Finlay Donovan is back to her chaotic sleuthing ways in this sequel to #finlaydonovaniskillingit ! This installment picks up where the epilogue of the first book left off - someone wants her ex husband dead and is offering a big price to off him. With a lot of help from her nanny, Finlay navigates the maze of keeping her kids safe (and hopefully her ex alive!), her writing deadlines, her complicated and blooming love life, and solving an ever-changing mystery of the mob-based hit site.

This was every bit as delightful as the first installment! I love listening to Finlay’s scheming and wondering how she’s going to get herself out of these crazy situations. These books are a perfect balance of mystery, comedy, and a perfect dose of romance. I highly recommend for everyone but especially mystery and romance fans!

Finlay Donovan Knock ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano is wild yet cozy — just how I like it. It is like snuggling up with a loved one by a holiday fire, eating cookies, until the fire gets out of control and threatens to take all your life up in flames. But love and smarts will still rule the day.

 On this wild ride, Finlay and Vero are trying to find out who wants to kill Finlay’s ex- husband (and her children’s father) while enjoying the holiday season. And perhaps Finlay can figure out her romance entanglements along the way.

Finlay Knocks ‘Em Dead is the second book in this series. I found it less fast-paced than the first. But there was a more holiday cozy mystery vibe to it (don’t worry there is plenty of danger and hijinks like last time). There were more characters involved in this book and it really had a family theme to it—found and biological family. No matter how you define family, maybe you could see yourselves in Finlay’s life. That’s what is interesting about this series, Finlay and Vero do so many impossible things, but they are both very relatable. You can see your moms, sisters, cousins, daughters or yourselves in this book, and they are powerful.

I found plenty of laughs and some aww moments in Finlay Knocks ‘Em Dead. It was the perfect book to read curled under a heated blanket in winter while a global pandemic was going on. A little joy in a harsh time. I also really appreciated the shout out to bookstagram from the author since the bookstagram community really loved her books including me. Please, keep writing to them. I think Finlay helped a lot of readers like me have a darn good time. For these reasons, I gave Finlay Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano a 5 out of 5 stars.

It is witty, funny with lots of laugh-out-loud moments and a hint of dark humor. Finlay is a suspense novelist, but currently, she’s doing very poorly: she’s broke, up to her ears in debt, a single mom about to lose custody of her children, and has an absolute lowlife for an ex. She already has a thick resume of “Bad decisions”: she has gotten arrested for putting Play-Dough in the exhaust pipe of her ex-husband’s lover/fiancées car; she’s been thrown out of and banned from Panera, for throwing soup on said lover. It goes further downhill when she meets up with her agent (at Panera, of course!) to discuss her latest book ideas, only to be mistaken for a contract killer! 😂 The customer has a job for her and won’t take no for answer! Following her slew of bad decisions, Finlay digs herself into a deeper hole as she tries to get herself out of this job. But the job is quite tempting and the answer to all her monetary problems atm. With the help of her fierce nanny/accomplice, Vero, one bad decision leads to another, and Finlay is too deep to back away now. She finds herself part of real-life crimes with Russian mobs and real contract killers. 😅 I loved the unconventional way she solves the mystery (and I didn’t guess whodunnit). Also, the detective (Nick) was 💯 It was outrageous, funny, fast-paced, with a unique plot that had me reading late! Do I want more Finlay? Absolutely yess!!!! "Finlay is again struggling to finish her next novel and to keep her head above water as a single mom of two. She does have her live-in nanny and confidant, Vero, to rely on. She discovers in an online women's forum that someone wants her ex-husband dead. As much as she dislikes him, she doesn't want her children to be without their father. Vero is keeping secrets and Detective Nick is trying to get back into her life. Finlay just wants to finish her book and find the killer without anyone getting killed." I love the character of Finlay. We can all relate to those moments where life is overwhelming - the car won't work, the checking account is low, and life is just stressful. But Finlay pushes through all of her problems (with Vero's help) and finds a way to make things work. And EC puts her in some crazy situations. There are so many hilarious moments here - especially with Carl. 😳😂 I like that Cosimano gives us more depth with these characters. It's great to find out more about Vero and Julian. Another great story from Cosimano. Finlay Donovan has become one of my favorite fictional characters. What makes an exceptional read for you? To me great books are entertaining - they’re fast-paced and hard to put down - they make me feel some emotion on a deep level - the main character will have some of the same thoughts that I have making me feel that someone else is like me. I have read a lot of great stories this year. These are the best of the best. A Caller’s Game by JD Barker is my top book so far this year. Although I would like to know what’s a wig scarf? The ex is a jerk and nobody will like him. He deserves what he gets. I enjoyed the new partnership between Finlay and Vero. Vero seems to be the go-to for unmarked bill accounting. As things continued to pile up and unravel l kept pulling for Finlay just hoping she could get ahead.
