Steve Scalise has withdrawn from the House Speaker race. Gym Jordan is back in the race despite the fact that he lost the last time the GOP caucus chose a candidate.
CNN spoke with GOP former Rep. Fred Upton. He basically said that he was relieved to be back in Michigan with his wife and grandkids these days.
House Republicans are meeting again on Friday afternoon. But a number of them have already stated that they would not support Gym Jordan for Speaker.
Journalist David Gregory told CNN that he expects Democrats to eventually jump in and try to work out a solution; the total GOP House shitstorm reflects badly on Congress as a whole and there's work to be done with multiple crises around the world and at home.
Republicans are simply unable to govern. At the heart of all this is Donald Trump having hijacked the party for his own purposes.
Don't let people spew bothsiderism to you about Democrats and Republicans in the House. Whether people agree with her or not, the House was infinitely better managed by Nancy Pelosi for eight years than it was by Kevin McCarthy for eight months.

WATCHING
I never cared about the "debate" about Die Hard Christmas movies. And everyone can discuss it however they like. It's got jingley Music cues and Xmas decorations on scenes/sets and takes place on the holidays.
And they're just good fun any time of the year. I can't tell you how many times I've watched the Die Hard trilogy on a weekend in March. 🤣
It makes me miss my dad, though. I've been missing him anyhow with him dying during the winter and seasonal depression... it's a fucked up combination.
My mom and I are having a good old time watching together today. I'm getting offset my depression with this kind of togetherness.🥹

On Thursday, The Detroit News reported that retired Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) is entertaining a plan to offer Democrats some degree of power sharing in the House in return for joining with a handful of GOP lawmakers to elect him Speaker of the House, in the event that Republicans fail to solve their gridlock in trying to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
According to the report, one possible offer Upton could make Democrats is an equal number of seats on House committees.
A gang of far-right Republicans has blocked McCarthy from the 218 votes he needs to be elected Speaker, leading to three failed ballots on Tuesday when the new Congress met for the first time — something that has not happened since 1923. These Republicans have demanded a number of changes to House rules that would give them more power over the caucus — which McCarthy has partially complied with, to no avail in reaching a deal with the holdouts.
So far, Democrats have been unanimous in nominating their own newly chosen House Leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). If all Democrats voted together on a compromise Upton candidacy, six Republicans would have to join them. Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) previously floated a bipartisan Upton candidacy as a possibility if McCarthy cannot secure the votes, but it is unclear whether five other Republicans would join him, or whether Democrats would be willing to accept the deal at all.
Upton, a longtime relative moderate Republican who retired at the end of last session, was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for his role in inciting the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Only two of those lawmakers, Reps. David Valadao (R-CA) and Dan Newhouse (R-WA), are in office, as the others either retired or were defeated in their primary with Trump-backed challengers.
Trump himself is still backing McCarthy for Speaker. Last night, he appeared to step back from his endorsement, but reasserted it this morning with a post on his Truth Social platform.

This, is a Nutcracker
According to German folklore, nutcrackers we given as keepsakes to bring luck to the family and protect the home. It is said that they represent strength and power and watches over the family keeping evil spirits and danger away.
They originate from ancestral dining customs where unusual, novelty nutcrackers were part of dining entertainment during the dessert course. It would generate fun conversation whilst tucking into their final course which could include pecans and hazelnuts.
Many of the early designs of nutcrackers were of birds, animals and people. It wasn’t until the 1600’s and 1700’s that they took the shape of kings and soldiers that we are familiar with today!
Nutcrackers were mainly popular in Germany to begin with, and were crafted in the Erzgebirge mountain regions.
It wasn’t until the 1800’s that this tradition was known worldwide from the release of the Tchaikovsky ballet ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ in 1892.
Many of us will have heard of this ballet and may treat ourselves to a trip to the theatre to see it over Christmas. The story of this production first came from the novel ‘The Nutcracker and the king of Mice’ by E.T. Amadeus Hoffman in the late 1700’s/early 1800’s, and is probably where we recognise the Christmas nutcracker from the most. The ballet was debuted in 1892 in St. Petersburg and is an ever popular festive treat for young and old worldwide due to its Christmassy theme.
From this point on, the ballet and German nutcracker figure have become well known around the world, and fans have demanded high quality German nutcrackers ever since. This therefore was where the nutcracker gained its popularity every Christmas time!

Ventriloquism is an act of stagecraft in which a person (a ventriloquist) speaks in such a way that it looks like their voice is coming from a different location, usually through a puppet known as a "dummy".
Ventriloquism got its start as a religious practice amongst the Ancient Greeks and Romans. The name, in fact, comes from the Latin words for “to speak from the stomach." The Greek phrase for ventriloquism was gastromancy. Ancient peoples thought that noises produced by the stomach were the voices of the dead, which could be interpreted by the ventriloquist.
During the 18th century, ventriloquism became less spiritual and more of a performance art. It gained popularity as an act at traveling fairs. The earliest records related to ventriloquism date back to 1753 in England. The father of modern ventriloquism is considered to be Fred Russell, who began a stage show in London in 1886 and developed the now-familiar technique of using a doll to engage in back-and-forth conversation.
Edgar Bergen popularized a new form of comedic ventriloquism in the 1930s with his favorite dummy, Charlie McCarthy. Over the years, there have been many famous entertainers associated with ventriloquism, including Jeff Dunham and Shari Lewis.
If you've ever tried to “throw" your voice to imitate a ventriloquist, you know it's not the easiest technique to learn. Most ventriloquists perform with their lips slightly separated to allow sounds to emanate from their mouths without moving their lips. This is easy for some sounds and more difficult for others.
For example, the sounds of the letters f, v, b, p, w, and m can be particularly difficult, because they involve the lips meeting to help form the sounds. Professional ventriloquists learn to make these sounds by replacing them with other, similar sounds and speaking quickly enough for listeners not to notice.
Fortunately for ventriloquists, the human ear is not great at locating the source of a sound without visual or other cues. Therefore, if a ventriloquist can keep from moving his lips, it's very easy to fool the human ear into believing the sound is coming from the moving mouth of the ventriloquist's dummy!
There's more to ventriloquism than simply not moving your lips, though. You also have to learn to change your voice so that it sounds different than your normal voice. Doing so allows you to have a conversation with your dummy. Professional ventriloquists develop many different personalities for different dummies, and each one requires a unique voice and way of speaking.

A bunch of spineless karens called out Jewish director Jonathan Glazer for condemned the Gaza Genocide when he won an Oscar for The Zone of Interest (a holocaust film).
A modern family producer even compared it as anti semitic like Vanessa Redgrave’s 1977 ‘Hoodlum’ speech so let me put both those speeches and you tell me where the anti jewishness is (Vanessa had started in a film called The Palestinian and after her speech a zionist bombed a theater playing it):

so funny how people haven't commonly made the connection that one of the closest people to the founder of arguably the most violently fascist ideologies the US has ever seen, McCarthyism, tutored Donald Trump personally in politics.
Roy Cohn was right there alongside senator McCarthur in the red scare fanning the flames and faded into obscurity alongside him. Fred Trump chose him to savvy the big Donald up in politics. That whole strategy of adding insults to people's names to make them stick so catchingly like Sleepy Joe and Desanctimonious Ron is a McCarthy token, one that didn't fly for long back in less treasonous times. Making his base fear the 'other side' so much to rile a sense of community and diehard fandom in them is straight up McCarthyism and im willing to bet whatever that when Don wasn't as senile he was extremely well aware of what kinda treasonous bullshit spells he was casting
