Korean BLs With GOOD Kisses

I’m on record for saying again and again that Korea is doomed to serve us up dead fish kisses.... and then 2022 happened.

I actually have in already down for my top trends of this year: “2022 the year Korea learned boys can kiss.” That said there have been a few in the past, and a recent DM chat made be decide to do this post about the times when Korea gave us good kiss.

Top 10 BL Kisses Out Of Korea (Despite Itself)

1. Semantic Error

The confession kiss. But honestly, all their kisses were excellent.

2. To My Star 1 & 2

The very last kiss in TMS1 is amazing, because it’s intentionally comparing itself to the reluctance of the dead fish kisses that came before, and as such it's intensity is used to showcase a narrative and character arc (in this case Ji Woo’s opening up to love). And despite my dislike of season two, the kisses were wonderful in that one too since they manage to show enduring LTR chemistry.

3. Just Friends

A shorter, older KBL and generally more gay and higher heat than the standard modern fare. But I have a real soft spot for this movie.

4. Blueming

Pretty much all of the kisses are good in this one. They don’t dwell and they are mostly more sweet than sexy, but all of them were well done and suited the complexity of this difficult little show.

5. Kissable Lips

I don’t like the end of this BL - it’s sad. But thank fuck (given the title) they didn’t mess up the kissing. They kinda HAD to get it right in this one show. I really am hoping the rumors that these two are doing another BL are true. I like their chemistry and I want them to get a better script.

6. Long Time No See

Blood covered assassins kissing, what’s not to love? Also the domestic sweetness that comes first in the kitchen in their skivvies is good too. And the bath. Looks it’s high heat and really well done. You are missing out if you have never watched this show.

7. Ocean Likes Me

It’s a solid sweet perfectly executed beach kiss. Couldn’t ask for more, really, certainly not from Korea.

8. Cherry Blossoms After Winter

Specifically the dream sequence kiss is the only good one we get. But it’s really good.

9. Oh Boarding House

Not many bothered to watch this BL because the first half is difficult to get through, but once the love triangle is established, it’s the physical attraction between the leads that results in the triangle falling out the way it does. Which means that attraction needs to be made obvious to the viewer. I thought they did a good job in this regard.

10. Tasty Florida

The DRUNK kiss. Gah, it’s great.

Wish You, First Love Again, Behind Cut, Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (gat kiss!), Tinted With You, were also decent, subtle and chaste but not overly dead-fishy.

I gotta stop knocking Korea for their kisses I guess?

He’s passionate about his hobby but doesn’t share it with others easily, until a chance encounter with a quirky sempai named Sasaki brings a new friendship. Sasaki doesn’t know what the heck a ‘seme’ or ‘uke’ is, or why he should be worried when Miyano threatens to draw doujinshi involving him, but he’s eager to learn about his cute new friend’s hobby!

Review: I think everyone knows about this manga and it’s anime, but if you don’t this post is to force you to read it! This was one of my first manga and I have cherished it since then. It’s a slow burn which makes it all the more better. The characters are really mature and incredibly sweet to each other. More than it being yaoi, it’s more shounen-ai, with cute scenes and heart melting sweet kisses. I would really recommend it to everyone, and there is an incredible anime to watch too! This series even have an incredible spin-off!

your answer was so interesting! i definitely agree, one couple that's also good with physicality is yinwar imo i don't know if you've watched love mechanics but the shower kiss is like woah. also blueming's dream kiss is soooo good! can i ask your favorite scenes where there's not a lot of physicality per se between the actors but there's physical chemistry or just chemistry? like i think there can be a LOT of chemistry in a fight for example... answer if you can think of something dw if not! <3

AAAAAAAA im really glad my answer about kisses with good physicality was interesting!!!! 🥺 and i definitely agree about the veemark's shower kiss in love mechanics!!!! i personally have some issues with the show itself, but yinwar's chemistry and physicality is NOT one of them, they possess an insane amount of both and i really hope to see them working together in another series soon!!!!

it's kinda hard to think about scenes where there's a lot of chemistry between the actors but not much physicality because most of the time the two things go hand in hand, like for example the first two scenes that popped into my mind are da woon getting the paint off si won in blueming and the "what can i do to get you back?" moment in we best love: fighting mr. 2nd, but i think those both have their own physicality that matches the tone of the scene

i did find some that may fit your request, though, so here we go!!! in no particular order....

1) basically all the scenes between jae young and sang woo in the first 6 episodes of semantic error. due to the early antagonistic nature of their relationship and the fact that sang woo doesn't like to be touched, they're the perfect example of a pairing who doesn't have a very prominent physicality for most of the show, but still has crazy physical chemistry

2) the "i thought we should know each other's name if we're going to be friends" scene in the eighth sense. when the gazing is so intense it sucks all the air out of the room and leaves you breathless

3) the "have you been well without me" scene in our dating sim. they don't have as much physical chemistry as other pairings in here, imho, but i LOVE this scene and i agree with you that fights, or even just arguments, bring out a lot of the chemistry between actors since the tension is high and there are a lot of emotions involved

4) the "you punch me once, i kiss you once" scene in the eclipse. one of the reasons enemies to lovers is so popular in fiction is because it's a type of dynamic where, just like in a full blown fight, the tension between the characters is so high that it brings out the chemistry between the actors. and when the chemistry is already there to begin with you get firstkhao as akkayan

5) the "are you saying that i hurt you" scene in kinnporsche. however people may feel about this show, i think it's undeniable that mileapo have great physical chemistry, even when the characters aren't actually all-over each other

6) palmnueng dancing with maggie and ben respectively in never let me go. pondphuwin's chemistry so deranged that they be dancing with other people and still have the most palpable tension with each other from across the room

7) the danyok "i find you"/"i want to know who you are" scene in not me. look, there are some actors who simply have chemistry with EVERYONE and mr. first kanaphan is one of them. all the early danyok scenes in particular were incredibly delicious from this point of view

speaking of not me and actors who have chemistry with everyone, do non-canon pairings in BLs still count here because the gram(black!)white study scene and toddblack gun fight scene are INSANE, chemistry-wise, and no im not still bitter neither pairing ended up happening what are you talking about :))))))))

honestly there are tons of other pairings that i think have fantastic chemistry but i just can't remember a particular scene where they don't show a lot of physicality, so im just gonna list some here if you're curious: tehohaew in i told sunset about you, both payurain and prapaisky in love in the air (again, doesn't matter how people feel about the show itself, the chemistry between the actors is undeniable), fightertutor in why r u, jimwen in moonlight chicken, winteam in until we meet again/between us, pluemkevin in ghost host ghost house......

Random thoughts about City of Stars the series episode 3:

Not many things happened in this episode. I think it's quite a performance to be able to have a 50 minute-long episode with few real steps forward in the story. I'm not saying it's bad, but I wished the pace wasn't that slow.

▪️ Krom still acted as Fueang manager in this episode. He had to overcome a challenge to make him get in time for a talk-show where the host is well-known for criticizing his guests if they make the mistake of being late. It's funny because Bangkok is known for having really bad traffic. The host was so fussy for no reason but it helped to highlight how great Fueang is.

▪️ Does Fueang have any flaws? One thing I noticed is how he is great at everything. He is nice to everyone including fans. He always find the right answer. He is never grumpy or have any mood swings. You can always find him smiling. It's unsettling. Is it a choice to show later in the series how his persona is hard to maintain, or is he just a Gary Stu? Make no mistake about it, I really like Fueang but he seems too perfect to be real. Kodit, at least, is shown to be a player, despite being a famous actors loved by many fans.

▪️ The little scene with the blind fan was cute and it allowed Krom to see how Fueang is really dedicated to his fanbase but also it gave him another reason to fall deeper in love with him. Indeed, in this episode, Krom finally realized he is attracted to Fueang and that's why he wants to spend all his time with him, despite being on vacations. I don't think being a manager is hardly restful.

▪️ Thankfully, Krom also discovered Fuaeng and him feel mutual love, in a weird scene. I don't know why they made it so complicated. Fuaeng was sleeping, then Kodit and the manager came so Krom pretended to be sleeping too but he failed because Kodit noticed it and revealed the truth about Fuaeng liking Krom. Then they left the room and Fuaeng opened his eyes and came to see if Krom heard anything, but he lied to him, pretending he never heard them. WHY?!!! I hate when the characters don't communicate well their feelings. It leads to miscommunication and misunderstanding.

▪️ However, I want to say how those two actors know how to kiss well. I found their dream-kiss so beautiful. It was so sweet. I was disappointed to discover it wasn't real. It was just the perfect time to do it.

Let's hope in next episode they will finally reveal how they love each other. Unfortunately, I believe they won't...
