Saw an e/riel post today that said something like "not all romantic pairings need to have banter, not all pairings need to have feral and loud passion"

And it's just like...don't you want them to? Do you not want that for Elain? I personally don't want to read about a couple that has no banter and starts and ends quietly and peacefully. I want tension and hardship and longing. I want feral and loud passion for Elain and Lucien. I want them to have playful banter. Same with Gywn and Azriel. Why wouldn't we want that?

I think about it constantly how paralleled Elain and Lucien are, but also Azriel and Gwyn.

In ACOWAR, Elain tells Nesta that she needs sunshine; in the same book, we learn that Lucien, whose name also means ‘light,’ is the son and sole heir to the Day Court. In the chapter where we learn that Elain is a Seer, we also learn that Lucien’s eye can see through spells and glamours—a Seer and a male with a magic eye that can see through magic.

Then you have the connections to the plot arc that they both orbit—Koschei. In ACOTAR, Elain tells Feyre that she wants to travel to the mortal continent. In ACOWAR, Elain has a vision of Koschei and his lake and we find out that it is on the mortal continent. Lucien travels to said continent to track Vassa and instead finds both Papa Archeron and Vassa. Papa Archeron, who was always the closest and resembles the most to Elain, is now fully connected to Lucien. Lucien is connected to everything that Elain loves: Sunshine and gardening [heir of Day], courts and balls [emissary], and Papa Archeron. Elain and Lucien are also the only two characters canonically to have an animal moniker: Lord of Foxes and the Lovely Fawn. They were made mates for a reason. (Reminder that it was Elain who introduced us to the Koschei arc and it will be her arc)

Azriel and Gwyn connect on a deeper-than-surface level. Both Azriel and Gwyn perceive themselves as a product of their trauma—Gwyn telling Nesta and Emerie that they would not like her once they knew her story, and Azriel in his POV hiding parts of himself from Elain as not to taint her. They both, instead of running from the darkness, chose to embrace it—Azriel with befriending his shadows and learning their language, and Gwyn with welcoming the darkness of the library and overcoming her fears because her friends needed her. They both enjoy training at night when they cannot sleep. They both are warriors and Carynthian. They are both loyal to their friends and would do anything for them, even putting themselves at risk. We even have Gwyn practicing stealth and espionage in ACOSF, similarly to how Azriel as a Spy Master would do so. Not even to mention the mate language used in the bonus chapter when Azriel thinks of Gwyn. (Reminder that Azriel and Gwyn are connected to the Dusk Court arc and that will be their arc)

EDIT: Gwyn is a Valkyrie and Azriel is an Illyrian—those two groups fought side by side in the war. “Merging Illyrian and Valkyrie techniques,” was foreshadowing. Also! It seems that the bat boys and their mate is reflective of someone in that trio. Feyre is compared to Cassian, and Nesta is compared to Azriel. It would be Gwyn, not Elain, who is compared to Rhysand. Her being fascinated by knowledge, her wit, being carried up Ramiel during the Great Rite, her both losing her sister (in a similar manner to how Rhys’ sister was murdered, as well) and being SA’d by someone connected to Hybern. (I want to make clear that I am not romanticizing any of this—I am merely making a connection)

To ignore these moments and parallels is to ignore canon and foreshadowing.

because when nessian first met they had same bark but elriel was more like

´´hey whats up im not ever going to be in a romantic relationship with you so we are going to be kind together so no one says we have chemistry´´ or Sarah just laid them out as words on paper together but with nessian they had potential from the start.

I never got couple vibes because they just never had potential. Sure right now elriel got the sexual vibes but elucien and gwynriel are the couples that have had potential from the very beginning.

Feysand and nessian did but obviously i didn't like the outcome but that's not my point!! My point is no couple in SJM history starts that boring. I'm sorry they just give nothing together. Every one of the couples has a story or a conflict to work through. There is no way a dumb necklace would be the conflict between elriel.

Elriel is one of those people who try to be a couple because they have the same circle and are pleasant to each other and have a mutual trust but then their relationship is much more meaningful as friends.

I fully believe they will laugh about the fact they wanted to kiss each other someday when they are situated with their redheads.

Thank youuuu, Maasverse is literally targeted at young adults, they're an easy read lol (which is why I enjoy her work, its mind numbing fun) but people bending over backwards to misinterpret things that are so simple to understand is like... do you need to be right at the cost of making yourself look stupid?? as you said, ship what you want and feel free to do so but saying things are canon that simply aren't is doing THEM a disservice.

And it’s so loudly being wrong that makes it comical. People can hand them a screenshot from the book itself and they will still swear up and down that you’re wrong. Elriel reads flat and without chemistry because that’s how it’s intended to be read. It’s intended to be interpreted as a “buffer” relationship that stands as tension before the endgame. Elriels have also taken all of the characters and given them a fanon makeover—so violently that they’re going to be upset and confused when they read the next book and nothing they projected on the characters exist.

Elriel is a self-insert ship that uses Elain as a pawn to get a smut scene with Azriel. That is all they care about (their fanart more than proves that).

Watching you correct elriels and their pathetic attempts at comebacks is the funniest part of my day 😅 keep at it. They’re hilariously bad at defending their ship! They’re scrambling desperately.
