Upon reaching the age of majority (15 years)
I knew I wasn't making it up! I admittedly saw that first in a different source that I still can't find, but there it is again: the age of majority in human society on Toril is 15 years old (or around). Welcome to adulthood; if you're of a traditional Calishite family you now have five years to get a decent job, get your own household, get married and give us grandchildren or you're a stain on the family's reputation.
This is presumably why Ulder was too comfortable kicking Wyll out (17 is totally a responsible adult! Never mind that jumping to conclusions and exiling him without hearing his side of the story would've been terrible at any age and is a reflection on Ulder's shitty personality problems...), why Karlach being hired as a body guard as (presumably) a teen isn't seen as overly weird, and 15-ish is also the age at which Sceleritas would announce his presence to Durge - time for your religious indoctrination, my liege!

i wonder how it'll feel for will to pick out a house as an adult. if he'll wonder about escape routes. wondering if he wants a first floor bedroom to be able to escape out the window easily or if it'll make him feel too vulnerable to intruders. if he needs a back exit instead of just a front door bc ofc, what if something is coming in that front door, what if the lock is moving on its own again. can he feel safe with a shed in the backyard? he doesn't want to go in there, not even at the open house with mike by his side. is it silly if that’s a deal breaker? mike says they can tear it down but there's still a squirm of anxiety in will's gut. this house is drafty and too cold, that house has a fireplace with a poker that makes will touch the scar on his side through his shirt. this one doesn't have a bathtub and they need that just in case. this one has too much of an open layout and will remembers a wall being the only thing between him and mike and jonathan and a bullet from a gun.
but also. mike points out that that room in that one house has really good lighting for painting. there's a big enough yard to build a fort or a castle or a tree house, big enough for them, fun enough for kids. mike leans in and whispers in will's ear, "cozy basement, huh?" will has a shiver at that. this house doesn't have a fence and will states, "well, we need a fence for a dog." mike offers to build one if will really loves this house. one house has just enough bedrooms, for guests or for kids.
maybe it takes a while but maybe they'll eventually find one that's just right.

I’m feeling more “absolutely panicking enhanced child full of three sets of memories that are and are not his ripping the lock off of the coffin and dumping everything into Vincent’s lap before demanding they go kill hojo through tears”
Vincent who doesn’t have the memories that cloud has but does have Chaos nodding along in his mind and saying things he absolutely should not know that very much point to this being Very Real is honestly trying to pump the breaks and try to help the kid before he tries to take on Shinra on his own at like five.
Very much a trying to heal Cloud from another life of trauma and also stop some ancient alien from wrecking the world again all while trying to figure out how to be a parental figure to someone he apparently used to follow in the future kind of vibe.
Vincent wishes he could still get drunk.

the thing i have the biggest beef with in the witcher netflix is the fact that the writers seem to. like. not like jaskier. like they make geralt be a dick to him “i’m not your friend” and then have geralt turn around and be friendly and affectionate with loads of other characters. moussack “old friend”, that flashback with eskel, “you’re important to me, triss” why can’t we get this same energy with jaskier. begging for a proper apology in season 3 that jaskier doesn’t have to basically fish out of geralt my dude deserves better

i asked my dad if icarus smiled when he fell. he was confused so i told him the story. he said no because he failed. i tried to explain to him that he smiled because he was free. he said it was like getting a job, your boss telling you not to do a specific thing or you get fired, you do the specific thing and get fired. you would not smile. i tell him he doesnt understand. he says i do not understand. i tell him he smiled because icarus was finally free after so long. he tells me icarus did not smile because he failed. thoughts?
i think no one is surprised to know i agree with you. comparing the myth of icarus to something like getting a job is already missing the point, because a job and one's life are two very different things. a job is not permanent. it is not who you will be for your entire life. it is not all you will know for your entire life. if you get fired from your job, you can always apply for a new one. they're replaceable, in the end.
i'm having some troubles putting it into words, but comparing it to a job ignores, as you said, the freedom of it. the emotions of finally having control of your own life. all icarus had ever known were the walls of his prison. how can he be blamed for wanting to experience that freedom? to truly feel the beauty of the world? of course he was smiling. for once in his life, he had made a decision of his own. he had lived how he wanted to. he finally had a choice.
