I am the person from the last ask Here's the INFO: Idia, my housewarden had made almost everyone in the Ignihyde dorm that wasn't busy or in the infirmary go through a Twitch streamer bootcamp, where we had not showered, ate 1 min microwaveable noodles(if they were available) for a week. My posture lessons are my revenge on him, and I will make this month a hell for him, I am asking if it would be OWMH or justified if I did so.

Image ID: A reply from @le-violoniste-du-diable that reads: "Why organize by date and not topic? What's the purpose? How can you find anything if it's not grouped together by subject?"
I was going to leave a reply beneath this question I got on my note-taking post, but it was getting really long, so I decided to turn it into its own post. Because these are good questions!
I recommend writing raw, in the moment notes for studying or experimentation by date instead of topic for a few reasons.
The first reason is to prevent writing paralysis and/or shame over jumping between topics or dropping a topic altogether. I find that putting a date and title on things and letting that be enough without worrying about putting something in the "right" category or making it "look good" makes it easier to focus on the notes themselves. These notes aren't for an aesthetic or even for a formal reference book. They're for me to remember what I learned or thought about on a particular day.
Which leads to my second reason. Writing in a linear fashion helps me remember things. Due to time blindness, I struggle with recognizing my progress and remembering when I did things. Taking notes in date order helps me recall when I took them and keep time on a greater scale.
The third reason is kind of twofold. I recommend writing raw notes in date order instead of by topic to prevent leaving excessive blank pages and running out of room. When I take a notebook meant for experimental notes and put page dividers or sections in, I always run out of room in one place and leave too much space in others. It's a waste of space. I can't know in advance how many notes something will take up.
If I pick up a book and reserve 20 pages to it and drop it immediately, that's 20 blank pages. See point #1 regarding shame. On the other hand, if I look briefly into a new topic that I end up fixated on, even dedicating a whole section of notebook to it might not be enough space. Then, my notes end up separated anyways.
The fourth reason is for memory reasons again. Sometimes, I want to look back on the things I researched and learned in a given year. My raw note-taking notebooks are organized by year for a reason. Once a year ends, even if the notebook isn't full yet, I start a new one. This lets me open up a notebook and read through my old thoughts in the order I had them, seeing a linear progression of my growth.
As for your questions about how to find things, that's what the titles and descriptions are for. The entry titles should be short and descriptive. "Notes about Spells" won't get you very far. "Personal Theories about Spell Paradigms" is much, much better. Not to mention, they should be large and obvious. The descriptions go into more but still brief detail, allowing easy skimming to figure out if a set of notes are the ones you're actually looking for.
The other part of finding things and linking pages is the page numbers. Anytime I cover a topic in my notes that I've written about before in the same book (or even previous ones!) or when I pick up where I left off, I reference the previous page(s). That way, I can easily find prior entries by flipping right to them. It can be time-consuming, but I find the act of physically going back and noting down where I've taken notes before forces me to get in the mindset and remember what I've already written. The physical reminder and drawing of the connection between then and now helps connect all of my thoughts coherently.
The final point I want to make is that the note-taking post specifically is not about making a grimoire. It isn't about making a formal reference document to come back to for tried and true spells or confirmed information. It's about testing things, taking down your thoughts, and learning. It isn't a textbook, it's a research log.
Confirmed, solid information you're confident in, proven spells, fleshed out theories and beliefs, and other parts of your actual practice go from the notebook into a grimoire. The grimoire should be organized by topic, definitely, since it's a reference document. Not only that, but I believe a grimoire should be in a binder, as opposed to a bound notebook.
(I have a whole post in the works about turning notes into a nice-looking grimoire; stay tuned for that at some point in the next few weeks!)
Obviously, this method isn't going to work for everyone. No single method is perfect. Hence why I stated my guidelines are extremely opinion-driven. If you prefer to take your notes directly into your grimoire or have a system already that works for you, that's great! Good for you. The purpose of the note-taking post was to help encourage people who are afraid of "ruining" a notebook or taking "bad notes" to give it a go in a structured way.
As with all advice you find on the internet, use your good judgment. If organizing by date doesn't make sense for you, don't do it. Use a binder, use a digital app, whatever you want. Take what resonates, leave what doesn't, and all that.
Thank you for asking this!! It really is a great question about information I didn't want to get into on the original post for length reasons. (:

My personal rule for monsters and non-human creatures I come up with is that they shouldn't be too conventionally attractive to humans. They should possess faces that are organized differently from human faces, or at least kinda ugly.
...I want to ask if its possible to keep [this character’s] in-human head shape yet still make the monster form look like his human form?
(Context), @chinesegal
I will say that “ugly” is an vague and subjective word, as different people will have different metrics for what constitutes an unattractive face. The word “appeal” in a character design context is a bit tricky to pin down as well, but generally speaking it refers to a character being formed in a visually pleasing way. “Appealing” doesn’t necessarily mean cute or sexy; it can, but even characters derided as ugly in-universe can have visual appeal. This is usually a matter of using curves and rounded shapes in their construction, as such organic-looking forms are naturally pleasing to the human eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Seriously, look up Hunchback of Notre Dame concept art. I’m practically crying at how good some of those drawings are. So much great anatomy and use of shape language, gawd. Also Disney’s Quasimodo fuckin’ rules and is one of the most sympathetic characters they’ve ever created imo)
Basically a character can have an unconventional appearance and still be nice for an audience to look at. I may expand on this at a later time, but for now, let’s see about that head situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something I notice right away about these heads is that the human form is quite vertical and the cranium of the monster form is slanted back, with the chin and nose jutting forward. So if we slanted the human head in the same way, maybe this could work-?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, at least he still has facial hair. Kinda confused as to why his monster form was clean-shaven. Does the ‘stache-beard combo magically dissipate when he transforms, and regrow when he changes back?? For what purpose? To hide his identity better? Because I’m pretty sure the purple skin, wings, claws, long ears, horns, tusks, and red eyes would be enough to throw folks off the scent.
If the real issue is that you find beards too attractive for the monster form, maybe don’t give one to the human incarnation-? Just a thought.
(No more follow-ups after this, please. These posts usually end up taking an hour or three to make, and it feels like two questions piggy-backing off of an initial one is more than plenty.)

Watched a video about these "AI assistants" that Meta has launched with celebrity faces (Kendall Jenner, Snoop Dogg etc.). Somebody speculated/mentioned in the comments that eventually Meta wants to sell assistant apps to companies, but that makes ... no sense.
If they mean in the sense of a glorified search engine that gives you subtly wrong answers half the time and can't do math, sure - not that that's any different than the stuff that already exists (????)
But if they literally mean assistant, that's complete bogus. The bulk of an assistant's job is organizing things - getting stuff purchased, herding a bunch of hard-to-reach people into the same meeting, booking flights and rides, following up on important conversations. Yes, for some of these there's already an app that has automated the process to a degree. But if these processes were sufficiently automated, companies would already have phased out assistant positions. Sticking a well-read chat bot on top of Siri won't solve this.
If I ask my assistant to get me the best flight to New York, I don't want it to succeed 80 % of time and the rest of the time, book me a flight at 2 a.m. or send me to New York, Florida or put me on a flight that's 8 hours longer than necessary. And yes, you can probably optimize an app + chat bot for this specific task so it only fails 2 % of the time. But you cannot optimize a program to be good at everything–booking flights, booking car rentals, organizing catering, welcoming people at the front desk and basically any other request a human could think off. What you're looking for is a human brain and body. Humans can improvise, prioritize, make decisions, and, very importantly, interact freely with the material world. Developing a sufficiently advanced assistant is a pipe dream.

In response to your Emporer Crocodile response. I had thought state based things like it's ability don't get checked in the middle of a resolution? Like how being wheeled wouldn't kill your Psychosis Crawler right?
Or am I missing a difference between those two interactions?
You're thinking of state-based actions which are only checked before a player gets priority. State triggers are a totally different thing.
A state trigger is always looking for its thing to happen, but a state-based action only checks at certain times.

I 100% agree that Donna is overhated by a lot of fans (and misunderstood)— and that much of those same fans also make her out to be this bad friend to Jackie unfairly (and ignore or downplay Jackie frequently without provocation insulting Donna) BUUUUT I also don’t think it’s fair to completely dismiss Donna not telling Jackie about Kelso’s cheating for months. Jackie disregarding a (comparatively) vague “I don’t think Kelso’s good for you” type of statement doesn’t necessarily mean she’d dismiss “Hey I saw Kelso cheat on you with Laurie, and found out from Eric it’s been going on for months” stated. Maybe Jackie would have believed her, and maybe not. But Donna not telling her (and again, saying “i don’t think a good boyfriend” is not equal to “I know he’s cheating on you”) WAS a legitimately shitty thing to do. -S
This ask is in response to this post I made.
I agree with you that Donna should have told Jackie -- along with Eric, Hyde, and Fez. I don't think the responsibility falls solely on her shoulders despite that she's Jackie's best friend in the group. Hyde's the first one who knows Kelso cheated. Then Eric and Fez learn because Kelso tells them in the circle. Donna is the last to find out (before Jackie, that is).
Together, the four of them might have been able to convince Jackie of the truth. Alone, Jackie could easily dismiss the claims any one of those four might make because of motivated reasoning -- which Jackie is shown to make decisions from in "Burning Down the House" (2x15) and in her pursuit of Hyde during their late S2-early S3 arc.
Hyde, Eric, and Fez have as much responsibility as Donna to tell Jackie the truth. At this point in the series, they're all compassionate people who have a moral code that goes beyond whether someone's personality irritates them.
Hyde, though, plays three sides in this arc: 1) setting traps so Kelso will incriminate himself so that 2a) Jackie can dump Kelso for her own good and 2b) Hyde isn't technically a "rat" and being disloyal to his friend, and 3a) is entertained by Kelso's squirmy suffering because 3b) it's a punishment Hyde feels Kelso deserves plus that's simply Hyde's dynamic with Kelso.
Fez has romantic feelings for Jackie and cares about her. If even for selfishly- reasons, he might expose the truth. But if he truly cares about Jackie, he would tell her because it's the right thing to do without any expectation of (romantic/sexual) reward.
Eric is a generally compassionate person. As we see in "The Pill" (1x17) and "Jackie's Cheese Squeeze" (4x19), he might not like Jackie personally, but he helps her (however reluctantly at first) when he sees she's in dire straights and asks for his support. The reason for his silence about Kelso's cheating stems from either cowardice, laziness, indifference to Jackie, or a loyalty to Kelso that overpowers his moral compass.
Donna is scared to hurt her friend by being the bearer of bad news. But her fear isn't totally selfless. A measure of cowardice motivates her stay silent because she anticipates exactly what happens in "Burning Down the House" except worse. In that episode, Jackie's motivated reasoning makes her accuse truth-telling Donna of being jealous of her (Jackie) and Kelso's love.
Donna knows Jackie well. But, I believe, the best kind of friends are willing to put the friendship on the line to protect the other person. The friend's well-being and safety are more important than the friendship. The risk of Jackie's anger falling onto Donna by Donna telling Jackie the truth is a real one, and it's a risk Donna should've been willing to make. That she isn't willing in "Vanstock" (2x06) and afterward tells us about her character at that point in her life -- but it's also a common choice even good friends make -- at any age.
Donna is seventeen, a teenager. Not an adult with years of experience in this area. Her fear is understandable. This doesn't excuse her decision, but it does explain it. And Eric, Hyde, and Fez aren't willing to risk Jackie's ire either.
Donna gets an inordinate amount of heat for her actions. She's often judged more harshly for her choices than other characters on That '70s Show who make similar or identical ones. I have compassion for her in the situation she's put in by learning the truth about Kelso's cheating. It's not an easy one, and in real life -- as a teenager, in particular -- many genuinely good people might make the same choice as her or take Hyde's route.
Most things in life aren't black and white. They're shades of gray and full of nuance. The position Donna finds herself in is on that spectrum. She's a person, too, with the complex, conflicting feelings humans have. She does her best to support Jackie in this situation in a way that feels safe for her to do so.
Hyde is similar, supporting Jackie by trying to help her catch onto Kelso's cheating herself.
Eric and Fez, meanwhile, do nothing to support Jackie until she spots Kelso kissing Laurie -- and then only Eric (briefly) offers true support. Fez tries to use the development for his romantic advantage.
Again, I'm not excusing Donna's choice. But I understand it, and viewing it in isolation from Hyde, Eric, and Fez's choices unfairly puts the burden of full responsibility on her head and absolves them of theirs.

Apparently, people liked this post (AKA the idea that Wars is in pretty rough shape after his game and Mask is forced to go home before he sees Wars recover, so he lives for years not knowing if he died or not).
I'm giving it an honest try. Not promises but it's over 1.5k words so far. Maybe I'll do a WIP at the end of the week or something, depending on how it's coming.
But yeah, I'm trying!

Over the Hedge modern voice cast
Tumblr media
Hypothetically, if DreamWorks did a sequel, follow-up or reboot of Over the Hedge that half of us wanted, I think this could be the voice cast they could have with the characters. While Steve, Wanda, Avril, Eugene, Catherine, and Omid could reprise their roles, I think the best vocal replacements for Bruce, Garry, and William are Jason Sudeikis, Patton Oswalt, and Maurice LaMarche respectively. After Kevin Michael Richardson's name got billing on the poster and the teaser of the new Mario film and Frank Welker got billing on Scoob, we might as well be giving billing to all voice actors now. They deserve it after being overshadowed by big movie names for so long!

I once had a landlord offhandedly mention that his mother had set this house on fire before. He and his wife lived on the first floor, and i rented the third.
Apparently his mom didn’t like his wife. So she set their house on fire. The house i was living in.
He assured me that everything was fine now and that this was years ago, just kinda laughed, smiled, and said ‘You know how moms are’
Yes. I know how moms are. I know how fucked up moms are as well. I have known many fucked up moms and fellow children of fucked up moms.
Attempted murder through arson is not typical mom behavior, even for a fucked up abusive mom
Oh, and his mother lived next door 🙃

Revenge on the Cancer Chronicles
New Blog Release: Revenge on the Cancer Chronicles Say you're a cancer survivor, without saying you're a cancer survivor. #linkinbio #cancer #cancertreatment #radiation #cancerfighter #healingjourney #inspirational #health #lifelessons #cure #darkplace
Say you’re a cancer survivor, without saying you’re a cancer survivor I hadn’t anticipated writing anything personal today as I’ve tired of opening up about my life after someone told me I was ‘hypersensitive’. Then I remembered the others, like Natalia, who if you knew her entire story, would be heartbroken. Or Tracy, whose has more strength than anyone I know. I couldn’t imagine labeling…

Ok the Torbran + Solphim situation, why is the affected player considered to be the one taking the damage and not the one controlling the source of the damage that is being modified?
Because that's the player the damage is affecting. They're the one being targeted or attacked (or the controller of the permanent that is.) The spell, ability, or permanent dealing the damage isn't. It's the difference between the subject and object of the action.
