Zachariah “Zach” Johnson SFW Alphabet

Tw: Angst in some parts, death mentions, 1 (one) reference to sex and some of it may be slightly suggestive but I keep it all PG, it’s just how he be sometimes 🤷‍♀️

Note: This one is more romantically inclined than Max’s, I’m not sure why I guess I just felt it more here. But, well, I’m sure you guys don’t mind if you’re reading on in this ^^ let’s be honest

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

He’s a bit reserved actually, at least for when it comes to more wholesome, soft touches. Still, he seems to like to brush against you, like (ironically) some kind of cat. Standing close enough together for your shoulders to touch, a calloused hand on your back, leaning into you (sometimes too heavily, as a joke) that sort of thing. He enjoys kissing you though.

B = Best Friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

The most likely way you’d become Zach’s best friend is if you work alongside him as a hunter and/or agent for The Organisation (preferably in his division), because that gets rid of the barrier of keeping secrets and distance. Doing missions together, having each other's back and spending leisure time in each other’s company will start your friendship pretty smoothly, should you click together personality-wise. Then, you’ll be thick as thieves.

Since one of Zach’s favourite pastimes is to hit up a bar or a club he’ll totally bring you with him if you want, you can drink, play pool together, chat up some attractive patrons, (he’s an excellent wingman btw) get thrown out bc of a bar fight etc. but if that’s not your thing then there’s still plenty of good times to be had with Zach as a friend. He’s actually really knowledgeable about film and film theory which is something you may not expect! He’s a lil bit of a nerd but don’t tell him that lol. You can have movie nights and cook together (or he can teach you). Something that doesn’t need to be conflict or pain or death.

Eventually he might start seeing you as a sibling figure he wants to protect and have fun with, just like with Jude. You may act as a mediator for both of them, or alternatively be more like either of the two. Either way it’s likely you’ll befriend her as well.

Also: you get the privilege of being able to make eyepatch and pirate jokes with him lol.

C = Cuddle (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Usually on the couch or bed, watching something on the TV together ^^ he loves enjoying movies together and this is a good time to get snuggly. He does the ‘boyfriend yawning’ technique and throws an arm over your shoulders for sure 🤣 he prefers it when you cuddle up to him and just get comfy.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

For Zach settling down would be difficult because of his job. I mean, the constant danger, the moving around, the keeping secrets, the thought that he might never come back home one day… If you want that classic white picket fence lifestyle with two½ kid and a dog he’s not entirely sure if he can give that to you. Honestly, he’s not sure if he wants to settle down either. He’s gotten so used to living fast and dangerous, on the edge of a knife, he wonders if he could really ever live any other way now.

He’s average at cleaning. He can get it done with fair enough efficiency. (His dad was strict enough with chores growing up and it was just them, so) However, when it comes to cooking it’s a whole ‘nother matter! You’ll have your own sous chef in the kitchen, and because he loves you he enjoys wowing you with dishes you’d enjoy, and he enjoys doing it together with you as well/teaching you some cool tricks.

In short, he enjoys the short moments of domesticity against the chaos of his everyday life.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

It depends on how serious the relationship is. If it’s just a casual thing he’ll be very quick and upfront about it; he’s gotta love ya and leave ya, sorry. If it’s a deeper, more intimate one… He’ll take his time thinking it through before he takes any action to break it off. He’d be less insensitive, more sad and regretful that things had to turn out like this.

Keep in mind it’s entirely possible he might believe it’s for your own safety as well, especially if you’re just a civilian. He realises he actually really loves you, and he’d prefer you alive with someone else rather than dead because of him and his job.

F = Fiancé(e) (how do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Might have issues in the beginning, but I believe it’s mostly for trauma and work related reasons. Overall Zach plays loosely in the dating world, at least until he finds himself getting attached. Catching feelings and all that, even when he didn’t mean to.

Although ofc… We know he can be impulsive at times so;; I think he would think well enough about getting married, ‘putting a ring on it’ and all that. He knows life is short and you’ll never know when it’ll be over, so he reasons that you may as well get married while you’re still young and still like each other.

Romantic, right?

Tbh it’s likely you’d get married in an actual church. He’d probably rope someone else from the Organisation he likes to annoy into being his best man. After that, he’s yours now, for better or for worse! It probably wouldn’t change too much about your relationship in the end though.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Zach is usually quite firm and steady in touch, not usually featherlight and soft because that doesn’t come as naturally to him. As a man who’s used to fighting his way through life, his strength and toughness has always been more emphasised. Still, he’s aware of this, so he always reserves some gentleness for you.

Emotionally, it’s not unheard of for him to be frank and straightforward about most things, but he considers your feelings much more than you might realise. He won’t say it, but once you get to know him you’ll recognise it more; that he tries his best not to put his foot in his mouth all the time. Still, he can be a little insensitive sometimes, and his teasing can be annoying too.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Not a super big hug guy. Never really got them while growing up because his father wasn’t that affectionate and he sort of mirrored him. He’s more likely to pat you on the shoulder or back, or casually sling an arm around you.

Still, he likes it if you pull him into a comforting hug more than he’d care to admit.

He’s warm and solid, and his grip is firm. You can tell he tries not to hold you too tight. It’s more of an embrace, but steady and grounding.

I = I Love You (How fast do they say the L-Word?)

Not fast.

Those words kind of feel weighty to him, especially when you’re in the beginning of the relationship and might not want to put a label on things just yet. You know how in that scene in Empire Strikes Back when Leia says ‘I love you’ and Han just goes ‘I know’? That’s him lol. He kind of prefers actions over words in a lot of situations as well.

I think he would eventually say he loves you after a good time of being together, and when he does he really means it. It’ll become easier for him after that, and you’ll get the occasional ‘love you’ when he’s saying goodbye, even if you’re fighting at the time. He’d prefer those be the words you could remember him by if he doesn’t come back.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous)

I feel like he is the kind of man to kind of take pride in his s/o for getting attention tbh, like yeah, he thinks you’re very attractive, who wouldn’t want you? He’ll get more jealous if he thinks you’re actually paying more flirtatious attention to someone else than you give to him.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Quite a sensual and passionate kisser, you will most likely have a number of heated make out sessions with this man. He loves it when you give him jaw kisses and especially if you smooch his scars, it makes him so soft for you and happy <3 He also likes to kiss your cheek or neck the most.

He usually tastes of cigarettes and either coffee or alcohol. It’s not the most pleasant but he does try to pop a mint every once in a while for your sake lol.

Also, another tall man and will absolutely find it amusing if you are too short to reach. He’ll give you what you want though, after a bit of teasing that is.

L = Little Ones (How are they around children)

He’s kind of neutral about them overall. Some of them think he’s cool because he looks and acts like an action hero come to life, others are a bit daunted by the dents in his appearance from all the scars. He tends to like the older ones better, like young teenagers and up, because he can chat with them easier and even teach them some things.

(He probably isn’t the best role model all the time though lol)

As a dad I think he’d be more laid back than his, and try to be better. He’d like to teach them things like how to be independent, how to grow up to be a good adult. I don’t think he’d want kids though, at least not right now in his life.

M = Mornings (How are mornings spent with them?)

His morning routine, if he can manage to structure it, usually begins with a cup of coffee and a smoke. He likes to get up early to watch the sunrise if he can. With a new dawn comes the reminder that he’s still alive, that the light will always persist.

Oftentimes he’s a busy man, so once he finishes up and reads his newspaper (and does crosswords like a granny lol) like usual he’ll be up and out to investigate or sort out a problem. He may not even have time to do these things if he gets called out for something urgent, in which case it’s Go Time. If you’re on the job like him, you’ll probably be working together, and if not he might just have to give you a quick kiss and head out.

On the days he has leisure time to spend, he enjoys cuddling on the sofa or in bed with you for a bit, watching TV with you. You really make him appreciate the more peaceful moments in his life more, for once he’s slowing down and enjoying this time with you.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Mostly Zach is pretty active at night because there’s a lot of hostile entities that like to show their faces at that time. Nine times out of ten he’ll be working, but when he gets time to himself it’s generally either one or two options: movie night (if he can manage it) or bar visit. He’ll drink, play card games, flirt with some attractive patrons, that sort of thing. He doesn’t gamble big, but he’ll do it sometimes with a bit of cash. He’s actually gotten pretty lucky sometimes. If you want to join him, be prepared for some shenanigans lol.

The movie nights are always pretty interesting! He likes older ones the best; westerns, film noirs, spy films (James Bond especially), but he’s not too picky and if you want to throw your lot in, just say to him. You might come up with a sort of rotating system where you pick it one night, he picks it another. Also, if he can he’ll cook for the both of you, and his food is genuinely delicious. Of course he’d take the opportunity to impress you with his culinary skills ;)

Late night drives and fancy dinners out are also good options. Whatever you do, you’ll always find some way to entertain yourselves with your playful banter.

O = Open (When do they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Zach is under obligation to keep a lot of things under wraps, so don’t feel too offended when I say he won’t exactly be spilling the beans to you right away. He tends to see most relationships as casual flings until it gets more serious between you, and by that point he’ll want you to know the honest truth before you go any further. If you both can’t get past that, he’ll know it won’t work out anyway, so it’s almost a test to see if he can really proceed with things.

That aside, he becomes fairly frank with how he stands on things. Once you know the truth, the whole truth, he doesn’t mind telling you about how he got into this business and why he’s so dedicated to it. The more sensitive details might take a while longer, but the more you get to know him intimately, the more open he’ll be. Eventually, he’ll even tell you about the origins of his scars and missing eye, and how his childhood was growing up…

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Zach’s temper isn't on a hair-trigger per se, but he’s got plenty of dynamite in his belly just waiting for something to light the fuse. He can be quite headstrong, especially when it comes to his passion in life: eradicating demons and other evil entities. You might get into a few arguments with him where he can be a little mean, though he’ll likely regret it afterward once he’s cooled off.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

Well tbh he plays it pretty fast and loose 😅 but you know he’s actually interested in you/he cares because he takes the time to listen to you when you talk about your likes and hobbies. He may not be able to retain all of it but he’ll certainly try.

Also, I feel like he does this, idk very dad thing where he just remembers you liked this one thing (1) and then all his gifts are about that LMAO you have to put the foot down after he gives you ___ themed everything for Christmas. He’s trying lol.

R = Remember (What is their favourite moment in their relationship?)

It sounds cheesy (because it is) but actually when you first met and he tried to charm you with his ways ✨ and long story short, he made a right fool of himself. He still managed to get in your good graces somehow though, which he thinks was all according to plan really. Whether or not you think it was a smooth move or not, that’s up to you.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Zach really sees it as his job to protect you, as much as he sees it as his job to protect innocent civilians. But you’re much more personally important to him, so even though he acts casual about it you know that he’s always taking measures to protect you. He’ll even insist on sleeping close to the door so that if anything were to burst in, it would probably get him first. It’s habitual for him to see himself as expendable in the grand scheme of things.

It also depends on how good you are at handling yourself, if you’re a hunter or something similar to what he is and if so, how formidable you are. Even so, he’s got your back no matter what. He’s very proud if you’re strong and capable, (and ngl finds it hot) so say if you do your big damn hero moment and protect him… Prepare for his gratitude afterwards.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks)

Zach might have his gremlin moments but real talk, he kind of has the old school sense of romance and sometimes you’ll find he’s just gone all out. Like I’m talking flowers, nice dinner, thoughtful gift, the whole shebang. He likes to pull this on you at random bc he just feels like it lol.

He enjoys giving you good and sometimes expensive dates as well, (don’t ask how much money he saved up for it) especially for important things like your birthday or anniversaries. I think part of it is that he feels bad that his work gets in the way sometimes, so he wants to make it up to you with things like this.

And trust me, if there’s anything you want to do like, say, go on a helicopter ride? He knows a pilot who will take you both up. Don’t ask, just enjoy.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

The slight hedonism; smoking, drinking, sleeping around might not be appealing to a potential partner, (although I don’t think he’d ever cheat on one so don’t get it it twisted) some may also question his way of doing things. He has a rather ugly habit of sadism when it comes to certain detestable enemies he comes across, and not to mention his views on the supernatural may not be received too great...

Zach’s impulsive nature can lead to some spontaneity that might clash with certain people as well, sometimes he can’t understand needing a routine because he’s always changing his. His teasing can also be a bit annoying so you need to tell him if it’s too much.

It also depends if you can tolerate his Christian bent, because while he doesn’t preach or push it into anyone or anything, (nor does he necessarily have outdated beliefs) he is still fairly religious and will continue to practise his faith.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Zach is aware he can’t do much about how banged up and scarred he is, especially in the face area where it’s most notable. That said, he still takes care of himself, partially for his own self-esteem/hygiene and partially because he still likes to think he’s got game lol. He especially pays attention to his scent and aftershaves because he wants to make up for the inevitable smoke smell that clings to him. The grizzled look is probably intentional, he knows certain people dig that. He also knows how to dress himself, especially if he’s trying to impress. This man looks great in a tux btw 👀

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

The more you stay by his side, the more he finds it difficult to imagine a life without you. He wants you to be a constant, but of course he can’t always guarantee that…

I think if it’s a break up, regardless of the reason, if you had something serious it’d make him a little more hesitant to date again. Especially if it was because of his job. I think just like with his mentor, if you were to die he would really want to keep something as a memento of you, and never let it go. He would probably remember you until the day he died himself, even if he would move on.

X = Xtra: (A random headcanon for them)

When he was first learning to swim at a young age he actually was a bit scared of the water, and his father’s way of teaching was literally just ‘throw my kid in the deep end until he learns how to swim’ so uuuh… Yeah he did eventually learn though lol, that being said he doesn’t much like cold water nowadays and would rather just chill on the sand if he gets a holiday at the beach or something. You should make him into a mermaid when he falls asleep 😂

I think he would probably dunk someone’s head under in the pool for a giggle as well lol

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

A lack of (what he sees as) personal integrity, someone who he sees as too stuck up, stern or serious, bad hygiene/personal grooming.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)

His preferred sleeping position is on his stomach or back, he can’t get to sleep lying sideways for some reason. Usually he’s quite still and doesn’t snore actually. He tends to have these little facial twitches and micro expressions from dreams in his sleep, he doesn’t sleeptalk but you can sort of get the gist of how he’s doing from those. Will appreciate if you wake him up if he’s not doing well. With a partner, he likes to either rest on their stomach or have them rest comfortably on his chest <3

So I had this guy, Jude’s partner, sitting in my drafts and I decided why not just get him out already since I’ll need him to write stories for the demon hunters when I get around to that.

Meet Zach.

Zachariah “Zach” Johnson 🚬

Name: Zachariah Johnson

Meaning: ‘God is renowned’

Alias(es): Zach, Z (by Jude sometimes)

Pronouns: He/Him

Age: 25

D.O.B: March 23rd

Zodiac: Aries

Sexuality: Bisexual

Current Residence: N/A, He travels around with Jude, although they temporarily stay in some places

Occupation: Demon/Supernatural Hunter

Appearance Description: Zach is a young man with olive/tan skin, dark brown curly hair, and one dark brown eye. His other eye is gone, replaced with a black eyepatch. Usually has a bit of scratchy stubble. He is athletic and sturdy.

Style: His Signature Trenchcoat, Combat Boots, Tank Tops, Button Ups, Occasional Suit & Tie

Height: 6,1ft

Eye Colour: Dark Brown

Hair Colour: Dark Brown

Notable Features: Missing his right eye. Has scars all over his body and face, many from the ‘incident’ that occurred 5 years ago. One of his fingers even has barely even feeling at all left in it, since he had to reattach it. Usually wears a nice watch. He owns a dark beaded rosary which he uses to pray.

Personality: A generally confident and laid-back man, his penchant for frivolity hides how passionate and dedicated he is to his job. He’s a charming man and is quite the smooth talker when he wants to be. He prefers to take concrete action rather than just talking about it though, and he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty if need be. Unlike Jude, his reaction to his trauma was to become colder and more cynical than he was previously. After the ‘incident’ he changed as well, although he became no less determined to exterminate demons. In fact, his hatred for demonic entities is so strong he can be rather sadistic in torturing and killing them. He genuinely cares about doing the right thing, even if sometimes his methods are extreme. He is a religious man, though you might not think it from all his drinking and laisseiz-faire attitude.

He can speak a bit of Spanish but he isn’t completely fluent. His father is Irish so he actually can speak a bit of that too.

He’s a heavy smoker, and he tends to rely on it for stress relief. He began smoking when he was young, behind the backs of his father and mentor (who knew but just didn’t say anything). It was half peer pressure and half trauma response.

His reason for hating Winter isn’t like Jude’s, although he was traumatised by the incident as well (it’s how he lost his eye). He just hates the cold weather and nuisances that come with it.

He got his dislike of cats from his aunt, who prejudiced him against them when he was younger. He mostly just thinks they are all very cold and mean, it’s not that he would ever hurt them or anything. He’s not that kind of person.

His mom, Isabel, was originally a demon hunter stationed in Columbia before she moved to America to fight an influx of demonic entities popping up. That’s where she married and had Zach. Unfortunately, she died alongside many others when they went to exterminate a witchcult in Massachusetts years ago…

He later was possessed by a demon and his father, desperate to save him, called up an associate of Isabel, a demon hunter named Nathaniel Hopkins, to help him. He did indeed exorcise the demon, and Nathaniel later would become his mentor before he died.

The experience with this demon, along with the death of his mother, is what created a good deal of hatred inside him.

He is more of a ranged fighter than Jude, and he’s a great shot with his guns too. (he favours pistols/revolvers and shotguns) If he needs to get up close and personal for any reason he’ll probably use an axe/hatchet. He has all different kinds of bullets for fighting different creatures. And this is all despite having impaired vision

He and Jude are a part of a division known as the ‘Sunseekers.’ That’s all I’ll say for now.

He always wears an old trenchcoat he inherited from his mentor after he died. It has all sorts of little pockets to carry his demon hunting stuff in.

Although he is a man of God, he is also pretty self-aware and recognises himself as a man of many vices. Particularly with the booze…

Because of this, when he’s going to churches in various towns and cities he passes through, he’ll sometimes go into the confessional booths.

He’s a pretty good cook on his off time, and he used to make dinners for him and his dad when he was younger.

He is inspired both by the ‘noir detective’ stereotypes and by cowboy bounty hunters. Also a little by Ash Williams.

His mentor, Nathaniel Hopkins, is also a completely shameless expy of Samuel Loomis. Nathaniel also got his last name from the ‘Witchfinder General,’ Matthew Hopkins.
