The world is changing now. Soon, it will leave me and all the knowledge I accumulated during my life behind. It's not too late for me to get into the permanent record, though, with this information about a long-lost art of car ownership. I speak, of course, of the car stereo installation.
Nowadays, car stereos are largely an extension of your phone. And why shouldn't they be? Your phone can access any music you desire, conjure up pornographic visions from the ether itself, and tell you how to get out of the corn maze that you and your borderline-sentient 1979 Firebird Formula have gotten stuck in during your latest secret-agent shenanigans. Car manufacturers make terrible stock stereos, and so it just makes sense for them to step aside and turn them into "big screen that phone makes go."
It is for this same reason that, before the ubiquitous smartphone era, we wanted to swap the stereos in our shit-box Hondas. In the late 90s and early 00s, new standards were coming out practically every weekend. You didn't want to be the dope with an AM/FM/Tape combo when it was possible to be the brave technologist who accidentally bought a stereo on sale that only understood uncompressed Mini-Discs and the Diamond Rio 600. You could go to the store and buy a "head unit" (car stereo dweeb speak for "car stereo") and jam it into the dashboard, yourself. Sure, there were semi-professional installers out there, usually working at that very same store. Those installers cost money, though, and surely you can connect between 15 and 200 wires together in a way that doesn't burn your car down, right?
Wiring a stereo wasn't really that hard. It was just one of those death-by-a-thousand-papercuts deals. You pull out the old stereo, a task which ranges between "annoying" and "holy shit I don't think my car will ever go together again." Then, you unplug it from the wiring harness. They call it a wiring harness, because you get whipped by it and still somehow enjoy the experience.
It's at this point that the driveway-installing amateurs are separated from the driveway-installing pros. A smart person gets a little plug-in wiring adapter that translates from the car's wiring to the stereo's wiring. Someone who forgot to buy the little wiring adapter from the stereo store, and doesn't want to go back there because their car is torn into a million pieces, decides to hack and slash, twisting and soldering the car into the stereo permanently. This works too, but it will be a problem in about two weeks, when the MP3-CD player you just spent your paycheque on becomes obsolete, and is replaced by a Tokyo-24-HotSauce-WMV-DVD player.
Now comes the harrowing. You have just made your car's stereo harness much, much longer, and also likely much fatter. You gotta cram that shit back in the hole it came out of, ideally without getting in the way of anything else inside the dashboard. This is the point at which you must decide whether you will spend eight more hours routing wires, potentially re-doing the wiring work you just completed, or explain to your significant other that the heater controls only go two-thirds of the way to "cool" now. You will pass through this crucible and emerge a stronger, angrier person. You will have opinions on electrical tape for the first time in your life. Your neighbours will call the cops to have you killed after you swear loudly enough to wake their babies. The cops will laugh as you nearly pass out from heat exhaustion underneath your dashboard.
And in the end, you will be able to play an MP3 file from a burned CD. Congratulations. It was all worth it, until you go over a slight bump and the damn thing skips a bunch. I hear the new ones on the shelves now have a bigger anti-skip buffer. And those stock speakers, well, they sound like shit, now that you have this fancy new stereo blaring 64kbps Napster rips through it. Maybe pick up a new amplifier while you're at it, and an upgraded alternator to handle all that new current demand, and...

well it's been a DAY long post is long/personal
got up at 6 am to feed pets b/c plumbers were getting here at 8 am to deal with the leak from a burst pipe in the wall around my office. They get here, turns out there's SEVERAL more burst/leaking pipes which will require a lot more work. guybrush (our dog) is getting really stressed and it turns out the plumbers have to go into the downstairs bathroom to assess more of the damage so i have to put the harness/leashes on the cats JUST in case (they were previously just locked in the bedroom where they like to hide under the bed anyway but i have fears of a skittish cat running into an open wall or soemthing). So i put guybrush in josh's office and innocently close the door to go deal with the cats.
the door apparently has a deadlock that requires a key which is INSIDE the office. guybrush is now locked inside the office and has started to keen (he's mostly blind and partially deaf and is only really calm if i'm with him, so this was TOO much for him). josh tries to drill out the lock to no avail. The internet suggests we use a sawzall on the stalk of the knob, fortunately the plumbers have one, guybrush is free.
meanwhile the contractors have arrived to fix a different problem in the kitchen (there was a hole in the join from our roof to the wall which caused water damage and rot). The whole beam has to be replaced. While starting to prep for this, they discover that the kitchen wiring is not at all up to code and must be redone. They also discover more damage (possibly from termites) that must be repaired. we curse the previous owners who apparently took all kinds of shortcuts (tbh we already didn't like them due to a bunch of drama when we first moved into this house, like they were def hot mess expresses)
the plumbers have to reroute the pipes over the ceiling of my office into the garage. they have to work slowly b/c they have to drill through each beam (which are oriented width wise instead of lengthwise). the water damage between the wall of my office and the bathroom is extensive, the wall is basically damp paper. the contractors are getting so much work. they are a little annoyed about how the plumbers *just* fixed the pipes but we are not changing it. the wall can have a tiny bump in it, it's fine.
they also discovered that a vent that was part of the bathroom originally wasn't filled in properly and we're probably getting water damage from that too. they'll be here every day for the next 2 weeks at least.
tl;dr: so this means i don't have access to either of my usual art spaces and have rerouted both my computer and the necessary parts of my traditional art stuff to the living room. We also have limited access to the kitchen (you know for food and stuff) for the rest of the week. We are both so tired, adulting is terrible sometimes lol

7700 EMERGENCY SQUAWK PANIC - ADR (ABNORMAL DREAM RECORDER) WITH PANIC - NIGHTMARE ADR X2 - FULL PANIC - DISCHARGED FIRE BOTTLE 1 - 10MG VALIUM ADR RECORDS ALL CAPTURED BETWEEN 12AM 2AM - HIGH RESOLUTION ADR DATA In a downtown Chicago hospital, I was in the OR for what appeared to be a pelvic procedure, maybe the spermatic cord denervation? Maybe Northwestern Medicine? The only recognizable calm portion of the dream was grabbing the anesthesia mask and inhaling gases, then awakening from whatever procedure was done I was in extensive pain, suspiciously no IV line was in place. I was immediately rushed from the OR to what looked very much like a jail complex or a psychiatric facility. Upon further review it appeared to match the building description of Jackson Park Psychiatric Hospital. Such high resolution from an ADR is suspicious. Such thermal crashing is highly suspicious. Upon awakening from the surgery I asked for pain medicine before being rushed away from the post op area in a hurried and reckless fashion. They said “Morphine? Fentanyl?” I said “Yes morphine, no fentanyl” They said “You thought we were going to give you pain medicine? Hahahahaa” I then remember there being incisions on the side of my penis bilaterally, on the sides of my scrotum bilaterally and at my suprapublic. These incisions are not compatible with any known procedure modality.
Upon being taken into the seemingly normal psychiatric hospital all on the inside was abnormal, it appeared to be a building being misused as a home for the special needs / infirm special needs. I was in severe pain. They gave me a dirty bedroom with massive amounts of electronics and wiring laying around including what appeared to be a high voltage Ham Radio setup cobbled together from smuggled in electronics components. During what appeared to be meal time me and a group of people in wheelchairs including a young woman with a harness were dining when a fight broke out, one person was killed by another person, another person was killed by gunfire from the armed guards. All persons were evacuated to the hallway. I remember seeing a machine in the hallway that rang like a gong and was extremely loud. The machine was sat next to my room, my room was the first room on the unit and a high acuity monitoring room, though no real monitoring occurred.
Upon being released to do as we wish I was no longer walking around the facility. In fact everything turned into a top down flying view, out of body experience?? Dead?? I saw things that nobody else should ever see, there was a body on a stretcher that had clearly undergone extensive rigor mortis. I then approached the end of the hallway and saw a container that sad DANGEROUS MEDICAL EQUIPMNT DO NOT OPEN, able to see through the container I could see a body, there were electrodes monitoring the brainwaves of the seemingly barely alive person being kept within it, a prisoner?? I then looked over toward a blood splattered door that said “OPERATING ROOM” on the front, immediately at that time the dream ended with a ADR - NIGHTMARE CODE 1:50AM 2:00AM - Very rapidly fell back to sleep, immediately dumped back into the same dream, this time as a staff member. People were running around and a violent individual cornered me into an armored staff booth,, guard post? within the facility. I kept holding the door shut while the person beat on the glass and banged on the door.
Police arrived and shot the individual dead. The dream was very short and ended with an ADR - NIGHTMARE CODE

F-22 Raptor returns to the skies, 5 years after serious damage caused by unsuccessful takeoff

A U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor returned to flight on May 4, five years after suffering major damage due to an unsuccessful takeoff on April 13, 2018.
With only 186 Raptors in the entire U.S. Air Force inventory, placing only one of the formidable fighters back into operations represents a significant achievement for the 3ª Wing at Joint Elmendorf-Richardson Base, Alaska, where the F-22 is assigned.

“There are few F-22s in the inventory,” said Chief Master Sgt. Adam Willeford, the senior leader of the 3º Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, in a press release. "Each aircraft in the fleet is highly valuable for the success of the mission, so returning it to operational status is a great victory for the team."
An Accident Investigation Board blamed the 2018 accident on incorrect takeoff and landing data, an inadequate flight summary and the pilot prematurely retracting the landing gear. The pilot was taking off from Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, for a TOPGUN graduation exercise when the accident occurred. The pilot ran with the aircraft - lifting his nose - at 120 knots and, when the aircraft indicated that its wheels were coming off the ground, the pilot retracted the landing gear. Immediately after the collection of the landing gear, the aircraft "sit down" on the runway with the doors completely closed.

The Raptor slid about 2,000 meters on the track before stopping, at which time the unharmed pilot left the cabin. The investigation board later found that the pilot should have reached a higher speed before the rotation, but that the aviators of the F-22 community tended to trust too much that the high thrust of the jet could “overcome deviations from [takeoff and landing data]. This perception led to a decrease in the emphasis on takeoff data".
The board did not specify the exact cost of the accident, but the recovery process was extensive, with the fighter having to be partially rebuilt to return to service. The maintainers started dismantling the jet and dispatching it back to Alaska aboard a C-5 Galaxy transport jet - only the disassembly took a month.

"We took away everything that was damaged and everything that did not fit dimensionally," said Sergeant Ethan Rentz, team leader of the 3ª Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU), in a 2021 press release. “We removed the wings and vertical stabilizers and the entire belly of the F-22 because these panels were damaged and burned. We couldn't let these panels shaking or breaking during transportation."

When the aircraft returned to Alaska, the U.S. Air Force first had to determine whether it was worth restoring it. The simulations suggested yes, said Tech. Sergeant Kevin Fitch, another team leader of the 3ª AMU. In January 2020, the Raptor was mounted on stands in a hangar and stripped of its wire harnesses, supports and bulkheads.
“It went to the bones of the fuselage at that point,” Fitch said in a statement.
Contractors, engineers and structural specialists took 16 months to replace the entire bottom of the aircraft, the fuselage stations and more than 40 wiring harnesses. It was not until June 2021 that the active aviators finally got involved in the reconstruction. Fitch maintained inventory lists and spreadsheets to track the large number of spare parts needed for the damaged jet.

“Sgt. Fitch took it out of the blue,” Rentz said in the statement. "He is operating at the master or senior sergeant level because he is not only dealing with team leader tasks, he is coordinating several different workshops and agencies. He is essentially commanding a squadron of one-man aircraft."

The collection of parts was the biggest challenge for the repair of the Raptor, since the jet and its spare parts are no longer manufactured. The recovery process could have taken even longer if another F-22 had not fallen at Eglin Air Base in Florida in 2022, when its landing gear broke. The maintainers of the 90ª Aircraft Maintenance Unit based in JBER traveled to Eglin to cannibalize parts of the downed Raptor, including the leading edge, two flaps and a seat.
Although cannibalization prolongs the recovery time of Eglin's F-22, it helped JBER's Raptor return to service earlier - ensuring that at least one jet is flying.

On May 4, Lieutenant Colonel Philip Johnson, a functional verification flight pilot assigned to the 514º Flight Test Squadron at Hill Air Base, Utah, performed an F-22 test flight.

her armour (and by extension her arms and legs) use a lot of electromagnets , most importantly the balls of her feet that are basically her ankles.
Her arms are pretty much just normal cybernastic scifi hands or whatever, like Venom Snake type shit.
her undersuit has an inner lining of wires and shit to monitor her vitals and her muscles to move the suit easier, but it also has an interior layer thats like a harness to support the weight of the arms and whatnot.
i feel like despite being an important character trait, its easy to forget that shes an amputee four times over.
originally i wanted to give her the sprinters hooks that you sometimes see but those are really only for running, plus Canon takes place in a big desert so i feel like having a more conventionally designed foot makes more sense.

Recently found your Fnaf au works (lovin' em btw), and they got me thinking, given that Bonnie is very much the dad of Sun and Moon (a loving and protective one at that), If he came back post virus in your role reverse au, how would he react to the fact that Monty ripped off Moon's hook? And by extension how would he react to Moon's lack of mental wellbeing?
OOF- yeah it would be b a d.
Now, Bonnie doesn't have a bad temper per say. He's a nice person, comes off as a chill dude most of the time (and not, like, Monty chill. Monty chill to me is always that kind of rockstar persona ya know? That laid back in a way of "I don't give a crap what you think" rockstar persona that he puts on for kids. While Bonnies is more laid back in the "one of those guys you'd meet at a local business and become quick friends with and go to for advice" way if that makes sense), but he's one of those people that are relaxed and laid back but still don't put up with anyones shit. I fully believe in the idea that Bonnie is at least somewhat tempermental, as he is one of the most aggressive animatronics in the game, he just isn't AS impulsive. So I think he'd end up visiting Monty Golf and essentially telling Monty that he has a minute to explain what happened before he gets his head cracked open like an egg. Monty quickly obliged because he knows from experience that Bonnie is dead serious and tried to explain everything he remembered. As mad as Bonnie was at him for hurting his son, when he asked around it was confirmed that Monty was telling the truth and in that case he really can't be mad at him for what he did. It was out of his control after all, though he is more careful now whenever Moon does use the wire. Since it had to be reinstalled, all of the nerve endings it is attached to had to be replaced and that means they are all a lot more sensitive as he isn't used to the new ones and how they work with the harness so he's more likely to tug a nerve and startle himself, causing the wire to retract again and for him to fall.
Honestly he'd be very worried seeing Moons mental state. I mean, the last time he was around Moon was still overly hyper and extroverted although slightly in control compared to when he had just started. So he could act soothing and nice but still was full of mischief and generally joyful. It would feel so weird, seeing him so introverted and quiet, and seeing him and Sun have such a strained relationship. Questioning either about it results in a lot more questions then answers though. Sun would try to answer his questions, but end up crying because he feels so bad about what he did and is ashamed of himself. Asking Moon would get him even LESS answers because Moon would insist that nothing was wrong. He doesn't want to bother Bonnie with his issues when Bonnie has only just recently been re-added to the group. He has his own problems to deal with, and Moon firmly believes that Bonnie shouldn't have to deal with his "temper tantrums". He already did so much more then he had to for him by teaching him the ropes when he was younger, and he doesn't want to burden him anymore.
So essentially he'd try to hide it as long as he could and act like everything is fine, until eventually Bonnie witnesses one of his breakdowns and gets confirmation that he is in fact not fine. Being as he has a generally small role in the pizza plex, he isn't all that busy, so he'd definitely spend a decent amount of time taking care of his children. Though he'd avoid getting in between the issues they have with each other. As much as he wants to help them reconcil, it isn't his relationship to fix. Pushing them to do something won't help either of them, so instead he'd probably end up trying to help both of them deal with what happened while he was gone. It would definitely make things a bit smoother though, with Bonnie able to disauge some of the insane amounts of guilt Sun feels before it becomes overwhelming.
I imagine when they do start to gradually reconcile on their own it would go about the same as normally, because again Bonnie would try not to interfere in this very delicate bond. Though I can see him walking into the daycare to see Sun cleaning up around his very much passed out sibling before picking him up and putting him back to bed, or comforting him after a nightmare and cuddling with him, and just smiling and deciding to leave to not disturb their little bubble of peace.
