Thank you, @ihni , for the baton! Without further ado, here's my contribution to the Harringrove Relay Race!

It's a little fic (that I'll post on ao3 later, when I'm awake and cosplaying as a functioning human) and that is very cleverly (not really) titled...

A Pirate's Life For Me

Billy's always known he wasn't lucky in life and this, right here, is the culmination of it all.

Not even two months at sea, working his ass off for a meager pay in the hopes of earning enough to exstinguish the debts his father and Chrissy's father put on their shoulders before dying, and his ship gets captured by pirates.

Worse: captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who has a reputation as a great swordman and a ruthless bastard who doesn't leave survivors.

Billy did his best in the fight, but he's just a farm boy turned deck swabber, his swordmanship goes very little further than "the handle goes into your hand, the pointy part goes inside the enemy". So now he's kneeling, hands raised, on the deck of the Panthaira, along with the rest of the surviving crew and passengers.

Well, with all the survivors except Captain Loman, who's huddled against the main mast. The Dread Pirate Roberts is crouched in front of the captain and talking to him in a low voice while the captain clearly draws his last breaths, shirt painted a vivid red with the blood gushing from the puncture wounds in his chest. Loman was a petty tyrant, so Billy is not exactly bawling his eyes out at the prospect of the captain being gone soon. It's just the principle of the thing that counts. The Panthaira has been captured, and, to put it mildly, Billy is fucked.

There are too many pirates keeping them under threat of more stabbing, and also no damn place to go even if he were able to escape the ship. They're in the middle of the ocean, nothing but water in every direction for hundred if not thousands of miles.

So Billy stays where he is.

And looks either at the back of the Dread Pirate Roberts or at the slow rising and falling of Loman's chest.

He waits and hates how his arms are getting heavier and heavier by the second. Soon, he'll be dead and, back home, Chrissy will have to mourn her best friend too, not just her parents.

Captain Loman's chest at last goes still and Roberts extends a careful, gloved hand to close the man's unseeing eyes, before turning towards his prisoners in one swift, elegant movement.

Robert's dressed all in black and wearing a mask, just like the stories say. He has long brown hair tied in a low pony tail, and dark eyes that sweep the crew and passengers of the Panthaira like he can weigh the wort of each of them with just one look.

Billy lets his hands fall down, tired of this charade. If he's gonna die anyway, what good comes from obeying? Might as well die with some feeling left in his arms.

Someone shouts at Billy to raise his hands again and he just ignores him. Roberts is walking their way, his steps slow and his attention pointedly fixed on cleaning blood off the blade of his sword.

Somewhere behind Billy, a woman starts weeping. One of the crew members pleads for his life. Another offers all the money he's got to be spared.

Bunch of cowards.

Roberts stops in front of Billy, ignores everyone else.

"You're not pleading," he says in such a voice and cold tone that the people around them fall silent, too scared of what's happening.

"I don't plead."

"Aren't you scared, boy?"

"To death."

Roberts grins. It makes the moles on his cheek dance.

"Should I bestow on you the sweet mercy of death, then, or not?"

Billy licks his lips and grins back.

"You should let me live, sir."

"And why should I make an exception?"

That's the true problem. Both Billy and Roberts know it, judging by the predatory look in his eyes.

Why, indeed.

"True love?" Billy tries.

Roberts laughs.

"She must be an exceptional lay, to make you believe someone will let you live only so that you'll be able to bed her again!"

"Wouldn't know, I've never wanted to fuck my best friend. Is there truest, purest love than the one that's never been tainted by lust or carnal needs?"

The Dread Pirate Roberts laughs even more and then shakes his head.

"Unbelievable," he says in a stage whisper. "What's your name, boy?"

"Billy."

"Well, Billy, I find myself in sudden need of a personal attendant." Roberts pauses for a beat, cocks his head to the side. Predatory is now an understatement for the look in those dark eyes. "Do a good job and one day you'll be able to return home to your best friend. Do a bad job, and your friend will never see you again. Are you interested in the position?"

Billy grits his teeth and never lets his gaze waver from Roberts.

The decision is so simple he doesn't even need to think about it. He nods and Roberts smiles.

Billy doesn't know what's in his future, but he'll do all he can to survive whatever Roberts throws his way and then return home. His best friend is waiting for him.

And with this, my installment of the race is done and it's time to head over to @liverditty in an hour for his contribution! I can't wait to see what he created for this beautiful event! I was tagged by @peaches-n-screem, thank you! it's always fun to take some time to pause on what's currently occupying my free time! And to share it with the Tumblr crew!

Last Song: Hold On to You by Ann Brun (the revisited version). It's a song that nearly brought me to tears while I was writing the last chapter of The Mechanics of Grief.

Favorite Color: I'm constant on that: Klein's blue forever.

Currently Watching: We just started Peaky Binders after the show was recomended to us by like... half our friends and familly. I have great expectations now. I just finished Stranger Things, that I liked a lot more than I expected! Gained a new ship, as if I needed more...

Last Movie: Oppenheimer. I really love Nolan's movies, this one is no exception, even though I thought it a bit naive on Oppenheimer himself. I really love Nolan's obsession with space and physics, and the way he shows it on screen.

Currently Reading: I have a list of real book I can't seem to get into, so I'm surrently reading Cherry Pie, a Harringrove fic (from Stranger Things) and it's amazing, clearly a favorite of mine, despite the 130k words being crammed into 2 chapters (even I didn't do that xD). After that, I have Funny you should ask from @civilization-illstayrighthere and The College Years from @timaeusterrored to read and enjoy! Back to SilverVdyne!

Sweet/Savory/Spicy: Spicy everyday >:)

Relationship Status: in a very uneventful and, on the outside, super cliché relationship with a man I love so much it's stupid. We're also poly.

Current Obsession: As I said, I finished Stranger Things, and let my obsession with Dacre Montgomery run wild so I'm knee deep into Steve Harrington/Billy Hargrove and I have to say it's nice to get into a ship with so many fics. It's like... comforting, after Cyberpunk and John Wick (though I only have myself to blame for choosing rarepairs!)

Last Google: Gaspacho recipe ;)

Currently Working On: I'm not working on anything. I have a WIP for an original work that I complexified so much it's now terrifying me. I still have a few ideas about a follow up for my John Wick fics, but I'm not writing anything for real. I just finished a very dear project, writing Kerry going through the stage of grief after Johnny's death (so, it's Silverdyne but I think it's more like a declaration of love to Kerry), for Koda, and now I'm reaping the rewards, getting giddy as I read his reactions xD. Best part of writing for a friend!

Imagine a modern AU where Billy is an actor and Steve is the frontliner in an indie band called the Demo Crew. They’re not superstars or anything but are pretty blessed to have a really committed fanbase. Demo Crew is contracted to do the soundtrack on Billy’s latest film which is another huge step for them because of the exposure. Steve tweets about how he is awed that any of those studio suits even knew their unusual music but is super grateful for the opportunity and having a blast, and his fans notice that Billy’s official account likes the tweet. But things really heat up during the press tour when their mutual fans start noticing that Billy talks about the films music whenever he can. He’s always bringing questions back around to how the music makes the film and the scenes what they are etc. “It would have been a totally different film without Steve, Eddie and those guys.”

People start to notice things, like the way Billy rarely just says the band’s name but instead singles out the band members or sometimes just Steve. Like he has a personal relationship with them or something, and the (until then) niche Harringrove Shippers come alive like Muchu. They smell a story and they’re on the case. Somebody digs up old photo and video of Billy’s metal head days before he was famous and a whole theory is making the rounds about how he’s behind a certain avatar on the official fan forum “flayed club” and his publicist is forcing him to hide it for the sake of his clean cut image. Somebody else recognizes a bunch of blurry pins that look like they might be ones from the bands merch store in a couple of more recent photos. Controversy starts heating up between the shippers and some of Billy’s more conservative fans because of the dark themes in the music.

“I loved the soundtrack for the film, but lets face it Demo Crews ordinary stuff is kinda twisted. I just don’t think Billy’s the kind of guy who would be into that.”

“Can someone open a window? I can smell the bullshit moral panic from here. Look it’s obvious that even if Billy isn’t behind “Master_Puppet that he is one of the flayed, and you know what? THAT’S OKAY. It’s insane that in this day and age he’s being told he has to hide his interests just to make himself palatable to a bunch of pearl clutching PTA moms.”

Billy speaks up for his poor management team at the next interview. No he’s never been told he has to hide any part of himself and he’s lucky to work with a really great team who look out for him and always encourage him to be true to himself even when that’s hard for him, but he appreciates how passionate the fans are. He only knows a little about it but Flayed Club is a great space and he loves the energy and creativity happening there. Oh of course Jimmy, he’s a huge fan of Demo Crew. Funny story, he’s known for forcing new people he meets to listen to his favorite album. He thought he was taking a shot in the dark when he suggested that their vibe would be perfect for the project, but it turned out Jan over at the studio was also a big fan. Steve likes and reblogs the interview clip and captions it with “best reference we ever got”.

The fandom is on fire. Master_Puppet confirmed! Also Billy is basically the reason the band got hired. Everyone is rabid to know if/how/when Billy met his favorite band, also if he and Steve are friends. I mean, people would ship them anyway because they’d look gorgeous together but really it’s the way Billy always says Steve’s name first and the way he says it. It’s the way that as Billy opens up more on instagram about his past struggles, and why he relates to certain lyrics, that it just seems so in sync with the things that Steve has said about why he wrote them and why the band chooses to explore such dark material. Mashups and compilations with #soulmates trickle from the flayed club out to twitter and tik-tok, until it feels like the whole world is shipping them. “I know they probably don’t even know each other but I just think they’d be perfect together.”

“But isn’t Steve dating @RockinRobin? 😂 I mean, they live together!!!” The hetero police come out in full force to defend Steve’s assumed hetero, offended at the very idea that someone could think two men might get on well together. Robin would never fan a fan war online, Steve, she’s far too busy and adult for that. But she does make a point to dig up the taco earrings Steve got her for Christmas once and wear them with her Lesbi-Honest T-shirt and take a bunch of selfies for the gram. #theothersoulmate

So it’s pure carnage online. Some people are still convinced that this confirmation that Steve and Robin are partners while others are sure she’s directly referencing the flayed and #soulmates. Robins not the only one who seems to like teasing the fans. They’re always hungry for new Harringrove proof and go crazy when Billy and Steve like each other’s posts or interact at all, and sometimes it feels like Steve’s band mates and Billy’s friends will post deliberate references to the soulmate theory. TikTok queen ElevenEmpirePenguins makes a viral video captioned “When all of your friends know you’re in love with them before you do” with a clip from some rom com Billy starred in, and Max puts it on her twitter. Steve’s band mate Eddie comments “Blue Jean Rhapsody” a popular track on their second album under a picture of Billy and his costar Heather. Which leads to fans lamenting that there’s no music video for that song already and theorizing that maybe the band is going to collab with him to create one because that song was like, made for Billy.

There’s fireworks the first time Billy and Steve publicly meet. It’s during awards season, when Billy and the band are both guests on a talk show. Body language experts are popping out of the woodwork to analyze every look and gesture, down to how close they sat together on the couch. Billy looks at Steve like he wants to lick him up and Steve’s got like no chill. He was either just struck by cupid’s bow or possessed by the spirit of a blushing love bug.

“Whoa. Did we just watch Harringrove become reality in real time?!!! 😍”

When the host asks if they’re aware of the soulmate theory, Steve stays on flustered and Billy gets coy. “Oh yeah, well it’s been a whirlwind and there’s not a lot of time to focus on much outside of work. But yeah it’s great. I think people just love to be in love and if it makes them happy to play matchmaker, well that’s fun. As long as it’s not hurting anyone do what makes you happy.”

it’s interesting to me to hear that dacre thinks billy wouldn’t hang out with the crew even if he got saved and things bc yeah that vibes but it also cements for me that of everyone in the main cast that we get he really would be friends with/closest to eddie.

like lbr, out of everyone in the cast he has the most in common with eddie just on paper. eddie’s also a loner/outsider type like billy, he’s just more personable which would help facilitate a friendship. i can actually see them hanging out and having shit to talk about you know? i struggle to do that with him and everyone else, even steve. and trust me i spend a lot of time behind the scenes sweating blood over how the steve-billy dynamic works because i do want it-- usually more in a platonic sense in my own case but that’s because i struggle to see the romantic end. but the reality is i struggle to find a common ground between those two characters that can then be used as a launching pad. they just don’t have a lot in common personality/background or interests wise were billy and eddie do. (i’ll also say having lots of similarity isn’t needed for a friendship/romance but having like 1 thing you both like is an excellent starting point. as it stands i have to work to find ways to get steve and billy in a room and talking which is you know, Work.)

i really think it’s a shame that the eddie fandom is largely dipshits at the moment because they’re missing out on something magical. i’m not even talking shipping. i love mungrove but like, i like it because they have a really solid sense of compatibility. they’ve got Those Two Guys™ energy. if billy and eddie are not best friends in your post s4 written fic then i just-- don’t know what to tell you. but to me that reads as so wrong because i cannot imagine a world where billy didn’t see a dude with a MASSIVE DIO PATCH ON HIS BACK and didn’t go “oh i fuck with this dude”.

and this isn’t an anti-post or anything. while i don’t really see harringrove i do respect it and those who are passionate about it. i just think that mungrove and the potential friendship between billy and eddie is underrated and at times even looked at poorly because of the situation with eddie’s fans atm. which i get. it’s hard to like eddie for some people because of how the fandom treats him vs how they treat billy and how he’s basically used as a hammer against us billy fans and the harringrove comm.

but i also think it’s important to step back, do our best to block out the haters and dipshits and look objectively at eddie as a character. because when i do that i am literally looking at billy’s new best friend. and billy needs and deserves all the best friends. and also the fact is that like 90% of the eddie and steddie fandoms are not even fucking accurately writing eddie. which is so fucking insulting to us eddie fans who you know, like him and see him as he IS.

eddie is not a replacement billy, he’s not a “more socially acceptable” billy. he’s a complimentary force to billy. he’s billy’s ideal sidekick. he’s a weird little freak of a metalhead who can shred like a GOD and has a huge heart. he’s less aggressive or confrontational but he WILL hold a bottle to someone who he thinks is a threat to him. he’s extremely brave when it comes to doing right by others, he cares deeply. if eddie had known billy in s3 he would’ve been championing to save him. he would’ve died trying to save him if he had to. he literally put his life on the line for chrissy who he barely knew just because it was Right in his mind to get justice for her. imagine what he would do for a friend?

steddie is another ship that i don’t inherently dislike but i struggle to see because there’s really nothing in common there to work with. the more i see of the ship and how it’s portrayed by the majority atm the more i don’t think these people actually understand eddie. he’s not an uwu quirky weirdo baby. he’s literally a criminal, he’s ready and willing to commit violence if he needs to, he’s got a huge amount of undiagnosed and untreated issues that are ruining his life, he’s an INCREDIBLY strong personality and most people don’t like him for a reason. he doesn’t give a shit about like 90% of the stuff the rest of the cast cares about. he and steve have completely opposite outlooks and life goals.

It’s very frustrating to me to see the billy-eddie dynamic largely overlooked but i know why it’s happening. it’s also very frustrating to me to see eddie so blatantly fucked up by the fandom and then see others not want to engage with his actual character because of the negative connotations with the assholes in the larger community. like billy’s already canonically had a friend like eddie in the past we meet him in runaway max. his name is sid and he’s a punk dude and he’s very sweet. he shows max a whole magazine of guitars.

tl;dr : billy and eddie would 100000000% be best friends and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to take a moment to really clear their head of biases and look again at what we actually know about these characters and the context they’d be meeting in.

Woah. Guys. What the hell happened last night?

Just saw the screenshots an anon sent me. I just got the gist of it right now. There was some sort of poll about which ST ship was the best and Harringrove won or was winning or something. And the author of that poll was pretty clearly biased against it so they deleted it I guess. Now I agree that being openly biased in a poll that’s supposed to be impartial was kinda weird, esp. if they were deleting voters that openly voted for Harringrove. That’s rigging a poll.

What’s not alright is that I’m hearing the OP got harassed over it?

Listen, I’m getting kind of tired of the antagonism. From BOTH sides. Of course I see Billy antis bursting in some of our inboxes and posts every day, saying we’re basically the devil for liking a fictional character and stuff. But I can also see some of our folks overtly vagueing about and starting arguments with antis for posting something as simple as “Billy Hargrove triggers me”.

I don’t think many people understand that the concept of boundaries goes both ways.

For Billy fans: any of us should be able to state “I love the character of Billy Hargrove without supporting his bad actions and this is not indicative of who I am as a person (something obvious)” without getting harassed or having death threats sent over it.

For Billy antis: any of you should be able to state “Billy Hargrove triggers me as a character (or even ‘I hate Billy Hargrove as a character’) and I don’t want to see content related to him” without getting harassed over it.

Harassment will never be alright and it even seems like the OP of that poll will be inactive for a while because of it. I am pretty ashamed of the lot of you (us, Billy fans) who are correct about not deserving to get harassed over liking a fictional character, but who then turn around and do the same and are overtly smug to people who genuinely don’t like him or are even triggered by him.

Can we please have a civilized conversation just once. In the comments if you want, but let’s not be hostile.

id probably say my harringrove childhood best friends au cuz like... 1. my brain churns out ideas faster than i can type so theres all these parts i want to get to but cant cuz i gotta write other shit first and thats hard lol and 2. i gotta write character interactions that are not just billy and steve and i gotta be honest, i have a real hard time in general writing anything outside of my ships. like i would very much just like to cut to the main action but no. i gotta world build and set up a moment and unfortunately sometimes that involves bringing in other characters. tragic

6. Overrated ship: normally I would say steddie, but I also love them, too, so I'm gonna say ronance. I can see it, but at the same time... meh?

7. One thing I would change in canon: a lot of the random, unneeded deaths. Bob, Billy, Alexei, Benny, Barb, Chrissy? I feel like none of those needed to happen for the plot to move along, and even if they did, like they didn't have to make them like an "Oh well, they're dead :/" thing. Like, they didn't deserve that. And even if they didn't do that, the way the other characters reacted to the deaths was kinda shallow, too. Like Nancy losing Barb would broken my heart a lot more if they didn't use her mourning as a plot device to make her lose Steve and hook up with Jonathan.

8. Something canon did right: the character dynamics. The way they had the kids fighting over petty shit while bad things were happening, how Dustin didn't have a dad so he latched onto Steve as an older brother type positive influence, the way Hopper had to get used to being a dad again and ask Joyce for help? All of that was just beautifully done.

9. A thing I'm proud of creating for the Fandom PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART: All of my works on Ao3, but probably my favorite (at the moment) is my fic So Give Him Inches and Feed Him Well or my six fic series Cool To Hate.

10. A character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): Max, Lucas, Dustin and Will. They're all so sweet and funny and I love them.

11. The character I relate to the most and why: normally I would say Billy, but lately it's been more Max. She's stuck in a house with a jerk of an older brother who goes off like a volcano over the littlest things, though most of the time he's dormant unless he wants to annoy her, and she has to witness him and the only father figure she has fighting all the time. Getting into screaming matches, sometimes getting physical, and while in my situation it's more the son causing problems for the father, it's still bad. The only reprieve I get is when I'm out with my friends, and even though I still care about both of them, I'm starting to lose that love for one of them (in her case Neil, in my case my brother) because of how they treat everyone else and acts like everything is normal afterwards.

12. The character I hate the most and why: Karen Fucking Wheeler. How she can go from being a concerned, doting mother in season one to pretty much a sexual predator in the span of a few seasons, I'll never know. I could understand if she cheated on Ted and went after someone her own age, but the fact that she went after a boy no older than her daughter just makes me sick. And yes, Billy flirted with her, too, but come on. He's a misguided 17-18 year old abused kid looking for any kind of affection wherever he can get it. And Karen is the adult. She should fucking know better.

13. Something I've learned from the fandom: How to politely disagree with people and kill them with kindness. That's why I have an anti's ask pinned to the top of my blog, because I want people to know that I don't care who or what they like, so I'll respect them, but if they come onto my blog actively trying to start shit, I will not fucking stand for it :)

(alternate title, “Playing Like Queers”)

It was expected that they would be mean to each other on the court, fucking in the locker room though? That part was new

The teasing during basketball was expected, even anticipated.

"That all you've got?" Steve said, his planted heels the only thing preventing the blond from knocking over. He was sweating through his shirt, having been playing for over an hour, but he barely noticed.

"You'll see what I got when you stop shooting like a fuckin' queer!" Billy replied, shouldering past him and making a goal. His skin was warm, and shimmering, but he was completely in his element.

They'd been going back and forth all period, their sides were neck and neck.

Steve stole the ball, laughing as he ran to the other side of the court, "Of course you'd know best how a queer plays!"

Right as he managed to score, the bell rang, declaring Steve's team the winner. Billy had been right on his tail making across the court, and when he realised what had happened, he shoved Steve. This time the older boy wasn't expecting it and was knocked to the floor, barely avoiding knocking his teeth out. "Asshole."

"The fuck did you just say?"

Steve pushed him up and turned around, practically nose to nose with the bully, "I called you an asshole. Could you not hear me through all that stupid hair?"

They both paused, glaring daggers across the inch between them. Billy was a couple inches taller, but Steve's anger more than made up for it, his hands curling into fists.

Quickly, their coach ran over, placing a hand on each of their chests, "all right, all right, hit the showers!"

Billy made a face, like he wanted to say something else before walking off towards the locker room. Steve followed close behind, noticing there were already a lot of boys leaving.

Thanks to their argument, they were the last two into the room, and were completely alone.

"Just for the record, your team had no chance." Steve said haughtily while taking his shirt off. He was thin but all lean muscle.

"Oh says King Steve the has been." Billy rolled his eyes as he stepped into the nearest shower, of which there weren't very many.

Steve slammed his hand on the locker next to his, "I told you to stop calling me that stupid name!"

"Whatcha gonna do about it?" Billy leant against the wall, projecting the perfect air of uncaring. Underneath that though? He was itching for a fight, his hands already twitching towards fists, he enjoyed fighting almost as much as fucking, so long as he won.

Steve, now ready for the shower himself, without thinking, stormed towards the blond, his forearm firm across the older boy's chest. "I don't think you wanna find out."

"And what if I do?

"You wanna get punched?"

Billy's eyes drifted towards his lips, red with anger, before trailing down the boy's form. "Are you fucking hard right now?"

In an instant they were flipped, the air was knocked out of Steve as his back hit the wall hard, and Billy wasn't exactly wrong, all the adrenaline and nakedness had hit his system and he was already halfway hard.

His demeanour changed fast enough to give Billy whiplash, from angry and violent to nearly terrified and blushing pink, "shut up and listen, I can explain!"

"Oh explain that I was right? That king Steve is a fucking queer?" Billy laughed, his forearm starting to press harder on the brunet’s throat. Steve's hands came up, scrambling to try and free himself

"I came in here itching for a fight but honestly, this is way more interesting." He reached down, grabbing Steve's dick at the base. "Here's what's gonna happen. You're gonna get on your knees, and I'm gonna fuck that dumb looking mouth of yours."

"Fuck you!" Steve croaked out, hoping Billy wouldn't notice his dick twitching and getting harder at the idea.

Billy's hand came back up just to slap him. He was nearly shouting when he continued,"I wasn't fucking finished!" He leaned in to speak right against his ear, the change scaring Steve but not making him any less hard.

"I'm gonna fuck your stupid mouth and if you're lucky, you'll get to swallow. If you aren't I'll fuck your ass right here where anyone who walks in can see who's really in charge at this school." He slapped Steve across the face again. "Understood?"

Steve hesitated, not wanting to admit how much he wanted to be unlucky. "Fuck off."

"I don't give a shit." He finally released Steve's throat and shoved him to the floor, not caring how hard his knees hit the tile. Here Steve noticed for the first time that Billy was hard as a rock, and big, suddenly Steve felt scared again. "Open up. And if you bite me, I will fucking kill you." Steve had a feeling that that specific threat wasn't empty, so reluctantly he opened his mouth, trying to remember how it felt the few times a girl had done this for him.

Soon the blond’s dick was in his mouth, the skin was soft, although it tasted a bit like sweat, it wasn't totally unpleasant. He barely had a chance to get used to it before it was shoved to the back of his throat, much farther than he was able to take. He gagged, and Billy pulled it only a couple inches out before pushing back in brutally. The boy groaned, grabbing the brunet’s hair and starting a merciless pace.

Steve couldn't quite figure out how to breathe between strokes, occasionally gasping around the tip as tears pricked at his eyes and he gagged loud enough for Billy to hear.

"You fucking like this? You like getting facefucked like a whore? You're damn good for it, not mouthing off anymore." Once he started talking he couldn't stop, even as he leaned forwards to rest his head against the wall, "God your mouth is so fucking warm, can't believe I didn't do this sooner."

Steve couldn't help but look up at him, and as their eyes met he was the perfect image of debauchery. His eyes were teary, his hair was a mess from Billy's hands, his lips and cheeks were red from the abuse and his blushing, and the whole lower half of his face was sticky with spit.

Billy finally pulled out, causing Steve to gasp for air. "Fucking answer me. Do you like being a whore?" He gripped the base of his cock tightly as he smeared a mixture of precum and spit across Steve's cheeks.

Steve's voice was rough and rasping, his throat clearly sore, "go to hell!" It was clear he didn't mean it, as the lust came through in his voice and his dick left a mess of its own on his stomach.

Billy laughed, hauling him up by his hair while turning him to face the wall and holding him there, "that's too bad, I guess you're just unlucky. If I move to grab something will you stay put?"

"...That depends." Steve admitted that he didn't want this to stop, but he also couldn't help but be a little scared of what Billy wanted to grab.

"Chill out Harrington, I'm getting shit so I don't rip your ass open." Billy rolled his eyes, it was obvious they both wanted this and he was tired of keeping up pretences.

"What do you just carry lube everywhere with you?" Steve laughed as Billy walked away, and he readjusted to stand more comfortably and watch the blond walk to his bag, his hips swinging in a way that was pure sex.

"Yep."

"Well damn, you must be a boyscout, all prepared for this." Steve goaded, and finally got a genuine laugh out of Billy.

"Absolutely not. I used to beat up boyscouts" Billy reminisced almost fondly.

"Why am I not surprised?"

In mere moments, Billy was coming back, a small tube in his hands.

"Shut up and go back to facing the wall before I make you." His voice wasn't particularly malicious, instead being warmed with lust that drove a shiver up Steve's spine, but they both knew it wasn't an empty threat.

Steve paused before grinning, "I'd like to see you try." Billy smirked, grabbing both the boy's hands in a punishing grip and slamming them against the wall above his head.

"Fine, we can do this the hard way. Just know I gave you a chance for it to be different." He smoothly squirted lube onto his fingers before setting the tube on a nearby shelf of soap products. It was still cold when his fingers found their way to Steve's hole. The older boy couldn't help but whimper as the first finger entered him.

"Fucking pathetic, can't even handle one finger." Billy cursed, drawing another whimper from the boy as he started fingering him with the same brutal pace he used on his mouth. He didn't want to actually hurt Steve, but his dick was straining impatiently, so he was adding another finger before the boy was truly ready. Steve gasped, a mis of pain and pleasure as he'd never encountered before. He could admit that he'd always been attracted to girls with a dominant streak, and although he'd never imagined he would end up here, he suddenly wasn't sure how he'd survive without this happening frequently.

@mania-mono I had to move my reply so I can give this my best shot at an answer without worrying about a word limit. So here I go, and pardon any pre-coffee typos.

I don’t speak for every Billy fan, because I can’t, nor do I speak for every POC because I can’t do that either. Blanket statements, generalities, and opinions grounded in the belief that what you see in front of you - which can only ever be a sample size - is everything, leads to closed mindedness. We are all vulnerable to these things. I think it is human nature to accept what we see and what we are told, in order to make friendly in our groups. So that we feel accepted as well as acceptable and to never think beyond that.

So I understand where opinions like “People only care about Billy because Dacre is attractive [and white]” come from. Within those opinions I can hear the faint echos of social discourse that I as a woman of color have had to bring to the table at one time or another, and I recognize that there is a merit of thought there, that I am 100% sure some fans need to reckon with.

I will never be the person sitting out here trying to disprove that the general fandom is suddenly unproblematic and completely free of the persuasion of whiteness combined with attractiveness and a preference for men.

This black girl will certainly never tell you that she hasn’t run into Billy friendly hot takes and writing that did have whiffs of white washing and erasure that made her uncomfortable and irritated at times. I have no reason to be afraid or to hide from that fact because it’s my lived reality. Every day in every fandom, in every ship. It’s my reality. It sucks. And I am confident and grounded enough in my own thinking to say something when I feel it needs to be said, or to just move on and find something better to read for my own peace of mind.

Yes, some Billy fans are problematic. But that is not my whole experience nor even half of it, and that matters.

Because I will also tell you that in my year or more of engaging in Harringrove fandom I have experienced that type of blindness and bias less than I have in other fandom spaces I have taken part in.That’s why I am here. I do not subject myself to being in places that make me consistently uncomfortable.

My empathy for the character brought me, and I stay because it’s a lovely place to explore my thoughts & feelings and make friends. For the most part I have found this pocket of fandom to be filled with nice people who actually do think through the characters flaws and have conversations about culture and social issues as often as any other fandom space. We bond, we have fun, and occasionally I might get into a debate with someone who I disagree with or disagrees with me about how we perceive the character’s flaws and their cultural impact.

I will tell you that I avoid many other subsections of Stranger Things fandom because my experience was that the balance is not the same in other tags. Because I felt consistently attacked, provoked, and silenced. Not just where it comes to discussions about race, but also disability, fat phobia, and my experiences of trauma and surviving abuse.

The problem I see a lot in fandom is that people are very good at manipulating others. There are whole communities that thrive on the basis of taking popular progressive opinions and using it to bully others for their entertainment or to control their behavior, or both. They rely on the public memory of the valuable work other people have done within culture and use those talking points to invoke fear and shame in their peers for their own selfish reasons. To feel good in the moment. For more reblogs. To feel like they’re part of the winning “team”. To feel like they’re meeting requirements of acceptable behavior. And for many more reasons I’m sure.

Whatever their reason, these folks know when they type out, “people only like Billy because Dacre is attractive”, that most people will instantly remember every discussion they ever sat through on the topic of bias and think ‘I don’t want to be that guy’. Because that’s natural and good and without those natural and good instincts we couldn’t be manipulated into a fear response. But the reality is even just a little bit of critical thinking would make it obvious how biased and unreasonable this take is.

When I hear “People only...” no mater what follows, a little yellow warning light goes off in the back of my mind. Because yes we can joke about certain things and make dumb memes for the fun, but when it comes to making a serious judgment, “People only” is a dangerous place to start. More people need to remember that.

Because I don’t think anyone actually needs to spend a great deal of time talking to Billy fans or researching much of anything at all to debunk this theory. If you replace Billy’s name with any aspect of his character that a person might relate to it falls apart. Because they are there to be related to. And if they are there to be related to, you’d have to be carrying some deep seeded rage and wearing some thick ass blinders to stick to the argument that you truly believe that nothing but white male attractiveness matters to anyone.

“People only care about that teenager because his actor is good looking.”

“People only care about that child, whose mother left, because his actor is good looking.”

“People only care about that blue collar boy because his actor is good looking.”

“People only care about that child of divorce...”

“People only care about that boy who was forced to move towns right in the middle of high school because...”

“People only care about that kid whose dad was abusing him because...”

“People only care about that kid who was dragged into the dark by a monster one night and violated because....”

I think the ridiculousness as well as the danger of this thought process speaks for itself.

I think that if someone finds it easy to believe a blanket statement like “People only care about Billy because Dacre is hot,” and can’t think up a single other reason someone else might relate to the character and talk about it honestly while defending their opinion, that’s their problem and not mine or yours. Either this is someone who doesn’t think much for themselves and is just parroting others, or someone who knows what they are saying probably isn’t actually true, but doesn’t care because the aim is to hurt some and manipulate others.
