advice as a commission artist!
when you are uploading your prior work for customers, it is a really good idea to avoid self depreciation! saying stuff like “oh this isnt that good” or even calling your artwork shitty directly on paid work and information is very detracting. it can say a lot of things about what you are doing. could say you didnt like working with the customer, that youre not confident in what you do or even dont want to be working on things at all i understand though that artists can definitely have doubts in their own work! i know i do sometimes. i even know that sometimes, some commissioners can be a pain in the ass to work with too! but yall gotta also understand discretion. working with people is a bit of a weird mix of genuine honesty and pulling some choice facades to get where you need to be. even if youre not confident in your work, bluffing and not mentioning how much you hate a piece when its done can do wonders. it can both draw in more customers (more money mmm) and ya know, if you fake it till you make it, you can even eventually believe in yourself! tricks of the trade dude plus, on the flip side as a patron, it kind of hurts to see someone i paid say they hated creating the work for me. like? gee that fucking sucks! its one thing to openly acknowledge a possible challenge in the work but completely another to outright berate it. youre not just talking ill of yourself, but the commissioner too. i hope this short lil diddy may be of some use

BEASTS FURY SCAM: Be Educated
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/beast-s-fury-project-indemand#/
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today, @beastsfury and @beastsfuryupate closed down their website and social media accounts, after 5 years of excuses & not paying their Voiceover Artists OR their animators. Even as I write this, they have been removing their posts and hiding accounts until only screenshot evidence remains of what they posted.
The owner, Ryhan Stevens, ran THREE SEPARATE Kickstarters/Fund Raisers (one for the main project, and a “needs more money!” future fundraiser):
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/support-beast-s-fury-fighting-game (failed project)
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/beast-s-fury-project-indemand#/
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/beastsfurygame/keep-beasts-fury-going
2 of them met their goals, and yet ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE CONTENT CREATORS GOT PAID.
Things like this happen time and time again. People forget, scammers repeat their process. They continue to make money. DON’T FALL FOR IT.
People who I personally know provided work on this and were not paid include @danielle-mcrae and @pmseymourva, but there are MANY others affected who I don’t know offhand. They ranged from voiceover artists, to casting directors, to animators, to coders.
Let me reiterate for you: this project got DOUBLE its original asking price (almost $75,000 total) and yet could not find the resources to pay any of its contributors AFTER FIVE YEARS.
Read the KS page. Remember the names of those heading the project. Educate yourself. DO NOT SUPPORT SCAMMERS’ PROJECTS BLINDLY.
For those of you who Kickstart/GoFundMe/IndieGogo, remember that not all projects/artists are to be trusted. Do your research and find out what they did in the past, how much they got, and if their promises and goals were completed. Support with confidence, not with blind hope.
My sincerest apologies to everyone I know who was involved with this project that got affected by the callous behavior that led to this series of events.
(Read a recounting of events from one of the affected animators: http://twitter.com/SorcererLance)
