Chapter 94 - Their first family fun time
[Manga spoiler alert]
I know, I know, before that, we have the penguin chapter, the doggy crisis arc, the cruise arc, and there's even Loid taking Anya and Bond to the park to meet with the Handler play with Aaron chapter.
Ch. 94 is the first time no one is disturbed or distracted by their work/mission. They were there to have fun, and they had fun.
And that INCLUDES Loid, who is unusually smiley the whole time. He told himself not to think about the tonitrus bolt, and just had fun with his family - it's almost the first time we see him enjoying himself.
He went from this
Tumblr media
to this without mentioning his mission the whole chapter
Tumblr media
And Yor had fun too. Even at times she still panicked, she actually had a lot of character development.
Ch.35
Tumblr media
Ch.79
Tumblr media
Ch.94
Tumblr media
And this panel when she calmed down and came back to her family <3
Tumblr media
And of course there's Bond, who didn't even know how to have fun when he first became a Forger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course Anya had fun.
Tumblr media
But her sense of waku waku might be hinting towards something more dangerous which I have already discussed here.
I adore Ch.94 because of that. Every time after Anya gets her results at school, Endo tries to update us how far the family has gone from the beginning. It happened after Anya had her first exams - that Loid had a conversation with Donovan, and that two chapters, to me, sounded like a report card for Loid as a dad.
Maybe the next family fun time would come after Anya has her next exams. Or maybe it would come because of Plan C. Either way, the Forgers having fun is the most waku waku thing ever.

Guy Needs A Nap -- Short Writing
I finished my last class of the morning section with a sigh of relief. The stress was palpable now that exam season was around the corner. I dropped my books onto my desk and loosened the top two buttons of my blouse for some comfort. I had an hour before my next class started, enough time to breathe, feed my familiar, and practice a few spells. I set to filling Robin's bowl with milk from the refectory and left some tuna on a plate for him. Just as I was about to open my textbook, there was a sharp knock at the door. I opened it to see Jasper, Guy's handler, standing there with his brow furrowed.
"Um… hi. What can I do for you, Jasper?" I ask with caution. I've never seen Jasper distressed like this before.
"Would you mind giving me a hand with Master Guy? He is… shall I say restless."
I blinked with surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it wasn't that.
"Sure. Just lead the way."
I follow Jasper up to the S-Rank dorms, a familiar route to Guy's room. He opens the door cordially and lets me inside.
"Master Guy is in his room." He gestures to the closed door to my right. I nod before heading over, I can hear footsteps pacing on the other side. I knock gently on the wood.
"Guy?" I call earnestly. The pacing stops and there is a moment of silence when I believe he will simply ignore me. He doesn't. The knob turns and the door opens to reveal Guy standing there in his casual attire. His shirt is half unbuttoned, his hair is jostled, his eyes have dark circles underneath them. He looked so unlike the stern, neat, commanding prince that I had come to love. My face softened.
"Guy… what's wrong?" I ask gently.
"Nothing. Dismiss yourself." He turned away and ran a hand through his hair roughly.
"So, that's how his hair got so messy," I think to myself.
"If I was in the same state, you wouldn't leave," I respond sternly, but not aggressively. He was stubborn, but not close to my level. If stubbornness was a class, I would be S-Rank.
Guy looks at me, but doesn't say anything. He doesn't need to; it's enough of an invitation for me. I close the door behind me as I enter his bedroom. I approach him and examine him with my eyes before reaching up to cup his cheek gently. Much to my surprise, he leans in to my hand.
"Guy, please, tell me what's wrong. When was the last time you've slept? Or eaten?"
"Couple days." He mumbles the response so quietly that I barely heard it. I furrow my brows with worry.
"Why?" I try to understand what's got him in so out of character. He doesn't respond, of course. I will have to pry the answer out of him, or figure it out through investigation.
I accept that our conversation has ended and pull him towards the bed.
"What are you doing?" He doesn't fight me, but he looks displeased.
"You need rest. If you won't do it on your own, then I'll force you," I respond matter-of-factly. He frowns, but doesn't stop me from easing him down onto the bed with me. I propped myself up slightly on some pillows and rested his head against my stomach. I carded my fingers through his slightly tangled, but silky, hair and hummed some tune I remembered from the radio. Guy acted displeased, but his exhaustion won and he began to relax. His eyelids drooped and he fell asleep.
Sure, I missed the rest of my classes that day, but I could think up some excuse.  Magical food poisoning or whatnot. What mattered at the moment was Guy's soft, calm face as he slept with his head in my lap. I've never seen a sweeter sight.
Bonus: Jasper's PoV
I knock lightly on the bedroom door with a tray of food and tea, no red coffee for Master Guy today. Hearing no response, I opened it and let out a small hum of surprise when I found Master Guy and his potential paramour asleep. The prince was lying curled up against her like a cat, his head in her lap. Meanwhile the young lady was comfortably snoozing with her back against the headboard in a half-seated position, her hand settled in Master Guy's hair. I quietly closed the door and set the tray in the sitting room, assuring that I wouldn't disturb their wholesome slumber.

The need for food safety originated because of the highly unregulated market, which cause a high number of cases in foodborne illnesses and food recalls. The concern still persists even in current times, with a far more regulated industry that is gaining traction globally. The rising concerns about contamination of food with pathogens and other detrimental elements, has led to a constant need and evolution of the food safety tests at different levels. Also, global concerns and ongoing incidences regarding genetically modified foods, chemical residues, and other similar issues in foods, had a major impact on the policy-making process in different countries.
The globalization in the food industry is the major challenge in the food safety testing market. Different regional regulations and oversight between countries could result in supply chain uncertainty and will also affect the food safety testing industry.

Who was the other mech watching Prowl's place?
Prowl watched from the window and watched the black car drive away. Though it could have been nothing to do with him, he doubted it. He hid the dataslug in his subspace. It seemed likely that the safe house was being monitored. As he looked from the window, Prowl identified three likely surveillance bots. Would Flatfoot come for him, or would he summon Prowl? Whichever it proved to be Prowl thought it was unlikely that he would just be left be. His cover, as it had been, was blown. He could not return to the club. Even if his next heat was six quartexes away, provided he had not kindled, if Jazz spotted him he would surely usher him out. The club was for Alphas and Betas only.
As he waited Prowl wondered how he might escape the surveillance bots. He needed to get to his hotel, to get his suppressants and to take back some control. Prowl shivered everything had spiralled well out of his control. It seemed on the surface that his best bet would be to return to Praxus but he suspected Flatfoot would report his duplicity to his commanders. Flatfoot had all the cards. That mech was a scheming worm; he would not play them carelessly.
“Enforcers open up!” Someone hammered on the door and Prowl jerked back with surprise. He had not seen anyone come down the street, unless they had come down an alley. Prowl was intensely irritated. Flatfoot could have commed him, or sent handlers to knock... politely.
Prowl opened the door, the nanoklik he did, the enforcers slammed him against the wall and put stasis cuffs on him. He was shocked. This was not what he had expected to happen. Maybe he should have taken a transport to his hotel, cover be damned, as if that would not have been monitored as well. He was afraid and he hated it. Prowl did not resist the enforcers. They loomed over him, an intimidation tactic he knew alphas used to put recalcitrant omegas in their place. He did not bow to them.
He was loaded onto a transport and taken to the precinct. Wearing his disguise, there was nothing especially peculiar about him being unloaded from the enforcer transport. Had he been in his traditional armour, with his enforcer insignia on display, it would have attracted attention. Not that the attention would have helped Prowl. Battle computer revving as he tried to find some way out of this mess, Prowl kept his helm down. The enforcers shoved him into an interrogation room and left there to stew. He was not made to stew long. Flatfoot appeared with members of the paramilitary enforcer unit. Prowl did not shrink when the Praefectus of Iacon’s enforcers looked him up and down, trying, no doubt, to find some sight of what Prowl had been hiding for vorns.
“Strip him,” Flatfoot ordered. Prowl jerked back but there was nothing he could do to stop the other enforcers from peeling every last shred of armour from Prowl’s frame. The alphas leered over him, scenting and Prowl was suddenly terrified. He did not shrink. He refused to be meek. “Bring the medic in.”
“Hmmf,” one of the enforcers grumbled and the goons stalked away. The door slid open and shut and Prowl was left alone with his commander.
“You left your post,” Flatfoot said as he circled Prowl, taking in every corner of the frame Prowl had hidden well. He grabbed Prowl’s left well by his nozzle and lifted the heavy component and stared at the trail of bitemarks and discoloured dents.
“Get your servos off of me,” Prowl said. He may have been an omega but Flatfoot did not have some intrinsic right to touch him. “He was done with me. He sent me home.”
“What?” Flatfoot scowled. “Why didn’t you present? No pink energoned alpha is going to turn up a wet hole.”
“He was bored of me,” Prowl ground out. It may not even been a lie. He had not acted like he had any possessed any lingering interest in Prowl. Jazz had neither taken his spark nor bitten a claim into his neck. “As you can see, he did not claim me.”
“Hmmf,” Flatfoot snorted. The door opened and a reedy mech with medic insignias stepped in. “The omega just came out of a heat. I need you to do a pull exam, Oil Slick.”
“Get zim on the table,” the medic said in an odd accent. “Cuff hiz legz to ze legz.”
“No!” Prowl snapped. Flatfoot’s goons lifted Prowl up as he thrashed. His struggles hardly hampered them as they secured his arms above his helm to the desk. They circled around him and Prowl kicked the first in the face. The crunch was satisfying. “I do not consent to any exam.”
“Since you are an enforcer under my command, I claim protection over you since you have no kin in Iacon do take responsibility. Get him secured. Primus damned fools.”
In precious little time, Prowl found himself restrained with his ankles each cuffed to a different table leg. Oil Slick sat between his tense thighs. Flatfoot stood behind him, looking at Prowl’s bared array. He had never been more mortified in his life. Prowl clenched his denta to keep from grunting or whining as the medic first did an external exam and then inserted a speculum to do an internal.  It was intensely violating, more violating that Crosscut, more of the same? He stared up at the ceiling and refused to react as Oil Slick inserted a scope and propped his internal node and biolights. When he widened the speculum, Prowl winced at the uncompromising stretch.
“Ya can zee the valve haz a second degree ptosis,” Oil Slick explained as he tugged Prowl’s valve lips as they drooped. “There’s no straining of the internal calipers to widen with the speculum fully extended. That suggests the alpha in question haz a large knot and used it often.”
“No damage?” Flatfoot asked.
“Of course not!” Oil Slick said. “Omegas in heat are made to take knot. The gestation tank was penetrated. Some transfluids are leaking out the dock, the seal will take an orn or more to reform. Still, the tank is nearly at capacity. I’ll take samples.”
“Stop!” Prowl ordered.
The alphas ignored him as Oil Slick inserted a long swab in into Prowl’s valve and took a sample of a the leaking transfluid. He took more samples, of Prowl internal lubrication, before he pushed a swab through Prowl’s dock to collect samples from the transfluid being processed in there. Oil Slick pressed down on Prowl’s lower belly and Prowl groaned as he forced transfluids to escape from his internal dock. They leaked from his valve and made a puddle under his aft.
“The transfluids have already been largely processed of their energy,” Oil Slick observed as he studied the fluids. “I will exam ze spark.”
“No!” Prowl shouted. “Stop touching me. I do not consent.”
“Quiet,” Flatfoot ordered.
Oil Slick forced a diagnostic cable into Prowl’s neck and forced his spark chamber to spiral open. The invasions would not end and Prowl bit his lower lip to keep from sobbing as the medic touched his spark. This was a living memory purge. He could do nothing, his glyphs meant nothing. After his physical exam of Prowl’s spark, Oil Slick brought out probes and took samples of Prowl’s spark energies.  Prowl’s cheekplates felt wet, he realized his was crying silently.
“Zee spark is bloated,” Oil Slick said. “Expected from an active heat. There’s no signs of spark merging but the alpha did manage to kindle a protospark in him.”
“I need a baffle!” Prowl exclaimed.
“Absolutely not,” Flatfoot said. “The Maestro won’t allow a mech gravid with his creation rust in the streets. He may have bored him but he’ll want to claim his progeny, it’s an alpha’s instinct after all.”
“I am not going back there,” Prowl said. “I am not going to prostitute myself for your investigation. I am not a whore.”
“You will,” Flatfoot replied. “You’re going to get me what I need to get that botnapper in a cell. I don’t care if you have to suck his spike to earn your energon, or if he passes your afthole around to his regulars. You’re going to get me what I need. In return, when the investigation is complete you’ll return to Praxus, with no one the wiser of your deceit.”
“What?”
“You scratch my back,  I scratch yours,” Flatfoot said. “You don’t want your illustrious career in Praxus ruined, do you?”
“No.”
“Then you’ll get me what I want.”

He Could Scream: Kauri
CW: Electric shock treatment, lab whump dehumanization, pet whump, referenced past dubcon/noncon, referenced drugging, abusive relationship (from abused person’s POV)
Immediately follows The Surgery
Tagging: @maybeawhumpblog, @pepperonyscience, @haro-whumps, @burtlederp, @18-toe-beans, @finder-of-rings, @whump-chains, @giggly-evil-puppy, @whimpers-and-whumpers @whump-it, @lumpofwhump, @pumpkinthefangirl
“Okay, little man,” Tyler says, a bright, pleased smile on his face. He isn’t wearing his long white coat, today, just a simple button-up shirt with a starched collar and nice dress pants. There’s a little ID card hanging on a metal clip off his shirt pocket, a tiny little rectangular photo of Tyler smiling bright and cheerful against a plain blue background.
The smile is always the same.
Kauri spent four days in the recovery room - he could track days in there, the nurse named Bobbie checked on him five times every day every few hours, and Kauri had grasped onto that much control and information and held tight - and then it was back to the same place, white walls and 162 white tiles. Irregular feedings,
Except in moments like this one, when they bring him out to test the product.
“Hey.” Fingers snap just under his nose and Kauri jumps, blinking rapidly, pulled from his thoughts. “Hey, bud, you need to pay attention.”
Kauri stares at him with red-rimmed eyes, feeling emptied out, like a cup full of water that they had poured and poured - and still they searched for one more drop. After a second, he slowly nods. “I’m, I’m paying attention, sir,” He says softly, sitting on the examination table feeling the little paper crackle underneath him as he shifts around.
“Hey, I’m not a handler, man. You can just call me Tyler.”
“Um…”
Tyler smiles at him expectantly, and Kauri still fights the urge to smile back automatically. Tyler is always smiling - sometimes bright and cheerful and proud like now, sometimes nervous and like he’s hiding fear, sometimes a smile that is blank and empty when the Director comes to see how the tests are going.
When the Director comes, she puts on those blue gloves and touches the red, irritated healing skin around the new things they’ve put into him. Sometimes she pushes hard into the stitches and nearly breaks them, and he sees Del wincing just behind her, but no one says a word to the Director.
When he cries out, she presses harder. If Kauri takes all her pressing and prodding without a flinch, she pulls back and praises him.
He is starting to hate the words good boy.
“Try it for me,” Tyler encourages him, soothingly. He puts a hand on either side of Kauri’s face and shakes his head a little, back and forth. “Come on, kiddo.”
“... Okay,” Kauri says, finally, wanting to cringe back and away but he can’t. “Um. Tyler.”
“Good, great. I know this part’s not much fun, ‘898, I get it, but you’ve done so well up until now.” Tyler ruffles his hair and Kauri’s eyes flutter closed involuntarily - it feels good, he can’t help it. He doesn’t want the touch to feel good, but it does.
Because of them. It’s because of people like Tyler - because people like Tyler used other people like me, a long time ago, to find out how to make us different people than we used to be. They took all those things they learned and put them into me, to make me like this.
Tyler’s wide bright smile, flashing teeth, his long hair pulled back in its usual bun against the nape of his neck, the way he’s rubbing his hands together - it’s all a blur of things Kauri can’t quite focus on. His shoulders keep jumping, jerking him forwards without his consent. Fingers twitch and when they try to have him hold a pen it just drops, again and again and again.
When he was trained the first time, they trained him to be scared of holding pens - his hands shook when he tried, he couldn’t get a good grip.
It’s worse now.
Kauri wonders if the shaking will ever fully stop.
“We’re going to take things nice and slow today. This is all going on record for the Director, so you really need to work hard for me. Got it?” Tyler tilts his chin up and Kauri blinks at him, nodding slowly, his eyes skimming to the camera fixed in the corner near the ceiling, the big black circle that hangs down from the ceiling tiles. Staring, staring, staring.
They will tape his screaming. People like Tyler will study it. And then they’ll do it to someone else, too - some other Box Boy - over and over and over again-
Stop thinking. Get through this and go home. Once they’re done with tests, Owen will take you home, you’ll go home.
Thinking of Owen brings new pain, different pain - a twist inside him because going home isn’t any better, is it? If he goes home, Owen will have the little button they push to hurt him. Owen, who put his hands on his neck and pushed him onto his stomach on the floor next to the couch… he’ll have a new way to hurt him when he’s angry, and he had promised to never, ever hurt him like this.
Kauri swallows back the noise he wants to make, low and broken.
“Okay.” Tyler turns back to look up at the camera, holding up one hand to count down from five. Kauri watches, feeling dull and far away from himself.
Five… four… three… two… one…
“Disciplinary implant with electrical output,” Tyler says to the camera, his voice dropping from its usual good cheer to serious, and Kauri stares at the neatly twisted bun of hair on the back of his neck. “This is subject eight to receive the implants and the first to show success afterward. Subject is number Six-Four-Five-Eight-Nine-Eight, known by owner as Kauri, spelled K-A-U-R-I.” Tyler glances back at him. “Remind me to tell your owner sometime that ‘kauri’ is actually a whole word with a pronunciation, and what he calls you ain’t it.”
Kauri doesn’t say anything - just drops his eyes down to the ground - and after a beat, Tyler shrugs and turns back to the camera.
“Guess the owner’s never spent time ‘Down Undah’,” Tyler says with a cheerful, absolutely awful accent that Kauri doesn’t recognize and can’t place. Then he pauses. “Wait. Is New Zealand still Down Under? Shit. Aren’t those two places close to each other? I feel like… Australia’s probably pretty close… oh shit, I have no fucking clue what distance is like over there. Huh. I probably should have paid more attention in, like, geography or whatever. I’m guessing watching that show with the hot mermaids doesn’t count as studying New Zealand…” His voice trails off. Then snaps back up at the camera. “Well, shit, that’s a bad take. Okay. One more time.” Tyler sighs, holds up five fingers to the camera, starts counting again.
Kauri wonders exactly how Tyler became a scientist - or if he’s really something else entirely, and they put a white coat on him and called him a scientist to hide what he really is, what he really does, in his work on Kauri and the others like him.
Five… four… three… two… one…
“Disciplinary implant with electrical output,” Tyler repeats, in the same serious, professional voice, and Kauri doesn’t move - doesn’t even swing his legs - he just stares down at the floor and waits for his little speech to finish, for the pain to start again.
“We’ve been working with this subject during post-op and currently to set the parameters of the implant as per the owner’s instructions,” Tyler says, moving back to stand right next to where Kauri sits on the examination table even as he pitches his voice for the camera in the ceiling, giving it the occasional glance with his head slightly tilted. Angled, Kauri thinks - he wants to look good on the camera.
“Main parameter is successfully set. Example #1 is prepared. 645898, please give your attention to the board on the wall.”
Kauri tenses, blue eyes flaring just a little.
He hates this test.
“Come on, little man,” Tyler says softly, encouragingly, and puts a hand on Kauri’s back, rubbing soothing circles that make his skin crawl and wish for more all at once. “You can do this for us, okay? Just be really good for me. I really need this promotion.”
I really need you to have not torn my skin open and made me watch you do it, but here we are.
The wall is crumbling inside Kauri’s mind, and he doesn’t even try to put the pieces back in any longer. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if he remembers things, if he gets angry inside, if Owen notices. He’s controlled, now. Owen will make sure he can’t read, or send a message, ever… ever again.
They don’t even care enough to erase it all any longer, because they don’t have to. He can be angry all he wants - he’ll still be helpless.
Tyler’s hand slides up to the back of his neck, lays heavy there and clammy. His thumb presses into the side of Kauri’s neck and Kauri shudders and raises his eyes.
“Good boy, ‘898,” Tyler murmurs, and Kauri bites down on his lower lip until it hurts.
There’s a large white dry-erase board with black letters written on it hung on the wall opposite from the exam table Kauri is sitting on. When they’d brought him in here, Tyler and Delevigne had talked about how the computer had chosen randomized words based on Kauri’s life before.
What was my life before? Why does a computer get to know and I don’t?
Kauri’s eyes land on the whiteboard, try briefly to focus on METAPHOR in Tyler’s thick scrawl. As soon as the black marks coalesced into a word, the fire lit his nerves again.
Kauri jerked forwards, crying out helplessly - it never mattered how many times they practiced, he always cried out - and Tyler’s hand tightened on the back of his neck, pulling him back.
Kauri went rigid, tears in his eyes. “Pl-please,” He breathes, in the stammer, the shock-speech the handlers call it and laugh at him. “Please, m-make it, make it st-stop, Tyler, please-”
“Look away from the word, buddy,” Tyler says, unperturbed, watching Kauri’s face. “That’s all you have to do, is drop your eyes.”
Kauri tries but he can’t, every muscle is locked against the electricity. His whimpers become choked-off sobs as tears flood his eyes, until finally the words blur enough to be unrecognizable.
The pain stops, and Kauri can finally lower his eyes. He tries to breathe through the aftershocks, curling his hands into fists to keep them from twitching and shaking too much. Tyler’s hand never leaves his neck, presses against it like a weight.
“Subject is exposed to shock as soon as focus on words is registered,” Tyler says to the camera, and the smile is hinting at the corners of his mouth again. “Subject shows marked reluctance to engage with text even when given a direct order, as the subject is aware of the consequences if he does so. We’ll do one more, 645898.”
Kauri jerks in a breath and nods quickly, feeling his curls starting to stick to the cold sweat that’s broken out across his body, the way his thin white trainee T-shirt sticks to the sweat on his back. The recirculated air washes across his arms, his bare legs and feet, and he starts to shiver. He can hardly tell the difference between the shivers from cold and the muscle shakes from the electric shock.
The little circles - the shock implants - feel hot, like when he would sit on Owen’s balcony in the sunlight too long and the warmth of the sun turned to an uncomfortable, prickling burn. When he looks down, he can just see them, glowing slightly at the bottom of his vision. Can see the stitches, the skin around them red and irritated, that travel in a perfect line from his right shoulder to the center of his chest.
Tyler steps away from him and walks across the room. Kauri keeps his head down and watches from under his dark eyelashes as the word Tyler had written is erased with the little black eraser. Tyler checks a card he pulls from his pocket and writes something new. Kauri drops his eyes so he won’t look at the word a single second longer than he has to - aware, with a twist of disgusted fear inside of him, that that’s the response he’s supposed to have.
The headaches come and go, as memories break free or sink back under the fog in his head, but they don’t care about the memories anymore.
They don’t care what he knows.
Because they know that Kauri is controlled.
“Shit, she’s gonna be so happy,” Tyler murmurs as he goes back to Kauri’s side. “She wanted us to make sure her poor sad sack kid can do this without a memory wipe, and we’re gonna give her a fucking work of art, little man. Okay. Look up.”
They put the implants under his skin.
They record the pain he feels.
They record when he screams.
They will use it to hurt someone after him.
And Tyler will be rewarded for it.
Kauri swallows hard. Tyler slides an arm around his shoulder, leans in close, and takes him by the chin. His sweaty fingers tilt Kauri’s chin up and up and up.
“I said look up, bud,” Tyler says, more forcefully this time.
Kauri’s eyes land on HERO’S JOURNEY but don’t take in that the individual letters even form words before the burn lights him up again and he starts to shake.
His eyes locked with the pain like every other part of him, and when he sees the words all Kauri can do is wail, half-choked as his muscles are forced into rigidity, a pressure that seems like it might snap bones. He can’t stop looking, he can’t stop, and it won’t stop hurting until he stops looking.
Finally Tyler grabs him by the hair and pushes down, forces his gaze back down to the floor to break his eye contact with the letters. Kauri sobs, tears sliding down his cheeks as he shakes and shakes in Tyler’s arms. His hands won’t close, the fingers keep moving, twitching, jerking little nonsense movements he can’t control.
“Success,” Tyler says loudly, happily, for the camera. Then he pets through Kauri’s hair, holding him close. Kauri leans against him automatically, eyes blank and unfocused, sobbing hoarsely through a throat that aches from screaming. “End recording. There we go, buddy, there we go. All done for now. All done, little man, all done… there we go, just let it out, there you go… God, I am so grateful for you. You're so lucky, man, we're going to be written into those fucking brochures now, you and me… you’ve done so well and the Director is gonna give me one fuck of a bonus for this, you’ve been so, so good for me, little man, so good…”
Tyler’s fingers card through black curls, scratch just a little into his scalp, run down his neck and then back up again, and Kauri shudders against something new - not the simple I-want-this he has to every touch, but the old disgust he used to feel, used to be able to access. He doesn’t want Tyler to touch him, he doesn’t want to be his very good boy and help him design something terrible to do to someone else, he doesn’t want he doesn’t want he doesn’t want.
He keeps crying, but the tears begin to change. He can feel the sick lurch in his stomach, the way his mouth wanted to pull his lips back into a snarl. He can feel the fight he’d had, a long time ago, before it was all gone. The version of him that had said you can’t take my name from me - but they did… they took his name and they took the fight, too.
They didn’t care if he remembered, any longer. Owen didn’t care what he felt - that he might feel hurt Owen broke his promise, that he might be angry about it. Owen didn’t care.
All Owen cared about was that Kauri could be controlled.
Punished. Disciplined, for thinking for himself. For having a thought Owen wasn’t in charge of. For doing one single thing just for himself.
Why didn’t you just tie me to the bed?
Kauri sniffled, and Tyler misunderstood the reason, tightening his arms around him, shushing him in a low soft sincere voice. He thought Kauri was sad - and he was - but the tears weren’t from sadness.
The tears were from anger.
“Take your time,” Tyler whispers into his ear, petting him gently. “Take your time, ‘898. Just breathe, little guy, you’re doing great. We’re going to bring in the computer next, okay?”
Kauri shivers, clenching his eyes shut, feeling a ghost of electricity just thinking about looking at the keyboard again. And they’ll make him - make him look, make him try to type, try to read, and they’ll hurt him every time he does.
Because he can’t be allowed to read or write, or think for himself, or think at all. Because he has to be locked up, closed up in Owen’s condo, kept like the cat the neighbors owned next door. Because he has to be empty, and pretty.
Because Owen is jealous of every thought Kauri has that isn’t about him.
“I know it sucks, little dude, I totally get it,” Tyler says, and Kauri wants to spit no you don’t, you don’t understand anything about me, but all he does is miserably nod, allow himself to be held, try to ignore the way his body wants to react even now, even to this, the way it was trained to. “I know. But look - once the Director is happy with the recordings, we’ll get you back home, and your owner will be so happy to see you, right? Because you’ll be totally perfect for him, exactly how he wants you now.”
Why don’t I get to choose how I want me to be? What did I do to deserve having that choice taken away? Why won’t you let me be a person anymore?
Why can’t Owen just love me back?
Kauri cries in the arms of a scientist who will not stop hurting him and he’s so hurt, and scared, and sad, and mostly he’s so angry he could scream.

I so need to quit putting myself down. I am not lazy, untalented, or unskilled. I did very well in my grocery store job. I have a food handlers certification (got a high score on the exam on my first try as well). My brief stint in the prison that is online community college rekindled my love for writing. I've taught my crystal correspondences, and I'm learning how to read tarot cards. I even completed a music course on skillshare. All within the past year!

The Problems With Service Dogs, the ADA, and PTSD
Tumblr media
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may be a comprehensive civil rights law that protects people with disabilities. it had been signed into law in 1990 and its provisions were expanded under the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. In 2010, the Department of Justice released a revised set of regulations for service dogs with reference to title II (state and native government services) and title III (public accommodations and commercial facilities) of the ADA.
These regulations address the rights of service dog handlers in most public spaces.1 There are certain other laws that are applicable in specific situations, like the Air Carrier Access Act of 1986; the Fair Housing Act; and therefore the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (which, in part, addresses service dog handler access to any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance). However, the ADA is the law that governs most public interactions with service dog teams. “Service Animals” Defined Specifically, the ADA currently defines service animals as “dogs that are individually trained to try to work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.”1 (In certain circumstances miniature horses also are considered service animals but that’s beyond the scope of this text .) this is often the ADA definition of a service dog in its entirety. Mislabeling of Psychiatric Service Dogs for PTSD The ADA goes on to supply samples of tasks that a service dog can perform, including “calming an individual with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during an attack .” And yet, service dogs for people with PTSD are often mislabeled as “emotional support animals” (ESAs), which aren’t covered by the ADA. The ADA expressly distinguishes between the 2 sorts of dogs, noting that ESAs only provide comfort or emotional support, whereas service dogs are specifically trained to perform disability-mitigating tasks. While the general public has become familiar with seeing service dogs assist people with visual impairments, there remains much ignorance when it involves service dogs that assist people with other disabilities, especially those with “invisible” health issues—including PTSD. What Is a PTSD Psychiatric Service Dog? PTSD service dogs are a kind of psychiatric service dog. Psychiatric service dogs are as legitimate as the other sort of service dog, like a mobility assistance dog, seizure alert dog, or “seeing eye” dog. PTSD service dogs are often trained to perform any number of disability-mitigating tasks, including:2 Retrieving medication Turning on lights and awakening their handler if he or she has an evening terror Searching the house to alleviate symptoms of hypervigilance Guiding their handler home during a dissociative episode Initiating tactile intervention when a handler experiences sensory overload Grounding their handler during a flashback This list is merely a stratified sample, as each person’s experience with PTSD is different and thus each service dog’s responsibilities are unique. Understanding State and Federal Laws for Service Dogs Regardless of what specific tasks a service dog performs, once it can reliably perform a minimum of one disability-mitigating task, it’s considered a service dog, and therefore the provisions of the ADA apply and wish to be enforced. Any state or local law that attempts to countermand, or make more restrictive, any provision of the ADA is actually unenforceable because when a state or local laws don’t align with federal law, federal law takes priority. However, state cops are only charged with enforcing state, not federal, laws. Therefore, if an institution refuses a service dog team entry, and therefore the situation isn’t covered by existing state laws, the sole recourse available is to file a complaint with the US Department of Justice, or file a suit in court. If there are state laws in situ to guard the rights of service dog teams, it’s possible that the worker or establishment has actually committed a misdemeanor and may be fined. this is often why knowing applicable state laws, also because the ADA, is imperative. Limitations Regarding Service Dogs in Training Service dogs in training (SDITs) aren’t covered by federal law, but many nations mandate that SDITs are afforded equivalent protection as their fully trained counterparts. However, the laws sometimes only address specific disabilities, often excluding PTSD and other psychological conditions. Additionally, a number of those laws only cover service dogs trained by state-accredited organizations, not owner-trained service dogs (OTSDs). Where Might Service Dogs Be Precluded Under Federal Law? As per the ADA, service dogs are allowed to accompany their handlers into essentially any space that’s hospitable to the general public, including restaurants and grocery stores (even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises). Service dogs are even allowed into hospital exam rooms and patient rooms. The only exceptions to full public access would be areas that the dog’s presence would compromise the health and safety of others, like hospital operating rooms and burn units where a sterile field could be negatively impacted by the dog’s presence. Service dogs can also be excluded from certain areas under the “fundamental alteration” clause of the ADA, which states that if a modification “would fundamentally alter the character of the products, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations” provided by the business entity, the business doesn’t get to change its policies.3 For example, a consistently barking dog would fundamentally alter the services provided by movies or hall. At that time, an employee may ask that the dog is removed. However, an employee might not preemptively bar entry to a service dog team supported the priority that the dog might bark. Service dogs can also be required to go away if they’re not housebroken, or if they’re “out of control” and therefore the owner has not effectively gained control of the animal. Fear, Allergies, “No Pets,” and Other Pet Limitations Neither fear of dogs nor allergies to dogs are acceptable reasons to bar a service dog team from an institution .1 within the case of a severe allergy and a shared space, accommodations must be made for both parties, separating the 2 the maximum amount as possible. The “no pets” signs in establishments don’t apply to service dogs as they’re not pets. Establishments might not cite the “right to refuse service” as an excuse to refuse access to service dog teams any longer than it could invoke it to refuse service to an individual supported race or gender, as people with disabilities are considered a protected class. What a Proprietor May—and May Not—Request From a Handler If proprietors are unsure if a dog may be a pet or a service dog, they’ll ask two very specific questions—and nothing else:1 Is the dog a service dog? What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff members are specifically prohibited from asking about the handler’s disability or demanding that the service dog perform any task it’s trained to try to to. The handler isn’t required to supply an exhaustive list of all tasks that the service dog can perform; naming one task is sufficient. Further, the ADA specifically states that employees cannot require “medical documentation,” “a special identification card,” or “training documentation.”1 meaning that a service dog doesn’t need a card, a tag issued by a state or agency, a vest or the other visibly identifying paraphernalia to be allowed access. Requiring any of those items is inconsistent with the ADA. Is Equipment Required for Protected Use of a Service Dog? The only equipment that’s mentioned within the ADA may be a leash, harness, or tether. And even that’s dependent upon the handler’s specific needs. If a leash, harness, or tether interferes with the service dog’s ability to perform its tasks, a handler can control the dog through the utilization of voice or hand signals or other appropriate methods. Responsibilities of Operators and repair Dog Handlers While service dog handlers may anticipate encountering workers who are unacquainted with the provisions of the ADA, ignorance of the law isn’t an excuse for discrimination. Service dog handlers have a responsibility to stay control of their well-behaved service dog; those that operate public accommodations have a responsibility to understand the laws regarding service dog teams and to allow them access as outlined within the ADA.

Apparently, Beautiful, and Best Friend: Very sweet, shy, tender hearted brindle boy in need of a soft voice and a quiet, structured home where he can feel safe, loved, and thrive. TIMON OLUNTEEP Id 67422, 4 Yrs., 38 petite lbs., Dreaming of a family of his own, at Manhattan ACc TO BE KILLED 8/27/19 From Shy to Social, Smiley Boy Timon Wants to find His Forever Home! ~ Timon is a tiny little guy with big bat ears and a gentle heart, who craves a loving & quiet home and a family to love. He was found in the streets and brought to the shelter by police, a teeny, tiny petite little man of only 38 lbs who was frightened after his experience and only wanted to feel safe and loved. But the shelter is no place for sensitive souls with tender hearts, and a bravery deficit, so TIMON didn’t find the quiet, calm, “safe space” he had hoped for. He’s so incredibly adorable with his big bat ears, his white socks and his gorgeous tiger brindle coat. Add to that his big smile, or the way he sits so straight and tall, trying to project a courage he doesn’t feel as he tries to negotiate the Brooklyn Center. The volunteers do their best to give him comfort, always taking time to talk to him in a soft voice, snuggling with him on a bench, softly petting him and telling him not to worry – it will be ok. But it won’t be ok if no one picks this beautiful sweet boy. He needs an experienced foster or adopter who can give him the quiet space he will need to find his rudder. Can you help this little man out? Message our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting him now. A volunteer writes: Hakuna Matata is not Timon's moto but it could be if he gets to move in with you, as your forever best friend. Timon is a handsome lad whose face and moves light up as he distances himself from the care center. He strolls beautifully, does his business, sits on command and respects small critters and other dogs. I was surprised to see that the noises and crowding of the park did not bother him. He seemed to feel like home. Timon got lots of compliments from passerby's. He is a unique Boroughbred I said! Still everyone was trying to take a guess about his mix. Maybe you will too? Timon is shy but after a while spent with him, he will jump on a bench near his caretaker and accept caresses. There is love at first sight and love that comes with trust and time. Timon is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to be his carefree self, in your hands! Volunteer Evelyne Cumps writes: Timon (67422) is a lightweight (37lbs) brindley 4 year old neutered male, a very elegant, healthy stray that was very shy upon arrival but opened up amazingly. He truly is a favorite of all here at the care center but for some reason has not caught the attention of the public. may be because he is such a quite mouse in his kennel. He is one pretty dog who could have some BT up his family tree. He was so shy in PG but now, he plays nicely with males and females in PG. he is a great walker, goes to the park, is fine with all its activities and noises, nears other pooches politely, sits, comes when called and is likely HT. His behavioral eval is level 3 as he was scared (although NEVER) aggressive upon arrival and for days. Staff, behav staff and vols have been working daily with him and Timon has really bloomed. He is waiting for his Pumba at the Manhattan Care Center! Obtain Your Texas Food Handlers Card Online
A food handler’s card is a certificate, card, or permit that is used as official documentation to show to health inspectors that you have completed a food safety course that is approved by your state and county, and that you understand the basics of food safety. In almost every profession which requires the handling of food, workers are required to obtain their Texas food handlers card also called a food handler's license--within thirty days of their first day on the job. You might scoff at this, thinking it is exclusively for employees at the local fast food joint, but Texas food handlers cards are also required in catering and some food science-related fields.
Tumblr media
First, you should consider that some states like Texas have made it possible to prepare for and take the required exam online. Once you pass, you can even print out the necessary copies of the card. Go online and retrieve a copy of the Texas food handlers manual; study it carefully and familiarize yourself with terms, regulations, safety procedures, and cleaning standards. Take all the time you need but there is no set time limit. Once you are familiar with the content of this manual, you will want to rigorously study the choking manual. It may initially sound peculiar, but the choking manual will teach you the basic first aid procedures for handling situations in which adults, children, and infants are choking. This is definitely a necessity in any food-handling industry.
When you feel confident enough with this information, you need to proceed with online registration, which will ask you some basic questions, just like any others you would be asked during other registration processes. Then get comfortable and take the exam! Don't be afraid to take it slow and think things through before submitting answers. After you have passed the exam, you will need to pay a ten dollar fee through your credit or debit card. Once the payment has been received, you will be able to print your card. As mentioned earlier, you will need at least two copies of the card so that you have one to submit to your employer.
Employees without a Texas food handler’s card are able to work at their specifically assigned duties, provided a supervisor with a Texas food handler’s card is present and training them on their duties. All Texas food handler card training organizations are accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services, but its rules do not require training for a Texas food handler card to be done by an accredited training center. On the other hand, the food service manager must make sure they are properly trained to work in their assigned department.
