Week 11 (2): Videos for Teaching and Learning
I have used a lot of educational videos from YouTube as teaching material for my Google Classroom. They are very useful for explaining difficult topics, to introduce new topics, for revision and to consolidate students' pre-existing knowledge.
Educational videos are not only very important for online sessions in the absence of face to face teaching/interaction, but can also be used as valuable teaching material in educational settings (i.e in the classroom). They often include visual aids like video segments, pictures, graphs and are well balanced with clear and concise explanations with examples (if you find the right videos). Below are some of the videos I have used which I have found particularly useful:
Topic 10): Parts of speech
Video used(Link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dna4Tl_YlA
This video gives a very good, clear, concise and simple explanation for this topic. It gives very good explanations on the 9 parts of speech (in the English language - grammar) combined with examples, visual aids (in the form of notes) and exercises with practice to apply what has been explained. This video is perfect as an introduction for the different parts of speech and can be included in lessons on this topic.
Topic 1): Nouns
Video used (Link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sBYpxaDOPo
This video gives a very good introduction to the topic (nouns). It also elaborates on the different types of nouns in a simple and concise manner with examples.
There are many other videos which have been included to my Google classroom because of the added value they bring to the topics which are dealt with in it.
By the end of the day, one must still do the strict minimum of planning their google classrooms/lessons carefully and review the videos carefully (are they accurate? Do they match with your lesson objectives...). There are many very good educational videos out there to be used, it is up to us educators to do our due diligence to explore them and use them when possible/necessary.

Personal views on GC
I think that Google Classroom is great and will be of much help to me as a future KRM educator especially if a situation like Covid-19 were to arise again. Nonetheless, it will be convenient up to only a certain extent. I will not be able to use it past Grade 7 or less since some subjects cannot be taught in such a way. It has to have a live and mutual interaction. For example, I cannot teach them literature in KRM because I will not be able to assess how they act out the characters and all.

things i've heard college professors say pt. 15
-type “humpty dumpty sat on a wall humpty dumpty had a great fall” with no spaces and no regrets
-I sincerely don’t sit around reading the wills of people from 16th century Stratford-upon-Avon
-do we have a federal department of education? *reluctantly* yes we do
-okay. It’s 10:30 and I’m cold and mad.
-I was assigned to read Macbeth and was like what the fuck, I want to play Nintendo
-That sounds like something said by someone who wrote 12 historyplays
-I googled today, which I really suggest you guys do
-not to bring up florida,
-current event: balloons!
-(cytogeneticist) I make a lot of money saying I don’t know. It’s a pretty sweet gig.
-*someone comes into the classroom looking lost* is there a meeting in here at 11?
(professor) no i don’t think so, this class goes until 11:30
*person leaves*
(professor, turning back to the class) probably a serial killer
-Yeah, and then Shakespeare was like I never fucking loved you–
-The three typical sources of creative nonfiction essays are the unconscious mind, literature, or the trauma of our lives. Now none of these are technically untrue–
-you don’t have to be smart to understand Shakespeare
*alarm starts going off on student’s phone*
OH GOD I’M SORRY IM BEING SMITED
-“In which the men spend several hours taunting each other with speeches and thwacking each other with sticks.” Yes. That sounds perfect.
-This is, like, nerdy shit I’ve learned over the years

Ilana Berger at MMFA:
Google is allowing right-wing propaganda organization PragerU to run climate-denying ads on its search engine even though the tech giant previously committed to prohibiting ads that feature claims that contradict the “well-established scientific consensus” about climate change. In 2021, Google updated its ad policy to prohibit ads for or on content that “contradicts well-established scientific consensus around the existence and causes of climate change.”  Yet, nearly three years later, Google is still profiting from ads that contain climate change misinformation.  When Media Matters searched for phrases like “climate change,” “global warming,” and “climate crisis” on Google Search, the search engine returned PragerU ads that promised its website reveals “the truth about climate change” — or what it calls the “fake climate catastrophe.”  “Climate policies are causing inflation and keeping poor countries trapped in poverty,” the ad-description text read. “Get the facts with our Climate Change and Energy playlist.”
[...]
PragerU is deeply rooted in climate change denial
Along with the Daily Wire, PragerU is financially dependent on generous donations from fossil fuel billionaire Farris Wilks.  Recently,  PragerU Kids, a PragerU offshoot that produces conservative “educational” content targeted at school age children, has partnered with five different states to bring right-wing propaganda into public school classrooms.  Media Matters reviewed PragerU Kids’ ”educational” content and found it was rife with misinformation about climate change. In one video, a cartoon narrator explains why embracing climate denialism is akin to participating in the Warsaw uprising, when Polish Jews attempted to liberate Warsaw from German occupation during WWII.
Google profits off of right-wing propaganda factory PragerU's climate change denialism ads.

Week 11: Using videos in Google classroom: Why reinvent the wheel?
Why reinvent the wheel by creating your videos for explanations on different topics for online teaching i.e through google classroom?
Videos are very useful as teaching materials for online classes. They can compensate to some extent for the lack of face to face explanations, are easy to follow along (at least simpler than reading). Nowadays, there are thousands of educational videos which are available on some platforms like YouTube which provides quality materials and explanations (with visual aids like video footage, graphs, pictures).
Instead of spending a lot of time and resources for creating your own videos, why not spend your time wisely by looking for good videos which explains the topic you want to teach (if they exist). TBC

Google Classroom
In my BITC module, creating a fun, educational, interesting and which caters for each and everyone’s has been a rollercoaster for me. Google classroom has nonetheless grown to be one of best tools that I have used so far though. This is because it is an online tool which pertains to everything which is needed in teaching: creation of documentation, assignments, engaging students, tracking whether they have been doing their work or not etc…
Advantages of Google Classroom:
It is surprisingly easy to use for someone like me who does not like technological tools and it can be accessed from any device such as my telephone, laptop or tablet.
As an educator, keeping up with all my students is no easy task. Therefore, GC facilitates that for me by already ticking off assignments which have been submitted and not.
Moreover, it consists of great tools such as google slides which can be really helpful in making student learning way more fun as compared to simply handing it out to them.
Lastly, I think that it is a great tool for students who cannot go at the same pace as others. After posting my topics for example, I do not have to rush or pressurise my students into understanding it all at once. They can learn at their own pace which is something that I strive for as an educator. Moreover, the notes, links and everything will be at my students’ disposition anytime they want to which again, does not rush them into writing it all down at once.
Disadvantages of Google Classroom:
It lacks the feature of doing online class through a live interaction (video call). I can only with my students through google documents and all. Moreover, there is no live chat. Therefore, after posting my materials, there is no specific way for me to know whether my students have understood it or not or if they have questions on the spot/need immediate clarification unless they send me an email.
Also, there is no feature of automatic quizzes or examinations/assessments. Therefore, it is up to me as an educator to know how to use other technological tools to assess my students and afterwards paste the link in my GC.
