JO MOONLESS BOMB-REVIEWING

There’s a soon to be author, Jo Moonless, who is bomb-reviewing indie/debut authors for no valuable reasons.

She has supposedly read 12 books in a row by indie/debut authors whom she gave one star rating each on Goodreads (one has evolved into a 2 star recently but started with one star).

Her reasons for giving one star to each of these books ? Let’s get into it.

Reviewed on 08.12.2023 :

• Fear the Flames, by Olivia Rose Darling (debut author)

→ DNF at chapter 3

→ “not in the mood to hate read” (ah yes because that’s the book’s problem and not yours…)

→ doesn’t like a character’s name, says it’s too much of a fuck boy name to be respected (???)

→ the writing

Reviewed on 09.12.2023 :

• Heavenly Bodies, by Imani Erriu (debut author)

→ DNF at chapter 2

→ “I can already tell this is gonna be full of tropes and clichés” (but hasn’t read more than 2 chapters so how would she know)

→ “I am reading for quality, for more than just a good story” (…)

→ the writing

• The Curse of Ophelia, by Nicole Platania (indie author)

→ DNF

→ “smells like something I have read before” (???)

• Heir of Fates, by Rowan Redfield (indie author)

→ DNF at chapter 1

→ nothing she disliked but nothing that hooked her (so she gave one star and dnf at chapter 1… what?)

• The Goddess and the Hawk, by Chiara Gala (debut author)

→ DNF at chapter 1

→ great energy but the book needs heavy editing

→ smut

→ too much telling (backstories… in chapter one? Seems normal to me… how is it too much if she only read chapter one???)

• The King’s Weapon, by Neena Laskowski (indie author)

→ DNF at chapter 1

→ “feels like a story I have read before”

→ not interesting enough to hook me (maybe read more than chapter one…)

→ the writing

• Daughter of Darkness : Wielder of Shadows, by Allie Cole (debut author)

→ DNF after a few paragraphs

→ “the writing? Like something I wrote before I ever started taking writing seriously” (for someone who isn’t even an author yet… pretentious much?)

→ wasn’t hooked (but again, she read a few paragraphs only so… is she even trying?)

• How Does It Feel? By Jeneane O’Riley (indie author)

→ DNF at chapter 2

→ the MC is beautiful and the villains not good enough (buuuuut she only read a few chapters)

→ the writing and needs editing

• Dream by the Shadows, by Logan Karlie (debut author)

→ DNF

→ “too vague and too generic” (okay that’s a fair reason I guess)

→ “the story might not be something I have read before, but the writing itself feels like it” (nevermind)

→ the writing was something she read before (I mean, there isn’t millions of ways to write a book Jo!)

Reviewed on 14.12.2023 :

• Powerless, by Lauren Roberts (debut author)

→ “immediate no” (so I’m guessing she opened it and straight up closed it?)

→ “the prose was not posing” (does that even mean something?)

• The Stars are Dying, by Chloe C. Peñarando (indie author)

→ DNF at the prologue (the prologue??!!)

→ “the prologue is to die for (not in a good way)”

→ the writing

• The Silver Birds, by Apolline Lucy (use to have 1 star, now has 2) (debut author)

→ DNF after chapter 1 (maybe she hates reading?)

→ “the writing was okay but not enough to charm me”

→ “I missed the details that could really immerse me into the story and make me feel” (TRY READING MORE THAN ONE CHAPTER MAYBE JO?!)

→ stopped reading because of the writing even though the story was up her alley (I have read this book, the writing is exquisite by the way)

First you’ll notice how she DNF all the books (most of them at chapter one) but still has a lot to say about them.

Then, the dates these books were reviewed on : if not the same day, close. Not a proof because obviously she could have read them at any time, but still weird.

Third, most of these authors are debut authors, who are trying their best at writing. Maybe encouraging them instead of bringing them down would be a better thing to do? Or strategy, considering she’s about to put a book out herself soon…

She even posted online (Instagram) about how proud she was to be hated by indie authors :

Finally, I wonder if she even bought the books… just to DNF all of them at the beginning? As a soon to be debut indie author herself, she better…

When her book comes out, I’ll read it, but the writing better be like something I’ve never read before. And if I didn’t get into the story straight up at chapter one, I guess I’ll DNF and rate it one star. Just like she did.

I encourage you to seek these books and read them to make your own opinion. I’m sure some of them are good and will be to your liking. If you do like them, give them a rating on Goodreads and boost some confidence into these authors.

Fear The Flames by Olivia Rose Darling, 612 pages, published November 19th 2022 -🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I picked this book up in a hope to reach 50 books by and the end of 2022. It was a social media find that oddly enough I found here on instagram when the author was promoting the presale. I had gotten it on my kindle back when it came out but was in the middle of a book at the time and from there it slipped my mind until I was browsing my kindle for something to read for this last book. All I saw was the cover - that’s all it took and I went in blind. This book blew me away. I adored it. And the ending had me feeling every single emotion. I wanted more before I was even finished, sadly that was about the time I remembered this one had just come out, not to worry I will be happy to wait (though very impatiently) for the next installment where we can see more of our little family and where they go from here.

So we all know GRRM, like all authors, took a lot of inspo from real life fairy tales, religion, and mythology. There are a ton of parallels but I picked out a few to put in this poll

Propaganda: Before anyone says anything, I know a lot of these are dark spins on the original. I’m not trying to say Littlefinger is a handsome prince or whatever. Also note that some of this is based on either things that haven’t happened yet but are highly likely to happen in Winds/Dream up to and including being confirmed by GRRM.

Arya and Jaqen as Hades and Persephone-the young maiden of spring is found by the lord of the underworld, who gives her an object (in this case a coin) to trick her into being trapped in the world of the dead. When she leaves home, winter comes, but when she returns, so does spring.

Sansa as Rapunzel-a princess locked in a tower by an evil sorceress (or just queen) who is spirited away by a man who wants to marry her. Strong focus on her hair as a symbol of her identity.

The Brotherhood Without Banners as Robin Hood and his Merry Men-a band of outlaws who defend the common people against corrupt authority figures. This one is really self explanatory.

Cersei as the evil queen and Margaery/Sansa/eventually Dany as Snow White-a vain, cruel women terrified of her beauty fading and being replaced by a younger woman who outshines her, so she tries to destroy her perceived rival, ultimately leading to her own downfall. The girls in Snow Whites slot are the popular choices for the identity of the YMBQ and the one Cersei is currently convinced it is.

Jaime and Brienne as Beauty and the Beast-a double subversion. Jaime is handsome and Brienne is ugly, but when they meet she’s brave and kind while he’s selfish and cruel, so it’s the beast who helps the beauty be better.

Lyanna, Rhaegar, and Robert as Helen of Troy, Paris, and Menelaus-a beautiful woman fiercely desired by two powerful men, she either runs off with or is kidnapped by a prince, leading to her (soon to be) husband retaliating by starting a tragic war.

Stannis and Shireen as Agammemon and Iphegenia-a king and commander sacrifices his daughter to the gods to win a war. Bonus if this ends up causing Stannis’ downfall.

Lady Stoneheart as Demeter-a mother wanders the land bringing destruction and misery as she searches for her daughter(s.) When her daughters return to her, spring comes.

Cersei and Jaimes children as the emperor wearing no clothes-the emperor walks around naked insisting that he’s a wearing magic invisible outfit, but everyone is afraid to tell him the truth until finally a child points out that he’s wearing nothing at all. See: everyone pretending not to notice that Cerseis children are the result of incest with her brother, and Ned finally realizing the truth when his 11 year old daughter points out that Joffrey is nothing like Robert.

Bran as the Fisher King-the Fisher King is a character from Arthurian myth. He is the guardian of the magical holy grail, protecting it so it (and power) does not fall into the hands of the unworthy. Notably, he also has a deliberating injury to his legs or groin (depending on the version.) Of course the endgame Bran of the show is a blatant rip-off of Leto II from Children of Dune, but I think the Fisher King sounds more like GRRM would do.

Dany as Moses-a leader who has prophetic visions, who after performing a miracle, frees her people from slavery and leads them on a harsh journey to a new land. Notably regarded as a critically important figure by a monotheistic religion.

Her thoughts halted as Cassian stormed into the room, frustration radiating off him in waves. She glanced up from her book, her eyes immediately catching the tension etched onto his features. Without a word, she closed her book and shifted, making room for him on the couch.

Cassian collapsed beside her, his movements rough yet familiar. He stretched out, his feet finding their place on her lap almost instinctively. Y/N didn't flinch; instead, she settled into the comfortable silence, waiting for Cassian to speak.

"It's Nesta," he finally muttered, his voice heavy with frustration. "Training with her…it was like walking on eggshells. One wrong move, and she was tearing into me with those ice-cold eyes."

She listened attentively, her gaze soft as she absorbed his words. "It was like she was always testing me," Cassian continued, his voice growing softer with each word. "Pushing me to my limits, making me question everything I thought I knew about myself."

Her fingers instinctively started to massage his feet as he spoke. It was a small gesture, one born out of years of friendship and trust. Cassian didn't protest; instead, he leaned back against the cushions, allowing the soothing touch to ease the tension from his muscles.

As the minutes stretched on, their conversation ebbed and flowed, the weight of Cassian's burdens slowly lifting with each passing moment. Y/N listened, offering words of comfort when needed, but mostly content to provide silent support.

Cassian's breathing eventually evened out, his body relaxing against the cushions. Y/N glanced down to find him fast asleep, his features softened by the serenity of slumber. She smiled softly, her heart swelling with affection.

Suddenly, chains, bolts, and locks shifted, loosening, their weight growing just a little more tolerable. A soul peeked through. Broken, scarred, and trembling — with fear, she realized, but it stretched further and further. Yearning, searching.

It was as though a tether had snapped into place, an invisible thread binding her to Cassian in a way she had never felt before. Confusion flickered as she processed the intensity of the connection, the undeniable pull drawing her closer to him.

She was aware that this was not happening in the slightest. A mind trick. A dream, she thought. betraying once, the jolt of real-time that pushed through her. Burning her cheeks and stealing her breath. How the waking world slipped past the knobby parts of her fingers like a whisper, barely there, because dreaming was just a fancier word for getting lost. It held her there, suspended in imagination and for every second, it felt real. Like she could grasp the outlines and the textures. Like she could touch the weather, drink the clouds, and taste the sunlight.

The gods who had her in a chokehold withdrew.

Death feared her too, it seemed.

He was soaring in the air, and she was on the ground. She tried to reach him but he was far, far out of her reach. Seconds ticked by, and then minutes, and every thought that tried to sneak its way in, through this thick veil, bounced off and dissipated into thin air.

Because she then remembered… that beautiful things shouldn’t be broken. And she had a knack for breaking things.

The soft rays of dawn streamed through the windows of the House of Wind, casting a warm glow over the sitting room where she and Cassian had fallen asleep. As she stirred from her slumber, she found herself alone on the couch, the imprint of Cassian's presence still lingering in the air. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, her mind foggy with the remnants of… dreams? Visions? She felt as though the very fabric of her existence had been torn asunder, leaving her adrift in a sea of uncertainty, but when has that ever stopped her?

So she stood on the ground and longed.

Does Heartstar/Tigerstar II have thalassophobia(fear of deep water/drowning) would certainly make sense given his family's entire Deal with the lake. Also does Rowanstar drowning in the Moonpool mean that there's just. A rotting corpse in the moonpool now? Don't the medcats drink from that water?! (Sorry if yiu see this twice! I think tumblr deleted my ask?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The desire to CinemaSins Ding poetic imagery is the death of visual metaphor and the bane of creativity. Kill the impulse. The moonpool is as deep and clean as it needs to be in spite of being canonically a stillwater pool and logically full of algae and microbes. Magic cat god water, full of StarClan Magic (tm)

We do not need to see the cats fishing Rowanstar's body out, or an accurate estimate of pool depth, or its PH level. StarClan's emotions do wonderful things when miracles occur. A wizard with a big pool cleaning net did it.

#I get a ridiculous number of asks about this and the answer is always the same so I've started deleting them #Why don't they fly the eagles to Mordor? Same reason Barbie must travel to the Real World in her sports car #It is the journey #as for thalassophobia no she doesn't have that. Sometimes I get questions for like... situations where the answer is simply no gfgfdsgfd #And I'd feel bad answering with a flat “no” or writing out a bunch of paragraphs that soften the no #SO generally I simply don't answer them either #I think it'd be cool for Flametail's spirit or Jayfeather to fear drowning though #Especially since Flame was denied his Sharing of Stars for a long time because the Dark Forest got him first #So the poor baby was like #soaked with ice water for several months #In a cell where the demons kept him prisoner #LITERALLY the wet beast #bone babble
