So... I have barely any weaving experience and never did double weaving, at all...
So the only logical thing to do, is to double wave a colorful warp, that I really have to concentrate on, with hand spun yarn, that I worked my ass of for... before my first nightshift... I'm Shure that'll work out fine
My two most recent spins! Both were braids from Apothefaery, the first being a fine merino in the colorway “gathering” and the second a fine wool/silk blend that I got at a wool market and did not have a name on the label. Pretty sure both of these are destined for my loom eventually
I fell into a pattern of simply filling up spindles over the last few months. So here’s the 100s of meters of thread that needs to be de-spindled, plyed, & finished.
As part of our work supporting endangered British sheep breeds we produce mini-skein kits so people can try out new types of wool without having to buy full skeins. We’ve been designing some patterns to go along with the kits too. These are our hat and fingerless mitts made from hand-spun endangered British wools.
as promised, kitty cat hair spinning! finally! feat. my pyjama leggies. (i turned the lights on for pictures but currently i’m spinning in low light w a thunderstorm outside. lovely lovely.)
i suspect i’m kind of over-spinning this, but I’m planning to ply it so that will take some of the twist back out, and i also Really want it to stay together. this little bit is part of my hand-carding experiment before we busted out the drum carder, but even with that it’s drafting a lot better than i remember it doing when i was just grooming it off the cat. so! we shall see…
I don't know which terms are widely used, so I included every one I was aware of. I know DK and Sport are technically different weights, but they are the closest two and I ran out of space, so.
Bonus if you include what you call that weight and where you're from !
Spinning was the aspect of my craft that really made everything click. For a long time, I owed that and more to tarot as it was a catalyst in itself... However. When I spin I feel my energy being drafted into my threads in a way that really hit home. I can't wait to find a use for her in my craft ~ ☆
At Christmas, a friend gave me their old wool sweater that needed some mending. I went to look for some matching Shetland wool and instead found some little hanks of roving. I picked up some colors I felt matched the original, as well as two dollar store dog brushes, and have been making little rolags all evening. I think I’m narrowing in on the color!
Spinning some merino on my new Mingo&Asho glasspin.
I taught myself to spin supported earlier this year. I found fleegle style spinning to be the most comfortable on my support spindles as its a kind of unsupported style which accommodates short or long draw.
Do you like watching my spinning videos? Should I do more of my spins?
(laceweight silkpaca 2ply! proper pics when she is Bathed. still got a bit of this left over that I will have to sort out too but… it’s gonna involve plying bracelets and all sorts. gross. :c )
My journey of spin to knit. Started spinning for the first time on a drop spindle, got a supported spindle and then a Turkish, learned how to use a blending board and made rolags, combined them all and made a 2 ply 75% merino 25%nylon dk ish yarn (lots of thick and thin). Knit up the my little secret crop from Jesse Mae designs! I also ran out of my original color towards the end and had to blend some of the new acquisitions to finish it out 😅
