one of my favorite things about wicked the musical (and to be clear, there are many. so many) is the repetition and variation on the “you/we deserve each other” theme. Just about every group of folks in the main cast of characters either say this about each other or have it said to them: G(a)linda and Fiyero, Elphaba and Fiyero, Nessarose and Boq, Nessarose and the wicked witch of the east, Elphaba and her hat (e.g. her own witchiness, destiny, etc., and which is also one of my favorite things about the musical in that it’s the first, but not the last, part of the Witch’s costume that Glinda bestows on her).
Just about the only couple who doesn’t get it said about them - and notable precisely bc of its omission because the story is about the two of them! - is Glinda and Elphaba.
There are a lot of ways to take this but here’s what I believe about it: that the “you deserve each other” theme is something that always, at its heart, becomes a bitter thing... and the heart of Glinda and Elphaba’s relationship is anything but bitterness. In fact it’s entirely the opposite. It’s understood that they deserve each other, in the same way it’s understood that - because the play is a tragedy - they also can never have each other in permanent way.

i want to study phannie lesbians.
like we look at dan howell (gender envy of all) and go “wife” “girlfriend” and don’t get me started on our feelings about sister daniel because i can’t talk about her casually. she’ss too mu.ch .
and now phil has been looking particularly Gender recently and phannie lesbians are like 👀 like i saw a youtube comment and it was basically someone saying “im a lesbian and phil’s hair colours rn are way too pretty” and im like yeah he HAS been looking extra pretty??
dan has always had SO MUCH gender that he’s confused people all across the gender and sexuality continuum. we were absolutely onto something with the “tall lesbian” shenanigans back in the day. he’s just very lesbian coded in a way that’s simply understood and known.
but idk ever since the phair change phil has been looking particularly Wife and Girlfriend.
all i’m saying is if phil ever gets into a slutty nun costume then he and dan have the potential to become the lesbian power couple our world needs 😤

In my experience some straight guys also develop an insane martyr complex when it comes to unrequited love.... I understand that being rejected frequently sucks and whatnot, but one of my friends who confessed his feelings to me despite knowing I liked somebody else was unnecessarily wallowing in his hurt in a way that I was meant to see and it was insanely uncomfortable. Especially because you literally. Don't have to do that. Two of my boyfriend's closest female friends are girls who turned him down when he asked them out, and the fact that he was also super chill with me not wanting to date him when he first asked me about it was a huge green flag. Typing this out now, I think the main issue with men who throw hissy fits is that it makes the entire friendship feel like a ploy to get sex, or like a one sided situation where they turned you into their dream girl ultimate wife fantasy, with them being "friendzoned" serving as part of said narrative. It just leaves you feeling like all this time spent together was built on their false expectations and the whole time they were just waiting for something.
Men who feel friendzoned never cared about the friendship as anything more than a necessary step towards sex or dating, which is why they feel victimized. To them, they have wasted time and energy on an investment that didn't pan out. They were never your friend to begin with. They were a suitor playing the long game. Meanwhile when we feel girlfriendzoned by someone we thought was invested in us as a friend, the way we were with them, it's because we have lost a (platonic) relationship we genuinely cared about without further expectations.

The thing about moon^2 is that it has such perfect set up for tragedy it's dripping with it and yet obviously it will never ever happen
Obviously moonpaw is going to be the torture girl with visions of this arc but it could be so good if pushed in a new direction. The moonpool itself is sending it's visions to moonpaw because starclan knows of its inevitable destruction by the two legs and instead of trying to warn anyone about it, they have decided that this apprentice will be the new gateway between the stars and the earth. Starclan has always demanded the bodies of those who worship them and this time they will quite literally force it.
And the parallels between leafpool and moonpaw would go crazyyyyyyy. Her lesbian ghost aunt helping her defy their gods and get into a relationship with the place leafpool found. Making it all the more heartbreaking when the moonpool is destroyed and moonpaw takes its place. The drama of it all

yeah im a aro-spec lesbian and ive literally been told that im 'reinforcing the predatory lesbian stereotype' bc i still sleep w/ ppl even tho im not really interested in dating rn. it doesnt matter that there are plenty of other lesbians that have casual sex, but apparently thats fine since they can fall in love but its bad when i do it bc im just 'using ppl' and 'have commitment issues'. even tho the women i sleep w/ all know and are fine w/ there not being any potential romance. but yeah amatonormativity totally isnt a problem in the lesbian community 🙄
yeah godddd even in queer spaces im super hesitant about being openly aro. cause casual sex/FWB is all fun and quirky when you're assumed to be allo and will eventually get a romantic partner/view casual sex as a gateway to romance. but if you are openly aro and want casual sex/FWB/sexual friendship/etc. then you are reinforcing stereotypes/internalized homophobia/traumatized/commitment issues/a heartless slut preying on allo people (who have feelings while we don't because we're incapable of love or being hurt!)
i think a lot of allo people don't understand that there is a difference in how people treat someone whose "taking a break from dating/sex to focus on themself" or "just having fun and letting off steam" and an aro/ace person just. existing and doing anything at all. if i told people i was taking a break from dating pr wasn't looking for anything serious right now they'd be totally chill, but say i don't feel romantic attraction, never want a romantic relationship and my ideal relationship is "friends with benefits"? suddenly they treat me like i'm a dr. phil guest.
and its bitterly ironic for the exact reason you mentioned: allos accuse us of "leading people on" and tend to assume we're going to be somehow toxic or abusive or predatory in relationships. and so we'll be so painfully clear about what we want and don't want and get confirmation that its okay a million times.... and then our allo lovers will get mad at us for not being okay with things we explicitly said we weren't okay with, and for not falling in love despite our explicit explanation that we don't fall in love.

i thought for SURE there would be a post out there about doubling/mirroring in the handmaiden so i didnt bother to take more screenshots than these but i now cant find anyone talking about it so here i go anyway. like yes resemblance between women can be the result of enforced conformity to standards of femininity but also and crucially recognition of resemblance can act as a gateway to feelings of solidarity that eventually allow two people caught in a trap to stop climbing over each other and start boosting each other up instead. there is something about the pursuit of lesbian relationship that allows for the full realization of the radical potential embedded in that initial moment of recognition; that perverts and corrupts a resemblance which originally served as an expression of conformity into a marker of belonging to a conspiracy against one's oppressors. lesbianism here works as the antidote to the problem of fragmentation posed by the gothic double; if in sedgwick's formulation doubleness arises because the gothic self is "blocked off from something it ought normally have access to," such that the doubles become "counterparts rather than partners" and "the relationship between them is one of parallels and correspondences rather than communication," lesbian relationship reforges the unity that has been ruptured by conditions of exploitation, isolation, secrecy, and violence, reuniting doubles who have been made to oppose one another despite their parallel positions in narrative and social structure. even if all that initially caught their attention was their shared features, that moment of identification creates an opening through which they are able to recognize their shared interests and as a result move to avert their shared fate.

6. How they decorated their bedroom
We see their room in the musical, so I'll answer this for the book! Galinda ofc is obsessed with image, and projecting a very specific kind of said image - sheeeee's rich! Sheeeeee's definitely part of this social class she's trying to fit her way into! Despite the fact that for the first year she was actively trying not to let anyone inside her room bc she was so ashamed of her forced association with Elphaba, I def think in the beginning she lived and breathed the image she was trying to become, absolutely not an expression of self, and I think as she got access to the other girls and their rooms, she adjusted accordingly in an attempt to match them while Elphaba watched in silent judgment across the room. Honestly I'm thinking like prints or knockoff copies of paintings by whoever's popular - not whoever the art circles are talking about bc they're causing a stir, that's not safe enough and would require her to have a divisive opinion about it, I mean absolutely inoffensive stuff that you say 'that's nice' about but blends in the background. Thrifted knickknacky stuff that's absolute fluff that is close enough to what she imagines populates the richer girls' houses. Honestly maybe some doilies. Fluffy bedding and a canopy she'd put in on the four poster. The irony being ofc that all the rich girls know she's not rich and not of their class, and if they saw all this stuff they'd be like cringe she's trying too hard, poor silly stupid Galinda to think she's actually one of us.
(Elphaba doesn't decorate her side of the room at all as commentary on what's happening on the other side of the room, and out of both a lack of sentimental items to decorate with and a complete lack of desire to do so regardless.)
By the time Galinda shifts into Glinda, I think she'd toss out a bunch of this stuff and put up art she has an opinion on, perhaps that she'd seen out with Elphaba and debated with her, perhaps that Elphaba herself bought her from some artist in Railway Square and makes Glinda feel oddly warm when she looks at on her wall, and she'd keep it there even if she didn't actually aesthetically love the piece, which is also, after all, cheap. I think she'd have a lot more fun with her love of architecture too, def a lot more books placed prominently at the very least. The canopy on her four poster stays but the fluffy lacy stuff on her bed gets replaced with comfy stuff she actually likes. She visits home and brings back a childhood stuffed animal or two or three. She and Elphaba argue over whether it's an animal or Animal.
(Elphaba starts to accrue things that aren't books too, from Boq and Crope and Tibbett and Fiyero and Nessa and most of all Glinda. Most she either throws away unsentimentally if she has no practical need of/desire for them, but some she places haltingly on her bedside table, and one she hangs on her wall, the lone thing she's hung up on a sea of neutral beige. This is also from Glinda, and it's a piece of modern art by the same Railway Square artists who'd created the one she'd purchased for Glinda that hangs directly across the room. Glinda had laughed when Elphaba put it up on the dare, knowing Elphaba liked it less than she did, but neither take them down. The very idea of it feels wrong.)
((Glinda hangs onto both when she moves out of the room and marries vaguely into the class she'd been after. Chuffrey is too kind and refined to do anything like wrinkle his nose but he does say something like my dear that's an interesting choice of art do you really believe it quite goes with the rest of the room? To which Lady Chuffrey says its my bedroom and I'll hang up whatever art I damn well please, and that's the end of that.))

Elsa + Queen Disa VS Elsa + Honeymaren
A conversation about this before it turns into a discussion beyond what I'm seeing in my social circle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The look of Queen Disa from the "Frozen Podcast" was recently revealed, and due to her interaction with Elsa in it, a new shipp is being born in the Frozen fandom: Elsa + Queen Disa.
I haven't watched the entire podcast yet, but I've seen some analyzes and in fact Elsa and Disa have a lot of interesting scenes: they start off having problems with each other because of their thoughts about magic and technology, they eventually end up helping each other (especially Disa helps Elsa), and in the end they really become friends, promising a new moment for them to meet. It's almost like "enemies to lovers".
And because Elsa + Honeymaren is the current shipp, it is obviously leading to a certain principle of rivalry. And a lot of people jumped on the theory that Elsa is a lesbian because of Elsa + Honeymaren, and now we have a new girl to steal some of the spotlight.
Tumblr media
I went through this myself in "Frozen 2" with the appearance of Elsa + Honeymaren to the detriment of Elsa + Marisol. As I said before, I had certain problems with "Frozen 2" at the beginning: I hated the separation of the sisters and that Marisol was technically replaced by Honeymaren. It took me a while to understand "Frozen 2" and accept ElsaMaren, and especially to understand that Honeymaren is the mainstream version of Marisol, the version that Disney could take to the cinema.
And so today we have an absence of the Northuldra tribe in material that precisely addresses the Enchanted Forest, and in Honeymaren's place we have Queen Disa who is appearing on the "Frozen Podcast" alongside her sisters.
A few days ago I made a post talking about the possibility that in “Frozen 3” instead of having an approximation of Elsa with Honeymaren, there would be an approximation of Elsa with an original woman, a more mainstream character and free for Disney to use in merchandising. And therefore be different from a woman linked to a tribe that exists in real life and that perhaps has some control over her image, as is perhaps the case with Honeymaren. And now we have Queen Disa.
I really don't believe that Queen Disa is in "Frozen 3", although a podcast released close to the franchise's anniversary is more mainstream than a book or a comic, I still don't think it's relevant enough to be the gateway to a character that it will be in a film... but I could be wrong, I never rule anything out.
Tumblr media
But unlike my initial problem with Honeymaren, I don't intend to create any resistance to the possibility of a new woman for Elsa. As long as it's a woman I have no problem.
And one last text about Elsa + Queen Disa vs Elsa + Honeymaren. Queen Disa and Honeymaren are almost opposites:
Disa seems to be much more extroverted while Honeymaren has already demonstrated that she has some problems speaking in public (Disney Magic Kingdoms).
Disa is a book girl, Honeymaren is a warrior.
Disa is knowledgeable in technology while Honeymaren has some knowledge in magic.
Disa is the girl of the city and modernity while Honeymaren is the girl of the forest and traditions.
Whether it was a coincidence or not, I found this interesting, and it's really easy to see Elsa pairing up with the two women: friendship beginning until an eventual romance.

@threetrenchcoatsinatrenchcoat asked on my main blog what my ideal Time Quangle pc/setting combination is, but I’m going to answer it here >:3
Setting: Spyre. I had a bit of a hard time choosing between Calorum and Spyre bc I love both of those worlds but I have to say Spyre bc of the modern aspects to it.
As for the PCs…
Zac - Gorgug. Gorgug can be so chill but also so pissed in a way that is hilarious to me. He will get mad at a moments notice at the smallest things. I think he would hate the rest of the lineup.
Ally - Margaret Encino. Now is Margaret my favorite Ally PC? No. However I do think she is the funniest one. As a cringefail lesbian girlboss in the world of Spyre there is an 80% chance she would sleep with Sandra Lynn and that is hilarious to me.
Lou - Pinocchio. This high voiced boy puppet is also not my favorite Lou character however I think the dynamics he would have with this group would be bonkers. Margaret would be confused and maybe horrified by him. Gorgug would think he’s creepy and annoying. It would be a madhouse.
Murph - Cody. He’s a mall goth in the only other setting that would have a mall that he would even vaguely recognize or understand. Spyre has so many cool swords. He would make deals with every devil he meets, including Bill Seacaster.
Siobhan - Adaine. I think she and Margaret would get on OK, but with the exception of Gorgug I think she would be at the others throats. She would treat Cody like a Biz type and be exhausted by Pinocchios antics.
Emily - Jet Rocks. Jet and Pinocchio together would destroy Spyre with their chaos. She would flirt with Cody who would be disturbed by the fact she is made of licorice and knows nothing about my chemical romance. It would be perfect.
I imagine the plot would be them all going to the synod astral plane mall to try to find a wizard powerful enough to send everyone back to their homes, however they end up in the strudel dimension fighting sentient strudel-taurs who guard the one true interdimensional gateway

Hi, i understand it's sound as a silly question, but would you recommend watching Utena? And if yes, what should i expect from it...?
Anon, I’m so serious when I say every person over the age of 13 should watch Revolutionary Girl Utena. It changes and saves lives. A gateway to feminist theory.
Now, about your question on what to expect from Utena? Some people say it’s about lesbianism but I strongly disagree. Sure, there are lesbians in it. The main couple is two lesbians and their journey together. But lesbianism is not really what it is about.
RGU is about gender. It’s also about family. It’s about the intersection of power within the family unit through a gendered lens. It’s about how the concept of family’s natural endpoint is incest NOT because incest is “forbidden love” but because it is the oppression and abuse of a patriarchal society distilled into its purest form.
RGU is a fairytale deconstruction that doesn’t try to be edgy and different. It simply asks the question of who benefits from the narratives within fairytales. There is a prince. There is a princess. He saves her, what more can you say? It’s the subject and the object. And then there are those who don’t comply with the natural order. Of course that’s a villain. But real life is more complicated than that.
Utena episodes are silly. They’re zany and play quite nicely with other fake european style school animes. They’re also chock full of psychological horror. You’ll also get kickass fight songs like this one as Utena duels with a variety of colorful characters with awesome hair. Be ready to rewatch episodes trying to understand whatever that one shot or highlighted symbol meant. Be ready to be horrified by implied grooming and incestuous rape that hits way harder than if it was shown graphically onscreen.
But more than anything else - at least for me - Utena is about hope. It’s about having hope and then finding courage in yourself to leave unhealthy situations both interpersonal and within yourself. It’s about giving yourself the chance to heal.
You too can escape the cycle!
