Chillin’ with the Lads™ at Camp Magnus

(Heads up that the TMA discord that I mod for is hosting a “Camp Week” packed full of super cool daily events hosted from July 1st to July 7th and if you’re interested, you should definitely join! The link and more information can be found below the cut.)

Welcome to The Magnus Institute!

We’re a 15+ TMA community and daily live-listen discord server with over 350 members that’s here for you to make friends, chill out, and prepare you for The Magnus Protocol!

Our goal is to foster a community that can involve anyone and everyone: from hardcore TMA veterans to those who have never listened to the podcast before. We've got some epic channels that create fun spaces for artists, writers, gamers, and theorists, along with those who’re just into chilling out.

The start of Camp Week means lots of events! Feel free to join the server to check out the full schedule, but here’s a short list of some events we’ll be hosting from Saturday July 1st to Friday July 7th;

We’ve also set up cabins to create a little bit of camp spirit and competition! By participating in events, you’ll be able to win points for your cabin which will be tallied at the end of the week to determine who reigns supreme! You’ll be able to choose to join 1 of 4 cabins; Gertrude’s Goobers, Leitner’s Losers, Mikaele’s Malewives, and Smirke’s Seniors.

We also have a Minecraft Server dropping on the 1st along with the start of camp week! So if you’re into mining or crafting, make sure to check out the server.

I should also note that a big part of our server’s draw is the daily live listens. We’ve been listening to an episode of TMA every day since March, and as of today (the 26th), we’re on MAG 92 - Nothing Beside Remains. So, if you’d like to join us (or catch up) and listen to the last half of the podcast alongside a live chat every day at 6pm BST and 6pm PT, then we’d love to have you!

i’m a little anxious to send this not on anon but i saw one of your posts where a comment mentioned jewish conversion and you seemed to support it. my boyfriend is jewish and i would like to convert to judaism but a lot of the research i’ve done says that you can’t convert, you have to be born into it since it’s an ethno-religion. i know everyone has different beliefs about this but i worry i won’t be accepted

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that! D: There's so much misinformation being passed around online. :( Thankfully, I'm happy to report that those sources are incorrect: It IS possible to convert to Judaism. ^_^

Like any group, though, how friendly any given Jew is to potential Jewish converts depends on the individual and/or the group they belong in. Just as there's elitism and gatekeeping in every group of people ever (like high school cliques and video game circles--"you're not a REAL gamer unless X"), unfortunately you'll also find some snobbery, elitism, and gatekeeping in Judaism. :(

Though I think Rabbi Friedman has a very loving and accepting view of Jews by conversion. ^_^

The way I see it, the differing experiences of a "Jew-by-birth vs a Jew-by-conversion" can be comparable to an American citizen who was just born on American soil vs an American immigrant who had to go through a long and rigorous bureaucratic process to become an American citizen--they have to learn everything there is to know about American history, presidents, laws, customs, the legal system; spend a "probational period" living in America to become a naturalized citizen, etc.

(The Jewish religion used to be very conversion friendly, but that came to an end when Christianity and Islam became huge world powers who outlawed the Jewish community "tempting" good Christians or Muslims away from the One True Faith.

Jewish identity also used to be passed down from father to children in ancient times--as you'll see in the Torah--but that was changed by Hillel the Elder during the tyrannical reign of King Herod--yes, THAT King Herod! Hillel did this partly to give the children of Jewish mothers who were abandoned by their non-Jewish fathers a place in Jewish society, and he did this partly as a big old political "fuck you!" to King Herod, whose father was only nominally Jewish and his mother was a foreign gentile woman.)

Chabad is an Orthodox Jewish organization.

And here's a link from a Reform Judaism POV. ^_^

In my experience, Reform Jewish synagogues and organizations tend to be more accepting of and friendly to Jewish converts. (Though it's not universal! Sadly, there are snobs everywhere. D:)

So if I were you, I would just start with checking out some books on Judaism from your local library, attend Friday night or Saturday morning Shabbat services with your boyfriend (that's usually a time when non-Jewish guests attend).

If your local college has a Hillel or Chabad Jewish student organization, I would visit that too! They usually host fun events that are free and open to to all, especially students who're just interested in connecting with other Jewish students, and learning about Jewish identity. ^_^

In the meantime, I'd just take time to study and learn about Jewish history and culture just for fun.

I think Sam Aranow's "Jewish History" Youtube series is a very entertaining way to learn about Jewish history, from ancient to modern.

OK I slept for 9 hours and eated a sandwich. I will now speak about why the events of this past week made me clinically insane, especially last night. long post, sorry. I'm normal I swear just not about this or most things

basically I started watching wrestling on new year's day '24 because a podcast host I like said he liked it, so I said let me give this a shot, everything I've ever heard about wrestling makes it seem stupid asf but why not I have a free day. and.

the podcast host (it's anthony burch) was talking about a guy called cody rhodes so I typed that into youtube. watched clips of the 2023 wwe wargames because that was topical at the time. I saw cody, sami, jey, seth, randy and the judgment day, and instantly liked rhea, damian, seth and cody in particular. watched the latter 2 in hell in a cell. more clips. watched even more. seth was flashy and cool and oh what's that, a clip called 'the shield implodes'. roman reigns is there, I know him from pop culture as being hot and despised and now, from being linked to jey. holy shit why did seth do that. that other guy looks like he's gonna cry. hold up why he kinda..

2 months later. I'm 2 years deep into dean ambrose's wwe career. I've seen dozens of hours of his best friendship with roman and situationship with seth, and cody rhodes has even popped up as a cartoon character. I've seen moxley matches from czw and fcw. his angy promos. seth and roman pop up occasionally. I'm leery of aew because nobody I know is there except dean, but let me just try out a match. bcc vs the elite. holy crap that was fucken sick let me check out others whooaahhh these guys are FLIPPIN wait is that.

I start watching being the elite and cody is there. I switch between aew and wwe and get the grim tale of wrestlers transferring over and back, the feuds, the pettiness, the amazing matches. in one tab the rock is announcing he's fighting roman at wrestlemania and in another the bullet club are picking a new founder. I'm also watching njpw at this point. I participate in the we want cody movement. shit happens.

wrestlemania week. I'm seeing cody and the bucks and kenny get giddy over starting a new company in 2019. cody is wearing suits to monday night raw even though he talked mad shit abt wwe as recently as 3 yrs ago. mjf. luchas. dark order. house of black. performers I'm watching in 2014 that died last year. cody vs roman announced and seth is there and roman calls him 'little brother' and moxley is not beside them. cm punk spills abt drama on a podcast. the bucks fire back. I learned about this beef A WEEK AGO and it happened LAST YEAR and NOW it's coming to a head

night 2. roman is assisted in defeating cody except the shield music plays. I have seen every single shield match AND dean, roman and seth match between 2012-2015 in full at this point. I get shocked so bad I almost have a panic attack bc I am. certain that moxley is about to rock up with seth. he doesn't. but roman hears that music and sees seth in his old gear and like a war veteran is transported back to the moment his world shattered, the moment seth destroyed the shield and set into motion events that would lead to seth becoming a solo champion, dean leaving, and roman being left so vulnerable afterwards that the first chance he had to use his cousins - his last remaining friends - as tools he took it. roman has the opportunity to end cody or inflict pain on an already downed seth and he cannot help himself. at the time I'm typing out a post before he even does it because I'm that certain he will, and the chair goes into seth's back and roman goes down, and he's smiling as he's pinned because that sliver of revenge tasted so much sweeter than 3 years at the top, alone. destroying seth wasn't getting his brothers back but at least he has crushed this monster inside him that grew teeth and claws from being hated and abandoned and hurt. moxley isn't there and seth is and that's kind of the point, that's the reason for the rage and the pain and why roman had to make it end. had to.

and cody wins. and I'm searching him on youtube. and its after over a decade of this story but it's only been 3 months for me

Content warnings for dysphoria, mention of needles (talking about taking T), and a brief mention of transphobia in HABIT’s section (not from HABIT)

HABIT

HABIT isn’t the most up to date on LGBTQ+ terms. He know’s what they are, he’s basically gender-fluid and he’s been around almost as long as humans also I hc Evan as trans, but he might need a refresher on the exacts of it.

He’s not the best at comforting, but in his defense that’s the opposite of his usual job. He gets better at it with time, calling you his handsome rabbit and talking about how masculine you look.

If anyone misgenders you, even accidentally, you won’t have time to react before HABIT is in their face and threatening them. You should probably pull him away before he gets the cops called on him. Again. “He’s a guy dipshit, call him a girl again and I’ll gouge your eyes out. You clearly aren’t using ‘em.”

If you’re at a point where you don’t have many masculine clothes he’ll let you dig through Evan’s his closet, but take fashion advice from HABIT at your own risk, dude dresses like he went through a Spencer’s in the dark.

If you take testosterone injections he’s more than willing to help. He’s got a pretty steady hand and… experience with sharp things. Actually kind of good at distracting you if you don’t like needles. He’s brought up doing your top surgery himself (if you mention wanting it) and you’re only 90% sure he’s joking. He’s confident he could learn how to do it with a youtube tutorial and one of his knives.

Jay

Same hat! Jay’s also a trans guy! He’s not great with his words but he’s really good at cuddling (surprisingly soft for how bony he is) and listening to you. He’ll tell you he knows you’re a guy and he knows how bad dysphoria sucks. Not the most eloquently worded, but he gets it.

If you have top dysphoria, he’s given you free reign of his hoodies. He’s used them for his top dysphoria for years they work like magic. If you use one of his expect him to wanna borrow something of yours. You walk into his room looking for the sweatshirt you left and find him asleep wearing it.

Jay’s also willing to help you get more masculine clothes, he’ll go shopping with you but his tastes in clothing is super plain. Complete opposite end of the spectrum to HABIT.

Jay’s been using t-gel for a few years now specifically because he doesn’t want to give himself shots. If you take t shots he’ll offer to help you with them but he’s better at emotional support. Hand holding champ of the year.

Tim

Tim’s got the least knowledge on the subject out of anyone on this list. He knows you and Jay, and he knows that being trans is… a thing that exists? You might wanna actually talk with him about this cause he’s basically clueless.

He’s surprisingly good for support considering he barely knew about the topic an hour ago. His hugs feel warm and safe and he says things with such confidence you can’t help but feel better. He’s got some solid advice for passing if you feel like you need help with it, but he’s also good at just listening if you wanna vent about it.

If you wanna take T-shots he’ll help you. His meds and smoking make his hand shake a little, but if he braces it against a table or whatever he’ll be able to do it just fine.

He doesn’t have a large wardrobe, but if you wanna borrow one of his flannels you’re more than welcome to it. Tim’s also got a pretty decent sense of fashion, probably the one I’d most recommend going clothes shopping with.

Brian

Brian’s the best at comforting you by far, he’s great with compliments. Dysphoria’s mentioned and he’s already up and telling you about how handsome you look. He tries out new compliments and affirmations every few days and he’s gone from “Lookin’ handsome today!” To just saying “That was pretty manly of ya.” Over random little things you do, smiling at you like you’re his whole world.

He’s also probably your best choice for help with T-shots if needed, he’s already got a good idea of what to do and he’ll distract you. He asks about your day while doing it, giving your hand a gentle squeeze and making sure you don’t hold your breath.

His hoodie is also available for use if you want it! He’ll take you clothes shopping if you want him to, but if you mention wanting something baggy to wear say no more! Brian’s taking his hoodie off for you as you speak.

We had the boys' conferences.

Grayson's was absolutely horrible, but we expected it. They pretty much said he's very nice and kind but he does literally no work at all. He writes "IDK" down as answers, he goes on YouTube when he isn't supposed to, he has 25 missing assignments which apparently he is just telling us he turns in when we check but really he's turning them in blank. Idk what to do to help him.

Sebastian's actually went way better than we expected. He's had issues for the past month with his Chromebook usage and ended up getting it taken away for a week. But he's been better about it since then. Most of his teachers said he is chatty in class but does quiet down immediately when asked. One teacher was like, I tried moving him to different spots in the class but he'll make friends with anyone he sits by 😂 He's doing very well in all his actual school work though it looks like he often will rush through it and could work a bit harder and excel.

But I hate these fucking Chromebooks and it sounded like the teachers were having lots of issues with them as well. We might be a bit controlling about screens/Internet for our kids but it has worked in our favor over the years. Then they go to school and get handed these laptops with the most minimal of restrictions on them! Free reign on YouTube, limited search controls, no time limit. It's so frustrating. We don't watch YouTube in our house unless Marc/myself puts it on and we pick the videos. Our kids have no social media of any kind- no Facebook, tiktok, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. All the time restrictions on TV/phones/computers/Xbox/PlayStation.

Sebastian now leaves his Chromebook at school and that's been working well. Grayson can't because he has so much fucking missing work, but he's good at leaving it upstairs in his backpack.

I want chicken nuggies. And why not both?

Mutated and virtually alone in an endless darkness. That is this game. His whole life…nothing more than a couple of numbers, made up by someone else. Someone he couldn’t even see. Someone he would never meet. But at the same time…it led him to meet you.

You let him live in your computer after he gained self control, no longer wandering in the endless dark expanse when the game wasn’t playing. Instead watching videos on YouTube about everything and anything. He’d sit on your desktop and talk with you while you played games, and even chat when you played his own game as him.

Although he couldn’t alter certain things on your computer without your permission, he was still allowed free reign over a lot of things in your computer. Even watching streams or reading the news, even surfing social media. Piers’ favorite thing to do though…is to watch cooking videos. Or even draw with your art programs.

Whenever you’re not around to talk to him, he’s playing browser games or watching videos and movies, or drawing.

But uh…be careful because he does hear you talking to your friends over the voice chat. And Piers can and will tease you about certain things, but he does get flustered when you say things about him to your friends.

My friend @kay-limbo mentioned Scooby Doo Zombie Island, and my brain went into AU mode so...

Zombie Island AU (Dark SBI edition 😘)

Twins Technoblade and Wilbur are new to the Ghost Hunter scene. They've done a few youtube videos of local ghost stories, and they gained some traction. But a few hundred views are honestly not that impressive.

They pool their resources and decide to drive a state over to investigate a ghost story that Technoblade had found online. When they get there, they investigate and find out that the whole story was actually a cover. The Local Mayor encouraged the story to hide the fact that he was trying to bulldoze an important nature reserve for profit. Technoblade and Wilbur take their evidence to the police, who do nothing.

So they post a video about it.

It goes VIRAL.

They blended the ghost story aspect seemlessly with the outrage of the Mayor's actions. It was funny, it was infuriating, it was a HIT.

Suddenly, Technoblade and Wilbur's older videos are getting views as well. They are super excited that their hardwork is paying off.

And then they get an invite to a HUGE Ghost Hunting convention on a place called Rosales Isle.

Through Techno's research, he finds legends referring to it's history of people disappearing.

Techno and Wilbur agree immediately, packing all their gear and gleefully heading to the isle.

The island is small enough that there isn't a direct flight. They take a small ferryboat out to the isle, but they aren't the only ghost hunters there. And the other ghost hunters are sort of...well, they're assholes. The other ghost hunters interview the ferryman and his crew, and they are being SUPER DISRESPECTFUL. Wilbur was trying to create connections with the others (because the other ghost hunters are much more well known), but stops when the talk turns to video editing and one of the guys talks about how he is going to play up the ferryman's accent for laughs.

Wilbur and Techno pull the Ferryman and crew aside and give them all snacks, telling goofy stories and stories of ghost hunting. Wilbur has a great time telling how Technoblade fell off a bridge into a disgusting river trying to get a wide shot. Techno retaliates with the time that Wilbur left the camera lens cap on for an entire night of filming and thought a ghost had blacked out his footage. The crew is riotously happy. And they get footage of some of the funniest and most jovial ghost stories from these guys. It's more of a party than an interview.

The crew presses amulets in their hands, for protection from the spirits of the islands. Wilbur and Techno marvel over them, asking all kinds of questions about how they were made, the history of a design, was it supposed to look like a heart or was that just a coincidence? Techno and Wilbur put them on gratefully. When they disembark on the Island, they wave happily at the crew of the Crow's Chatter as they sail away.

The historic mansion on the island is beautiful, but it is a LONG walk from the docks. Impossible to get lost, because its the only road. But it is HUMID and HOT and all UPHILL. By the time they all get to the mansion, they are exhausted. Well, most are. Technoblade is completely fine, taking pictures of some of the really cool plants "like a nerd", as Wilbur says. But Technoblade hasn't seen plants like these before.

They are met at the mansion by a smiling blonde man and his teenage son. They introduce themselves as Phil and Tommy, members of a family that had owned the home for generations. They lead everyone inside, Phil placating the irritable ghost hunters. Most are near furious that the house doesn't have air conditioning, but Phil smiles apologetically.

He explains that the convention wouldn't be held for a week, much to the anger of almost everyone. But he calmly reassures everyone that he will take care of everything. Food, boarding, and each of them will have exclusive free reign of the island to make their discoveries first before the rest of the convention arrives.

THAT calms them down. Phil starts to explain which areas they should be respectful of, as the people of the island have a rich spiritual history. But Wilbur can see the other ghost hunters collectively decide to ignore that.

A few of the ghost hunters start to immediately pester Phil for an interview, but he smiles politely and explains he is busy and it will have to be later.

Loud and obnoxious, the other ghost hunters start calling dibs on which parts of the island they are going to film first. Wilbur and Technoblade don't bother, as it seems that the other ghost hunters didn’t notice that there was ANOTHER member of the Watson family still in the room.

Or maybe the scowling deterred them, who knows? Wilbur immediately approaches Tommy and politely asks for the interview. Tommy is in the middle of telling them to fuck off before he realizes they are the guys who exposed the asshole mayor. After that he's much more curious.

They chat for a while before ever even pulling out a camera, until Tommy finally agrees after they talk about the Crow's Chatter. He seems to smile gleefully when he sees the amulets.

He gives them a great interview. The kid is hilarious and plays off Techno and Wilbur's humor well. The kid tells them all about the history of different groups invading the island, and mysteriously going missing. Technoblade makes a couple of comments about the benefits of anarchy when Tommy talks about how a few government officials had tried to pass through legislation to force them to allow a theme park to be built. Wilbur comments about eating the rich, which has Tommy laughing so hard tears are pouring from his eyes.

Phil shows up after hearing the sound of Tommy laughing himself sick and joins into the conversation. He starts telling Techno and Wilbur about the history of the island. About how the people historically worshipped the goddess of death and how she protected the isle from invasion. Technoblade asks so many questions about the religion, but backs off when Phil explains a lot of it is kept secret. Technoblade is disappointed, but tells Phil he understood. Wilbur double checks that it is okay to post the info they filmed, and Phil smiles kindly and says its fine. It's a much nicer smile than the politic one he had given the other ghost hunters.

Tommy offers to give a personal tour, since they are cooler than the other ghost hunters, and Techno and Wilbur agree. Tommy gives them a great tour. It's a ton of fun.

Until they come across another group of ghost hunters breaking a grave marker in order to make it more #aesthetic.

Tommy, understandable, flips his LID. Technoblade grabs the teen before he can go for the eyes, but Neo Trio are all three involved in a shouting match with this group of Ghost Hunters until Phil comes out to see what the fuss is about.

He sees the broken grave marker. He see's Neo Trio. He sees the smug ghost hunters. He suggests that everyone just calms down and comes inside for dinner. Its an awkward affair as all the groups come together, but Techno and Wilbur make sure to compliment to food, even as the other ghost hunters are complaining or taking unflattering footage of the food.

When it gets dark, all of the ghost hunters split up. Tommy refuses the offer to join Techno and Wilbur, but gives them some tips of where to get footage.

The ghost hunters who broke the grave marker never show up for breakfast.

It starts the mystery. Techno and Wilbur are trying to figure out what is happening. More and more asshole ghost hunters are disappearing. Strange things are happening that they can't explain.

By the time Wilbur and Technoblade figure out that Phil and Tommy are immortals, taking the life force of the people trapped there, it is too late.

Because Phil and Tommy already decided that the Twins were going to stay with them.

Forever.

Whether they wanted to or not.

AAAAA this is SO excellent!!!

Whenever I get these asks from you the only thing I can think (well, the only thing I can think *besides* thinking I'm very blessed to have such a cool person come into my inbox with their fantastic ideas) is that I want a full fic of this.

Hey, it’s me again. As I’m finishing up the script for the LGI analysis video I’m working on (which I’ve been writing as I edit), I’ve come to a point where I have to make a decision. And I want Tumblr’s input, since a lot of you are way more passionate about this stuff than I am.

The issue is, what should I do with tally 5?

Because obviously I have to talk about it, but I don’t know how far I should go. There are two things I’m sure of. I won’t put the image in the video, if nothing else so no one gets spoiled by hovering over the runtime bar, and I’ll give hints so anyone who wants to try to figure it out themselves can try.

After that comes the big question: after giving the hints, and after giving people a moment to pause and go try to figure out the code themselves, should I just say the solution? As in, just tell people how to do it step by step, and show the final string of characters you get when doing that?

Now, I’m aware the creators didn’t want us leaking the image or the code, but here’s the thing. If someone really doesn’t want to or can’t decipher the code themselves, they’re just going to look up the image, which has already been leaked in a few places. If I explain the solution in the video, at least they’ll know how we got the answer we got, instead of just pasting a code on the website or seeing the image without the reasoning.

And the people on Youtube, from what I’ve seen, generally aren’t as… obsessive, as the people on Tumblr. The most recent comments on the LGI MV video are still talking about extremely elementary stuff, and youtuber Ocean Unknown (who I love and whose videos I definitely recommend) recently claimed the “correct/incorrect” code hadn’t even been solved yet, to give you an idea of the disconnect. Most of the people there either don’t want to or don’t have the time to figure out the code.

And my video is meant to be for everyone, even the people who have remained completely separated from this kind of speculation.

Again, I will give hints first, and I will encourage people to figure out the puzzle themselves. But realistically, not everyone will. So I feel it’s better to at least explain the solution, instead of having them go and find the image with no further context.

It’s also important to keep in mind, the video won’t be out for a while. I can’t give an estimate on how long it’s gonna take, but at the very earliest it would be released at the middle/end of September, more likely around October. I’ve never been part of this type of ARG-adjacent stuff, but usually people, like, stop being secretive about this stuff at some point, right? Again, don’t know how it works, or what the time frame is to go from “don’t leak the solution” to “talk openly about the solution” usually is, so please correct me if I’m wrong.

So yeah, I’m indecisive. Just because other people leaked the code, doesn’t mean I get free reign to do it. I personally feel it’s a good compromise to give hints, encourage looking for the solution, then and only then give the reasoning for the answer, but again, I don’t feel qualified to make the final call, since I wasn’t as passionate about the code back when everyone was still trying to figure it out.

The other option is to not give the answer at all, only give the hints. And that comes with the other question: should I even talk about the image? If I give the answer, obviously yes, but even if I don’t, I feel like I still would have to talk about the image. I’ve already talked about it in other posts. But that sort of makes the whole “hiding the answer” sort of redundant, if I then just talk about it.

So I’m leaving it up for a poll. Here’s how it’s gonna work.

•Option 1 is to only give hints, don’t give the solution, and don’t even talk about the image.

•Option 2 is to give hints, but not the solution, yet still talk about the image.

•Option 3 is to first give hints, then explain the solution, then talk about the image. For this one to win, it needs to get over 50% of the vote. So I’ll only talk about the solution if most people want me to, and if they don’t, then I’ll decide what to do based on the percentages of the first two options.

Top 10 Female Characters

Thanks for tagging @solana-ceae was free today for a bit so you caught me at a nice time and it's pretty interesting and also so painful to keep it to 10, because i have probably 10 for each type media i read or watch lol. These are in no particular order and might come back someday to elaborate on some of these choices

if anyone wants to do it consider yourseves tagged

1. Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Elizabeth Bennett, is a character so beloved to me, that even after almost a decade of having read the novel, P&P remains one of my most favourite novels of all time. It was my first romance novel ever and also was my introduction to the works of Jane Austen and romance novels in general. It's also the reason i have such a fondness for regency era romance novels. I love all of her iterations in the myriad of iterations of Pride and Prejudice adaptations we've seen over the years, though i will confess my favourites are the from book (ofc), the 1995 bbc mini series (the better adaptation of P&P novel), the 2005 movie and from the web series, the Lizzie Bennett diaries, a really beautiful awesome web series that is fully available on youtube and i think is a must watch for any fans of P&P.

Elizabeth is such a beautiful vivacious woman, who was courageous, fearless enough to not settle for anything but what she wanted, and a little prideful and she is a wonderful example of how one can be unfairly prejudiced against someone because of an erroneous first impression and also not someone behaving towards you like you expected. And i loved it as a kid, still do almost a decade later, but in a lot different way than i did as a kid.

2. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series

As much as jkr's comments and my growing age seeing the pitfalls of the harry potter series made me like the actual series a lot less, but Hermione Granger still reigns supreme as my favourite character from the series (followed by Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter and the book version of Ginny Weasley, yes the book version specifically).

Hermione Granger is and will remain one of my biggest inspirations in life. She was the first character i saw that was so like me when i read it as a kid, and she made me feel ok being one of the smart girls. She's smart as heck, empathetic to the plights of others, believes in justice even when she gets made fun of for it, and totally vicious when crossed. Like it wasn't really shown in the movies, but book Hermione was low key unhinged when she was crossed and i love that for her. She's not perfect, and i love that about her.

I really wish we had her perspective on the shenanigans of the series because it would be so fascinating honestly. And honestly if i had to criticize (one) thing about her was her decision to get together with Ron at the end. It was plain and boring and for those who like her with him great for you, i don't.

3. Arya Stark from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series

She's so persevering and so determined to attain her goals, i love that for her. She's gone through a lot in her tiny life, but she's never let it beat her down ever, she always stands back up and takes names.

I hated what they did to her character in the last 2 seasons of the show (actually i point blank absolutely detest the last season of Game of thrones period so yeah) but before that i loved what she was doing, and everything.

100/10 line. Absolute banger. Very quotable. Very inspiring. Fight me if you think otherwise

4. Fa Mulan, Mulan disney movies

An absolute icon, childhood and adult inspiration to live as i want and to have the strength to do what's right and being yourself no matter what.

Also the 1998 movie has some of my favourite movie songs EVER.

5. Annalise and Erika, The Princess and the Pauper

Yes some of my favourite characters are from a barbie movie, what about it?

Love them both, 100/10 top barbie movie (along with The 12 Dancing princesses) both provided so many lessons to young me and even now are a source of comfort. Also The Princess and the Pauper has one of the best barbie movie songs, the best villian songs and i have each and every song from this movie memorised.

6. Geet from Jab We Met

She's such a comfort character now, and honestly it's hard for me to explain why i love geet so much in anything less than what is an essay lmao.

Jab We Met is honestly one of bollywood's best rom coms ever. Such a feel good story, a banger soundtrack album and the absolute sparkling chemistry between Shahid and Kareena.

She's such a bright, bubbly, vivacious character, full of life and enthusiasm you can help but be charmed by her and her iconic line "Main apni favourite hun (I am my own favourite)" is such a lovely self love line. Even when things in her life didn't work out the way she wanted it to, she soldiered on, and made the best of her situation. Her romance with aditya is so nice and so balanced man i absolutely love jab we met.

If you haven't watched Jab We Met, this is a sign that you should!! I THINK it's one of those movies even those who don't watch bollywood will enjoy.

7. Kaori Makimura from City Hunter manga and anime

She's also another comfort character whom i relate to and looking back, was also one of my first female crushes in any media lol.

She's so unapologetic to be herself, is sometimes insecure about stuff, some of which that i highly relate to, as a woman who was never into the overtly cutesy femme get up ever since i was a kid. She also grows so much as the series progresses and her partnership with Ryo is so complex and yet so simple at the same time. I love how she appreciates Ryo, the very flawed man he is, knowing he's deeply flawed but loving him anyways. And actually it's manga english translation took SO FUCKING LONG to finish istg it was a slow burn from hell. And even though the romance wasn't shown as much, the love and respect Ryo and Kaori had for each other is one of my favourite things in media.

8. Elle Woods from Legally Blonde

She's such a beautiful character who shows that it's fine to be your feminine self even if the environment around you doesn't like that. Legally Blonde is one of my comfort movies and Elle Woods is absolutely the major reason for it.

She's confident in herself and her feminity, a go getter, really intelligent and also still being kind and empathetic towards others. I really think if I'd seen this movie (and the show suits) when i was younger, there was a high chance i would've been a lawyer instead of a doctor that i am right now lmao. She's such an inspiration.

"What? like it's hard?" Absolutely banger line. This is poetic cinema at its peak.

9. Aria Roscente from The Villianess Turns the Hourglass

One of my favourites in the villianess isekai genre of manhwa. A trailblazer, an icon, an absolute legend and a trendsetter.

Aria is such a strong woman. She's also highly intelligent, but also willing to work hard for her goals. While the plot may seem contrived to give her all the things going right, she also never fails to take advantage of all the opportunities that she sees and i love her for it. (The actual villian in this manhwa is such an icon, many wish to be mielle, but you truly can't be mielle)

Aria is my favourite even if she also does a lot of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss and she will do it in STYLE and pizazz.

10. Hashimoto from Kieta Hatsukoi

She's the best girl, and honestly she's one of the best parts of Kieta Hatsukoi . She so sweet and encouraging of aoki and she's so cute, absolutely love her.

Hi. So I’m just starting to get into AEW and oh my word, please give me the deets on Orange Cassidy. I’ve been watching YouTube videos of his matches all day.

He’s got me hooked.

Welcome!! It’s never too late to get OC fever!

He’s my favourite wrestler on AEW! I think his first international reign cemented him as a top star. To me & others tor sure already knew this but i saw a shift in people’s opinions of him toward the end of his reign. I love that for him! He was defending that championship OFTEN! People thought he was just this lazy guy who wrestles and puts his hands in his pockets. There’s also the element of mind games to it and he can go all out if he needs to! Especially when it came to the international championship… you could not pry the gold out of his hands if he can help it! Poor thing. His second reign just finished I know he’s so tired! 😭

As you can tell he is fun to watch!!! No one should ever deny the amazing wrestler he is. Sometimes he moves like a sloth then other times he’s fast like a cat. 🤣 Mind you the moves he manages to pull off with his hands in his pockets are no joke.

Also this isn’t relevant but it is to me. Notice how many times he reaches over to fix his hair. It’s like he has a spidey sense for it. ✨🤣

I think any of his matches toward the end of his first reign were really fun to watch. I remember being at the edge of my seat because any time he can lose the title! He looks physically beaten up and we all know he is exhausted. But he keeps accepting challenges! And he is fighting for his life.

His match against Swerve comes to mind. One against D Garcia where Danny is WORKING our poor man’s back. The one against Penta. Watch this promo at the end. 😭 There’s definitely more. I am listing what comes to mind quickly because I have to quit procrastinating an essay due tonight.

As soon as Austin left and the guys got back, I asked them to leave Roman and I to ourselves.

Ignoring their suggestive stares and comments, I focused my eyes on my boyfriend, who didn’t meet my gaze.

He knew I wasn’t happy.

When I heard the door of the locker room click shut, I sat down on the couch, a few inches away from Roman.

‘’Austin was here.’’ Roman murmured without any doubt in his voice.

I watched as he clenched and unclenched his fist, and I rolled my eyes.

‘’Well, someone had to tell me what went down out there. Cuz you clearly didn’t care to. Even when it had to do with me.’’ I said, my tone suddenly sharp and cold.

At the sound of my voice, Roman turned to look at me, as if he had just snapped out of whatever he was feeling at that moment.

‘’What’re you talkin’ about, babe? You weren’t feeling well so I didn’t see the point in bringing any of it up-‘’ Roman started, only pausing when I held a silent hand up.

‘’I’m a big girl. I can handle myself and I can decide whether or not I wanna deal with shit that has to do with me. Can I not? Or do you see me as this dumb little girl that can’t handle herself?’’ I bombarded with accusations that seemed to fly out of my mouth by their own accord.

I don’t know why I let Austin’s words get to me, but the confirmation that something had gone down and Roman hadn’t bothered to tell me didn’t really help.

‘’… Look, why don’t we talk about this later? Let’s just get you feeling better, and we’ll talk about this.’’ Roman said.

I shook my head.

‘’Stop making it seem like I’m being irrational, Joe. It was a simple question.’’ I replied.

I shrugged and gave him an expectant look.

‘’I don’t think you’re a dumb little girl. I just think that there are certain things that you don’t need to hear. And if it bothers you that I wanna protect you from that, I’m sorry. I can’t just let some little bitch ass punk run his mouth like that about you,’’ Roman ranted.

My eyes lit up in amusement before I groaned and plopped my head down onto his thigh and I looked up at him as he stroked his hand over my hair.

‘’I can’t stay mad at you,’’ I glared playfully to which he responded by chuckling and bending to press a series of light kisses to my lips.

‘’What did he say?’’ I asked Roman once we pulled away.

I could see in his eyes that he didn’t want to tell me.

But that wouldn’t do much good.

For how much shit I was giving Roman, I needed to put my foot down.

Deep down I knew that I had been hiding behind him in some ways.

Squeezing his hand in mine and reaching up to hold his cheek with my free hand, I willed him to tell me.

‘’Babe, do you really think I don’t hear the shit people say about me simply because I’m with you? That I’m a gold digger- as if I don’t earn my own paycheck- that I’ve got Daddy issues, that I’m ridin’ your coattails… I’ve heard it all. And it honestly doesn’t bother me… But I do think that Austin needs to be dealt with. But I need to know what he said so that we can come up with a solution together. I don’t give a crap that I have a migraine- he’s a bigger migraine and a bigger pain in our ass.’’ I shrugged and Roman stared at me for a moment before he chuckled and shook his head.

The chuckle quickly died as he began to tell me in full detail, what went down outside the locker room.

I wasn’t shocked.

I wasn’t even offended.

And now that the fog that Austin tried to put in my head, had cleared, I remembered Roman was the man I loved.

Austin was… nobody.

And thinking about his behavior as of late, it was easy to see that, yes.

Austin Theory needed to be dealt with.

So, Roman and I got to scheming.

We agreed that he didn’t need to lose his job, but he definitely needed to be humbled.

That night, Theory was involved in a segment with The Bloodline, and he left in a stretcher.

The boys didn’t absolutely pulverize him, but it was enough.

It was enough for Theory to realize that neither Roman nor I were fucking around.

Roman got to settle things his way, and I got to have my say.

And everyone was happy.

Well… except Theory.

But the important thing is that he learned his lesson and once he was healed in the next few months, he apologized and began to keep his distance once again…

Game: Hakaiou: King of Crusher (PS1)

Though it was only released in Japan, a YouTube channel called NintendoComplete kindly uploaded a translated playthrough of the game and sums up its premise in the video’s description:

Shortly after his son is born, a salaryman is sitting at the kitchen table having breakfast before work. A fly buzzes around and lands on him, infuriating him to quite an unreasonable degree: he swats at it and misses, knocking his coffee cup to to the floor. As he turns purple with rage, the fly whispers to him: destroy everything. The demands of everyday life, the frustrations, the put upons: all of these things that drag you down should be destroyed if you ever want your life to be yours.

The first level is literally destroying your house as your wife flees from you. You go on to destroy your workplace, a local store, military bases, and soon enough the entire city. As your power grows you gain Altered Beast-like transformations, growing more and more monstrous in response to the growing military resistance attempting to stop you. The fly continually goads you into destroying more and more of humanity’s creations until there is nothing left; until you are finally free.

After destroying Tokyo, you fly to New York and begin wreaking havoc there as well. The final boss, naturally, is good old Lady Liberty herself, the final bastion against your wanton destruction.

“How much longer is this going to continue? What do you hope this futile desire of destroying everything will bring you?”

As you pulverize the Statue of Liberty to rubble, the game offers one final surprise: a wailing baby drops from the sky into the statue’s arms before control is handed back to you. At this point, you have a choice between two endings. If you put down the controller and allow yourself to be killed, the game ends with a flashback of your child being born, leading into the opening cutscene of the game where you sit in your home with your family, only now you successfully kill the fly and have a moment of peace with your child as your whole reign of destruction washes away like a bad dream.

If you finish off the statue (and the baby), you awake amid the ruins of your devastation, lulled by the sound of a crying infant. You run to the sound only to find some kind of devil baby(?), before the camera pulls back into the sky, up to the earth, to the solar system and beyond, leaving you alone. Underneath the credits is FMV of countless plates being smashed against the ground.

I never thought a kusoge could leave me with so many thoughts. There’s no need for this story to be anything more than a simple veneer over a game where you senselessly pummel things into pieces, and yet there is a surprising depth to it. The average salaryman protagonist is driven to insane violence not by his boss or personal woes, but by a sudden, instantaneous spark of rage incited by the devil himself. He destroys countless buildings and military personnel not for revenge, but that he might be free. And in the end, after telling you to destroy and destroy and destroy again, the game has the audacity to offer you a moral choice with no clear instruction; to finish what you’ve started or surrender yourself to uncertainty, knowing that it is the right thing to do.

Am I thinking too hard about a game where you can headbutt a vending machine into a bunch of triangles? Absolutely. But this chaotic intersection of gameplay and storytelling is something I treasure in video games. All it takes is one game developer making an otherwise straightforward game to ask the empyrean question “What if I made this profound, as a joke?”

I mean my day’s almost over in my timezone but still

I saw the thumbnail and title and went “no no nonono Tom Scott and Jocat already left I can’t have another one leave”

I could genuinely see how much YouTube had meant to him and how proud he was of the people stepping up and taking over. Matpat and game theory was my childhood of being allowed on the internet with free reign and when he said that one Rosalina video was one of his favourites I actually started tearing up because that was the first video of his I ever saw and I still remember some of the science stuff from it.

I am glad he’s leaving on good terms and I think I speak for everyone when I say he has made such an impact on YouTube and the internet as a whole that it’s hard to imagine what it would be like without him. 🩷
