig’s journal for the kiddo to find and mull over on his off time; He knows Braig still likes flowers, and has taken the time on missions to let Braig look at, make notes on, and even find locals to ask if he can pick some flowers that they come across, though this is, of course, typically after missions where they haven’t been roughed up too badly and don’t need to rush back to Coruscant; He knows that Braig likes tea, and so will take him on trips to the tea shop to pick out a new flavour for them to try together…
The long and short of all of this is that Obi makes time to spend with Braig, and as a result knows what his interests are, and makes an effort to validate those interests. Those are two things that Eadric absolutely will not do. He comes home from work tired, irritated, and in a generally foul mood, and he does not have time to entertain every single flight of fancy his son happens to vomit in his direction. He’s actually said, to little, say, eight-year-old Braig that ‘[he’s] busy, and [has] far more important things to worry about than that– The Republic relies on [him], Braig. Open your eyes and stop being so selfish.’ And little Braig apologises with a mumbled ‘yes, sir, sorry, sir,’ and left; He’d wanted to show his father the flowers that had grown in some of the parks he saw on his way to school, but he can see why Eadric’s work would be more important than that (One of the nicer family droids asked, later, if Braig would like to go to the park with them, but he said no, and spent the rest of they day in his room. By the next day, the temperature had dropped, and the flowers were wilting, and he wondered if that, too, had something to do with his being selfish). Eadric and Braig hardly know each other, and when Braig gets older, they’ll go days, if not weeks, without speaking a single word to each other. Eadric doesn’t even know how Braig takes his caf in the morning (Doesn’t even know that Braig hates the taste of caf, but needs something to get him through the day). Braig, under Eadric, grows up learning to keep his eyes down and mouth shut, with literally no self-esteem and seeing Eadric as a terrifying stranger who just so happens to have complete control over Braig’s life.
Once, when Obi was brushing Braig’s hair to help him cool down from either a nightmare or a mission, I can’t remember which, he told Braig that he liked the length of his hair, and that it framed his face well and made him look ‘elegant and refined’. Braig’s hair is his favourite part of his appearance, hence why he grows it out, so he was quite pleased that Obi-dad thought it looked good, too. When Braig grows it out even longer (to the ridiculous length it is when he’s a grownup), in a verse where O66 never happened, Space Dad says that it not only suits Braig, but also reminds him of Qui-Gon, and goes on to say that he thinks Qui would be proud of Braig, too. And as you can imagine, kiddo (who was a grown man) was walking on air. He was thrilled.
When Braig, living under Eadric, started growing his hair out, he was told it made him look unkempt and ridiculous, and was made to sit while a droid shaved his head into a very close-cropped crew cut, so that he might ‘manage to be somewhat presentable’. Braig was absolutely miserable, he hated how it looked, it was awful and itchy and just another thing he’d managed to screw up. He wouldn’t grow it out again until he started rebelling for attention, and that just led to shouting matches and arguments and more forced-shavings (to the point where one droid would have to hold him down while another cut his hair - he got shaved nearly bald for that one).
I actually posed this question to Rodi just for this ask, but I asked her, “If baby Braig told Obi-Wan all he wanted to do when he grew up was plant flowers, what would Obi say?” And she told me he’d ask what kind of flowers they’d be, and Braig said ‘I don’t know, pretty ones,’ and Obi replied that he was sure they’d be the prettiest flowers in the galaxy.
When Braig said the same to Eadric, his father had said ‘Don’t be ridiculous, you’re going to be a soldier. Just like I am, just like my father was, and so on. We don’t need people to plant ‘flowers’, Braig - we have droids for that.’ And Braig had apologised as best he could, and thrown out the little cup of dirt he’d tried to plant a dandelion in.
Braig has absolutely zero problems coming to Obi-Wan with his problems, thoughts, or interests, because Obi-Dad has always made him feel safe and welcome to do so; Even as a teenager, he felt no shame in curling up next to Obi when nightmares get bad. He just feels safe with Dad.
With Eadric, when nights get bad, Braig sleeps on a park bench. He doesn’t feel safe in his own house; He sneaks out at night and figures the Senate district is safe enough. If any of the Guard do tell him to move along, he might mumble out an apology, but he’ll go ‘loiter’ at a different park. He usually takes his time getting home, too, since he knows he’ll be in trouble when he gets home. He starts sleeping outside when he’s about thirteen/fourteen, starts getting kicked out of the house for ‘poor behaviour’ (the only way he can get any sort of sentient interaction, some days) when he’s late fourteen/fifteen. He has a pretty regular cycle of where he goes, but he always winds up going back home because he has nowhere else, nobody else, and no idea how to take care of himself. There are times he looks forward to sleeping in the park, just because sometimes one of the nicer clones will be on patrol and he can say hi to them without getting yelled at, and it’s pretty much the highlight of his week(s). If they tried to bring him back before he was ready, he’d bolt. Best he could, at least. He’s not in as good shape in any sense as he is in the canon verses, so they could probably catch him.
(Speaking of lacking training, he’d be almost constantly overstimmed by the Force, since he would have no idea how to control it/throw up shields, and he’s probably gotten in trouble for accidental Force-mishaps before and just be very confused).
if the guards found him after he bolted, and had to take him back by, say, airspeeder, when he’s older? He’d throw himself out. He’d rather become fast friends with the distant ground than be dragged back to Eadric.
His ‘sweet sixteen’ with the Jedi/Obi-Wan involves waking up early to watch the sunrise with Space Dad, getting treated to some fancy tea, and then going about his day, perhaps getting well-wishes and even the odd gift from his friends/chosen family.
His sixteenth birthday with Eadric involves a closed coffin.

egregiousderp mentioned you in a post
lightbows : egregiousderp: baze-also-yes:
OHMYGOD this is so much. In a good way. yes.
First off no no no you weren’t giving me teacher voice or anything I just clarify out of habit I think. Fandom can be a grumpy place about perceived borrowing of ideas _D_ Usually for good reason.
The weapons stuff I have not thought about much but I really like the idea of Chirrut’s staff having Baze’s stone. Honestly since they’re not Jedi I hadn’t really been applying the “chosen stone” stuff to them so much, but that’s a possibility. Perhaps Chirrut lost his when the temple fell, and since Chirrut lost his sight at the same time (uh, maybe) Baze gave him his staff. And Chirrut quickly finds that anything that belongs to Baze is his too and that extends to the kyber crystal. As for the lightbow, I think that’s a rite-of-passage thing. When Baze loses his faith he gets rid of his, uses pieces to soup up his blaster or maybe to modify Chirrut’s to be easier to use without his sight. I dunno. Maybe I have thought about weapons stuff! I just haven’t really written anything about it although I do have a couple things in progress where it might be useful.
I didn’t mean hot stone massage as a euphemism! This is cracking me up. I mean it’ll get sexy. A quick look at 90% of what I have written for this fandom will disqualify me from pure blossom status I assure you, but in this case I at least meant starting with an actual massage using the stones (this type of thing). I’ve since learned that “crystal massage” in the new agey sense seems mostly to involve waving a crystal wand (which is awfully phallic for what it’s worth) over/around someone without actual contact. So the one I’m working on is somewhere down the middle. Chirrut giving Baze a massage using kyber stones, which he has somehow imprinted or something to that effect -- I haven’t worked out the details but a mix of a physical and spiritual treatment. And all very guardian-approved rather than sacrilegious! I rather like the idea of the followers of the Whills as a foil to the Jedi, encouraging emotional bonds and probably being quite sex positive also. Perhaps Chirrut does this seeking to open up Baze’s senses to the Force more, something like that.
...I’m really glad you asked this, I think I’m actually figuring out wtf I planned to write by explaining it like this 8D
BUT ANYWAY this is. Really long. I don’t know what happened, sorry _D_

Got a third Rogue One viewing in
Because the final brother had to see it and I had my readmission ticket carefully hoarded from last year.
He complained.
You all can profit though because I took still more notes during the movie:
• I noticed this time that there are actually four people in the movie who wear red accents on their clothing: Chirrut, Baze, Lyra, and Baby Jyn has a red lining in her jacket. When Kaytoo knocks her to the ground as an adult, you can see she still has a red lining in her jacket. Assuming red lining as a force metaphor, that means there are four* force-sensitive people in the movie, and all four of them wear a bit of red somewhere. (*Apparently Lyra being force sensitive is a Catalyst detail so I can’t confirm this, but it would help explain why she’s a Kyber expert.)
• the child Jyn saves in the Jedha City marketplace also wears a splash of red and so does her mother (? What?)
• Cassian’s source at the start apparently met Bodhi and Bodhi’s the one who called the Death Star a “Planet Killer”?
• Bodhi’s reward is 600 credits.
• Saw’s entire role in the movie is set up to parallel Darth Vader’s role in the trilogy, hence the interrogation scene, the reunion with a child-figure who changes him, and his decision to embrace his destiny. Saw’s whole arc is a micro-Vader arc, which is great because Saw himself was trained by Anakin.
• Saw’s Rebels roll their grenades under tanks–a technique They used originally against Droidekas.
• while I originally thought Chirrut said they were no friends of Saw Gererra’s, on a later viewing, he’s actually saying they’re no friends of the Empire. (Oops. My bad. I also though Chirrut and Baze ran hanging on to one another and I can see now it’s just the way Chirrut his to hold his staff and the angle of the camera. Sorry, guys.)
• Chirrut definitely followed them because of Jyn’s Crystal. In fact…those two get drawn together a lot. (I feel a lot less weird about having them be BFFs in the modern AU now and also genuinely think that’s a master and apprentice type bond if anyone cares to write that in on an “everyone lives” AU.)
• Saw, like Galen, also says not a day goes by that he doesn’t think of Jyn. But the only reason he shows her father’s message to her is because she says she doesn’t want to fight. He DOES however, as her what she wants before asking more specifically if she cares about the cause.
• which brings me to another point: Galen sent Saw the message because he assumed Jyn would still be with him.
• when Bodhi is called back to his identity, he’s called back by Cassian asking “Galen Erso. You know that name?” Before asking him if he’s he Pilot.
• When Jyn collapses, I’d assumed it was from her father’s message but actually, it takes place while Jedha City is being destroyed and so could be a force backlash of the deaths.
• Jyn looks back for Saw as his compound is collapsing.
• actually Chirrut looks pretty undecided about what he wants to do when Jyn up and leaves to do her thing and track down her dad. That’s before he decides to follow her and before all the stuff about how he believes her.
• after the whole “I don’t need luck” thing where Baze ends up following his bro who’s following some girl, Baze complains “We’ve come too far.” Chirrut replies with “Patience, my friend.” And bro. If the force set up my good dads to singlehandedly lay waste to an army, I gotta get on that. Because the force also gave Chirrut a shot that used a tie fighter to take out a turret, followed by Baze gunning down an entire squad. All because of a pretty girl with a necklace. If Baze and Chirrut hadn’t followed Jyn, she and Cassian would have probably died.
• Cassian’s entire reaction to hearing the squadron’s on it’s way is “NO! JYN’S DOWN THERE!” (Which also means that if she’d stayed out where he’d asked her to be, things would have been fine by his definition of fine.)
• Krennic makes a point of telling Galen he killed Saw on Jedha and laid waste to the whole city, and Galen’s expression makes clear he thinks his daughter’s dead. (Seriously, it took me three viewings to pick up on that.)
• Galen. dies knowing his daughter’s alive, and overjoyed because she’s going to fulfill his work and he has so many things to tell her. (aw.)
• When they lift off after her father’s dead, the first person Jyn goes to is Chirrut. (Just. That silent moment right there was so much. Man. It was a good, strong, platonic hand clasp between two people who had just been through some shit and had been dead honest about it with one another. man.)
• Similarly, the first person to look for hope and ask “what kind of a weakness?” About the Death Star is Baze. The fucking atheist. Who hates the Empire so much he’s ready to strangle a kid in the wrong uniform through the bars of a jail cell. Baze Malbus in a nutshell right there: he’s tired, he’s lost his home, he just got done following his best friend/whatever into the pouring rain, and the moment someone says they might have a way to make it all slightly less bleak after he says it’s pretty bleak, he warily asks how. Baze Malbus, my internet people: the man with the gun who wants to believe but doesn’t want to be called on it.
• When Cassian points out he didn’t have to make the calls he did and he didn’t take that shot he could have, he turns to Bodhi and asks, “Did I?” And Bodhi flinches hard.
• While Cassian calls Jyn hardest on her white feminist shit, he’s also the person who makes the most effort to support her and make her feel at home within the alliance. Seriously. This guy. Like…he didn’t resonate with me at all at first because he’s supposed to be this off-putting assassin type with a soft voice, but he…like, he has a genuine heart to him at times and he doesn’t have to. And I don’t think Jyn really notices or appreciates that because she’s always been special and valued? A lot of what Cassian is is self-made, but those people who showed up because they weren’t proud of what they’d done showed up for Cassian. This guy was a Fulcrum Agent serving in recruitment, and I can kind of see why. He knows how people work, and I like that he was allowed to get the last word in just to say he didn’t have to talk his way out of justifying what he did because he did it.
• As the movie goes on Bodhi’s imperial shoulder insignia gets dirtier and dirtier, by the point of his death, it’s almost black.
I’m sure there’s more but that’s what I got this time.

A Heart of Kyber
Similar to many nights in her life, Jyn Erso couldn’t sleep. Flashbacks and paranoia from her past left her wide awake. But tonight, her mind just wandered. Something it’s never done before and she didn’t know how to feel about it. It bothered her to the point where she wanted to wander herself, and she slipped out of bed grabbing her coat and a blaster as her protection.
Outside it was cool, and the ground hit her quiet feet with a cold sting as she paced around the base. Scattered ships were left empty, abandoned for the night. Jyn got lost in the maze of them, somehow connecting to them. She has no mother and no father and nowhere to go if things went bad. She felt like a ship. It’s useless without a pilot. Without any specific purpose or job anymore, Jyn was missing.
Her fingers grazed over the white kyber crystal, the only thing she had to remember when she was young. Now she had realized she was never safe, even then. She was probably more hunted now than then, actually.
Is this what feeling safe feels like?
“trust the force” she said as she closed her hsnd around the gift from her mother. In fact, that was the last thing her mother had said to her. Yet still, at times like these, she doubted her direction. Jyn kissed her fist and spoke into it.
“I’m sorry Mother”
“She’s not the one you should be apologizing too.”
The rebel jumped and readily hovered her hand over her blaster. She turned only to find that it was Chirrut, approaching her with his staff in hand.
“You’re the one you need to apologize too.”
Jyn ignored that comment and relaxed. “You startled me.”
Chirrut gave her a smile of apology before gently placing a hand on her back, guiding her to a different part of base. “Why are you awake, sister?”
Jyn dodged him, defensive. “Why are you awake?” The man just laughed.
“Because of you sister!” He foud the spot he must have been searching for and sat on a bench. “You may be sneaky, but the force is always loud.”
Jyn studied Chirrut for a moment, he was so happy. His face was a sign of comfort and knowledge but it also held mystery. She wanted to find out. “How do you hear it?” She questioned,
Chirrut patted the empty space next to him, inviting Jyn to sit. Tentatively, she did.
“Do you remember what I told you when we first met? That the strongest souls ha-”
“Have hearts of Kyber- I remember but what does that have to do with me?”
Chirrut couldn’t quite catch her eye, but it was close enough.
“If you follow what your heart says, then you live in the force.”
Jyns hand mindlessly went over her chest, feeling the bump of the crystal in her palm.
          “And if I can’t?”
Chirrut chuckled.
       “Listen harder”
AWWW LOVE THEM i see platonic love but eh up to you
