uhh idk if u ship this, but there's been a vague uptick in people liking keefex, so keefex for number 4?
Please bear in mind that this is literally the first fic I’ve ever written, so I’m open to constructive criticism!
Keefe sighed, staring at his alarm clock waiting for it to go off. Due to nightmares about Mother Dearest, he had woken up at the ungodly hour of 3:16 AM. And he had been awake since then, drawing various versions of periwinkle blue eyes that he could never seem to get out of his head. Eventually, the multiple hand cramps he’d gotten made him give up. So here he was, lying in bed a 3:55 AM, waiting until the clock said it was go-time.
Okay, maybe he was sulking a bit, too.
However, he told himself to stop feeling sorry for himself, and instead focus on the prank that would make the Great Gulon Incident look amateur. There really was nothing to focus on now, however, as it had been planned weeks in advance. All that he really had to worry about now was putting on black clothes, getting his end of the supplies packed up, and getting to Foxfire. “Screw this”, he muttered to himself. He turned off the alarm clock so his dad wouldn’t wake up when it DID eventually go off, dressed in all black, threw a backpack over his shoulder, and leaped to Foxfire. Dex wouldn’t mind if he was a little early, right?
When the glitter from the leap faded, Keefe saw the colorful pyramid that was Foxfire Academy. He pulled his backpack off of his shoulders and dug around for the keys that would open the back doors. Finally finding them, he started his trek to the back of the school, looking for any devices that might see him. He knew he didn’t have to look out for anything, however, because Dex had his back. Before he went to sleep, he programmed all motion-sensory devices to see the Foxfire grounds untouched like they were every night. Maybe Keefe was just so used to doing things like this by himself without amazingly talented and cute Technopaths.
He entered the key into the keyhole and just as he was about to open the door-
“BOO!” A familiar voice said exclaimed, Keefe sprang away from the door and screeched a sound that sounded like how a murcat might scream if they had voices. When he regained something close to composure, his vision was met with Dex Dizznee, his boyfriend, trying to keep himself upright from the laughter.
“Traitor!” Keefe insisted, trying to get his usual swagger back. “If this is betrayal, I’ll never stop doing it, that was the best thing I’ve EVER seen!” Dex countered through giggles. Keefe rolled his eyes, pretending to be annoyed instead of obsessed with Dex’s laugh. He knew he didn’t have to pretend, as it was just the two of them, but old habits die hard.
Then Keefe got an idea. And his ideas were always the best, right?
When Dex finally quit giggling, Keefe pounced on him and smashed their lips together. Dex made a startled noise in the back of his throat, but then started giggling while sinking into the kiss. Eventually, Keefe started laughing right along with him. Dex’s laughter was infectious. Keefe pulled away eventually, deciding his revenge tactic was unsuccessful.
“Why is my revenge so funny to you?” Keefe asked, in a fake accusatory voice. “Oh nothing, I was just thinking about that talk you gave to me yesterday about not getting distracted during the prank.” Dex said through giggles. Well, he had Keefe there. “Yeah, yeah, let’s go in and get started before all of the Lost Cities hears you.” Keefe bantered. “If that screech of yours hasn’t already woken everybody up.” Dex muttered, but Keefe heard. Keefe didn’t mind. He knew he’d do anything to get Dex to laugh like that again. However, Keefe and Dex were on a mission to make the most unforgettable prank ever. So maybe he wouldn’t have to wait so long for Dex to laugh again, as when the staff and prodigies came, they would get quite the show.

KotLC one shot
*deep inhale* I’m back people! I actually wrote part of this fic as an assessment for my English class lol. I added a lot more flourishes (and I mean a lot, this used to be one sheet of A4) and actually ended it properly! I’ll put it on ao3 at some point but I do not have an account! Once my request goes thorough, i’ll put it on there :). It’s a mix of Sophie ANGST (we love our angsty girl tho!) and some sokeefe fluff :3 (he is soo protective of her, it’s adorable). It’s also Sophie’s POV (first person) fyi :) Anyway, enjoy!!
We were in flames. Again. I could almost hear fintans cruel laugh as he leaped away. The never seen Crystal he and Ruy used was still here somewhere but it would have to wait. I turned to the flames again. And that’s when they hit. Flashbacks of Oblivimyre, San Diego, Verdi and I in the Everblaze and pain. So, so much pain. Old burns reawakened and I screamed, unable to stop myself from returning to that place. Black obscured my vision and my panic flared higher. The tiny coherent part of my brain was thankful that I refused to let Dex come with us. The harsh memory of burns climbing my arms felt like new even though Mr Forkle had done so much to repair them. For all I knew, they could be real and I could have been engulfed by the roaring orange fire. Another scream fell from my lips and I thrashed, trying to rid myself of bonds that hadn’t touched me for months.
A soft, blue breeze streaked across my consciousness but it wasn’t enough. The shade of blue was almost exactly the same as Fintan’s trademark, balefire and it only racked by body with more panic, pain and fear. More blue breezes ran across my mind, this time tempered with green and building to a gale pulling me together. It wasn’t a destructive hurricane, but a mending one, pulling me together and finally clearing my vision from the blackness. My frantic screams eased as did my trashing although I still trembled fiercely, fighting to keep the monster inside at bay. I cursed myself for letting Flori stay at home before remembering that Grady and Edaline would be left unprotected should she have left.
Tears ran through my eyelashes, coming thick and fast as the monster replayed more terrifying scenes from my past. Eternalia falling, Oblivimyre again but this time when we found Kenric missing, Oralie, Forkle’s death and Keefe running away. That’s what hurt most.
‘He left you’ the voice in my head whispered ‘He left you and didn’t care that you nearly shattered. He only pretends to care to take advantage of you.’
More sobs shuddered through me and the teal breezes could only do so much. Everything was a blur, but why could I not feel rough, painful asphalt beneath me? Now I was a little more focussed, my head began to clear and I could hear something. A name. My name.
‘Foster. Foster. FOSTER. FOSTER. FOSTER PLEASE. PLEASE SOPHIE. Sophie snap out of it, please. SOPHIE! FOSTER! LADY FOS-BOSS! Foster come on, wake up!’
I could feel shaking hands now, holding me. One on my back, one clutching my ungloved hand. At last, my eyes cleared properly and I could see. Keefe leaned over me, worry and fear distorting his features as he cradled me. He somehow still managed to look amazing, even while terrified and panicked.
‘Keefe?’ I whispered hoarsely.
‘Sophie. Thank the stars. I thought-‘ his voice broke. ‘I thought I lost you again.’ He sounded so scared and almost heartbroken. ‘Never mind. I knew it was a mistake letting you come here with- with him. Come on, I’m taking you back to Havenfield.’ Keefe sounded angry now. Protective. He started to pull me properly into his arms, as if he knew I was too weak to support myself.
‘No. Keefe, stop. I’m not going back home yet. I have to help. There could be humans here, I have to save them. The never seen don’t get to kill people just because I can’t handle a bit of fire like a weak little girl.’ I protested weakly but the determination in my words was there.
Keefe’s jaw locked. ‘You are in no shape to go rushing around saving people. Now, I don’t know what just happened but I do know that it was their fault. I didn’t know whether you would snap out of it, Sophie! You were thrashing around with your eyes wide open and screaming. It was all I could do to keep you from falling and hurting yourself more. And don’t say that you’re fine. I’m an empath, remember. I can feel everything you’re feeling right now and there were a few minutes where I didn’t know whether the panic and guilt would consume you. Let me help you for once. I’m trying to keep you safe and NOT SHATTERED’ he shouted the last words and I could see the regret in his eyes as I flinched.
‘They don’t get to control me, Keefe. I can take care of my own sanity. I know my limits.’ I was stronger now, the breezes he was still sending me helped too. He was right though, I was still shaking badly and I likely needed medical attention based on the pain I could feel blossoming in my arm and head. Either way, pain or no pain, I was still conscious so I was still able to help in some way.
‘Foster, you can’t keep doing this to yourself. You’ve been working yourself to the ground these past few weeks and I can tell you haven’t been sleeping either.’ He was right, of course. The nightmares had been unbearable and anytime I tried to sleep they always woke me within the hour. My dark circles definitely were in a league of their own despite the makeup I had been applying to cover them and not worry anybody. Keefe could always tell.
‘And the way you just looked away from me confirms it. Sophie, please, you need to rest. You need Elwin. I’m guessing you’ve been avoiding him so that he wouldn’t notice how little you’ve been sleeping? I know it’s hard but please, you have to take care of yourself before you can save everyone else. And before you say anything, Marella is trying to contain the flames now and Fitz hailed Alden. He should be here any second with quicksnuff (?) and frissyn. The humans will be safe. You need Elwin’ he repeated. I hadn’t noticed before but fear was laced through his words. Keefe was scared. But for what? And then it clicked. He was scared of losing me. That made me feel even worse, I hated people worrying because of me.
I hid behind my hair, embarrassed.
‘No. I have to stay, make sure that we didn’t miss anything. I’m not letting innocent humans  be in danger because of me. And I thought you would understand, Keefe, I can’t let them control me like this! I can’t be just a defenceless little moonlark who collapses every time she sees fire.’ I replied, aware of how insufferably stubborn I was being.
Keefe sighed mixed with an annoyed growl in the back of his throat. He did know, though. So he helped me back up to my feet and held me close, tenderly kissing my forehead. ‘I’m taking you straight to the healing centre after this, my stubborn Lady Fos-Boss.’
This time, I sighed ‘Fine, Lord Hunkyhair.’
Keefe cracked a smile at that. It was small, but enough. Strength suddenly coursed through me and my knees buckled slightly. Keefe curled his arm around my waist and looked around to see who was responsible.
‘Don’t worry, it’s just Fitz. He’s sending me a bit of energy.’ I said to calm him.
Keefe nodded.
I heard running footfalls behind me and I turned, throwing stars already in hand, half expecting to find another member of the never seen or a rouge ogre.
Fitz smirked as he slowed to stand by us.
‘Did I miss the Sokeefe snuggle fest?’ He teased.
It relaxed me to see him joke about me and Keefe.
‘Aww, do you feel left out Fitzy? Come here, I’ll give you a cuddle,’ Keefe replied, leaning towards him but not letting go of my hand.
Fitz laughed and took a step back ‘Noo way loverboy! Dad will be here in a minute, he’s trying to find a crystal where we are. Sophie, I’m guessing you have quicksnuf?’
I handed him the cube that I’d forced Dex to make me after our last disastrous training session. Thank goodness for Sandor’s quick thinking.
Fitz’s smile faded as he noticed something on my arm. ‘Uhh, what happened?’ He said, gesturing to my right arm.
‘What do you mea-‘ I glanced over at my arm and saw a bruise the size of my face covering my forearm. ‘Whoa. Keefe, I think I get why you were freaking out now.’
Fitz scrunched his brow ‘Why was Keefe freaking out? He never freaks out?’
Keefe raised his eyebrows and glanced quickly at me.
‘Oh. I’ll ask later.’ Fitz mumbled. ‘Anyway, Marella is trying her best but the fire won’t obey her and she doesn’t know why.’
I cursed. ‘Of COURSE he thought of everything. Ughh! Fitz, throw the cube, would you?’
He nodded and hurled the box right into the middle of the inferno.
Powder exploded everywhere and a disgruntled screech sounded from the flames.
All three of us winced as Marella shouted ‘YOU COULD HAVE WARNED ME IDIOTS!’
‘Sorry!’ I called back. It wasn’t all bad though, the raging flames were finally calming.
‘Thank god the quicksnuff worked’ I whispered, leaning against Keefe.
‘And now, we are going to Elwin.’ He said, gently pulling me closer and planting a kiss on my forehead.
‘Ughh fiiiiiine’ I groaned, but I didn’t move this time.

“Dex,” Keefe says, soft as the perpetual gentle whirrs of the noisemaker that keeps Dex’s room from being overstimulating or understimulating, broken as the mirror Vespera threw Biana through.

Say what you want about stellarlune but I’m glad sokeefe’s first kiss was in a controlled environment. I’m glad Sophie planned her confession. I’m glad there’s romance in books for kids that paints a realistic portrayal of what it looks like to resolve your feelings. You can create the right moment and go for it and that’s what Sophie did. The whole thing was very mature and it was exactly what the two of them deserved…. Time to themselves, just them in a romantic glen, being clear about their feelings for each other and feeling all giddy inside. They deserved it and I’m glad they got it.
I do think at some point in the next book, along with more fluffy Sokeefe ofc, they have a we’re-about-to-die-last-moment-kiss. Like “just in case I never see you again” *passionate kiss except written for twelve year olds* I think some kind of epic moment like that would also be amazing for Sophie and Keefe. Something like a percabeth’s first kiss even, where she pecks him on the lips for luck bc she doesn’t know if they’ll make it out alive.
But I’m glad we got the first thing. It was a good move on Shannon’s part and Sokeefe deserved that moment <3

Keefe Sencen!!
me being active? shocker! anywaysss
KEEFE YAAAAAAAAAY i love keefe he cracks me up. i stay away from the ship wars and the whole fitz vs keefe thing, i think they're both good characters with flaws and it is up to you who you enjoy/root for. he is hilarious and i love his silly little coping mechanisms (totally not projecting on him lately). his trauma is rlly important to me and i don't think of him that much but if i had to choose who im most similar to it's him fs. he is definitely flawed as a person, but that's what makes him relatable just like all the other characters. also me and him are kind of twins. blonde styled/fluffy hair, blue eyes, art kid, burnt out gifted, severe mommy issues, same coping mechanisms, immature. yeha i love keefe 🕺 .... hc time ig?
i don't rlly think of him a lot, so these headcanons are pretty impulsive
-bisexual (before the whole sophie love triangle thing i thought him and fitz were 💏. irdk man)
-purposely gets hairspray on his bathroom mirror to make a mess for his dad
-has spent the entire day, multiple times, just trying out new hairstyles (he ultimately decided nothing will outdo The Hair)
-brings a marker everywhere and doodles on ppl, himself, papers etc
-trashes his room when he's mad (also bc of the satisfaction of knowing cassius hates it)
-likes finding little trinkets that remind him of the ppl he cares about
-ik this is random but he has the stupidest funky-pattern socks. he just radiates "i love wearing stupid looking vibrantly colored socks under my monotone outfits" vibes
-freckled keefe when guys like im begging
-avid fan of human fashion magazines (he likes making fun of outfits he doesn't like and draws ppl he thinks r pretty/unique)
-has used bianas makeup and found himself hot (struck a pose in the mirror then audibly gasped when alden walked in to ask if he was staying for dinner)
ik these r random but...idk. it's like midnight and this is on a whim

version where Keefe agrees to stay in Jolies old room after Edaline offers. His eyes get misty when Sophie and her mom walk him in and help him get settled. He cries a little when they leave to let him change and get comfortable. He comes out in these human pajama pants and a black t-shirt and Sophie decides to focus on that and not his slightly red and puffy eyes.
They sit in the couch and Edaline brings them something sweet and a few more bottles of youth. Grady watches from the kitchen with soft, sad eyes.
He thanks her parents and apologizes for all the trouble he’s causing and they wave it away. They say things about how it’s not a problem and that they’re just happy he’s safe and back. He gets a little misty eyed again. After food and only slightly awkward silence, Grady mentions that they should definitely try to sleep. It’s late, and it’ll be easier to talk after some rest.
They go upstairs together and Sophie pushes past her anxiety and grabs his hand as they walk. Neither of them say anything, but he hugs her at the top of the stairs.
She wonders if it’s her awareness of his feelings for her, or if it’s her mutual ones, but she can’t find it in herself to be mad at him. Not when his face is buried in between her neck and shoulder, not when he holds her like he’s trying to make up for everything that happened, not when he stands in front of her looking like a boy. It hits her again that he’s not much older than her, and he’s still incredibly young be elven standards.
She’s sure she’ll be mad again in the morning, or even later tonight, but for now this quite comfort works. She is beyond relieved he’s home with her.
She walks with him to his room. She stands beside him as he gets in the bed and she flicks of the lights for him when she goes to leave.
He calls her. Asks her to stay. She immediately agrees.
She runs downstairs to tell her parents, her dad looks like he’s about to start a very uncomfortable lecture, but her mom cuts in after meeting her eyes and tells her she thinks it’s a great idea.
She runs back to her room to grab some pillows, Ella, and another blanket.
Keefe watches her walk into the room. He’s still laying where she left him, it makes her slightly less worried. His eyes are big, almost childish, and again she can’t help but think he’s just a boy. And he doesn’t deserve to feel like this. She’s mad, but not at him.
He stops her from setting up a spot on the floor near the bed. She’s confused. They fuss about it for a minute before he pulls back the blanket and just says, “please”.
She caves and brings herself to lie down next to him. He’s close, they can feel the heat off each other, and for the first time she’s glad he can’t sense her emotions as much.
They stay like that for a while, on their backs with their respected stuffed animals in their arms. It’s dark, her parents have gone to bed, and they’re both ignoring the quite sniffles coming from both sides of the bed.
After what seems like forever he rolls over to look at her. She turns her head to meet his eyes. “Turn that way” she says, and he does what she asks without question.
Carefully she turns toward his back. She’s anxious again, but confident that this is something they need. She places Ella behind her back and tentatively wraps her arms around Keefes waist.
He tenses for a bit, then let’s out a quite sob. He shakes in her hold for a while, but he never lets go of the grip on her hands.
When he does calm down, he brings their intertwined fingers up, and he presses the back of her hand to his face.
She can’t really call it a kiss, per say, but his skin is warm and his lips are definitely against her skin. She buries her face in his back, and their legs tangle below the fluffy comforter.
They sleep, after days of nightmares and restlessness, they sleep. It’s long, it’s not enough, but it’s peaceful because neither one of them dreams.
The next day will be hard, it’ll be full of hurt and tears and words that are going to sting, but right now, right now and everything that will happen after, it makes it all worth it.

I've been wondering this, but does Sokeefe give you more black cat and golden retriever vibes?? And if so, who is who?? Or are the two of them also both either the sun or moon?? Sorry if I worded this weird. But I'm trying to pinpoint their both their respective energies and how they affect and correlate the other.
Keefe's a Golden Retriever, Sophie's a black cat. He's fluffy and he's an idiot but he'll put his head in her lap and she'll pet his hair. She's emo and edgy. And also. She'll cut you if you look at her boyfriend wrong.
Also, Sophie is the sun, Keefe is the moon.
Why? The sun is bright but it's intimidating. It's so important that nothing would function without it. But the moon is just. Lonely. And it's constantly staring at the sun, shining because the sun blessed it. It's harder to look away from.

☁︎⎸⎸“𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭.”⎸⎸☁︎
Tumblr media
A/N: We all need a little more Sokeefe in our lives. Here's my masterlist! Dividers by @cafekitsune
Warning(s): Angst, fluffy ending, slight spoilers, mentions of anxiety, I think that's it.
Pairing(s): Sophie Foster x Keefe Sencen
Tumblr media
The rain was soft as it pattered against the steps of the Shores of Solace. It was quiet, but the silence wasn't uncomfortable, as Sophie and Keefe sat on the small porch swing that gently rocked back and forth, the small creaks from the chains putting them both at ease.
"Foster." he says, breaking the silence.
Sophie looks over at him, breaking out of her peaceful reverie. "Hm? she hums.
"Am I still...me?" he hesitates, and Sophie catches a glimpse of the broken boy she saw all those years ago.
She stays silent for a minute, mulling over the question, as she reaches over to squeeze his hand.
"How so?" she finally asks.
"Am I still Keefe Sencen? Not just some plan my amazing mom has for me, but am I me? Or am I just truly destined to be apart of this legacy?" he whispers, his stomach knotting as he awaits her answer.
Sophie looks at him, her heart heavy. It broke her to see him like this. Keefe didn't deserve this pain.
"You're more than that Keefe. You're a strong, funny, and kind person who never fails to calm me down. I... I don't think I would've made it this far if you hadn't been by my side. And your hair isn't terrible either." she smiles teasingly in an effort to lighten the mood.
He chuckles, a bittersweet sound. "I guess it is pretty impossible to look this good." he winks.
They sit there in silence again, hands entwined this time. And then Sophie reluctantly leans her head into the crook of his neck, finding comfort in his warmth.
But most of all finding comfort in the fact that he was here.
And that she would be here for him.
"Those who wander are not lost."
And she knew that.
"You must be lost."
Because Keefe found her.

The Song Twins & Keepblr Characterization
@arson-anarchy-death @camelspit Sorry for my lateness!
Avi Cogaytes Professor Spit Roisin's Reading Rumble #3 16 July 2023
The Song twins are fan-favorite characters in the online fandom for Keeper of the Lost Cities, a middle grade fantasy book series by Shannon Messenger, present in roughly 30% of fanfictions posted on Archive of Our Own and popular on blogging website Tumblr. However, their characters are often misinterpreted by the fandom due to a combination of racial stereotypes and sometimes a lack of nuance. Despite the popularity of certain portrayals of the Song twins, several popular ways of seeing them actually have little to not basis in canon.
In Keepblr, Tam is often seen as "emo" and someone who represses his true feelings. Multiple posts have described him as "bottling up" his emotions. However, Tam is explicitly angry from the very first time we see him on the page (not counting the shadow-whispering). All of the words used to describe him and his speech are harsh: "demanded," "spat," "defiant stare." Clearly, he isn't trying to repress or bottle up this anger, since it influences how he speaks and interacts with the others. He also visibly expresses his emotions several times during that conversation; he "blinked several times" and his "jaw fell open" when Mr. Forkle offered them a place to stay, in addition to blushing when Keefe brings up the Foster Fan Club (Neverseen). From very early on in his introduction, it becomes clear that he is not actually trying to hide his feelings, and in fact his reactions are often easy for Sophie to pick up on. When Keefe is revealed to be a traitor, Tam "wiped tears from his silvery eyes" (Neverseen); he is clearly unafraid to display emotions and not repressed the way the fandom seems to see him. This also relates to him being seen as "emo"; people described as emo tend to hide their emotions and act more stoic. He's been labeled as a "dramatic emo" in one post, and is called that often by other posts in general. In canon, however, he's sensitive and expressive, a good friend who comforts Keefe after he leaves by reminding him that he isn't worthless (Nightfall), and does not try to hide his emotions or reactions in his facial expressions. This is not the other extrapolation about Tam often taken from canon.
Another popular headcanon of Tam is that he is queer and/or transmasculine. There are numerous posts dedicated to this headcanon, one in particular saying that Tam "[screams] gay" and the poster "can't see [him] liking women." They say that Tam having a crush on Keefe is "basically canon at this point," when there is actually zero canonical basis for this; other than banter they have no romantic subtext at all. He is also not shown to have any bodily dysmorphia or discomfort with masculinity or femininity that might hint to a transgender identity. Neither of these headcanons have basis in the text, no matter how popular they are. Rather than canon, these headcanons are likely based in racial stereotypes; elaboration about how this opinion may have come about can be found here. Tam's twin also undergoes similar fandom treatment, where she is portrayed as soft and sweet (as Asian women often are) rather than dimensional the way she is in canon.
Linh is seen as "fluffy" and has no backbone. In fanon, she's described as: "a push over," so sweet she's "a toothache of diabetes," "feminine and small and controllable," "quiet and reserved" "compassionate," a "smile through the trauma character." But in canon, she's not afraid to make waves or be defiant; she destroys Ravagog in a flood (Neverseen) and considers herself grateful for the power that allowed her to do that (Lodestar), showing her autonomy. She's defiant to her parents, telling them "Respect has to be earned" (Lodestar) and turning her back on them. She argues with her brother instead of burying her feelings of discomfort with his behavior (Stellarlune). She's willing to share about her vulnerabilities as well, telling Sophie "I've often wondered if I have more power than I should" (Lodestar). All of this in canon gives her significantly more dimension than the fluffy, stoic character she's described as in fanon.
As stated before, these portrayals are likely due to typecasting rather than actual canon. Asian men are often seen as more feminine and therefore queer or trans; they are usually stereotyped as either very "soft" or repressed about their emotions. This stereotype may have contributed to how widespread this opinion became despite the way Tam clearly emotes in canon. Asian women are also viewed as sweet, sensitive, and uncomplicated in media, while bottling up their emotions for others' convenience; unlike that stereotype, Linh has autonomy and is willing to both express herself and be defiant. Despite this, however, portrayals like the ones cited above remain unfortunately common. Members of Keepblr, therefore, should examine their perceptions of the Song twins to ensure that their headcanons have a canonical, rather than stereotypical basis.

when joseph came home from a game at almost eleven thirty at night, he most certainly wasn’t expecting to be met with her sitting by the door to his apartment with her knees up to her chest and her eyes zoned into nothingness. she’d been crying, and he didn’t know what to do.
“what’re you doing here, sweetheart? how long have you been sitting here?” she snapped out of her trance, pushing his arms away from her instinctively and shaking her head gently.
“woah, woah, i didn’t mean to scare you, it’s just me” she stopped swatting at him, staring at him with her mouth agape as she calmed her shaky breaths. he smiled sadly, guiding her onto her feet and through his front door.
“i’m sorry, i know you had a game. i didn't know where else to go” joseph shook his head, moving over to the kitchen as she followed meekly behind him.
“don’t apologize, honey. it’s alright, you know you can come here anytime. have you eaten? i’ve got some leftovers, but i can order takeout, or we can make something” she sat herself on a chair by his island, his words mostly going in one ear and out the other until he grabbed her hand and rubbed over her knuckles gently.
she squeezed his hand back, eyes staring in front of her once again, he was talking, asking questions, but she could hardly hear him through the ringing of her ears.
tears were falling down her face rapidly, and she had given up on trying to blink them away. joseph stopped talking, just kissed her on the head and ordered some takeout he knew she’d like.
finally, she looked up at him, making eye contact with him for the first time that night.
“i don’t really want to talk about it, j. if that’s okay” she whispered and he nodded, moving the front layers of her hair out of her face and kissing her forehead again.
“that’s okay, sweetheart. do you want to stay here tonight? i’ll stay on the couch, yeah? and you can have the bed. i’ve got that marlies hoodie you like in the dryer, too” she tried to smile at him, but it turned into sobs faster than she could even form her lips.
she buried her head into his chest and gripped onto his shirt, letting out a deep, shaky breath that made her voice sound raw and pained. joseph bit the inside of his cheek to keep himself from crying as well, trying his best to focus on making her feel better rather than how he was feeling.
“you’re not alone. i’m staying right here” he shushed her gently, cupping the back of her head and rubbing her back. his phone buzzed with a notification from doordash, and he cursed himself, wishing he’d have waited to order the food.
“i ordered us something to eat, sweetheart. you want me to go get it? i think it’d be good for you to eat something. i’ve been gone for hours, don’t know how long you’d been sitting there” she nodded softly, reluctantly pulling her hands from his shirt.
he got up to go to the door, but she followed close behind him. he held her hand, kissing her head and pulling the food out from the other side of his door as quickly as possible.
“let’s watch a movie, yeah?” he brought her over to his living room, putting the tv on and giving her the remote to pick something for them to watch. she snuggled into his side and scrolled through his netflix account, choosing something she’d already watched before.
after she had eaten, her breathing slowly calmed and she had been nodding off on joseph's shoulder, fingers tightly gripped into his shirt and tears staining his sleeve.
he hadn’t been paying attention to the movie, only to her. he was endlessly glad that she had finally caught her breath and seemed to be okay. tomorrow he could ask more questions, help her more valuably. but for now, this was more than he could ask for.
she was safe, she was in his arms, and hopefully sometime soon she would be comfortable again.
he didn’t dare move her, so he fell asleep the way he was, and the next morning they woke up, her eyes were puffy and her neck was sore from the position, but joseph was still there and that was all she cared about.
“j?” he hummed, morning voice showing through the low noise, and she smiled.
“thank you for taking care of me,” his eyes finally opened, and he was upset to see her eyes bloodshot, but he had been expecting it.
“of course, sweetheart,” he kissed her head, and she moved her head up slightly, connecting their lips.

Keeper of the Lost Cities: Forevermore (Chapter 2)
“Have you noticed Biana?” Dex asked Sophie as they walked in Foxfire together.
“I notice her a lot. Her sparkly clothes stand out.” Sophie smirked, hugging her books to her chest.
“Well, yeah. But she’s been acting…weird.” Dex whispered the last word.
Sophie thought about it. Biana had always been calculating. She could be difficult to read at times. But the youngest Vacker was one of Sophie’s closest friends, despite their tough past.
“Maybe she’s nervous about Gisela or something?” Sophie suggested.
“Isn’t everyone?” Dex sighed.
All her friends had, of course been shaken up by the recent events. Though, Biana wasn’t too involved. In fact, Sophie often worried that she felt left out. But Biana seemed…relieved. Relieved to not have been in the midst of everything. Sophie selfishly wished she could be in Biana’s place.
“I’m sure she’s alright. She always pulls through.” Sophie told him, “As Alden would say, “There’s no reason to worry.” She smiled, hoping the joke would make Dex lighten up a bit.
But Dex still had a worried look and his eyes as he replied, “I guess you’re right.”
Sophie sure hoped she was.
She didn’t want another one of her friends to be affected by everything.
“Well,” Sophie sighed, “I’ve got to get to alchemy. I’ll see you at lunch.”
“Bye.” Was all Dex told her.
Weird.
He didn’t even reminder her not to blow up the school, which was a classic.
When Sophie got to her alchemy class,
Her mentor told the class they would be making an elixir using Reekrods.
“Ugh, seriously, I could do without the stink.” Stina scrunched her nose.
“Ms. Heks,” her Mentor said, “While some ingredients might be unconventional, they’re quite important.”
Sadly, Sophie had to side with Stina. “What elixir are we making?” She asked.
“Brainrock. It’s important if someone were to be, let’s say, possessed.” Her mentor explained.
“Possessed?” Sophie’s eyes widened.
“Well, the nobility doesn’t think about possession too much. No elf has been possessed for years.”
“Then why do we have to learn to make an elixir for it?” Stina wondered.
“With all the disruption in the Lost Cities lately..” he glanced at Sophie, “It is better to be prepared.”
“You think the Neverseen will posses somebody?” Sophie had to ask. Usually she tried to refrain from talking about the rebels at school. But she could use all the information she could get.
Her mentor turned paler and licked his lips.
“You…never know.” Was all he said.
A new threat.
Possession.
Sophie wondered what it would be like.
She’d seen how it looked from human movies.
Creepy white eyes and levitation.
She thought it would be unreal. But who knows? So far, many things have proven to be true in the Lost Cities.
What if that was the power Lady Gisela would create? It sounded…dangerous.
And Keefe’s mom screamed dangerous.
Stina must have noticed Sophie’s flood of worry because she asked, “You good, Foster?” Making her snap out of her thought train.
“Yeah I’m fine.” Sophie said as the bell rang for transition.
“Well…” Stina slung her school bag over her shoulder, “Don’t think too hard, alright?”
Sophie nodded, “I won’t.”
But that really wasn’t a promise someone like her could make.
The first half of the school day dragged by slowly. Sophie spent most of her time in fluffy dreams and then fell asleep in Elvin History. Her face was so red with embarrassment after getting woken and scolded. And then on top of that, she hurt her ankle in PE.
When Sophie got to the healing center she asked Elwin about possession.
“Woah, haven’t heard about that in a while.” Elwin laughed.
“Do you think Lady Gisela would use it?” Sophie asked.
“With her, you never know. But I wouldn’t bet on it. I feel like she would create something of her own. Not an old rebel tactic.” He theorized.
“Yeah, probably.” Sophie agreed.
Elwin gave her some achey break and then some bottle of youth, and then let her go back to class.
Sophie’s ankle still hurt a bit as she walked down the hallway, but she ignored it. She had worse things to worry about than a sprained ankle.
But right now, she just decided to focus on school and friends. That was one thing that would always stay the same, despite all the crazy change. And she sort of appreciated it. It was nice to have a comfort zone, especially when-
“You must be lost.” Said a familiar voice from behind.

Late birthday gift for @ndoandou
Happy birthday! Have a little Keef shenanigans.
Jadean springs were characterized by warm sun and a breeze that could, at times, carry a hint of winter's chill. The current weather nearly perfectly encapsulated such a description, yet the early spring winds did little to bother the budding life in the royal greenhouse. The small green sprouts of new plants were poking up in places, while the hardier trees and shrubs kept the place from looking too barren.
Seated within the house of gentle warmth and stillness was the oddest pair of friends, of brothers, and of twins one would ever lay eyes on. Despite matching hair and eyes, similar bulky physiques, and even a shared name, the two men were quite visibly opposites. The gentler of the two sat at the little round table in the greenhouse with his ankles politely crossed at he shoveled pastries into his mouth with obvious relish. Despite being dressed down, he kept his undershirt buttoned up to his neck, maintaining the appearance of a gentleman, whether purposefully or not. His fluffy, unkempt bangs hung low over his wide, doe-like eyes like a shield from the world. Kind Keith kept his posture upright and proper, looking every bit as princely as the first prince of Jade should as he reached for yet another scone with his right hand.
His unlikely companion, however, was quite the rogue in appearance. Side-swept bangs framed the corners of sharp, dark eyes, while a dashing undercut displayed the darker roots of the Keiths' shared silvery-olive hair. The more abrasive of the two sat sprawled in his chair, delighting in the warm sunlight shining through the glass panes of the greenhouse roof. He had discarded his usual cravat when dressing down and, in contrast to the Nice Keith, had unbuttoned the top of his shirt, leaving his firm, broad chest bared to the crisp air and spring sunshine. A half-eaten tea sandwich flopped onto Mean Keith's plate from his left hand as he turned his attention to his timid twin, who had just gotten his attention with a soft noise.
"Um..."
"...?"
The second prince of Jade peered dispassionately across the small table at his brother, but not uncaringly. Never uncaringly. Despite being the younger of the two (by four minutes), Mean Keith often found himself looking out for his little bitch of a- sensitive twin brother. It was mere days ago that he had come across him in the palace halls looking more worried than usual. Mean Keith wondered vaguely if his Kind counterpart was forced to worry for the both of them at times.
When pressed, he had admitted to overhearing evidence of a certain noble embezzling funds from their medicinal plants and herbs research program. Although Nice Keith had ordered an investigation on the matter, while there was no shortage of suspicious activity that pointed toward (and more or less proved, in both Keiths' opinions) the noble's guilt, there was not enough evidence to persecute him based on Jadean law.
The eldest prince was angered at his inability to do anything, especially when the crime was harmful to the citizens of their kingdom. The research program was meant to advance knowledge in the field of medicine throughout all of Jade. It was especially important for those in the northern part of the country, which experienced rather frigid winters while having less fertile soil as the land neared the border of Obsidian. The second prince was angry as well, of course. These kinds of people were nothing more than trash, harming others to get ahead. They were slippery, too. And he knew how to deal with them.
Mean Keith pulled his distressed twin in for a hug when he noticed he was clenching and unclenching his fists at his sides, trembling with frustration. Nice Keith leaned his head against his brother's shoulder, trying not to lose his composure at the helplessness he felt. After a few moments, the younger spoke.
"Lemme deal with this one."
Nice Keith quickly pulled away. "You can't just walk in and start stabbing people, you know! You could get in a lot of trouble!"
Mean Keith frowned. "Is that what ya think of me? I ain't that dumb, ya know. I'll think of somethin', so you just keep focusing on your plants."
The first prince of Jade huffed in exasperation and gratitude towards his sibling. "Thanks. Sorry for pushing the hard work on you."
"Ya didn't. "
Nice Keith smiled gently... then gasped in horror. "I'm late! I was on my way to a meeting! With the researchers!"
He took off running down the hall (which was rather uncouth, but the Kind prince would rather die than be rude by making people wait on him), shouting behind him. "Sorry, I've got to go!"
At present, Mean Keith had to stop himself from grinning as he recalled the other's clumsiness. He returned his attention to his overly-polite sibling across the table, who was sweating and beginning to nervously press his fingers together. It was obvious he wanted to ask something, contemplating his words.
"Spit it out."
Nice Keith relaxed a bit at his brother's usual brusque demeanor. His eyes trailed hesitantly over the younger's casual attire. (It should be noted that Mean Keith wore outfits with his boobs out more often than not, like today.)
"...Does your chest not get cold?"
Silence met his timid question.
"..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"What typa question is that...?"

Team foster keefe headcannons?
YES YES YES OMG
So first, the angst
Sophie and Keefe have some hard stuff near the end of canon bc Keefe has a really hard time letting go of his urge to never trust, to separate off, to run away, and to steal from Sophie to do it (has anyone else noticed the sheer amount of times his little rogue plans involve stealing from Sophie?? Because I DEFINITELY HAVE)
There’s a scene similar to the one in nightfall where Sophie tells him off for it again but then she realizes that what he really needs to hear isn’t that he has to work as a team, but that whatever he’s thinking or planning or considering—he doesn’t have to do it alone. It can be the worst idea in the universe and Sophie won’t immediately shut him down. She’ll head him out and brainstorm with him and she PROMISES. She tells him she wants to be there for him and she can’t do it if he keeps shutting her out.
And when that seems to be working, she adds, “I promised you I wouldn’t let you mess this up, didn’t I?”
Tearful hugs.
Sophie realizes that actually being willing to listen to Keefe’s most outlandish ideas both broadens her own horizons and strengthens her connection with Keefe. Also, in some ways, it’s really helpful for Keefe as he heals from years of never even trying to be someone who could be taken seriously (because that always hurt too much. Because he’d come home to-)
For a while after the ending of canon, Keefe and Sophie spend a lot of time in the forbidden cities just… existing together. And they’re able to get therapy and a human understanding of mental health is HUGELY helpful for Keefe (not writing off abuse as a thing that doesn’t happen) but also for both him and Sophie (PTSD->insomnia and all the things)
And they’re able to heal from everything that happened in canon together. And eventually they’re able to come back to the lost cities.
And these two are freshly mentally strong and also have been around humans for a long time and they’re ready to dismantle the whole lost cities political system bc abskdhskshssj
And now they’re back to a fluffy, lighthearted Sokeefe dynamic that we all miss.
Keefe keeps up all the silly flirting and Sophie loves it.
Did I mention they’re dismantling Elvin political systems? Also matchmaking. Bye bye. Discrimination against talentless people? Twins and triplets? NO MORE. Not if Sophie and Keefe say so
They do some of this by being really huge figures from a well known rebellion that a lot of people used to hear about, sure. But also I think that as a couple they just sorta become the Elvin version of social media influencers, and become sorta this idolized power couple by the lost cities. This is how they’re able to sway public opinion, bit by bit, to question all the stupid systems the elves have
Silly fun flirty Sokeefe is back in the picture, just like they deserve.
Obviously their pasts aren’t erased
Sometimes Sophie still is kept up at night
Sometimes Keefe needs to be reminded of things
Sometimes they aren’t totally okay
But they’re better than they were. Their hearts aren’t broken in the same way. There are still scars, of course, but they’re healed.
And honestly they deserve to be a power couple taking on the lost cities injustices (oh did I mention their friends are TOTALLY IN on this part? Including their Elvin social media campaign. Biana and Marella handle their public image ofc)
Anyway this is definitely a roller coaster of angst and crack and fluff but WHATEVER HERE HAVE THE HEADCANONS!!
Thanks for the ask!
