Spinning some naturally dyed shetland. I dyed quite a few colors last summer and then @mimsiical gave me this blue (and the pink as well) which is shetland they naturally dyed.
I have a vague idea of spinning all of these into single color 2 ply skeins, then spinning the rest of the white shetland I have, and doing some sort of colorwork vest. But we'll see. For now I'm just having fun.

At Christmas, a friend gave me their old wool sweater that needed some mending. I went to look for some matching Shetland wool and instead found some little hanks of roving. I picked up some colors I felt matched the original, as well as two dollar store dog brushes, and have been making little rolags all evening. I think I’m narrowing in on the color!

Took my new handmade blending board & packing brush set (from Celestial Farms on Etsy) for a spin. All these rolags weighed in at 351 grams. The Splatoon-a-melon is merino, bio nylon, trilobal nylon, & rose fibre. The Aussie rolags are merino, superwash merino, trilobal nylon, & rose fibre.

I had some left over miscellanious fibre from my spinning class and decided to make some rolags to play around with later.

YO, I JUST MADE A ROLAG. 🕸🕸🕸🕸 So, the other day, I made a drop spindle from a wooden stop sign dowel thing I found at the dollar store, and I've been re-spinning this fibre. (I have this mess of leftover blue fibre from when I was making a brushed-yarn wig, and it was gonna get used as stuffing or something, it was basically useless, so I figure it would be good to practise on this before I actually buy loose fibre... but this is amazing...) and I was just taking clumps off the brushes and kind of hand-rolling it, and it's been annoying, but I saw a video of someone making a rolag with dowels and I dug around my room and found 2, and OMG. IT WORKED. And I'm so excited and definitely gonna keep going with this. The rolag organizes the fibers so much better. (I didn't realize you could make them without a blending board, which are expensive.) 🐺 To add some context. I was reading about different yarn types and found out that camel yarn is a thing, where they brush the fur off a shedding camel and use that. So I thought, of course, can you make yarn out of husky fur? Because I have a husky. And he sheds A LOT. And yes. It's a thing. A thing that I am 100% going to do. I already brushed him and started collecting the fur. I'm gonna keep brushing him all winter until I have enough. I'm gonna wash it, brush it, and spin it, and maybe dye it and make a bandana or something for him to wear and it's gonna be great. So that's what all this is about. Practise for my puppy. 🕸 But yeah, this has been wild, I had no idea it's so easy to make a drop spindle, I spent what, $1.25 on the wooden part and like $2 on the hook (pack of hooks) for the top. Less than an hour with the Dremel to make the sign rounded and smooth. Drop spindle. 🤯 #dropspindle #spindle #yarnspinning #rolag #fiberart #fibreart #diy #yarnaddict #yarn https://www.instagram.com/p/Clt8DJmP10h/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Carved this birch spindle a couple weeks ago and woodburned a tree design. Been spinning up some more moss yarn on it, mostly at work. This rolag is a mix of merino and mohair locks. About to chain ply it when I finish.

I'm in love.
I'd been watching this wheel for a few months. It kept getting re-listed and re-listed, and the price was excellent, but it was simply too far away. Coming back from GA the planets (and our route and timetable) magically aligned, so here it is!
It's still v dirty, so these serve as "before" pics, but once I started to look it over I realized it needed extremely little to get it functioning: a drive band, a footman connector, some oil. Still needs a flyer leather but runs fine on a bit of string. Insane.
It reminds me of a Swedish antique style with the double wheel supports, but I'm not sure I've ever seen them with screw adjustment? Which is extremely cool as it turns out, because it "locks" the uprights and prevents wobble, and also allows for a tiny bit of alignment adjustment. Oh, and the momentum on the drive wheel is nuts.
TLDR; new wheel go brrrr very fast and good, can't believe it sat unsold for months.

I recently bought some beautiful handcarders and I spent a few relaxing hours teaching myself how to card. It’s surprisingly easy & I carded up some spare fibre; white cormo, yak, & grey polwarth.

It's going to be a long time until I return to making skins if at all, between my health, classwork, and other hobbies that also demand use of my hands (which are complainy bastards) however i do have multiple skin ideas kicking around in my brain and i'll be real with you, most of them just come back to the fact that i am Very Gay and want to present my beloved with Shiny Gifts
