Gabriël Metsu - Man Writing a Letter, c.1664 - c.1666 Johannes Vermeer - Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window, 1657
Man Writing a Letter is a companion piece to Woman Reading a Letter, in which the woman has received the young man's letter and is reading it intently. Records indicate the paintings have always been owned as a pair. The paintings were owned by Hendrick Sorgh, an art collector in Amsterdam.

Unknown Artist, 'Portrait of an Officer or an Admiral', oil on canvas, no date (circa 1640-1660), Dutch, currently in the collection of the Louvre, Paris, France.
Whilst the portrait has an old inscription identifying it as a 'Portrait of Admiral Tromp, Duke of Valentinois, 1741, Terbourg', the Louvre refutes this attribution, as well as the attribution to the artist Gabriel Metsu (b.1629 - d.1667).
However, the history of this portrait is well known. First noted in the collection of the Jacques de Matignon Grimaldi, Prince of Monaco and Duke de Valentinois (b.1689 - d.1751), then through the family line until its sale circa 1803 in Paris; then purchased via a Parisian art dealer and listed in the Musee Napoleon (former name for the Louvre) archives under Gabriel Metsu & Gerard ter Borch variously until 1818.
