Wait for the Bonelli Cinematic Universe blasting its way with Dampyr in October! 🤩

Dampyr is an italian production with a budget of over 15 million dollars based on the comic series "Dampyr" published by Sergio Bonelli Editore and tells the story of Harlan Draka: an half-vampire (a dhampir) who hunts down vampires and undeads. The story's set in the SFR Yugoslavia in 1992 during the Yugoslav Wars and adapts the first two issues of the series that came out in 2000.

Dampyr's been shot in Romania and entirely in english with an international cast, starring Wade Briggs as Harlan Draka and David Morrissey as the antagonist Gorka among others, and it's gonna be the first of a number of movies and tv shows based on Bonelli's legendary characters!

The movie's gonna premiere on 28th October during Lucca Comics and Games 2022. Still no news of an international release but I'm pretty sure there's gonna be one (of course there's gonna be, I don't think the producers have any expectations for a movie like this to do good in Italy 😒).

I'll most definetely be in cinema for Dampyr. Even though I don't read the comic (not because I don't like it, I've read some issues and it's great, it's just I'd need two lives to read everything! 😅), but everytime someone has the balls to do something different in Italy they must be supported at all costs!!! And by the trailer, it looks great!

If Bonelli put the same care in this movie they put in comics, than the Bonelli Cinematic Universe has a bright future ahead!! 😃

When All The World's A Stage, and Dampyr Needs a Home to Play....

Just now Dampyr escaped me is that it didn't get a lot of publicity back when it first came out last year. I like the idea, and hopefully more can be done in the next film #vampires #moviereview

Dampyr: The Devil's Son by Boselli, Colombo and Majo

This is the first volume of the Dampyr comic book series. My brother has been reading these comics for years and I never picked one up, so what the new edition that includes the first two volumes came out alongside with informations on the movie that is being made I decided to give this a try. I have only read the first volume, and I am not sure I'll be reading the second one, because although I overall liked the idea and the illustrations I thought the characters were insufferable, and it did not motivate me at all to go on. This is an horror comic book series about Harlan Draka, a Dampyr, which means he is the son of a human woman and of a vampire. This makes him one of the only few people who can arm vapires, and this volume introduces the characters and overall idea at the base of the comics. As I was saying I think the base idea is interesting, but this first volume didn't captivate me as I hoped, and the characters did absolutely nothing for me. I could not care less about them, some conversations felt unrealisting, and I am not sure I'll be reading the second volume, maybe in the future I'll give this another try.

Almost four years after the announcement of the making of the Dampyr film, Eagle Pictures and Bonelli have revealed the first poster of the film. Coming once again from Italy, this horror novel is about a half-human half vampire trying to stop evil monsters with his comrades during a civil war in the Balkans. It is very heavy on action and detailed visuals with a great atmosphere . The plot is set during the Balkan war in the early nineties. Haunted by horrible nightmares, Harlan Draka wanders the countryside, shamelessly making money pretending to be a Dampyr (half-human and half-vampire) ridding villages of what the villagers naively believe to be evil monsters. But, when he is summoned by soldiers who are under attack by real vampires, Harlan finds out the truth: he is a Dampyr. While trying to destroy a terrible Master of the Night, he will have to learn to manage his powers and find out more about his origins.

Biography: Tesla’s family came from Brno, Slovakia, to West Berlin due to political motivations when she was a child. Later a young Tesla become a member of a revolutionary group called “The Tigers”. The group wasn’t as serious (and violent) as Rote Armee Faktion, but they were wanted by the police too. Despite she tells that she joined “The Tigers” for her rebel attitude, she thought it was only a ecxtiting game. In this period she met Shawn Karver, a talented musician and song writer, and his friend Benno Lenz.

Shawn and Benno wasn’t members of “The Tigers”, but used to show their revolutionary idealism with words and songs. Despite her friends considered Shawn a coward, she thought that he was the most beautiful person she ever meet and fell in love with him.

One terrible night, her ecxting game ended brutally: their enemies (maybe police or army) captured them using a bai.

Tthat night they discovered that the people they thougth to have the power were slaves of a cruel Vampire Master.

Tesla’s friends were all immediantly killed by vampire pack, but she was left for two days and two nights tied to a chair, surrounded by her friend’s dead bodies. Impressed by her impetous and fierce nature, Shrek, NIght Master of Berlin, decidede to give Tesla as a present to his ally Gorka, a powerful Master in serbian territory. Gorka turned her into a vampire, a slave.

For a little time Tesla was Gorka’s lover, but he prefer her as warrior and lieutenant, along with another vampire called Caesar.

Twenty years after, Gorka is trying to conquer more territory, taking advantage from wars in Jugoslavia. Gorka and his pack attacked a squad of serbian-bosnian soldiers, commanded by Emil Kurjak, a former engineer, tired of the brutality of war, in the bosnian village of Vorvolak. A soldier propose to Kurjak to call a man of his birth village, who is said to be a dampyr, the son of a human woman (witch) and a vampire, the only who can kill those monsters. The man is Harlan Draka, he is born at the end of the second world war, but for unknown reasons he look like a young man of 25 years. Harlan with his friend Yuri, a cunning and very young boy, travels from village to village offering his services to the paesants as dampyr: they are crooks who pretend to resolve vampirism cases, taking advantage from the voices around Harlan Draka’s parents. At beginning Harlan is sceptical and confess to Kurjak to be only a crook, but during the night they discover that Harlan can really kill vampires and captured Tesla. Talking with her, Harlan and Kurjak make her bring out her umanity and resist to the mind-control of her master.

Repented for what she did, Tesla tells them what she knows about Night Masters’ race and that dampyr blood is like poison for them and their creature. The soldies decide to run away from the village, bringing Yuri with them and lefting behind Harlan, Tesla and their commander, Kurjak, who refuses to disobey orders. But they were all killed by Gorka’s pack, who turns Yuri and some others of them into a vampires. Later the vampire’s pack attacks again the village, but the bullets impregnated with Harlan’s blood killed Yuri and the large part of them.

Destroyed for the death of his friend Yuri, Harlan makes an oath of revenge agains Gorka, who will be killed after a terrible fight in Sarajevo, making Tesla definitly free and decides to join Harlan and Kurjak war against Night Masters (and later Evil). Later Tesla return in Berlin because she red in newspapers that Shawn Karver, her ex boyfriend, now a famous rock-star, is dying of an unknown desease (maybe cancer blood). She entered in his mansion and find him at bad, very proved by his illness, with catheter and mechanical ventilator, Tesla talks to him and discovers that now Benno Lenz is his manager and trys to force Shawn to make a will favouring him. At the end Tesla decides finally to take her revenge against Benno, who confesses that selling “The Tigers” to the authorities was an idea of Shawn and that they used the reward money to produce their first record, and he started to hate Shawn for what he forced him to do. Tesla, feeling betrayed and deceived, completes her revenge killing both Benno and Shawn.

At the beginning Tesla shows a love interest for Harlan Darka, maybe because he gives her back her human emotions and feelings and frees her from slavery in the pack of Gorka, but they can’t be lovers because dampyr’s fluids will be letal to her and because Harlan sees her as best friend.

So she begins a difficuoult love relationship with Emil Kurjak, the only human member of the squad.

Dampyr: svelato il first look del film al Lucca Comics 2019

A un anno esatto dall’annuncio del film, sempre in occasione del Lucca Comics and Games, la Sergio Bonelli Editore ha ufficialmente annunciato il cast di Dampyr – il film, l’adattamento per il grande schermo del personaggio a fumetti inventato da Mauro Boselli e Maurizio Colombo.

Si tratta del primo film della Bonelli Entertainment e del primo progetto del Bonelli Cinematic Universe, annunciato sempre nella stessa occasione, che, immaginiamo, vedrà schierati sul grande schermo tutti i personaggi Bonelli più amati di sempre, a partire proprio dal relativamente giovane Harlan, eroe riluttante protagonista delle pagine di Dampyr.

Al centro di Piazza Antelminelli, di fronte al padiglione Bonelli, è stato svelato un enorme cubo con i primi character poster del film, che raffigurato i tre “eroi” principali della storia: al centro Harlan, il Dampyr, che ha il volto di Wade Briggs (Please Like Me, Still Star-Crossed); alla sua destra Tesla, interpretata dall’attrice svedese Frida Gustavsson (Dröm); alla sinistra Kurjak, con il volto di Stuart Martin (I Medici, Crossing Lines). Un cast internazionale per una produzione che guarda a quel mercato, pur partendo da maestranze e PI made in Italy.

Nella stessa occasione, Michele Masiero, Direttore Editoriale di Sergio Bonelli Editore, ha affermato senza mezzi termini che, sebbene il pubblico sia abituato all’abbondante flusso di cinecomics che arrivano da Oltreoceano, questo è un passo davvero enorme per una produzione italiana.

Gli fa eco anche Nanni Cobretti (I 400 calci) che commenta la notizia: “Sono molto emozionato, perché se c’è qualcuno che in Italia ha il materiale per lavorare in questo universo è la Bonelli. Dampyr è una storia che si presta benissimo all’adattamento cinematografico, e sono contento che si tratti di un film di genere. È bello che si investa in questo genere di progetti, ma anche in storie di vampiri che rimettono al suo posto il mito della creatura, dopo il recente cambiamento della percezione del vampiro al cinema (da Twilight in poi).”

Presenti all’evento anche due degli sceneggiatori del film, Giovanni Masi e Mauro Uzzeo, che insieme ad Alberto Ostini hanno trasformato il linguaggio dei fumetti in quello del cinema. Uzzeo dà una precisa indicazione su quello che dovremo aspettarci dal film, ovvero un’alto livello di fedeltà ai personaggi del fumetto: “Nel momento in cui siamo stati chiamati a prendere parte al progetto, lavorando con tutto il gruppo capitanato da Vincenzo Sarno, Giovanni Mattioli, Antonio Navarra e Michele Masiero, il rispetto per il personaggio di Boselli e Colombo è stato totale. La volontà è quella di raccontare al cinema il cuore del personaggio, senza fargli perdere nessuna delle sue caratteristiche. Se siete lettori del fumetto, impazzirete per il film, perché ritroverete tutti gli aspetti del personaggio.”

Giovanni Masi aggiunge: “L’emozione è tantissima, Dampyr è un personaggio incredibile e sposo completamente l’opinione di Cobretti, sono molto contento di aver scritto un film su vampiri seri. Quello che arriverà dopo Dampyr è davvero tanto, dati i 70 anni di storia della Bonelli, ma non posso dire di più, altrimenti vengo licenziato! Ci vediamo al cinema.”

Oltre a Wade Briggs, Frida Gustavsson e Stuart Martin, al cast si aggiungono poi David Morrissey (Good Omens) come Gorka, Sebastian Croft (Il Trono di Spade) come Yuri, e Luke Roberts (300: Rise of an Empire) come Draka.

Come accennato, il film sarà fedele alle storie a fumetti e si basa sui primi due albi, è ambientato durante la Guerra dei Balcani all’inizio degli anni ’90. In questa occasione, conosciamo Harlan, un reietto e alcolizzato, tormentato da incubi che si aggira fra le campagne fingendo di essere un Dampyr, un essere metà umano e metà vampiro. Quando però degli autentici succhiasangue attaccano i soldati, il nostro si renderà conto che non è pura fantasia: lui è davvero un Dampyr!

A dirigere il film è stato chiamato Riccardo Chemello, esordiente che viene dalla pubblicità, mentre la sceneggiatura porta le firme di Giovanni Masi, Alberto Ostini e Mauro Uzzeo. I produttori sono Roberto Proia per Eagle Pictures, Vincenzo Sarno per Sergio Bonelli Editore, e Andrea Sgaravatti per Brandon Box. Nella crew, invece, troviamo il premio Oscar Giorgio Gregorini (Suicide Squad) come truccatore, Vladimir Furdik (Skyfall) come coreografo delle scene d’azione, Lubomik Misak (Il Trono di Spade) come coordinatore degli stunt, e Giovanni Castelnuovo (Wanted) come costumista.

Le riprese sono in svolgimento in Romania, e proseguiranno per 11 settimane.

"Arriva il Dampyr", di #RobertoRecchioni #GiulioAntonioGualtieri #Danielebigliardo #DylanDog "La terminologia, spesso, ha più importanza del contenuto che rappresenta. In alcuni casi, si discute così tanto sulle accezioni di una parola che si perde la centralità dell’argomento. Crossover, è diventata – nell’ambito fumettistico – la perfetta rappresentazione di una categorie di storie in cui due personaggi (solitamente pubblicati entrambi dalla stessa casa editrice) s’incontrano tra le pagine, prima su una testata, poi sull’altra. Fine. Semplice, e non cervellotico come è percepito da molti. In realtà, tutto questo movimento contestatorio sulla corretta definizione di un termine è davvero superflua, soprattutto quando ci troviamo a leggere una storia come Arriva il Dampyr, in cui Dylan Dog e Harlan Draka – Dampyr, appunto – s’incontrano per la prima volta. L’annuncio di quest’evento speciale era stato fatto già un paio d’anni fa, e nel corso del tempo ho tentato d’immaginare quale sarebbe stato l’approccio utilizzato dagli sceneggiatori per rendere al meglio l’incontro di due mondi nettamente diversi tra loro. Romantico? No. Intimista? No. In una storia con vampiri e relativi cacciatori, poteva prevalere soltanto l’azione. Quella a metà strada tra Blade, Buffy e James Bond, come dice anche Dylan all’interno della storia. Sin dalle prime pagine di Arriva il Dampyr, si ha la sensazione di essere saliti su una moto, e di essere partiti a tutta velocità, dritti fino alla meta. Il ritmo della prima parte della storia è esattamente ciò che ha ridato linfa vitale a Dylan negli ultimi anni. Non c’è spazio per noiose introduzioni, o ripetitivi stilemi stra-abusati.
